There are two cinemas in Whitehorse. The Yukon and the Qwanlin. One is quite a lot nicer than the other and when I first moved to Whitehorse I struggled to remember which was which but after visiting both numerous times I learnt a little word association that can help jog the memory.
The Yukon cinema is the "Yuk" cinema.
The Qwanlin is the "Quality" cinema.
Quite straight forward really, and even though my definition of "Quality" is very loose in this case I still think its obvious that the Yukon is of a far lower standard. Yuk - on.
I read an article in a local paper last summer about how the cinema upgraded its sound and projector equipment and that people should be happy with it. Well, if a projector and speakers could sprout legs and brains and take over management of the cinema I would be happy because, believe it or not, my gripe isn't with the broken chairs, cup holders that should be called 'cup tippers' or even the exit light that's conveniently placed so its shines all over the right side of the screen, its with the management. I'm sorry but making people wait outside prior to a film in winter is just nasty. There's ample room in the corridor to run a divider down and allow a line to form inside the warm haven that is its lobby. Also, on Tuesday's when you know 90% of your patrons will take advantage of the cheap popcorn/pop deal, why not prep a bunch of popcorn and coke's so that the line doesn't suddenly stop on a busy night causing people who arrived 20 minutes early to still miss the start of their movie because you only decided to open the doors 15 minutes before the start time?
Anyway, I'm tired and have enjoyed my St Patricks day weekend so in the spirit of that I forgive you Yukon Cinema and will see you tomorrow night for some cheap popcorn and an uncomfortable two hours!
