REVIEWS OF Admiral Theater IN Oak Bay

John McKay

Best theater experience! Super local, welcome, and includes beer/wine available for purchase. Way more comfortable than going to an over-crowded Regal or AMC...

Asa Buehler

Think I'm going to see Solo here! Pretty cool old theater that was recently renovated.Think they have 4 screens, they show 1st run plus some classics occasionally. If in the mood for nostalgia, come here.

Courtney Schoenfelder

I love that this theater is local. I used to go here all the time when I was younger but the seats were uncomfortable. Now that they have remodeled and have upgraded the seating, I'm more likely to come back. They have great popcorn flavorings as well and a large selection of candy at the concessions.

Tod Rodman

A classic traditional movie ???? theater. A historic landmark in west Seattle they promise to reopen after their current intermission

Stephen Grose

I really enjoy going to this theater now that they've updated their screens and seating. They were able to retain their small town theater feel and provide a visual experience that's comprable to the bigger theaters.

Andrew Berube (StanleyRoper)

A great local place to watch first run movies. I love that they kept the Admiral theme with the remodel and added more screens. Plus you can have drinks while watching your movie.

Joe Drake

The best ! Great selection of movies, 4 theaters. Bar on the upper level. Good staff. Redone comfortable seats. Parking at Bartell's.

Jeffrey Robert

Once they told us their card machine wasn’t working so we came back with cash. They then told us to go watch our movie for free cause neither worked at that point. Anyone who goes here knows why it’s the best in the neighborhood.

Karl Barmuta

Ok, so this place isn’t as nice as Cinerama. It doesn’t have state of the art audio or projection, it doesn’t have chocolate popcorn, and it definitely doesn’t have a rotating museum exhibit of costumes, but it does have charm. And beer. It’s great for a neighborhood theater, and they are slowly updating it. Very slowly. Support your neighborhood cinema and go see a movie at the Admiral.

Kiki Penoyer

Great theater, but the fancy reclining seats are uncomfortable for me because I am not a man. I wish that I could relax, but the seat leans back with no way to stop it. I can't be the only one who doesn't like these kind of seats.

Celeste Barquet

Always lovely. The kids pack is the best value (tiny popcorn, tiny soda, tiny candy (tiny price $6). They have $6 12 ounce beers too. The movie theater has outlived most people's grandparents...so there is that.

Melissa Soria

Nice neighborhood theater. Hope they decide to fully restore the murals from the 40's in some of the theaters. Picture and sound were good, but could occasionally here the rumble from the action film in the next theater.

Gordon Prinster

They are so nice and kind. I love cars 3 I seen the first time. They open it at 10. I love that. I'm back to watch again

Brian Meaker

Good spot for movies and becoming even better as they continue to upgrade. Also, there's usually a good Groupon deal but be careful. Sometimes they won't accept the Groupon if the movie you want to see was released within the last 2 weeks.

Joellie Welch

Not only were the prices high for an older theater, it was freezing cold inside and the prices were ridiculous. The staff were friendly.

Reese Malott

I would put a warning before purchasing tickets if that's possible. I was planning on going to a movie and it closed 15 mins. after last showing came in. we didnt get to go to our movie at 6:45. So, it's a little upsetting that there was no warning that it closes 15 mins. after last showing people come into movie theater. So $30 wasted? With no refund. maybe bad on my part but still warning before buying tickets?

Jason Parks

Do not believe the people hating on the Admiral Twin. The Admiral Twin is the actual best. Everyone who works there is the nicest and they love this damn theatre so much. The decor is very retro and charming and fun. There's also a tiny balcony up at the top, maybe ten seats or so, where you can bring in the $5 pints and watch your movie with an ice-cold beer in your hand. If that does not speak to you then I don't know what to tell you but you probably hate fun.

Terry Henderson

Great place, lovely staff and always the newest movies out. And they have beer!

Robert Plucinski

Awesome historical theater besides 45ft and Neptune theater are last few remaining seattle character theaters.

Eric Howard

Forget all those old (pre 2017) reviews. The Admiral has been remodeled with cool new seats, wall paintings re-discovered from 1942, beer and wine, and as always, the best popcorn in the city!

Landon Portwood

Popcorn here is my favorite popcorn out of any theater. Have been going here for 34 years and I still prefer it to going downtown to an AMC / Regal. The people who run it are very nice.(The seats are kinda rough though). It's kinda run down but it's part of West Seattle history. If you want some pristine perfect theater, you're not gonna be happy here though.

Trey Bailey

This was actually my first visit since the redesign a few years ago. If you haven't been yet, it's really worth it. movies are a little cheaper than the big chains, and it's nice to have a theater in the neighborhood. Moreover, it seems like the seating is well-planned, and there are a ton of great seats.

Sarah Butler

For a theater we can walk to...priceless! After renovations, they have four theaters. They also offer Mommy Matinees on Friday mornings with lower sound and brighter lightning. Perfect for new mommas! They also have beer! Popcorn (of course), nachos, pretzels, and hot dogs, along with candy options and Theo chocolate. I feel so lucky to have a local theater to go to, and that it will be a found memory for my little kiddos!

Jesse Willard

Fun theater. Seemed very family friendly. Good ticket prices compared to downtown. Lots of kids running around.

Siobhan B.

Will you show the spider man no way home?

Jo Bledsoe

This place is awesome. I love that I can get a 5$ pint to drink in the movie. It's nice they still show movies in this old theater

sorankin

I've never heard of a movie theater starting the movie at the Showtime. I went to see House of Gucci on Thanksgiving (11:10am showtime) and sat down at 11:20 with purchased snacks and a drink only to find that the movie had already started. …

Alan Brent Unger

What movie watching experience would be complete without a bin of buttery salty popcorn, fresh cooked and probably soggy with butter, and there's no one that does a bin of corn better than Admiral. Seriously, ask anyone. You may be off put at first by the closed ticket booth outside and the seemingly empty lobby, but the Admiral Twins fading paint hides easily the best theater in West Seattle. The seats may be creaky and the carpet might be stained, but I think that it's part of the experience. The scent of old popcorn, a flaking speck of paint, all tell you that the theater is the start of countless stories. While places like AMC or Regal call themselves movies theaters, Admiral Twin truely lives up to the name Theater.

