DESCRIPTION

You will see all the opinions of real people who buy the services of McPherson Playhouse (Movie Theater) in Victoria (Canada).

Now the business receives a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 and this score was based on 127 reviews.

As you can read, the average score it has is basically the best one, and it's based on a very large number of reviews, so we can think that the assessment is quite faithful. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well, it works.

Smaller, clean, well maintained theatre. Concession has surprisingly reasonable prices. Don’t dawdle getting there during intermission otherwise you may not get a chance to consume your drink. Like any theatre, buy your tickets early enough to not to have to sit in the side sections. The ushers are lovely and friendly.

It's a beautiful theater, you get a view of the stage from the balcony were we seat in row E. The problem was some of the dancers would leave the stage and dance in the isles of the floor seats which meant we wouldn't see anything but an empty stage which was very frustrating. We went to see Ru Paul's it's a drag show and about 6 acts were off the stage and into the isles. Just something to think about if you're buying tickets for a dance show.

I found the person I spoke to at the box office to be very 'offhand' and not one bit helpful. In fact I thought I had just woken her up. I asked what time the box office closed as I wanted to pick up some tickets. She did reply 5 o'clock. I travelled some distance indeed (I normally pick up on the night of the show but I had upgraded so wanted to pick up the other tickets that someone else was taking)and went to the Royal Theatre where I had picked up tickets previously. It was closed. Unbeknownst to me it was closed all summer for pick up. I stood outside and rang the box office explained the situation to which she replied. Oh yeah the Theatre is closed all summer for pickup. I told her I travelled some distance and would not make it over to the Playhouse before it closed. I mentioned that it should be made clear where the tickets are available for pick up. She never replied to my suggestion in fact she was void of empathy and and did not so much as utter even an insincere 'sorry'. I thought perhaps she might have stayed an extra 10 minutes so I could get over there and pick up my tickets in light of the distance I had travelled and having not (in earlier conversation) been informed where to pick up my tickets. I am not a mind reader. Very disappointed in the service. Unbelievable really.

Kind of a cool playhouse. It looks newer until you are inside. The seating is uncomfortable which is too bad. But it overall cool place

An elegant theatre that houses some of the best shows of the city. Not the largest venue in town, but it has a distinct atmosphere that you will not forget. Any evening at the McPherson is a special night out. The theatre staff are friendly and efficient and there are ample restrooms and a stocked concession bar. Some people have complained that the seats are small for people with long legs. And some of the seating along the sides may have portions of the stage obscured.

Went to a comedy show that was brilliantly split between McPherson and Royal due to 50% capacity restrictions. Comedy was good. Loved checking out the early 1900's opulence inside the theatre. Very little leg room-felt like an airplane situation.

I have been to this theatre many times over the many years I have lived in Victoria and always had a good time. Most recently to see Mamma Mia which was an absolute delight. The mother and daughter team that headlined the show were fabulous. A wonderful evening, with the exception a little vertigo from the steep angle of the upper balcony seating!

Great venue, great sounds.. but if you have long legs wear knee pads.. There is no distance between your chair and the backs of the ones in front of you. Try and request an aisle on or possibly a balcony seat. Just wish these old theatres would look at renovating seats to accommodate todays length of legs.

“We Will Rock You” by Shawnigan Lake School was a stunning performance which took place at the McPherson Playhouse from April 4-7, 2019. The talent displayed by our local youth was amazing, singing many Queen songs. A very entertaining play. Thank you McPherson!

There was no warning when we bought our tickets to Wainright that our vision of the stage would be limited. I could only see the top half of the stage and my husband couldn’t see all of the bottom half. These seats were sold to us at full price. So folks stay away from Upper Balcony L132 133, 134 unless they do offer you a cut rate deal. I am 5’4” and could only see if I sat forward and leaned on the radiator right in front of us. My neighbour complained she had to look through a narrow area to see everything. When she went down to tell the people in the box office they said it wasn’t their responsibility and there would be no ticket discount. The tallish chap behind us sat with his knees crammed into the seat in front. Time to tear this theatre apart and put in comfortable seating. JoAnne Jarvis

Oh don't get me started about the Macpherson Playhouse. Not only is this a very comfortable place to sit and enjoy musicals, plays or currently "Queen". Tears ago I was part of the Victoria Operatic Society. We put on some wonderful plays such as Into the Woods, Jesus Christ Superstar and Man of La Mancha. Catch one of their musicals. You won't be disappointed.

A wonderful place to go to. The staff is very helpful. And the theatre itself is well appointed. Would go anytime.

I find the people who work at the box office to be very rude and not helpful - presale tix sign in was a joke all morning - just got the tix I could and now there are better ones and they won't switch them, very bad public service!

B. G.

A lovely well kept theater but they allow late comers in after the doors close. A lot of them.
