REVIEWS OF Imagine Cinemas Carlton Cinema IN Dawson

Roan Smith

Great place to watch a movie. Cheaper for tickets than major cinemas

Tyler MacDonald

Small screens, but great staff, nice array of films (not just your box office fare), and clean facilities. Oh, and let's not forget the booze slushies ;)

Mohamed ElFar

Very good cinema in a central location... we went on a Tuesday where tickets are for 10$ including popcorn and a pop... the seats are comfortable and the staff are friendly... the dobly sound in the cinema is not perfect but it is still not too bad... i will more likely go back again soon... it is a good night out and fun to hangout there.

David Pope

Love taking in a movie (or two) on $5 Tuesdays! I get re-fill popcorn & can re-fill it on way home! Theatres are small & intimate. Sit near front for big-screen experience. Chairs are comfortable but don't recline. You must buy your tickets at candy counter...lines go quickly. Usually 20 min. of previews & commercials.

Jackie Moore

great staff, really nice venue. Seats super comfortable and spacious. Much cheaper than a big theatre, and supports Toronto culture.

Zack Young

My new favourite movie theatre. The Carlton seems largely sheltered from large crowds for box office movies but still plays great quality movies. Prices are exceptional and friendly, as are their staff. This location is also an LLBO. Theatres are clean and seats are not too close/far from the screen.

Sam Bentley

Clean, cheap cinema showing first-run movies and cult classics. Serves alcoholic drinks. The catch: relatively small screens and non-stadium seating.

Sass May

Totally not what I was expecting! Moving from Sin City a week ago I guess I'm spoiled by giant, spotless, gleaming movie theatres... It was bizarre and made me feel uneasy... I didn't want to touch anything... Awesome couple playing the piano in a room, and arresting art on the walls (not to everyone's taste) but left me with a feeling I was in "The Shining". Not for me.

Patrick

Love this theater. They have great pieces, they show lots of different types of films, and they're licensed! The theaters themselves are on the small side, but I've never felt like they were overcrowded. Love this place!

Lynn Kwon

Great value, especially on Tuesday. Screens are small so do not expect Imax.

Val B

Only place to see rarely-screened/international titles weekly other than at home Quiet, cheap, clean and I dont feel robbed when I go there, unlike when im at Cineplex.

Hamad Ahmad

Great old fashioned theater, it's a nice change of pace but the screens are smaller than Cineplex.

True Adventure

Screens are smaller but so is the price and they have the best popcorn in town (and they still offer FREE REFILLS). I love this theatre but be warned the screens are quite small. For the big blockbusters go elsewhere but this is a very nice place to see a movie - just pick your seat wisely.

Charlene M

Toronto Black Film Festival kicks off Feb 13 to 18. Check out amazing documentaries short films..feature films ..kids film fest..cultural food am music. #TBFF2019.

Cole McCallum

Intimate venue for movie-going. Nice selection of drinks, I'd recommend the booze slushies.

Jack Harrison

Good theatre, good prices, theatre was pretty small though and the resolution was so bad I could see strange artifacts on screen that distracted me from my experience.

Matthew Kidman

Such a good theatre experience, it feels like you're stepping back 30 years but in the best way. Plus they have slushies.

Gina Webb

Such a great niche theatre! I love that they play a mix of new and old movies and they even throw in some art house! The ticket prices are reasonable, especially when they have their special movies on Sundays where you get the ticket, popcorn and pop for either 6 or 8 bucks!

David Flack

It does have the charm of movie theatres of days gone by, the prices are good, and the selection of movies.

Barbara-Anne Patterson

Love the small theatres....my old stomping ground. I probably have seen over 100 movies there.

Navjit Gill

No frills, small theatres, simple seats, the best popcorn and great experience. Ps, you can partake in adult beverages (just don't be "that guy" and ruin it for others)

Dane B

Small screens but convenient location and reasonable concession stand prices. Cheap Tuesdays are a good deal at $5 a ticket.

SenseiOfSnark

Been going for years and always a pleasure. Easy access and pleasant staff. Theatre screens are a tad on the small size akin to watching TV on a 32". Nothing wrong with that but for the money, you want more. It takes away from grandiose films. Latest seating in theatre 2 was cold and damp to the point of smelling the musky odour from the seats. Not pleasant. Note: And yes, I agree with another reviewer. Focus please. I thought I needed new glasses until I realized the quality of the projection to the latest Star Wars movie just wasn't there.

Reem Morsi

Interesting selection of films old and new, cheap-ish tickets but very basic theatre.

gillian newing

Awesome little movie house with a liquor licence, discount Tuesday nights, small screening rooms and a great selection of limited release and festival films you won't see anywhere else.

Hisham Ayyash

Classical and cozy design. No huge theatres but decently adequate for the price you pay which I believe is the most affordable in the city. It's a 5 star place for people who tend more to simple and classical touches

Martin Fischer

Great prices, cool crowd, casual atmosphere. Theatres are long and skinny, not the best viewing, but okay for the price.

Randy McDonald

This rep theatre on Carlton just east of Yonge offers moviegoers a chance to see a variety of new movies at affordable price with a bit of the glamour of old Hollywood. Recommended for people on a budget.

Bill May

Prices perfect, service great, ambiance wonderful, really good movies AND they’ll store your wallet overnight when it falls out of your pocket and don’t notice! Thank you!!

Alex Shannon

It's a smaller theater that runs big Hollywood stuff and the occasional indie/foreign film. $10 flat on regular nights and $5 on Tuesdays.

Ethan Strauss

Smells a bit funky, rooms aren't the biggest, but cheap and not usually packed. Not sure where for a blockbuster, but great for most films.

Dorothy Lewis

good cinemas at an easy to get to location to catch an art film but the screens are not as large as other 'plexes' running just released films

Katherine Crump

Love this movie theater small but the seats are comfortable

Pearl Chen

Nice, independent theatre. They are small theatres but then it makes for cozy viewings.

Joshua Garber

A welcome change from Cineplex. Their screens may not be as big but I would rather see a movie here for a fair price than whatever Cineplex is charging these days.

Eli Wipe

Great movie selections and cheap prices, if you enjoy going to the movies on a budget.

Paul Wuertz

Some of you who are under 25 or so may not realize that stadium seating wasn't standard in movie theaters until the late 90s. Carlton is old enough that its theaters are flat, so you might not be able to see over the head of the person in front of you. So while the Carlton does show weird foreign movies that you won't see at Cineplex like Turkish Star Wars, keep in mind that you might not be able to see the subtitles.

Amber Evans

First time at this imagine cinema and I really liked it here. The tickets are cheaper than cineplex but the theaters aren't as nice as cineplex. I saw Godzilla 2 and the theater itself was really small and the screen probably the smallest …

Caelan Melanson

Don't expect anything too fancy from this theatre. But for the price, it's pretty good. They've got 5 dollar Tuesdays, and who can complain about that?

Martine Jeudy

Not bad. You can buy the ticket at the same countet you take your food. ..... if onky they could improve on the latter ????

Johnny Zed

It's a small, old school theater, but it has huge heart and character. Watch for classic films, indie movies, festivals, and the Midnight Society's midnight madness!

Celeste Mastronardi

A little overpriced for what you get. The theatre is very small, it makes for a very intimate viewing experience if you're into that. Personally, I prefer not to hear the people around me but the theatres are so tiny and the sound is not very loud. Definitely was not expecting that. Had a pleasant experience other than those things, the theatre quality itself was fine.

Mengyi Zhou

It’s a place where you can feel something more real. Love the variety of movies, love the small cinema feel. It’s temporarily closed, please keep alive!

Luis Pulido

I've been used to go to Cineplex since I arrived to Canada, but this Imagine Cinemas has nothing to envy to Cineplex. I went last week to watch a movie and everything was great, quiet people, the screen was good and sound amazing for the size of the theatre. I'm definitely going back every time I want to watch a movie in the theatre.

Simmon Li

Great value, and the popcorn was good. Place seemed to be a bit understaffed for the evening rush when I went, but hey, it's $10 a ticket...

