Set up a tour for qoute, they don't show up. We do a virtual tour. They got me binding $2300. They show up to do the move, and they say they didn't have the write qoute, they want $3700. I asked them to leave, as very dishonest. DO NOT WORK WITH ALLAN BEECHER. HE IS A SALES GUY, and WILL LIE WITH NO ISSUES

Movers were extremely unprofessional. Did not show up within window of dates or times. Movers complained about working late even though they showed up hours and days late. One of the mover reeked of alcohol. Movers were not going to come back to get rest of stuff until I called main office and complained. Terrible service. Art work was not wrapped, just thrown on truck. Just plain terrible experience for the amount spent on a truck. Movers did not even fill truck up all the way. Weight was 10,000 less than it could have been. Will never use this company nor recommend to anyone.

I originally booked American Van Lines for an state to state move. I then cancelled my move 3 weeks after booking because my wife and I decided to handle our move on our own. My dealings with AVL was good and had no problem with the refund of my deposit.

AMV was able to move us coast-to-coast in a challenging, post-pandemic time when other companies couldn't even provide quotes. Everything - furniture (including a piano), boxes of all weights and sizes and other items arrived safely and promptly (actually, early). Veteran driver/foreman David Thornton was communicative and trustworthy. Unbelievably, we were charged $1000 LESS than what we were expecting! We would have been in a bad situation if not for AVL.

I will use American Van Lines for the rest of my life. Just as we planned to move, Hurricane Irma interfered. THis wonderful company arranfed my schedule for one week later and facilitated this move with an efficient diligent staff that took care of every item that i treasured sentimentally. Everything in this room, a room i use for meditation and relaxation, is important to me and they wrapped all with care. Moreover, the office assistants talked to me and made sure everything would have perfect consequences. Without hesitation or deliberation, this company is number 1 !!!

An outstanding experience from start to the finish line, it pays to do your research and the old saying held true, you get what you pay for! Im not a frequent mover once in thirty years from Florida to Northern Indiana and a whole semi to do it! The on site movers were very polte and respectful of our property on both ends. I did have some damages and I exspected some, the worse was scratches on my Goldwing motorcycle. I never botherd with the damage claims??? I would highly recommend American Van Lines, I just can not say how much they just put me at ease with our whole home in there hands.kudos to American Van Lines and their team!

An absolute NIGHTMARE move! Trust me we've a lot and this is by far the worst experience we have EVER had. Movers confirmed they were coming on Friday three different times. I get a call Wednesday night from the driver advising he would be showing up the next morning. Again they confirmed Friday with us THREE different times. When I called customer service and explained this and advised them to pull their calls and forwarded the WRITTEN email, which confirmed the Friday pick up date. It did not matter. They said they were coming regardless if we were home or not and if nobody answered we would be forfeiting our deposit, which is half of your move cost btw. So had to rearrange our schedule after being told a confirmed date. Our things magically weighed more than the contracted weight so they charged us an additional $1,100. Mind you, I already overestimated everything as to not be blindsided. Movers came with a too small of a truck so they left and returned at 7:30pm to load the rest of the items. They were were rude and took furniture apart without paying attention to what they were doing. Customer service is trash sorry but it is the truth. They will lie, yell and one rep even cursed at me. I mean by far the most astonishing experience. Delivery was late and remember the furniture I indicated they frivolously took apart? Yeah, they put it back together wrong and when I advised them it was done incorrectly they tried to argue with me. One of those pieces was our bed frame. I checked every bit of the frame after they were finished and noticed screws were missing and when I asked them about it they advised they used all the screws. After a heated discussion one of the movers came back into the room and pulls the missing screws from his pocket..wth! Honestly, I could go on and on about this entire experience and how truly horrible it was, but I am so done with it. Just pick any other moving company besides this one. I mean they are moving your HHG you want someone reputable, trustworthy, and friendly and this company ain't the one.

Rude, arrogant, unhelpful. Quote didn't even come close to matching my inventory and CSR said it was my fault. Hello? I've never used a moving company before that's why you even have a job, dum dum. They have a 100% cancellation policy but will do everything in their power not to let you cancel. Think twice before signing.

We trusted American Van Lines to move us cross country. We paid for packing, transportation, and additional insurance. When our items were delivered more than three weeks after our requested delivery date, many items were damaged beyond repair. Some of the items had not even been packed, and those that were were packed badly. We even paid for some of our fragile items to be crated, and they were handled with no more care. Now that I need to file claims on the insurance, no one at American Van Lines wants to help. My move coordinator (with a supervisor copied) doesn't respond to my emails. I called the emergency after-hours line and the voicemail was full. I've even tried to reach out to the leadership team via LinkedIn with no response. UPDATE: I left my number (like a pager service) on the emergency after-hours line and got a call back three days later. They promised to send me claims forms for the premium insurance, but alas did not. I have a feeling that I won't get reasonable communication from American Van Lines until I get an attorney involved. If you are moving, DO NOT choose this company.

***This is MY experience*** American Van Lines was used as the contractor for my military relocation. My family moved from Tennessee to South Carolina, and somewhere in between our items were broken down and put into crates that were packed horribly. When our shipment was delivered to our new residence, lots of our items were broken. The motor fell out of our washer, they dryer was dented on all sides and there were no screws to any of our beds and lots of items were not packed properly hence our 60 inch flat screen with the busted screen and my kids trampoline was one big ball of netting. I've been calling for over a week and left messages for the claims department with no response. I finally talked to someone yesterday and got bounced around like a hot potato until someone finally told me that the lady who handled the military moves was not in the office yet. I left another message and I have yet to get a response. This was the worst move ever, everything that could have gone wrong did! And it's even worse now that I can't get in touch with anyone to get any off the issues resolved. I saw another review where the company said it was a fake review posted by a competitor, If you want proof, I have tons of photo's in my phone.

They rescheduled pick-up 3 times (moving it by a full day) with 1 hours notice. They later rescheduled drop-off 4 times (moving it by a full day) with NO notice - I had to keep calling to find out where they were. They treated me like I should make myself available to their ever changing schedule with no regard for the fact that people have things going on during the day. This company is beyond unprofessional and the worst delivery service I have ever used. Do not make this mistake. **Update: When they finally showed up it was 6 hours late and they stayed until 11 PM, horrible experience

I would highly recommend to look elsewhere. Their website appears to be BBB accredited, but after searching the actual BBB website, they are not. They are unorganized. The sales person will tell you everything positive, but there was nothing positive about our experience. Once you have paid your deposit, all customer service is out the window. I paid for a full custom pack, and I ended up having to pack at least 1/2 of my things myself, but yet, still paid for a full custom pack. They wanted to charge me for a storage unit when there was absolutely no way that they would need the storage unit, but to be on the safe side they said they still needed to charge that. Then when they were a day late, they agreed to take the storage payment off ($5600) but I had to pay $1000 to guarantee they wouldn’t deliver before a certain date, even though it was physically impossible for that to happen since they were still packing, loading the truck, and needing to drive long distance. I ended up not needing to pay the $1000 after fighting multiple people on that charge. The company gives you a 3 day window - which is fine, if they show up within the 3 day window. We were told they were coming between 9-11 on Sunday, then called and said 11-1 on Sunday. Sunday was the last day in their 3 day window. No one showed up on Sunday. The driver (while nice) was late on Monday. On Tuesday, the driver was an hour late. We told the company that we had to be out by Tuesday evening, and they swore we would be. I ended up having to pack 1/2 my house (that I paid for them to do), move boxes outside myself to be loaded on the truck. After a walk thru of the house, they forgot the 1/2 bath, downstairs closet, back patio, master bath. So I had to do that myself, again, while paying them to do it. They broke my desk chair, trash can, and the entertainment center. The policy to file a claim is you have to have 3 repair quotes in order to file a claim. No one is going to come out to give you a repair quote on a broken desk chair, broken trash can, and broken entertainment center. I’m missing a Wii that was supposedly packed and moved - but no where to be found in boxes. Find a different company - and thank me later.

