Here you will be able to see the feddbacks of real people who are using the services and products of Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema (Movie Theater) in the territory of Etobicoke (Canada).
Currently the business receives a score of 4.6 stars over 5 and the score is based on 127 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is virtually the best one, and it's founded on a high number of scores, so we may say that the assessment is quite credible. If people have bothered to rate when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to place tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Movie Theater is classified in the category of Movie theater.
I quite like the layout of this cinema, you can see most of the screen from the second floor! I quite like the selections of films and are more comfy than other theatres that I've been at. Sometimes, they host really good events (like free movie & usual TIFF movies)!
This is a great place to see many documentary films. Subscriptions are available that offer free admissions but single tickets can also be purchased.
Great film lineup here, awesome for independents. Always a good time here. I love theatres like these because occasionally you can catch the directors for a Q&A after the show. I've never been disappointed with any of the films I've seen here - even the delightfully obscure ones that I've decided to just pop in for simply because I was in the area. Prices are totally justified at a mere 12 bucks (same at Silver City). I will say that the screens are a little high up if you're on the ground floor and may have to tilt your head up slightly.
This is a really cool theatre space ... The concession offerings are interesting and reasonably priced compared to commercial theatres. The theatre space itself is beautiful and intimate, would have loved to sit in the balcony but we were late arriving. Looks like lots of interesting stuff plays here though!!
Went to watch a documentary (M.I.A) which was pretty good along with the theatre itself, however, the place was extremely crowded and the location isn't very ideal.
If you enjoy documentary films this place might be for you. We have been here many times to see documentary films. It’s a nice theater good seats friendly people and a pretty good snack bar! They will even server you a beer or wine along with your popcorn! There is a parking lot across the street and it is close to public transit.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Toronto Shadow Cast is phenomenal! Definitely worth the admission price!
If you like documentaries, then you'll love this place. They always show the best docs. The place also sells beer and wine.
Great place to see a show. Best popcorn ever, great prices, friendly staff, clean. Projectionist really knows his stuff could ask for a better projectionist.
It's rare to come across a one screen cinema. This one has been gloriously, and comfortably renovated. Great selection of documentaries that you won't see elsewhere. Best of all is that they pop REAL popcorn too. They also sell alcohol at the concession stand. Well worth a visit!
One of the best theatres in the city. There is always something interesting and thought provoking to see. Fantastic popcorn and licenced, so basically perfection.
The night I attended the documentary on Jean Michel Basquiat we arrived to see a firetruck at the entrance and a short line of people waiting to enter the theatre. Burnt popcorn set off the alarm but things returned to normal fairly quickly. My friend who uses a cane was offered a seat indoors while the rest of us lined up.
Incredibly moving experience having the contributors to the documentary there after to answer questions. Nice that they had snacks and drinks available too!
Cozy doco-cinema with loads of excellent content. Due to the balcony the screen is on the high side but everything about the place was pleasant. Excellent for a mid week documentary. Highly recommended.
Hot Docs is an amazing venue. My photos are specifically of a UDocs Live event which featured a documentary screening followed by a live panel of experts discussing the subject matter. These UDocs events are accredited for lawyers, accountants and business professionals for CPE/CPD credits.
Best deal in town with or without a membership. Staff always friendly and helpful. Easy access from subway.
Great venue for films and lectures. Very Clean and comfortable. I particularly like the large balcony. The lobby is very small and can be confusing. Beautiful art deco design. A Toronto Gem. I suggest purchasing tickets on line and printing tickets at home. Snack bar very simple and fairly priced.
One of my favourite spots in the city. Amazing films all year long and a wonderful film festival in April. A great organization!!
Great documentaries. Very eye opening
It's a great place to improve the knowledge about cinema...
The seats on the balcony are not comfortable but good view. The seats on the bottom are great but not the best view
Normal priced beers at the movies = the best. Really good popcorn and so many great films always play here.
Saw Fantastic Funghi, wonderful! Great theatre, lots of fantastic food and drinks and very comfortable.
I love going to see movies here! Comfy seats and not overly air conditioned. With excellent popcorn.
Visited to see the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Great venue, we sat in the second level near the front and we had a really nice unobstructed view of the screen. Not too many bad seats in this place!