Omer Akirov

The 5$ Tuesday is awesome, we have small kids and it’s a shame to pay full price if they might want to leave at the middle... The cinema itself is small and pretty old, also the screen (at least the one where we were) is small. It is cozy but nothing fancy so if you’re looking for a more hi tech cinema I won’t recommend this place.

Ryan Couldrey

Good place to go if the movie you wanna see isn't playing anywhere else (they run a lot of rep cinema and indie film), but probably the worst screens I've seen a movie on in the city. Everything looks hella pixelated. Same price as anywhere else.

Bill Malyk

Such a great cinema! Super friendly staff, amazing prices, and you can even buy liquor/beer/wine and drink it in any seat, not just a V.I.P. situation like at other cinemas... They play new stuff, and old cult stuff too, even have film festivals and special screenings. Nobody else in Toronto is stepping up as much as these Imagine Cinema folks! Btw that’s right, it’s NOT owned by the evil Cineplex corporation so I try to see all the movies here that I can, and that way I sleep better at night knowing I am not putting money in the pockets of those rich and powerful people that are trying to ruin culture in Canada by running monopolies. Really hope they improve the sound system at this theatre someday, but it sounds very good so I’m not complaining!!

Bentley Ball

I've loved this place from the time I first moved to Toronto in '85. It was simply The Carlton then and I believe part of the Cineplex Odeon chain. Anyway, the great thing about it was that they screened more films geared towards cinephiles than most of the other theatres at lower prices than regular theatres and than what they'd be during the festivals. Even better, they had Twoonie Tuesdays, when all movies were only two dollars! I'd go with a handful of change and watch two or three movies, and still be able to afford popcorn and a pop! Now as Imagine, which I believe was formerly Rainbow/Magic Lantern, they still have the discount on Tuesdays, but it's gone all the way up to five dollars! ???? Ya, I actually have to break out paper money! (Is there a sarcastic emoji?) There are drawbacks; some of the screens are small, and they rarely offer 3-D much less IMAX, but who cares? They're licenced, and beer has the power to make just about anything alright! Cheers!

Abdul Al-Basith

The price is very reasonable. The screen is a bit small and the sound is fine. Honestly it's alright watch a movie there. Sucks that there's no recliner in this theater

Cole Thorsen

Great nostalgic feel to the theatre, lots of opportunities to see limited release films too which you might not see other places.

Pablito Greco

Overall you will have a great experience there, especially if you go with your friends. It is great that Toronto offers this kind of alternatives for movie theaters. Pros ans cons below. Pros: Great location, friendly staff, Bulk store near, good prices, friendly atmosphere, beers, pop corn free refills, many retro movies playing through the week, genres for all tastes. Cons: small to very small theater rooms ( some times can be annoying ), no coke free refills like cineplex.

Ian Payton

A very comfortable theater for watching movies and the popcorn rates are pretty good too

Jesse McMullen

Always great, cheap and unique selection of films. You can catch alot of horror that isnt released at Cineplex here in limited runs.

Jon Yazer

This is one of the last remaining, and best, independent movie theatres in Toronto. Affordable, great selection of smaller critical favourites and big box office hits, nice staff, solid bar and classic concessions, central location… why are you watching movies anywhere else?

Joshua M

A little drab, but well maintained. No sticky soda on the floor, and the seats are clean. One of the screens had some kind of a puncture where light shone through which was a bit distracting, but was quickly forgotten once the film was underway.

Lawrence Dutchession

Great place for $5 movies on Tuesdays. If it is your Birthday you get in free for any movie showing.

Pedram Mehraram

I really like imagine cinema saloons. Very clean, super comfortable reclining chairs. May favorite spot on Tuesdays

Troy Bush

I didnt enjoy the experience with the staff. I purchased my tickets online and went to show my tickets on my phone I had to line up at the snack bar . The the staff member grabbed my phone out of my hand when I showed her that i needed tickets printed out .at least she could have asked instead of grabbing it....Like WTF I purchased my tickets online not to have to line up .

lucass

hello dear moviegoer , this movie theater is ammazing the room are a bit small than the others cinema but this one i very like it , you can bring you own food if you want (without exaggerating of course)you can also by there and tuesday all movies are at 5 bucks with taxe and tips ect lol every thing , and they are less people .(not old movies, recent movies )

Charles Blaquière

Icky popcorn. Good selection of first-run and repertory films. Great community vibe. Note: they no longer offer free movies on your birthday.

Radu Samoila

Nice little theater. It's clean, staff is nice and friendly. The theater is of an older design hence that reflects in the size of the rooms, chairs and room shape/design, but prices are also scaled to match :D. Just keep in mind that parking at time of review does not seem to be included, hence depending where you park that will be extra on top of the ticket. G Pay is accepted.

Fábio Dias

The screens are not gigantic (the other reviews are correct in pointing the similarity to a classroom), but the place as a whole works really well and it is very well maintained.

Kevon Rose

Was there tonight with my kids, the staff were great, the guy at concession counter and the usher, equally pleasant. Definitely gonna frequent this location.

Janet Rose Nguyen

Love this local theatre, there is wine and beer and delicious popcorn. They play the big hits as well as indie flicks and have great retro screenings. The only thing is that it was recently bought by a new company and no longer offers student discounts :(

Cat M

Great theatre that also has film festivals.

Saman Lagzi

Love it here! The price is cheaper than most other theaters and they usually have independent movies that most other theaters do not have.

Tiffany Cariaga

Older cinema. They have small screens in each theatre and the concession stand is very basic. They have a piano in the atrium that some people play when waiting in the lobby

Stephanie Lear

I love movies here, classic style although they are small theatres they are beautifully inexpensive.

Natalie

Fantastic old school cinema. They show old classics and I have the pleasure of watching The Room. It was great fun and they encouraged us to throw plastic spoons at the screen. I will be returning to watch the 80s classics.

Owen Smith

Nice, clean, quiet cinema. Good selection of new movies. Decent price. Some screens are bigger than others. Never very crowded.

David S.

Nice lobby, friendly staff, cool events. Best of all inexpensive, mind you it's a small screen but the sound system is good. Big movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Hunger Games not there in the first week is kind of a pain however.

MEXICO SABORES Y COLORES

Great place to see movies on 5 dolars tuesday teather is small clean medium and the rooms are small but good for the price pop corn and everything else is spensive like the other regular movie teather but come and have fun lots of option for everybody remember 5 dolars tuesday are great hope u loke my reviwe thanks xoxo

Sarita Colvin

The Carlton Cinema was the home of the TBFF this year. Their staff was courteous and the refreshments were good. Be mindful as to where you pick your seat in the theatre. It's an older one so the incline is not so great and you may not be able to view your movie without neck strain.

Peter Nguyen

Great cheap movie alternative. Beer is quite expensive, but that is probably what keeps the place in business. The screens are small and rooms are cozy.

Caitlin Robson

This is my favourite theatre to watch movies. Chill Staff who are great to talk to. Great prices. Interesting selection of films Friendly, neighbourhood type of hangout that the kids from Stranger Things would have gone to if they had lived in downtown Toronto instead of wherever they live (poor unlucky 80s kids!). If you're sitting near the front, the screen isn't too wide to see all the action on both sides of it at the same time. The explosions are loud enough to shake you to your emotional core without deafening you-- they play The Room once a month! Plus lots of other new community events that I keep learning about. Beer list is not up to date, but the selection is still rad, and nobody has managed to fix gravity so it pulls the butter all the way through your popcorn-- but if any movie theatre can fix it, it's this one.

g blekkenhorst

I love this theatre. I don't drink but my friends appreciate the beer selection. The staff is always nice. I like the smaller theaters and appreciate that it's less of a hike to get into than all the Cineplexes downtown when my mobility is low. The decor makes you feel like you're seeing a movie rather than attending a theme park. I also like visiting the Bulk Barn on the way in.

Drew Moyes

Good place to see a movie ... Especially on Tuesday its $5 ... Never too many people in theatre

kanchan m

Cheap movies, older cinema, small screens. Clean. "Retro" ads before most films. Many of the theatres have only one aisle on the side - so seats against the wall are hard to get to. If you want to avoid people crawling over you and you don't have a tiny bladder - sit at the wall side. If you sit at the aisle, don't get pissed off if people need to crawl over you to get to the seats you are blocking. There is only one aisle. Reasonably priced concessions. Public piano available to play in the lobby.