I just moved form NJ to Florida and was super stressed throughout the entire process however the actual move was fantastic!!!! I am beyond pleased with the service I received from American Van Lines. This company has been my worst nightmare. Do not I repeat do not use this company. The movers either show up 4 hours late or just don’t show up at all. The company didn’t call us or email us the fact that they weren’t coming. The sales rep gives you all the reinsurance but when there are problems the rep won’t even call you back. They make promises and have no intention on keeping them. Do not use this company!!

They arrived after the 3 day window that I was initially given. On arrival they charged me an additional $1200 because my furniture weighed too much. Bringing the price to $4600 for a one bedroom apartment. Then they told us they would deliver the furniture from 9 to 12pm on Friday but then changed the delivery time to 3pmto 5pm. I explained to them that my husband had to work at that time and they refused to change the day to Saturday. They stated they would charge us additional money if they delivered it on Saturday but they didn't take off any money for being a day late for pick up. On my initial quote I was told the price was binding and would not change. But this was untrue as well.

Potential problems with scheduling, packing a grand piano, and arriving at a destination that I would not be at were handled as if I were a member of the family. Once the estimator left I had a hard time getting ahold of him for questions. He initially told me a couple days were blocked out. Later he told me they may move me on one of the blocked out days. No one else had contacted me. He told me a moving coordinator was supposed to be in contact with me. But that took a while to happen, meantime I had unanswered questions. So far my move date has not been firmed up, could be tomorrow could be the following day.

They were 3 days late picking up my mom's furniture at one point saying they "accidentally" went to minnesota instead of the middle of Iowa then they took 2 weeks longer to deliver it than they said they would. They broke and scratched heirloom pieces that my grandpa passed down to my mom after he died and didnt say anything to my mom about it, and didn't even offer an apology, instead trying to screw things back together in spots that arent supposed to have screws. Incredibly disappointing to say the least. I'd give no stars if i could. Edit: they contacted my mom offering further compensation after this review was posted, which means this must not happen often as Ive offered no obvious identification. Also apparently they could not figure out my relation to her despite me calling her "my mom" several times in this review so do with that what you will. Update 1/10/17: They have once again contacted my mom offering further compensation for the damage they caused and for the incredible inconvenience they caused. The explanation for the problems was that the coordinator got my mom's move confused with another one and has been disciplined but has been at the company for years and usually doesn't make such mistakes. Moral of this now ridiculously long review: They might mess up but its unlikely and if they do mess up they'll work with you to make you as happy as possible.

I will tell you that I absolutely hate moving. As anyone knows it totally disrupts your life, plus you pile on the stress from the family, new home, utilities, and moving your stuff. Thankfully, I used American Van Lines to do my move and the moving stress was lifted from my shoulders. From the beginning I talked with friendly and personal sales person, Jennifer, who took my info and guided me through the whole process as well as notifying me when the movers would be at my house to start. I even had the assistance of the owner, Anthony, who took time out to make sure my move was handled smoothly. I mean, what moving companies out there has the personal touch of the owner to guarantee your move is easy and a total success? The crew arrived on-time on Saturday (08/27/16). Now I had two apartments being picked up and then delivered to a house. From the moment these guys arrived they got straight to work and in about two and half hours had both apartments were packed into the truck like a crazy jigsaw puzzle. Suffice it to say that everything got to my new house without any hitches and they were finished very quickly. The foreman Aldo, told me they were doing their best so they could save me time, which of course saved me money. These guys didn’t stop, like a machine, in this hot and humid South Florida weather… In short, I recommend American Van Lines to do your move! I can tell you that if I had rented my own truck and then moved my own stuff would have been total disaster! With American Van Lines taking the moving stress off me, it gave me the time to get my other affairs in order so when the movers drove away; I could then focus on getting my house back in order to resume my normal life. Don’t believe the biased high ratings for American Van Lines (AVL) seen online. AVL buys people’s silence if not 100% satisfied. To accept their “settlement offer”, you sign a contract saying you won’t say anything negative about the company. AVL caused over $8000 worth of damage to our belongings (not counting damage done to either house) for which they offered a settlement of $1483. The movers’ attitude was great. Whenever I tried to help box items or carry items to the truck, AVL repeatedly informed me that I paid them to do the work and I shouldn’t be doing anything. But one worker clogged our toilet. Rather than saying anything about it, he closed the door. I found the mess 2 DAYS later. I had to purchase another plunger to unclog the toilet. Also, items were not packed carefully (e.g., 1 sheet of paper between 2 glass pie pans). I was expecting an 18-wheeler to carry our belongings like we had before. AVL showed up with a small truck, realized not everything was going to fit, and rented a trailer to pull behind the truck. AVL strapped my grill, wagon, & plow to the outside of the trailer (they wouldn’t fit inside). I rented a trailer to carry what AVL couldn’t fit. Our belongings were emptied into AVL’s storage unit, then reloaded when we were ready for delivery. The day we closed on the house, AVL called to make arrangements; dispatch gave me a delivery window of 2:00-4:00pm. I told them that we wouldn’t be closing until after 1:00. AVL arrived at the house at 11:00am. The driver chewed me out because I wasn’t there to take delivery and if I wasn’t there by 2:00, he was going to charge me a waiting fee. I arrived at 1:45. AVL wasn’t there, and didn’t return until after 4:00. I told my wife what happened. She posted a bad review on Google. Within 2 hours, Theresa (caseworker) called me and said if we removed the post, AVL would give me $200. The post was removed, but I never saw the $200. She told us we had 90 days to file damage and loss claims. Just a few weeks ago (way too late to add to the claim), I discovered that my 2 sets of handcuffs & keys were stolen. I repeatedly told them to take extra care of some items due to their sentimental or intrinsic value. Several were damaged. Not expecting that much damage, I foolishly signed Option 2 of the contract, which waves full replacement cost. It allows for replacement cost of $0.60/pound of that item. AVL’s settlement offer for some items was $508. Because the damage to the house was not noted in the log when the movers were here, AVL only allowed $725 as a “courtesy allowance” because I had pictures. There was a long list of other items that AVL did not offer fair settlement because their damage or loss was not listed on the bill of laden. As the homeowner, apparently it’s my responsibility to assess loss or damage to EVERYTHING as it’s unloaded. I guess I was supposed to go through every box while the truck was being unloaded to check for damage, but had 90 days to submit the paperwork? There was a 5-man team unloading items and entering the house through 2 entrances, some boxes and items were left in the garage. I could not keep track of everything. AVL used a $200 rain barrel as a packing vessel. It was filled with tools, then a chain was taken out of a tool box and thrown on top of the tools. The weight and sharp angles wore a hole in bottom, which wasn’t discover until I emptied it. A wood cabinet was destroyed. AVL put it in the garage and buried it with boxes so that I couldn’t see it. Out of “good faith and customer service”, AVL offered a settlement of $250 for the items damaged or lost that were not listed on the bill of laden because of the photos. As per their agreement, AVL had 120 days to respond to that claim. After 121 days I called them. For me to accept their pitiful offer of $1483, I must promise that I “will not, directly or indirectly, make any negative or disparaging statements”. I would rather be out the $1483 and inform others of our experience.

