The cheapest movie tickets in town, but the selection is catered toward families and regular film viewers, e.g. big studio children's animations, action flicks, romcoms, and other mainstream films. Screening for contemporary art-house and foreign cinema is sparse, however. Of note, Christian Petzold's and Jia Zhangke's latest works made their way into the schedule in the last 4 months or so, plus a bunch of A24 releases. Older cult films have also, more recently, been included in the schedule (different film each week), which is a nice addition. Bernie, the owner, is great and the snack selection is nice and affordable.

This is a great theatre. The owner, Bernie, is super sweet and personable. The other people that work there are always nice too. The theatres and chairs remind me of the theatres when I was a kid: comfortable but not overly fancy ( I'm going to see a movie, not sit in an overpriced throne!!! So it's perfect for me). All the prices are great, and it's nice that it's possible to take kids to the movies without breaking the bank. Pro tip: the samosas are dirt cheap and SO delicious Make sure you throw your change into the jar on the counter; they donate it to Hope and Cope which is an amazing cancer wellness centre.

It was a rainy day and I had my little guy with me after his doctor's appointment. It was the perfect Mommy-Son date! Reasonably priced and not overwhelming. With the reasonable prices I don't think twice to purchase snacks here. I will be making this my regular movie stop as I rotate through my kids for their one-on-one movie-dates with Mommy! Oh! Buy from the counter the 20$+tax pack of 20 tickets, and compare with the admission price of your regular movie theater, especially when you have two kids. A 1$ or 2$ tasty popcorn and 1$ drink, how does this compare with Cineplex theaters prices? The two main rooms have comfortable seats and are of reasonable standard, same for the projections. And it's usually not packed with people. But anyway, for the price for a family of 4, this is at least 70% cheaper than your regular Guzzo or Cineplex theaters. Be aware that individual tickets at the counter are 2.50$, unless you buy the pack of 20. In response the the old negative review down bellow, the customers are just the regular people here, very respectful, and quite family oriented. I have never seen noisy or drinking people inside.

Let's be real here. It's a dollar cinema, don't expect a complete cinema experience. It's like going to dollarama and expecting to find the products of loblaw. Now that's out of the way, the cinema is really nice! Movies are usually priced around 2.5$, coke and popcorn at 1$. The seats are comfy and the sound is good. The screen is a little small but you forget it fastly as soon as the movie starts. All in all, a good experience to see movie with friends ????

The service was wonderful. The owners gave us free candy because they overheard us mention that it was our first time there. Unfortunately the movie watching experience left everything to be desired. We could hear the movie playing from a different room. The seating was an uncomfortable bench made with what I think were 2 X 4's and they made a lot of noise. The room design was not optimal for sound and even viewing because the screen was obstructed. Just torrent a movie you want to watch and view it at home.

We LOVED it! Never experienced that much kindness! We went to watch Joker in the Dollar Cinema but sadly we couldn’t pay with credit card and we didn‘t know that! Star 1: free parking – even it’s outside but nothing beats free! Star 2: $1.5 for tickets or refreshments – are we talking about the prices of the 80s? No, they really only charge that much. Star 3: they also show some first-run movies even some Quebec exclusive titles, for example, The Interview (with James Franco). Star 4: the service is good. The owner doesn’t watch movies himself but he’s doing his best to make sure you’ll watch them comfortably. So this is a “Four-Star” cinema in my humble opinion.

Just like in the good old days. If you remember going to the movies in the 90s, before the impersonal multiplexes wiped out old movie theaters, then you'll feel right at home at Dollar Cinema. Located at the very end of what must be the most depressing mall in all of Montreal, it sure doesn't look like much (neither from the outside nor when you step inside) but the charm of old movie houses of yore is undeniable. The proprietor is as quirky as he is nice, you can get a bag of popcorn for a buck (and it's really good), and movies which would have cost you $13 to see a couple of months ago cost just $2.50. Buy a pack of 20 tickets for $20 + tax and you've got yourself a bunch of really cheap outings. Highly recommended.

It was a meetup so i didn't pay... thankfully the theater is huge with a huge screen but for some reason the projection is tiny so i had to sit very close, also was a plus since the speakers they are using are logitech pc 2.1 speaker XD .......oh yeah and the screen was very dark the first half of captain marvel was guess work on what was going on.... recommended if you are on a budget and live close by and you don't care much about the movie or wanna makeout I guess....pffff the second star is for the staff and the price which i bet is very budget friendly.