Sudhir Suru

Value for money! Tuesdays are just irresistible. Not very grand, but if you just want to watch movies with pop corn then this is the place.

R H

Tried to buy ticket in today noon, but online only sell tickets for tmr….Used two different numbers called them4 times No one pick up. ridiculous

Nilton Silva

The place is so comfortable and welcoming! People are friendly and the "rooms" are small, clean and pleasant. The prices are another attraction: up to $10 for adults most of the days; combos with special prices for students on Mondays and Wednesdays (Student ID needed); only $5 on Tuesdays; you can buy tickets at the terminal and on the Internet as well. 3 min from College Station.

Andrew Ng

Cozy, indy cineplex with character. The staff are always pleasant, auditoriums clean and seats are comfy. Sure it doesn't have the snazzy 3D or latest technology but it has charm.

Keith Nunn

Cheap and cheerful, especially on a Tuesday. I love coming here for films. Easy to just do on a whim because it's so reasonable and there are a variety of choices from silly pop junk to more arty.

Chris Koy

Awesome venue very cool little theatre that feels like it is ran by true movie lovers.

Tanzeel Merchant

Great little downtown location with some excellent films, including hard to find films as well as the more popular ones. You can rent your own cinema for events too at very reasonable rates. Lovely, sweet and helpful staff. It's a no frills …

Genxtasy 99

Great location. great prices. the staff are friendly. they show both big budget films not all though. and the smaller films other places might not show. the big budget films they dontshow at release go there after a month or so. so if you want to see said movie again this a great place. I've seen infinity wars and deadpool 2 here after seeing it already . highly recommend

Ina Anreiter

I really like this cinema. It's pretty small and usually not crowded. They get the big blockbusters a little later, but they have some nice alternative movies, and they are a lot cheaper. Also, they are licor licensed! But don't get the cocktails, they as gross.

DOUG MCKIBBIN

I love this theatre. Great staff always an interesting selection of movies. Convenient to the subway. Cute Japanese restaurant right beside the theatre. I don't know why they have seat selection now, seems totally unnecessary. They used to have a piano in an open area but unfortunately that is gone now. Still a great place to see a movie!

Emily Rose

I'd give this review a 5 star, as the people are so nice, and I love the smallness and close feel of the theatre. However the ticket prices were higher than I expected for a small theatre, and it felt like they didn't turn the heat on in the whole building. It was so cold!!! But having said that, I can't wait to go back to this throwback theatre :)

jenna mullins

Affordable friendly staff great location and fantastic films will be returning soon????

Sharon

Attended Toronto Black Film festival here! Enjoyed it! Nice, clean, friendly venue

Stéphane Fernandes

I don't pay too much to watch a great movie and I have a great experiences.

Cip de Vries

I love this theatre. To me it's much more fun than going to a huge Cineplex theatre, and much less expensive, and it's hard to beat $5 Tuesdays!

Saija Fantauzzi

Tues only 5$ for a movie. Bit older movies but still not out on dvd. Good for ppl on on a budget

Yiqi Shen

Amazing staff. The place is really clean. The screen is a bit small but the overall atmosphere is awesome.

Kathryn Flett

All tickets are $5 on Tuesdays! Any other time adult tickets are only $10. Smaller theatre by seats are staggered so short people can still see. Popcorn, nachos, candy and Andrea coktails are on the menu. Smaller menu for food compared to a megaplex but cocktails are available with a VIP ticket

Frank Uccello

Brings me back to my younger days. It was fun. Enjoyed watching a film and it very clean

Alen Xhafa

Great location, cheapest movie tickets in the city, extensive movie choices (indie films particularly), amazing popcorn, kind service, and a $5 entrance on Tuesdays, there is nothing that should hold you from supporting this cute, old-style movie theatre.

Tua Hytönen

Movies are only $5 on Tuesday's! Always love coming here and they usually have a really good selection of movies.

Sara Hasan

Although the prices are very affordable, this was the worst experience I've ever had at a theatre in Toronto. There was absolutely ZERO ventilation in the theatre. I am very climatized to warm weather, so I can typically handle hot; however, there was no air flow whatsoever where my seat was. It was SO bad that I almost had a head stroke in the theatre.

Clem Moudiongui

Small, but mighty. The ticket prices are very fair, and so are the snacks. never again will you feel your wallet crying while going to the movies.

Andrew Mack

Licensed cinema and low tickets prices. All I have to do is wait a couple weeks and they get all the major films. Now that Cineplex has raised ticket prices to cover the new minimum wage they can suck it. I will go to the Carlton from now on.

Kebrit Films

The saloons are small, and the staffs are not very friendly, i asked a question from a girl that has a badge on her clothes, but she didn't answer friendly (although i understood later she works for coffeeshop there)

Ed N

Staff was great, theatre clean and in good repair and price can't be beat on Tuesday night. $5 admission, $8 medium combo (med drink and med drink) with options to upgrade to large made for a very reasonable night out. The projection equipment and sound system were also superb. It would be 5 stars but the reality is that the screens are smaller than most, but scaled appropriately to the size of the theatre so not a real issue, but not the same as the more expensive larger theatres.

Eileen Giles

Cute theatre! Definitely not a cineplex, but it’s way cheaper! Always a goood experience when I’ve been, however lines can be a bit long so get there early. Good seats in the theatre and free refills!!

Hsing “Sheen” Liang

I've been to this theater many time and will continue going. Service is quick, latest movies are playing and the price is great! Couple of things about this theater: screens are smaller than Cineplex theaters but definitely gives you the cozy atmosphere and there is NO IMAX experience.

Gowtham Parasuraman

Extremely crowded than Market square. But very convenient and closer to the subway. Audis on the ground floor so your phones will have network unlike -2 in market square

Shawn Addicott

Great place to see a movie, affordable and if you go at the right times (Monday afternoon) it's like your own private cinema.

Eileen Watson

Good movie selection. Cheap tickets, especially on Tuesday. Great employees

Dawn Chandler

No issues with this place. A variety of movies. Not too busy, except on Tuesdays when it's $5.

Afshin Rahimi

Love their friendly environment and prices. It is a great combination to catch up with the latest movies while spending the minimum amount of money.

Mike de Raaf

Aggressively affordable ticket prices. The Carlton also hosts a large number of small film festivals and cinema clubs. Their diverse screenings make up for the small screens and cramped seating.

Sat C

Small movie theatre. 5$ Tuesdays are awesome. The concessions are reasonably priced too. The movie Halls are fairly small.. about 80-100 seaters I guess. The audio and screens are average quality. Don't go there for Avenger type of action movies, but perfect for RomCom or Drama movies.

Dmitri P

Saw Terminator Dark Fate in around 2019. Good atmosphere; not crowded. Great alcoholic refreshments.

Ryan Tremblay

If you don’t like Imagine then you need to check yourself. I hope this place never closes. They give love to our local film community.

A A

It's pretty good! Decent price and can't go wrong with that. Show times are limited however and the cimima feels a bit small but over all it's good! Recommended!

Jordan Fine

Can't complain about $5 tuesday movies! Screens are small, but its a great intimate environment place to see comedies, romances and other non-blockbuster non-3D films.

Cliff Bailey

It's a groovy little theater that celebrates film! From the biggies of Hollywood to the indie shorts, they've got it all! And tasty food and booze!

Steven Goldberg

Let's applaud their holding quality independent movies over for weeks! But I was furious about how inconvenient the bathrooms were to find. Literally a full city block away from the theaters.

Robert Baker

Super client friendly and inexpensive. Interesting movie selection in downtown Toronto. They still offer refills of large sizes!

Jack Griffiths

Nice little independent cinema, butter tastes really good for some reason. Chairs are super comfy.

Michele Marques

I ❤️ the off-beat films that you can see at this location. This theatre rents screens for a price that's reasonable for indie film groups to hold showings. I'm a fan of the Wildsound Feedback Film Festival, which shows short films on Thursday nights. I wouldn't come here for general commercial fare, as the screens are small and the seats are old. Sometimes there are air conditioning problems in summer. 3 stars for the theatre itself and 5 stars for the movie selections.

