Cinema Moderne is the perfect place for a date. You can eat, drink and watch a movie all under one house. The platters are delicious and the beer is top. Remember to buy your movie tickets early and be patient with the service. There are not that many staff and everyone wants a beer just before the movie begins!

I’d give this place a zero if I could. A complete waste of money and time. The website promises refreshments and a full unique experience. We purchased tickets in advance and when we arrived, the bar was completely shut down. No drinks, popcorn, or any snack items for sale. Not what was advertised at all. Overly expensive for just a simple small screen showing international films without service. We requested a refund and it wasn’t honoured because apparently you need to cancel 24 hours in advance, even though nothing was as it was advertised. Save your time and money. We left before the show even started.

With their one theatre room and bar for ordering drinks and snacks, this was a very cozy experience! Their small staff is also very nice and enjoys chatting with the moviegoers. I like how they make a Facebook event for every scheduled movie so it's easy to keep track of what you want to watch. They program many older films that aren't mainstream but will always have a crowd interested in watching them on the big screen.

Really fantastic experience! It's a cinema attached to a cafe/bar (come for one, stay for the other) with a diverse and delicious menu that you can bring into the cinema. The staff are courteous and the vibe is really nice. It has a nice patio in the summer as well. The cinema offerings are equally as diverse and interesting with a good mix of local, international, and mainstream films (some even including Q&A's with the directors!). Be sure to buy tickets online ahead of time as the theatre is small (~50 seats) and fills up quickly. Fortunately there are no bad seats.

I had a fantastic experience here while staying in montreal. We went in for a screening of Memories of Murder which was fantastic. I love the selection of movies they choose, and its clear they are aware of what people want to watch. They even had satantango that day which i unfortunately couldnt go to. Its a small theater, esp with covid, but it was very enjoyable and well spaced out. The cafe in the front sells drinks and some snacks. We arrived earlier to make sure we had a drink but the wait at the counter was way too long. The two poor employees behind the counter were completely overwhelmed. Sincerely the experience is not complete if it is impossible to order a drink, otherwise we would have gone to a traditional cinema. I like the intimate and small rooms of Beaubien cinema for example but this one once at the bottom of the aisle, no way to get out before the end of the film. No comfort. It is possible to bring our glass or a small dish but we are so stuck there that there is no way to deposit anything at our feet or on the side. Frankly the intent and concept is great, with more than interesting programming, but I feel that efforts have been put on the overall look of the place and not on the little details that make the difference. I only wish I had a bad night and it's not like that at all times because I thought it was a lot before I tried it ... (Original) Nous attendions cette sortie avec impatience mais nous avons été malheureusement très déçus de l’expérience globale. Nous sommes arrivés plus tôt pour s’assurer d’avoir le temps de prendre un verre mais l’attente au comptoir était beaucoup trop longue. Les deux pauvres employés derrière le comptoir étaient complètement débordés. En sachant qu’il y a une projection dans l’heure qui suit, il est nécessaire d’avoir plus que deux employés, l’un qui court à servir les gens dans le café ainsi que sur la terrasse et l’autre essayant de faire les cocktails et la bouffe. Sincèrement l’expérience n’est pas complète s’il est impossible de commander un verre, sinon nous serions allés dans un cinéma traditionnel. Une fois dans la salle remplie, un vendredi soir, il est complètement impossible d’y circuler d’aucune façon. J’aime bien les salles intimes et petites du cinéma beaubien par exemple mais celle ci une fois au fond de l’allée, aucune manière d’y en sortir avant la fin du film. Aucun confort. Il est possible d’y apporter notre verre ou un petit plat mais nous y sommes si coincés qu’il n’y a pas moyen de déposer rien à nos pieds ou sur le côté. Franchement l’intention et le concept est génial, avec une programmation plus qu’intéressante, mais j’ai l’impression que les efforts ont été mis sur le look global de la place et non pas sur les petits détails qui font la différence. Je souhaite seulement être tombé sur une mauvaise soirée et que ce n’est pas comme cela en tout temps parce que j’estimais énormément la place avant de l’essayer...

One of my favourite things to do in Montreal. This is such a unique cinematic experience. You enter through the bar and go through a set of black doors at the back to enter the sole theater room. They have lots of movie viewings of unique and hand-picked films. The snack bar is quite limited, only serving popcorn and the bar's menu of food. There are also very few non-alcoholic beverages to choose from. However, we didn't feel like it took away from the experience and we're excited to go back soon!

We drove 30 minutes to go to this place. paid 9 dollars for parking. The movie was sold out, and had been all along. I asked where this was indicated on the web page...Oh, it is there, the employee glibly announced. Reconsulted the site when we got home... Not true. Good ambiance. I like that they have bullet proof coffee, that’s definitely original compared to other places. A bit worried of the amount of black flies flying around their counter during summer time.

Amazing experience. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance as they usually sell out quickly online. People are allowed to bring in a drink while watching the film. Amazing concept and will definitely be going back.
