REVIEWS OF Cineplex Cinemas Varsity and VIP IN Etobicoke

It's been a long time since I first visit this Cineplex. For any first timers, know that it's located inside the building, Manulife Centre. It will be up the escalators in the centre of the building. It also has a small aquarium once you're inside going towards the rooms. Plus there's beer to purchase ????

Carol F

Located inside the Manulife Center, take the escalators up to locate this slightly awkward Cineplex location. By awkward, it's placed inside another building that other people have gotten lost and missed the theatre. Thank goodness for Manulife's information booths. Also, their theatre's aren't the Cineplex's higher incline seating. It feels more of a low slope auditorium. For some of the shorter audience, I would straight out skip this location. If you have someone that's taller than you and you're stuck with the lower slopped theatres (like #8), and you didn't order the mid-rows, good luck losing 30-40% of the screen. Both the VIP and regular movie theatre seating were alright. Definitely leaning towards the old cinema vibes in here. It feels like they need to overhaul this theatre to be more aligned to the rest of their other chains like Yonge & Dundas or Queensway with higher viewing from all seating and newer seats. The screens feel much smaller for the depth of the theatre #8. (The picture of the seats I have are from the far back row of theatre #8). In terms of service, they had a nice employee checking for the Proof of Vaccination and ID at the front of the theatre before entering (very great personality)! They also have 2-3 booths available to order tickets in person. Although, I highly recommend ordering ahead of time to reserve seating. They have two sets of bathrooms but unfortunately the ones located near cinema #7 & #8 were closed. All the customers had to use the washrooms by cinema #3 & #4 which caused a huge line up. Overall, quality of the cinema could be really improved. But if you're looking for one of the older cinema vibes, this one is for you!

Jessica Wu

Great place. Central to the city, has all the latest flicks, modern and clean design. I'm a fan. It slightly stands out beyond the rest of the theatres because it's just that little bit nicer.

therealmogwai C

It's not a great Cinema. I saw phantom thread there and the position of the seating in all level. Meaning if someone is sitting in front of you then that's the film you get to see... The back of their head.

Christopher Voutianitis

I'm not one to typically leave reviews, but felt it was necessary to let it be known that the seats at this theatre are insanely uncomfortable. They are definitely built for aesthetics, no consideration of ergonomics. Additionally, the people working at the concessions stand were not accommodating in the slightest, and fairly abrasive. I will say the two guys working at the front checking tickets and COVID receipts were pleasant to deal with. They were great. That's the only reason I wouldn't rate my experience as 1 star.

Laura B (Ikantrant)

Went to VIP at this location. I am use to the newer VIP theaters and was underwhelmed. The design has come a long way. The vibe was "home theater" staff was friendly and responsive but will never pay for VIP again at this location

Swati Vahane

Place is awesome just I feel the Audio impacts where less and okay compare too other Cineplex. Over all great to watch plus shopping in around.

This theatre is fine. I’ve never had an outstanding experience here, it’s always been just meeting expectations or below expectations. The one issue I had was several weeks ago when the auditorium for the movie I was seeing was very crowded and overbooked. Seats were booked next to each other so there was no possibility to social distance even slightly. I did see people ask to move seats to the front of the theatre where there were open ones and were told not to. They claim there are measures in place to keep people safe but there were not. Other than that it’s an okay theatre. It’s clean, the concession is just like every other theatre, the theatres are alright.

Francesco F.

I'm not sure the VIP room were worth the overprice, anyway it was a good experience. The smaller screen/room is the whole point. You don't always need a huge screen. The VIP is an emulation of a home theatre, only with first quality equipment you couldn't afford for your home. Very comfortable wide seats, also.

Louisa Bauman

New in Toronto and the wrong address was on the tickets so ended up half hour late to see David Copperfield. This is post Covid and it was very clean, people spaced widely apart, but silly that I wasn’t allowed to sit with my three children. Two by two it is. Sound wasn’t great and it was too warm but the popcorn was delicious! Maybe I should give 3 stars but it was a good experience, the greeter was very friendly and welcomed us back.

Alex Morrow

We sat in theatre 8 to see 1917. It was about 30 degrees in the theatre, and the seats were not particularly comfortable. The first half of the theatre is flat. So if there are taller people in front of you, it will impede your view As well. The bottom half of the screen had the film overlapping on to the dark part below.

Ethan Liu

I went here for several movies with regular seats (didn't try their VIPs) and the experience is great! The cinema is located at the 2nd floor of manulife center and it is easy to find. The staff there will greet you politely and friendly at the entrance to check proof of vaccine. The seats are comfortable and some of their rooms offer twin seats which I find very nice.

Jack Harrison

Nice staff, well run theatre. The vip is really fun, you can order food right in the theatre. Also now serving beer (tho it's a little pricey at 10$ a beer)

Joel Herzog

Be careful when picking a seat and theatre here. Considering this theatre had a substantial renovation not long ago, it’s shocking that the seating is not the typical stadium seating now found in most Cineplex theatres. Good thing there was no one in front of us or we would have had a heck of a time reading the subtitles. Cinema 8.

emanuel chasi

Never going here again , didnt not like the services and as soon as my friends and i walked in they started harassing us it was so bad that we started too get anxiety

Samantha Miller

One of my favourite Cineplex locations, & they frequently have showings of a lot of the TIFF/awards-worthy movies

June days

Okay, the movie theatre is great. However the VIP theatre is not worth your dollar. Best to go to Dundas location, the room is smaller here and screen is smaller. It's nice an intimate but the true experience of VIP is definately at Dundas with comfy chairs.

Bryan S

Poor screen and picture quality… Poor food… Freezing aircon

Karen Jungjohann

Nice sized downtown theatre with upscale VIP (that I don't think are worth the money) and a dining area for food and drinks before or after your movie.

Kayla Howlett

I really enjoyed this theater, I like that you can bring any food or drinks from the restaurant into your movie now! Definitely makes me a repeat customer. It makes it more of an night out to be able to eat and then bring in a drink. Or get their Tuesday taco deal!!! Yummy!

Soheil Saeidmehr

The auditoriums are not too large and the seats are comfy. However, the screen quality is extremely low and takes away from the movie to be honest. The facilities, restaurant and staff are all good, but you go there to watch a movie and when the quality is low, you don't get what you intended.

Lissette Klimek

Good place to watch your best movies

Afsheen Rashid

Very clean and spacious theatres. The bathrooms are so clean, too! Wish I lived closer to this theatre so I could go there all the time. I also wish other theatres would take notes from this location. I can't wait to go back! I went to see "The Farewell" back in July, and will be seeing "Luce" within the next few weeks!

Carole Carmichael

Getting there for first timers was painful because of lack of identification on the building. Getting to the actual Cinema was also bad because there was an event in the cinema nearby and we had to walk thru the event to get to the cinema.

Nick Corona

Nice theater.

John R.

the VIP is ok but I feel like for the money you pay for just entry, the servers popping in and out of the theatre is vastly more disruptive to the movie experience than people getting drunk and loud crinkly bags. just smuggle your food into a normal theatre. this isn't worth rewarding cineplex by packing cooked food into small rooms.

Jen

Great service but the theatres and seats are much smaller than other VIP locations

Sara Sabour

Their theaters are old and not in par with dundas sq or richmond’s scotiabank at all. The screen is too small, just like an old cinema. It gets also very crowded without proper ventilation.

LaughingMan StandAlone

This cinema is not very big but provides a better environment than Yorkdale. Updated: 2021/10/27 Wednesday "Cineplex Cinemas Varsity and VIP" is near the Bay station and just a few minutes walk there. This cinema is on the second floor of the building and it's new and has small rooms for watching movies (It's not the VIP. Of course, they also have the VIP room and it's small.) But this cinema for a regular movie room is smaller than other cinemas. I feel more comfortable in this cinema and have a better experience here. (usually fewer people here, especially on workdays) I have watched at least 4 movies here, but this cinema never disappoints me. I love the staff and customer service here :-) Highly recommend this cinema and it's always my first choice to watch movies!!!!!!

