A Christmas Carol play was excellent. Loved the caroling during and after the play. Got me into the Christmas spirit .
Nice, small theatre. Not very handicap accessible. Headphone system wasn't working on the day I attended.
Another Fantastic show at the royal George theater in Niagara-on-the-lake. We saw "Rope" the play the performance the actors it was perfect. A great night out and worth the drive.
Very antique and well preserved it is much smaller than most theatres but is still very enjoyable to be in, and hosts quite interesting plays
We were really delighted with their production of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", not just for the play itself, but the opportunity for us, the audience, to go up on stage at the end to have photos taken with the actors.
It's a very small theater however the entertainment is done well. If there is something playing here you want to see book it quickly with the limited space ut will sell out quickly
Had a great time seeing A Christmas Carol. . And a great privilege to be able to go on stage and have photos taken with the cast members...Can't wait to be back
A Christmas Carol was awesome...Great play with fantastic cast!!!????????
This is one of the best theatres I've ever been too! Although it's small in size it is beautifully made and the seats are very comfortable! My boyfriend and I saw A Christmas Carol here and the production was stunning. The way they created the ghosts and re-created the story was beyond what I could imagine! A wonderful theatre with very talented performers!
Theatre lobby and the theatre itself is a lot smaller than the main theater but the room in the basement is spacious for intermission. Watched the Christmas Carol. Show was great. Actors and effects were great.
Great venue, but the rows are really tight after the remodel. I can't imagine the seating being comfortable for tall people.
We saw the Madness of George III. Love the redecorated lower level. Lovely old theatre only issue is tight rows and difficult access for challenged.
Great adaptation of A Christmas Carol and we got to sing carols as well.
watched engaged, its always an amazing experience at the shaw film festival.
Amazing production!
Enjoyed this Theatre as part of the Shaw Festival . Top Notch
Lovely little Shaw Theater in the heart of NOTL...
Intimate theatre... we saw 'madness pf king george' and it was amazing... can't think of enough superlatives. we actually had on-stage seats and loved the interaction with the stellar cast
The Royal George is greatly improved, but still a rather stodgy, conventional proscenium arch theater.
Great intimate theater experience!
We've been to two shows here. The theatre has no bad seats. The quality of the shows has been very high.
Saw the play Rope good performance small theatre cozy good view of the stage from our balcony seats.
Nice theatre, well maintained. All seats are good seats . Hold about 230 people. I disliked the play but that is not the fault of the theatre. Food and drinks are a bit expensive. Three dollars for a 20 cent water. No one forcing anyone to buy though. Great location, in the centre of town.
Beautiful theatre, small and intimate. Can't wait to see another play there.
Very nice small intment theater.
Intimate setting. Sound carries well. Seating reasonable but difficult when seated between oversized patrons, a little uncomfortable.
The Shaw Festival's performance of Stage Kiss was funny and touching. A very good show. Previously we saw their production of Our Town which was wonderful. This is a can't miss if you're visiting Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Wonderful shows and talented cast. I love attending shows at least once a year. Beautiful venue and property too.
Small theatre, very pretty. Limited snacks, unfriendly staff.
Right from front door it is a great experience! Lovely ladies indicating washrooms, coat hanging room...and scanning our tickets right there. The plays are never disappointing, the effects are amazing. Yes ,great experience!
We saw A Christmas Carol and really liked the cozy atmosphere. The theatre is small and nice. There is a lobby downstairs with a bar. The show was really well done and they did a good job engaging the audience as well. We had free parking on the street as well as it was December.
t's a small venue but quite beautiful. And because of its size there's not a bad seat in the house ????
An aging theatre that is cramped and lacking amenities. An accessibility nightmare for anyone depending on a cane or walker; and impossible for a wheelchair. Seats are all up stairs; restrooms and refreshments all downstairs; no elevators. No dedicated parking so arrive early to find street parking in the neighborhood. Productions are generally good, but definitely hit and miss.
Saw a wonderful play by George Bernard Shaw - Getting Married.
