I was extremely dissatisfied with my experience with 'National Van Lines' and their partners 'Affordable Quality Moving & Storage.' Although my contents made it from California to Texas, there were a number of issues that were unacceptable and so I would never use these two companies ever again, and they are: 1.) Delivery Date: We chose this company over (4) competitors because they assured us that they could hit our preferred delivery date within a couple of days. It turned out that they were 5-days later than their target, costing us extra money to live those extra days without our home contents and basic necessities. 2.) Moving Cost: Their cost turned out to be 15% more than the not-to-exceed estimates from their competitors (e.g., United, Mayflower, Allied, etc.). And this overage was known until a surprising invoice arrived 6-weeks after the move! 3.) Pricing Model: It was not known until after the move but cost per pound calculated by the estimate was $0.53/lb., but the cost that is added if you have a weight 'overage' during the move is a shocking $0.88/lb.-- a huge difference. NEVER accept their non-binding contract, but instead go with one of their competitors that offers a 'not to exceed' agreement. 4.) Weight Estimates and Weight Scales: Although I had (4) other movers in which I received nearly identical weight estimates across the board, this company stated that my move came in 14% over the estimate--even though I had sold some items after these estimates were performed before the move (so, the actuals should have come in even lighter). And the method in which they try to prove weight actuals are through 'trucking weight scales' which are impossible to validate, and so you just have to take their word that they are legitimate and that only your contents were on the truck when it was weighed. 5.) Customer Service: The management folks that I dealt with (Kelly Kirkland, Steve Millsap) to get consideration of a reduction regarding this $1,400 bill were not helpful and their corporate line is to say that they are at the mercy of interstate tariff charges, etc. and cannot offer any reduction. Bottom Line: Use any one of the major movers and stay far away from these companies; Affordable Quality Moving & Storage and their partner movers National Van Lines.
Everything seemed to be easy to start. As we got closer to the move date things just kept getting more complicated. Our moving date was changed twice. Two days before the date of moving we were told our stuff could be loaded but not transported. The drivers truck was having an issue. My husband was told the rate could be lowered due to the issues. When we asked about it we were told there was a misunderstanding and the rate would be the same. When our things were delivered the boxes were crushed and the entertainment center had boxes stuffed inside the cabinet which caused it to break when being unloaded. It was a freaking mess. The guys who loaded and unloaded were nice guys but no real finesse. I would NOT use this company again.
Thank you Matt. Y'all are awesome from Ohio to Texas. your guys are the best. Taylor, James,Ray, and the sweetest blond soccer playing, MAN BUN GUY. ( I'm sorry I forgot your name) I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU!
I have worked for the same employer for the last 17 years that has used companies like this to move me both CONUS and OCONUS. Understanding this, I can confidently say this is the worst moving company I have ever had to deal with. Why? There is a total lack of communication. There is also a total lack of consistency between the staff and “dispatch”. You cannot get a strait answer from anyone. Nobody is on the same sheet of music. If you are expecting great customer service and reliable scheduling this this is not the company for you. I will be filing a complaint with my employer at my earliest convenience and recommend my employer does not use this company anymore. The only reason I am moving forward with this company is because I am not paying for it and I am too close to leaving the country and having renters on my current house.
Good move
IVL handled my move from NY to CA. All in all, I had a good experience minus a couple of small hiccups. They were very good at getting things organized and kept their work which is important to me. I had no damages or overcharges.
I worked with Dennis, who did a fantastic job coordinating and executing my cross-country move. He was clear in his communication on how the operation would work, honest about costs, flexible with my availability, and generally helpful and communicative throughout the whole move. The agents on each end of the move were also exceptional. I highly recommend Dennis and the National Van Lines team, and would move with them again.
Great moving experience. Cross-country moving is so stressful and the folks at National Van Lines provided us with honest, realistic expectations and an easy, online payment process. I would recommend this company to any friend or family member with a cross-country move.
Used them for a cross country move (CA to NC). The representative who gave me a quote was extremely knowledgeable, honest and the most accurate compared to the other companies that quoted. Also, the crew who packed our homes was great. Unfortunately getting our things and dealing with claims was another story. We were given quite a wide window for delivery which made finding accomodations at our destination difficult. Then once we were given an actual delivery date, no one showed up. My family checked out of the hotel and went to the new home to wait for delivery and no one came. When I called, the driver said he had called and talked to my wife and said he had "mechanical issues", which was untrue, no one was informed. They finally arrived 4 days after the initial date given and in all of the chaos, multiple items were never taken off the truck. We should have done more diligence checking the items ourselves, but we had thought the driver would have been doing this. After all that and as we started to notice missing items and that our wine fridge was broke, dealing with "customer service" to get a resolution was unpleasant. The response was almost non existent and when we finally got someone, they put a "trace" on the missing items and we never heard from them again. I reached out months later inquiring and was told a trace was still on them or I could take .60 a lb...I decided to continue with the trace but many a months later gave up and asked for the compensation, only to find out, it was too late. My recommendation is to use someone else or if you MUST use NVL, get insurance AND check inventory as it comes off the truck yourself. In regards to the comment that the driver indicated the headboard and footboard were delivered, that's just a flat out lie and I even spoke directly to the driver about the issue. Also, why would a trace be put on the item if that was the case. Unfortunately drivers are also a representative of the company and its obvious taking accountability is also not a characteristic of the company. I also understand and take responsibility for the timing of the follow up claim, but when I emailed asking specifically nhow successful traces were and if I should just file the claim, it would have been nice (and just good business) to communicate the timeline. But again, it's been established, neither communication or good business ethics aren't strong suits. Regarding the wine fridge...you should check your records or update your CRM software because I sent an inquiry on October 4, 2018. Maybe I missed it, but I have no records of a reply. I didn't follow up after because previous efforts were futile and, as you stated, I purchased no extra coverage and that's on me. Wishing you many years of providing "good enough" service.
National Van Lines were courteous, considerate and exceptionally careful with our belongings. I've read a lot of mixed reviews about broken furniture and missing items. When every single one of out items was accounted for and nothing was broken. They even put special stickers on all of our items to identify our load. The stickers did not damage any of our items and they removed easily. My husband protected our furniture very well. Only we know what items of ours could handle the move and what needed a little extra support. For example our Ikea furniture that is fashionable but not solid wood was secured with cardboard and shrink wrap. We cut open large cardboard boxes and taped the cardboard on both sides of dressers, mirrors, and end tables then we shrink wrapped it tight. We did this for many items that needed extra support and everything arrived perfectly. I am so thankful for their help.
perfect move -- highly recommended! great team!
