I have had the occasion to use Hoyt's Moving and Storage twice in the last 14 months. The first was to ship a collection of 17 vintage motorcycles and parts from Halifax to a collector in Wales UK. The second was to move a family member from Halifax to Ontario. One both occasions the the Hoyt's team were professional, fast, efficient, curtious and most of all went above and beyond to ensure all items were packed for transport in such a way that they arrived at their destinations damage free. Packing 17 motorcycle and parts in a container for ocean transport across the Atlantic in February, so they arrived in Wales without a scratch, is truly an art and a testiment to skill of Hoyt's professional team.

We had a good experience with Hoyt's Moving and Storage when they came to unpack our boxes. They unpacked everything and put together the furniture that wasn't completed by the previous movers. They also came back and hauled away all our cardboard and packing paper afterwards. The guys were polite and friendly and did a good job.

My fiance Jonathan and I had our household items moved from Nova Scotia to Quebec for a military move. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. My wedding dress was stuffed into the bottom of a box, not even hung in a wardrobe box which I absolutely cannot understand. It is brand new and never worn and now it has to be repaired and dry cleaned. My brand new motorcycle helmet that I only had one chance to wear was also stuffed into a box with a metal basket that scratched the entire visor and chipped the helmet. Not even a single piece of paper around it. Almost all the boxes were not filled to top ending with everything being squished under the weight of other boxes. Many bent and broken things resulted from this which will be impossible to claim and will most likely come from our pocket.

I manage a professional photo labs.In the past 20 years I have used Hoyts for moving our very sensitive equipment. This past week we hired them be part of a major move and expansion. Not one single piece was damaged.Some of these pieces weighed 450 lbs! Everything was done on time with a crew that smiled and were courteous and friendly. What blew me away was our last big push was on a Saturday. They had to move some very heavy pieces. The lead persons name was Kim. She was the GM of the Dartmouth company! The bottom line is that these guys get it done professionally and on time. You can't ask for any better then that. Although we were quite pleased with the team that helped us move out of our home, we were shocked to learn that the actual weight of the shipment was 39% higher than the estimate provided by the Hoyt's representative, as he indicated he's normally within 10% of actual. We did not hide anything during the walk-through and if anything, sold more before the move than we originally anticipated. Although they did price match a competitor's price, which was much appreciated, the incremental cost was still roughly $1,500 more than they suggested. We did not learn of this until it was packed in the container and we had no choice but to follow through. We understood that heavier loads translate into a lower cost per unit of weight; however, the cost per kg remained the same even with the load 39% heavier. The receiving moving company did not assemble anything, nor did they move anything past the front entrance way, as the vast majority went into the garage because the home we moved into was furnished; this saved them many hours of labour. Although United Van Lines Canada offered us $200 in the end, this paled in comparison to the unanticipated extra $1,500. Although I might suggest getting a guaranteed price at the time of estimate, we were concerned that we could be paying more than the shipment was worth by taking that approach. Perhaps a good idea to get several written guarantees would be the way to go? Update on April 9, 2017 - although I checked my post for some time after I made it and didn't see a reply, I figured I'd be notified by e-mail if there was a response (so stopped checking my post), but was not the case. I left Carrie a voicemail well over a week ago and have still not heard back.

UPDATE - Jan. 6/17 Gone back and forth with the Quality Control Manager (Carrie) and still awaiting for a response from December. Have not heard from her since. Still can't believe this process has taken this long!! Crew moving us out of our home did a great job, the crew moving us into our new home - not so great. One of the crew members didn't look like he hit puberty, not really what we wanted to see when we are paying thousands of dollars for a moving service. The crew was unable to get two of our couches into the basement, took full advantage of our hospitality (drinking beers, taking lots of breaks inside the house), and by the end of it got tired of the job and put a bunch of boxes that we had labelled for other rooms (upstairs and downstairs) and stuck them all in the living room. Not impressed with the claim process either. We had denied the additional insurance coverage, assuming the crew would take a standard duty of care moving our possessions. My husband witnessed them drop our couch twice in the driveway while moving it. They didn't take drawers out of the dressers when moving them upstairs, letting the obvious happen (drawers opened while going up the stairs and smashed our walls). All very careless and signs of them just rushing the job. The claim process through Campbell Brothers (their head office?) has been painful. They have been unresponsive, dragging everything along, and will not give us a fair claim settlement. They won't even respond to emails to us asking them to review our claim settlement. We had to pay someone else on top of the thousands we had spent to move our couches in the basement (a job they should have been able to do, they are the professionals after all), and we also have damage to our dining table that they are only willing to give us six dollars for? Ridiculous. If you are looking for a good customer service from beginning to end, I would NOT recommend this company. They were great at the start, up until they got paid, and then ignored us the rest of the way. Not how they should be running their business. Would not recommend to anyone... there are better movers out there.