Tried to get a quote to move my things from NC to CA. I told the lady I had already moved to Cali but my stuff was still in NC (Military), she asked me if its a 1 bedroom house or apartment. I answered 1 bedroom house because that's the amount I need to be moved, my belongings are actually in storage. She asked if there are steps from the house the things will be picked up from, I told her the belongings are in a storage and that there are not steps. Her reply was "When I asked you it was a house or an apartment, you said house". I told her I can hear the attitude in her voice and that my stuff is in storage and the size of everything was 1 bedroom house. She said "I know what I asked you". Super unprofessional! I only requested a quote because of the good ratings I seen online, I'll make sure to let people know exactly how you guys conduct business.

So far I have scheduled the move, which is to a different state ... and I must say that dealing with “Francz was a total pleasure. He was professional, personal and accommodating. Prior to dealing with him, I spoke to 3 other companies and it was not a good experience ... rude & condescending. I have to say that he turned my whole day around. I have other family members that will be moving to the same area after there homes are sold. I have passed on “Francz information and shared my good experience. American Van Lines has an excellent employee in Francz. One more thing, I felt that their pricing is quite reasonable, not inflated like some of the other moving companies. I definitely give a high recommendation.

People were friendly and I trusted them. But a significant number of things didn't arrive at my new location -- random things - like my favorite painting, half of the dollhouse, cooking items, linens, tchotchkes. But because I couldn't identify particular numbered boxes that were missing, I got zero understanding or compensation. I read this on someone else's review and didn't believe it - but it is true. YOU NEED TO WATCH EVERY SINGLE BOX THAT LEAVES YOUR HOUSE AND CHECK THAT THERE IS A NUMBER ON IT. Otherwise, you're SOL when your items go missing.

Super fast! We moved our 1 bedroom apartment from Dallas to North Carolina. They picked up on Friday and delivered on Monday. Just 2 days in between. The drivers took good care of our things while moving and nothing was damaged. They labeled every item and every box before loading it on the truck. About the price, I am impressed there as well as our weight reduced than the estimate, they lowered the price too. I was quoted 1995 initially and ended up paying 1650 (weight 1100 pounds app.) I am done opening all of the fragile items and nothing is damaged. I wish I remember the drivers name to mention here. They unloaded and setup all our furniture very carefully and even helped to hang our wall decor and pictures.

We hired American Van Lines for an intrastate move four hours from our former home in the Fort Lauderdale area to the greater Orlando region. They were professional from the start. Allan Bleecher was our main contact. He detailed every item in the house that needed special attention and answered phone calls promptly. Allan stayed with us the entire move, calling during the 3 days it took to pack, load and move to make sure everything was okay, along with Elena Morgan who was our moving coordinator. The men came on schedule, were polite and efficient, and packed our furniture and fragile items with care. We had no mishaps and were very pleased with their professional approach. As for pricing, it was on a par with other companies. Basic insurance comes with the price but you can add more coverage. At our new house, they unpacked the furniture and placed it where we wanted. The boxes went into the garage. I would highly recommend this company for the ease of operation and the care they take of their customers.

I recently had the pleasure of working with American Van Lines and would highly recommend them for packing and moving services! I have moved many times and typically pack my things myself but this time I hired them to do this as well-which I was very concerned about! I had asked one of the packers, Jack to let me know when he got to my china cabinet as I wanted to see how he was going to do this, he said no problem. I explained to him that the items in that cabinet, while not high value in dollars, were from my Grandpa who has passed away and the sentimental value was irreplaceable. At that point he told me not to worry he was going to pack and treat my belongings as he would his own. When observed him throughout the day I can say that is exactly what happened. They were very professional, efficient and paid close attention to ensuring everything was very secure. I was completely impressed and pleased with their services. I have nothing good to say about America Van Lines, so I’ll say this…go with ANY other moving company because this one will cause you nothing but a headache and constant frustration. Not only were they 20 days late in delivery per our contract but not once during the 6 weeks that we waiting for our stuff did they reach out and give us an update. We constantly had to follow up and ask for updates to which they always respond that there was no update. Then our job number was moved to someone else because we asked for escalation, so Rebecca was now our main point of contact and she was even harder to get a hold of and when we would finally get a hold of her after persistently calling she would tell us to expect delivery on certain dates and then would never follow up again. Getting our hopes up to then just ignore us for days. They breeched our contract, gave us attitude when we reached out for updates and even lied about delivery dates. Oh also, they were supposed to give us 24-48 hour notice as to when they would be delivering our stuff but of course called us a few hours before, same day with a 3 hour window. We let them know many times that were were out of the country celebrating our honeymoon so we needed to coordinate for a family member to be at our place during the delivery. I could go on and on about the issues we encountered with this company but overall I’ve never experienced worse customer service then I did with American Van Lines. Save your money, time and sanity and please do not use this company.

American Van Lines** moved me from TAO HI-RISE in Sunrise to house in Coral Springs. I was worried about TAO having so many restriction on the move . The move had 1 of 2 elevators reserved from 9-1 so that the moving men had to HUSSLE, of course not damage anything. I lived on 17th floor , 3bdrm,3bath. American Van Lines men with dollies, boxes, and furniture had to go thru hallways which left them on other side of building, where only moving trucks were assigned. Every 15-20 mins security for building came around checking. My nerves were shot thinking we were not going to make move on time. Once 1p comes elevator is assigned to next person moving in or out. Well to say.....the 3 men were great and finished before 1pm. The guys knew the situation and they made it happen. I wish had used them moving into the building. If I move again I will call my rep JenniferAnn , she will make my move...Kudos to the BOSS for hiring such great people....

We had a very difficult move in relation to the time allotted due to a death in our family and they worked with us to make it happen. There was a last minute change on their part- -and we were not happy. (But do note we had a difficult timeline they worked hard to meet) We continued to work together and AVL met their obligation and then went above and beyond to help us get our move done. During my experience with American Van line found out that if there is elevator in your building and your are living at 3rd floor and moving to 4th floor of the building that has elevator, the moving expenses will increase by couple of hundred dollars. But when the movers came to your place to do the job, the first thing that they are looking for is the elevator. This hasn't made sense to me at all and need to be changed; because it is obvious that elevator makes mover's job easier than they move stuff through stairs!!!!! Then if I recommend AVL to my friend and family I will tell them to be aware of that and negotiate in advance as I did. Still I don’t understand the reason. Despite of some broken glasses and not delivered an item (the Wooden Lamp stand), I am satisfied with the job that was done “