Eric Wike

I've been here with the Groupon deal, everything was great, except lady - cashier, she tried to not let us in for some stupid reasons. The other staff was nice and the rest was pretty good for the price we paid!

Melanie Sinclair

The Admiral Theater is a historical staple in West Seattle. It has typically been a "budget theater" where you go to see a film after the main theatrical run, to save some money. And that's cool. It's nice having that. But they've recently announced that they'll be expanding the theater, renovating, and converting to digital. They'll have four screens by the end of the renovation, which will allow them to screen new releases. One really major downside is that theater is alarmingly invasive and paranoid about "outside food and drink"; which must mean that they are hurting for cash. They insist that you empty out your bag in front of them; or they will pry into your bag, open zipped pockets, and frankly, cross some boundaries in terms of what is socially acceptable to do in this situation. In my case, I had a sealed bag of dried mangoes and a bottle of water. I always have some dried fruit and water in my bag, and the woman at the front desk insisted that I throw it out or take it back to my car (assuming I drove). I assured her that I would be doing neither of those things, and that she could refund my ticket or let me go into the theater. She scolded me and made me promise that I wouldn't eat my dried fruit. I asked if there was any for sale and there wasn't. Stupid. Concessions are comically overpriced (popcorn is probably the only thing that makes any sense, given that you get a refill). But that's the theater business, I suppose. It's also part of the reason more and more people are staying home. You shouldn't be paying take-out prices for a crappy hot dog and a tiny fun-size box of candy. Why can't there be an even remotely healthy option? Why can't you at least pretend that you're not putting the screw to your customers with your 500% candy mark-ups. And more to the point: why are your theater employees allowed to rummage through my belongings? No other theater around here does that. Another downside - which they'd said they're going to address over the summer - is that the theater has very poor circulation and ventilation. In a screening with only about six people in the theater, it was uncomfortably hot. I can't imagine what it feels like during the summers (before the renovation). Still, if you can deal with those annoyances, it sounds as if the theater is in for some overdue improvements this year. I recommend checking it out versus paying the park at Westlake (even if finding spots along Admiral an California proves quite difficult).

B illerman

The workers there were not mean but they just seemed like they were annoyed with us and it was kinda expensive but I live a block away Toni give them props for location

Earl Bergquist

I love this place. Popcorn is great staff really sweet beer available in the balcony! I can get in without a wait.

erin wilmott

I love seeing movies here with my friend. Really great if you happen to miss movie release date and can't make it right away. Nice comfortable seats. Helpful and friendly staff.

Ben Levine

Been coming for years, yet experienced just awful customer service on my latest visit. Arrived a few minutes late with 5 kids to watch a 1:00 movie. Upon entering the movie, there where just a couple of scattered seats and I've never seen a theater so full. I returned to the counter and requested the tickets be exchanged for the next showing instead that started at 4:00. The lady insisted there were unsold seats available and refused to exchange the tickets. I'm sure she was following protocol, but I had 5 kids with me (some as young as 6) and I couldn't just let them all roam the theater to find scattered seats. Walked out 5 minutes after entering, down $66. At least I didn't buy any popcorn. Poorly handled I thought.

I understand the concept of having a landmark vintage feel at this movie theater, however there is a way to keep the retro style but still modernize it slightly. As others mentioned, it's quite filthy, the seats are SUPER uncomfortable and it actually smells old and musty. I like that it's a small theater, and especially like the convenience of it since I live just a short distance. The price should match the decor, they need to bring cost down unless they plan on updating.

Davkid Felthous

Restored theater with comfortable seats, interesting lobby. Nothing fancy but great venue for a variety of films. Worth the trip to West Seattle from the mainland.

Sean Berger

Beautiful classic theater, friendly staff, and tasty treat combos! Renovated seats and drink holders while keeping it's older charms. Blockbusters and indie flicks!

Nini Pardo

New remodel has been great for the theatres revenue I have visited many more times since!

Kidogo84

I real loved this nostalgic theater! Only 1 reason I didn't give it 5 stars: I'm a chunky butt, and my ass literally wouldn't fit in the seat! Next time I will just bring my own folding chair! I will be back many times....

Dan Gillmore

I love it's local.

Kevin Mitcham

The audio sometimes bleeds across theatres, but they offer draft beer and wine. Parking is a challenge but it's worth it to see new movies close to home, especially at small businesses like this.

Ian Lurie

Admiral theater is a lovely somewhat throwback venue for taking in first run movies in West Seattle. Staff is friendly and helpful. Beer available.

D0geDude

Great staff, awesome big theaters without feeling like a massive soulless chain. Love it.

Glenn Thomas

I've been going on and off to this theater for over 30 years. I'm so glad it's still around and it's still a reasonable deal compared to the other theaters out there. Every neighborhood should have a theater like this. West Seattle should be thankful.

Jason Gruenwald

Really enjoyed seeing Black Widow in this movie theater. Everything is pretty much up-to-date and employees are laid back. We'll be back again.

Matt Drake

The remodel is well underway! And, it looks fantastic, I might add. Restrooms are updated, one theatre (of the four) has been completed and seats are wonderful. Great screen, great acoustics. Murals have been painted, they are remodeling the bar area upstairs, too. It's really going to be a gem for West Seattle when all 4 theatres are finished. Definitely need to support them as this is a special historical remodel.

Deanna Siler

Great audio video . Renovation needs to continue tho. But hey it's a historical theater and I love it

David Wall

Beautiful historic theater, good beers, decent prices. Essentials when it comes to food selection.