The room is so uncomfortable (not renovated since the 70s) and the sound so bad that you will be disturbed. The films that pass are dated and are in fact a poor BluRay broadcast on the screen. Regarding the food, it is certainly not expensive but the smell of melted butter spreads everywhere in the cinema. Everything looks so greasy and foul smelling. If you find that life is not good, this place is dreamed of to hope that ultimately, all things considered, there will always be worse elsewhere. 2.50 $ + taxes Okay, it's cheap but I would rather be tickled for 2 hours nonstop than come back there. Your good old sofa with Netflix or a VOD is ultimately not that uncomfortable. (Original) Si vous voulez faire un tour à Détroit sans prendre l’avion, le Ciné Dollar comblera sans doute vos attentes. Je n’ai jamais vu un endroit aussi laid kitsch et sale de ma vie. La salle est si inconfortable (pas rénovée depuis les années 70) et le son si mauvais que vous serez forcément dérangé. Good cinema considering how much it costs to get in (think less than 30% of the price of a mainstream theatre like Cineplex). Also, good for groups if you get there early enough. The popcorn and food that they sell here is very inexpensive compared to mainstream cinemas. If you wanna catch a cheap movie that probably isn’t in theatres anymore, but also isn’t out yet online or on Blu-ray, this place is for you. Honestly really surprised at how cheap movies are here. Don’t come here on a first date unless you wanna come off as a cheapskate ????

With 2 full-size rooms and screen that has nothing to envy to other theaters beside featuring older films, about the same they're released on DVD & Blu-ray, for a quarter of the price. There's a 3rd smaller size room called "The Living Room" which has over 25 places with a large screen (over 50") although the sound is understandably softer as half of the room is built with non-isolating material in one of the full-sized rooms (taking like 20 seats of it) ; the website and leaflet mentions some films to be there but some other are spitted between the 2 kind and you could have to be there at prime hours for films in their 2nd/3rd week but it's not a bad experience (just not the best). With 2$ ticket and 1$ items, such as popcorn, soft drink, juice, candy, dipped ice cream cone & snack (my favorite is bag of samosas, 2 in it ; pattie are popular as well) and a friendly staff, what more could you ask at that price ?! There's always people, even the first representation in weekdays, and during weekend prime-time, you see no difference from a regular theater if not from the older movies and much smaller price ! I wish enduring success to those that made and contribute to the Dollar Cinema.

Good movie options, it feels like you are in the 80's once you step in. Go early to get your popcorn and snacks as the lineup is so long and the cantine is very small. The cinema is very old and renovations are overdue, the seats are very dirty and busted. Washrooms are very unsanitary and should be cleaned, so be prepared.

OK, the price is ridiculous cheap, and the stuff is kind, but people that love the movies want a clean place to watch it, and a overal good expierence. Not here. The small room is a joke. The big theather (#2) had several problems with the audio (mono, not stereo, or simply missing), and sometimes the image didn't fit on the screen.

I like this place. When you can get into the main theatre, the experience is fun. The value is unmatched (everything is only 1$) and the staff were very friendly. The only downside is the location is wacky, and the mall it's in is pretty depressing, but overall a great rainy day activity for the family.

Inexpensive cinema near the periphery of the Montreal orange metro line. Located in Décarie Boulevard inside a large mall like building and is surrounded by cafes and shops. The theater isn't the best, but tickets and snacks (popcorn, samosa, drinks etc) are super cheap! - Only $1 or $2. You can even catch some movies at only $2.5. If you don't mind traveling a bit (about 40 mins from downtown) are they're playing your film, it's a steal! Would highly recommend for students or travelers on a budget. If you prefer a more classical movie watching experience like in the multiplexes, you'd be better off in the downtown area.

The seating arrangements are well thought out. The cinema has recently been renovated. The proprietor is very hospitable. The snacks are tasty. Of course, the prices, both for snacks and for the movies are unbeatable. Great experience, all round. Mazel tov!

It's great for kids due to the cheap price and cheap popcorn and so on. I go there with 4 kids and it costs me less than $20 for the movie, popcorn and drinks, you can't beat that. Make sure your movie is not being shown in the small room though. That room is not convenient at all in my opinion. Make sure you try the kosher jumbo hotdogs at least once.

