This Movie Theater is classified in the category of Movie theater.
Great movie experience even for older movies. Great picture and sound.
Amazing exhibitions
The theater is pretty cool from the outside to look at but a bit underwhelming once inside
It's really great seeing a movie
Keep in mind, this theater is really old...seating is pretty uncomfortable, but it's still a fun place to go, not many places like this left...have to enjoy it while its here! Nice big IMAX screen, right over the water...gonna miss it
Great picture/audio quality for shows but the concessions are tourist-trap level expensive. Washrooms are poorly laid out via east/west separations and scaling stairs is unavoidable.
Not all the seats provide a good view. It was way too cold, I was cold in my jacket the entire movie. Popcorn made me sick
Best imax experience in the world
Still the best one What do they say, The first one's the best. Recommend.
Nice to see it reopened.
The place itself is good, I like the dynamic of it, the view, structure, different than other movie theatres but the one thing I don't like is the fact that there is no marked seats and they are kind of old and tight. I occasionally go there and love it.
The sound effect was fantastic. Well worth my money. By the way I watched "2001 space odyssey", if that makes any difference.
A must see. The world's first and arguably still best IMAX theatre. Even getting there is fun....walking across the indoor glass bridge over the lake. Parking is plentiful. Costs about 10 bucks. They do ticket, especially if the lot is busy so make sure you pay for parking.
Get there early! It fills up!!!
Great place to watch a new or old movie! Go early to get a good seat
There didn't seem to be much heat on a cold winter's night. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed the set of new and old true IMAX-format movies this winter. It even pleased my doubtful teenagers that hadn't experienced IMAX before.
Saw Dunkirk here and it was a seriously fantastic experience. A total nostalgia trip for the days when this theater was open during the amusement park era. You walk along a catwalk under the Atlantis pavilion, over the water, towards the beautifully lit sphere. Inside, the concessions are adequate, the seats are comfortable but best of all the screen is massive (24x18m) and something to behold (I believe it's the largest in Toronto). 70mm is amazing and the sound is incredible. This place needs a Tarantino night. 10/10 I look forward to the next movie that comes in.
Nostalgic!
See a movie on the big, BIG screen
great movie, and popcorn is so good! the seats are pretty squishy not much arm room
This is how movies were meant to be seen. The screen is absolutely gargantuan and the sound is outstanding. The popcorn is delicious, although the fountain drinks are just the standard options instead of the Freestyle self-serve type that allows you to mix flavours. This is one of the only theaters with a proper IMAX 70mm screen, and it's a treat to see anything in the format, e.g. Dunkirk. Because it's just a single screen all the way out on it's lonesome, it ends up being a fairly cozy venue that would make for a great date spot. I like this place so much that I check their website on a weekly basis to see what's showing next, and my only real complaint is that they're not showing enough!
I don't usually feel the urge to review movie theaters but for the cinesphere I figured I'd make an exception. It's hard not to have nostalgia for a place like this which perhaps clouds my view. I like the faux futuristic appeal of a large geodesic dome. Not to mention the interconnecting bridges/hallways that suggest what it might have been like to live in the moon as imagined in the 60s. If only there were a monorail. Inside is one of the larger imax screens. One that almost manages the illusion that you're in the film. If you sit near the center the screen can encapsulate your entire field of vision. It's general admission so get here early if the movie is likely to sell out. While I'd definitely come back in the future the place does have some drawbacks. Location leaves it in an awkward spot transit wise. Also once you've found your seats it is a slight trek to the washrooms with the women's being on the opposite side of the building to the men's and finally if the movie you see is popular then good luck getting anything from the concession stand because they don't seem to have enough people working behind it to keep up with demand.
The biggest screen I've ever seen. The best place in Canada to see a large for at movie. Possibly the best in the world. A little hard to get to though.
My favorite island theater playing iconic movies!
After years of being closed, it's so great to see that the Cinesphere has been renovated and revived. I just saw the Wizard of Oz here in 3D and loved the experience. The seats and atmosphere are on par with a regular theater. Pro tips: the …
Gotta love the massive screen!
Great place. Only drawbacks: Concessions gets backed up. Many seats aren't useable, IMO, so it sucks if it's sold out and you get stuck in one of these. Seats seem to be narrow for people with wide shoulders or hips.
Zero customer service. Nobody answers the phone.
A nice theatre outside of the big chains. Comfortable seats, beautiful screen, good sound too.
Really cozy atmosphere where the theatre staff are very friendly. The popcorn wasn't good though - it was extremely salty without much flavor. Love that they're screening classics!
Great theatre, easy parking
Great screen and atmosphere, but if you are taking public transit to get here, leave now! It is close to nothing via TTC or GO, quite a hike especially in the dark & cold months. If you can get here by car or bike, do that instead and you'll have a great time. Staff is friendly and seats are fine. Washrooms fill up quickly as they are small.
