REVIEWS OF Algonquin Cinemas IN Laurentian Hills

Expensive for the quality of the theatre. Prefer Troyes in Petawawa or going to Kanata or Ottawa. Better prices and better experience.

Well managed cineplex. Staff are friendly. The latest movies presented.

A small theatre for a small town. Nothing fancy but never had anything to complain about.

Jason Moses

Duane Gastant' Aucoin

This was alot better than I was expecting after reading some of the bad reviews! You have not experienced horrible theatres until you've gone to a movie in Whitehorse, Yukon!

Scott Hall

It's a good small town theatre. The staff were helpful rushing us in when we arrived late so we wouldn't miss critical details at the start of the movie.

Sarah Ziegel

The best theater popcorn I've ever had. For a small town, family owned business I can see they have been trying to keep the life a the theater going which is nice.

D. Lloyd

I think we should all be thankful, for this family to keep the theatre going after all these years.

Cyndy Phillips

Dirty and cold.

john Schneider

OK for a small town. Nothing to get excited about. Could use some upgrading

Wish I could rate it zero stars. It's overpriced and the staff are rude. The drinks in the vending machines are expired and they refused to refund your money. Go to the theater in Petawawa if you actually want a good experience.

For this area, we're lucky to have a movie theatre in a mall at all. Think about it ... a small town like Pembroke has a theatre in the mall by the convenient Food Court. It gets boring to just watch Netflix and DVDs at home. Everyone needs to change it up. No, it's not perfect i.e. the seats. The food is no differently priced than at any other theatre including big deal Kanata. I don't care if the lady at the box office isn't fakey cheery, happy all the time. I'm there for a movie not special attention. And sounds through the walls? It's exactly the same in Kanata. I'm grateful.

I like to go to the movies here they have Tuesdays cheap night, good place to bring families.Price are crazy for food but that's with every theater I was able to get a refund because I didn't like the movie I left 20 minutes so I dont know if that was a one time deal but I was very happy about it

Robbie Mclaughlin

The only movie theatre in town

Same as 10 years ago. Unfriendly staff. Theater falling apart. Where do all their profits go?

Theater needs big time update. Seats are well worn out, you can actually feel the metal frames. They have surround sound but I think even that could be updated to newer Dolby Atmous sound. Audio levels when movie starts is well beyond loud, better sound system lower the volume some. Turn up the sub levels in theater 1,2 and 4 or if don't have, maybe best get some and balance the sound. Theater 3 is surround sound however it needs audio balancing, after we are there to see movie releases as they were filmed with the best surround sound capabilities. After all most of us have up to date systems at home.

This place hasnt had renovations as long as I can remember..its getting hard to find 2 seats together that arent ripped or dirty. If we want to see a movie we simply drive to kanata and get one for almost the same price with leather recliners.

It's our only theatre in the area, it's dated and the seating is flat so hard to see around the person in front of you. The staff is very good though.

Shaun Stuckenberg

This place has an advertisement for Spider-man No Way Home for daily matinees at 115pm. Well it's 115pm and it's closed so that's a lie. A waste of time and babysitting money.

This theatre is definitely not worth the trouble of going to, the service is very slow and viewing extremely limited. You can't even call ahead to see if a certain show is sold out or not so you may just end up wasting your time when you get there.

Dwayne Lamarche

In need of many updates seat's are very uncomfortable but service is ok

Old school cinema with Friendly service.

Adam Carter

It's a good cinema. It is the only one around and has all of the big releases. It could use more sloped seating.

Nate Maschke

It’s nice to have at least one option of a place nearby to see the new movies out but with the current state of cinema would be nice for more integration with the moviegoing public. The rates are on par with most theatres in larger cities that offer comfortable seating, reserved seating, online ticket purchases etc. I guess you could say it adds to the “old town charm” , but when a big movie comes out the line is huge and you will have to line up well in advance. Instead we now use that time to purchase our seats in Ottawa for a specific showtime on the way to the theatre where our backs aren’t soar and making us fidgety half way through movie. Will definitely adjust review as well as theatre of choice upon making some of these smart business decisions, but until then will continue to make that trek to a more worthwhile venue.

Didn't have movie snacks, horrible chairs, and the audio is super loud to the point I felt vibration through my chair and ground, and it's freezing in there

Rob McIntosh

Sorry but this place is getting worse. Needs a renovation, uncomfortable seats cash only snack bar and it was colder than normal. Also update your website with the correct hours please.

Deb Raddatz

Great theatre

Julia Perkins

While the chairs are uncomfortable the popcorn is great

Nafta Nurse

Small, pack the Lysol wipes. Don't even think of sneaking any snacks in here.

Brenda Troke

We are desperately in need of a theatre in Pembroke. Between the population of the Ottawa Valley, Pembroke and Petawawa we have the need for it. If we have the population for Starbucks, we have it for a new movie theatre.

Lt.Kippo

Why are they still in business. The offer nothing.