Robert Flor

I love that it is local, and they apparently had a million dollar renovation, maybe they could have spent a tiny bit on new seats. Terrible, especially if you have any back issues. Oh, and ticket prices being more expensive isn't helping. Sadly, I'll be making the drive to the big theaters.

B Marchant

Really love our local theater! We love watching the latest films and are so happy with the renovations.

Jenn Leitch

The expansion/remodel is finished except for restoration of some of the undersea decor in the auditoriums. Sharp, bright picture, comfortable seats on platform floors, excellent sound. Occasional intrusive sound bleed from adjacent theaters since the screens are back-to-back. Upgraded restrooms.

Christopher Zoli

Really neat to see a family joint still in operation. But it seems like they could use an investment. They could easily become another Cinerama with the right makeover. There is a nice old school vibe, but the old school furnishings are muddled by some like 80's fixtures? I'll definitely go again. I hate cineplexes and would rather give my money to these guys.

Hoyt Roberson

Slice of local kitsch-history. Used to be a $1 theater that frequently ran Rocky Horror nights, now they play first run and hold vintage anime festivals. New seats with upgraded sound and still maintained the character. Good popcorn and toppings for it.

Dan Keller

Great historic theater with friendly staff... they offered a pre show for End Game which was really cool to see one day early!

Ethan Greger

Old timey charm. Usually never crowded, just got updated to digital and new seats. Huge bags of popcorn. Less expensive than the chain theatres.

Nathanael Fairchild

Quite clean and nice. The only problem was that the projector stopped working. After a ten minute break we were again underway. Did not miss the hassle of going downtown or to a mall somewhere!

Wesjaq Morris

Historical theater with nautical themed decor. Serving beer and wine. Wristband required to be worn while in theater after ID check.

Simone Menier

I've been coming to the Admiral Theatre my whole life, it used to be a second run, run down theatre, with the best kiddie combos, but now with the upgrades and remodeling its so lovely there! I love the original artwork in the walls of the theatres and the new seats and flooring, it looks fabulous! An iconic West Seattle landmark that got a well deserved new look.

Pranay Rai

Decent local theater, if not a little weathered and dated. Huge auditoriums.

Pansexual Child

Awesome, historic theater. What I like most is that the employees treat you like you're in a small town where everyone knows each other. Love it here.

Joseph Lucia

This a great 2 screen local theater. Though old and tired it has a wonderful art deco ambiance. Is there an angel out there who could kiss this quaint frog and turn it into a prince?

Irina A

I while back i watched jurrassic world here and the picture was out of focus the whole time, never has reoccurred. Came to watch First Man today and could just hear Bohemian Rhapsody the whole time from the next theater, but not too distracting. The seats don't recline and cup holders don't store up. Otherwise, cheaper tickets and food/drink then any of the big theaters. Staff are very nice and accomadating and bathrooms are usually very clean albeit small. The problems aren't really enough to deem it a bad spot, I still like Admiral and it holds a special place in my heart.

Stephanie D

Cool old school movie theater in West Seattle. Sound and picture quality are far better than I expected. They also do Movies for parents of young ones on Friday morning. It allows us to see some new releases without worrying about our kids making some noise and disturbing others.

Fog Searcher

Great local theater, reasonable prices for tix and snacks, great place to watch a flick

thomas ritchie

We saw Neither Wolf nor Dog. An excellent film in a great venue. Worth the trip to view a film.

Jonathan Fischer

Electic historical vibe with incredible customer service. Great date night to get a couple beers or glasses of wine to enjoy with your movie. Comfortable seating.

Bill Chenoweth

Classic theater experience with Mommy and Me showings on Fridays!! Love that they serve beer and have a great snack selection.

Xavier Lopez

One of my favorite theater's with both comfortable seats and some of the most delicious popcorn in the area!

Serena Tarica

One super congenial employee made up for the Debbie Downer taking tickets. Her entire being radiated powerful feelings disgust and hatred. An aura of negativity hung around her like the dirt cloud above Pigpen in Charlie Brown. It was obvious she would rather eat a bug than accept your ticket. But there was a nice guy too.

Kingofthe Northwestrnantifas

Worse seats EVER. I've never been in so much pain in my life. Otherwise, great little place to watch a movie.

Alleine Dragonfyre

This theater is great, the only place i come to see movies. They have good consession options, including a "kids box" and there are plenty food options nearby. Its not super crowded, has a great ol timey feel and makes for a wonderful date night.

K F

I love we have this movie theater in West Seattle. The staff is very friendly and they check you in quickly. It has a pretty good selection of the newest movies, good price of the ticket. You can buy alcoholic beverages. My favourite is the …

Hong Zhang

This theater now has 4 totally remodeled and refurbished theaters with new seats, screens, and sound. It's first-rate!

J Snider

Easy enough place to see a movie, no reserved seats needed, lines are short (usually), pizza next door, great popcorn, great kids meal options. Lots of memories here. For anyone driving here, parking can be tricky. Street parking only.

Lauren Hampton

Admiral theater is great. Crazy Rich Asians, however not a comedy just a remake of Cinderella and not a good one. Definitely not worth seeing

David

I want to question the reason relish and mayonnaise can't be offered with hot dogs. Please know the packets have HUGE shelf lives.

Damian Kirby

Remodeled, 1 st run movies. Don't have to go downtown. Mostly free parking. Can have up to 2 beers in theater.

Jeremy Dwyer

The theater was open! That alone gives it a 5 today! Thank you Admiral Theater! No overcrowding so it "felt" safe. The popcorn was good. The service was timely and good. They are always naturally understaffed which makes sense financially for a small theater so I don't mind that. In the past however I've found this an unfriendly theater from the staff to me but there was none of that tonight. My only "gripe" tonight was that the blistering led lighting in the theater would have been nice if they dimmed them upon previews and then off when the movie starts. They left the lights on for the first minute of the movie which was confusing at first. "Is this a preview or the movie?" Prior to today I'd have given them a 2 for unfriendly situations. Normally in this case I'd give them a 4 but hey! They're open! I'll give them a FIVE STAR!