I have moved more times than I can count, and this American Van Lines move from the East to the West Coast was by far the worst move of my life - more misrepresented at the front end, more stressful in the process and more damaged at arrival. The paperwork was less transparent, and the documentation was more confusing. Unless the cost and logistics of your move are being completely handled by your employer and insured for full reimbursement by Baker International, avoid AVL even if the competition "appears" more economical. (Appearances are deceiving.) At the front end, my AVL sales representative made representations that proved baldly false. In the process, despite promises to the contrary, the move was contracted out at the last minute and not provided by AVL. The subcontractor, whom I had no role in choosing, was dispatched to our home without up-to-date paperwork on the size and pricing of our load and arrived with a van incapable of accommodating our belongings. A three-hour telephone standoff resulted while the pricing was argued and negotiated between AVL and the vender, but that didn't fix the size problem. Eventually, the crew loaded what belongings would fit into the van, drove overnight to New Jersey to unload them in a warehouse and came back in the morning for the rest of our goods. The whole process from the three-hour standoff through the second load lasted 24 hours, a record. And then, when the load arrived in San Diego, a dozen items were broken, most of them irreparably, and boxes were missing. I could provide a laundry list of tactics to minimize the risk of experiencing what we did, but the only guaranteed one is to move with another company. I will say the customer service representative who troubleshot the move-day issues was responsive and, in the end, broke the logjam, and the moving crew dispatched from New Jersey also did its best under tense conditions. However, more truthful and professional front-end service from AVL sales, professional follow-through on representations, and better communications between AVL and the subcontractor would have made customer service triage unnecessary. I can't recommend strongly enough against using this company. How they end up in the top 5 of various websites is a complete mystery and suggests paid placement rather than organic results.

I don't understand this gross underestimation. The movers were very professional though. They started working promptly and packed everything. I was in charge of our family moving a couple of times in the past, but due to a recent injury we had to change our plans and seek for help. We knew that moving companies would charge a fortune for a 3 bedroom out of state move. So we started making calls to gather quotes and pick the most affordable company. American Van Lines gave us the cheapest quote after some negotiation and quote comparison against the competition. Cheapest choices are often regretful and I expected shortcuts or hidden fees eventually. But to my surprise, the movers in charge arrived in time. These guys did the job swiftly within the scheduled hours with no accidents. It was quite revealing when the truck delivered our furniture at the designated location in Miami and find that nothing was damaged or missing during the move. All those horror stories you may find on the Internet about moving companies do make you feel nervous and suspicious. It’s good when professionals take care of you and provide exceptional service at an affordable rate. I’d recommend them to my new and old friends.

This company is nothing but a bunch of liars. I used them because I read good reviews. Those reviews were not true. I hired this company to move a small load from Pittsburgh to Austin. They quoted me a reasonable price and assured me that it would be delivered between March 28 - April 1st. On March 12, 2018, they picked up my furniture. After loading everything I found out that this was not the company I had hired. American Van Lines had sold my contract to someone else. My husband and I decided that it would be fine because they assured me they were a subsidiary to my company, Which is the first lie. Two days before my departure I contacted American Van Lines to check on my delivery date. I spoke to the dispatcher who assured me that it would be on time. From that time on they simply lied to me. The furniture arrived April 12, 2018, a month from my date. I would never use this company again and hope no one else will either.

I'm luke warm about AVL... I've had issues with the charges and ruined furniture. The people I have dealt with face to face have been great, but as soon as its a phone conversation its not so good and the communication is really poor. Had I known I would end up paying extra I would have chosen another company. My recommendation - make sure you are 100% clear on charges and sign up for an insurance that would have left me with less of a headache!

You do have to pay in full before your items are delivered though, which is risky if your items happen to be lost or damaged. One bookcase had a rock embedded in it, every single piece of cloth furniture was damaged, chairs were broken, and at least two pieces of large furniture just went missing. After the loss of my dad, my mom decided to move back to her home state 1000 miles away. During this difficult time, I researched companies and decided to go American Van Lines because they had the best reviews. The reviews didn't fail us. Starting from the first phone call, everyone was pleasant and very helpful. We dealt with Matthew handling all our moving needs. The men that came to do the loading and unloading were wonderful and friendly and clean. They were very efficient and even delivered a day early which was beneficial for us. We would definitely recommend this company. The only reason for 4 stars is because I didn't realize they sub contracted their moving trucks. Our moving truck was Quality Relocation Inc.

Truck was over 8 hours late for pickup which would have been smoothed over by a phone call from the driver which never happened during the four hour window that my sister and I waited on.. And our 'senior move coordinator' never returned my text. Took several followup calls from us to find out what was going on. Wasted our entire day. Delivery is scheduled to arrive between 3-5pm today. Driver called (2:30pm) had no idea that he would need a smaller truck to get up our narrow street even though it was specifically quoted on our job as we knew it would be impossible. "I'll need to find one" - he said.. And then he couldn't find our house on gps which is eye rolling. There are very few invisible neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Driver showed up here (3:30pm) Saturday in his 16 wheeler w/o a small truck AFTER WE DISCUSSED THAT HE WOULD NEED ONE and he won't be able to get up our hill. Thank god he didn't try and now he wants to push the furniture up the hill (basically 3 blocks). We convinced him that this would be a bad idea.I feel sorry for these guys. Driver said he would deliver Sunday morning. It's now Sunday. He never showed up. Again we had to call to find out if/when he would arrive. It's Monday. I called the driver @ 10am. He doesn't know if he's going to make it today. And he didn't. But he texted in the afternoon to tell me that. #progress Now it's Tuesday . . . Who is running this idiot farm? p.s. oh hey the idiot farm is run by Anthony Disorbo. I just looked him up. We both grew up in Coral Springs! You may want to consider a copywriter for your bio but so encouraged that you painted 3 whole trucks with your charities of choice. Quoting you, "Anthony feels that it is very important to constantly train his employees to work as a team and at the same time make sure to provide all of his employees with the tools to be successful." We got 5 quotes, we decided to go with American because the load, our stuff, stayed with one company and one driver. All of that was good. My only issue was I paid for a “long carry” and a shuttle truck to make sure my bases were covered. I SHOULD NOT have done that. I should have let them bill me for any extras needed. The shuttle truck was able to get close to my house and therefore no long carry was needed and big enough to carry all my house goods. So I paid for a shuttle truck, long carry and the normal truck move. I only got a refund for the long carry. Getting any kind of refund was way too much trouble. Quick responses to set up the move, no responses after the money was paid and load moved. It took an email to senior management for ANY response. Btw, the driver, Fred, was fantastic!

This review is based on my most recent experience, however I will comment on my past experience as well. I've used American Van Lines before with my move from IL to FL. That experience was great actually, great price, great customer service and great service. All items were picked up and delivered within a week's time and received several follow up calls in between. My most recent experience however is completely different. Since I had such a good experience last time of course they were my go to company for my next move from FL to TN. From the start it appeared great, customer service was responsive and my items were picked up in a timely manner. But it's been crickets chirping ever since. I call for a status and they tell me "we'll call you on ____ day with an expected delivery date". This has been going on for 5 phone calls now, no one calls me back!!!! What do I have to do to receive a delivery date? Are my items lost? Where are they? When will they be delivered? OMG! just call my please!!!!

I chose American Van Lines because it had been given high ratings by Consumers Report. I contacted American Van. They asked how much 'stuff' I would be moving, date and time. I filled out the checklist and gave them the info. The men came right on time, had no trouble in their large van, negotiating the hill & driveway. They brought the boxes to help me pack. As it turned out, I didn't need all the boxes. Surprisingly American Van did not charge me for the boxes I ordered, but didn't use. Their work staff was efficient and listened to my questions. I was completely satisfied with their work. They moved my 'stuff' to a storage place I had rented, sight unseen, in CA. The Main Office was easy to contact when I needed info, or help. My contact, Gloria, was always available. Awesome! I was totally satisfied with your services. I would use American Van Lines again in any future move and would certainly recommend them to others.