Not bad. It's a small theater managed by only one server, the owner. The rooms are small, like a living room with a proyector and home theater; however, you get the same magic vibe as in a big theater although cozier and warmer. There is a screen and real movie theater seats. Ideal for those who are behind movies-release dates and who refuse to stay home netflixing. If you expect a five stars service you'll be disappointed. And it's cheap!

Five stars for the price, the friendliness of the owners, and the fact that this place exists! Even the trek there is an experience - from Namur metro, you walk along the Decarie, then through a bizarre mall, and just when you're not sure you're going the right way, an escalator at the back of the mall takes you up to the theatre. The owner asked my girlfriend and I if it was our first time at the theatre - it was hers - so he gave her a "first-time cadeau" in the form of the candy of her choice. Sweet guy! That meant we got two tickets, a drink, a popcorn, and a candy all for $10. My only qualm is the "small room" theatre -- compared to the other two full-sized theatres, the small space feels like a weird closet, and the sound/video quality were not great and easily overpowered by the booming sound from the neighboring theatres. So, those factors were quite distracting. Alas, it is hard to complain for the price! My thanks to the owners for keeping the cinematic experience accessible and fun.

Don't let the name deter you, this place is well run and shows legit films that are in theatres! You can come watch whatever is playing everywhere else without breaking the bank. They also have the usual snack bar with theatre fair. Aside from being a bit messy during busy times (but not more than the average theatre), there is really nothing to complain about here.

The Dollar Cinema is a historical establishment located inside the Decarie Square shopping mall. Conveniently located on the Decarie Boulevard, it located on the outskirts of Côte Saint-Luc. It’s walking distance from Namur metro station. It’s wheel chair accessible from It’s multiple entrances. Movie tickets are 2.50$ and food and drinks start at 1$. They recently installed a stage for live performances. Highly recommend for an inexpensive night out for the family.

You can get 20 tickets for 20 dollars. These tickets never expire and you can use. As many as you want for a single movie. Or you can pay 2.50 for a single ticket. The quality is not superb but is very good for 1 dollar. And if doesn't take long for a movie to get out of the other cinemas and get to dollar cinema.

I went in to see a movie and was placed in their small room that had NO surround sound even though it was stated on the walls, but the absolute worse part about my experience was they had a cultural music event playing next door to our room and did not tell anyone who paid for a ticket to see the movie. The entire movie was interrupted by BLARING music and bass from the event next door. I was for certain we would get our money back and or a ticket to a different show!!? The owner knew about this event and yet did not apologize and or offer another ticket for another show! I thought he was supposed to be a nice and reasonable person? Instead he just joked about it because “that’s what he does”... well, it was extremely insulting and insensitive. I left feeling cheated and with a headache. I used to give this place a 4 stars, because you got a good movie, popcorn, and a drink four for under five bucks. However, that's only if you go in theater one or two. They've recently added a third room. This third room, which they call a VIP room. Is nothing more than a home projector with a 60 or 70 inch screen. The projector actually isn't centered on the screen and some of the film is shown on the wall. The sitting in this room is a mishmash of random theater seats, and stools. The room only holds 20 or so people. I'm pretty sure it's an old broom closet. We were showing a movie in there this evening. As promised, Alice Through the Looking Glass was displayed in theater number 3. What I didn't sign up for, was the fact that it was a pirated version of the movie, complete with Asian subtitles on the bottom of the screen. It was obviously taken via camcorder from an Asian theater. Presumably, they do have a right to show second-run movies. But because this is a makeshift third Theatre, they don't have an official projector in there. To get around this, they download a pirated version of the movie and show that version in there. The video quality is God awful, the seating is God awful, the room is God awful, the sound is God awful. I feel this Theatre gets a four to five star rating based on the value alone, only if you get in theatre one or two. But the addition of this third room, and the expectation that it's just as good to pay any amount of money to be seated in the storage closet, and be showing a pirated copy of a movie, is nearly enough to bring this whole experience to a single star rating. I hope they don't get closed down for showing pirated movies, because the value of good if they can just show movies in theater 1 & 2 and close down this farce of a third Theatre.

I have been going to this cinema for years. I absolutely adore its retro feel. The screens are old-fashioned huge, and there is no one hour pre-movie horror show of advertising. Don't take any Czechs there! They have a refined sense of clean and the sticky floors, stained carpets, and iffy washrooms really freak them out. But the rest of us humans just love the place!