Jay MCC

Now why do I love not like! Not because it’s under best building in toronto! Number 1 for service! Awesome polite team members possibly awesome management awesome food! Awesome vip! Best movie under cineplex love me some varsity & vip daily monthly yearly!! Keep up with great service success & intelligent inspirational motivational outlook on customer service!! Props daily!! To the team members for strong leadership team support & collaboration keeep it up!! Blessings ????????????roll camera ????????????

Paul Wuertz

Their VIP theater is quite small (25 seats?) with a screen that is small and flat. It feels more like a modern version of a screen at the old Carlton than a big curved multiplex theater. Also, the sinks in the washroom at the end of the long hall only had COLD water. The other washrooms (down the shorter hall to the right) were fine, but that area was sealed off when my movie was over so I had to use the washroom with freezing cold water again. On the bright side, the ticket taker guy was great about quickly changing our tickets for a later showing after we missed the original showing because of TTC problems.

Julia Paul

Don't be fooled by the construction of the exterior, and the sketchy looking entrance, this is a mall inside. It was hard to find, but once we went in, we found our way to the movies. The seats don't really recline, there are better theatres with VIP services.

Jack Candido

High quality movie plex with large screens and top movie selections.

Scott Damery

Overall a great experience. The screen seemed small even by regular vip standards.

Meghan D'Mello

The theatres are very tiny (the VIP theatre had only 30 seats and you can't reserve them ahead of time), and so are the screens, but it's a convenient location that's not very busy. There is also no timeplay, but overall a decent movie-watching experience.

JD

I've never seen a movie in one of the VIP rooms, so I can't comment on that, and will probably avoid them in the future due to these reviews. For the normal (and more affordable) experience, it is a good theatre. It's clean and has a good amount of screens, and is in the middle of a ton of retail and restaurants nearby. The biggest advantage of this theatre is that it is always playing great limited release movies, and is often one of the only theatres within a large area to be playing certain movies. Complaining about advertisements etc. is pointless. That's the movie theatre business in general, and out of this theatre's control.

Adam Aguzzi

It's a pretty good theatre but there are issues: 1: The VIP section is tiny and it's literally like watching a office projector in a small class room. 2: There are several regular theatres rooms, non VIP, that they offer reserved seats for purchase. However, there is only 2 rows per theatre that have this, and while management have some signs up on the theatre doors warning that those 2 rows are for reserved seat buyers, no one reads this and you will have to kick someone out of your seats, unless you show up 30 minutes early. Over the last 3 years, I have had to kick some out of my seats 6 out of 8 times. They seemed completely surprised. I feel bad about it, the other people feel bad--it sucks for everyone. The theatre doesn't change anything about it.

Celeste Faye

Did you know that you can now buy wine at the bar and bring it in to the theatre with you? What a lovely treat when you don't want to go all out for the VIP experience. The concession stand is great, but having a few healthier movie snacks would be next level awesome.

Bentley Ball

It's a good theatre, but I didn't find it exceptional. The VIP theatres have better seats, but smaller screens. Unless it's a movie event, it really does feel like it might be a better idea to pour a glass of wine, add Netflix, and chill.

Grace Quinsey

Friendly and helpful staff — very welcoming post pandemic. Clean, adhering to many sanitary standards. Generally, an intimate and comfortable cineplex, with smaller theatres that are still very comfortable! Definitely worth a visit.

Sammie Sea

The VIP Theatre is not really VIP it is a substantially smaller room and screen with significantly less quality audio. The chars are more roomy but very uncomfortable because they are made with a head cushion which cannot be adjusted, therefore short people get their heads tilted town if they sit back to watch the movie. I still have a crick in my neck today. The movie was in 3D but it was pointless because the screen was too small to actually experience the movie in larger than life quality as it was meant. I called to mention that their VIP looks nothing like the ads online and mention what I said above and was given a set of passes and popcorn for another film however I veery much would have more preferred a refund.

Dayna Mailach

Great, well maintained theatre. Bookable seats, popcorn and froyo. I also saw they were selling wine there today! A little hard to find with the renovations. Make sure you come early on cheap Tuesdays! There can be big lines.

Jorge Piscopo

Great spot downtown to catch a movie. VIP seating is comfortable with good staff and decent food service. Manulife also has parking validation for two hours if you spend like $30

Monit Mitra

Likely my favorite Cineplex owned theater in the city - normally clean, easy to access via transit, and a cool/classic aesthetic to their 70mm cinema with a red velvet look. Beyond that, it's your regular Cineplex so you should know what you to expect.

Toni Schofield

If I could leave less than one star I would. Arrived at cinema with pre booked tickets to have to queue at the mobile pick up booth (there is only one), then queue to get in (as you can't get in without a ticket to the concessions), then queue to get popcorn- THE slowest service ever, then when we get to the theatre- it is full with no-where to sit with our 3 small kids. Admittedly, getting a refund was no hassle, but 3 disappointed kids after spending $70 to see a movie is inexcusable. we went home a nd downloaded a movie for $6. This will be the death of cinema- a totally horrible experience.

Tal Saron

Very pleasant theatre experience. Be careful of the taps in the washrooms, though: the water tends to suddenly get very hot before cooling off again. It happened to me both before and after the movie.

Michael Schoenau

The theater experience is always good. On the other hand, don't bother with frozen Yogurt at YoYo's. Stale ingredients and sour yogurt on two different occasions. After bringing it back, the staff tasted a sample out of the machine and agreed it was a bit sour and asked if we wanted a new one. I don't think they understand that the yogurt in the machine has spoiled and it's not going to magically taste better. Bottom line: Good place to go for a movie. Just skip yoyos and grab a bag of popcorn and a cola.

Judith K

Packing people in. Didn't like the idea of people sitting right next to me, taking their masks off to stuff their faces with popcorn.

Maria Glover

Great spot to see a film. It’s not as hectic as the other cinemas in Toronto. Comfy seats in the screens with spacious waiting areas. Starbucks Coffee available with a good selection of snacks!

Patrick White

The VIP theatres here are awful. Don't waste your money. You'll be paying over $20 to sit in a tiny theatre with a tiny screen. The seats weren't oriented to the screen properly upon construction, so you either have to force your feet down to lean back or keep your next craned upwards throughout the film.

Tiffany Cariaga

Location is right in the heart of downtown. The only cons to this location is that the VIP cinemas are very small with a smaller screen and no surround sound. The location does not have stadium seating and some theatres still have the old school retro vibe. The pro this location is that they offer some smaller independent films.

Martin DeSouza

Just a heads up, the VIP room here had easily the LEAST comfortable chairs ever. Shockingly uncomfortable. Other rooms at Varsity have been fine.

Jordan Wellin

Extremely poor quality projection. The staff has been notified about this ongoing issue several times but refuses to replace the bulbs. Overall, it’s a depressing place to watch a movie, especially when it’s hard to make out the images on the screen with such dim projection. But nothing will change as long as Cineplex continues to hold a monopoly on mainstream movie theatres.

Nick Ko

Was a great atmosphere to watch game 7 of the Raptors

Kevin Terry

Great service, way too small and crammed. Small screen. Felt like you're in a crammed bus terminal and some put up a screen. If you're used to the one on the Queensway, you'll be disappointed here.

Adam M

With a Yorkville postal code you would think that this theatre would be "kept better." Think again. The washrooms are always filthy and I dont know of it's just my luck but every time I have been there, people are talking during the movie, moving seats, coming in late...always a commotion.