I have to say, if the rest of your team is as courteous, professional, and comprehensive in their approach to clients it is no wonder you get such great ratings. After charging $20k for a cross-country move, this company tried to fob off the move to a budget "partner" company days before the move. When we refused, they were late to start the packing and loading, and after confirming the arrival date three times, no one showed up with our stuff! We'd paid a different company to unpack us beginning the date they confirmed everything would arrive, and American Van Lines couldn't be bothered to actually deliver on the agreed upon date so we had to pay to reschedule them multiple times. When the American Van Lines workers finally showed up the next day, they did one load and refused to continue working the rest of the day (they knocked off at 1PM). The unloading ended up dragging out over 5 days and was extremely disorganized. Now that we're finally taking stock of what has actually arrived, it's clear $8k+ of furniture and possessions are missing! This company has the worst customer service we've ever experienced, which is ironic since they claim that's what they pride themselves on. Working with American Van Lines is like a nightmare that never ends. Stay away!

It was such a pleasant experience that when I sell my house in the near future I will defiantly hire American Van Lines for that move as well. I had to hire a Mover at the last min to move an old antique piece. After calling around a few places and getting nowhere I got in contact with American Van Lines around 5PM Friday to move an old antique Kenwood organ. Surprisingly they said they could have a truck there the next morning at 10am. Sure enough at 10am the movers showed up. This company refused to commit to a departure date until one business day before, even tho I booked months in advance. I ended up having three "moving coordinators " and working with three other customer service reps including supervisors. Then they missed their arrival date and lied saying someone tried to call to let me know, but I had no missed calls or voicemails. I told them I was unhappy with this. A supervisor threatened me with legal action if I posted poor reviews. I tried calling and emailing for two weeks trying to get a final weight and price, to adjust for extra charges that were on the estimate but not on the truck, as well as get an arrival date, with no response. After 24 days, I was told that they did not have a weight and would not give me a final price until after delivery. I would have to pay and then if there were any changes to the final price I would have to pay more or get a refund. I got to speak to a supervisor after holding for over half an hour. She told me I my requests were reasonable and that I would have a weigh bill and final price when the driver arrived the next day and that the bill would be adjusted to remove the extra charges included on the estimate that did not make it on to the truck. None of this was passed on to the driver. When he showed up he had a weight, but no copy for me. They required payment before unloading, but the price the driver asked for was still from the original estimate. I spent close to an hour on hold speaking with yet another new customer service rep trying to straighten everything out and finalize payment while the crew sat outside. The driver was polite and answered questions for me to the best of his knowledge, but he doesn't deal with the charges. They were capable, but one arm on my couch is broken, coffee table scuffed, directional arrows on artwork ignored, etc...I realize things happen, but moving is stressful enough without adding complete incompetence from a company on the other side of the continent who refuses to follow through on any step of the process.

This was the worst moving experience i ever had - and i moved a dozen times in the past 10 years. If you want a reasonably positive moving experience, this is NOT the company for you! Because this was an out-of-state move I went for the expensive one. The sales people were outstanding, professional, and so reassuring. As soon as you sign the contract and pay half, you see the tone changing: no one returning my calls, conflicting arrival times, no one answering the main line. The day they came for pick-up, they gave us a window of 5PM-8PM. They didn't get there till 10 PM. We incurred a penalty from the condo association b/c it was outside the moving window of 8am-8pm. In addition, they surprised us with a +$300 surcharge because they claim they needed a smaller shuttle truck. Why they didn't know this beforehand I don't know - probably complete incompetence and a willingness to charge more after you sign. I was appalled by the carelessness of the customer service on this upcharge, they simply did not care. On the drop off, I asked them to call the drop-off location so we don't get this surcharge on the other end. They assured me that would not happen. And what happens? Of course, all of a sudden a shuttle is needed. What's more, they didn't want to come up and drop off our stuff until we paid this additional $300 one more time. They basically held my furniture hostage until i paid them more. This is close to racketeering. I was absolutely furious but there was nothing we could do. If I had the time and energy, I would sue them. They should be ashamed of their business practices. But I decided they don't deserve my time and energy. Being this shady, they cant last much longer. IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND MONEY, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! PS: I see your response that you don’t have a record on me. My move was in the last month and you absolutely have record on me as this is the same gmail address I used. At least have the courage to admit your mistake. Your customer service is as bad while responding to reviews!

Update: They worked with me to resolve the last three items, which constituted my major issue. The price of full insurance was $600, which I found steep, especially considering $600 in damages were done. Not sure how I could have approached this process better but the bottom line is that they made it right and accepted my damages claim. -------- I chose American Van Lines based on good reviews on this site. I wish I hadn't. 4 damaged goods and one expensive missing item later, the hell of using this company has really hit home. Here's a list of crappy things that went on with this move. PRICE: Exorbitant. If you've got a small brooklyn apartment with no kids... get ready to spend 3 months pay, basically $10,000 to get your things to another state PICK UP TEAM: Unprofessional movers. The squad that picked up our items were not American Van Lines employees but hired hands contracted for day work. They kept a terrible inventory log, somehow missing my coffee table and shelf (both wrecked in the move), all marked down with indecipherable scribbles on that press-through white/red/pink paper that you haven't seen since 1987. Their system is totally ancient and leads to mistakes mistakes mistakes for you down the line. EMAIL: Trying to email your representative directly? Sorry it goes straight to their spam box. They'll tell you this when you call, often. Unfortunately email is more than half the communication you'll have. WAIT: A 2 day drive can mean a 2 week wait for your items with no specific delivery dates or times available on your stuff for weeks. You'd think you'd be saving more money with a system like that. No. DROP OFF TEAM: A team member showed up at our house by himself without our items, they had been hired for the day and was not associated with American Van Lines. We were never alerted that this would be the case and were pressured into tipping the additional outside help. The truck driver showed up, unloaded items and proceeded to leave a box at our home that didn't belong to us. We texted him that day to alert him that there was someone else's item at our house and he asked we keep it outside for him to pick up later in the week. The box remained outside for weeks on end and he stopped communicating with us about its return. LOSS: They packed an item of mine, didn't log it, lost it and have claimed no responsibility. DAMAGES: My coffee table had the legs ripped right off of it, a huge crack split my shelf in half. Several boxes had huge holes in them from mishandling, leading to a shattered wine glass and platter within. We were told by the mover when it items were dropped off that all we had to do was take photos and make a claim online within 90 days. That's it. This was a boldfaced lie. CLAIMS: We were denied all damage claims, even after providing photographic proof of damage. This was because items were not marked as damaged with our delivery man upon arrival. He saw the coffee table was broken!!! Why did he not write it down!?!