Just had a wow experience with Monty Gustus and his crew at my facility. They were professional, courteous and were very careful with my tenants belongings. They left the site just as clean as when they arrived. Great service, thank you!!!
The best of the best moving company.. drivers here are like bald men movers, "losing our hair stressing to get your stuff there".. haha.. (that's mine btw) I would use it but I have hair..
Very happy that I choose them. It was a great experience from the day I contacted them to the day I received my goods. Driver was friendly and very helpful.
Great people!
There are lots of horror stories when it comes to dealing with moving companies. Thankfully, mine wasn't one of them. From the beginning phases of setting up our move from New York to Georgia with Aaron, all via email and one phone call, to the actual move, went without a hitch. Aaron was extremely receptive, polite and professional. Every email I sent him was answered expeditiously. The driver of the moving truck (Pedro) was also great to deal with. He was prompt, very respectful, professional and personable. He made sure all of our belongings, as well as our home was treated with 'White Glove Service'. Every item was tagged and accounted for. Before arriving at my home to pick up our belongings, Pedro called me the day before and told me he would be at my house about 0815 hrs. He arrived at 0810 hrs. I was extremely pleased that he was on time. I lucked out because Pedro told me unless he had another pick-up, my belongings would be the first delivery. And that's exactly what happened. I moved on the 22nd of May and received my belongings bright and early on the 24th. Again, Pedro called me the day before and the time he told me he would arrive is the time he arrived. All of our belongings were delivered and placed where we wanted them. Aside from a nightstand and a dresser that had a few scratches on them, nothing was damaged. This has a lot to do with Pedro's 14+ years of experience. While in New York, I watched him ensure that everything was packed and wrapped properly. I even saw him instruct his workers to unwrap some articles of furniture because they weren't done as good as they could have been. This was greatly appreciated! As for the nightstand and dresser that arrived with scratches on them, Pedro took care of that with no problem. He even took care of some scratches that were already on the furniture before the move. I wish I was paying attention to what he was doing, because the dresser looked brand new! I don't plan on ever moving again, but if I had to, I would definitely use National Van Lines. And I highly recommend them to anyone. Moving is a stressful process, but I must say, surprisingly, mine was stress free. Oh and how could I forget to mention, National also offered the best price for our move! Hands down, a 5 star rating!
If I could use one word to describe National Van Lines it would be INTEGRITY! They care about you and your stuff. If I could give them all a big hug I would.
From start to finish (sales to setup to pick up and drop off) a truly painless and in fact excellent experience. Everyone I interacted with was very professional and extremely helpful. My items arrived across country precisely on time and without damage. I recommend and will use national van lines for all long distance moves.
They are people with no integrity! They along with some of the third party movers they work with need to be investigated, because they seem to have a system of deceit from the upfront representative who will lie right to your face to get a deposit and then suddenly become unavailable. The third party inflates the price based on a different criteria than what the salesman tells you. The arbitrator is of no value because they hold you to the strict letter of the contract. You can't prove anything about what was said to you by the salesman because calls are not recorded. I don't recommend them to anyone! That kind of business can not last.
These guys are toooo good to be true. Damon, Sebastian and the other person who joined them for moving our house in Boston were so helpful and professional. They moved the entire house in 3 hours and did the same when unpacking too. Not a single thing was damaged or broken. Damon and team kept their date and there were no delays. I will definitely use National Van Lines for another move. Great experience!
I hired National Van Lines to move my mom from Albuquerque to San Diego. It was, or should have been, an easy move - a 1 bd apartment with no appliances. We chose National because my mom really liked the sales person they sent. They were also the most affordable estimate. Lesson learned. It was a disaster. They were about a week late and lost, damaged or destroyed numerous items. When one person delivered a dresser that had been completely destroyed, she told my mom it's because it was "cheap". I paid for it, and it definitely wasn't cheap. However, even if it were, that's a poor defense for incompetence. If they can't even handle such a small move, I really don't want to imagine how they would screw up a larger move. Caveat emptor with this company.
We used National Van Lines to have our 10x20 storage unit contents to our new home in June 2021. We were torn between saving $$ by moving ourselves, or using professional movers. I’ve used many, many movers over the years, and had had a really bad experience with movers back in 2018, so was quite apprehensive. But, from my first contact with Kenny, only 2 days before our move, my mind was eased that our move would be handled well. This opinion never changed! Kenny, and each person in his crew, was very professional, efficient and friendly. I HIGHLY recommend National Van Lines, and if you’re lucky enough to have Kenny arrange your move, you’ll be in good hands!
During Hurricane Harvey my furniture was safe & secure at Johnnie T. Melia's Moving & Storage. It was delivered to my new home within days of the hurricane. I could not have asked for more.
Good job
Incredibly disappointing and poor performance on a small move from Florida to the northeast. From the time the local affiliate picked up my belongings it was two months before they arrived at destination. There were too many changing stories and alibis to count. There were several periods where I had no idea where my stuff was or when it would arrive at destination. After all of this nonsense they even refused to provide token or cursory compensation for their problems. Had they offered me a token discount I would've been content and appreciative. But these are greedy people who lack both professionalism and common sense. As such they've already lost my next move which is significantly larger and beginning now. Classic example of how to lose a customer. Would never use again and would not recommend.
The estimator Tim in the Jacksonville area underestimated our house by close to 3000 pounds. The company is now holding our belongings in Florida, and will not give us an answer on when they will ship. They do not return calls nor answer questions. Unfortunately I have already paid and I belive they do not care since they now have their money. You can schedule a move any day, but they canny ship my belongings within the contact time. Very unhappy.
