REVIEWS OF Princess Twin Cinemas IN Kitchener

Paul H.

Nice twin cinemas showing indie movies using modern digital projectors.

A. George Adamson

A great deal on Independent and second-run films in a small theatre.

Yunee w

It has the movies you might've missed, small cozy theater and a small selection of beverages and food. The plus side is they sell beer and wine.

Nancy Adamthwaite

First time at this lovely theater! Did the dinner and movie special. Definitely will go again!!

Cliff Davidson

Friendly staff. Cheap tickets. Great movie. Nice art house theatre with charm.

Kim Wakeford

Wonderful to be able to attend this gem of an independently-owned cinema right in our backyard!

Alvaro Fernandez

First time at Princess and must say that the crew is amazing. Very welcoming in general and kudos specially to the guy handling the concession stand.

Jeff Hunt

A very lovely independent cinema. Great facilities and a passionate, caring staff.

James Harris

Good experience overall, but the lack of debit for a modern business is absolutely brutal. Making money off service fees using unbranded ATMs is in the business model of skeezy bars and night clubs. A tech inclined city like Waterloo demands better. The fees and whatnot for those POS devices are a cost of doing business in 2016. There really is no excuse these days for not having modern payment options. I opted to walk down the street to the CIBC to get money instead of using the ATM.

Ian Lawrence

The best locally owned cinema by far.

Jong Leu

old downtown cinema. cant complain too much

Hein Low

independently owned and shows limited release movies, love it

Reem El

An integral part of the Uptown Waterloo scene. Great local theater that shows a few select films at a time.

Tim T.

Great to see a local and thriving independent films theatre. The cafe is nice too.

Shad L

Perfect spot to watch small market films

Brent Horst

Small theater with interesting films. Try the coffees and unique drinks at shop off the lobby of princess twin cinemas on king. Original princess theater is on princess street.

Morgan Bartlett

Great little theatre with old time atmosphere but new sound and video system. Only two screens so it's a lot less crowded. The only issue is finding a place to park.

Nathan Good

They always show great movies that can't be found elsewhere.

Spencer Clerk

Great theatre. A KW staple.

Julian Romero

Great for casual movie night.

David Browne

The facility is nastalgic, there are some nice artwork in the bathroom foyer. If you are a movie lover, this is the place to be. They play unique and excellent movies. We saw the parasite, it was amazing, absolutely phenomenal. Popcorn was tasty overall a great experience ????????????????

Jonathan Knight

How can you not love this place. I support it as much snd as often as I can.

Dan Proulx

Uncomfortable seats. No leg room. They dont take credit. The projection screen has an annoying shinny spot near the center that reflects light in an un-natural manner.

Steve Martin

All the fun of a night at the movies at a fraction of the cost of the big corporate chains.

Joanne Lenos

Always a great visit at the Princess Twin Cinema Theater. Went there for the Royal Wedding live viewing. Had to dress up for that. Was quite fun. In previous times we did the meal and show pkg. Was a decent quick delicious type meal. Will do it again

Larkin S.

Small screen, seating is fine. The prices are reasonable. Movie selection is a lot more varied from other cinemas so you can see movies you typically won't see in theatres.

Ava Addison FEM

Always a great place to see a movie

Mike Sage

Comfy seats. Make sure to bring actual cash as this place hasn't turned into the 21st century yet.

Selene Miller

We love this place. Mainly showing indie or international films, this theater is never full and there is never a que. The seats don't recline or anything fancy, the popcorn sizes are from the 80's but that's why you come here. If you want full surround sound and burgers at the movies definitely go elsewhere.

Elliot E

Charming small local cinema. Somewhat reasonably priced snacks too. Good service. Nice seats.

Kevin Dougan

Fantastic small-town atmosphere in this friendly local downtown theatre!

Ross Ireland

It's a fine rep or second run theatre. The sound is good and picture looks good. The seats left me with a sore back but the staff is super.

Cajun Fox

Saw shape of water, was a lovely theatre!

Incredible Pants

Friendly staff, quaint independent theater.

S P

Great place in KW to watch a wide arrangement of movies. Great staff, decent popcorn.

Cary Scott

A great little personal theater with personality and charm.