Melanie Vartanian

Although it's great that they have 4 screens available and draft beer for sale the GORGEOUS frescoes are Much missed!

Gavin Lees

Popcorn is really good. I reccomend the caramel corn. It tastes fresh and is not overly sweet. Movie wise the picture and sound are great. The seats are comfy and the movie theatre staff are super nice and friendly.

Greg Key

Much improved after remodel, accepts MoviePass. Still a budget operation but we like to support local businesses.

Jason B

Cute spot with a friendly staff. Not ideal for big premiers, but great for catching films at the end of their runs in a comfortable friendly venue.

Jon Conley

The service at the Admiral Theater is friendly and excellent. The theaters themselves, since the upgrade they recently went through, are quite comfortable. They offer a good selection of movies, and are reasonably priced.

Duskkar

We love having the Admiral in our neighborhood.Run by really nice people who care about movies. Much better than the soulless multiplexes. You can get a glass of wine or beer on the weekend, good and reasonably priced popcorn any time. And if you drive to it, lots of parking within a few blocks.

Denise OToole

Classic twin theater, great place! I saw The Silence of the Lambs and Ghostbusters there!

Mike Monteleone

Been about 40 years since the last time I was here. Brought back fun memories. Sully was a fantastic movie and looking forward to the new and improved Admiral Theater.

Naomi Trepanier

After having visited almost every movie theater in the Seattle Metro area at least once over the past couple decades, I've ended up with a smallish collection of favorites that always make me happy. In case you hadn't already guessed, The Admiral is on the list. It doesn't require navigating a stress-inducing mall / mall parking lot. It's a little less expensive than your average multiplex theater. The staff is always cool. They serve beer for reasonable prices. The place is as clean as it needs to be. The matinee prices are good. The seats are pretty comfortable. The legroom is good. The projection and sound are actually quite a bit better than I typically see at small neighborhood theaters. They don't drown you in advertisements between the posted showtime and the movie the way that most theater chains do (AMC/Regal/Cinemark are getting pretty ridiculous in this regard). And finally, the place, and I recognize this is completely subjective, has a good vibe. It has a lot of cozy, well-worn character. So, with the litany over and done with, I'd say all of those factors combine to provide a much better than average theater-going experience. If you're not a big fan of navigating busy shopping centers and their parking lots to see movies at chain cineplexes that make you sit through a half hour of ads, I recommend: The Admiral, Cinerama, and Boeing IMAX (depending on how much you want to splurge) for seeing blockbusters. SIFF Uptown, Arklodge, Beacon Cinema, and The Grand Cinema (Tacoma) for smaller budget and independent movies that don't show in as many places.

Roark Doubt

Newly Renovated. This place has always been quirky and kitschy, which has always been it charm. It’s been recently renovated but was able to preserve the original charm. The theater shows first-run movies in a fun and unique venue.

Hannah Beek

This is a perfectly fine theatre with comfortable seats, good concessions and clean bathrooms, which also happens to show the latest films....and it's in our cozy neighborhood. I can walk to it! What's not to love? (I will not mention parking, oops! Hey, this is West Seattle....no easy parking anywhere.) Grab a bus, take a walk, ride your bike! Support our local, newly renovated, local movie house.

Darren Askay

New seats and renovations are great! And I can have a beer while watching! Awesome!

Tim Morley

This is a great neighborhood cinema... friendly staff and the updated theaters and seating is really good.

Brandenn Torkelson

One of the nicer, free campsites for the homeless.

Noah

Great theater! Nice helpful people working the counter. Theater not too crowded with viewers spreading out more than 6ft. I'm sure the theater wishes it was a bit more crowded. And their popcorn is the best I've ever had! ... washed down with a bottle of hard cider. Great night out! About time!

Mandy Martin

It was freezing cold inside the theater and never warmed up.

Marty Kiley

I was really looking forward to a privately owned, one of a kind old theater experience. Oh, it was old. And the bathrooms smelled like pee that has been sitting for years. The whole place was run down and in a state of disrepair. It was not nice, or quaint or comfortable. It actually kind of depressing. Also, a word of warning: If you have an junk in your trunk (a fat ass) or a wide back, the seats will be very uncomfortable.

Rachel

They split the old 2 massive theaters into 4 so now they show a lot more movies. New seats too. $11.50/ticket + tax. Good deal and near restaurants and bars if you're waiting for a movie time or date.

Kelly Strand Anderson

A wonderful little venue squarely in the focal point of West Seattle. It has wonderful design looking like a boat within despite the fact that its a bit run down. The staff is consistently overall quite the costs are relatively modest. It is continually showing the most up to date films and has agreeable seats.

Kaitlynn Hall

Great local theater. It's a treat to see crowds after the recent remodel and improvements.

Chuck Hermansen

This is an old neighborhood theater that is in desperate need of renovation. It's great to have a local movie house but paying for a Nordstrom product and getting Sears hurts.

Ruth Reiser

I love our town theater. Enjoy the quality showing and clean theater with your West Seattle neighbors. I hope this theater never leaves us.

Rebecca Drew

Love this place! Continually improving and still had that local small community theater look and feel.

83 Jude

One of the last independently-operated theaters in the region, and a great location. They serve Beer as well, which is a plus. Nothing special in terms of amenities inside, or seating, etc - but that is not why you're going here. It's for the Beer, the locality, and the convenient location. Support your local business, and think about not going to AMC next time around.

Mac Lowery

Great neighborhood theater! Don't have to leave West Seattle "Island" to enjoy first-run movies!