Pat Carter the sales manager came personally to our home and gave us a quote for our move. We counted on that price since he walked around and looked for himself before telling us how much it would be. On Oct 28, 2016 National Van Lines moved us from Texas to Missouri. The truck came a day later than promised. When the driver got here he told us the amount we had to pay before they would unload our things. This amount was more than $1000 more than we had been quoted and if we didn't pay it they would take our stuff and store it. We paid the higher amount to get our things our of hostage and called Pat who told my husband that he would make sure that we got a rebate or something to get us back some of our money. After a month I called them and they said that they knew nothing about it and they would have him call us. No call back. A week later I called again and requested that Pat call us. Once again...no call back. Another week went by and by now I have noticed that the packer who was packing one of my rooms stole the contents out of 2 brand new Powerbeats2wirless presents that I had saved up for and bought my grandchildren for Christmas. Also a pair of beats ear buds that were mine. He put the empty boxes in with the other things because he couldn't get out with those without being noticed. I called the company yet again but this time I needed to advise them that one of their packers is a thief. I told them which one too. I ask AGAIN for Pat to call about the overcharge and we still have never heard from him. The company has refused to do anything about my stolen items. I would NEVER use or recommend this company to anyone ever. Don't be another victim of their inability to be a trustworthy company.
I expected more from a well known van line. My items took 23 days to be delivered, and the excuse was a shortage of drivers. I'm pretty sure that a shortage of drivers would have been known 23 days earlier when they picked up my things. Rather than be honest they quoted 5-20 days. After 10 days I started asking where my things were and they had not even left my previous city---nor would they leave until the 20th day. Had they just told me then that my goods would take longer I would have planned very differently. We had no bed, sheets, towels, cooking items...NOTHING. When my items finally arrived the driver was very haphazard unloading my items. At one point he attempted to unload someone elses couch and cushions. I told him they were not mine. After unloading he tried to get an immediate signature. I walked my home and realized that my own couch cushions and a chair had not been delivered. He went back into his truck and located a missing box---but never located the chair. Also, my items were filthy---likely from sitting in a warehouse for 20 days. I communicated my missing chair to National Van Lines--and crickets. Again, communication is the key. Do better National Van Lines.
They quote you less get your stuff on the truck and they charge you 2000+ higher than quoted... And you can't do anything about since they are already have your stuff... So fustrated about this should of stuck with my gut and went with Arpon!!!
Seems like a great place to work.
Hands down absolute worst moving experience ever. They handled our move from Arizona to Maryland. They delivered our stuff 2 weeks late and the only reason I knew about the delay was because I called them. There was zero communication from them before my calling and harping on them! Then 2 out of the 4 large items that arrived were damaged, one of which was my piano and I am a professional pianist. It is obvious that the entire finish of the piano was sprayed with something and someone tried to wipe it off. Unfortunately they did a horrible job in covering up what they did and were unable to get to the parts of the instrument that were locked so it actually dripped into the instrument. They are taking zero responsibility, tried to blame it on me possibly cleaning it before they picked it up and even threw their own driver under the bus. Now I am having to hire a refinisher to take a look at it and assess the damage inside and out. The entire instrument may need to be refinished because whatever it is, it is irremovable! Even the driver that dropped off the stuff admitted that when he went to pick up my stuff from the warehouse my piano was completely uncovered and that the dresser was already damaged prior to even being driven cross country. I don't know how a company that touted they are so reputable can make such a mess out of one simple move. Shame on you National Van Lines!
American Way and National Van Lines made the horrible process of moving into a painless experience. Everyone was very efficient, careful and considerate. From the beginning, Melinda Newport was wonderful. Explained everything thoroughly. Got back to me with questions later on. Made some great suggestions about packing items. Brian O'Malley the driver was timely, efficient and fun to work with (great sense of humor). His crews at both ends took care with our items and were easy to work with. We would fully recommend both these companies for your next move. Now if we could just get rid of all these boxes and bubblewrap!!
Lawyer and Trevor are two of the hardest working and honest guys. The took their job very seriously and made sure everything was accounted for and moved without any damage to the house or property.
01/11/2021: I have scheduled a interstate move from Illinois to California with National Van Lines. They have given me a date range for pickup as 01/05/2021 to 01/12/2021. Today is 01/11 and I have not received a single call/email from them till today confirming the actual moving date. I’m thinking they are planning for a surprise move. Lol . Waiting for them ,, Not sure whether they are planning to pick up today or tomorrow or even after. I’ll update the remaining experience after moving.. 01/12/2021: I got a call from National Van Lines on 01/11 and confirm the move date 01/12 afternoon. Tractor trailer driver called me in the morning and confirmed. And called me multiple times during the day and update their time. They have arrived by 1:30PM. 3 guys were started loading the tractor trailer and they have finished the loading within two and half hours. They have done the loading professionally. The guys were awesome. Great job. I have to give 5 star rating for the loading. Now waiting for the delivery day. I will keep you posted.
This Truck driver tried to run us off the road on 301 doing 80MPH coming thought Waldo Florida.
April 2021. Many thanks to Two Brothers Moving, Inc. (Nate Volk and Kyle Volk) and National Van Lines and its super driver Damon Clark. Having been in my Chicago house for 25 years, hiring a company for a cross country move was a huge decision, wrought with worries. I sensed that I wanted someone local, and I contacted National Van Lines through Two Brothers, in suburban Chicago. Having Nate Volk come to my house in person was very helpful; he walked through with me, taking notes, answering questions, making me feel comfortable and less fearful. I'd read too many negative reviews and was imagining all that could go wrong. A day or so before the move, I was told the name of my driver, Damon Clark. Then Kyle Volk came to my house and put all the individual framed artwork I had already wrapped in several big boxes; put clothes on hangers in another giant box; boxed outsize lampshades and the various odd shaped things I couldn't pack, like my vacuum cleaner. This version of final packing had been explained to me, but I couldn't envision how it would work, so I was impressed. Then Damon Clark called me himself the day before the move, and told me he'd be at my house between 8 and 9am, and that the move would probably take until 1:00pm. My house was mid-block in a conventional Chicago neighborhood with narrow streets and parked cars. My neighbors worked to park their cars in front of three houses with mine in the middle, and moved the cars when that gigantic National Van Lines truck arrived shortly after 8:00am. It filled a third of the block! I was expecting to move a year ago, but being waylaid by the pandemic, I had time to pack nearly everything, and so Damon and his crew of three young men moved rapidly in and out of my house, in good spirits, and were finished by 11:30am. I should add that I did not take much furniture but dozens of boxes. When everything was neatly packed floor to ceiling in the van, in a surprisingly small area up front near the cab, Damon posed for a photograph in front of that solid stack. I learned that Damon, his crew, and several other Chicago households of goods were all going to Tucson in that giant van. My belongings wouldn't be redistributed in another truck, or go with another driver. I was so glad and relieved. That Chicago move-out was on a Saturday. I couldn't leave town right away, and departed the following Tuesday on the four-day drive to Tucson. Damon texted me that week saying he could deliver my things on Friday, and I had to tell him I wouldn't be arriving until late on Friday. How about Saturday? he asked, accommodating my needs. And that was my last concern -- would I have to wait for several days for the van to deliver my things in Tucson. And so on Saturday afternoon, Damon and his crew unloaded everything, again with good spirits, and now I am unpacking, and remarking on a job well done. Kudos to the Volk brothers and National Van Lines, and I'm especially appreciative of the professionalism, cheerful attitude, and hard work of Damon Clark and his crew. Judith Randall.