Addison Wanlass

Despite being a small theater, I really enjoyed it. Staff was very friendly and the theater itself was homely. Smaller screens and comfy seats was a nice change of pace.

Ashley Waekens

Great moviea. Often plays the classics and alot of the new movies. Tickets are pretty low priced as well compared to the big cinemas. The theatres are a bit small and old but that gives it more charm. And the are licensed... Need I say more?

Andy Wang

Great little theatre with more reasonable prices for admission and good. Smaller screens contribute to a local feel.

Shruti Kunke

Awesome price! Cosy little theatres, slightly old-fashioned. Excellent value for money. Comfortable seats. Reasonably priced snacks (compared to other cinemas).

Andrew Oosterhoff

This is a great theatre! If you're looking for a typical large-theatre experience, this is not it. …

SUPERBEIGE

BEST CINEMA IN TORONTO HANDS DOWN This place deserves the support it needs to give Cineplex a run for their money. Does lots of interesting mini festivals & re-runs alongside new releases. Bar, good candy selection, and there's an intimate little Japanese restaurant next door if you're feeling peckish. Really a hidden gem.

Akemi Nishidera

The air con wasn't working and the theatre was really stuffy and hot. Aside from that It's clean, not flashy and has a nice cafe area.

Andrew Kelm

The only downside is the audience -- people cannot seem to watch a movie nowadays without talking and I think that may be more annoying in the small screening rooms. I don't know what management can do about that, but it is so annoying I may have to stop going... I don't know -- maybe a few big signs that say "This is a traditional movie theatre. Talking is not permitted during movies" ... Maybe there is a cute and clever way to get that point across and still be amusing. I had to change seats three times last night to try to avoid talkers; at one point I found myself near an old guy who was talking TO HIMSELF! I despair for the human race... Other than that, the Carlton is great. They have a great selection of movies, high-quality sound / image, friendly staff. It's cheaper than the bigger chain -- I can even afford the popcorn! You can drink beer... And they have somehow managed to turn a tacky 70's design nightmare into a comfortable neighbourhood space.

Conor Hamilton

Great mix of movies here and reasonable prices, especially on Tuesdays. Prefer going here over larger, busier cinemas in the area.

Angel Campoverde

I really don't mind about the small theatre, actually I prefer it like that when I go to see a movie. But letting go inside a drunk Russian man who didn't stop talking loudly during all the film? Besides as the person in front of me didn't let me see the movie I had to put my head against the wall, the next day my ear and my forehead were red because I had to scratch probably because of the contact of my skin with those walls. I won't go back to this place again...

Alim Visram

Got to watch a movie for free on my birthday! The staff are always friendly and down to earth. There are not many places like this around!

Ankit Curchorcar

love being in this retro theatre, feels great to watch some international and indie flicks on a small screen in a small room where it's not too crowded and the tickets are decently priced as well :)

Marianne Fedunkiw

Great films at the Ukrainian Film Festival. Stolen Princess is bewitching with fantastic animation. Volcano and Wild Fields showcase the beauty and bleakness of eastern Ukraine. Next to see is TIFF 2018 entry, Donbass.

The Red Pill

Worst experience I have ever had in a cinema. The seats were wet, we moved of course and the other seats were covered in popcorn, we continued looking finally we found another seat in a bad spot. after a while the room felt like it was getting hotter. NO VENTILATION. awful place

S Brown

Location The Carlton Cinema on Carlton Street, which means College Street, the street was named Car, because of Massey Ferguson, who made machines and twists a bit, like a speedway. Please don't speed, we are walking to the movie. Anywho, ... Getting their from transit. To get to it from College Subway station (train station) go upstairs to the street, walk slightly downhill away from Yonge Street, and towards brown stairs. Go up the stairs across from a huge black towering condo that is 21. If the door is locked, you arrived in between movies, as I did, knock on the door, or call them on the phone. The number of the place is on Google, choose, their website, Imagine Cinemas Carlton Street, on Google Maps, then the website. You must show photo ID, and proof of COVID shots You can pick your seat, like a jet. If people are talking on the steps, after the movie, they might have seen your movie. Cool theatre, very into films, related to the LA film stuff, funniest be quiet pre video, and ABCD quiz, on the coming soon clips that are funny sometimes. Exiting, The night bus on Yonge St. runs all night, so late shows are not a worry. I think there is a discount on Tuesdays. Martin Crawford

This theatre is so old-school-retro that it's worth a visit simply to see (or remember) what "going to the movies" reaaly meant back in the day. Small or no lineups, affordable snacks,, interesting movie selections...FUN!

Djordje Filipovic

This was an unexpected five star experience. Usually these small theatres smell funny and / or have poor ventilation. But not only is this place super clean, it is also cheaper than the competitors. Yes, the screen is a bit small, but the picture quality itself is good, and the cinema is not crowded so you can sit wherever you want. I love it.

Sarah Ab

Pretty easy to get tickets, and you don't have to go early to get good seats. It's also cheaper than more popular cinemas, and has student discounts.

Justin Lam

Love the atmosphere. It's one of the only smaller theaters I still know of. The price is right, and the service is great. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll love it.

Jessie Sandra Ferguson

Its a really good place to see a movie with your kids for a low price and Tuesday adult an child are lowered too.

Michelle Bromell

I loved the intimate size and "days gone by" charm if the Cinema. I will definitely be going again. The prices for admission and concessions are amazing.

DaveOverThere

Awesome theatre. Smaller than cineplex but great for film that you don't want to see as a 'spectacle'. Price is awesome - and taxes included in advertised prices is sweet.

HARRIS LAM

It's a great little charming movie theatre with an amazing movie selection. Not only mainstream blockbuster movies are shown but also little unknown independent movies as well. They've been showing the movie "The Room" from the great filmmaker Tommy Wiseau, which James Franco's "Disaster Artist" movie is based on(which coincidentally, was shown in this movie theatre also). They also provide a special promotion for teachers(middle and high school, I assume), where a teacher can reserve a room for at least 50 students for 11CAD per student which includes popcorn and a drink for a movie field trip school activity.

Dilini Kurukula

$5 on Tuesdays. Not sure fancy theatre. Less of the high school crowd with more alternative film selection = an enjoyable time.

Gilbert Yew

Nicely priced tickets, though not as classy as Silvercities with all the fancy IMAX. However, it is a very good place for all time favourite movie time, surprisingly tax was calculated i guess for the whole ticket. I watched The Ghost in Our Machine, great doc.!!!!

Laurel

My experience here was one of my best as a frequent movie attender. The staff was incredibly friendly, the small theater gave it a cozy feel and it wasn't as ridiculously frigid as countless other cinemas. It would definately be my first choice if I was ever looking for movie to watch downtown Toronto.

Charles Allen

Great deal for a movie - $5 Tuesday. Comfortable seats and nice small theatres.

kristin tran

The theatre is incredibly small. I remember my first time coming here I was completely taken aback on the size of the screen compared to other theatres', but got used to it after a few minutes into the movie. The prices are cheap though. The only con I can think of is the location of the booth for the movie tickets--it's combined with the food vendors. If you arrived late to buy tickets before your movie starts, you'll be missing first few minutes of it because people are purchasing popcorn.

Jennifer Forrest

Love coming here to watch a movies! There is something so charming about this theatre and the price is so affordable. The atmosphere when watching a horror movie here is perfect. There is something about the small rooms that make horror movies extra scary!

Cassandra DeStellis

Good cheap theatre if you don't mind a small screen, mediocre sound quality, flat seating, and a high likelyhood of people talking throughout the movie. I mind all of those, so, I won't be returning for any movie I want to experience properly.

mikhail amyn

This small local theatre is really the epitome of the classic movie experience. No flashy screens or insanely priced concessions. Just a great group of people, working to put on both the newest films, and cinematic classics.

