sound was like a huge radio shack speaker seats old theater is run down

What can i say, it's a movie theatre with a concession, 3 screens and cash only. No complaints.

Stephanie McCamley

Mikey McBryan

Only Movie Theatre in town, so it's important to support it. Great Popcorn!

Jason Simpson

needs better seats, but the picture and sound are great

Edward stark

Ground floor is level and seats are really small, it hurt my soul and feelings. I never been so hurt. Also 13$ tickets

Spencer Kaufman

It's the only theatre here, don't be expecting silver city or a VIP theatre or anything of the sort. The seating is on an incline but its a very shallow grade so tall people will block your veiw.

Travis Feldmann

Mike Cooper

This is the ONLY Movie Theatre in Yellowknife AND they act like it.

Theatre is good and all, but staff could definitely use an attitude upgrade.

Randy Straker

Needs to update chairs

Bob Horton

For Yellowknife, this is the one and only choice for a movie theater. That said, it has a pretty reasonable selection even though the movies only stay for one or two weeks. They have three screens and a pretty reasonable concession stand. Tuesday night is cheap movie night similar to almost everywhere else.

John Doyle

They really need to clean the place up. Cash only to pay???? Really? In 2019?

Omar Homosh

Roland Catholique

I just got back from watching "Tenet". The sound and picture was amazing. The 2 hours and 30mins was exceptional plus the popcorn was an added bonus.

its decent considering we live in a remote city compared to most other cities in Canada. Be grateful we at least have one.

Matthew West

Small. Very very small. Sound from other movies comes through clear as day.

I would really appreciate it if they cleaned the theaters in between showings. Walking into a theater full of garbage and popcorn everywhere is pretty bad. I know you are the only gig in town but come on guys, at least try a little.

Very basic movie theater, nothing fancy. The men's bathroom has 2 toilets, one stall and One urinal after every screening it's packed for 10 minutes with guys waiting to use the washroom (I'm assuming the same for womens) 3 screens all with extremely uncomfortable seats, depending on when you go it can be clean or your feet get stuck to the sticky dirty floor. Prices are nice (I never understood the overpriced issues) the staff has always been nice and quick when trained. The manager however is god-awful and shouldn't deal with customers. I see on small occasions he's nice but every time other time he's shouting and calling customers idiots. With how much people hate this place i'm shocked no one has opened a new one or tried to anyways, but for now it's the Only place in the territory I Believe to watch movies.

Younes .O

Dirty, chairs uncomfortable, food sucks. Although the image and sound are acceptable. I understand it's the only theater in town but it's not an excuse to not make renovations. better foods choices and arcade machines means making more $$. The staff is very friendly and fast.

Violet Fodor

Great combo deal.

(Translated) After checking the movie time on the website, go about 20 minutes before the start. Do not open the door in advance, but open the door 20 to 30 minutes before the movie starts. Line up at the door and wait and enter the movie theater when the door opens. You just need to buy a seat of your choice) and popcorn and enter the theater. Every Tuesday it's a discount day of $7, and it's usually $13. The chairs sometimes creak, so choose your seat well, and when the movie is released, the movie will come down in a week or two. It's a theater still cash only after 15 yrs no real sound isolation interior very dated but again only theater in town so gota live with what ya get.

daryl bergen

Greasy seats and slimey floors, but I guess that's part of the charm. 2 screens and a popcorn machine. Good central location that you can easily walk to from all the main hotels. Bottom line is that its your only choice in NWT to see a new movie while in theater unless you want to drive to another province...

Yellowknife is fortunate to have a cinima. Usually clean and smells like popcorn.

We were there for Antman and the Wasp. The theater itself is outdated and is cash only. The price for the tickets was $7.00, Nice! Still a nice nostalgic atmosphere. The seats were comfortable, the floor was clean and the screen is slightly raised making easier for the grandchildren to see above the people in front of them. It was very nice that the ones in front cared enough to check with the children, ensuring they can see the screen. BRAVO! I enjoyed the show.