I love it here. Great movies, comfortable seats and the snack bar is reasonably priced and offers sane sizes of snacks. Their selection of booze and drinks includes local businesses in addition to multinational brands. I do recommend sitting in the balcony.
Great place to catch a movie. Plenty of good docs to see here. Great food is close by for bite before or a snack afterwards. It's also nice that you can indulge in an adult beverage during your screening.
Beautiful old converted theatre. Great films, great variety. Serve popcorn, snacks, beer. Can buy tickets online beforehand or in person at the theatre. Would recommend!
Seats downstairs are more comfy. But seats upstairs give you a better view and are closer to the washroom.
The Bloor Cinema was one of my favourite places in the world to watch a movie. The seats are better, the screen is better, but I still miss the couch. Had many great chats there. Also, I miss the artist curated content they sometimes had.
Single screen cinema featuring a wonderful selection of documentaries constantly on rotation. The screen is raised an extra 15 feet or so to accommodate guest speakers at special events, so scoot toward the back for an easier viewing experience.
Much nicer since the renovation. Shows excellent documentary films occasionally with Q&A from the documentary makers. Lots of place to eat and drink in the immediate neighborhood.
great theatre. helpful staff. thank you.
Best place in the city--bar none--for viewing documentaries! Great sightlines for the screen. A lot of effort was put into this reno of what was the Bloor Cinema. They serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as snacks, too. I particularly like the balcony!
My very favorite theatre in Toronto. Eclectic and interesting films, and also pretty great live events. I saw an Orphan Black table read here, it was incredible. Love the balcony too! And it’s licensed!
Incredibly fascinating screenings, affordable pricing and a beautiful cinema. So happy that this place exists in Toronto! It's one of my favourites.
Nice place. Vintage and cozy. Not a lot of selection of shows. But they are unique. A break from Cineplex.
Always a great night at hot docs. Recommend sitting upstairs for best view
Neat little theater for indie films. -1 star because the screen placement is over 9000 feet off the ground for some reason.
Amazing opportunity to see great movies. Good facility with comfortable seats. Having reserved seats would be a good addition to the experience.
The theatre has a nice (if not expensive) concession stand and is very accessible for those with mobility issues. I find the screen a bit high up and having never attended a post screening panel, I wonder how the raised stage would effect my experience as a viewer. The upstairs washroom was clean but crowded with more than one person using it at a time.
It's an old style cinema with a good amount of charm and quirkiness. It's located next to Metro and Bus stations, so it's very easy to get to and from. Nice and courteous staff. But not much parking space for those who travel with car as it's middle of downtown.
The only beef I have about this wonderful theatre is that the screen is very high when you're sitting on the ground floor. Otherwise, beautiful, historical place to see docomemtaries and other special screenings.
The only real cinema for documentaries and other fascinating films. The Hot Docs Cinema is operated by a not-for-profit entity and do such great work at highlighting or bringing to light very informative and thought-provoking films from Canada and around the world. It is definitely worth dropping by or checking their website and seeing what their film schedule is like. You may find something worth watching and thinking about.
Love seeing Rocky Horror here! Great venue!
An almost historic local theatre, this Indy treasure hosts a world class film festival and all manner of fantastic films (both artistic and regular). Definitely worth catching a movie there during HotDocs film fest!
Great place to take in documentaries from all over the world. Love the vibe. Get a membership if you are planning to go more than 8 times / year.
Lovely theater. Comfortable seats.
Documentaries all the time. There is an accessible bathroom downstairs now. Water fountain with bottle filling. You can bring in outside food (get coffee from outside, unless you're desperate)
Saw a really great documentary here. They are great at procuring good films and giving them a venue whereas some of these would never be seen.