Alex Polischuk

There was the worst experience ever. I bought the VIP session tickets, but comparing to the regular one, I would choose second. The quality of screen and seats was a torture, but the final shot was a broken sound of conditioner or something like that. I don't care what was it about, but its really distracted

Preetham Natarajan

This has to be the sadest VIP theatres in the GTA. It's tiny, the screen is tiny, you can't pick your seats, and duringoour showing there was a holiday gathering in the VIP lounge outside the theatre doors. You could hear people screaming throughout our show. If you want the Cineplex VIP treatment for $22 per ticket, any other VIP in the GTA is your best bet. At least our servers were fantastic - attentive, quick and a pleasure.

Cole Davis

Great to be back in theatres after covid! Staff was friendly, however the screen in theatre 7 is fairly poor quality.

Sudhir Suru

Most English movies are screened here. However the Cineplex Timeplay is not available. Also the choice of movies available is very limited. Finding the right entrance to the Manulife Centre for reaching the Theater is kinda difficult. I mostly find myself lost while going in or while exiting.

Nora Kelly

I have been going to this theatre for decades. The staff are great, I enjoy food at the concession stand occasionally, but what spoils the experience for me are patrons who talk through the entire film. It's exhausting having to tell people to stop talking. These are adults 40+.

Sarah Kamalzadeh

Great theatre. Just watch out for auditorium 8 - the seats are placed on a really shallow slope so it's hard to see the screen if someone even remotely tall sits in front of you.

Kareem King

Trying my best not to make this anecdotal, but this is a VIP cinema in name only. This theatre is more reminiscent of a condo's private screening room than a modern day cinema. It appears that this might be an older movie theatre retrofitted with slightly better seats. This under normal circumstances would warrant a three to two-star review but my recent experience was entirely negative. So what was wrong with the experience? I went to see a big movie on opening night in VIP 3D. Only the front speakers played audio. The movie stuttered and eventually crashed. This movie was 1/2 way into a 3-hour movie. After waiting around 10 minutes for the server to reboot the movie started and stopped again. Everybody that stayed were offered free movie tickets, but the experience was ruined due to the nature of the movie and the overall length. This is not the first time I've encountered technical problems at this location.

Andrew Murray

the VIP screening rooms are not worth the price. you pay $20 to sit in what feels like a classroom with no extra room. The screen seems to be a custom made job. I've seen home theatre rooms that are more impressive. Once people start ordering food in there, it's cramped, hot and smells of grease. Not worth the price. You're better off going to Yonge/Dundas for the VIP screens. Avoid the Bay Bloor ones.

David Straughan

A great venue for seeing the limited release films that are hard to catch otherwise. Very central location. Only downside are the super sticky floors in the theatre itself - which have been the case both times I've been in this theatre.

Sasha Sukhina

Clean and comfortable thaters

Denise Cass

Standard theatre experience. Queues for concessions and washrooms are either very short (5 minutes max) or non-existent. Plenty of seating and a great experience overall.

Steve Walkinshaw

Nice clean movie theater. Beer and wine allowed in any theater. Lots of leg room but the seats in #5 were straight up like an airplane.

Gen Mail

Why do they allow time between movie showing in each auditorium for cleaning when no cleaning is done? I (first to enter theatre as soon as the cleaner finished) walked into the theatre to find litter on the walkway to the seats and popcorn on the floor.

Byren Innes

Great theatre! As my wife said, "my new favorite.". Fully licensed with lounge and liquor and food service in VIP. Located on mezzanine at South end.

The0neR1ng

Honestly this is the worst VIP theatre ever. Litterally all the chairs were squeeky, the food was served on paper plates, the screen and room were both incredibly small. I mean really small the screen was less then half the size of a normal theatre screen. The staff stood in the back and we had to wave them over for almost two minutes before they finally came and took our order. The whole experience was lacking and it definitely was not worth the money at all. It was a huge disappointment. It would have been so much better to go to a normal theatre and then just hit a bar after. I love VIP theaters but will absolutely never go back to this one.

Michael O'Brien

The commercials prior to the feature film ran for 15 - 20 minutes at very, very high volume levels. It was horrible. It bothers me that I pay to see a movie that runs ads. NO ADVERTISING PLEASE. The seats were comfortable and the screen size good.

John Hamilton

Saw Hateful 8 here yesterday in 70mm. Ignore the reviewer below me. The theater with the 70mm projector did not have a small screen, I'd say it was fairly average size. The sound was great, 70mm looked amazing, and the audience was great. No complaints and I recommend seeing Hateful 8 here in 70mm if you have the chance.

Steve St. Onge

Paid $20 for so called VIP only to find out the screen in 1/4 the size or smaller. Waste of money, would have been a better experience at home. Would have asked to change my ticket to a better screen but would have an to wait an hour.

Ryan Labrie

I'm a big fan of theaters. My girlfriend took us to go see Spider-Man right before restrictions kicked in. I was very surprised to find out that a premium VIP theater was smaller than any regular or independent theater I had ever been to. The seating was cram packed and not the quality I have come to expect from any vip cinema. The Sound was also very quiet, where it was noticeable to hear other people talking throughout the showing. The most unfortunate part was the staff had explained that this is known as the "leftover theater". As if this is common knowledge, I still can't wrap my head around paying a premium price for a sub par theater, when they could have posted a notice online or at the box office. Very disappointed

Cailla L.

Seats are awful. Cramped and uncomfortable. Tiny theatre. Not comparable to any other vip cinema I have ever been in and yet the same price. No servers 30 minues before the movie. Will not come back. And it got worse. Sound cut out and they rewound it twice... very stupid. Absolutely ridiculous.

Hany Soliman

Watched Batman vs Superman on Thursday pre-opening. The theater hall (#8) chairs were all on the same plane and not on a decline. Meaning if you're slightly short or sitting behind a tall person you can't see the already small screen. Seems like a minute complaint but could make or break your entire experience.

Paulo Valadares

Friendly staff. Clean auditorium, the only problem is the lack of control on reserved seats. People take advantage of that to use them without paying. And every time we go i have to kick them out of my seat, which is annoying. But it is more problem which their education than the place. But still you could have someone to double-check it minutes before move starts.

Susie Q

Theatre is very dated and sound is not great.

LeiLei B

Second visit this week and the staff are soing contact tracing, limited number of seats for each showing so there is a lot of space between the very few movie goers. I have missed the theatre.

Blue. Grey. OM

The VIP experience was disappointing. 1. Very small theater with equally small screen. 2. Small seats with cramped legroom. It's like paying for business class on an airline and you've been somehow placed in coach. VIP not worth it at this Cineplex location.

Ss

The vip theatre is pretty depressing looking. Tiny and packed. I’d rather go to the regular ones next time

Josh Measures

Theatre is really nice. Ticket takers were rude, but the concessions people were great.

Emily Henderson

The most overlooked of the three downtown Cineplex options, it's usually much less crowded here than at Scotiabank or Dundas. But some of the theatres are also smaller or more dated. There's also no Timeplay games at this location for some reason.

Sam Diep

Older cinema theatre with casual atmosphere. VIP experience at newer locations are better. Seats could be more comfortable and leg room is not great

Massimo Marotta

One of the worst VIP lounge I've ever attended! Chairs were uncomfortable, lounge is tiny with a miniature screen!! Seems like they converted a storage area- not kidding and called it a VIP lounge. By far the worst VIP room I've ever been in! Do not go this this lounge and pay extra....

Salmeen Shakil Choudhury

Nice atmosphere and good for late night shows

megha choudhary

New in Toronto and the wrong address was on the tickets so ended up half hour late to see David Copperfield. Gino Siskel Reviews

Thank Cineplex Varsity for providing me with an amazing VIP theatre going experience. Great movies, courteous staff, amazing service, felchin and friendly smiles.

John Bolinas

Ambience is cozy and relaxing. Good place to watch a movie with VIP seats, modernized and equipped with the latest cinematic technology. Parking underground could be free if required minimum amount had been spent or met. Watch out for the opening of EATALY in the same complex.