Sheniz Meghji

Honestly I love this theatre. I come here all the time whether it's on my day off or after work. They have super reasonable prices. On Tuesdays it's even 5$. Take in, you can get a ticket, a popcorn and a drink for 12-14$! They even have specials for students on Mondays and Wednesday's. And if you go on a regular day it's a 10$ ticket which is still a good price. The staff is really nice and helpful and the popcorn is good. They don't have real butter but they have an alcohol license so you could get a vodka slushie and forget about the fake butter. They play blockbuster, indie, and classic movies. It's such a wide variety that you have to keep updated with their Facebook page so you don't miss any cool screenings. I guess the only thing that people would say isn't great about this place is the seats and the actual size of the theatres. Which, in my opinion aren't the worst seats. And I enjoy the smaller theatre experience. It's one of those situations where you get what you pay for. They lack in comfort but they make up for in every other aspect of running a movie theatre.

Namrita Harchandani

Its a tiny little cinema right in downtown. Its like watching a movie in a home theatre. Its not meant for big new movies but would make for a nice cozy date night.

Karlee Bamford

I love this theatre. Always have an interesting selection of films, old and new, block-buster and indie.

Craig Daniels

Awesome little cinema with a lovely home feel. Licenced to serve alcohol and they have cheap movie night on a Tuesday.

Matthew Duncan

Great place to go if you find yourself downtown. Theaters are small with no stadium seating, but the staff is friendly.

Coleston Pluzak

I love this movie theater. It's a gem. They play indie stuff, they play international movies, on tuesday nights you can see a movie for 5$. You can order beer. The popcorn is only moderately expensive, not completely outrageous. I got to see my favorite movie of all time, The good the bad and the Ugly here on the big screen in all it's glory this summer. They played it good and loud too. Such a special place, it's awesome. When I was a young man I ran into an ex who was working the ticket booth. LOL. Tons of memories at the carlton. What a classic place. When I lived nearby I'd go see a movie every tuesday, it was the best.

CharlyDeamen

First time going there. Loved it. Someone else said it, but the bathrooms are a little far, so go ahead of movie start. That aside, nothing beats their ticket prices, and the seats were comfy! Also, I love the fact that I did not walk out the doors with a surround-induced migraine, like I normally get at the bigger places. So that's a winner for me! My mom and I will definitely keep this cinema on the top of our list of places to go when there is something we want to watch.

Candid Contributions

Love this quaint lil Cinema. It's cheaper than the rest. You get a refill on your large popcorn. They're licensed so you can have a bevvy while you catch your favorite flick!

Tony Tedesco

forego the fancy big feature theatres for this intimate movie house. take in a currently running movie or a classic. Great deals and promotions.

Joe S

Cheap tickets but I've never seen a movie screen so small. The best thing is that they also play B movies, cult classics.

Jonathan Yim

Very quaint place! I like the old school feel of the place. Plus they show old movies like Terminator. The theatres are like home theatres which is definitely a unique experience. Would definitely come back!

John Riordon

Smaller and intimate cinemas provide a very pleasurable experience. Very reasonable priced tickets and concession. I paid $21 for a ticket, large popcorn and large drink with a large twizzlers. With free refills, that's insanely cheap. Casual pianist in the lobby added a classic touch. Staff was very friendly and personable.

Sarah M

A cozy little theatre with great prices and popcorn. A completely different atmosphere than the big theatres. I will always choose Carlton Cinema over the other theatres if I can.

Julian Gray

Amazing cinema. No it's not state of the art but this place feels original. I miss the open piano they used to have a the front. I used to get there early and listen to people play before the show. Also it's very affordable. Keep these places alive!

JEHO KIM

I go every month to see movies. Ticket price is very reasonable.

Jorge Carrasco

No 3D or anything fancy but great old theater... Note that adults are only $10 and they have boozie slushies... Can't go wrong

Florian Buchholz

Smallest room for a late movie. It's nothing fancy but it's clean and does the job. The staff is nice, everything looks a bit old, but not in a antique kinda way. But for 7$ I am not judging too hard. Movie was awesome.

Kimberly Viveiros

I love coming here because the experience seems much more intimate. It's an easy experience to order tickets and snacks and not as chaotic as your local Cineplex. I love Carlton.

Madison Joyce

Great, way less expensive than a commercial theatre, but they often don't have some of the bigger current movies

Carlos Gardeazabal

This theatre is so soft, they're afraid of offending their employees with a movie they have the right to not watch. Hope they suffer a loss in sales.

Bartek Shaarani

The Carlton is such a great little theater. The kind of theater where the staff will talk to you about the movie you're about to see or recommend movies insightfully if you're undecided. The popcorn is great and fresh, and I'm always pleased with their movie selection. They offer a variety of films, whether it's the latest big budget comic book adaptation or a smaller Canadian feature.

Parker Johnston

The mecca of retro cinema in Toronto. Great atmosphere and decor with loads of vintage posters, and home to priceless cult-film screening nights with loads of colour added by the enthusiastic hosts and screening-room-sized audiences. Every movie junkie should go out of their way to catch a classic here at some point - after one visit I was hooked!

Rizwan Shirazi

Lots of free screenings and events. This is a gem for indie, classic, or alternative cinema fans. Don't miss the monthly screenings of The Room.

Stacey Copeland

I've been going here for years. I used to love it here when it was a rainbow cinema. But now they've taken away my share bags and are trying to charge me $5.50 for an additional bag so my partner can have her white cheddar stuff (I think it tastes like armpits). Why not try to make money off selling the plastic bags you used to have? .50 cents or $1 even? All your food prices have already gone up which I've accepted as changing times but c'mon what happen to customers first and that friendly human touch? It's a sad sad day.

Pamela Min Hou

This little neighbourhood cinema is such a gem; clean, great customer service, lots of movie options including blockbuster and indie. Also, they serve wine and beer <3 ;)

Gnomze

I love this theater in downtown Toronto. One of the best things that they have, and they had long before the VIP experience in Cineplex franchises, is the option to purchase alcoholic drinks to bring with you into the theater. My favorite is there slushy’s, which you can mix with your choice of hard liquor. They tend to show alternative style movies, as well as the big names.

Mike Riberdy

Very nice place, in the downtown area, they still have 5 dollar Tuesday, yes, 5 bucks to see a movie. Can't find that anywhere else in this city. Recommended!!!

shawkat hussain

Small cosy theatre where I saw Bohemian Rhapsody for only five dollars on a Tuesday afternoon. But a word of caution: if you want to catch a show at 1.15 pm don't go too early because the lobby will open at 1 and you may have to wait outside in the freezing cold.

Adam Diamond

Great Small cinema option that is only 10$ for general admission; $5 on Tuesdays! Students and seniors pay only $7. Art exhibits and more.

Robert Filart

Probably my favourite theater in the city. Prices are good ($5 Tuesdays) and new films usually make it to their theater after about two weeks. It's super clean and the staff are professional, welcoming and easy going. It's old style seating, but well-maintained. I've never had a creaky, musky chair or found the floors to be sticky. The screens aren't gigantic but definitely bigger than the largest home theater, and the picture and sound are digital and clear. They have B-movie and old school film events which I'd like to attend at some point. Should be fun!

Matheus Miranda

great cinema, awesome prices, be advised small screens but with great sound and image quality, good popcorn.

Brent

went for a kids birthday party. it was a great space for the party, and the kids loved lego batman. centrally located near Yonge and Carlton, and close to Maple Leaf Gardens (Loblows).

Konstantine Palanski

What a gem! Screens aren't large, but the movie-going experience is really at its best here. The place and its employees have a soul and obvious love for movies.

Durand Jarrett-Amor

I love the feel of this cinema. It has a very cozy feel. The screens are a bit small, so it might not be the best place to watch action movies. Also, the actual theater's are small, so you have to arrive early to a movie if you want to get a good seat sometimes.

Gen Smiley

Small, friendly, old theatres which used to be called, "The Carlton", which honestly, is still what everyone still refers to it as. They used to play just the artsy films like documentaries, foreign and independent films, but now they also play some mainstream movies. It's really easy to get to by subway. College station is literally just a few steps away.

Mike Carlson

Appreciated local movie theatre business. Cheaper option, but works well and hosts lots of local film festivals

Angela M

BETTER/lower ticket pricing at a historic downtown location. Staff is friendly, quick & helpful. Because theatres are smaller, even the viewing experience feels more personal.