John Ukos

Its kind of like the old time down town theatres. We went to see Parasite, it seems they play the less main stream movies. Also the coffee shop there was amazing

Liz Rego

Husband and I always enjoy visiting Princess Twin Cinemas. Finally bought a membership. Only $10 each. No idea why we never did it before. lol Nice sitting in an older style theatre watching great movies during the week for a matinee. Especially enjoy dining somewhere after in all the fantastic eateries in Uptown Waterloo.

Riel Meijer

Great theatre. Friendly staff. Good sized screens. Good prices, even better pricing if you are a member. Ten dollars for membership for a year, and you save 4 dollars per movie. Popcorn and drinks are pretty inexpensive for a theatre, and there is special pricing for members. Good art movies. Not great for blockbusters, but that is not why people go to the princess twin. Staff could be better at stopping guests from talking. Great theatre, best in KW.

Gordon McCague

Love this movie house! Great selection of interesting movies. Good prices.

Brandon Bell

Exactly what it was like going to the theatres before REAL big screens and REAL big prices happened. Great establishment.

stewart smith

Why are we here so much and not at home watching Netflix? Well, it's the rep cinema, first of all, with lots of great titles. And it's the ambiance, the fellow travelers enjoying the same moments, the popcorn, twizzlers, the dark. Remember?

Krystal Johnstone

Great movies play here!!

Daniel Goetz

A real gem in the heart of uptown. The Princess Twin is a Waterloo institution but they're also always improving and the movie selection is a great mix of mainstream and more indie flicks

Janet McKnight

Such a great venue!

KJ

Cute spot! I really enjoy seeing movies here and they always have something interesting on!

Sanj Varathan

Really cool indie theater.

Steve Bolton

Always a good time there

Anne Lavender

Best movie theatre in our region.

Drew Smith

By far my favourite cinema in Waterloo and maybe even overall, great little spot, not one to be missed!

Tara Kachroo

Bigger, cleaner and newer version of the Princess Cinema that still runs across the street. Great films you won't see elsewhere, including incredible documentaries and foreign films. Check out the incredible dinner and a movie deal with their front of house cafe Princess Cafe.

Samuel Taylor

Not too big but not too small! Really great for a niche Theatre that plays less mainstream movies.

Jim Beretta

Great movie selection. Best to come early for popular titles.

Kitty Uhlemann

Princess Twin is a pretty cool independent theatre. The seats are very comfortable (unlike other independents) and the washrooms seem brand new. Cool bonus - bought a beer at the snack bar to enjoy with the show.

Robb Hill Music

Nice quaint theatre , friendly staff , great international films hard to find screening elsewhere.

Kevin Swayze

Not your multi-plex theatre experience! Friendly, engaged staff. Clean. Great popcorn!

Michael Engler

The staff was awesomely friendly. The theatre is pretty small but adequate. The seats however were pretty uncomfortable, which isn't so great when sitting for a long time to watch a movie. Overall I had a good experience.

Nate Appel

I love movies. I think this place has good movies.

Lori South

Great smaller cinema that is licensed!! There are 2 twin cinemas at this location

Sarah M.

Love the princess! Such a great atmosphere and they always show the most interesting movies.

Paula Woodhouse

Price is about the same as other theatres but experience is underwhelming. Seats etc need an upgrade.

Jameson Saleta

Such a cozy theatre, great prices, and friendly staff. I always come here for my movies

Tori Walker

This is a sweet little old fashioned theater

Rye Telfer

The Princess is a great local cinema to visit. They continually show excellent films that often aren't shown at chain theatres. The dinner and a movie pairing with the Princess Cafe in the same building is a great deal for a very enjoyable night.

Christine JK

Always a quality experience with good customer service and wonderfully curated movie selection

Shauna Boniface

Best selection of quality filming outside of Toronto

Eric Blondeel

No matter how much time passes, I always renew my membership here.

BJD

Great selection of films.

Chris S.' Projects/ C.E.S.

