They said they would arrive between 8 and 9 am, they arrived at 8 sharp. The crew that moved us was respectful, friendly and punctual. Took the time to deal with some of our special requests. We were fairly well prepared and packed up and the guys took care of everything in a quick and efficient manner. They were fully prepared with all the needed tools to help quickly disassemble a sofa and our kitchen table and then help put it back together again upon delivery. The customer service was great as well, they called a week in advance to confirm the date and start time and answer any questions we had. The quote for the cost and number of hours was spot on and in fact the crew got things done a bit quicker than we were quoted. Overall great service on what could have been am extremely stressful moving day!

This was a local move with 4 weeks of storage in between homes. So many items were damaged. Furniture, bicycles, items in boxes (which admittedly I packed but I have packed my own move several times and never had anywhere close to this many things broken). My microwave and stove were dented. The movers were not careful with our things in the least. They made at least three dents/scratches on my walls. Most of the damages we only discovered days/ weeks later. They didn’t even bother to tell us. Also for both the pack and unload the movers spent a decent amount of time standing around and took a full on 45 minute break which I was charged for in the hourly rate. Full disclosure, I only reported the bikes...Most of it I shrugged off but as more and more things came to light I felt compelled to write a review.

This is an update to my original review: I hired John Gray moving, who as it turns out is a subcontractor for North American Van lines. John Gray have themselves subcontracted the move to several other companies. This made it less possible for us to know who is accountable when we lost some of our boxes while moving from Toronto to Montreal. Eventually we learned that North American Van Lines were the actual company moving our things. 3 of our boxes never made it, and up to recently I thought this included pictures, but these resurfaced among my thing after all. i did however loose other valuables. I filed a claim but that didn't recover my missing boxes. The company aggregates clients and places their belongings in storage, before delivering them. Each of these steps are apparently done by a differently contractors, which increases the risk of losses.

I had a really bad experience with this company. The service they provide is not even close to what they charge. Very expensive as compared to other companies. On top of that they delayed my stuff and there is almost no response to phone call or emails. Initially it will seem like a professional firm but it is not even close. For perspective, this was our first professional move (we moved to Montreal from Maryland with a U-Haul...) When we moved to Ohio last week, we decided to pay the "big bucks" for a professional move, and my wife and I agree it's one of the best decisions we've ever made. We paid extra for a full-pack and unpack as well, which was worth every penny, in my opinion. Our move wasn't without problems, but nothing was a direct fault of John Gray Movers and we were left with a favorable impression of the company. Chris told us he'd get our stuff to Ohio quickly; in the end it was delivered within 3 days of loading, and we paid almost exactly what Chris quoted us. Our driver Trevor was a superhero and worked through a couple obstacles to deliver our stuff on time. Moving is never stress-free or fun, problems can happen (and did for us too), but using a professional mover removes several layers of stress and I would recommend John Gray Movers to anyone.

Our move was fairly simple, within 5 KM, but we enjoyed having a professional moving company handle the move this time. We opted to pack the small stuff and have the boxes ready for their arrival. John Gray Moving took care of the rest, including the heavy furniture. They were very creative, since we have narrow stairs and everything was moved without damage. The team worked well with our direction, placing things where we needed them. It was very fast, they work very hard. This was the most shocking moving experience of my life. My items were not delivered according to contract, with not one person contacting me or returning my phone calls for weeks. My items then needed to be shipped to a different address because they were so late in delivery. When my items finally arrived they were wet, damaged, and lost. I never received an apology, the customer service was nonexistent. Do not use this company, I claimed $2,500 in damage and received $700 back after months of complaints and countless phone calls. They are affiliated with North American, but North American accepts little responsibility and was not helpful during my phone calls either.

Hello when leaving Dorval we had great service but when we got to Almonte Ontario we had only 2 guys to remove items from the truck. They did s move before us and they were tired and broke several things and we are missing items. The company charged us boxes we did not use. I felt sorry for the 2 guys they could not do a good job they were two tired. I asked Chris to return our money for the boxes but has not and he was supposed to straighten things out but has not. I am very surprised he would take advantage of us because I nee John and his wife you would think they would of treated us better. His workers need to be trained better I really felt sorry for them. Also with covid 19 work is slow for everyone but to RIP us off and break things and not to get back to us is not fair and to take advantage of senior people is very disappointed.