Julia Baker

It is particularly unconscionable to screen Wes Anderson films such as 'The French Dispatch' skewed onto the screen. Of all directors currently active, I believe this would bother Wes Anderson the most. To think that such a carefully crafted and absolutely precisely framed film would be subjected to such derisive projection! Of note: upon looking, I noticed the projection booth with projector is constructed so it is always incorrectly aligned with the screen, projecting an always distorted, never rectangular image, that is noticeably tilted. Additional insult to projection and the movie theater experience is the image is cropped, as revealed by some titles and graphics. A film like 'The French Dispatch' deserves better present as an art form than the properly screened? blockbuster thundering thru the walls next door.

Saggio Ricercatore

Exactly what you want from a local theater. All the big movies plus some other smaller stuff. 4 screens so you can almost always get in. Online ordering if you really want to make sure. Lots of great resturants around to eat before or after. They serve beer, wine and cider. Perfect. Thank you for keeping this gem! And the staff are just awesome. So nice and friendly - all of them!

VS Tech

Great theater and close to home! Nicely renovated as well

Brandon Fryman

I've been to many movie theaters in my life and this is my absolute favorite. The building itself dates all the way back to 1919, and they still have murals from one of the renovations in the 40s! In addition, the staff is lovely! The only time I go anywhere else is if they're not playing a film I want to see. My husband sometimes buys their popcorn on the way home because it's THAT good, and they have Manny's and Bodhizafa on tap ????

sophia e

I was so relieved when this Theater was remodeled! I grew up in Magnolia and stood and watched the Magnolia Theater being torn down for a bank. It was heartbreaking and I will always be sad it is lost. These landmarks are full of endless spirit and memories and fun with family and friends. Saving them is always a better choice. I live in West Seattle now and enjoy the Admiral very much!

Beth Taylor

Local, historic, serves alcohol, and features the latest flicks. What a great establishment!

BrIronman BTL

This is an amazing old-fashioned movie theater (I promise it is not black and white and does actual up-to-date movies such as Captain Marvel and Infinity War and Aquaman etc..) with super cozy seating, classic movie theater snacks, friendly and great counter service, and an overall amazing experience! This theater is a MUST GO for sure! It has no parking so you park in the sweet neighborhood right next to it, only a small walk to it. I will edit and add photos next time I go!

Lisa Reynolds

Great remodel of theaters (4). Wonderful seats. Everything is beautiful.

Kenneth Rash

I went here alot as a kid with my mom and friend.Moved to another country and lately have been reminiscing of childhood. So happy you're still in business..Many good vibes here.Miss s West Seattle and my youth there.Mucho Love from Lindy

Gregg Hersholt

Prefect for a neighborhood theater. Casual but the theaters are all updated now. Popcorn seasoning is free!

Igor Draskovic

This theater is a small, independent, first-run movie house that just finished a major renovation. It's great.

zach henson

Cool local theater that's had a well done update. You can bring beer to your seat as well! I'll be back!

Erik Denmark

Inexpensive. Tons of character in this old joint. The management and staff are wonderful. And the popcorn is absolutely the best in town!

Devki RajGuru

After the recent remodel, this is my favourite cinema to visit. Very reasonable ticket prices and booze while you watch! There's a lot of character to the place, too, but the unrestored mural in one of the screens really brings it down. I hope there are plans to restore this to its previous luster.

Zach S

One of my favorite theatres.

Taylore Caldwell

Either they have no idea how to number the seats or they really know how to number the seats. Pier two has two “7” seats next to each other. Luckiest couple of seats in the theatre. :) They have a decent beer selection and good popcorn too.

Matt Gregg

Wonderful older theater. One friendly gal selling the tickets and the snacks. The popcorn was tasty.

Pete Rowen

Friendly staff and nice, comfortable seats. Screen size was adequate and projection was well done. The sound system was good. The building is very interesting and has a lot of character (in a good way). A great choice for local movie goers!

Dorin Jannotta

Amazing, historic theater which shows new movies. The movie ticket prices are good but the concessions are very expensive (like almost all theaters), however they have a great selection of food and drink items. The theater chairs are new and comfortable.

Laura Newell

Simple, historic, cool neighborhood theater, renovated in all the ways that really matter - screens, sound, seats, restrooms. Go for a first-run movie, but come early to see the old murals. I've enjoyed the Admiral for over 20 years. Originally the Portola theater in a portion of the current space. Puget Sound Theater Organ Society (PSTOS) has a nice write-up. Love this place! (Park on the street, take the bus, or pay a little to park in a lot a block north.)

Steve H

Great location, the renovation was as good as can be expected... happy not to have to leave WS....however the service is so-so at best...I would describe the help staff as indifferent...I really hope it gets better.

David Turnipseed

Private viewing, with friendly staff and plenty of space!

Christina L

Great experience after the renovations! Seats are comfortable.Bathrooms always clean, not easy to find/say about most movie theatres. The staff is always friendly. Still maintains it's unique mom-pop character.

Briana Foote (bree)

Good size theater, be aware staff is not very familiar with the online tickets, but they accept them

Amy Spens

Poorly managed, run down, can't show movies on time - if ever, don't answer their phones, rude customer service, don't give your money back if they can't show the movie you want to watch, tells you they can't answer any questions until they open. First time and last time I'll ever go there. There is no excuse not coming into the theater for 30 minutes after a movie was supposed to start to let us know, respectfully that, it's not working and that they were working on it. We had to go out and talk to the staff. There is no excuse for not answering your phone during normal business hours. There is no excuse telling us to leave and come back in 7 minutes to answer a yes/no question.

Lindzey Tait

A beautiful small theater right in the center of West Seattle. It has beautiful architecture resembling a ship on the inside even though its a bit run down. The staff is always nice and the prices are comparatively cheap. It is always showing the newest movies and has comfortable seats.

steve Okimoto

The remodels are great! My only complaint is the past two movies I've seen there have glitched out in the last 10 minutes or so! ????