I have supported this venue for the last 3-5 years by subscribing to them on a yearly basis and have always enjoyed my visit. I have watched numerous movies, all documentaries (my favourite genre) and always learned something new. I like this old style theatre. This one has seats that are old style but comfortable. I have my usual favourite spot to sit which is on the second floor. I always purchased the bronze subscription but they recently informed subscribers of a discount for renewals. Since then, I have renewed my subscription and upgraded to silver. I have brought my mom to watch the Beatles documentary on one occasion and also two friends on two separate occasions (documentary on dogs being trained to lead the blind; documentary on the Come From Away show) to watch a movie as I had a few free passes in my subscription. The theatre reopened a few weeks ago but since then has closed again due to the second wave of COVID19. So far this year I have watched two documentaries. I will be watching a few more in the next few days. I also have to comment that the staff and volunteers there are nice and always helpful. The area where this venue is is my favourite place for shopping and browsing....
Love this place. Where else can you watch a movie, get the best popcorn in the city, and drink beer, for under $20 per person. Where? No where.
Great theatre, wonderful staff, phenomenal concept, great execution. It brings unique films that are interesting. A valuable asset to the community and city. A shame all of that positivity is marred by its association with the marquee sponsor.
Lovely independent theatre! Worth the membership if you watch a few documentaries each year. Great value, friendly staff. We also enjoy the free screenings such as Wimbledon and the Oscars.
Great movies. Classic building. Good beer wine and snacks. They show the Talking Heads every year!
Cute little theatre. Watched 'Three Identical Strangers' there and really liked the cozy vibe! Can even get wine at the concession stand! Cheers to that! ☺
I watched Toxic Beauty and it was great. Love the theatre. Seats were not that comfortable but not that bad either. Overall it was great to see documentary there.
We were at the cinema for the showing of Beyond Climate. The cinema has a great old time feel to it but still very intimate. Leg space at times might be a bit short but I would still recommend this place to family and friends for a showing of their favorite doc.
An essential part of the community in Toronto - so many excellent films have been shown here that the place is filled with a feel of creativity and adventure. It's a beautiful theatre located minutes from the Bathurst Subway Station - also near lots of cafés, restaurants and stores - I always drop into Midico art supplies across the street when I go to a film at the Bloor.
I have never had anything even resembling an unpleasant experience here. I've just renewed my membership for a second year. The value with a membership is fantastic! Friendly staff, clean facility, quality programming and conveniently located.
Amazing place to see documentaries all year round. There is the hot doc festival hosted across the city every year and the location also host some speaker series and podcast series . Membership is a great value with number of free tickets, popcorn, discounted pricing for all year round docs and festival ticket. If you are documentary lover, do not miss this place.
A nice, cozy - mid size - theater. Great location: easy access by TTC. A few steps from several great places to eat at: East-Asian (Korean & Japanese), North-American pub food, check out ''Insomnia", & much more ...
An excellent venue for movies and documentaries. Needs a bit more leg room but the stuff they show is always eye opening.
Absolutely amazing! Coordinators, Staff, Audio and Volunteers are so welcoming and helpful. Incredible experience with the event this evening ♥️????????
Yet again another fabulous Choice by the staff at hot Docs of what they bring to show. I saw the documentary about Ruth b Ginsburg what a Powerhouse woman who created so much change in North America . Hot Docs are educating us all.!
Great venue for different types of movies and other events. I was just there for some Curious Minds events, which were terrific. Easily reachable on the subway.
Classic theater with balcony seating. It's best to make use of the coat racks as the seating is tight.
A great place for indie and alternative films. It's smaller, so more cozy. Always great events happening.
Variety of refreshments. Bathroom inconveniently located. Lively audience.
It's great to have a place that let's us keep in touch with such interesting, and important topics and people!
The theatre serves an important role in bringing otherwise difficult to find documentaries to the big screen. The theatre is beautiful but the seats are a bit narrow compared to ones that have been updated with new seating. Having wide shoulders, I find them to be uncomfortable sitting next to someone else. The ticket and concession pricing is better than many other theatres too.
Hot Docs brings me to Toronto from Nova Scotia every year. It is an amazing film festival and the Ted Rogers Cinema is awesome.
Great Rep cinema for documentaries and rep cinema events. Traditional layout with balcony and it is licensed for liquor sales. Cold in the winter though, so wear warm clothes and socks.
Great programs and interesting movies. Reasonable prices for movies and snacks. Licensed with beer, cider, wine and rails on offer. Memberships are offered for more savings and bonuses. They often do community events and timely events such as the live broadcast of the final Tragically Hip concert from Kingston. Conveniently located close to the subway and many restaurants along Bloor for pre-movie dinner.