I don't know how this company has such great reviews. Our experience was horrific. They called us the day before our move and pushed the move date back almost 3 weeks, due to a miscalculation on the truck size needed.....this was their miscalculation. Reading online reviews this seems to be the "modus operandi" of them and many movers. Bait and switch and charge more to give people what they thought they were getting in the 1st place. I read where they sub out to 3rd party carriers all the time and I told the supervisor that I didn't want a 3rd moving us as we contracted with American. I told her this before she came back from and extended hold period to tell me of the delay. So, now I wonder if they didn't give our move to a 3rd party company and this is why there was a delay for the American Van Line truck. Movers are the pirates of the modern world, preying on people who are counting on them to be straight and tell the truth. We booked our move a month before the move date. The salesman asked for a box and furniture count and we told him it wasn't complete yet. He said "no problem we just need to get you booked and you can add or delete up to a few days before the move". This apparently is a lie. We were they contacted by our "move consultant" but she was completely useless and even after promising to send her email address 3 times, she never did it...so we had no way to reach her and no direct line to call her. All we wanted was confirmation of our move date, as they give you a 3 days window rather than an exact date and certain items couldn't be packed until the day or night before our move. Finally, on the day before our scheduled move I was fed up, so I called and sat on hold for 45 minutes to speak to our "move coordinator" or one of her teammates. When I was unable to reach her for various excuses from the operator I asked for her supervisor. After a 30 minute wait for her supervisor (I wasn't giving up) a lady answered and said she would check...5-10 minutes later she came back on and informed me of the 3 week delay (remember my 3rd party mover suspicions). These people know they are wreaking havoc with the lives of the people who trusted them, they just don't care. We were in a panic. Since we were moving to OKC, we called a company by the name of A1-Freeman in OKC to see if they could help us; they are a North American Van Lines affiliate. Spoke with Bruce who was a seasoned veteran of the moving business and easy to communicate with. He did a face time walk through with us within an hour to see what we were moving.......something American didn't do. We also gave him a box count as we were ready to go by then. He stayed in communication (phone and email) with us all day, sent us an itemized list of everything being moved for us to sign (very professional), sent all kinds of documents and moving info (none of this was done by American) and just gave us a warm and fuzzy feeling that we were in good hands. The next day we had a 48 foot van at our home and the moving team was the most professional we've ever used and we've moved numerous times in the past 15 years. The following day we unloaded in OKC with another team just as professional as the ones in KC. The truck driver (Marvin) is a seasoned professional and he lines up his loading and unloading teams in all cities and it shows. He's a no BS, "lets get this done professionally" take charge kind of guy and the people he hires respect him and do a great job for him.......he made our move almost a pleasure. What a difference dealing with honest, communicative and professional people made during this move. American dropped the ball so many times and the customer pays the penalty for their incompetence. Please think twice before using this company.

Scheduling was perfect. I even received a call that my original pick-up and delivery date could be moved up which worked out perfect for me. The movers called and were a little ahead of time but that was okay. All of my items were carefully wrapped and packed with care. When my items were delivered to the final destination nothing was damaged or broken. I received telephone calls from the main office every step along the way and after the move was complete. Do NOT use this company. We unfortunately did for a cross country move from C.A. to N.C. This was a bad decision. We are past the time period where we could place a claim so we have no recourse at this point. If I am able to, I will post pictures. My wife and I were working at our new jobs so my father in law met the truck at the storage facility. Months later, I go to open the storage up and boxes come flying out of the storage. There were boxes thrown all over. They were not stacked neatly. Also, now that my wife and I are getting ready ready to move into our brand new house we find that the driver unloaded the wrong washer and dryer. How do I know this? First off, our dryer was propane and the washer is moldy and disgusting. The outside of them are thrashed too. This company is horrible, don’t use them at all! If I could give negative stars, I would.

We chose American Van Lines as our movers after contacting several companies. Their in-house estimator came to our home and thoroughly went over the costs and details of our move. He was very helpful and explained to us in significant detail the whole process, and gave us a printout of our inventory/contract, which made us feel assured that all would go well. Here’s my short review. I had a truck load of things picked up at my home in Long Beach, NY and dropped off in Clayton, NC. Driver Dennis and his helper Russell must be commended. They were the greatest movers I’ve ever met. They took such good care of all of my stuff, put it back together and all my glass tables and 52” JVC TV was just as they took it, not a scratch, mark or dent on anything. These two men just couldn’t be better. They really worked hard for their money and treated us as a family. What a racket. I moved across the country and after the contract was signed and they had their payment the customer service went to zero. They outsourced to multiple other companies who I ended up paying directly, sometimes cash required. Even the insurance was outsourced. The carelessness of packing and unpacking made me cringe. Everything was rushed and things got damage. Plus - an entire section of my kitchen never made it across the country and now I'm getting a huge run around on the claims process... which again is outsourced. I spent 4 hours entering all the details of what was lost. Got denied on my claim and sent to one of the outsourced companies to now complete their claims process. I honestly feel like they are just trying to wear me out so I give up. I just started a new job, in a new city on a new coast and this has been a horrible experience with the movers. I regret ever booking with American Van Lines. From the moment they took my deposit and I signed a contract with them they continued to push dates back, miss deadlines they told me they would get me info, and their communication and just plain ignoring me was one of the most unprofessional customer service experiences ever. My things were packed and ready to go from a storage unit in LA coming to Michigan. They just had to pick it up, no packing, and somehow almost 3 weeks into this it’s only been moved by another company they hired to another storage facility where is has sat for 9 days and counting. First, my sales person, Tim Tamkins. He was persistent but probably saying anything to make a sale. Within days of booking he missed my requested pick up date by almost a week (I wouldn’t have booked with him had I known this), as an afterthought decided I needed a smaller shuttle to get into the storage facility where my things were in LA, talking as if the actual tractor trailer that would bring my things across the country was going to just pull up, load and keep on driving. So he then charged me more for a shuttle. He then told me the truck of theirs that was going to transport my things broke down and they would have to subcontract it to someone local. Really? So now Cal Van Lines is involved as a subcontractor. “They are our best out there,” he said. Well if you look up reviews on Cal Van Lines they seem to be lucky if they have one star reviews. I was unable to be there for pick up because I had already moved. So I filled out a Power of Attorney for the person meeting movers in my place. Now I have a dispatch contact at American Van Lines, Rebecca Joassaint. I have a three day pick up window and they are coming on the last day. Cal Van Lines and Rebecca call me with a pick up window and they are different. Also in my conversation with Cal Van Lines they know nothing about the Power of Attorney. So I ask American to be sure they receive it. Pick up day. The driver calls me and is surprised to hear I am not there and knows nothing about the Power of Attorney. Once they go thru my things in storage my POA calls onsite and says they have a new estimate for me and in the background the movers are threatening to leave anything not on my inventory list if I don’t sign the new agreement. In the middle of this heated conversation Rebecca calls and I cannot pick up. I call her back 3x and leave a message to call me urgently as pick up is not going well. Several hours later she calls and begins to tell me what will happen at pick up, how they will reinventory my things and have a new estimate to sign. But this already happened! The delivery window is over, how about a call the day before? She then tells me my stuff has to sit for 3 business days, be weighed then on Monday she will call me with the balance due and delivery date. Monday comes around, Rebecca calls and says it has not been done and she will call me at the end of the week pushing things yet another week. In any real life sales or customer service job anyone missing deadlines, forgetting details, especially ones that cost the client more money, ignoring phone calls and emails would be fired. And yet here I am, in Week 3 with no stuff. Now my contact has been reassigned. And I have been informed it will be almost another 5 days before the next update. Is this company even doing what I hired them to do? My confidence level that this will happen is low. In my eyes they have literally done nothing in weeks of talking to them, have not been proactive to resolve this and have not even tried to instill confidence in me of their ability to deliver services they have been hired for. Moving is stressful enough. They could be doing a lot to instill confidence in their services. Use them at your own risk.