D

Avoid VIP seating, it's a rip off for one and two the seats are pathetic, they are too close to the ground and too close to the row in front and there's hardly any room for long legs, plus if your movie is more than an hour and a half then you are in for one very uncomfortable experience, avoid, avoid, AVOID! I wouldn't have my worst enemy sit through a movie in this theater.

Alexander Khvatov

Cineplex as a chain is dominant in Canada for quality movie viewing. They try to be as attentive and courteous to their customers as they can: case in point, when there was excessive noise behind us in the screening booth throughout the movie, we got reimbursed with free tickets for next time. Unfortunately, you cannot bring your own food and drinks. Overall, customer service: 5/5; facility: 5/5; comfort: 3/5; food on location: 2/5.

Darren Donahue

Great staff. Checked covid passports & ID well so we felt safe while watching the movie. Filled up our large popcorn nice & high just how we like it when we're paying that much!

Vee Vee

For a small theatre there are a great selection of movies, it’s always clean and there isn’t much to complain about. However - I would not recommend going here for VIP.

Sunny Evans

You may consider this “the other cineplex.” I will caution that in certain theatres the seats are poorly raked. Beyond that it’s your run of the mill cineplex inside an underground rich persons mall. The staff are as per usual. I wouldn’t purchase a “snack” outside of popped corn.

Jacqueline Price

Clean, smaller theaters great to see movies. There’s also one of two of the theaters that are the old set up, that are flat (so don’t sit at the back cause your view might be blocked) Manulife centre is also a great location, perfect to hang out before or after movies. The stores & restaurants are great. And 7 West cafe is just down the street if you wanna get good food 24/7 after a late movie. Best and favourite movie theater!

Rachael Whitzman

Never too busy and the theatres are smaller than normal. Good selection of food in the lobby and also a second area to grab more snacks further in the theatre with a smaller line. A bit difficult to find with all the construction going on and small signage but found it after some searching.

Daniel Zhou

Worst CIneplex theatre. The reserved seating seats are so bad that they cant recline more than 10 degrees. The basic ones such too, but are better than the reserved ones.

Y K

Just a regular Cineplex theatre, nothing great or bad. But hidden in Manulife Centre which is actually close to many highrise apartments and condos nearby, it seems much less known than the one at Yonge-Dundas.

Tawseef Khan

The entrance was hard to find as it’s inside the Manulife Centre and there aren’t any signs outside to guide you. We went round the building twice before we found it. The premises are clean and frequently sanitised so it felt nice and safe. You will need proof of vaccination to get inside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Sadly, the choice of snacks is very limited. Only popcorn, nachos, hot dogs and few chips. We wanted to have fries or chicken which weren’t on the menu.

Nancy Ferareza

Please refer to photo attached for parking rates at Varsity Theatre. Varsity theatre is conveniently located on the subway line. VIP and prime seats are the best seating selection to watch movies. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Ryan M

This is my first time going to this location and try out their VIP service. The staffs were very friendly, and they have an excellent customer service. The overall ambiance is great, and is thoroughly cleaned. The food/drinks service is consistent as all the other location I have been to; though the price mark-up is really high as always (but this is not the main reason of my 3-stars review). The reason for my dissatisfaction is the VIP seat. Considering the ticket price is similar to other locations, it is not worth watching VIP here (unless if you got it for free through points/rewards). The seat is almost identical to regular seats with the exception of small table tray, and some extra leg room. Another downside is the screen in VIP Studio #1 is not immersive or wide enough, especially if you are seating in the middle to back rows. However, the sound quality is still good.

Sophia Zheng

Cozy move theatre, perfect for a date! I love how it’s tucked within the complex and the theatre is always super clean!

HARRIS LAM

It is great to come back to watch movies in a theatre after covid19. Though theoretically we are still in the pandemic. The staff is great, they need to check proof of vaccination before entering. I appreciate Cineplex's new marketing campaign regarding "escaping to an adventure". Movies have always been an escape from reality for me since it is the only affordable medium. I appreciate the half prize Tuesdays cost of the ticket as well. Thank you.

Santosh Bukkashetti

Movie experience was great. Good screen, great sound. Seats could be better though. I hated the nachos I bought. Could not even finish half.

Brian

The 70mm projector is installed in theatre 8, which has a TINY screen (seriously, my 'home' theatre which is SilverCity Burlington is nearly 20 years old and its screens are larger). Why bother putting a large format like 70mm on a small screen? They even have the gall to charge a $3 premium to see The Hateful Eight in the format. Tarantino die-hards eager to see the exclusive 70mm engagement are gonna be disappointed when they show up. Hopefully Cineplex will move their 70mm projector to Scotiabank, which has larger screens.

Michael Oliver

Clean and tidy w a larger number of screens than I’d expected in a terrific downtown location. Will be back ????

Gabriel Geller

Very nice theater. I like how hidden and private it is.

Jeremy Clark

Varsity Cinema is an excellent theatre mixing traditional Auditoriums and intimate VIP with in-seat service. With a wide variety of items on the menu and the option of taking your alcoholic beverage into any movie as well as being wheelchair accessable it makes a great night out for all ages. Great for family or date nights. There is also the option to purchase prime seating which is reserved seating in the sweet spot of auditoriums 1 to 6. The only downfall is the construction happening in the manulife building which is said to continue until the end of February 2019 which makes it a bit difficult to find the front door. Located on the second floor. Closest entrance is located on Bay street close to Charles then up the escalator or elevators.

Winston Ho

Theatre 7 and 8 are quite big but the other ones are medium sized. Their VIP theatres are much smaller than normal. There are no UAVX or IMAX theatres. Parking is validated during that week.

Marc S

Excellent Covid safety protocols and great staff! Great to be back at the movies!

Martin Briand

Great cinema except for the fact that some of the rooms are fairly flat, meaning that you might have a person in front of you blocking the screen

Carolyn Frizzle

Saw Hateful Eight there last night and possible the worst viewing experience I've ever had. The theatre was legit 80 degrees, no air circulation. If it wasn't limited release I would have left. Note: this isn't review of the film, that was good.

Max Quijano

The VIP theatres are unbelievably small. the screen size is just plain silly, and the sound is terrible. It defeats the purpose of going to the movies to just be able to have an expensive drink while watching a movie. Theatre number 8 feels very outdated and old fashion. On the other hand the rest of the theatres are very good, great screen and sound.

Bulat Gazizov

A nice and cozy theatre. Not as busy as Dundas, Scotia or Eglinton. The VIP theatres are very comfortable and have a more excluded waiting area with a bar. I stopped going to other theaters.

Samantha Wu

Saw Avengers Infinity War here last Tuesday at the VIP theatre. This is one of the few VIP Cineplex theatres where you can't choose your seats when you buy your tickets. When we arrived we had to choose 2 seats in the front row. Also unlike other VIP Cineplex theatres, these seats did not electronically recline which makes watching the screen in the front row incredibly uncomfortable. You can push the seat back slightly but you also have to keep it pushed back on your own which isn't helpful. My enjoyment of the movie was marred by the pain in my neck from having to look up at a small 3D screen.

George Ayoub

Since they lowered their prices about five years ago, this has become a premium theatre. There are mostly older adults there but they do occasionally place the blockbusters. The commercials, especially the Cineplex inspired factuals and commercials are awful.

Jane Guberman

Too expensive and we watched House of Gucci and it sucked.

Fiona

Went for the VIP experience. Seats weren't that comfy, no foot rests. Arrived right on the hour and were told we were too late to order food from the menu. Rushed through the popcorn stand, only to watch over 10mins of previews (wished the ticket agent had been more aware of the length of preview showings). Meh. Felt just like a regular viewing, nothing special.

William AJ

One of the best cinemas for a date I know! Discount tuesdays make it perfect to pay that extra money to get to sit in two-seat booths where you can order food and drunks straight from the seat. On top of that, the Imax there has 4dx just like Disney! All in all love the place!!

Gregory Light

My personal cinema. Easy to get to with lots of comfortable theatres. Pretty good selection of films. Could go a little more alternative at times.