Richard LaRue

This historic theater has been well remodeled and has a nautical theme. The staff seems great. The 4 stars instead of 5 is because, toward the end of the movie I saw, either the digital playback or the file got screwy for about 30 seconds and the movie literally stuttered. I accept the vivisecting price of a theater experience nowadays, but a technical problem like that should be reliably prevented, in return.

Patrick Fay

A great little local theater. Great seats, good sound, clear picture. It's never crowded. I recommend it highly for a quality movie experience.

Andy B

They just renavated the theater and it's great. It's a good pice of West Seattle history and if you live in West Seattle is way more convenient than any of the other theaters in the greater Seattle area.

Deborah Breuler

Getting better. Workflow and execution remains a mom and pop type of location, but not going to work in long run with increased population of west Seattle. However I still love the fresh popcorn

Ella Wright

Not fancy but charming and solid. Great local theater!

Tobmind

This theatre has received a complete makeover. There are now four viewing screens, with all new seating. It looks and feels brand new inside. I no longer have to leave my neighborhood to enjoy a movie experience.

Blanca Nuño

Went to see Lion. This theater is a joke. It started with the ticket taker saying "stay through the credits they show the real family" thanks a lot for ruining the surprise. Half-way through the movie they had the lights on the ceiling turned on for 20 minutes. The sound system is horrible. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Henry Meyer

How did West Seattle get so lucky to have it's own theater, much less such a great one ! ? !

Patrick Sullivan

Most of the time they have good staff, nice seats. Only run into problems with kids getting into R rated movies. But I suppose that's just their job to a point.

Matt Brain

They show good movies and the popcorn is good, but it has a old vibe to it that I don't like.

Garrett Fuller

Great local theater that plays all the latest hits and they even serve BEER AND WINE now, with ID. Great place to watch the latest great movies without having to go to a crowded city theater. Staff are all local and ready and waiting to take care of you for your movie watching experience

Mike Entzminger

Perfect neighborhood theater. The popcorn is perfectly salted. Love the complimentary popcorn seasoning bar! Good selection of alcoholic beverages.

Sam D

Nice kitchy neighborhood theater that shows first run movies at reasonable prices and sells good popcorn. Beer is available but when we were there, all the staff was below age so they couldn't sell it - odd. Seats were comfortable, sound was good, but no dynamic seats.

Brad Chodos-Irvine

Cozy theater in the Admiral district. Low key but serves and has all the goodies and booze to offer.

Jay Lucero

Historical theater featuring comfortable seats, ample LEG ROOM and small crowds.

Liberty Bishop

The Admiral Theater is a nicely preserved, old-school movie theater. Before I continue with my review of the theater, I will say that my visit was during a freak cold and very snowy week in Seattle. Plus, the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus was making its way across the planet. I can't say what the theater and staff are like under 'normal' conditions. When we got to the theater (to see West Side Story), the entryway was covered with a thin layer of water that turned the marble (?) flooring into an ice rink. It was treacherous and particularly dangerous for our senior citizen family members. The staff was not particularly friendly. They weren't straight-up rude, but they could gave been more sympathetic/accomodating to the elderly family members who were desperately trying to navigate the terrain and present their proofs of vaccination without being too much of a log-jam for the other patrons. Once in the theater where our movie was showing, the door was kept open...and the theater was FREEZING (never took off my coat or gloves). It was cold enough to impact the viewing experience of the movie...very negatively. Lastly, the sound of the movie in the neighboring theater (Spider-Man, I believe) was so loud, at times, that we couldn't easily hear the movie in out theater. All-in-all, 3 out of 5 stars.

Tom Hammack

Love it! Old fashioned theater, new seats are comfortable, good movie choices

Sorayah Surkatty

I love this little local theater. Especially since the expansion. More movies more options. And it feels like I'm still supporting the local scene

Matthew Reeves

For a local theater it’s great. Comfortable new seats, very good popcorn and not far from home. Good rotating movies , mostly latest out.

Haleh Nekoorad Long

Love this theater. I am glad they were able to get the renovations and improve the quality of the theater.

Andrei MO

It's an alright old theatre serving it's purpose in the community. The door to our theatre kept getting stuck open and could hear chatter in the lobby. You could also hear chatter through the doors even when they were closed.

Rod Doe

My favorite theatre!!! I loved the historic look before the remodle, and now to have all that and 4 comfy theatres! Everything is top shelf.

Greg Asmus

Super cute theatre. Kitchy & funky. Great snack prices with free popcorn refills & $1 drink refills! Really nice staff. Clean & comfortable.

guy golliver

I'm happy to have 1st run movies here in West Seattle. The new seats are comfortable and the staff is friendly. I like to support our local businesses when I can.

Stephen Bamford

Nautical theme, multiple screens. The chairs are new and comfy. Beer and wine available.

Tim K

We went for the Mommy Matinee on a Friday morning and had an amazing time! They were very kind and accommodating, willing to increase or decrease volume, if the parents wished. Room for carseats and strollers in the theater, and a changing table in the restroom. The chairs also rock, which made it a great place to soothe babies and watch a movie with other parents! We had a great time.

Jericho Dalida

Great theater! Movies are relatively inexpensive, the chairs are comfy, they serve beer, and the bathrooms were spotless.

Sarah McCaghren

Great classic movie theater. Good films. Excellent snacks. But having a constant flow of late comers up to 20 minutes in was very disruptive. Fix this and it would be five stars.