Lovely place. Will definitely visit again!
Way more interesting than commercial movie theaters. Love the documentaries. Not to mention a great location in a great neighborhood.
Great documentary programming here with friendly staff. The theatre has a classic look, but the seats are modern and comfortable.
What a lovely experience. We were here to watch "They Shall Not Grow Old", a story of World War I, like its never seen before. The movie was amazing, the service was outstanding. such a clean & kept theater. There is AMPLE leg room in all rows. I would definitely return.
Great documentaries at really reasonable ticket prices. Food and beer(!) are decently priced as well. Nice theatre.
Great venue to see a movie. Friendly staff, great popcorn. The feel of an old movie house. We always sit up in the balcony. Front row balcony.... best seat in the house!
Since the renovations, this place is fantastic. Cushy seats and a great vintage theatre. Plus, if you're lucky... the rocky horror picture show.
Great theatre for documentaries where sound quality and extremely large screen may not be necessary. That being said, the sound quality of the equipment is great and the screen is sufficiently large enough
If you enjoy documentaries, this is the theatre to see them! They have only one screen, so the movies tend to have very short runs. You can check out their monthly schedule online. There is lots of seeing, but this place gets busy! Also amazing is that you can buy alcohol. So civilized.
We've been Hot Docs members for a few years now. Every year, we're reminded why are are happy, enthusiastic HD supporters! World-class programming, inviting space, excellent annual Festival - and as a bonus, staff and volunteers (LOVE THEIR volunteer program) are consistently welcoming, friendly. Hot Docs is one of Toronto's gems of Arts & Culture. I'm grateful for it perennially!
First time in this theatre and I loved it. Went upstairs to see the Hot Docs film I'd come for and sat in the very front row. I moved one seat in from the aisle, as a part of the railing was obstructing my sight line. Saw and heard everything perfectly and the seats were fine. Easy to access by transit; get off the subway at Bathurst, walk out to Bloom Street and look to your left. Several coffee shops nearby, for either before or after the show.
Whenever I'm in Toronto this spot ways has unique and thought-provoking material playing. I love it. Seats on the balcony give a great view
Great little independent theatre that has some wonderful, educational programming.
They bring a lot of good documentaries and I am glad it provides the public options. Overall comfortable seating.
Great programs and events. Friday night openings are fantastic, often quiet and they manage to get producers or directors to speak at most of them.
Classic old theater. Good for documentaries, with comfortable seating and a warm inviting atmosphere. All the trappings of an old theater are here, with popcorn bags fresh made, ticket windows, and somewhat notoriously, not nearly enough washrooms- 4 people max can fit in them, and it's awkwardly angled at that. Besides the washrooms-, its an absolutely great experience
Old style cinema offering exclusively Documentary films. Cheap popcorn and drinks. A selection of locally sourced beers.
My favourite movie theatre. Superb selection and layout. Large seating capacity. The staff is very polite. My only complaint is that the tickets are too expensive.
Great theater with comfortable seats and unobstructed view almost in every seat (except in one row, clearly labeled). Love their selection of documentaries and frequent free/donation encouraged events to bring awareness to public issues.
Great place to watch short movies and documentaries. I went to watch the water docs film festival and saw some really great movies.
Beautiful cinema. Yummy popcorn. View's good from any seats. Usually some really interesting documentaries showing here.
A refreshing change from overpriced theatres. Popcorn, beer, and movies are priced just right. Seating is comfortable, staff are nice... No complaints at all!
My favourite cinema in Toronto. They show mostly documentaries and it is the home of the best film festival in town - HotDocs. Comfortable, fully renovated space with great popcorn, cool, friendly and attentive staff. Do yourself a favour and get over here to see a movie, you'll most certainly learn something and you'll be supporting a volunteer run festival.
Excellent venue. Much more comfy than some other TIFF venues. Incredible prices for high quality snacks and drinks. Highly recommended.
I haven't been here in many years. They renovated at some point and... Wow. Great space to hang with friends and catch a documentary.