Great theatre! Shows great indie and otherwise films, and has had holiday/seasonal specials too - Including an interactive playing of Rocky Horror Picture Show every year! ;)

Natasha Jackson

LOVE it here! Membership and ticket prices are reasonable. The viewing area is sloped perfectly so short people like me can still see the screen. I haven't had the snacks here but they seem reasonably priced and there are some good options. A great place to visit if you want to catch the more obscure and independent movies. Also in a great location in uptown Waterloo where there are plenty of bars and restaurants you can visit before or after. Staff were helpful and the venue was clean. As far as I'm aware, there's no parking but most people park in the uptown car park and the cinema is a very short 1 minute walk away.

Carl Snider

Excellent! A great experience. Wonderful venue! Truely a 'class act'. Will come back soon.

Miguel del Rosario

Cozy theatre with very accommodating staff.

Ludwik Meissner

One of the jewels of southern Ontario.

Kevin Cameron

Small screen. Center aisle (so no seats in the center). Comfortable seats.

James Strang

Cute little movie theatre. Nice vibe. Could be cleaner.

ThunderStorm Productions

Helped premier a private show there and provided some audio support for Q & A. Staff was very helpful

Burt Thombs

Great little theater with a movie that wasn't being shown in Hamilton or Niagara. Worth the hour and a half drive.

Jessica E

Friendly staff, clean theatre, excellent social media presence

Tom Ruddy

Super nice workers!!

Murray Child

Great smaller venue for watching good movies

Alfy R.E. Meyer

This place is a cozy old arthouse university theatre in downtown Waterloo that shows quality films/Indi films, that generally don't get mass market distribution. I went and saw Loving Vincent there. Nothing lavish or extravagant; just simple fare and a comfortable environment.

Aravind

Just go visit... You wouldn't regret ♥️

Margaret Hull

The best in film offerings. Carefully and safely managed. Hospitable and friendly. Always a pleasant time.

Renee Hunt

Great place for independent films that are hard to find in theatres elsewhere. And the food at Princess Cafe is fantastic.

Beth Visser

This place is great! Comfy seats, great movies, and rarely a crowd.

Brian D

Love this little theater! Every seat is good, in fact, we sit in the back row which has huge leg room (I am 6'4" and I can't reach the seat ahead when I stretch my legs) and still a great view of the screen. They have a combination of first run movies (a little later than new release dates) and excellent indies. Also have a nice bar/cafe attached to the theatre for a light meal and drink before/after the movie, and they serve beer and wine to take into the theatre. Also, prices are less than the big chains.

Dave Pope

Great little theatre that mainly shows independent films that you can't see anywhere else. There's a small coffee shop as part of the lobby and they sell their movie posters $20. My wife and I have been many times on our date nights and seen some great movies here. They also have matinee's that are baby friendly on Wednesdays. They turn the volume down, and dim the lights. They also allow talking. It's kind of a neat thing for new parents. It has that old school theatre feel, and is a lot more enjoyable than the chain theatres where you feel like cattle and over pay for snacks.

Maya D'Alessio

Love the twin! Definitely consider becoming a member! They offer a great selection of movies and movie events.

Andrew Hannaford

Good small theatre with comfy seats, reasonably priced.

Andrew Dean

Always love going here for independent films. Each of the two theatres sits about 100 people. Projectors are digital with good picture quality. With a membership it's $8 dollars a film.

Harshdip Singh Deogan

Lovely place, perfect date night! The food is cheap and good too. Definitely going again!

Brian Dorion

Very nice rep theatre. Comfortable seats. Nice cafe.

Tyler Plante

Great indie film house in uptown Waterloo. Both the twin and the original always have great films not shown elsewhere!

Melissa Roe

So lucky to have this gem in the city centre

Rob Krueger

What an amazing art house theater! So happy that they were able to weather the pandemic.

Tongue Slap Productions

The guy at the desk is awesome! he remembered me and my friend from yesterday and even remember our snack orders. I appreciated his friendliness and it makes me wanna come here more often!! :)

Roger Psutka

Great! Very clean and I felt very safe.

Cal Cooper

Friendly staff and always the best movies in town

Bill Mackenzie

A great cultural institution for Waterloo. Chairs can be uncomfortable. Try the little Bistro out front. It's surprisingly good

Brett Knox

Great little independent theatre(s) in KW, they bring lots of smaller movies that the big 2 chains in town do not!!!