Michael Mann

We always bring cushions and highly recommend it when seeing a film at the Admiral. I've been to this Theater many times over the past 30 years. It's quirky and not always well maintained. Bathrooms need a severe upgrade. Almost too many seats for only 2 films. Be nice if they figured a way to spit space and add two additional screens. The prices are fine...actually below market. I understand they are in the process of upgrading the place. I hope this works. The population growth and location in West Seattle certainly deserves an improved venue. I'm crossing my fingers they'd take a page from Sundance Theaters which have done multiple upgrades of older theaters around the country. They do an excellent job of upgrading, adding new seating, restaurants & wine bars.

Pete O

The Bay in Ballard and the Admiral are my favorite theaters in Seattle. Excellent popcorn and good theater beer, wines. It has comfortable seats too.

Caleb Wetherell

It is a small theater. I like that. There were only 4 other people, besides me and my daughter, so it was quiet. Bathroom was clean.

John

One of my favorite theaters. It’s not a modern cinema, it is an old movie theatre, which gives it a great aesthetic. Relatively small to other theatres, but that’s partly why I like it.

Rebecca Black

Nice accomodations for viewing. Restroom has no bars for handicapped. Thought it was law. Many seniors at movie and bar is needed.

Anthony Micheli

Seats are a little high even for me and Im 5foot 11. Everything else is great.

Ozanna Kairaiuak

It's a classic theater. I like the character! It's an experience all in it's own. They have amazing popcorn and the popcorn toppings are interesting if you like that sort of thing. SO... They have wine. The glasses are small so don't be surprised. It's not the IMAX dome. The newer seats we sat in aren't that comfortable for a tall person, and I have heard the action movie sounds through the walls from the theater over when I'm watching the quiet drama, BUT... they have a lot of movies I like and it's really close to home. 4 Solid stars for nostalgia and convenience. I go here often. Support your local theater!

Thomas Del Rio

The Admiral Theater in West Seattle is a classic that has been beautifully refurbished with state-of-the art screens, sound system and restored murals! Popcorn is crispy and delish -- what is the secret? See you at the movies in our neighborhood.

Jamey Morrison

Admiral is always my first choice of theaters, I've been going there since the early 1980's. Love he "Old Theatre" feel and it's nice to support a local landmark. My grandfather owned the Broadway theater on Capitol Hill back when it was a theater, the Admiral gives me a feelings going home. I'm so glad they were able to keep it open as I recall a couple if rough patches where we almost lost it. I'll be going again on Saturday!

Audi Ritz

As a native West Seattlite, this theater is much better than it used to be. Typical prices for movies and concessions but with improved seats and sound (they were terrible before the remodel) as well as supporting 3D movies. They went from two screens to four during the remodel, which means smaller screens and less seats per theater, but it was necessary to keep this historic West Seattle landmark running. They are also keeping as much as the old-timey vibe and architecture as they can which is the biggest appeal to the Admiral Twin, or is it The Admiral Quad now?

Ian Davis

Good West Seattle neighborhood theatre showing first run movies. Been going there my whole life.

Dara Elish

One of my favorite movie theaters in town! I love the comfy seats, they have beer and snacks in the lobby, and they often show films that other are not or have vintage films replaying. Street parking only, but it's easy to find.

John Llewellyn

Excellent theater that's family run. Popcorn is the best and the renovations are looking great. The new seats are super comfortable.

J G

I had been coming here since the. 1960s last time was in the 80s it's newly remodeled showing first run pictures It has a nice ambience very clean a great local theater fits well into the Admiral neighborhood,in West seattle

Quinn Williams

Super fun that we have a theater in downtown west seattle. Vintage feel. Friendly staff, great selection of movies. I like to support local & thankful I can.

Nick Hayes

I can forgive the fact that this beautiful old building is a little rundown, the seats aren't that comfortable and the screen and audio are not the most high tech and modern but I can't forgive filth. Looking closer at the details, you can see that whoever runs this place doesn't care enough to do something as simple as keeping it clean and putting away clutter. If I were the owner of this magnificent, historic structure, I would be there personally making sure every little detail was just right. It doesn't have to be expensive renovations. Something as simple as making sure the place is spotless can make a huge difference. I hope they read this and get a clue.

1 s

Wonderful renovation! And now showing first run films. Hey, the popcorn is even ????

Petko Dimov

Very convenient. Not crowded. Great first run movie!

ande thollander

I saw "The spy who dumped me" tonight. It was so funny. The theater was clean, and the staff was friendly. I didn't have problem with parking. Overall, great experience. I would definitely recommend and come again?

Joanne Halbert

Good movies, good art on the walls and some of the best popcorn in the city--especially as so many movie houses have moved from traditional popcorn to bizarre popcorn confections--it is nice to have a place where you can get just good, old-fashioned popcorn.

Rachel Lee

The popcorn is amazing! They are the big mushroom ones. Sometimes we go there just to buy popcorn :)

Linda Kessler

This is a great, fun theater walking distance from anyone near the Alaska or Admiral Junction in West Seattle. The traditional feel and low-cost make it a really fun place for one of those last-minute "Hey, let's go see a movie" nights.

Ben Doty

Inexpensive neighborhood theatre. Nice to be able to walk over and no hassle with online or reservations. Just like the good old days

Michael A.

This great neighborhood theater got a major overhaul recently. It now has 4 screens, comfy seats, and an overall improved experience without losing it's historic charm.

Stan Hargus

Cute, historical feel. Enjoy going their when I am in West Seattle.

Marcus Woodard

This is an awesome little theater perfectly situated in our own neighborhood. It jas been closed since the COVID outbreak and we miss it dearly. Always a great place to bring the family, have a couple a beers, watch a movie, and walk the strip. I hope it will safely open up soon.

tara vandenberg

We loved our first visit to this historic theater!

MidniteJae

Beer, wine & cider add to the show! The seats face the opposite way from when I was a kid but it's wonderful.

Alanah Baron

The screen is fine, the seats are okay, everything else is pretty dated.