Great theatre with great views, no matter where you sit. There are accessible areas as well so everyone can enjoy the show.
I really enjoy coming to this theatre. One of my favourite and the volunteers are committed. Always see familiar smiling faces.
A very nice little theatre. While it is not a huge theatre it has comfortable seating and a cozy balcony. Sound levels are equally good on both levels. Snack bar has a decent variety, even selling alcohol at cheaper than traditional theatre pricing.
The seating is comfortable. I am 5ft 4in and I had a full, unobstructed view of the panel I was there to see. Really that is my primary criteria for a theatre so good job.
Only cinemA in the city that only plays documentaries. Best popcorn in the city!
I love the vibe at this theatre. It's always great fun to see a film in one of the city's oldest cinemas. The documentary selection is outstanding and I enjoy the author's talks as well. It's a gem.
An awesome and well preserved large old theatre that airs an alternative to Hollywood. A great place for a class trip if your teacher too.
Was at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema to view the International Fly Fishing Film Festival. There is decent city parking around the area has alleyways with picture-worthy grafitti. A ton of restaurants and bars around for drinks and food and the cinema itself was cozy. Chairs reclined. Hope that they use this venue next year.
Classy concession stand. Always get the large beverage. If you order you’ll understand why.
Have gone there, a number of times, to take our Daughter, to see Rocky Horror Picture Show, on Hallowe'en. We got dressed up, in costume, like much of Toronto, that evening. She has gone back, on her own, with a friend, to see the same production. The shadow cast is amazing! Lots of fun and audience participation! They also have a snack bar. Bought tickets, online. Well worth it! Intend to go again. We don't live in Toronto, so it's a special occasion, for us - one which we continue to repeat. Highly recommend this show!
Great venue with comfortable seating. Well air conditioned. Take a sweater. Lots of popular food and drink nearby, to grab a bite either before or after a show.
Had the opportunity to attend the live recording of Mehdi Hasan's podcast (of Al Jazeera fame). He interviewed Jagmeet Singh and Ahmed Hussen spectacularly. It was a part of the Hot Docs festival.
Went to see a ballet documentary. Seats are comfortable. Love it.
I frequent this theatre way more than any Cineplex. They have fantastic films, comfy seats, and a great atmosphere!! Who knew that a movie theatre could have a community feel to it?
I would give it 5 stars for the fact that they have beer and wine, AND at normal prices, and a great selection of movies. In that respect it's a real gem! Just took 1 star off because of the seats upstairs. It's a tough choice: uncomfortable seats but in the nicer feeling upstairs areas, vs more comfortable seats in the somehow less nicer feeling downstairs.
Came here to see a documentary. Nice and clean theatre, albeit smaller screens than Cineplex. Much cleaner than Cineplex, however. Comfortable seating with ample leg room. Of course, being in Toronto, there is no free parking.
I'm sure that it's a nice place and everything, but when they had technical difficulties and made us wait outside for 30 minutes, we didn't even get to watch what we paid to watch. And there were no refunds, just a guest voucher. What a waste of time and money.
Went yesterday for my first time to see the Miles Davis documentary. I loved it! Not only the documentary but the place itself. The staff were very well organized and helpful. They did a great job directing the busy group that filled the theatre and helping people find seats. It was a full house and I’m sure everyone enjoyed it. Free passes for students and seniors. Will be back!
Watch M.I.A s #documentary release. Great work, so much admiration for her. The truth she tells is amazing and I couldnt had thought of a better venue.
Gorgeous theatre. Great staff. The balcony seats are amazing. There are even some extra wide seats available. Its also licensed, so you can grab a beer or wine. I highly recommend this place.
Documentaries aside the seating is tight and you have to hurt your neck to look up at screens. But I don't think it can be improved that much because it's a small theater. I do think the staff are friendly and attentive.
Super pretty inside!! As always, the snacks are crazy expensive. The aisles are a bit of a squeeze so if you're sitting down in the middle you're kind of stuck there until the end. Very little room for your knees to stick out comfortably.
Beautiful theatre, great prices, especially for members. Always showing very interesting and very friendly staff. Also has concession stand
Every documentary that we've seen here has been amazing. Great staff. The people responsible for selection of the movies are doing a great job.