(Translated) Excellent service (Original) Excelente servicio
Very very poor service. I have taken their service for my move from Denver to IL. So far experience has been pathetic when it came to timely delivery of my goods. Earlier it was committed for July 31st. It's Aug 7th but still i am struggling without any good at home. Outer deadline is Aug 9th and really hope that they deliver by then. It's very poor customer service.
Great experience with National Van Lines from the start to the finish. When I first called randomly for a quote I got Aaron Bacon and he was very helpful, honest, and not pushy. With those qualities it made a very easy decision to work with him and the National team. Aaron responded very quickly to emails and was patient with all my questions as this was my first major move. Once the move was set up the great service continued with the mover/hauler Brain and his crew. They did not loose or damage any of my belongings. Then at the end Aaron and management (Lisa) followed up with me to ensure the move was successful, and it was! I could not ask for a better company to have used, and if I move across the country again I will definitely be using National Van Lines and recommend everyone else to do so. I also called about 5 other company's including Allied and other major company's and they were not nearly as responsive and extremely overpriced. Another great thing about National Van Lines is they only charge for the weight you are hauling...if they over or under on the quote you they will adjust per your actual weight.
They treat drivers right
Super expensive and bad business practices. Don't use these yahoos
Moved from Jacksonville FL to Leavenworth WA. Our salesman and estimator in Jacksonville were great but sadly that was soon to end. The packers were a day late then the driver was in town but thee didn't have loaders scheduled until the next day. The driver was great and really helpful and the loaders while not employees were good. We were given a not to exceed estimate and were told the final bill would be based on weight. After truck was loaded the driver weighed the load. A few days later after several calls were told the "final " amount based on weight per agreement and paid BEFORE truck was in driveway. The Wenatchee WA agent held us up a day because he didn't have unloaders. The next day he sent day labor guys out but they didn't know anything about moving furniture and damaged several antiques and other pieces of furniture. To add insult to injury a month later we receive ANOTHER bill from National for additional funds with NO documentation other than things that weren't done by the packers. After all we had ALREADY had the load weighed and paid per weight. I have filed a complaint with the BBB but don't think that will go anywhere. Their collections person Stephen A Millsap is certainly misrepresenting the case. After all he wasn't there. BTW this seems to be common with National Van Lines
Where to start? 1. Quoted 11 grand to haul my Mom's furniture from California to Arkansas. Then required to pay over 6 grand cash to the moving truck driver. 2. Took 3 weeks to get the furniture. 3. Not given 24 hours notice of arrival. 4. Informed on arrival day that it was my responsibility to provide 2 uhaul vans and a crew to unload the trailer. The transport company threatened to take my 94 year old mother's furniture to New York, fines would be levied, the furniture would be auctioned and litigation initiated. What kind of company is this??? Please. Hire a reputable company. This was one of the most stressful transactions I have ever encountered.
It's near where I used to work!
Never again. Ever. Still finding lies and stuff that was broke. My mattress wasn't wrapped as was told and none of my furniture either. Stay away.
Great experience, easiest move, stress free, great price. All my items packed and unpacked fo me. Thank you to the rep and the team!
This company is honest, up front, answered all of my questions, and has integrity.
Early November 2020 I relocated from OH to CT (1 bedroom apartment). Everyone at National Van Lines was great. They answered all of my questions. Communication with the driver/movers was excellent. None of my stuff was lost/damaged (I'm rating 4 stars because they said the furniture would be wrapped on the truck and it wasnt). Great experience overall.
Service from start of pickup until delivery was great. It was comforting to know that the there was always someone to assist. National Van Lines worked around the delivery date and all objects were delivered intact. Very happy with this company, they are courteous and accommodating.
Avoid at all costs! After our move we filed a claim stating that we were missing items and they refuse to compensate us for it. We were advised that we had nine months to file a claim (we filed way within the timeframe) but they said that because you have to acknowledge upon delivery that all items were delivered, they will not compensate us. Biggest scam ever! Do not use if you want your items to arrive at your new location!!
I had a fantastic move with National Van Lines in September from Chicago to New York. My agent, Sam Meredith, was responsive and helpful throughout the process. Danny, the mover and driver, was very professional. The cost came in well below the quote and my belongings were handled with great care. If you're looking for an easy move and peace of mind these are your guys!
National van lines were hired by my company for my out of state move. They are on the expensive side for sure (thank god my company payed for it), but were very professional, timely, and responsive to my many questions and inquiries. John the driver went out of his way to help us and even fixed a broken furniture we had from before the move. We had minor broken china (2 or 3) in the boxes that we packed, which were due to our bad packing, but the rest arrived in perfect shape (we had over 30 large boxes). If you're reading my review, my only suggestion for you is to consider the cost (they provide a fairly good accurate quote with you just using their online app). All aspect of the move were near perfect, but its expensive, so is it worth the bang for your buck?
Devin Rogan (Mooney Movers - Albuquerque, NM) was responsible for the delivery of my house-hold goods on 03 Aug 17. Devin was unfortunately the lone mover for about 6000 lbs of goods due to a miscommunication from the source moving company. Despite the circumstances, and about 10 hours worth of work, Devin successfully unloaded all of the items and assembled a few beds carefully. Devin was professional, courteous, efficient, and friendly. We provided Devin with lunch and dinner along with many cold Poweraids & water for his hard work. Devin went way above and beyond the normal call of duty and maintained his professionalism and good work ethic despite his circumstances. For this, he earns a Google 5 Star Review and public recognition from myself. To his company management/leadership: I highly recommend Devin for a promotion to a position of leadership as well as a raise in his pay/salary. Devin earned this review! Great work Devin Rogan!