Michael Wright

Best theatre in KW. Gets *real* films, not the fair amount of crap that gets served up at the big corporate theatres.

E Rullmann

Great local movie theater! Always showing award winning films. Cash only.

Jenna Berlett

Always great movies playing and reasonably priced. I enjoy the non mainstream movies they show in addition to the classics! Be sure to get a membership- it is well worth it!!

sab kulafofski

Always a good experience. The Tutts run a good show!

Erick Cardenas-Mendez

Good screen and the concessions are well priced, but the sound is subpar. They play a lot of movies though that you won't be able to see at any other theater in the region.

Mark Church

Friendly staff, great alt movies in a classic retro theater

Mallory Thompson

One of my favorite theatres in the area. Great films, amazing snacks, great vibe

R C (DF Collectibles)

Been here many times and it's always a nice experience. Friendly down to earth staff, decent sized theatre with seats that are just the right amount of comfort. By far the best place to watch those independent films that us lovers of the art of film want to watch.

Ian Hutchison

My wife and I bought a membership. They play fancy movies so when I walk out of here I feel cultured, like Bruce Wayne's parents. There's a really neat sign above the urinals as well.

Chris Sosnowski

The only place in Waterloo Region to see a movie that's not widely available in big theaters.

Jessey Rice

Love this little cinema. Lets you bring yourr beer to your seat. Also shows movie you cant see at the bigge theatres

K Chow

Went to theatre on Saturday afternoon. Staff was friendly and helpful. The theatre looks a lot better than my last visit which was over a decade ago. Only reason I can't give them 5 stars is the fact that the movie started late and with no soundtrack. When someone informed the staff there was no sound they we restarted the film and again no sound. By the time the sound come on. By now it was 2:45pm and the movie was to start at 2:15pm. I will still return to the theatre if there is a movie I want to see. Got to support local businesses. Might even become a member too.

Rebecca W

Always showing the best movies with reasonable prices, good snacks/beer, and friendly staff.

Blaine Gray

Movies that you can't see anywhere else. I go weekly. Not every good film has to be "epic".

Trudy Smith

"Small town feel" theater with friendly staff

Sheida M

Such a lovely experience...that I don't want to ever go to Galaxy or Cineplex cinemas anymore. I will not explain more because I don't want to spoil it for you ;)

Gillian Gothard

Great local business showing some of the best movies out there. If you want to see Oscar contenders, or just something that'll make you think, laugh, question your existence, etc this is the place to go. Snack bar is good, less expensive than the big chain theatres. Theatres and snack bar are easily accessible to those with mobility issues, but unfortunately the washrooms are downstairs. Check their website for ideas on where to park nearby as they don't have their own dedicated lot.

Andrea

THE place for dinner and a movie. Try the California Veggie on multigrain- it's a perfect sandwich! Staff are always friendly and look at those coffee mugs! Feels just like having dinner in a friend's house.

Abigail Johnson

Great prices. $9 for a student $12 for everyone else. Great seats. Clean place.

Mona Pettit

Movies shown often very good.

Tara A

Love the Cinebabies event! So great to still be able to go to the theatres with a baby!

Michael Major

Great cozy cinema in the heart of Waterloo’s downtown.

Ali

That's where you will find 'must watch' movies in KW.

Jess Huston

Favourite cinema in Waterloo- always has the best movies, (and nice to get a sandwich before from the cafe). Friendly, helpful, quick. Great snacks and community support. Membership is SO worth it.

Jennette Reid

Always shows interesting films! The membership is worth the savings. And if you have time, the princess cafe is a great spot for a meal or dessert before or after your movie.

Michael Bierstock

My favourite place is to see a movie. Every seat is great and the best popcorn in town!

Chris M

My favorite theater in the KW area

Cedric S.

Not a bad place to go watch a flic. Only down side is that it is almost the same price as Landmark. Ok seating. Not too comfy.

Bill Bulmer

Without a doubt the best independently owned theatre in Waterloo region.

Chantelle Z

Good movies and there's a cafe agrarian great service and food

Renfang Liao

I like this small nice cinema. This is the only cinema in Waterloo that has three billboards and shape of water.