Shaw has great theatre here. Comfortable seats. Enough leg room. Older building so lineups for wimens wadhroom. Quaint bar area downstairs. Inviting staff.
We went to see "A Christmas Carol" and it was amazing. This was are first time to this theatre and the crew and cast did an amazing job.
Great place to see shows and live music. Cozy. Wonderful acoustics.
What an incredible place. Saw "A Christmas Carol ", not enough stars for this quality experience.
Clean comfortable and right size for live theatre .. you can hear the actors without amplification.
This particular time I have seen "A Christmas Carol". It was delightful and a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit. Michael Therriault as Scrooge is amazing. I am a big fan. I have been at Royal George many times before, and I will continue to go for the years ahead. I am a supporter, and admirer, of the Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Amazing Cyrano de Bergerac performance, during the Shaw Festival ‘19! The theater is well maintained and the seats very comfortable!
Nice and small theater no bad seat. Saw A Christmas Carol there. Only issue for people with mobility issues would be the stairs.
Just came from a performance of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol at this theater. It was every bit as good as anything you would see on Broadway in New York! A marvelous older theater, it has all the ambience that you would expect, including a spiral staircase. The performance was second to none!
I went to the see The Christmas Carol there and it was really good. The Covid protocols were that we had to wear masks during the whole performance and we could not eat or drink anything. Some of the actors also wore a mask so it was a little muffled when they would talk.
One of the three main theatres in Niagara on the Lake. Its interesting to be able to go out into the main street of the town at intermission. Usually have excellent plays.
We saw Engaged last night...very negative vê place, nice town and it's all Canadian
The Royal George is one of three Shaw Festival theatres. This is a modest-sized theatre. There are no bad seats. Shaw Theatre productions are usually magnificent. Downstairs is a bar, where you can get wine, coffee, tea, and ice cream during intermission.
The Royal George is a very beautiful. It is that story book theatre. Red push seats, red carpet, gilt on the coat of arms above the stage. It small - even sitting in the back of the balcony you can see well. In fact the front row can be a little exciting - I had more than one show run a chasing across it. The chairs are a little small by modern standards and you do have to be able to go downstairs if you wish to use the washroom or get something from the bar. Overall it's a wonderful theater to enjoy an afternoon or evening performance in.
Felt like a classic, well kept theatre. Nice and cool, clean, comfy seats, and great service.
They put on an amazing show. Small theater with tonnes of character. I had a great time and will certainly go back for other shows they put on.
Theatre was a bit cold for my comfort however the show, A Christmas Carol, was excellent.
Fabulous live theatre!
Do not get seats in the front two rows, too close to the stage. Seats are comfortable enough to get you through 3 hours
Nice threater Shaw Festival. Buy your tickets ahead of time.
Excellent, historic venue to see plays from The Shaw.
First time for my wife and I visiting the Royal George Theater. Beautiful old building in beautiful downtown Niagara on the Lake. We saw the live adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The theater is small but very quaint. Staff very friendly. We had dinner at one of the many locations in Niagara on the Lake and then to the theater. A very nice evening out. We will go back.
The Royal George is a beautiful Edwardian theatre, formerly a vaudeville house. I've seen shows from the last row of the balcony and you still don't feel too far away from the action. The basement/bar area has recently had a remodel to be a bit brighter, and there is a rumour the seating in the theatre will be upgraded again to even comfier seats this winter.
Saw a play here has a part of the Shaw Festival. Nice cozy environment. We sat close so felt a part of the action.
We love small theatre, the seats are very spacious and comfy. This was our second play and we loved them both, the cast is awesome and they suck you right into the story. Thank you and see you again soon!
The vintage theater house was stunning, the employees welcoming and the performance outstanding!
Lovely nugget of historical architecture and very intimate. Could almost summon up the 1800s while I was there!
Small and historic theatre. It's not a big stage but great to see smaller shoes. Good atmosphere and right on the high street.
Small, intimate venue.
Great experience! COVID protocols were excellent and the show was wonderful.