He is dedicated to not damage your items and his behavior reflects on his team. He moved me from Los Angeles to Montreal and it was a pretty big moving. I was really scared to loose items. Everything was there on time,nothing was missing! I had a few small plates broken but I am the one who wrap them, so use a lot of newspaper or bubble pack cause it does happen. They are not to blame .His team and himself help me to reinstall and fix a few items like my bicycle, tables legs removed. These people work very hard !! Thank you

This ‘company’ is unethical, unprofessional and just flat out terrible at their job. First of all, on the day of my move I had no idea when (or if!) they were showing up. I called a day before to find out, since a normal professional company would at least give you a window of time at least a day before, but they couldn’t. I called several times on morning on my move to try and find out a time they would be there until I finally got an answer about an hour before. The movers that arrived were unprepared. They had zero tools on them. I had to climb in to their truck, find one of my packed boxes and open it up and search for some tools they could use to take the bed apart! This all isn’t even the worst of it… Like every moving company, their final price is based on weight. They weight the truck before they pick your stuff up and then after. The difference is the weight of your goods and that is what you are charged. This company FORGOT to weight the truck before and after! So they had no idea the actual weight of my move. Instead of coming back with their tail between their legs and apologizing for their complete mess up, they demanded I pay the cost of a typical one bedroom plus 10%!! No consideration of the fact they totally messed up and maybe should consider a minimum charge (if anything), considering they had no idea what the actual weight was. I had a small junior one bedroom with very little stuff and a lot of cheaper and lighter IKEA furniture. The original quote they give everyone before they move (based on what they think a one bedroom should be) was outrageous but I was always comforted by the fact that, once my move was done and goods weighed, my bill would be much less than a regular one bedroom. I didn’t get that and therefore am sure I have paid far more than what I owe. So these guys actually made money off of their complete screw up! The only part that got done right was my car shipment, that was commissioned to another company (go figure!) and I was always happy to pay the cost of the car, at least that company knew what they were doing! Embarrassing! There was never any type of an apology. In fact, they seemed annoyed that I questioned them on a totally arbitrary guess of costs that were not based on the reality of my actually goods whatsoever! They tried to do everything over the phone as well, probably to eliminate an email and paper trail of this horrible mess and unprofessional conduct. I finally paid them to get them out of my life. It was such an horrible experience and I did not want any more contact with these crooks! Ended up with a MINOR discount, still not what was ethical or valid for the situation. It’s funny when you see them respond to negative reviews saying to contact them so they can help to fix a problem, when behind the scenes it’s a different story. Please don’t be fooled! You must be here doing your homework before you decide on a mover (I wish I had done mine better!), I truly hope this post encourages you to keep looking or to decide on another company. There are plenty of moving companies (it’s a big industry). I guarantee you can find somewhere better than this! It’s a low bar to even get PART of the job right or not cause distress to a paying customer who hired you and trusted you with a move (which is stressful enough). Please beware!

Moved in June 2019 from Montreal, Canada to Raleigh, NC, USA. I did not have a lot of boxes to move around, even had requested a last-minute pick-up date, but everything went well with the move nonetheless. Prices are mid to high range among quotes I had gathered. My contact in Montreal was great and very accommodating. Moving teams and transit were fast and efficient. Delivery took less than 2 weeks, very fast. No damage, even on more fragile equipment (guitars). The delivery guy was alone with a gigantic semi truck (for only a few boxes), which did not facilitate driving around the gated community, but no worries whatsoever. I will call John Gray again if needed, no hesitation.

Horrible service! First the delivery guys wanted to come in with their boots on, which I have hardwood floors. In Montreal winter, to come into someone's home with slush, salt and mud on the hardwood floors? Really? Btw did i mention I was paying for White Glover Service,. If they had a runner or boot coverings then it would have been fine. Shout out to John Gray, buy runners and boot coverings if you want your employees to walk on peoples hardwood floors. #Costco, should end their contract with you as their delivery company, because they are an extremely reputable company and to be associated with you hurts their Brand. Oh did I mention, then they refused to get my adjustable bed in working order, isn't that the purpose of white glove?

Do not recommend using John Gray when moving to a new city. Even with a two week window they still delivered 5 days late. Of course you have to pay the balance of your invoice before they will release your stuff. I received no reduction in the bill afterword. Overall a terrible experience.

The movers were very professional - tracking every item loaded onto the truck, making sure everything was well packed and securely loaded and delivered without any issues. Beware of these guys. They're not an ethical company at all!!! I used them for my move mostly because they claimed to have insurance, which put me at ease since I had some old furniture I didn't want damaged and they seemed to be professional. Well...they damaged a bunch of my stuff, including furniture, floors, and doors!!!. Now, I've been trying for months to get them to remedy the situation and I've mostly been getting the runaround. The quality of their work is mediocre at best as they take their sweet time given they charge per hour. Avoid the headaches and get a professional company to move your stuff.

