Locally owned, they offer military discounts, and have very comfortable seating. Screens, projectors, and sound are all modern so it's as good as any theater in the area plus they have the T-Rex which is a massive IMAX style theater.

The seats are nice and big and comfy, every theater is "stadium style" so all can see, and the TRex theater is amazing! It's huge with bigger seats and a very big screen! Essex Cinemas is our favorite place to see a movie in Northwester Vermont. Going to the movie theater is still a magically and highly anticipated form of entertainment for our family. I just wish the staff at the theater shared our enthusiasm and made each visit a bit more special. They are friendly enough and that about tops it. The theater is clean and comfortable and most importantly, family friend.

Great place to go see the latest Star Wars movie. The 3D theater is massive so can hold a big crowd. They were set up to handle the crowd well and had some entertainment while you were waiting as well. The sound system in the big theatre is amazing and the chairs are very comfortable.

As movie theaters go, it's average. The screen had an obvious issue which put a line through the movie. As long as you aren't paying attention to it, it wasn't terrible. Seats aren't exactly cozy and leg room is what it is. It's a movie theater. It plays movies.

I'm not sure why anyone would go to the Majestic with this place right up the road. Awesome screens (especially T-REX), killer sound, clear 3D, comfortable seating, yummy popcorn. I drive an hour JUST to come here on a regular basis. Best theater in the state by a HUGE margin, yet they are constantly improving. Why? Because they clearly care about the movie watching experience. I recommend this place to anyone.

Great, large screen theater (65 feet wide I think!) and awesome sound to go with the wave of 3D movies. Very clean facility as well as they offer a nice loyalty program and are very interactive across the social media platforms. Wish the restaurant and bar idea took off more as I miss the on-site drink prior to watching a flick. The owner: Dan is the Man!

I love this theater and the employees there. It is, hands down, the best theater anywhere in this area. My only suggestion would be that you reduce ticket prices for movies in Theater #10. It's just way too small to cost the same as seeing a movie in one of the regular-sized theater rooms. You charge extra for the T-Rex because it so big, why not take a little off for the theater that is so small? A reduced ticket price would make me see movies there, but as it is, if a film is playing in that theater I skip it. Not a complaint though, just a suggestion. I see all my blockbusters in the T-Rex, so worth it!

I hate to give a bad review. I do so in the hopes that it is used to improve the experinece because I enjoyed going in the past but I've been a little disappointed lately. The first problem is that it was difficult to figure out the schedule. They had it on a screen in a corner away from where the tickets are sold. The guy at the counter had to look up in the system to tell us which show we could make. Neither of the movies we wanted to watch in 3D were available in the 6-8 time slot we had on a Tuesday night of a holiday week. These movies had just come out. So we had to settle for non 3D. The sound is what bothers me the most. Whoever is controlling the sound doesn't know what they are doing. The balance between the music and dialogue was not good. The eq was terrible, it sounded boxy and muddy. And overall it wasn't loud enough. It's like it was tailored for 70-80 year olds for a Disney animation film for mostly kids and young adults. This is not something one can run up to the kids working that night to ask them to fix.

This is my favorite theater by far. The experience is always great but what I love most about this one is their willingness to screen those movies that might not be "blockbusters". I am partially disabled and when I could not sit in their seats without extreme pain, we had to leave BEFORE the movie started. The management refused to give us a refund but offered us a credit for later use. What, you think my disability is going to magically go away after 40 years ? What good is giving us a credit when I can't sit in these seats ? Soooo angry at their treatment of people with disabilities, I wish everybody would boycot this theatre !