One of the best companies I've ever seen! Awesome drivers and dedicated to the end!
I could not have chosen a better moving company. My experience was pleasant from the first day I called until the end of my move. All the staff was professional and helpful. My mover's were there on time, and took great care of my belinging's, pricing was reasonable as well. Thank you all so much for making this a stress free experience for me! Highly recommended!!!
I wish I could give them negative stars. We moved from CA to FL. It was a nightmare. I booked with a small local company who outsourced our move to them and we had no clue who was in charge of what part. 1. We were already in FL and called them after a week and learnt that our stuff did not even leave CA. I called them every day and they kept making excuses. Yes, the emailed me often as status update (like every 2 days) which said “we are still locating trucks for your upcoming move”. Seriously. 2. Every time I called, I got a new person and no progress on my move. They told me that I had spoken to EVERYONE in their office. That is how much they gave me run for my money. 3. There was totally broken communication between their head office and actual movers who actually deliverd our stuff to our apt. 4. On the day of delivery, movers arrived 3 hours late. 5. My BIGGEST complaint is about attitude of the movers who delivered our stuff to our apartment. They were late by FEW hours. As soon as they arrived, they wanted to rush as they were already late for next delivery. They yelled at me. It is a 1 bedroom apartment and they were so lazy that they threw everything right in front of door. My poor husband had to MOVE EVERYTHING. And at top of it, they kept complaining of everything (too many boxes, this bag is way too heavy, you delaying us), singing songs and the older gentleman who seems to be the one running the show just kept blabbering in strange English that neither one of us could understand. 6. They were missing our mattress (the biggest item). 7. They could not put together 1 basic futon frame. My husband had to do it with them. Our futon frame was the only piece that required assembly and part of their job, but they complained non-stop about it. 8. After whole day of trying to talk with their head office who had no clue of anything, truck driver finally located our mattress around 5:30pm and promised to bring it within 1 hour. My husband called him directly every half an hour and he kept saying he is on his way. He arrived at 9pm. 9. Driver came alone (his helper was gone) and told my husband that “YOU CAN JUST CARRY IT BY YOURSELF” in pouring rain. This is not my husband’s job, who still helped the guy in carrying the mattress in our apt. There was no dolly, no wheels (as driver was too lazy) and they had to carry it from parking into our apt. The protective cover of mattress was missing. 10. They did not wear masks or gloves. 11. All of our stuff smelled of rodent pee, including our mattress. 2 additional items were broken. 12. We had bought extra insurance and filed the claim.
Excellent work, prompt, and so professional. I'm never moving again, but they will get lots of recommendations to my friends and colleagues.
Excellent. Everything was explained to us prior to the move. The crew that packed was professional, courteous and knew exactly what they were doing. We enjoyed meeting the driver, Joe. He worked with both the packing and unpacking crews. He got our furniture delivered to our North Carolina home pronto. I believe there was a misunderstanding in that the crew that unloaded the truck did not know they would be unpacking the boxes. Although not part of this crew's usual work, they unpacked the boxes anyway. We had a great experience with National. Everything got here in great shape. Thank you National and the great people that make you look so good.
DON'T USE THEM. I was not impressed with my moving experience with All Around Moving and National Van Lines. We moved from Michigan to Tennessee, and it was the worst experience that I ever had with moving, having moved 6 times. When I met with the President of the Company, he expressed a number of key factors like covering our key furniture piece, especially the mattresses through out the house. He indicated that everything that I was to move would fit onto one truck. None of this happened. On the first day of the move (already one day later than they promised), they didn't cover and pack our mattresses. They didn't cover some of the furniture to protect it. They indicated that the truck was over filled, not having space for some of our items. They also didn't complete the packing of the truck until almost midnight (after not showing up in the morning until 10:30am). Somehow they were able to get everything on-board. Note: We had 4 less rooms of furniture than was originally planned in the original quote. Upon arrival in Tennessee, they removed the mattresses, leaving dirty finger prints. They carried the mattresses on their sweaty heads, leaving stains on the mattresses. They put boxes in rooms other than were marked. They staged all the contents of the trailer outside of the garage. When the driver told them that he was leaving in two hours, they stopped moving items in the house and just packed the garage and left. After they left, we found multiple pieces of furniture in the garage rather than in the house. I had to hire additional movers to finish the job. They also scratched the hardwood floors in the new home. Their comment was "you should expect your possessions to be broken and require cleaning after a move". When trying to settle with National Van Lines, they refused to acknowledge what had been done. They wouldn't acknowledge the level of insurance we had. They have many level of protection to cover their incompetence. DON"T EVER USE ALL AROUND MOVING OR NATIONAL VAN LINES.
Save yourself the trouble and frustration. Single worst professional experience I have ever had. Do not expect a call back from this company. They will set up your move and collect your first charge then sell your move off to another company. This is when you find out that the money you paid national van lines means nothing because once the company that they sold your move to comes calling , they will start your charges all over. I have been charged 5 different times for the same move. Was originally quoted $4,500.00 only to find out when they showed up that the total cost of the move would be $9,453.89. That is when national van lines will conveniently not answer their phones or call you back! Absolutely a scheme! Um no , I didn't confuse the company with some other company. My job number was 302448. How is it possible that you lose track of a job you have done!?!?! I moved from Wyoming to Texas. You're company is out of New York. I spoke with Diane and her email is dianne@firstnationalvl.com. How dare you insult my intelligence. You will be hearing from my attorney very soon. What a joke of a company.
The movers were on time and very professional. The crew was very careful with all our things. Highly recommend.