Nicco Tancredi

Its a smaller older theatre w smaller screens by todays standards...but its got some charm too it. catch 2nd run & indie flix here that you might otherwise miss out on Plus $5 Tues movies...

Chris Bulbulian

I have no major issue with smaller theaters like Imagine... but from when I was little until recently, virtually all of my experiences had been at things like Silver City or Colossus. This is teeeeny tiny by comparison. They are such small theaters that there's only one walkway. It's not like there is seating on the left and then seating on the right. It's a single column from when you enter and like 10 rows of seats. That's it. The screen is also quite small. If you're used to very large experiences like Silver City, this really pales in comparison... this feels just slightly larger than if I was in somebody's finished 'media room' basement. I'd also like to point out that smaller theaters like this barely have any height difference between the seats. That means shorter people like me (I am 5'2") have to sit strategically to not have anybody in front of them for at least four rows otherwise you'll have a head covering part of the screen. The larger theaters of course have steps and there is a big variation between each row.

Kate Peiyin Zhang

Very nice and cozy cinema. Cheap affordable prices 5$ on Tuesdays and good viewing screens, would recommend

Danny D

Great friendly service and is wheel chair accessible with good movies playing all the time. ALWAYS a pleasure checking out a movie there.

Timothy Larrea

Great place for a more private date or evening. Small and quaint always a great experience. Small bucks for big fun.

Jovin Tardif

My wife and I attended the TOIFF 2019. We had the opportunity to watch multiple short films and we were very pleased with the experience. The atmosphere was exciting as filmmakers were here to display their craft and watch our reactions. We ordered a combo (Popcorn, drink and candy) to prepare ourselves for a great evening. Imagine cinemas did a great job making people feel at home while we were in their establishment. The short films were fantastic. I would recommend that others join the festivities in the future for an experience like no other. You can watch the film and afterwards go talk to the filmmakers after the show in the lounge. It is fascinating to hear their perspectives on their film. I hope to see you all next year. ???????? #toiff #toronto

Alex Rezz

Good movie theatre with clean and comfortable seats. The staff was very nice and the prices were average compared to other locations. The line waits for the movies are organized and don’t take too long as more than one person is typically working. I would definitely recommend coming back although it was not an incredible out of world experience

Bill Sarman

I always enjoy going to the Imagine Carlton location, employees always friendly, entire place is always clean and theatre temp is just right !

Nathaly Minda

Really good place if you are looking to watch some movies without spending a lot. On Tuesdays is half price, so only $5.

martino daniells

This is an old school movie theater wit small rooms and comfortable seats but the ambience here is great

Bernard Dunford

I like the older theaters. Lots of history and well located. I'm never big on theater snacks but this place is licensed for beer and mixed drinks. Tickets or cheaper here and only $5 on Tuesday. They have some special features as well like theme movies.

Mohit Sharma

Small theater. Not so advanced or fancy. Good for small groups or if you live nearby.

Ian Goff

"The Carlton" as it is often reffered to, is my favorite cinema in Toronto. The price, service and general vibe of the place is better than any cineplex in town. If you want to get away from the corporate cinemas that are dominating the market, go to The Carlton!

Alex K

This is my favorite theatre to watch movies when I'm in the area or I want to save that extra buck($5 on tuesday compared to the cineplex's tuesday special). Great prices. Interesting selection of films; my most recent one would be a annihilation totally recommend watching that btw! The area its located in is very convenient for a quick snack right after the movie( Bubble tea fan ) The theater is of an older design hence that reflects in the size of the rooms but the price makes up for it!

Stephenn Quaglia

Good deal Tuesdays. Senior discount. Unusual films. Small screens. Sometimes crowded on deal days. Ticket in some of their theatres sold at candy counter.

Can Iyigungor

Good location but screens look smaller than your tv at home when you sit in a row behind the very first five rows. The surround sound system also sucks big time. 3 stars because it is very cosy, it has good price, and close to where i live.

Ellie Murphy

Great film. Good location for transit. Need a simple good cafe open past 10pm in that area

Paul Magda

Classic cinema experience. The theater's are pretty basic. They have a good selection of Canadian films. Tickets are only 5.00 on Tuesday. You don't have to pay for "VIP" for the option of drinking in the theater.

Walid Douri

Attended during black History Month were they had vast selection of movies that had black directors and writers. The movie that I was watching that night was Bilal: A New Breed of Hero - which was an outstanding movie that represented a community that is normally forgotten and the struggles they have faced and that have been overlooked. The service and snacks were fairly priced and portioned the theater itself it's quite different compared to Cineplex and other major Cinemas across the GTA. But this one had a little history engraved in it which makes it quite unique.

Tom

Quiet, old-school cinema. Smaller screens than your modern multiplex, but a somewhat nostalgic experience with honestly priced tickets and lower prices for concessions (because what’s a movie without popcorn) than the others. Friendly staff and usually very quiet during the week.

John Petrungaro

Fun cinema, good location, decent prices. Screens aren't huge, but it's better than your house.

AJ Comeau

Not your average cinema! Carlton has a great selection of movies at a reasonable price, plus special events for fans of cult films, independent productions and B-movies. Only downside: the screens are pretty small when compared to big chains, but that won't keep me from going back again and again.

Jonathan K

This used to be the best theatre in Toronto. Not for the screen size, which is probably smaller than the avg over paid doctor or lawyer's home tv, but for the independent films they used to play. Alas, people want to see junk, as film is dead. The blockbusters are not something worth seeing here as you wont get the size. I like the casual feel and the special shows.

Amanda Lewis

This is one of my preferred theaters in Toronto. The mix of programming is great - they screen wide-release Hollywood films, locally made movie premieres, fun film festivals, and interesting art-house work. The screens are relatively small, but the small-cap rooms make for a comfortable and intimate experience.

Prachy Mohan

Low budget theatre with $5 Tuesdays. It's a good alternative to the big Cineplex theatres around the city. I love that they play old movies here as well which are fun to checkout.

Grace Mark

Movie admission is economical $10 daily opens on Sunday and half price tuesday $5.00. Convenience location close to college subway and streetcar to shopping destination. Family oriented movie goers clise to primrose hotel old maple leaf gardens newly renovated loblaws. Semi upscale location.

Curtis Scholten

Love this theater. $5 Tuesday's and they're licensed. Great sushi place next door as well.

Sharon Reine

Great cinema running first run. & 2nd run films w a few indies and classics. Better price than the corporate theatres and they have invested in building nice vireing rooms too

Chulsoon Lee

Cozy clean less crowd Screen is not so big but you seat close so it's not too bad Sometimes doesn't have the movie I want to watch(new releases) but otherwise 5 star cinema

Kelly Tiller

Nice theatre, 5 dollars for a movie on Tuesday's! Can't really go wrong. The theatre I was in was a bit small and smelled a bit funny, maybe it was the popcorn butter? Who knows. Screen was a normal size with normal quality for a smaller theatre. Reminds me of a theatre that's in my hometown (a small city). Would recommend for people who don't care so much for top of the line screens.. didn't notice that seat was uncomfortable so I guess that means the seats are fine.

Joseph Freeman

Great selection of movies tired theaters, but overall a good place to see films.

Karishma Sinha

Great movie theatre. The Carlton Movie Festival is back from LA, and Chicago into Toronto. Great screening of short movies and documentaries. The stories are so rather touching. I’d not see these on my cable TV but I was glad to see these. Again the movies are so touching that were screened last week. They are stories that are more fresh than the usual news stories! Movies that were striking Dance with a demon - A Canadian movie about a mother who has a struggle with a debilitating disease and her child moves with her Dad . Her child has haunting imagination of her mother . Sorry to see this story. It was a movie by Mitch Bax. Raw Tuba - US 20 minutes documentary It’s story of a Baltimore kid who went to extra lengths to be accepted in a music school. He worked really hard as he wanted his family to depend on his music pursuits. Music artists are willing to do anything to pursue their music talent. They take up odd day jobs to survive as a musician. The story got many fans.

Ramin Tarafdar

An oldie but a goodie so many memories in there, from Pulp Fiction until today, after almost two years. That is 24 years of going to the movies at the same place. Need I say more?Thank you all.