Heather Huston

Paddling film festival! Awesome venue!

Sasha Einwechter

Great place to see films not shown at the big theaters

Michael Labocha

This is a unique place in the KW area, if you are not brain dead and enjoy movies that actually make you think. I highly recommend the dinner and movie option. Best sandwiches in town! The movie theater sound and picture quality are also surprisingly good.

Love this place! Has a great vibe to it, and in a great location. If you can’t find parking in front, there’s a parking lot on Regina and Bridgeport that is only a minute walk from the cinema!

mack brown

Currently 10min past start time no movie what are you saying movie man Edit: 26min past start time told movie probably wont start

Sarah Rourke

Great local cinema that I will always support. Prices went up due to COVID but that’s understandable and it’s still better than Cineplex. Theatres are comfy and movies are great.

John Paul

Old fashioned. But cute.

Ibrahim Tahir

The people who work here r very friendly

Marina Triebe-Gravel

Great staff, lots of COVID measures in place. So nice to be able to enjoy a film again. We'll be back next year for the Banff Festival!

Julie Moyer

The BEST place in town to watch movies. My favourite place in uptown Waterloo. And their popcorn is the best in town too!

Vic Beaumont

Disappointed that they didn't have captions, but a great venue overall. It's wonderful that the lesser known productions can have some prominence in Waterloo.

Raven Balor

Love the Twin just as much as the original! Good staff, reasonable prices and nice selection of movies to pick from all the time

Nadine Eby

Relaxing smaller theatre with mainstream movies and a cafe for a bite to eat.

Fred Redekop

But did not like the movie "The Favourite ". It was a normal sexualized hollywood flick. The acting might have good but the story left me wanting something better.

The Princess Twin Cinemas is an amazing independently owned organization that features a great selection of award-winning films, while giving individuals the ability to enjoy a vintage atmosphere. The location is very convenient; found in Uptown Waterloo, which has a fair amount of bus stops nearby, as well as useful parking locations and three hours of free parking. In addition, the location is surrounded by various attractions and restaurants, which are within walking-distance from the theatre, offering great tourist stops. Although the place itself is quite small, it is an area with minimal visitations, allowing visitors to enjoy a more comfortable experience. The place was overall very sanitary, both in the theatre and the washrooms. Service, however, is only available 30 minutes before shows begin, and provide visitors with reasonably priced tickets and food, compared to the other well-known theatre prices. The concession stands at the Princess Twin Cinemas only accept cash and debit, which could be inconvenient for those who need to use credit cards. Connected to the lobby is a Princess Cafe, which offers a great selection of food and drinks, as well as an Odeon Gallery, where art by local artists are displayed. This gives visitors an opportunity to enjoy food and amazing art while waiting for concession stands to open or waiting for their movies to begin. The staff seemed to be very friendly and welcoming, which ultimately lead to a great experience. During my visit, choosing which movie to watch was made easy due to the online website. The website included short descriptions and trailers of each of the movies available, as well as the times they will be played. The selection of movies played at this Cinema only presented films such as Hollywood Classics and Festival Hits and did not provide any current movies, which ultimately attracted a more mature and older audience. Nevertheless, the younger audience is still accommodated through special events such as “CineBabies”, which is a program run by the theatre on Wednesdays, and provides parents and their kids with child-friendly films with lowered-volume, dimmed lighting, and bottle-warmers. For improvement, I would personally suggest accessible services for individuals with disabilities. For instance, considering the fact that the washrooms are located downstairs, it may be difficult for those who are in a wheelchairs to maneuver their way up and down the stairs. This issue can be resolved by the implementation of an elevator. Overall, my friend and I had a great time and believed that the cost of the experience was generally worth it. I would in fact recommend this place to individuals who want a unique cinematic experience, as well as those who enjoy classic movies.

Art JB

Excellent movies. Excellent setting. Excellent staff too.

David Gillies

Cute, tiny, quaint with a sound system that over compensates for its petiteness by being uncomfortably loud. I am going deaf with hearing aids and went to see Cat Video Fest. With my hearing aids out my ears were still stressed.... At a cat video showing... Could be worse, could be better.