Richard Pimentel

Forget this theater. Please make every ticket purchased assigned seating, I don't want to show up more than 15min before a movie time and it's already full. Get rid of the very front two rows and give us leg room. This theater needs to grow up, vertically.

Roman Tkachuk

All you can see is the head of a guy in front of you

Christopher King

Aside from currently trying to get all ticket holders to use one bathroom area, which is very risky especially on a weekend, I otherwise love coming to this theater

Bartek Shaarani

Varsity is a good Cineplex theater. It's not great, but it's good. Its VIP theaters lack assigned seating and are pretty obviously afterthought screening rooms (which makes sense, they were added many many years after the theater opened). The other screens are fine (though some are nicer than others).

Jo Go

Watched Argo at the silly 25 seat VIP theatre yesterday. Great movie in a stupid venue. The VIP theatre is small, and smelly. A complete waste of $20. Stay home and get Apple TV (jailbroken) a surround sound system, and have a good time. The extra $5 is not worth it to be in VIP. Good: Roomy seats if you are overweight, and lots of leg space if you're tall. A side table to put your beer and stuff. $3.00 underground parking with validated ticket after 6pm. Bad: Seats have rips, and are are in bad shape. Somebody's head will be in the way if you are right behind them and they are tall. The place smells old. The SCREEN is 1980's small. The SOUND is not the current industry standard.

John Hanna

This should be the premier venue for films in Toronto. But audiences have to endure an endless "pre-show" promotion of such infantile, crass banality that it leaves a sense of hopelessness in the human condition. Stars, though, for a spectacular fish tank in the lobby.

Ajaykumar Kannan

The screens are usually good but there's one or two that aren't up to mark. This theater is less crowded usually in comparison to the other Cineplex venues in downtown Toronto.

Trevor Smale

Thought the VIP price would mean a better viewing experience. I've gone to this theatre 4 or 5 times and now realize it is hardly worth it. I only go for the special format film viewings. They should have assigned seating and cleaners, I would pay more.

Tj Alston

I attended a screening of Portrait of a Lady On Fire here. The film was presented poorly. The images were dim, the theatre lights turned on before the film was over, and the music cut out before the end of the credits. I saw the film at TIFF and it was presented properly. I would recommend seeing the film at TIFF, and all possible films at TIFF. Cineplex clearly doesnt care about the cinema.

Musa Ahmed

Watched in a non vip theatre. Chairs were really comfy and clean. Screen is of course smaller than imax, but the picture quality and sound was on par. The pre show didn't work because of some technical issue, but thank God for that as I don't quite like watching a bunch of ads in theatre on my face. The washroom was clean. There weren't too many people in the Tuesday 12pm show.

John Maynard

4 stars if you're in theatre 8. Older clientèle which you may think is a good thing but instead of a teenager sitting behind you who won't shut up its an adult. I'm glad they moved the ticket tearing further into the theatre but now it creates a line that blocks access to the concessions when they're busy.

Leonardo Ruppenthal

A definite improvement following the recent renovations. The lounge and VIP area is a pleasant place to kill time before a show. Most theatres are comfortable enough, but lack some of the modern design that has elevated cinema-viewing in recent years (stadium seating, reclining seats, etc.). The VIP theatres are very small and not as comfortable as other locations. But service is friendly and reliable.

Spencer Barnes

This is a nice theatre tucked in the heart of downtown. Parking is easy under the manulife centre and it used to be free (not sure if it still is). The VIP cinemas are great but the screens are on the smaller side. So worth it for the "VIP experience" but if you're seeing a blockbuster movie and you want the full effect I would suggest skipping the VIP.

lindamae100

Pretty cool. Comfy, tilting seats, lots of leg room. Wait staff come around to take your food and drink orders. Best to reserve ahead for popular shows, or you may not get a seat. Great shopping downstairs!!

Hillary Mathers

Came here for a movie post-covid and it was delightful! I really appreciate that the greeter at the entrance clearly outlined what was expected of us to ensure everyone was kept safe!

Dru Gheorghe

Typical movie theatre. Docking one star because they ONLY RECENTLY opened up the butter flavouring machine. Apparently it was closed to encourage social distancing which is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Meanwhile the salt and other condiments were open?? Also the butter flavour machine at Eglinton had been opened once cinemas started to operate. This is my only option as a vegan so I can’t get the butter.

stephen bodiam

The Varsity is by far my favorite place to see a movie. You have the option of a vip room. However , I think charging more for select seats in the regular theatres is b.s. just left a show with nobody using them.

Phil Chao

Great theatre in the heart of Downtown Toronto. Good movie selections. Prices are the same as any other Cineplex for the regular movies, unless you're going to the VIP theatres. There is alcohol and hot food served at the VIP section. Staff are friendly and helpful. Popcorn and drinks are expensive but that's normal.

Emil Jayatileke

The best kept secret theatre as theres not even a hint of a Cineplex existing here from the outside. This makes it hard to get to (go upstairs and then upstairs again once you enter the Manulife Centre), but it’s a blessing in disguise ‘cause the result is less crowds compared to Yonge/Dundas and Scotiabank Theatre. Once you finally find it, the experience is great. For a regular price movie, there is assigned seating and reclining comfy seats (at least in Aud#2). I can imagine the VIP is even better.

Brandi Carter

I love this theatre! It’s not huge like some the theatres in the suburbs. It has a really cosy feeling to it....make sure you go to the VIP rooms!

Tricia Green

The seats were very uncomfortable. I am recovering from an injury, and 2 hrs in those seats was painful. Also, we tried to confirm if we could eat there due to the restrictions and was told no. So we rushed to a place to eat in Yorkville then back to the theater. Only to find out that yes, the lounge area was open and we could have eaten there, as we had planned to. Misinformation is not cool. And all of that for a higher ticket price?

Ricky Kim

I have watched numerous movies here. Some of the theater room is great, but some of them (i think theater 8 and 9?) is really big and very low slope that if someone sits in front of you, it will block the screen. I think they have those plastic seats because of this but I found it sticky and dirty. I have tried watching VIP here and the screen is extremely small. So don't watch VIP here. Also, the food and the popcorn taste noticeably worse than the other cineplex theaters. Would recommend if you intend on not eating anything from here and watching in non-VIP theater. Also there's not that many people who go to this theater, so it will be quiet.

krista2377

I like that this theatre is a bit quieter than some of the others and feels a little more like a local theatre (being that it's hidden and smaller) and less like a megaplex. It also plays some of the indie flicks you might not be able to find at yonge and dundas. This location does get busy on Tuesday evenings, however. I'm sure it gets busy on weekends too, but I tend to go on Tuesdays when it's cheaper. Otherwise, Cineplex is over-priced.

Claudia Pawlak

My review here is mainly about the VIP experience. Buy your VIP tickets at another theatre. The good: The servers were incredibly attentive. Our food was yummy and delivered right before our movie started. The bad: The VIP theatres are tiny, which isn't usually a problem, except that the aisles are all very thin which makes it difficult for servers to deliver food and for movie-goers to navigate without at least stepping on a few toes. The seats are a little uncomfortable but not terrible, but the tables are absolutely tiny. Only just big enough to fit a plate of food, while praying it doesn't get knocked over by someone crab-walking to their seat. The cherry on top is the fact that the VIP theatres are located IN the lobby of this Cineplex, with barely any sound proofing. Which means whenever there's a line to get food, or a crowd just entering or exiting a movie, you can hear all the chatter just outside of the door while your movie plays. This was incredibly distracting and something I have never experienced at a Cineplex before. If you're looking to watch a movie at this theatre, don't go to VIP. If you're looking for a VIP experience, visit another theatre.