Wendy Li

Inexpensive theatre to see the latest and greatest movies for a cheaper price. Only caveat is the sound is not as advanced and the screen is not as big and not with high resolution.

Charles Sule

Can't beat the $5 Tuesday! We had assigned seats too, but I'm not sure if that's all the time; but there was nothing special going on, so I guess it might be. That's good, because the cinemas are small, ours was 73 seats. This place is accessible too.

Thomas Braukmann

Small theatre and screens. Ticket prices are lower. always enjoy going here for movies.

Daniel H

Nice throwback to the days when Rainbow Cinemas ruled supreme and Cineplex wasn't your only option. What you see is what you get with this movie theater. Personally it's the perfect little date night spot or the perfect cheap theater for a Tuesday night show (well any night really - prices ain't bad)

Shawn McNally

Still show some really good first run movies. Could use a touch up. Other than that... The service was good and a good selection of movies.

Margarita Emelina

No air conditioning working well 15 % Wel they charge full price I stay beacuse I was with my son wachting emoji. After I dicide to go and aks them about the air conditioning Ohhh ya well is not working thought there is sign at the door After have to pay 10.75 to go there for the taxi 24 dollar for the movie and ???? Again 12 dollar to go back (taxi)

Malcolm Lynett

Cancelling shows because some employees aren't fans of the content to be shown. This theatre has fallen victim to “cancelling” culture. Next it’ll be no more violence allowed in movies. The lack of integrity this theatre has displayed does not serve anyone well.

123 321

I really enjoy coming to this theater. I usually come once a year for the Left movie festival. It's a cozy place with nice staff. I love the experience and avoiding the bombastic Cineplex experience for a change.

Mohamed Saleh

I love this cinema. It features many hollywood block busters and also documentaries and independent films. The prices are reasonable. At $10.00 a ticket, it is must cheapr then other cinemas. Also the staff are very friendly and the popcorn tastes great. The art work around the cinema is great to check out when you are there.

Jeff Chukwu

It's not a very big place but.it is very much worth it, if you want to get high quality films at a relatively pleasant price. I recommend..

Huda Khayyat

Good option to watch latest movie in affordable prices. I wish that the sound in movies are louder little bit. Love the 5 dollar for a movie in Tuesday!

Adam Langley

Theatres are quite small but that may suite their needs. The place was clean. Concessions could be a little more giving. The cheese to nacho ratio is way off with concessions providing enough nachos to feed an army but providing enough cheese for a fraction of a person. As well, I asked for a cup of water for my two little ones and was provided one of those very small cups that was lid less. When I asked if I could get a cup with a lid I was told no. Not very functional for little kids. Moreover, not very functional walking into a crowded theatre trying not to spill any on a random person. I like the fact that they offer a different shaker package for popcorn than other theatres and as such have different flavours - that was cool.

Francesco Zangari

Been here many times. Nice theatre and it is always not super busy so seat selection is never an issue. Concessions are relatively cheap and they accept Groupon

Cord Allman

Strong smell of old popcorn in the theatre, very small screen & just as expensive as Cineplex. But, because the theatre is so small, the sound I would say is comparable to Cineplex and seating is 150% better if you are going with a partner. (Seat arm rest goes up and runs flush with the back of the seats) Much more comfortable.

Karen D

Fun free movies on Thursdays. I have seen shorts for Comedy and Fantasy and Sci-fi. I'm skiing women directors and Documentaries Then returning for the Horrors. Nice small theatre. Chairs are comfortable and staff is professional. Easy to get to and access. Only drinks, popcorn and candy available at consesion stand but that's part of the through back charm. Also not as loud as new theatres. Theatre carries mainstream current movies as well as older and the odd quirckie movie. Read the Markey to see what's playing and go check out.

Erin Finnigan

When I want to go out to see a movie, I always check the Carlton first. I prefer matinees and they offer them throughout the week, not just on weekends. I feel strongly about supporting an independent repertory theatre that plays independent and foreign films. They also play some of the wide release films (including for children) offered elsewhere, but a little after the big chain theatres have moved on to the next big budget film. I also like seeing the familiar faces of the staff. AND the $10 regular price with throw-back Tuesdays at $5 all day is just fantastic and so appreciated.

Claudia O

I love these little movie theatres. There's 5$ Tuesday every Tuesday and the staff are always very nice. The ticket price is also easy more affordable than big cinemas, and it's nice to support a smaller local place. This one is right next to both a streetcar stop and the subway, as well as a big bulk barn if you want to sneak in some better candies :)

David Richardson

Cinema shows movies that do not make it to the more main stream cinemas. The screens are small but the serve beer and wine that you can bring into the movie with you. Friendly staff are always helpful as well.

Kate Ballard

Okay for the price, $10 for adult, but the screens are on the small side and the projectors could use some updating. It's not stadium seating so I had a head blocking a portion of the screen. It's impossible to squeeze by people without …

Eric Kwan

Small downtown theatre. The theatre space is fairly small and screens are the size for a home projector. The theatres reflects it's distant roots. Has much improvement of a cinema. Does have space to sit and hold a meetup.

Jeff Villada

Cute little theatre with cheaper admission, its Like Cineplexs little brother. Would highly recommend going on your birthday, admission is free just bring photo i.d to prove your birth date.

Eduardo Vicencio

Every Tuesday is $5.00, no changes. Just go get the movie ticket and enjoy it.

Julian Cutajar

Get a ticket early and pick your seat then you can leave and come back and know that your seat is always going to be reserved

Abi Tulabot

I love Carlton Cinema. The best things here are the ticket prices & popcorn. All the snacks are affordable which is great. $10 for a movie ticket is awesome and it's cheaper for seniors and kids. $5 Tuesdays are a blessing. I think most of the theatres floors aren't at an incline so you will see the back of people's heads if they're in front of you. I always love their movie selection! My go to!

Marcelle Lean

I love Carlton cinema for its atmosphere of an old cinema full of history. It is managed by young competent people who are very eager to please.

CT Ashenden

Hands down the most affordable and friendly cinema in the city. Prices can't be beat and their programming is super fun. Look out for monthly screenings of "The Room" (the greatest worst movie ever made).

bob dodd

I went to see Casablanca. It turned out to be some dodgy Eygptian remake. I don't know if it was Cinemaclock or Imagine Cinemas that screwed up the Cinemaclock listing, but the cinema was trying to blame me for believing their ad. Sorry but it's no my fault that their ad was wrong. And they had no right to try and make me look like a fool. Thank God I had access to the Cinemaclock ad otherwise I doubt I'd have even got a refund.and that was only for the ticket and not the concession stand. I am not impressed.

Fahrin H

This is a smaller theater. Not a great experience this visit. The theater was very hot. We were told the thermostat had been broken a week ago and they hadn't gotten it fixed yet. But weren't warned before entering that it might be uncomfortable.

Racquel Anthony

I love the cinema, such a great atmosphere. It's intimate and I love the events that happen at the theater. The prices for food and drinks are AFFORDABLE !!they serve liquor what else could I ask for staff is fantastic no complaints here.

Lulu Williams

Smaller and intimate space but well maintained. Affordable prices and friendly staff. Bonus is they're close to my place and at times can be one of 2, 3 or 4 people in the entire theater! Ha! I dont know how profitable this is for Imagone cinemas but I love the experience of feeling catered to! Lol

My movie watching experience was totally fine as usual. My complaint is about the number of advertisements that preceded the film. I avoid Cineplex and the large theatres because of the onslaught of advertising before the movie. I guess maybe this is a consequence of becoming 'Imagine' rather than Rainbow. There used to be no or minimal advertising. I understand that the cinema makes a lot of money from advertising but it's still annoying.

Jef Mallory

Great theatre without all the commercials and spectacle. Smaller theatres but very comfortable seating.

Maria Cristina Plastina

It is cheap and it has a vintage feel. Not recommended for blockbusters... especially if you like surround sound and huge screens, but otherwise recommended.

Jessica Patterson

It was a decent experience, we drove 3 hours to watch a documentary that had a one day screening at this theatre. The doc was worth the drive but the sound quality of the theatre wasnt the best and the popcorn wasnt good at all. I believe the butter was rotten. The film also stopped twice mid screening, not sure how much of the doc we missed since they had to skip over a part.