This was my first experience hiring a moving company and I was not prepared for how detailed my inventory of household goods needed to be. After numerous emails and phone calls I thought that my list was complete. However, when the movers arrived they told me how much I had left off. They figured out what their truck would hold and I adjusted what I needed hauled. Their contact at American Van Lines then refigured my bill. Within minutes Rigo and Jose (the movers) went into action. Two hours after a late arrival and about ten hours the next day the truck was loaded and gone. They were two of the hardest workers I have ever seen. They packed boxes and wrapped furniture in such a way that it would arrive unscratched. They drove north on I-95 until they were required to rest. Arriving in Va. Beach at 8:00P.M., they were unloaded by 11:00 p.m. My wife said they assembled the bed and placed everything in the appropriate rooms. If I had to do it again I would use American Van Lines and hope that I got workers like Rigo and Jose.

I recently had an experience with this company as well. Upon reading the last couple of reviews below I thought it was important that I also share my experience as this company cannot keep getting away with conducting business in the unprofessional manner they do, while charging a great deal of money for their services. I paid them over $8000.00 for my furniture delivery across states. Upon my initial calls I spoke to a man named Matt who seemed helpful, and we decided to proceed with hiring them. Well right after I signed their extensive contracts and paid half of the money due, their customer service drastically changed! They were completely unresponsive to my calls, refused to give me accurate information as to a window time so I could co-ordinate my acceptance of delivery in my new home, and kept adding new charges to my initial quote citing random additional amounts due for all kinds of things. My delivery became stressful and I felt pressured to accept all their charges and arbitrary rules because I already had paid close to $4000.00 and was in a contract. Things just got worse. When they came to pick up my delivery, they promised me a pack and move “team,” as I had paid almost an extra $1000.00 for this. Well their “packing team” consisted of the two drivers only who complained the entire time. I felt so overwhelmed with the way they were negatively trying to rush everything. As suspected the work was way too much for the two men alone in such a short time constraint, and they ended up leaving the contents of two entire bedrooms! They only packed the first two floors. We had to sell and donate all the extra things in the bedrooms and this was a nightmare. But they were now in possession of our stuff and we just wanted our expensive furniture delivered properly. This however was the ultimate fail. They showed up on a day they weren’t even scheduled to arrive with zero notice to us! Lucky I was even home to accept the large delivery. This delivery without notice was very unprofessional, but of course we were just happy to get our stuff. To make a long story short this new crew of three men ended up completely destroying a dresser, and our brand new painted walls. Disgusting! They said it was too bad and to contact the office for a claim. READ THE CLAIM FINE PRINT. They offered nothing close to the amount of damages we incurred and it was no point even going ahead with the claim. I would not recommend this company to anybody! They are rude, calculating, unaccountable and dishonest. They don’t care about you once their contract is signed and they receive their money. Horrible moving company and they should not be in business taking all our trusted money and leaving us stressed out the whole time, and with major unnecessary damages and financial losses. Listen to all these negative reviews carefully before choosing your moving company, as we have all been done wrong by American Van Lines and wouldn’t waste our time writing these experiences if they were not totally unacceptable and a complete disservice for your money and time!!

The truck came and demanded $3000 extra or they won’t load…. Newsweek ranked the American Van Line as one of the best in terms of moving service. This contrasts significantly with our recent experience moving from Little Rock, AR to Auburn, AL (Dec. 2019, 500 miles). We requested 4 companies for estimates to move our belongings of a 2100-sq ft, 4-BR home. American Van Line gave an estimate of $5100 after seeing the video we recorded for each room. With an additional $900, we were given the option of using an exclusive 26-ft truck for the move. The advantage of an exclusive truck is our belongings do not mix with those from other families. Further, the pickup and delivery time can be better estimated because they do not need to pick up/deliver other household belongings from other clients. I had no idea whether our stuff can fit into a 26-ft truck. They assured me that this was not a problem based on the video survey of our house. The price was settled at $6000 for an exclusive truck. On the moving day, instead of a 26-ft truck, they sent us a large semitrailer (which was about twice as big as a 26-ft truck). The driver made a visual survey of our belongings and declared that there were more stuff than they expected. After a discussion with the office, they demanded $3000 more or they won’t start loading. Kept it at the original $6000, we requested that they sent us a 26-ft truck and determined how much can be loaded, given their estimate that a truck like this would do the job. Since they did not have a truck nearby at that time, they went to U-Haul to get a 26-ft truck. After loading, more than half of our furniture were left behind, such as sofa (3 pieces), dining table set (1 table plus 6 chairs), several cabinets, several bookshelves, one 3-piece dresser set, lawn chairs (2 pieces), several floor lamps, etc. In a sense, they really helped us to down-size our household stuff effectively. Now we are left with a whole bunch of furniture that we need to deal with before we can put this house on the market for sale. The questions: (1) Is it an honest mistake when they made an initial estimate of $5100 (using a semi-trailer) or $6000 (suggesting us using an exclusive 26-ft truck)? (2) Is this a routine practice of this company, i.e., they give you a low price estimate and intend to hit you with an additional charge at a time you have difficulty to say no? Our experience has generated a lot of discussions on the social media. Some of my friends say it is an unethical practice, and they will never invest on a company like this. Others say the American Van Lines knows how to maximize their profit with this practice, so it is a good company to invest on. You make the judgement if you are an investor. If you are a customer looking for a moving company, think of my story before you sign a contract with the American Van Lines. They may have difficulty with the right estimate, or they may have a different motive when giving you a low estimate. Be careful….. like it or not, they may get you hooked and then ……. Additional notes: After a few phone calls with the company, they concluded that they did nothing wrong. Based on the weight/volume estimated by other companies (I provided the data to them without naming other companies), they said others would have done the same. I have no idea whether others would have done the same since the American Van Lines was the only company we chose. The furniture we lost in this process is about $3000, and it would cost about this much to get the furniture replenished. American Van Lines is not interested in paying for our furniture loss. They did offer $100 for a U-Haul rental plus $100 as a courtesy compensation. Thus, we can rent a U-Haul truck to get our furniture locally. We rejected the offer. The whole process dealing with the American Van Lines gives us a very bad taste. Moving is a stressful event…….I sincerely hope this does not happen to you. Be careful when dealing with the American Van Lines.

When called about the money being taken out again , They refused to refund and now the the bank is involved. Once I confronted the company about the second deposit taken out without our consent. After a really bad move, owner got involved at escalation, he definitely does want to do right and make things fair. Damage can happen, but if there is wrong doing be persistent in making sure you can get someone on the phone at the time it is happening, or something is being done wrong, AVL does call the movers to set them straight. In the end, it will save a lot of headaches and it will be noted on your file for claims and may help speed up the process.