The T.Rex theater will provide you with the best theater experience in Vermont, hands down. Extra large screen, more seating, and WAY better speakers. When I saw Tenet the entire theater was shaking with bass. This theater is the one to be at for all first night releases (Endgame, Star Wars, etc). This place holds a special place in my heart. I've been going here for years and strongly encourage others to support local movie theaters. We're lucky to still have them around during Covid... Seating is a bit of a mess right now and the system in which they let people into the theater is a bit disorganized, but they're doing the best they can. The owner is out constantly talking with customers and doing his best to run the place. I've had good conversations with him and you can tell he really cares about the customers. They have good popcorn and in general a good variety of other foods/snacks. I'm hoping that once restrictions ease up on businesses that Essex Cinemas can go back to their original seating plan so that it's less of a burden on customers, but then again, it's for everyone's safety. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments I have at this theater is the opening night of Avengers Endgame. The line was out the door, people were dressed up, employees were having trivia with the customers in line and even giving out prizes. The atmosphere was so exciting. Everyone in the theater was filled with excitement. Everyone was so friendly, only minutes sitting in the theater and I was on a first name basis with so many others. People truly love coming to the movies and experiencing the first watch with others. This is a theater than you can come to and cry and others won't judge you because funny enough, they're crying harder than you! This isn't just a movie theater, it's a place to create memories and friends. Please, go out to the movies, support this amazing theater. You will not regret it.

Excellent theater! Staff is very friendly and the place is quite clean. Restrooms are numerous and well-kept, and the individual theaters themselves seemed to be well maintained between viewings (nothing is worse than sitting down in someone else's popcorn!). If I had any recommendations it would be to consider expanding the snack selection and offering later/midnight showtimes, but those factors do not impact my positive view of the theater in a meaningful way.

This is my go-to movie theater in northern Vermont. It's reasonably priced (compared to Majestic 10 in Williston), has both 2D and 3D options, numerous theaters, yummy snacks and lots of great movie options and promotions. The seats are comfortable. The sound quality is good. Sometimes they have trilogy marathons and other special events that are unique and a lot of fun. As someone who grew up in Vermont and has lived here my whole life, I definitely recommend this theater.

I'm not a fan of movie theaters. Period. However, I wasn't impressed with the layout in the main area, felt chaotic and crowded even though there weren't too many people. The movie theater was clean and comfortable, although the screen seemed to have some damage to it in a few areas. The movie was way too loud for me and some of the other guests. The bathroom was pretty clean as well. ????????‍♀️

This is my FAVORITE theater. It has a T-Rex, lots of screens, so you know there is always a movie playing that you want to see. The seats are SO SO comfortable too. I'm a big girl and the arms go up if you need extra room. Lol. The popcorn isn't too bad either. The place, including the restroom is clean. They also have great give-aways on Facebook and maybe other media. The ONLY reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the parking is difficult and I have been spoiled by my hometown theater which uses ACTUAL BUTTER for popcorn! I don't go there anymore. Lol.

Its a basic multi-theatre cinema. Each of the theatre's is on the smallish side. As usual for movie theatres, the buttered popcorn and other food is expensive. One star knocked off because sometimes the parking lot is full during popular evening or weekend showings and there is only one way in or out if you are driving.

Way too loud. I was so excited to introduce my preschooler to the movies and took her to a matinee of a G movie. The sound was suddenly so loud when it started that my child immediately started crying and wanted to leave. I asked the ticket taker to turn it down (it really was uncomfortably loud and I even have some hearing loss) and got a really negative response. She said she would tell the projectionist though so I waited a few minutes and tried going back in. It was still way too loud. They did refund my money but now my child never wants to go to the movies again.

Great place to see a movie. The staff is helpful and couteous. I lost my cell phone there recently. The next morning they had the phone waiting for me to pick up. Definitely my favorite place to see a movie.

Love this place. T-rex 3d cinema is awesome. Comfortable seats and typical refreshments and the standard theatre pricing yet still cheaper than other theatres in the area. Easy access with plenty of parking.

So far, over the past two years, every time I go to Essex cinema for a movie, which is usually bi-monthly, the theaters are always filthy. Not once have I gone & looked down at the floor & not seen trash ! And the staff is really not going out of there way to be nice. I normally go at night, (that shouldn't matter) One visit really sticks out in my mind, I went w/my sister, and the theater was sooo filthy we had to leave the theater & go tell the management. They gave us a free-pass for another movie for another night because of the inconvenience. That was nice, but whatever. The bottom line is this, these younger people who leave these smiling, "everything is clean & happy" reviews, desperately NEED TO OPEN their eyes ! And LOOK around themselves ! RAISE your "self-awareness", and you will "see" through the darkness in the theater & see it's true condition, (Not to mention the world too !) Then you can leave an honest, impactful review that will motivate others (Essex cinema employees) to do their job ! I wrote this review strictly because I stumbled upon it while looking at what was playing for movies tonight, and remembered the filth my sister & I walked in on one evening at Essex Cinema's. I'm sure Essex cinema isn't always filthy, but it is at night ! Hope this helps, This is what reviews are for.