Michael Desbiens

Not all movies are featured there, the theater rooms are old and the chais uncomfortable. The eating area is small and unviting. The food is terrible. Go to the Cineplex at Dundas and Yonge instead of that location

Phil Vania

Their regular priced auditorium needs a much needed seating update. #8 is huge and sitting in the back looks like you may be watching a tv at home. Seating is all level so one of the pictures is the view at eye level from your seat. Come on Cineplex update this "premium" cinema.

Alexa Dixon

Best theater in the city. It's not overcrowded with little kids running around and screaming. And their VIP section is even better. Alcohol and adults only.

Karan Deep Singh 492

It’s the place you need to visit with your friends as the crowd is really good

Carlos Rojas

My favourite Cineplex. It's never too crowded, easy to access (even during construction time at the Manulife building), and close to an Indigo in case you get there too early, ha.

Victoria Occhipinti

Best chain cinema in Toronto for sure.

Mike Fly

Great theatre. The VIP rooms are a bit ridiculous: the screens are smaller, the sound isn't as dynamic and the "table service" is more inconvenient than ordering at the counter you walk by on your way to the theatre. Maybe if you had a group and wanted to drink overpriced booze it might be worth it... But the regular theatre is great.

anna jung

Clean, comfortable movie theatres and friendly staff. Never seems overly crowded and has a relaxing atmosphere. They sell vegan cookies at the tea/coffee counter - a big plus for the vegans amongst us that fancy a treat

Julie Mccarthy

I don't go to the movies often but coming here made me think I should. The film I wanted to see was sold out so I had to get a ticket for the one 40 minutes later, which turned out to be just fine! I hadn't eaten and assumed I would have to settle for popcorn, but NO! The lounge has a pretty good menu including some vegetarian options so I was able to have some decent food and a nice glass of wine, which I was allowed to take into the movie. There are also comfortable chairs - I mean livingroom style chairs where you can relax while you wait. It was great. More than just a cinema.

Grace Mark

Excellent customer service, knowledgeable movie listing, helpful to general public admission. Comfortable seating for disability area. Good Location

Sstossy

The theatres are tiny. The screen is also very small. Compared to the other VIP cinemas in the city, this one is by far the biggest disappointment.

Vitalii Opekunov

Good place with some rare titles. Staff is always nice and pleasant. VIP seats are really uncomfortable and are not reclining due to space limitations. Cineplex can't fix tapping for mastercard for over a year now, this is almost comical.

David Hosey

Wish the stadium seating setup was better. Too shallow of an incline so people heads in front fet in the way. Sound quality in theater is good so thats why it is a 4 rating vs 3

Rach C

The staff here is really nice and because of the neighborhood, it's quite clean and neat. However, the actual theatres are probably some of the oldest ones. The screens and set-up just isn't as good as other theatres nearby like Scotia and some of the smaller theatres here feel like home theatres

wishtasp vaghefi

Nice and clean However as VIP they need to serve better

Dora C.

This theatre has been consistently clean and tidy during my visits. However, if you happen to be short, you may have your view partially blocked by the person in front of you, because the elevation between seat rows isn't that steep. It's not what you would find in a larger theatre. You may therefore want to consider visiting during a non-peak hour showing instead, and/or pick a seat that doesn't have someone immediately in front of you.

tom stephens

the reserved seat option is a disaster. Several People were sitting that had to be moved. It is so simple. Have an usher at each end of the row with a flashlight and let them check the ticket before the person struggles into a seat and then has to move, causing total chaos and embarrassment. get with it, Cineplex. you are almost there.

Jenn

Great theatres. Meetup with friends for a movie. There is reduced parking fee when you validate your movie ticket located near the entry. There's a handful of cafes and small restaurants nearby. Our favourite is Timothy's. They have a promo card where you buy nine coffee and get the next one for free. They serve very good treats like cheesecake, chocolate cakes, banana bread and grapefruit juice. This is located by the condominium complex, whose residents, I am envious of. Very fancy indeed!

Cal Dree

Great theatre for Limited Release movies often well received by critics and often not recognized by the general public. New fresh selections every week. Great location central to subway system. Validated discount parking and discounted theatre pricing on Tuesdays evenings. Often one of only 2 or 3 spots in the GTA to find limited release movies, and sometimes even the only place in Canada showing a particular film.

Andrew Berg

Overall grest experience but would appreciate more affordable drinks. There is a reason people are starting to stay home and stream so you should do everything possible to accommodate people.

Madison Maguire

My favourite cineplex in the city. On the subway line, has the most screenings of smaller independent films. Can have a drink at your seat.

Rupert A.

A convenient location at the Manulife Building at Bay and Blood. The complex offers discounted parking after 6pm weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays. Please bring your parking ticket since you'LL have to validate it at the theatre. The cinema has VIP as well as regular showings. The waiting area has a convenient lounge with access to coffees, frozen yogurts, regular theatre food and a full service bar. Easy access to PATH and to the Yonge & Bloor subway station.

Douglas Buckingham

2 popcorn a water and a Sprite more Expensive than 2 tickets. Also very annoying was almost 30 minutes of Commercials. Commercials for Products and CBC programming. Only 3 previews for upcoming movies. NOT Acceptable.

Jonathan Braun

This is by far my favourite movie theatre in the entire city! The staff are always so friendly, the facilities are always exceptionally clean, and the small and quite location makes for the perfect movie-seeing environment! I always come and watch my movies here and would encourage others to do the same!

Ilona Biro

Best cinemas in GTA. Parking underground for $3, plenty of food options. VIP cinema as well. And always playing the best movies, no blockbusters, quality, Oscar-worthy shows

Roger Courtemanche

It's like watching a movie in the basement. Small seats and not comfortable. Food and drinks are good but not worth the screen and seating

Patrick R.

Some auditoriums are not angled with stadium seating as is standard across most cinemas. Views of the screen are significantly obstructed by those sitting in front of you.

Sucheta Kamalakar

Don't ever go to a movie in Aud#8. The seating is all pretty much at the same level so if there's someone tall sitting in front of you then you won't be watching much of the movie at all. Back rows are too far from the screen and feels more like you're watching a giant TV. Acoustics are bad.

Emma L

I wouldn't come back here for the vip. They are much smaller than the other newer vip locations like at yonge and eglinton. It's very crammed inside and the seats are not as comfortable. Had to get up to place my order with the server as there wasnt really enough space for them to come and take our orders. It's a waste of money to come here for the vip experience.

Andrea Diaz Varela

I love varsity theatre but have been very disappointed lately by the lack of COVID safety standards. The washrooms were filthy and no mask enforcement in the theatre. Attendants’ lack of concern when reported on my last two visits also a turn off. Sad to leave this review but hopefully positive change will come of it.

Sharon Ko

They validate parking after 6pm if you park underground, so parking was only $3. I love that Eataly and Indigo is within the building so you can shop around before or after your movie. Theatre itself was nice and clean and has more mature patronage due to location, so no noisy kids.

Ms. Ghani

Parking can be validated after 6 PM. We found out the other day when we watched an afternoon movie here and we paid $25 for parking (we only parked for the duration of the movie itself). Asides from that, the theatre itself is decent. The food concession is the basic Cineplex variety (not anywhere like the variety at ScotiaBank theatre or Yonge-Dundas).

Meet Pandya

No directions to where the cineplex is located. Had a hard time finding. Missed 10 minutes of the movie. Bdw its on 2nd floor. Seating is good in some areas and worst in some.

Alexander C

Small quaint movie theatre located at the top floor. You will miss it coming in and like I used the virtual directory to locate it. It has a concession stand like all other Cineplex (but not in service currently secondary to COVID restrictions). The seats are comfy there are no dbox seats. Also, do not expect there to be arcade games because of the size. Overall great experience.

Noor

This Cineplex has the best management and staff. Especially the VIP & Lounge staff - we don’t deserve them, they are exceptional. Each and every one of them. The food is fresh and delicious - I ordered the boneless chicken wings & shrimp popcorn - delicious. Clean, covid safety, and super professional service. This place is magical. Melts my stress away. Thank you dearly! ???????? In these tough times, it’s so important to appreciate and not take excellent service for granted.

