I'm giving this place five stars because i grew up in nelson with the civic as our only theater, and over the years they have had many opportunities to tear it down or modernize it or build a theater complex like castleger, but they didn't. Instead they kept the atmosphere exactly the same while changing only the things to make the experience better; better seats, screen, stereo, speakers and projector. Well done civic theater, don't change.

This excellent big screen theatre is staffed by volunteers and paid employees, and they all go out of their way to serve the public. Good washroom, comfy seats, and delicious popcorn add to the enjoyment in the air conditioned theatre!

The civic theatre is a great local gem, with cheap tickets and a good location. The new spacious comfortable seats, digital projector, and state of the art sound system definitely make the Civic a welcome night out, however that being said, most of the time the Civic will not receive popular movies, or a least only receives them much later than most locations, which means much of the time I find myself having to drive 30 minutes away so that my favorite franchises aren't spoiled by the time the movie gets to Nelson. Their website is very poorly designed, with current showtimes not displaying, and future movies very rarely showing dates. Overall the civic is a good thing but could definitely improve in some areas.

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of indifference and closure, this is The Theatre That Could. Nice blend of blockbusters and more outre selections. Local treats and real butter! Comfy seats. Wheelchair accessible.

Being from the lower mainland i am used to putting up with cineplex's bull, and this was a nice treat. This is the way theatres are supposed to be, not overpriced!! Pop was 3.50 for a large and you get a free refill, same size at colossus is like 6 and no refill. Also the recycling bin has old movie posters that you can take on your way out for free; full size movie posters that should be 15 or 20 bucks for free!

I recently attended a Cabaret Show at the Civic Theatre. Great performance and a great community theatre. The seats are really comfortable and the atmosphere is Art Deco era. Their snack bar is full of tasty treats as well. I would recommend for films and live performances.

New seats are very comfortable. Balcony seats are top notch. Ushers are absolutely fabulous. This community operated theatre is wonderful. They even provide booster seats for younger children.

Nelson’s local movie theatre, recently renovated and has one of the best sound systems I’ve ever experienced. The staff are very friendly and appreciative. I like to go here anytime they show a movie I want to see, even if I’ve seen it already!

Great old fashioned theatre feel with new sound system, screen and chairs. The seats are so comfortable! The concession has a good selection but is pricey (however I feel like that its within the normal price range for theaters these days). Also have a nice variety of movies offered their between independ films and big box office films.