The collection (Kearney of Venice, FL) and delivery guys (Al Coleman) were helpful and friendly. It was the bit in-between which was the problem: My furniture was being collected from Florida on September 1st, and the delivery date I received was from Sept 4 to Sept 16 in Missouri. I had not heard by 15th, so called National Van Lines and Kearney. National Van lines told me it would not be delivered until September 23rd or 24th, although they could not guarantee those dates when I called. If I had not called, I don't know when they were going to tell me. It would have been nice if either or both Kearney and National Van Lines would have at least called me to tell me about this delay. The customer service complaint people at National Van Lines were very good and efficient, and I put in a claim for compensation and received it very quickly. To take 22 days to deliver furniture is to me completely unacceptable and I now know why I see so many self-drive Penske and U-Haul trucks on the highways! My advice to both Kearney and National Van Lines; if you are experiencing a delay, at least have to courtesy to call the customer and let them know. I would most certainly not use Kearney and National Van Lines again. It is easy to see why I see so many self-drive Penske and U-Haul vans on the highway these days….. Ian Jennings
For my cross country move, I needed to work with several movers, with National Van Lines, Inc. being the company that coordinated the move, and arranged for the other movers at each location. They were professional, client focused, providing me information every step of the way. I would strongly suggest getting a quote from them when considering your move.
This was the worst experience ever! The move out of the house was great, but the move into storage was horrendous. It looks like they literally threw our furniture into the storage unit and stacked heavy boxes on top of boxes marked fragile. I can't fully assess the damage as my house isn't ready yet and they moved everything into storage. I can the kitchen chairs are severely damaged. I would NOT recommend them and would NEVER use them again.
This company is horrible. Moving Services was the local moving company in Tucson and grossly under estimated the weight. The move was more expensive as a result. My belongings had to be in storage for 3 months and boxes were crushed when they came out of storage. Even the driver remarked on the condition of my things. The driver literally broke a leg off of a chair during unloading. Many of my things were broken and one table was not even off loaded. I have been trying to get the driver to ship it to me for 2 months. The insurance coverage is terrible and very small compensation for the damage that was done. I do have to say that National Van Lines did send a claim check promptly, but why wouldn't they - it was a paltry amount compared to the damage. Please get more than one estimate, read the reviews and don't ignore the bad ones like I did.
Excellent service! This is our second time using National Van Lines to move coast to coast!!!. I could not speak highly about our experience: communication always very fluid, professional crew, fast and efficient to pack and unpack our stuff (4 hours), on time, and everything in perfect condition. Especial shout out to our last driver, Jonathan Elsis, who went above and beyond and surely made this move less stressful!.
My experience has been horrible with this company. I end up paying three different companies for my move. VAN Lines didn't even move my items. Charged me extra for everything. Lies and said they are a family friendly company. Once they get their money for the move they did not complete I couldn't get in contact with them. The last company had my items in route and did not notify me and cost me extra money for storage. Called me last minute to tell me they need to know where to drop my items off. I paid for the move and my items to be taken down and transferred and set back up. Let's see what happens. I move in Aug 20
They were awesome! They took great care of our belongings, were very professional and very pleasant to work with. I would highly recommend this team!!
Knew about my move 3 months ahead, demanded to be paid before delivery and then never called. Driver called day before and only brought a very small part of our household goods eventhough all my HHG had been stored together for months. Still dont have a day for the rest ofour stuff and have taken our HHG hostage. Do not PAY upfront. Contract clearly states pay before driver unloads, not before. They will take your money and then totally botch your move. They never call back.
ALWAYS ASK FOR WEIGHT TICKETS BEFORE AND AFTER UNLOAD ON DELIVERY! DO NOT TRUST THEM!! THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME EXTRA MONEY EVEN AFTER DELIVERING A WEEK LATE! When everything was all loaded up I signed the paperwork and asked for the pre-loaded weight ticket. I was not shown the weight ticket for before pick-up or given a copy of the weight ticket, the driver said it was just a empty weight or lite weight(Red Flag). We parted ways at that point hoping for a delivery on Monday 10/15 or no later than Tuesday 10/16 from what the driver said. I received a call on Friday 10/12 stating the driver was broke down and they are waiting for a part. National Van Lines would know more on the delay Monday 10/15 and that the driver would not make the scheduled delivery. It’s funny I would get a call about the driver being broke down on Friday 10/12 when the driver told me his truck was involved in an accident(no fault of the driver) on Wednesday 10/10. I had to call every day to try and get an idea on what was going to happen. The truck was in El Paso, Texas at the dealership’s shop for 8-9 days! National Van Lines took no immediate action to find out if they should rent a cab and get my belongings back on the road in a reasonable timeframe. They knew it was cheaper for them to delay the shipment rather than try to make my delivery happen. While this whole breakdown/delay was happening I got a call from Sam’s Express and they said my move was going to cost more that expected! What?! They said the weight ticket came in considerably higher than the first move.. you mean the move from 6 months ago that I know should be a minimum 500lbs lighter than the last trip?! The trip from Florida to Arizona was $5,100 and Arizona to Florida(lighter) was was expected to be $6,300. Hmmm. I complained to National Van Lines and asked to see the truck weighed before delivery and right after delivery to prove the weight difference was correct. On the 10/23(one week after the “no later than date”) we found out the weight Sam’s Moving express told me was 700+ lbs higher than the actual weight. I’m looking for an explanation for this! I need a reason other than the fact that someone was trying to screw me out of money! I called back to National Van Lines and they said “well the weight isn’t as much of a concern to them because the trip is priced more off the distance, time of year blah, blah, blah”. Turns out the weight difference knocked off $700 plus off my quoted price! How many people truly know what their items weigh? How many other times could this have happened? I would have never known on my first trip. This leads me to believe the drivers load the moving truck, top off the fuel tanks and charge the customer extra for weight plus fuel. (I drove truck for 8 years, diesel is just over 7lbs per gallon. That makes it easy to add 700lbs to my load if an average semi holds 150-300 gallon tanks). National Van Lines, let me know what your answer to that is.. All said and done they provided minimal compensated for each day the truck wasdelayed and corrected cost for the weight difference. I’m still not happy! Lying, cheating, dishonesty and what I would call criminal actions do not deserve payment for this outcome! Remember they will hold your stuff hostage unless you pay them in full(even if the price is inflated) 24 hours before your delivery! You are on their terms, they do not care when you call and you are in the worst situation in your entire life. Sleeping on the floor in a empty house with a 6 month old crying, feeling trapped because you cannot get your belongings in a timely manner, feeling cheated and lied to while a company tries to take advantage of you! That is how I feel about a National Van Lines!