Belinda Ip

Smallest vip theater ever. It’s so small, they only have 5 rows and 6 seats per row. Seats are decent compare to the regular vip seats.

Tom Nowers

We saw the depressing but meaningful "If Beale Street Could Talk". It was shown in one of the 36-42 seat VIP theatres. Each row has 6 seats spaced in pairs. You can order very expensive food and drink (alcohol as well) from a menu and they deliver it to your seat. Or you can get the typical non-bargain deal of 1 medium popcorn, 2 medium fountain drinks and a modest bag of M&M's for $29.85. That is Not a deal. But if you ask for exactly the same thing but delete the M&Ms ...its $19.60....which makes M&Ms cost $10!! We found the staff in all capacities very friendly and welcoming. They clean the theatres well and the washrooms also. It can be a fun night out!

Boby Thomas

Very difficult to find the actual theatre..need better signage... The theatre itself was excellent

Lizzie I

very old school feel but not in a good way, seats are packed in and hard to see the screen. Good luck if you are in a busy movie even being able to focus on the screen, since it is so packed if you have any people around you eating you will find it super distracting. Tryout the Cineplex in Etobicoke instead - heaps of leg room and tiered seating so you can actually see the screen

Daya Puls

Once I figured out where it was, it was a good theater, with good sound. There crew were friendly. Note that the building is being renovated so no signs on the outside.

John McDonald

This is a terrific movie theatre complex, with very comfortable, reclining, high-back seating to further enhance your viewing pleasure. It's also one of the cleanest theatres I've visited in a long time.

Marcus Manzosh

I really feel this is the best theatre in the Toronto area because it has great variety in its programming: Hollywood blockbusters, independent films, and art-house pictures. I have been here many times over the years and have always received great customer service but I wanted to specifically highlight the positive experience I had today. I had the checked the showtimes on the Cineplex website two nights prior and found the early showtime for the movie I wanted to watch and came in earlier this morning. However, once I came in I noticed that my desired showtime was no longer available. I spoke to the general manager, Rafiq, and told him of my dilemma. Since the next showtime for the movie I wanted to watch was three hours away, he was kind enough to offer me a courtesy pass for a free movie of my choice. Rafiq was not only kind and empathetic to my issue, but also very kind and personable. He turned a negative situation into something positive and in turn really made my day.

V A

This theatre needs a serious facelift. VIPs are the worst of the entire chain and the regular ones are lacking and falling apart. Take the opportunity to renovate while Manulife is under construction. If you don't, you'll regret it when everything else is shiny and new. Prefer the other locations. #onlygoifihaveto

J May

Good choice of award nominated movies. The theatres are smaller than the multiplexes in the burbs and frequented by a more mature crowd. Service is good and theatre was clean ..no sticky floors

Ross Carrothers

This is our favorite theater in the city! Never too busy, unless it's a weekend evening and very clean. Always get the prime seats if you can cause they're amazing!

Tina Meng

They sell both unreserved seats and reserved seats in the same movie! My friends and I went to January 17th's Little Women (6:30pm regular), and we didn't realized this because there were no seat selection on the website when I bought both tickets. We came in at approximately 5:50pm to find a good seat, and some girls came in at 6:30pm and told us that they have our seats??? This is ridiculous, my friend and I had to find another two separate seats at the very front of the theatre, which was then almost packed.

goyin toronto

Your newly upgraded complex is truly impressive. The audio level during the commercials is overpowering and annoying . Surely Cineplex... and Coca Cola and the Mini car people should realize that. CEO Ellis Jacob and Cineplex should ask audience members what they think about the irritating and LOUD soundtrack during the commercials.

Keith Stickwood

The theatre was fine. Had the feel of most other theatres. It is rather difficult to find inside the tower building. The signage for all shops inside the building is rather poor.

Ryan Chiu

Best imax screen in Toronto

Josua Schöchli

Dune the movie I went to see deserves 5 stars - but I enjoyed the movie DESPITE the cinema. I was sitting bang in the middle of the seats and the screen had a big glare all across the middle section. Looked like it was greasy or had water pearls on the screen, already noticed it during the previews. Really distracted from the experience as it diminished the contrasts. Also the projector itself seems to be really weak when it comes to contrasts, colors and brightness. The whole picture was milky and dull. A shame really..

Amiee Wilson

I went here to see the most recent spiderman movie and it was a hellish experience. I arrived late as I couldnt find the theatre in the mall. There is no signage anywhere in the mall suggesting that there is a movie theatre there. So youll have to wander around and ask for directions. When I finally found it, the team member that was supposed to be scanning my ticket yelled at me and my boyfriend for 10 mminutes. With other team members and the manager standing right there staring. When he finally let us in he yelled at us again, to bc he had to do his job, and let us know where the movie is being shown. I am a frequent cineples vip goer. However, after this experience I can find another theatre to go to.

Edin

Great small theater. Located inside the Manulife shopping center. They validate 2 hours of parking if you see a movie. Underground parking. The seats are super comfortable. Great staff. Picture is of the general parking rates.

Zac shnu

Cleanest theatre floors in the world. Chair wasn't very comfy if your tall

Todd C (TC)

Staff are extremely friendly how ever I don’t know in what world this is considered VIP. The rooms are tiny and the screen is small. They crank the volume way too loud to try to make up for it. You feel like your on an airplane. My knees hit the seat in front of me. The seats don’t recline and when you try they just make a ton of noise.

Mercedes Tripkovic

Great location, my very favourite. I have to make a comment about the VIP yesterday Monday went to watch "The Girl on the train" at 6 p.m. Sat on the 3rd row. Just went there because of the time but it was so annoying the servers passed our row of 6 people FIVE times with drinks, etc. there is not enough space to pass without inconveniencing the rest of the guests and is this reasonable behaviour from either side guests ordering item by item and servers not being more assertive in taking orders at once from each set of guests. There is not enough room to pass with drinks and trays. Besides all this the VIP bathroom was extremely filthy, thought you might want to know and take some action. I have loved this theatre for a long time.

frank mercier

Very disappointed we went to see The lady in a Van two weeks ago on time only to find out that it was sold out .So we went to see Hail Caesar I had asked for senior but was charged full price which I did not notice till later which was fine. Last Sunday we went back early bought our tickets early for the lady in the Van and went for coffee . When we where seated for a while we where told to move as we where in someone else seat so we moved down. Again we where told to move we where in a reserved seat.So we moved down apparently not far enough and by this time the theatre was quite full. Our choice was way at the back or way up front. Both of us having vision problems sat up front which was lousy on your eyes and neck.We have been going there for years but after being treated like second class ticket buyers we will never be back. What a way to ruin a pleasant afternoon..F.J.Mercier The movie itself was excellent.

Carolina Rodriguez

We went to watch Tenet. We were only 7 people in the cinema. It felt safe

A. Ibber

Comfortable chairs and smooth experience.

Seth Dworkin

I lost a book there. Manager won't return my call to check for lost and found.

Andrea Zanin

Best mainstream theatre in the city. Clean, comfortable, nicely laid out. Plays the solid dramas and not (usually) the B-list. Say hello to the fishies.

Janis Weenen

Experience was totally marred by other inconsiderate movie goers. We were in the VIP room watching a fairly intense movie (Vice) and all around us popcorn and candy bags were rustling throughout. Right in front of us a phone kept going off. This person also had a full meal going......bring on Netflix....

Maria Cristina Plastina

Smaller than others. Staff is friendly and nice. Too bad they don't have the capacity to host big blockbuster opening week...it is far too small for those. Otherwise very nice!

Erich B

VIP Theatre was so small it was comparable to a home projector screen size with visible holes in the screen. Unimpressive sound system for a theater and especially for watching a war movie. I'd only visit the larger non vip theatre here. Lots of food and drink options at least but I'd stick to simple staples for food. Truffle fries were extremely salty and dry, and I love salty food.