Cynthia Clouser

Been going there since childhood when it was $2. It's been needing a remodel bad but I understand it's underway. Great feel, small business. You may have to walk around the block for parking.

christian buhagiar

Newly renovated and still the same great place. Staff is quick and not looking for conversation. Seating is comfy, but you can hear the other movies through the walls. Which, in all honesty, just adds to the experience. Popcorn is great and they have beer too!

Lauren C

Always love spending time at the movies with my family and couldn't ask for a better venue than the Admiral.

Kirk Maringer

I love that the Admiral provides a theater to the northern part of West Seattle, but am looking forward to the remodel that I know is in the works as they could use it. I definitely walk to this theater when it's playing movies I'm interested in, though, it's low key and great for locals.

Katherine Jones

Nice little old school theater here in our community. It's great to have a different type of atmosphere when coming to the movies. You get this old retro feeling coming here, like everything been frozen in time.

AMB GARAGE DOORS

Seating sucks and projector is loud. Prices are good and crowds are low.

Christopher Williams

I'm glad there is a movie theater in West Seattle, but last time we bought our tickets, the staff-person was a major grumper. Overall, it's a nice theater, but usually the movies they have are not my cuppa.

Marlene Rankin

Got to see a great movie here tonight and loved that they had alcohol as well as the popcorn shakers. Some would say it's an outdated theater but honestly we appreciates every detail about it. I will say you should not be charging the same price for a small soda here as the same price at the main stream theaters when theirs are 44 oz and yours is 16oz. Other than that it's fantastic and we will be back.

Paul Loeb

I love the Admiral. Movies are movies, but the theater has character. Plus, on Friday and Saturday, you can have a beer or glass of wine with your flick. They have all the usual popcorn and candy, plus they do community shows and interesting things. The cost of a film is not ticket, it is the time and effort to go see the film. So why not go see a film somewhere nice, instead of a mass-produced box?

Alexia Pagliarini

Great small theater that serves beer, wine, and cider along with all the standard movie snacks. The staff was friendly and seats were rockers with a slight recline. Probably not the place I would go for epic action movies but everything else it will be my go to.

CHRISTINE A.

It's the admiral theatre, only now it has first run movies. It's not the same as the good old days where you could see movies dirt cheap, but I like the idea of having a local theatre that I can go to see new movies instead of going to Southcenter or downtown.

Tim Thompson

Great little theater but some seats could be replaced.

Diane Toluvia

Comfortable and cute. A nice casual place to enjoy a movie - unfortunately, our film wasn't quite as loud as another one playing at the time and you could hear the bass leaking in. A bit distracting.

Dustin Klingler

Local theater with tons of character. Just give yourself plenty of time if it's busy. Staff could be a little more organized. Still they play recent movies and have comfy seats!

Jesse Carlson

The theater is older, really cold, and not well insulated from outside noise, but I go here almost every week because it's so convenient, and they have lots of movies and showtimes.

Amy Loo

Went with friends on Saturday, 25 March. Staff was incredibly friendly and the lobby and restrooms after renovations look wonderful. Very comfy seating and great sound. I hope they restore the mural in Pier 3. Will definitely return!

Vanessia Spencer

I go here to see a new movie and the new theater seats are plush and the food is great too

Brian Jones

Older theatre, but comfortable seats, quality viewing and fairly respectful crowd.

Mark Olsoe

Imagine watching a movie with quiet and poignant moments overridden by blasts from the viewing theater next door. This quaint theater really could use some sound proofing upgrades.

Eric Heit

Parking is awful. If your going to a movie add an additional 15 mins because you have to park far away and walk.

J Sea

I remember going here since I was a kid with my great aunt. Really happy they FINALLY got the funding to upgrade the seats to be more comfortable.

Kamal605 Madbar

Ok I'm not going to full on bash on this place, but in this instance, they asked us for vaccination cards, and my friend who went and bought tickets through fandango explicitly checked to see if they needed them on the webpage but there must have been a missing company update on the website forum. I cannot get vaccinated for religious reasons, I am devout in my faith and the communal literature states we must not take it. Now, my friends did not mention this, but one friend who went in recently had covid but must pay 200$ for the vaccine through his workplace insurance as they are a South American company so it is hard on minimal wage for him to get vaccinated, and the other is vaccinated. I'm not complaining about this, it is a reasonable business practice in this country. Whether they mentioned this dilemma is also beside the point but the younger woman who worked there was apparently quite snarky and beligerent to my friends and the overall interaction was not conducive for a happy customer experience. I would like to return once the pandemic is over as the prices were reasonable for a non-corporate business but I do request the lady who my friends talked to be conversed with to better assist in mild inconveniences like this one and not say "It absolutely says you need a vax card, but okay". We are giving this a 3 star review as we weren't able to assess the movie experience but we will consider a more detailed review once we actually see a movie at this location.

Merrilee Coverdale

I love the nautical theme!!!! The staff are friendly too. The only negative is how difficult parking can be.

Ian Kear

Charming old theater. Saw first run movie and it wasn't that crowded. The concessions, including beer, were great and very reasonably priced.

Jason Brown

What a great theater! Friendly staff, good popcorn and treats, and very clean and well kept, comfortable, theater.

jn vo

Once their remodel is done this place will be great. As it is nice screen, meh service and crappy seats. But if they get their stuff together should be awesome.

Lisa Loutzenhiser

The theater is nice and cozy. Seats are comfortable. Snacks are good and affordable. It's cute and retro. Definitely coming back.

Grant Kulberg

Great place for a watching movies , very clean ,great snackes too

First Last

Best movie popcorn I’ve ever had! Great local treasure.

Samantha Davis

I loved everyone that worked there, the theater is wonderful! If it was closer to me, I'd be there every week!

kaleokalani19

This theater is just ok. The renovation doesn’t look finished and the layout of the theaters and the line in to get tickets and consessions is weird. Also the sound seems off. That said the popcorn is good and the theater is fine... just don’t expect the cinerama or anything amazing.