Aidan Leach

It's the only show in town, except for Petawawa's second run theatre and the drive-in in the summer. It hasn't changed since I was little. The seats are starting to break and you can hear the next theatre's sound.

Jessica Parent

Decent for a theatre in a small town. No debit for concession stand, few movies playing at a time

Good place to go if you're a casual movie watcher, but if you want the full movie theater experience, I'd go to cineplex. Some chairs can be uncomfortable and some cup holders are wobbly

Les Neilson

Older cinema, definitely needs an update. Independently operated so no online sales or chain gift certificates accepted. Food and drink tastes slate, no matter how freshly made.

Izak06flash isaac

Its a great cinema!

sheri paquette

Enjoy variety of snacks and great friendly service. Prices a bit high on snacks and drinks and dislike having cash only for snack bar. Movie selection is good. Very clean washrooms.

Okay but they definitely need to upgrade this theater. Especially for the prices they charge. Seating should be better like theaters in Ottawa. As it is now the seats are awful.

The place is over priced. The food is way to expensive, for the price of the tickets they should maybe think of doing a major update.

Computer User

Would have earned 3 Stars, but literally watched the staff dump popcorn bags back into the popper while we were waiting in line to purchase tickets. Guess who won’t be eating popcorn at a theatre ever again. It’s small, dirty but it’s all there is in the Valley. Prices don’t reflect the poor quality of the place, but I imagine it’s expensive to keep the doors open.

Best movie theatre in Pembroke

Dave Pépin

When I can I drive an hour plus to Kanata for a fantastic experience. At this theater you meet the Asian woman as she is always talking on the phone with her relatives when you purchase the ticket. On one occasion the lights came on during the movie for 10 minutes and the woman at the front denied it ever happened. I didnt ask for a refund. I just wanted them to get their business sorted out. The place can use a major overhaul and the lady who runs the shop has zero skills. Take money and go. Who can blame them. They dont need to be polite. They dont need to update, the competition is over an hour drive away. The popcorn is popcorn.

Gina H

We like this place, wish they would update a few things, like the bathroom. Having a way to dry your hands would be nice. Popcorn is always fresh and movies are on point. I think not enough come out to enjoy cinemas anymore. Gets quite costly I guess. But it is nice to get out for a change

Terribly outdated theatre. Concession stand doesn’t offer debit. Seating is horrible. No safety lighting on aisles in theatres. I’d rather watch home videos of my great aunts trip to the Grand Canyon then this.

Reg Hoover

I have been there. It's in the mall where I was shopping.they have decent movies

Bradley Burneau

Samantha Wright

Getting expensive and very poor quality. Small screens, uncomfortable chairs with your knees wedged sideways. You can even hear the movie next door while watching your show. The Oriental lady who takes your money never seems happy and always a bit upset that you are there. Go to Troyes Cinema in Petawawa instead. The owner does handstands before the movie! Wonderful unusual cinema!

Theatre needs uodating could hear other movies over ours dirty bathrooms were filthy and we went to a matinee ..seats are uncomfortable and very overpriced for what you get

kari gillis

TLDR- spend $10 more on gas to go to Kanata. You’ll thank me later. You’ll be greeted by the most unfriendly, and rude lady in the box office. After you pay the same price you would have to go to a landmark or cineplex with reclining leather seats, you’ll enter into a cinema that hasn’t been modernized in over 25 years. Your TV has better quality then this place. You’ll pay for severely over priced and stale popcorn- don’t get the butter- it’s legendary for making people sick. Don’t count on seasoning for the popcorn or even a selection for your snacks. Pickings are very slim here. One upside is the students working the snacks are usually pretty cheery. The movie quality is lackluster when comparing it to a modern cinema. No surround sound expect in one theatre, screens are pretty small too. By the time you’ll spent your 40$ on a movie here, you could have dished out an extra 10$ and drove to Kanata.

Baylie Clouthier

Shane Gillis

G Davies

This is not your fancy new movie theatre. It's a smaller mom and pop operation but it's got a cozy 1970's retro feel to it, the popcorn comes with real butter and there are no seemingly endless streams of ads before the movie starts. That's a plus in my books.

A pretty dismal theatre but does the trick when there isn't much else around. Could be a better selection of snacks and drinks. Prices are fair. Theatre had a strange smell, similar to that of a litter box. Audio is just meh at best, what can you do with those tiny theatres I guess but throw some cheap speakers. Staff at the box office was just plain rude, but who cares when you're the only theatre in town, right? Staff at the concession stand was nice. Bathrooms - didn't have to go, and glad I didn't.

usefuIid10t

Tiny, unkempt and dirty theatre for the same price as the gig cinemas.

Ashley Boan

11.25 for adults, 8.75 for kids, including a young toddler which is ridiculous, but considering there is no other options, they do as they please. The seating is awful, you movie is overrun by the sound from the movie next to you, and the customer service is worse. I'd rather drive out of town than ever set foot in this theater again.