I had items moved from MA to IN; however I booked with my agent here is Crawfordsville Indiana (Superior Moving). My communication with the booking agent was not clear. I learned that the pickup date was never set or finalized on the day of my move, so I was waiting around for multiple days for the movers to pick things up at the origin in MA. This was my first big cross country move so I sent pictures of almost everything to the booking agent. They did not account for glass shelves of a hutch, which needed special packing (an additional charge). I told them that a piano was to be moved, and they did not include this in the initial estimate either, leading to another additional charge on the backend. The final cost of the move was about 20 percent more than the initial quote because of these errors. Again, the competency of the booking agent was extremely poor. If I had known that my primary contact should have been the National Van Lines staff (Sue) in Chicago (because they are the people who actually got things done) then I would’ve booked directly through them. The movers on both ends were friendly and efficient, however some screws for my grandmother's antique 10 person dining room table were lost in transit and we had to go to Home Depot to purchase. Overall, I am not impressed with National Van Lines. I would not go with National or Superior moving in Crawfordsville, IN again in the future. I will NOT be recommending either after this negative experience. To make matters even worse, when I tried to leave part of this review attached to my official National Van Lines BIll of Lading number, it would not accept the text. Shouldn't surprise me that even their review system is incompetent.
Driver was horrible bad attitude. Can alone for a house move. When delivered same attitude. No help again. Throw a fit when we asked to have him inspect with us. He refused grab the papers and told us we refused to sign. Which was not true. Would have kick he out when first came to pick up. But, we need to move
If I could give zero stars I would. National Van Lines picked up my stuff on October 17th and it’s now November 7th and I still don’t have my stuff. They could care less and just tell me to call weekly. I have already contacted a lawyer and have filed a complaint with the BBB. Who knows if I will ever get my stuff and now want to be 100 percent reimbursed and compensated for all my belongings which will cost close to 40,000.00. They can talk to my lawyer and please don’t ever use them!!
Malcom our driver, came in with his guys today and gently took all of our HHGs out. It was probably the best experience we’ve had with movers. They were kind, funny and very social! Also, SUPER caring and gentle with all of our belongings. I would highly recommend this company. VERY accommodating with our date to receive our items cross country! Will definitely recommend to friends in need of movers!
I was looking for a Mover as I had to change cities. MN to TX was a huge move considering the distance and weather. I did some research and landed with NVL. The staff is highly professional and helped me wirh each step. All the information I needed was shared with me over email and then explained in detail over the phone. The move was seamlessly executed and I thank Sam Meredith, Mary Pat and Sandy Romcoe for their great customer service. I highly recommend people to go to NVL for their movement related needs.
Where do I begin...I was leaving my home of 45 years and very emotional about this new journey. I selected National to move me from New Jersey to Texas to be near my daughter and grandchildren. On moving day, I had the most moving experience due to my movers, Derek and Nancy Washington. I could not have asked for more professional movers. But more than that, they were just wonderful to me and my family. Everything arrived in Texas with the utmost care. Not one thing was missing or broken. The most amazing thing was that we became friends. We shared stories about family and promised to keep in touch. I would recommend them without hesitation. Thank you Derek and Nancy and keep safe and happy. Marie, Scott, Alicia, Isaac and Ella.
The movers arrived on time. They were very efficient. All the packing and loading was done in just 3 hours. The movers were very careful with my breakables. They moved the furniture out in a very systematic manner. I was quite impressed seeing how sincere and organized they were. When they delivered everything, I took an inventory and all my belongings were safely delivered. The company was cheap too!
If perfection is unattainable, the experience of working with this company was as close to perfection as it could be! Our representative, Sam Meredith, was very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and responsive whenever we needed him. The movers themselves were as close to perfect as perfect can be. William, our main mover was professional, polite, and took any extra step we requested. He even offered the extra step. During a normally stressful time, Sam and William did everything they could to alleviate any stress, within their power. Side note, we have a very difficult couch. It's big, wide, bulky, and we went from apartment to apartment with thin hallways. Previous movers/delivery guys complained and threatened to not be able to bring it in. William, in a refreshing change of pace from previous movers, said, "We'll get it, don't worry," and sure enough did it with no complaints. The next time we need a moving company, we're going to specifically request Sam as a rep, and William as a mover. 5 out of 5!
We needed to move our things from a large storage unit in Denver to our new place in Nashville. I contacted National Van Lines after doing some research and reading positive reviews. Our move coordinator Michael Hartung was extremely professional and thorough with helping us out in every step of the move. The quote we received for the move was extremely competitive and beat out other professional moving services that we received quotes from. Our driver Danny arrived on time and his team at both pickup and destination were careful with our things and efficient with time. We received our shipment in about a week which was nice and I would say that after going through several moves in the past National exceeded our expectations of service and professionalism. I would highly recommend National and we will be using them for any of our future moves!
Harold and his team in Naperville Illinois did a wonderful job moving my parents across country. We called a few companies and were impressed with this National team. It's a very nice family business and were better priced than others. Highly recommend them!
Who wants a customer that asks about the weight ticket? Do you weigh the whole truck with diesel? Okay, he answers they weigh the cab only. I don’t know the weight of my load until the driver delivers with the weight ticket. I asked about pickup and delivery dates. Aaron told me I had to pay $775 to pick a specific pickup date, and pay even more for a specific delivery date. I asked what happens if you don’t deliver on the date I paid extra for, and Aaron says lets focus on the positive. This is my hard earned money! If I pay an extra $1,500 for a specific pickup and delivery date the company should refund me that amount if they are late. He states they refund an amount like the cost of hotel, but he could not remember how much. If Aaron can remember $775 extra needs to be paid to lock in a specific pick up date then he should remember if they refund customers. I asked if he could send me the policy in writing. I asked for a quote in writing. I know doing things over email is binding and they want to avoid it. Good luck if you use this mover!
I just got off the phone with this company and they quoted me $1,700 for a 1 bedroom! 40 minute drive...what a jerk he was over the phone. Bashing all the other moving companies then quoting me $1,700. I'm working with someone else now for $616. Very unprofessional. I would not reccomend this company to anyone.