Nice theatre, but seats allow no room for tall person to put legs
I took my teenage granddaughter to see A Christmas Carol and we loved it. Great cast, beautiful singing and accompanied music, (loved the bells!), innovative set design and the 3 ghosts were very well done. The play caught the sadness, greed and joy of Dickens's work. Thank you for a special afternoon.
Lovely theatre! I've been to Niagara-on-the-Lake many times to see shows and this was the first time at the Royal George.
Saw Charlie's Aunt last night. Excellent play as usual with all the players being really above average imo. Parked right across the street from the Royal George. Well spent evening every time. Theater is in great shape.
Nice small theatre
Saw "A Christmas Carol" with my family. Very well put on play with a great cast, and fantastic puppetry. Very entertaining for all ages.
Small, quaint theatre where every seat is fantastic. Excellent productions.
We were there to see Cyrano. Wonderful show and a great theatre.
Incredibly friendly staff, great performance, and a wonderful theater. Would HIGHLY recommend.
Great traditional theatre. Need more toilets.
Christmas Carol was a great play. Even got some pictures with actors up on stage. What a production!!
Nestled in the centre of the lovely town of Niagara on the Lake this theatre offers a nostalgic theatre experience. Not as new and shiny as Festival Theatre but is nice and cozy. Stage Kiss was the show and the cast was phenomenal.
Loved seeing A Christmas Carol here. Not suitable for handicapped people. Stairs, no elevator.
Wonderful historic theater venue for the Shaw Festival. Small and intimate, all seats are good ones. Of course, the plays presented are always very well done. We saw Getting Married - a great Shaw comedy!
Great venue and Stage Kiss was funny and uplifting. Great cast!
Excellent Customer Service
A wonderful theatre. The cast of A Christmas Carol were terrific.
Excellent sight lines and acoustics. There is an elevator from street level to the main seating level, but there are some issues with accessibility for people who cannot take stairs.
Love this inimate theater. You can see and hear well from every seat. Just note that lounge and restrooms are in basement down a curved staircase.
What a wonderful theater!!! It's a small theater which makes it a more intimate setting for watching plays. The staff are so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They made sure that everyone was comfortable and happy. I would go back in a heartbeat.
A return to the roots of theater. Just a splendid venue that is intimate.
Beautiful little gem of a theatre
Great being back at the Shaw! Covid protocols were really well done. Welcoming staff and an enjoyable time.
One of three venues for the Shaw Festival in NOTL. Downtown amidst many restaurants and shops. Has a comfortable bar downstairs for intermission.
It was a beautiful and cozy theater. The play we saw was moving. My daughter and I loved it!
Lovely refurbished theater. Comfy seats. Air conditioned - it was 34 degrees Celsius the day we attended so it was a virtual oasis. Plays were pretty good.
Excellent seats and great performance. Rope.
The plays and setting of the Shaw Festival theaters are the best in the world.
Beautiful, cozy theatre, amazing talent during the Shaw Festival, and in such a great location. Wonderful experience.
It has greatly improved since our last visit two years ago. The auditorium has quite clearly been renovated. More of an incentive to attend more plays there.
Nice old theatre. Good live plays
Really enjoying this year's season so far. Was worried about the madness of king George as it is so dependent on the skill of the lead actor but I am happy to say Too McCamus does an amazing job.
Great little theater, very intimate. Cast and direction were fabulous.
Beautiful old theatre, great view from most seats, even the balcony. Be warned however; the seats are very snug and "cozy". Those of us who require a little extra space may be quite uncomfortable.
Had the best time with my Mom for Christmas. The cast of A Christmas Carol was incredible. Will definitely be back next year!
The incline of the theater seats is very slight and makes for more difficult viewing for short people. Cushions are comfortable, washroom stalls are small.
My wife and I for the last 9-10 years have returned to the Shaw Festival several times a year to enjoy several shows. The productions are always wonderful to watch and has become a tradition with us. This year's A Christmas Carol, 2nd time seeing it at the Royal George was a wonderful the first time we saw it. Lovely theater, great atmosphere.