I went to the Carlton Cinemas for the first time and saw The Lighthouse (Great film btw!) and I must say that when I’m in Toronto, I’ll definitely check out this theatre first! It’s going to a retro style Cinema that really made the experience for me! I love the new and classic posters on the walls! The auditoriums are small but the proportion of the screen (which was big for the room) was perfect! I didn’t mind the classic style seating. The sound was impressive, loud and clear. Also, the picture quality was great - digital projection! I went on a Tuesday and the $7 ticket was a great deal!!! What’s not to like? I like that they play Hollywood films but also independent films too! Also nice to see is how they have a clip of movie theatre etiquette before the show (sad that people have to be reminded of how behave at the movies). Kudos to the great work staff because it was a busy Tuesday but ya’ll handled it perfectly!

Dante Menardino

Best place in the city to get a reasonable ticket and goodies. Often plays movies that are unique and artistic, won't gouge you like Cineplex.

Stats

What you'd expect for cheap ticket, just solid movie theatre nothing fancy no 3D, no Imax, no special/extra comfy seats, just the basic stuff concession, online tickets.

Lily S. M. Liu

Great movie theatre, run by a great company! Super cheap ($5-10) tickets and accessible; save more on Tuesdays and at kiosks. Employees have always been a hoot whenever I visited. Been going to the Carlton and Market Square locations for over 4 years. The Market Square location was recently updated with recliners, which is fantastic!! Way better than Cineplex, which only has recliners in the handful of front row seats in the VIP sections. I hope they bring these recliners to the Carlton location soon. They unfortunately lose a star from me as they closed their "free birthday movie" program in the summer of 2019.

Piotr Wlodarek

Very nice movie theater but it would be nice if the movie theater would have bigger movie theaters to fit more people.

For the last month, every Tuesday we went to see a movie. It is cozy and nice. I like the beer selection, pop corn & drink prices are average and it is cool to have a movie night during the week. I wish I discovered the place earlier.

vinmass123

I wish there were more movie theaters like this.

Brendan p

$10 tickets are hard to beat. A go to theater for anything from new releases to indie screenings.

Niname Nine

Usually I don’t find movies I like playing here but the seats and the location are both incredible. It’s a clean place that offers a comfortable movie going experience

Heather Barry

We came here simply because it's the closest theater to us and I like to avoid giving Cineplex my money for overpriced bad popcorn, but we will be definitely be coming back. The screens and theaters are much smaller than what you'll find at a Cineplex, but the quality is still great. They tend to show more independent and older films as well as a few of the current big budget movies. They also serve a small selection of beer and liquor, and their concessions are more reasonably priced.

Joe Healy

A nice small multiplex. An interesting range of films, blockbusters, indie films, multicultural and the snack bar is licensed and better than competitive pricing. 5 dollar Tuesday is amazing.

Elaine Shang

Amazing place. Super worth it on Tuesdays, half ticket price and special Tuesday combo with free refills! Best theater ever ❤❤❤

Sanjit Dasgupta

Really good price compared to other cinemas around. It's a good location, the theatres themselves are cozy. The popcorns cheap. It's a really good time.

JORGE ROJAS

Excellent price. Screens are small, but enough to enjoy a movie. Good sound. The promotions are great!

S R

I love that this place gets movies that don't go to the main theaters in town. So grateful to have a theater like this in Toronto.

vanishiwa

Dated cinemas. Too small, and still selling expensive tickets. Would rather go to Cineplex than this, if you are going to watch mainstream movies. Only visited this recently because of a documentary I watched that is only available in here. Being a small theatre, they can't handle long lineups for the popcorn and drinks efficiently.

Lena

They didn't turn off the light during the screening! I waited for 5 Minutes until I went out and told the stuff, but even then they didn't seem to care and nothing happend. Everyone was annoyed for the whole movie! Dear Team: Please never let that happen again and check it every time!!!! I am a Filmmaker and thats probably the worst experience I ever had during a screening.

David Tsoulis

Super nice staff. Great place to watch a movie, plus they run older classics. A little dated though.

David Wojcik

Fun little theatre, cheap af. Wish more people knew about it, there's usually less than 10 people at a screening. They have an awesome initial d arcade machine!

J B

Theatre was clean and great prices. I love going there.

Sehar Habiba

Sometimes it smells in there otherwise it has amazing deals like I come here for every movie!!

Thomas Domagala

Nice Cinema, Great tasting popcorn and they serve alcohol. No A/C is a letdown especially when there is a full room of people.

Lio

Good cheap tickets on Tuesdays with popcorn inclusive deals. Seats are a little close together and on the same height level throughout so if a tall person seats in front of you they might obstruct your view

Michael Allison

Great little theater that reminds me of the theaters from my childhood. Also cheap movie Tuesdays aren't something to complain about.

Caroline Chuang

Visited this cinema for a free screening of short documentaries from around the world presented by Wildsound Film Festival. The programme has a different theme each time. I look forward to the popcorn at the here - price is reasonable, they don't even charge anything extra for butter. When you get to the bottom there's also a buttery flavour. If you get the large popcorn you can also get a free refill.

Christian D

Great price, customer service is great....combo prices, are fair...i recommended this place...for any movie watching fan ......very relaxing, i hope everyone there is safe, healthy, see you al soon again...stay open....

Danylo Varshavsky

Old school vibe. Cheap tickets on Tuesdays. Sometimes they have screenings of older classics. Reason it's not 5/5 is because this place is lacking some polish, but I kind of like that.

Jennifer Lum

My partner and I have been going to this theatre together for the past four years. Each time we go, we leave with another great experience. The service is great, the environment is always clean, and theres always a wide variety of movies to choose from. The only complaint I have is seating availability, and this is only due to the size of the theatre and the capacity it can comply with. We've had to leave because there was no seating. So if you plan on going on a weekend night - get there early for the best seats. Aside from that, this theatre is great for families, couples and friends, and provides an overall great experience.

Ben Wazo

I go there on Tuesday sometimes, good price and location. Screens are a bit small but contrary to where I am from (Montreal), they sell alcohol there!

Brian Carrillo

Nice cheap movies but it's the old style seat but totally worth it

Guida Simaozinho

Awesome movie theater. Cheap and not too much confusion. I'm definitely going back.

Amirage Pittman

This place gets 5 starts because they sell margaritas. The movie was great too, we saw Angel has fallen.

Tyler Lee

Loved this place. Great ambience and it usually plays a good selection of movies. Can't wait to go back once the restrictions ease up.

Melissa Kahue

I had never been to this theater until my former professor had his film entered into the Independent film festival recently here. I fell in love with the cozy atmosphere instantly. The popcorn and cheap prices are also very appealing as well. Definitely recommend :)

tj b

I'll always love this place but then they also have 1 refill on a large popcorn. eat fast & get more

Danny Bernard

Love these theatres. Such a nice feel. Great movies, prices, and staff.

Ashna Dhillon

Intimate, with smaller theatres that allow for nice quiet viewings. Concessions are priced as you would expect, but they also offer alcohol which seems fun.

RabuHina

Went in there for the first time and it was decent cinema (even though it was rather small compared to others) but it was otherwise nice. Tuesdays are 5$ specials. Side note: saw Pet Sematary and that is a good movie. Felt a bit rushed but its nonetheless a good film!

J Castillo

Projection quality has degraded considerably in recent memory. Watched 'Arrival' just this evening and contrast could've been a lot sharper. Images also appeared blurry. I've been going to Carlton Cinemas for years and have had great memories of watching movies here. I would seriously consider going to other theatres instead or waiting for VOD rather than seeing another film here unless improvements are made.

Michael Calder

Such a great little place to grab a flick when you are in downtown T.O. for business. Small screens but a great atmosphere.

Kyle Francis

Probably my favorite cinema place in Toronto. Friendly staff. Cheap prices. Grab a beer if you want before the show.

Crystal Eve

Cozy cinema located right beside college subway station. Every Tuesday they offer 5 dollar movies which have become a weekly tradition for me. The cinema is old fashioned and has an intimate feel to it. Also, quite a few smaller movie festivals are hosted at this theater.