I am giving this a low rating because of a very specific experience. The venue is great for the most part, and the staff are wonderful. However, I left the theatre with a piece of gum on my shirt. The gum was on the actual seat! Perhaps have the staff take a quick glance when they are cleaning up. Gross.
I'd give this 10/10 if I could. The free water is great, and also you get a free cup! I skimped out on furniture and dishes so looks like my cupboards will be full in no time! Today wasn't the best day, but that water was the momentum my emotional pendulum needed.
Always enjoy a visit to this grand, refurbished theatre featuring the best in documentary cinema. A big screen, comfortable seating and a licenced refreshment stand. Many screenings are accompanied by talkbacks with the directors, producers or subjects of the films, making it doubly entertaining and educational. Ticket prices are modest ($10-$12) and a range of packages can reduce them even further.
I went here to listen to the Founder of We Movement and it was great
Love the movies they play. The only down side is the rows are tight. I am 5'-2" and my knees touch the seats of the row in front. Tall people be ready
LOVED MY EXPERIENCE THERE! Only complaint is, the Wine serving is quite TINY for the PRICE they're charging. But lovely staff members who are helpful. ????❤
Very trendy hip place for watching cinima. I recently saw "Give me Future" and I found the show was and location well organized and managed. Will go watch more documentary films here. Also the serve drinks here which is a bonus ProTip: if you can sit at the front try going to the second floor and citing in the centre I find the view here the best. If you sit on the floor level you'll be looking up.
The best thing about this 365 days a year documentary film temple, is its programming. The second best thing is its humble no nonsense vibe. Staff are great. We're blessed to have this in our town.
Excellent. Must see documentary not only of a man's walk through NYC but also a philosophy of life. It reminds us to live every day to the fullest and to remember to smell the roses!
A little gem. Great selection of films. We chose to buy memberships and we are very happy with our decision.
Good spot for movies that are more of a critical success than a consumer success. Place could use a nice renovation.
Movie tix are a great value and they serve wine!!!!! Seats are comfy, semi recline and the screen is up high to watch. Fantastic theatre!!!
Exemplary programming, beautiful space and a strong community arts focus. The volunteers and staff and film fans make this a special community theatre. My favorite spot for a wide range of documentary film! -longtime member.
Great venue, medium sized, with balcony(!) to see documentaries you missed or want to see from the Hot Doc festival. Shows all day and popcorn! Saw the excellent doc Echo in the Canyon 2018, an Andrew Slater film featuring Jakob Dylan’s (son of Bob) musical odyssey through infamous Laurel Canyon times. The Bathurst / Bloor neighbourhood has become quite hipster. Love the vibe. Huge construction underway along Bloor, so biking here was horrible, highly recommend the TTC! Try Paupers Pub across the street.
Saw the documentary about the rock band Anvil there yesterday and it was awesome. The screen is raised about 15 feet from ground level to accommodate a stage for guest speakers. If you are up close you will have to look high up to watch the movie. Anything after 6 seats from the screen should be good. The theatre has a balcony, has a snack bar and is well maintained. Very cozy.
Went to go watch Grave Of The Fireflies and absolutely loved the experience. Great theater for both old and new non-mainstream movies. Refreshment options include beer and wine.
Absolutely my favourite cinema in the world. I wish I could talk about every gem I’ve seen here. I hope you get to, too!
Great location for local and international films.
Great vintage theatre. Men's washroom a little tight. Wonderful doc on Linda Rhonstad. Brian
One of the few bastions of documentary film appreciation. Despite having one theatre, it is almost operatic seating. Food and drink served from a well stocked concession. Service and staff are really great. Definitely for a cost of membership or a ticket, it's worthy to expand your mind through good filmmaking.
Beautiful interior. Very helpful and inviting staff. Great selection of very heart warming docs
Perfect date night. Amazing staff. DEE IS THE BEST HUMAN EVER. Dee is the manager here, she's amazing.
Could not ask for better service from the staff and the organisers. The cinema is roomy, comfortable and the screen position makes it easy to watch films. The volunteers are so enthusiastic and ready for everything
Haven't been here in many years. The theatre has been nicely refurbished since I last attended. Comfortable seating and the concession stand is licensed for beer and wine! Love these independent theatres.