Friendly staff. Saw a movie in T-Rex, their big stadium-style theater. Comfortable seats. Good line of vision. Bad popcorn, though. Small kernels and tons unpopped. I got a refill and it was the same. Edit: Went back and popcorn was great. Glad to see them back to true form.

Great theater. Probably one of the best theaters in VT. They have a great restaurant and bar attached to theater. Great staff and theaters! They do have a T-Rex theater. Enjoy!

I love the customer service here, the rewards card that gets you free stuff * the fact that they still put the nacho cheese in the side of the container; instead of being cheap giving those little cups of preordered cheese, that's hardly enough for your nachos. Yes, I'm old school lol!!

Feel like going to the movies will always have that good feel to it. This theatre did it's part. The seats were good the screen was massive and the people even with a bunch of kids behaved well. We'll done Essex cinemas and I will be seeing you again soon.

The theater is by far my favorite I have been to in the area and possibly all of Vermont. If I had to be critical, I would say not enough attention and courtesy is given to customers. And how come the pretzels are either never available or simply just not cooked right, too cold or over cooked and hard?

This theater is by far the best in Vermont. The T-Rex is great with the sound, screen size and comfortable seating. Snacks are expensive, but they are everywhere. If you watch a lot of movies than I highly recommend the A-List Swag Loyalty card. It is free and you earn discounts such as free popcorn, drinks and movie tickets. I want to give a special thanks to management and owners for giving military a discount. It is very appreciated and one important reason why I continue to come here for movies.

The sound in this theater is Wonderful, seating is comfortable and the concession stand is pretty awesome too my only recommendation is to use real butter on your popcorn. The soy bean base oil they use is not very good tasting and turns your fingers orange. Change this one thing and your the perfect 5 star theater.

T-Rex Theater: comfortable seats, nice screen but the stadium seating is so far away from the screen that it really doesn’t feel all that ‘T-Rex’—if you’re expecting an IMAX experience you will be really disappointed, especially considering the $15 ticket price. All other theaters/screens: don’t bother—Very outdated theaters with uncomfortable and crammed seats (good luck if you’re over 5’10), horrible sound (LOUD voices/everything else is whisper quite –regardless of which theater you’re in) and 3D so messed up you can actually see the movie better without the glasses on. and don't even get me started on how absurd it is that they even sell tickets to that dinky little screen off the bar--most people's living rooms are bigger/have better TVs. If you’re a film buff and you care about presentation, skip it—the staff does not know how to fix any issue that pops up. Not blaming them at all, they are very nice, they're clearly just not able to/not trained.

We were sitting in the TRex theater and a couple came and sat behind us, during the previews, we were passing the snacks, due to the whispers of asking if we wanted the snack or not, the couple went down to complain that we were being "loud". A worker came up and spoke with us, he was completely professional, then 2 more times the couple went down to complain again, when we whispered a question about the movie to eachother... so 2 workers came up, we had told them what was happening, and they still threatened to throw us out next time, there was a couple right directly in front of us that hadn't heard us the whole time, if anything they should've been complaining too, but we were not being loud. Instead of telling the couple behind us to move, we were threatened we were gonna be thrown out?? They were the only ones complaining?? Doesn't that say something?? The staff obviously doesn't know how to do their jobs properly!!

Essex Cinemas is my theatre of choice & I will continue to return & reccommend to one & all. Clean and organized. I had the whole theatre by myself. Everything smelled great. Took my temp, had mask at the ready. No cash, just credit. I miss the movies and hope in full swing soon. I think if you miss them too it's a good time to go and help them survive. You get to pick your own seats too. Enjoy.

Went to the movies on New Years Day. To my surprise the movie theatre was pretty quiet, we had the whole theatre to ourself while watching our movie. Service is underwhelming but fine, movie sound and quality were very satisfactory and place was clean. Will return.