Fast service from the workers. Keep up the good work guys.????

Jenn Baerg Steyn

After reading the reviews on here I thought I would be walking into an overpriced dump. That is not the case. First, for the argument of it being overpriced, the tickets are cheaper than Vancouver prices, so I don't know where the rest of the reviewers have been going, the price of $14 dollars was not expensive. Second, yes it's not the grand massive theatre complexes associated with major cities, but the last time I checked Yellowknife wasn't boasting the kind of population that would warrant a state of the art multiplex. In the end, the theatre was clean, decently staffed and all in all well within expectations for being a small older theatre.

Jeff Netzke

Tiny screens, cash only and the theaters are a complete mess with the garbage from the previous show still everywhere.

Reece Larson

Sean Legaree

Small, uncomfortable old chairs, often misses movies. Better than nothing, I guess.

Went again today after a long time and some things never changed, the manager/owner is still very rude. He is in such a sour mood like always, yelling and intimidating patrons. Because he owns the only movie theatre in Yellowknife, he feels he can act however he wants to. The only saving grace are the kids at the concession, very friendly and fast. PS. The floor is still very sticky.

Screen size and sound system is subpar. Maybe I was spoiled by not being from YK originally but I set up a home theater myself in my living room with a nice system and 120" projector screen after watching Jurassic World here. Maybe it's the rent downtown which is hiking the ticket prices up, but I'm much happier being able to sit at home and invite a group of people over for a more comfortable and all around superior experience.

Basic movie theatre. Seats are uncomfortable. Screen quality is not the best. Prices haven't gone up in a while, which is good considering the amenities. Movie selection is hit or miss.

The only cinema in Yellowknife. The kids working there do a decent job. The popcorn is good, the nachos are horrible. The theatres may be outdated, but customers can't really complain: there are just not enough people around to warrant investing in a renovation.

Overpriced and poor quality, not to mention it's cash only and their atm is one of the most expensive in town. Too bad it's the only theater in town...

Only Theater there is in Yellowknife. Deal with it! I think that's their motto actually. Never bring in the good movies just the same recycled garbage comedies and Sequels. Would be nice if somebody with vision could start managing the place. The Theater itself is average at best, still have old school seats so some one sits directly in front of you, the angle of the floor is very low so again you get blocked by the 6'8' guy who walks in at the last minute.

Not a great selection of movies, vastly inflated tickets, and hasn't bothered to update to a debit machine yet. It knows it's the only theatre in town and it doesn't need to improve to change its sales.

Ding Xie (Lucas)

Just have 3 screens in thid theatre, the seat it's a little dirty. But in another hand it's the only one cinema in Yellowknife. So we don't have choice.

It's like a 1980s budget movie theatre. Better than no theatre at all though.

This 3 picture house punches well above its weight for a small town theatre! They really do try to provide something for everyone. If you don't like what they're playing, go ahead and rent one of the theatres for a private function.

Worth $7 on Tuesdays. Not worth $13 on other days. The seats need repair (check if they are wobbly or lopsided before you sit down). Screens are small, but clear. Sound is good for such a small theatre.

Everything is ok but the carpets are gross and need to be replaced. And what's with the hand dryer in the washroom? I am completely bald and it wouldn't even blow enough air to dry my hair. Please replace it or at the very least, install a paper towel dispenser. Edit: 2 years later and there is still no paper towel in the washroom and the hand drier is still underperforming...

Prices are standard movie prices, overpriced but you endure it for the movie. The washrooms are horribly unclean and the same stains can be there for months, years even, just remember you endure it for the movie. The staff are friendly, the manager can be a bit mean to the staff sometimes but I guess running the only movie theater in town is stressful. The manager although sometimes mean is capable of keeping a business afloat in Yellowknife's downtown area, just wish he would be nicer to the staff and some customers. The theater's movie screens are dated but it would cost a fortune to revamp or build a new theater. So, I guess I will give it 3-stars because it is the only movie theater in the NWT with a good selection of movies rotated in and out with sub-par service.