Ismail Mohammed

Had a really bad experience. Seats are the worse part of this theatre. Screen will be hidden behind others head unless you are 6.2+

Tian Li

Awesome selection of independent and international screenings at this location. Come here for all the hidden gems.

Michael S

REVIEW OF VIP THEATER. Saw "The Big Short" in December 2015. The Varsity VIP theaters at this location are small (30-40 ppl) so there are bigger/better VIP experiences around the City so this is not worth for the price if you have other VIP theater options. Sadly, the screens are also small compared to a regular Cinema but it was okay considering the film we were watching. There is not the leg room nor the adjustable seats that some of the other VIP locations have The clientele are mature which has some advantages. Service in the VIP section was excellent. There is a nice bar just outside for a drink after or before the show that accessible to all patrons of the Cinema

Tiffany Chua

Stay away from the VIP cinemas. The screen is tiny, audio is subpar, the chairs are awful on the back as they don't really recline well and they don't allow reserved seating. For a VIP cinema, it seems to be a far cry from what it's supposed to be. Not worth the price.

J.D.

Typically has a more mature atmosphere vs. other cineplexes and a wider range of films that aren’t all big budget blockbusters. Recommended to people who prefer smaller crowds and don’t mind smaller screens (for some showings).

The fact that you can bring restaurant food into the theatre now is awesome. Definitely makes it compete with a generic Netflix night. Otherwise it’s a pretty standard Cineplex location. I wish snack prices were a little more reasonable

Sergio Lucchini

it is a coll thater but the seat chairs are quite old. the ticket price is as the same as the different theaters in downtown area. I watched " Beatiful Boy "... cool experience

Smallest screen I've ever seen in a movie theater…The VIP theatre's screen is more like a condo's movie theatre screen. You can find bigger prpjector screen in a university's lecture room. The sound so really really bad. Watched Avengers: Infinity War here, and only the front speakers played sound! Don't go VIP here, I'm sure that even a normal theater will have surround sound system.

It's very big. Shows lots of movies. Has a very big snack bar. Can be very, very crowded at times. On the second floor of a great downtown Toronto shopping mall @ Bay & Bloor. Check out the bookstore in this mall.

Maintenance and customer service is great. Will visit whenever I plan for a movie.

The VIP is a bit small and the theatre doesn't have Imax but still 5/5

The cinema auditorium #8 is not so good because the flooring was too level if someone seats in front of you you could not see or watch the movie properly because the person in front of you is obstructing your view.

Love the atmosphere in this place. Very adult only and by that I mean not a huge crowd or overwhelming noise of arcades games like most theatres or kids running wild. The atmosphere feels like you have your own private viewing movie theatre. Friendly staff that seem to all really like each other and feed of each other in terms of team work and presence. In particular one employee I think his name was Gustavo who took the time to review with me the benefits of a scene card, incredibly social kid who engaged with my date and I and recommended food and best seats for our movie. Perfect for a first date as the atmosphere is quiet and small. Next time I’m there I’ll look for this Gustavo employee who had so many movie recommendations.

Have been to the Cineplex Varsity theatre on three occasions recently. Always an enjoyable experience. Friendly staff and clean premises.

A good experience overall but the seats are terrible! They made the whole experience quite uncomfortable

The theaters are pretty flat so if somebody tall sits in front of you it's not gonna be a fun time

Bonnie Kook

I went to see Avengers. Which was in theater 2. The seating is not assigned so first come first serve. Also not many seats I believe there was less than 8 rows. Plus the seating was not very comfortable. The only reason U went there was because the movie was not in 3D. The highlight was the fact the poutine was pretty good.

Pierre-Olivier Bonin

Poor selection of movies. I don't know why this one has so few/uninteresting movies whereas others cinemas from the same company have a much better variety. Both the VIP and regular tickets are overpriced. Only thing good is the Scene points card that compensates a little about that.

Gregory SCHESKE

The entire block is under major construction and renovation. My Über driver did not have any idea as to where to drop us off. The theatres are large and have very comfortable seating.

Nicolas Iguzquiza

If I could give it no stars I would. To put it simply, the VIP is HORRIBLE. Seats do not recline at all and the size of the screen is as big as my tv. This is the equivalent of the imax. They should warn people that this is not a full VIP experience. NEVER COMING BACK AND I'M GETTING A REFUND.

Nice theater conveniently located in Manulife building. Staff friendly. Line ups move quickly and there's a plethora of self-serve machines at the front which is useful on busy nights. Clean. Small theatres.

Felipe Vernaza

Wasteful and tiny screen, the back seats are not high enough so view is blocked. Why would they give water in a disposable cup, plastic cap and plastic straw. I guess they are oblivious of their impact on the environment or simply don't care. Movie was delayed as well.

Very glad that Cineplex is opened.I missed going to the movies. But i was very disppointed that with all the covid-19 protocols requested on the website nobody has checked proof of vaccination from anyone before entering the venue, no photo ID checking like it is mentioned , the guy barely checked my tickets and before the movie started there were people randomly sitting beside me. I wonder if the staff is properly trained to follow the protocols. Something that should be definitely checked.

Went to watch eternals here and the experience is just as you’d expect. Nothing exceptional. Make sure you buy your tickets online to save some time. No workers in front helping you purchase tickets tho. Seems like they’ve switched to a full self serve service for the tickets with kiosks only. This theatre is usually a bit more low key just because of the location being hidden in the plaza so that’s a great thing.

Went to Brooklyn last night in theatre 8 with some friends. Wow, what a funky odor. It was like being stuffed in a closet filled with dirty underwear. The floor was so sticky I had to pull up on my shoes to get to my seat. We spoke to the manager and after several geez, ohs, uhms and sorrys, we went back to our seats. It felt like there was a thick layer of bacteria everywhere so we all sat on our coats and i leaned my feet against the seat in front of me. It was so bad, i took my shoes off before entering the house. No excuses Cineplex. Shame on you. Absolutely disgusting.

It is definately the nicest theatre I've ever been in. Leather seats, ample leg room, lounge. Try it once. Love it forever.

Trevor Pedley

I really enjoy going to this theatre...1) it is in a great downtown location, close to a subway stop; 2) it is a great in-between place to meet someone who is coming from the other side of the city; 3) there is lots of interesting food/meal selections either inside the Manulife centre, or walking distance nearby; and.... 4) the theatre itself is similar to all the newly renovated theatres, and has all the amenities as well.

Went to see Hateful 8 on Saturday (Dec. 26 @ 10:30 pm). All tickets were sold out and theatre 8 was full. The screen is a lot smaller than I expected. Ventilation was not working in that room and the temperature was above 30 degrees. The people were complaining about the heat and the air was so stuffy that it was hard to breathe. The floors were all sticky and obviously haven't been cleaned for a long time. I can't believe the only Cineplex theatre in Canada that can play 70mm movies is a dump!!!

A convenient theatre in the heart of Toronto offering many screens. Easy access by foot if you live or are visiting the Bloor and Bay corridor. Also easy to get to with the subway. The theatre can be very busy with sold out shows especially in the winter months when people don't have much to do so I would definitely call ahead or book your tickets in advance. I have been disappointed with arriving and being told the showtime I wanted was sold out. Snacks are the usual super expensive cost for drinks and popcorn. I think that s where they make their money. The theatre also has a VIP area which is basically a small home theatre size room with a small screen that you pay a hefty premium for and you get a waiter service in terms of ordering your snacks or food. This is really overrated and having experienced this a couple of times I would not recommend this to anyone. Just not worth the price or the so called experience. In fact since ticket prices and snack prices have gone through the roof I have not been a movie theatre patron on a regular basis. I also resent paying a premium to go to the movies and have to sit through commercials as I would watching TV. I just wait for the movies to come to the small screen or watch them on my big screen at home when on DVD.