With every year it gets worse and worse. I remember loving going there and spending the whole day back then. These days movies quality is very poor. It seems that sometimes they are using very early camera rips instead of DVD rips or actual DVDs. The picture is extremely dark, cut off at the top and bottom or the sides. If there's text in the film it will be translated to subtitles in CHINESE. And the audio isn't dolby I'm certain. I blame the owners for inability to manage and quality control it. They need to hire someone young to help them with the movies and handling the lines as they can be pretty slow at it. Otherwise I think dollar cinema will go down as it will bleed their customers because of all of that.

So we all agree that if you are paying $2.88 to see a movie, and $1 popcorn and $1 soda, you will get what you pay for. An inexpensive outing at the movie theatre. The place is run down, and it not cleaned very often. There are only 2 staff members working there any any given time. That is how Bernie can offer these ridiculously low prices!! Come on, if you want 5 star hotel, you pay the price right? Same thing for the movies. If you want ultra clean, surround sound, comfy ....then be ready to dish out for it! Cineplex cost me $28.00 for 1 adult and 2 kids, not counting the $8 popcorn...I was fortunate enough to have snuck in water bottles into Cineplex. At dollar Cinema, not necessary to try to sneak anything in. I appreciate the experience - my and my two kids can watch a movie, eat candy, popcorn and soda for under $15. Way to go!!

My husband and I took our 3 year old to her first movie here a month ago. We wanted to try a place that was insanely cheap in case she didn't have the patience to sit through a whole movie. Not only were we surprised that she sat through the WHOLE movie, we were amazing by Dollar Cinema. Of course it's not a new place but the snacks are yummy, the sound is great and the service is amazing. We've gone back another 2 times since then. Another great feature right now on the website is 20 admissions for 20 bucks. My little family is only spending 8 bucks (3 admissions and lots of snacks) for a movie. ANYWHERE else, that would be a 50.00 outing. We love Dollar cinema. Great place for kids and the staff is lovely. We'll be back again in 2 weeks :)

I love this place. Have been going there for a good 5 - 6 years now. Very cheap 20 passes for 20$ with no expiry date. Everything is 1$ max 3$ for big drinks and popcorn. Makes going to the movies accessible to everyone. I go with my husband almost every week and it costs no more than 10$ every time we go. The owner is a very nice man with a very good sense of humour. Maybe not as comfortable as the fancy movies we have nowadays but for me, it's going back to my childhood and I love it. For that price it's unbeatable.

This is one of Montréal's staples. This place has been running for quite some time. Of course in this time the rate have increase from the original model of a buck a flick to now 2.50$ if I recall correctly. This is still nothing compared to going to a more expensive cinema theatre. If you have a birthday party, a group from an organisation, couples, families, heck... Come by yourself spend the day and watch asany movies as you want and I'm sure you will still. Have change on your 20$ bill. The owner is a genuinely altruistic person. He created this concept to give to the people a place of gathering and a place which can serve as an outlet for expression. The owner also let various groups and organisations reserve showing rooms in order to organise their own particular gatherings, from time to time. Come here and enjoy your movies a bit later than when they come out, it may feel Wierd not seeing it at cineplex or guzzo but it is worth it. You are giving to a good cause and supporting a business which has given Montréalers a great way to wind down, relax and enjoy a good movie for not too much money.

It might be a good deal for you if: You're okay in a 'V' shaped room with the screen at the bottom of the vee and a big concrete pillar filling the top two-thirds of the vee; You're okay with the projector being to the left of center, creating a keystone distortion of the projection 'rectangle'; You're okay with a LOT of noise from the lobby and people entering at the front of the room at odd times, apparently looking for another screening; You're okay with the next movie scheduled to start the minute before your movie was scheduled to finish. (Our movie started on time at 12 noon and was scheduled to finish at 2:46. The next screening was scheduled to begin at 2:45.) At the downtown Forum Cinema, admission is $6.20, tax included, on Tuesdays if you have their free Scene. It's $7.00 otherwise. It is a lot nicer there and not much more expensive.

La salle de projection est... sale! Le son est correcte et le volume est agréablement bien ajusté par opposition au son trop fort qu'on subit habituellement dans les salles modernes. La clientèle est composée d'une bien curieuse faune... parfois bavarde durant la projection! Le prix d'entrée est de 2,50$ et un sac de popcorn est seulement 1$. C'est un prix d'une autre époque dans une salle d'une autre époque! Les films qui y sont projettés ne sont pas des premières mais c'est tout de même de bons films récents! Le Cinema Dollar est donc un agréable voyage dans le temps!