I recently moved from NS to NL and the crew that provided their outstanding services was remarkable. Packing crew arrived on time and once they completed a walk through of our home they rapidly took total control of the packing. We felt totally comfortable with their professionalism and courtesy. They treated us with a very respectful courtesy and assured us that we would have no worries about their capability to securely pack out belongings. Throughout the packing they explained procedures and requirements which put us very much at ease. It was a pleasure to have them pack our belongings as we felt their respect for our items was their most important priority. The crew that loaded our belongings after the packing was complete displayed remarkable teamwork. They arrived on time, I trounced themselves and walked us through what would take place. They were extremely efficient and very professional. They explained what we could do for future moves that would provide us with assurance of security and safety of our items. They explained see if it details of the loading which made us feel at ease knowing they could safely load our belongings and that all would be in the same condition on the other end. We we especially amazed with how neatly and efficiently the truck was loaded. We felt as though they had rehearsed loading each individual item to ensure the truck was packed tightly and securely. Eric brought us from room to room explaining concerns and details to assure us the crew would treat our belongings as if they were their own. Each h crew member was professional, respectful, courteous and very helpful. When the required any input from us they approached us with the highest respect and we're thorough in explaining why they required our input. Prior to departing they ensured we had the proper contact information and explained the process that would be followed and how to contact Hoyts if required. Our belongings arrived at our new location when we were told they would. The driver, Steve Wilson contacted us when he was enroute to provide us with timings and to see if we had any concerns or questions. He was very professional and courteous. Steve arrived with our belongings on time and with a smile on his face as if he was a family member. He explained what the procedure for unloading would be and quickly proceeded to choreograph the unloading. He took control and it was an extreme pleasure to watch him work his magic as he unloaded his truck with efficiency and pride. He took the time to confirm proper placement of items and provided very helpful suggestions for how to arrange our items efficiently and effectively. His experience was reinforced with his professioalism. He was courteous, professional, efficient, friendly, helpful and simply amazing. I still can't believe how generous he was with providing suggestions to assist in all all aspects. It was a true pleasure to have him be an intricate part of our move. We will forever remember his professioalism, courtesy, thoughtfulness and efficiency. He insisted on providing a high level of service in a friendly manner that made us feel as though he was a trusted friend forever. Thank you for providing us with a special crew whose experience, courteous and professionalism made our move such a relaxing and worry free experience. My husband and I moved from Halifax, NS in the middle of winter where wet dirty boots may have been a problem. They covered our floors before coming in and did an incredible job disassembling furniture and thoroughly wrapping to avoid damage and also keeping parts together. Our belongings were placed in a pod where it was locked, sealed and stored until we were ready to move to a permanent location. Approximately 6 weeks later we had our new dwelling in greater Vancouver area and the movers came with the moving pod. They did a great job assembling and setting up our furniture in the proper rooms. They were very courteous and respectful of damaging any walls or leaving a big mess behind. Without a doubt, we would call on them again.

I contacted Steve to see what he could do and within minutes had my move switched to load into containers so my furniture didn't have to be unloaded multiple times. I contacted and spoke with the President of Campbells Moving in London, Ontario (the Head Office) as well as the VP of consumer relations; I have been dealing with these individuals to get resolution with the matter for the past 5 days. The end result from the president himself was, "we have reviewed the file with the Dartmouth office and were told the move was done property, and there was no wrong doing, other than leaving items behind - so I will take 1 hour off your bill and that is it." He also told me that he intends to put the account balance into the collection agency, unless I pay an additional $1,000.00 on top of the $2,500.00 I have already paid. The whole situation keeps reminding me of the family who moved from out west to the Maritimes, and the moving company decided to increase the moving charges significantly above the quote, and intended holding on to their furniture until they paid the increase. I paid more than I did last year for only half the work done, with damages to my belongings, and I am being threatened with a collection agency. This is the worst client service I have experienced in my life moving. Add to the fact that we are both seniors and were left with furniture taken apart and not put back together, and items that are missing from our household goods, that we cannot account for; end result "the move from Hell". I wanted to share this with others to give you heads up - ONE GOOD MOVE DOES NOT REPRESENT A GOOD MOVING COMPANY. BEWARE We used 3 great, professional movers from Hoyts twice last year with no issues. We had 3 men load and unload the 26 ft. truck twice and assist with packing for a total cost of $2,399.00 and total time in of 15 hours to do so. We booked 2 men a few months later for additional items from a storage unit with no problems and a reasonable cost. We dealt with a rude and disrespectful co-ordinator with the move last week and 3 very young movers who did not receive the co-ordination they required. The problem worsened given there was 1/4 of the house still not loaded. I had a speciality mover the day before the move take an additional 42 boxes (1 full room) with him to the new residence, which I thought would help the movers for the full move. We had also sold/gave to charity a number of larger pieces of furniture which was part of the downsizing.It took the movers until 11:30 pm that night to unpack the one truck (they had also brought two more helpers for the unpacking as well). Their invoice showed 4 men- 16 hours to load and unload the truck. I paid $2500. which was $100. more for 4 men to load and unload the truck once, than I did for the 3 movers loading and unloading the truck twice and assistance with packing last year, with an outstanding balance of another $1,000.00. The individuals were moving in to the former residence the next day around noon time. I had to scramble to locate some assistance for the next morning - there were two (2) other seniors assisting us to do so - I had to rent a uhaul, and we filled a 15 foot truck with the goods the movers left behind in our home. These movers damaged some of our property they brought in to our new home; there is also property damage to the inside of the home (it is a brand new construction). HORRIFIC MOVE - think twice, I only wish I had used another mover this time. The only reason I gave 1 star is that the page would not allow me to post this update without at least one star.