I am editing my review based on conservations I had with Customer Service and contrition on their part. they felt my experience was atypical and were dismayed that I had such a bad experience. Below is my original post, use it as guidance to proceed with American Van Lines and I expect your move will be much more satisfying. *************************************************************************** I am sad to say that my experience with American Van Lines customer service was terrible and very frustrating. I know that they can do a much better job. My "pick-up" was scheduled on a Sunday which was fine with my wife and I. The movers for Amer. Van Lines never showed up. We waited at home from 8 AM until 7 PM. No one ever called to let us know they weren't showing up. I called the company phone multiple times and left multiple messages. Never got a call back. The next morning, Monday I called to find out if they were showing up that day and the phone was answered by Jeremy. He explained that he was the "Sales Manager" and "would personally oversee my move" so no other problems would occur. He also said he would "review my file and compensate me for the inconvenience". Never happened. The next day the movers were 5 hours late and finished at 12:30 AM with me helping them load boxes, moves items, take inventory, etc The 2 guys that came I will say were very nice and very cooperative but clear to me very inexperienced. I wish I could say things got better, but it didn't. I was told we would have 48 hours notice as to the arrival of my goods. MY building requires 48 hours notice to bring in supervising personnel, prepare the elevator, and whatever. They require 48 hours notice. I received one hours notice. I received a call from "Calvin/Kelvin" for my type of payment the day before they arrived. I asked him when the truck would arrive, he said it wasn't scheduled yet. He put me on hold and never returned. I called back and spoke with my "move manager, Kendra". She also said I wasn't scheduled yet. The next day, day of arrival, I received one hours notice. The building manager had to scramble and bring personnel in and it cost me $150 extra. The move-in was slow. Again, the two movers were nice and cooperative. Fortunately, they only broke a few items. I left 5 messages for Jeremy to call me, never happened. My sales agent, "Dorothy (Dori) " who was supportive and wonderful, said she would ask Jeremy to call me. Never happened! I know this company which had a 4.5 star rating can do a much better job. I will never use them again. Too much BS, poor customer service, inexperienced movers, discourteous, and disorganized. I do not like to downgrade any company. I Could only give them 1 star total due to late and no call -1star, Customer service awful -1 star, Sales manager not returning repeated calls and lying -2 stars, breaking several of my items -1star. Stay away from American Van Lines.

I am updating this review to reflect the fact that after seeing my negative reviews American Van Lines did refund me for the disputed charges and apologize for the experience. --- American Van Lines is an unreliable moving company which provides horrible customer service. I hired them to move from Florida to Evanston, Illinois and had numerous issues with the company. 1 - The company did a “non-binding quote” which included an extra fee for a delivery shuttle because I was not sure my new residence was tractor-trailer accessible. I called ahead of the delivery and informed the company it was tractor-trailer accessible, but the company still used a delivery shuttle and charged me. 2 - The company hired a 3rd party to pick up and deliver my items, but they never told me that this was a possibility when I arranged the move through them. American Van Lines instead informed me the week of my move when I had little choice but to use the third party company which I knew nothing about. 3 - I packed my items myself, and there were a couple items (suitcases and bags) where I specifically asked American Van Lines representative Theresa Collie whether I needed to box the items. I was explicitly told I did not need to box these items. When the mover came to pick the items up they told me they had to pack them and charged me for the labor and materials. 4 - Theresa Collie was my "Personal Moving" coordinator, yet she never answered the phone when I called, and she did not return the numerous voicemails I left for her or the emails I sent her. It frequently took over a week of calling every day to actually speak with Theresa and when I did speak with her the information she provided was typically incorrect (as noted above in point 3). Moving is stressful enough without having to deal with poor customer service. I will never hire this company again.

American Van Lines handled my long distance move very professionally from the booking stage to the delivery at our new house in PA. The whole process went as scheduled and movers arrived on time both for pick up and delivery. We did pack all the boxes ourselves, as we were quite comfortable doing it on our own, though they offer this service. Once the truck unloaded our belongings we were quite happy to learn that nothing was missing or was damaged. Not the most pleasant time in our life during the move, but the movers did their job very well. I recommend American Van Lines to everyone.

American Van Lines gave me a 9 day window for delivery, which already seemed pretty long to me, but they had good reviews, so I went with it. As of today (Monday, Dec 9), the last day of that window, they have already charged my card for delivery, didn't call when they said they would (twice-- once last week on Friday and once today), and when I finally reached them said they'll deliver on Friday or Saturday-- 4 and 5 days, respectively, after the maximum promised delivery date. So after sitting in an empty apartment for over a week with no updates from them, they will hopefully eventually bring me my things... almost a full week late. I initially wrote this review a few hours ago in frustration and have just edited the above to be more precise. Additionally, since writing, American Van Lines has called me twice. I have spent a total of 44 minutes on the phone with American Van Lines today. I asked the representative to send me an email of exactly what she was asking me to agree to-- which sounded like money in exchange for taking this review down and signing an NDA. Instead of doing this, she called back. I still have not received an email (edit: they sent me an email a little under 24 hours later, though it did not contain specific details about what they wanted me to agree to). During the call, the representative did tell me that if I received my stuff and some compensation but didn't take down this review, that it would be "double dipping," and leave them open to the possibility of me asking for more money. I felt that this was an unfair assessment of both the role of reviews in a world where most transactions are between strangers, and of my personal character. American Van Lines, I just want all my stuff, unscathed. I don't want to spend 44 minutes/day on the phone begging you to fulfill your basic obligations as a moving company. Edit: today, Tuesday, one day after initially writing this review, American Van Lines emailed me and then called me again. I have not received my things, so I will not at this time change the rating I have given this company. I have, however, updated this review to more clearly state facts and differentiate them from my feelings and opinions.

They took a deposit cancelled the day of the move offering a refund in 3-5 business days it's now 5 weeks and when calling they answer saying it's being processed and hang up. They are a scam they advertise BBB accredited but they are not. Stay away it's a scam...

Not a good experience. Ended up have to pay quite a bit more than was estimated because we “added items” which is not true. We actually had to leave a handful of items because they wouldn't fit on the truck. The estimate was just apparently way off. There were only 2 packers (one of whom frankly was super nice but nearly not fit enough to be moving large items) for a 2600 sq ft home with 2 floors and took 9 hours. One of them was reasonably complaining about how long it was taking and both were complaining about how wrong the estimate was. We felt so bad for them we gave them a bigger tip than we would normally. Our family with 2 young children had to drive 4 hours that night so didn’t arrive at our destination until 1:30am because they didn’t leave the house until after 8:30pm and we had to do other things once they left finally. They were nice and tried their hardest but the estimator Brian put that it was a one story and apparently didn’t accurately estimate even though he physically came to our home and I took him room to room. I asked to have him call me twice to discuss this and he never did. The arrival and unload went way better--they were on time, had 2 guys plus contracted another one and unloaded in about 3 hours rather than the 9 it took to load. The driver seemed very knowledgable and shook his head when he heard how long the load had taken and when I commented on the fact that our mattresses weren't bagged when they should have been. He said, "I don't know what these guys were doing" Very disappointed and frustrating experience.

Our 350 mile move could not have gone better, from the first phone call from us inquiring about services and prices to the last phone call from American Van Lines inquiring if we were satisfied with how our move was handled. The two gentlemen who handled our move were professional in every way. But not only were they professional, they were very polite, very efficient in their job and reassured us every step of the way throughout the move. While moving is never easy, these gentlemen certainly did everything possible to make it easier for us. Their work ethic was highly commendable. We would definitely recommend American Van Lines for any move.

American Van Lines are great. We've used them 3 times now for across the country moving. They make the process very easy and hassle free. They're good at working with my schedule and keeping in constant contact. The guys that pick up and deliver are great too. They are quick and very careful with all of our things. We will always use American Van Lines for our moving needs!!

I was told that my daughters things would be shipped from Philadelphia to Seattle and would be held in a storage unit in Seattle for quick delivery. I called to have her stuff delivered and found all her things are in New Jersey ! They would not let me even set up an appointment for a week. After that it could take up to 21 days.