Not one of your big chain cinemas, they have shows as part of the Hot Docs Festival. It's a good opportunity to see movies you wouldn't normally see on the big screen. They often have directors or producers or people involved in the films come and give talks as well. It's definitely worth looking to see if they've got a show you'd be interested in. In general, it is a good cinema. The seats are comfy, it is clean. They have the standard movie snacks and they serve alcohol.
Looking for the hipsters of Toronto? THEY'RE ALL HERE! Feel free to bring your neck beards, bicycles with baskets and plaid. You'll fit in.
Love the atmosphere. The seats are a bit small but otherwise comfortable and picture and sound quality are great. Would recommend sitting on the balcony though. The theatre is licensed and offers a decent selection of snacks and drinks. Very convenient to get to if you take the subway
Great location to access easy. Limited seats but it became its feature of having patrons. Screen is large enough for all people who would seat on the ground floor or balcony (on second floor). Long line up showed up every weekend! One of the landmark along Bloor St.
Excellent little venue for documentary and art films. This is the place to go for something a little bit off-beat. I was here for an author's event with Dan Carlin, and it was a great time.
The programming here is top-notch - they curate a fantastic selection of films year-round and the festival is an annual highlight for me as a film buff (and so much less pretentious than certain other big film festivals in town). Membership pays for itself if you see more or less one film a month, and tickets are otherwise significantly less expensive than a mainstream cinema. Highly recommended!
Love documentaries? This is the place to be. Bloor Cinemas is not as decorated as other movie theatres and there are only two floors but the area is much cleaner than other theatres and the popcorn is great!
A little old feeling but it’s a nice size theatre. Was there for the fly fishing film fest and the crowd was easily accommodated. Two levels makes viewing from the back rows of each level very good.
Beautiful theatre. Always a great selection of docs playing here!
Very nice theater! Staff is friendly and helpful. I hope to see another documentary there soon!
Had a great time here. much better then going to the larger cinemas. Great atmosphere and fair prices
Great movies! Buy a membership if you like movies. Show times work great fir seeing 2 movies at a time
I attended this venue as part of Water Docs film festival. The venue is nice, it has a concession with popcorn, alcohol and other drinks and snacks. My one complaint is that the screen is outrageously high such that if you’re on the ground floor your neck might get sore by the end of the film. The view is better from the balcony, however the seats are less comfortable up there.
I really love this place. It's not a fancy theatre but the programming is so good. And this is the only place that I know that focus on documentary films. Want popcorn? They're so cheap. There are two levels. If it isn't during the Hotdocs festival, you'll likely get seats as the screenings rarely get full (at least the ones I've been). It doesn't have a dedicated parking spot, so I'd recommend taking the transit when you come. The closest subway station is Bathurst.
This cinema provides the incredible opportunity to see the incredible work of documentary filmmakers telling the stories of real people.
Seats are very comfortable. However, it's not so steeply graded, so it's hard to see over the person in from of you. Balcony seating gave a better view, but it didn't have the same comfortable bucket seating.
Saw Rocky Horror here. Nice theatre and very comfortable. So much fun, kudos to the actors who were participating!
Excellent thought provoking film. Enjoyed the venue, too.
Watched the Anthony Bourdain documentary here. Loved the depth and richness of the documentary. Loved the environment and food and drink options here as well.
Love this cinema! Old but nice vibe and still comfortable. Even has a decently priced concession stand versus the bigger theatres around the city.
So that didn't go so well. Humber doc night canceled 10 min in due to technical difficulties and a popcorn maker issue that had three fire trucks arriving. I see alot of good reviews of the theatre.. Sorry for our evening though. Students family members travelled far for the event and the students looked pretty pumped to see their work on the big screen. Well, maybe next time
Love this theatre... It's got alot of the old theatre charm with all the alternative movie selections you wont find at the newer "plexes"...
Outstanding venue! Clean and comfortable both upstairs and downstairs! Cost is very resonable. Surprising that there is lots of parking along Bloor and the many side streets. Employees are very friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience for the documentaries you are not able to see elsewhere.
