I visited Cinémathèque as part of the Montreal International Black Film Festival #MIBFF19, as this was the venue for 2 events. The theater is perfect for intimate and social events. Centrally located walking distance from the metro, with decent sized theaters. There is a stage that allowed for an interview/discussion, and the sound was great. In heading to the washrooms (which were clean), I discovered that there is a lounge like area with a snack bar.

Well the place is okay. But when I arrived there leaving 10min to the movie I was so confused because a woman sitting at the information desk said I can't buy the ticket there. She explained me where I can buy on the corner of the street but as a tourist I couldn't find it right away. And when I came back and asked again she was just pointing the direction with the finger saying same thing. It was confusing because there were to box offices on the street. I had to wait in the queue at the wrong one and when I found the right one the staff said it's weird that she told me the place(te headquarter) because I can normally buy the ticket at there as well!

One of Montreal's under appreciated gems. They dig up some incredibly obscure stuff that also happens to be good. Best to learn some French, but they also have lots of English language films and sometimes English subtitles. Silent movies with an accompanying pianist. Just a great place. The ongoing exhibitions are fun too.