This theatre is nice looking but the seats are so close together that it was very hard to get in and out. I didn't even get up at the intermission because I would have to make a whole row of people stand up so that I can get out. I have been to all other theatres at the Shaw but it was my first time at this one. Seats are uncomfortably close together!
Wonderful small classic theatre to see plays. We saw the Christmas Carol and it was fantastic True to the art with great presentation!
Amazing theater during this years Shaw festival.
Five stars for the play (Madness of George III) and negative-one stars for the brutally uncomfortable seats. The Shaw Festival is of such consistently high artistic quality that if a play sounds like it's interesting, you will like it. The Royal George is a pretty enough theatre, with helpful staff, located at the heart of polarising Niagara-on-the-Lake. Is the town a quaint and charming old village, or is it a cynical cash-removal trap preying particularly on the Lexus and Aston Martin set.
Classic small theatre great seats!
Quaint Theatre in Niagara on the Lake. Enjoyed watching the classic " Christmas Carol". Buy tickets ahead of time and pre-order your drinks before the show to have ready during intermission. The show really did put me in the Christmas spirit.
The Shaw festival has a promotion for young adults (under 30) to get tickets at a discounted price. The acoustics in the building are great so it is fine viewing from the balcony. Quite the experience. We saw "Getting Married" and it was terrific!
Love the live performances - the cast was very animated even we went to see Getting Married
Marvelous. Great sight-lines. Nice refreshment and seating opportunity in the basement.
Our dear friends, my wife and I enjoyed a delightful performance of "A Christmas Carol", this past Wednesday afternoon. It was a charming, entertaining and thoroughly wonderful experience. Never having been in the Royal George before we were delighted with the atmosphere. Thank you to the town of NOTL for having all the snow so artfully decorating the tree lined streets. Magical!
Great show actors awesome thoroughly enjoyed time there
What a wonderful location to take in a show. From a historical perspective alone it was a great afternoon.
Saw A Christmas Carol. Sat in balcony and the seats were great.
Comfortable seating ...great show!
Wonderful production of Christmas Carol.
I really love this style of theatre. Lots of character. We saw A Christmas Carol, which was excellent. Will definitely go back
Cosy little theater. Saw a very good production of Shaw's Arms and the Man here.
Wonderful little theater! Just watched a Christmas Carol there and it was fantastic!!
Great theater right in the heart of Niagara On the Lake.
A wonderful theatre, but a disappointing, lacklustre matinee performance of Cyrano.
Great performance, and with the theatre being so small, it is impossible to get a bad seat.
Lovely old theatre but be warned the seats are a tight fit for larger people. We all got cozy with the people in our aisle. We saw A Christmas Carol and it was a great time.
Stage Kiss - quite an interesting take on the fine line between illusion and reality when acting as someone's lover on stage. When is a kiss a kiss?
Wonderful small theater inside. Just amazing experience
This excellent smaller theatre is home to many Shaw Festival plays. It's location in the heart of Old Town make it a great weekend trip. Parking can be difficult because metered parking is all that's available nearby, but walking Niagara-on-the-Lake is a joy in and of itself.
I love this theatre but the 2 stars is for the play Rope. It's just not very good and in fact it's memorable as the lousiest play I've seen at Shaw in over 20 years.
Love the theatre. The quality of acting is always better than average. But extremely disappointed with the show "oh what a lovely war". Its absolutely disgusting to make a comedy out of such a serious subject matter when people went through so much suffering and tremendous losses. Obviously, whoever came up with the idea, has no clue what it was like to fight, starve, die etc. The loss of kids and the loss of parents for the kids was unbearable and left that generation psychologically traumatized for life. This is not how it's being presented in the show and what does it teach this generation?! Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable!!!
Beautiful heritage theatre, centrally located in the middle of Niagara on the Lake with an excellent repertoire of professionally done shows!
great old theatre, caught Cyrano De Bergerac as part of the Shaw Festival it was great fun beautifully staged