I don't usually write reviews but I really felt I needed to share my outstanding experience with National Van Lines. It started with my sales rep Jay Vandroff (Yarnall Moving and Storage) that went out of his way to make sure we had and an accurate quote and everything needed to make the move during the covid epidemic, although their pricing was not the cheapest I felt the most comfortable with them throughout the quoting process, and constant communication. When our driver Brian O'Malley showed up he even made it a much better experience, they took all measures to protect floors and house house hold goods, wrapping and packing everything to the "T". They were very professional and fun to be around, I couldn't expect anymore. Throughout Brian's trip to the destination he was in constant communication letting us know exactly his location and ETA. Upon delivery again Brian and his crew went above and beyond unloading and setting house hold items. Hats off to all of you, and thanks for giving us an outstanding moving experience. I'm so glad I went with National Van Lines and really couldn't of ever expected it to go any smoother. Jay, thanks for all you help. Brian, safe travels!! Thanks to all involved!!
We used National Van Lines for our move from Dallas, TX to Wilmington, MA. It was not a good experience. The estimator that was sent was polite, professional and courteous. Not one time during the estimate did he mention that parking in the loading zone would be an issue. The day of the move comes, and our driver shows up and does not like the fact that the loading zone is on the side rather than the front of the building. He gets very rude, raising his voice to the point he yells at me that it is my responsibility to ensure that the parking spaces in front of the building are clear. He leaves and comes back the next day after we rented cars (at our expense), parked them in the spaces in front of the building and kept the meters fed. We are given a timeframe for when the movers will arrive in Massachusetts. However, the day before the last day of that timeframe, we find out they are going to be another week because they added stops in the middle of the country. While the company was gracious enough to cover our hotel room during that time, it was a major inconvenience. When our stuff does show up, the driver calls me before 7:00AM (his ETA wasn't until 8:00AM) while I am at the hotel, and complains that he may not be able to get the truck into the apartment complex. This, despite the fact that management assured us that getting a 75-ft tractor trailer in and out has never been a problem before. He does manage to get the truck to our apartment, and they are efficient with unloading things. HOWEVER, one of our dressers had the handle broken off and they delivered one of our TVs to a different address. This is the most unprofessional moving company I have ever dealt with in multiple long-distance moves.
My belongings were delivered to someone else’s house . I found a few of my missing items at a resale mall in my area. Truck driver delivered to same city the same day to address that wasn’t mine. Nvl is billing me more money because of overages but will not conduct a thorough investigation and denied my claim . I have pictures of those items and proof my items were delivered but without any cooperation from Nvl. I will never use them again nor will I ever recommend them for anyone. It has been months of begging without any help. I don’t think they are reputable.
HORRIBLE. They called me the DAY BEFORE the move to tell me my things wouldn't be delivered on the day we agreed on. Then proceeded to tell me there was "no way around it". Horrible customer service, DO NOT USE NATIONAL VAN LINES.
This company is a disaster. I consider myself a pretty go with the flow kind of person but this company has been truly unpleasant and unprofessional from the beginning. We planned our move from New York to Chicago with the intent of giving ourselves some ease of mind of not having to deal with the stress of packing and unloading. We initially had a pick up window from June 21-25th which was fine because we needed to move out at the latest on June 25th. We were told we’d get 24 hours notice of their arrival and were stunned to learn that on June 24th that they could only arrange a June 26th pickup. We made it clear that this could not work and after a lot of pushback we finally got our June 25th date the night before. Our delivery window was from June 26th to July 8th. Not ideal but whatever, we can survive those 10-14 days without our stuff. July 7th comes around and we have to call to figure out that our stuff was delayed and wouldn’t be arriving until the 14th. Obviously not what we planned for but we were told by the rep that we’d receive some compensation for the delay. She calls us back and says they can either pay us $50 a day or reimburse 50% of our “appropriate approved purchases”. This is a complete slap in the face when we spent thousands to have our stuff moved. We later find out that our stuff now would be delayed until the 18th. We express that the compensation needs to be adequate given this delay and she returns to say that they’re willing to do $100 a day. Again not ideal. We don’t here from them for another couple days and find out on July 15th that they can’t be deliver until the 23rd. At this point we don’t even understand how this can be happening and she tried to tell us that June is always a tough month. I’m sorry but that really isn’t our issue when we have a contract that outlines the details and dates of our move. We express to her that at this point the compensation for this delay has to be substantial given the amount of inconvenience and unwarranted stress it’s brought to our lives. On July 16th, we again, are the ones calling for updates and are told the best they can do is $100 a day and they can’t guarantee that our stuff sitting in a random NY warehouse can be delivered on time. At this point, the delay time is close to matching the original delivery window. What bothers me the most is the lack of empathy and sincerity from the representatives regarding the company’s inability to deliver on their promise. The move at this point should be 100% free and I definitely plan on filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Awful communication and they really do not know what they are doing.
I have a great experience with National Van Lines! My booking agent, Michael, is very responsive and willing to answer so many of my questions. He cleared all my concerns and helped me make a decision to move with National Van Lines! The movers are on time for both loading and unloading. Although I have two mirrors broken during moving, still overall it's a great moving experience! I will recommend National Van Lines to my friends who are moving in the future!
Great customer service
This was a great experience. The driver and guys were great!
Bait and Switch with serious customer service issues. We first received a quote over the phone for $2k to load/move (not pack) our 600sqft apartment to our new home 250 miles away. An in-home estimate was conducted where we were assured that certain fees wouldn't be applicable for such a small move and, for a fee, could guarantee our pickup/drop off dates. The 3rd person we spoke to for the 'Official' estimate gave us a total of $3800, including every possible fee, including the one for 'guaranteed' dates that only 'guaranteed' that they would pickup/drop off anywhere in a 3 week window. Glenda frequently contradicted herself and the in-home estimate guy and refused to provide any material we could read over that defined and explained their terms and fees.
The guys loading and unloading were very nice and respectful. We were given a 10 window for delivery. It came on time, but on the 9th day. We even got a refund because our weight estimate was lower than given in the first quote. Can't complain about that. I'm not sure if other companies do this but we were impressed.
Moved from Ohio to Washington (state) and I couldn't be happier with my experience with National Van Lines. All of my items made it cross country with no damage. The driver and my contact back in Ohio made sure I was up to date every step of the way. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for an excellent experience with moving.
Excellent service, caring people, I was so glad we chose to work with them.
Great experience with NVL. Damon Clark is the best driver ever. THANK YOU Guys.