So here goes my rant for the day, now that i have the time, with a big thank you to John Gray Moving...NOT!!!!!! Lets get the word out there so they do not stick it others as they did to me. We recently had a house built which required us to move into a temporary home. The move to the temp home with another moving company took 7 hours to accomplish, the exact same move to our new home using John Gray Moving took an outstanding 11 hours, yes 11 hours. They milked the cow like there was no tomorrow. I called the sales rep the following day, and he too agreed that there was no way that move should have been 11 hours as he had physically come to assess, however, the bosses stuck by the their crew, and of course they did, they milked the move an extra 4 hours at $155.00 an hour plus tax. Lets do our part so they don't shaft others...spread the word. Cheers

I recently moved into my new condo in the west Island. John Gray moving handled all the packing of our furniture and delivery on time. This company is very professional in all aspects of their business dealings with me.Their employees are well trained and enjoy working there from my point of view. In Contrast to this I had $10,000 in furniture bought from The Brick and delivered by an outside contractor for the moving. They off loaded their truck with snowmobile boots on in the mud and crushed fine stone and delivered it to my condo with their dirty boots on. They scratched and pitted my new hardwood floors because of their lack of proper training. I now have about $7,000 in damages to my floor and that moving company is unwilling to pay for the damages. I now have to hire a lawyer to address this issue. Moving into a brand new condo by the lake should be a wonderful experience. John Gray moving did their part while the other company from The Brick made that part of my move a nightmare. The moral of the story for me is you get what you pay for.

We just used their service and had a long-distance moving from Montreal to Halifax. I give them this 2-star and it is only for their moving staffs at Montreal side. They were nice and professional (disassembled and packed well). However, the company hired someone else here in Maritime for moving our furniture in new home. It was an unhappy experience. It seemed they did not know their responsibility to re-assembly our beds (it was in the agreement) until I asked them. They were not happy to do that and did a terrible job. Screws were not tightened and I had to fasten them by myself later. Some holes unfilled as screws were missing (may not be their mistake), but they did not tell us. I had to buy some screws from IKEA. The kids play table was found damaged. We still tipped them well. Their customer service team need to be more efficient and work more seriously. They made some mistakes, including giving us a wrong quote (to Vancouver) first, did wrong calculation, and recorded a wrong phone number. Communication with service team was not efficient. I called in several times during the moving and I did not get call-backs they promised. They claimed no hidden fee, but a 1000-lb weight less only reduces $200 (I am not professional on this, it might be reasonable). The delivery time was a little unexpected longer, totally 16 days, which we do not know if it is reasonable.

Cannot recommend this company. The switched my moving date to my birthday for a larger customer. Lost my end table. Broke a maple bureau, took my loveseat apart and didn't put it back correctly, had to donate it as it was totally unusable. They just didn't care after I told them everything. Will choose small local movers next time.

This is hard to do because I have always looked at the best in any situation now I'm left to reality and can't deny how terrible and disappointed I am with this company and its standards. Not a smooth transition or stress free experience.. What ever happened to the principle,"whatever you do work at it whole heartedly!" Very dirty!! Had to clean up after them picking up empty roles of tape wiping coffee they spilled, not environment friendly and they forgot a lot of stuff to pack plus they dropped a lot of my stuff. They really didn't care even after I was kind and tipped them well...Very unorganized!! Bad communication skill and terrible customer service.. The whole team and the one running it all are not the sharpiest tools in the shed. If they have been successful at all its not on their own merits but from miracles and blessing from above!

I have used John Gray for many years, and just wanted to put some of my two sense in here. I did a move with them last year and i should have wrote this earlier. I cannot thank these guys enough. Everything went smooth on time and they even moved my oversized fish tank it arrived in pristine condition. Seeing how heavy it was i can tell these guys really cared. Efficient and good communication with office staff throughout. However, the movers who came to load the contents of the apartment into the truck were extremely unprofessional, making inappropriate comments throughout. They also didn't wear any protection on their shoes so I ended up with multiple black grease stains on my white area rug from their work boots.

John Gray moved me on April 30th to my new address. it was an excellent move. the team was very polite, courteous, very helpful and hard working. they went above and beyond my expectations. I had to change my moving date several times (out of my control) but the people at John Gray was extremely patience, helpful and cooperative. they did not give up on me (which at one point I thought would happen) but they stuck with me all along my journey and the day of the move was perfect. the team made me feel very relaxed and there was not a time that I felt pressured and anxious. one of the team member kept singing while working which made me feel so at ease and happy. i strongly recommand John Gray moving without any hesitation.

I have read horror reviews about certain movers but John Gray Moving and Storage weren't one of them and now I know why. From the day that I received my quote to the day the move was completed it was courteous service. The communication was there, the quote was reasonable and no hidden charges. Branden the rep was cooperative and did everything within his power to accommodate us. The final cost was the price quoted. I was in communication with everyone down the line from Branden, the rep, The two movers who picked up the items, the driver hauling the load half way across the country to Rose in collecting the payment! Lol Always polite, helpful and caring. Good job guys! 5 stars from me!