Cramped, mediocre image and sound, and only gets the most mainstream films. You can hear the other movies through the walls as you're watching yours. The only reason anyone bothers is because it's the only theater in town. So basically, don't bother going to the theater in Yellowknife. Can someone see about getting a Silver City up here?

Best priced movie theater I've ever been to. Also the staff and managers are great!

Friesen Garett

I get that this is a local theater and not a chain franchise but being that the capital theater has a monopoly in yk when it comes to business its quite awful. First off ticket prices are far too expensive considering the type of experience you are getting. All three of the theaters are small, the screens are never cleaned, the seating is not elevated per row so you end up having to look around the person in front of you, and the audio, my god the audio quality. One of the main reasons you go to the theater is to get the REAL experience. Im pretty sure that several separate speakers are either blown or heavily distorted in each theater. The overall quality of the audio is lackluster, very hollow and tinny sounding, and there is no subwoofer presence whatsoever. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't any subs at all. The food is alright but way overpriced. And with my experience the manager has been not the most pleasant to deal with. In all honesty I try to avoid the theater and just buy the movies when they come out, ends up being cheaper anyways and then you get to keep the movie. At least if you have a somewhat adequate audio setup at home it will sound better. The only thing the theater has going for it is the workers that they get working concession, they have always been polite.

Theater sucks. Carpets dirty. Bathrooms usually dirty with no way to dry your hands except your pants or shirt. The seats literally have me squirming in about 15 minutes. They are just cramped and hard. The incline is not enough , so anyone that is taller than you in the 2 rows ahead will block your view. Ticket prices aren't actually too out of line as they make little on admission but make the profits on the other things, like vending, food, etc. BUT, this is where they are greasy. They used to allow debit at the ticket booth, but then stopped. Not to streamline service mind you, but because they realized most people don't carry cash, therefore when they find out there is no debit service, have to turn around and leave to get money.............oh wait!!! there is an ATM right there. OOPS, too bad they charge $4 to take any money out. SURPRISED NO ONE ELSE NOTICED THIS GREASY LITTLE CHANGE. TAKE CASH WITH YOU. DON'T FALL FOR IT. IF YOU FORGET, GO DOWNSTAIRS TO THE ROYAL BANK. That will be a bit cheaper to take out money. Not a totally bad opinion of the place, as the kids that work there are usually VERY GOOD, FAST, AND POLITE. I can't actually recall having a bad personal exchange with anyone there........ever. I've been going to this theater for 20 years. So, to conclude it is a dump but the staff are great.

Kevin Niptanatiak

Great movie, Star Wars. Awesome sounds and clear picture. Ok popcorn and overpriced... it's a theater. Stick to a bottle of water on your next trip and bring cash to avoid the 3 dollar fee of using the onsite ATM.

Old school theater....cash only but adds to the experience! The popcorn is pretty good..and on Tuesdays it is cheap night!! I am use to Ontario theaters and you have to take out a small loan to have a night out there! So a very nice change! Only 3 choices but they are always decent movies!

Tim Zoe

Get a debit machines for ticket booth (Mostly cash only) ATM inside. Terrible seats, no paper towels for restrooms (bad hand dryers), and overpriced vending machines

rian

Its decent. I am always disgusted because of the bathrooms and carpet. Chairs are very uncomfortabl, over priced, but its 2018 I think we all know that everything cost money. The food is fine, the thing that bothers me is that its cash only, and the ATM is offenly crowded, which makes me late for the movie. Overall, since this is the only theatre in town, I really like the screen, lighting, and sound.

Old, poorly maintained theater with little to offer except that it's the only theater in Yellowknife. Clearly the owners know this or they would try to make it nicer. Choice of movies is usually poor, focusing more on kids movies rather than having a mix. The prices are reasonable for tickets and snacks comparably to south, but the dingy, dirty atmosphere makes it a disappointment.