I love going there for an Imax experience. Price a little bit too expensive.
First of all, there parking is horrible. I went down to the parking hour and a half prior to the movie starts, and apparently they only have 1 parking booth operates for thousands of cars trying to get in. They take your cash and give you a ticket to put on dash board. I mean it's 2018 and i can't believe they are still using such method. There is also no TTC available at there location. So my suggestion would be taking a cab or uber there. If you wish to drive, might go 2 hours early. The theater itself is small. The day that i went, the whole theatre was packed. Some of the good thing is that the screen is huge (also because i was seated quite close to the screen) and the sound is good. But with technology nowadays, IMAX already did as well as Cinesphere. So a TL;DL, the parking is so horrible that i can't justify the benefit to go to Cinephere rather than other Cineplex theater with IMAX.
The original IMAX movie screen.
The screen is great. We watched Free Solo and the scenery was breathtaking. The down side is the seats are not too comfortable and there are better sound systems out there. IMAX used to be the thing but there are better movie theatres out there now.
Dark night and 2001 in 70mm imax. Enough said
Its a long walk from the streetcar stop so give yourself an extra 10 minutes of travel time. Use the raised boardwalk. When we were there the air conditioning was broken - but it was a decent theatre in terms of seats & screen
Movie fantastic, awesome experience the walk across the mighty bridge is exciting. Food was expensive as expected, and the layout is a little awkward just because of the building's unique shape.
The original IMAX theatre. If you like what Imax does, you owe it to yourself to see one here. The outside is pretty dilapidated at this point, but don't worry, the theatre itself is well maintained and very pleasant. The film I saw recently was very loud, so be warned that may happen.
Parking is paid in advance, and then they refund part of it. The movie started later than advertised, and the popcorn was burnt. But we saw top gun in IMAX 3d...
(Translated) Very beautiful this place (Original) Muy bellooooo este lugar
Get there early for your showing since if you are in the first 3 rows your neck is gonna snap
I have very fond memories of the cinesphere including Ontario Place growing up as a kid from the early 70s to the mid 80s. I spent a lot of free time exploring this place in the early during spring break and early summer. During the winter months I spent my time exploring the Ontario Science Center. That was before I moved far away to live in the mountains and plush temperate valley's of Lotus land.
Had a wonderful time watching Tenet in 15/70mm the way it was meant to be seen! Much nicer experience than going to a filthy Cineplex for a dim video presentation. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the image and sound were fantastic.
Cool place, glad they reopened, brings back lots of memories. However the place feels a bit out of date. Not very accessible, only two bathrooms, and you can't book your seats ahead. First come first serve
Hadn't been since seeing an IMAX documentary when I was a kid, and was not disappointed. The screen was as huge as I remembered, the crowd was into the movie, and the beer and popcorn were delicious. We'll definitely be going more now.
Excellent theater! Beautiful sound and gorgeous screen!!
Cool place to catch an Imax flick!
SEATS ARE NOT FRIENDLY TOWARDS BIG BOTTOMED PEOPLE. ????
Don't get me wrong the screen is a solid 5/5 and so was the Tenet Prologue feature before my screening of Inception but everything else leaves a lot to be desired. The seats are small and cramped, the concession stand is barebones with average tasting nachos and watered down soda and there is no booked seating when even lesser theaters have it as a default option now.
Everything is great except for the seats and washrooms, which are frustratingly small and uncomfortable
loved it there!!
This was super interesting. Open usually weekends, arrive earlier to get a better seat.
Beautiful renovation and amazing IMAX system. Definitely a place to visit and remember! Chairs are not very comfortable (at all), but the experience makes up for it.
Best Imax 3D experience in Toronto
Great place , gently staff , nice big screen. I liked it very much because of the screen , it was like I lived the movie. But , ... , the seats are not that good as the rest place... the one line of seats is very close to the other one. I get so tired until the movie is done. My knees were hurting, I don't have knees problem...
Nothing beats seeing a movie here.
One of the coolest places to watch a movie! The theatre plays primarily non current films but that is not a downside. Any film you see on this screen is a new experience. Ticket prices are very fair and you can get discounted parking for $5 when seeing your movie. Keep checking their website as they switch films out every weekend!
Everyone needs to experience this. Plus the view!
Amazing morning walking around the Cinesphere Theatre and capturing photos of different views and angles. It was a perfect day to capture this Toronto icon. Perfect areas for families to enjoy. All of the grounds and trails open to view and enjoy. Great for walks, running, biking and sight seeing.
Not entirely sure why the building is a sphere, but at least it looks cool. Movies look cool on the screen here too and tickets aren't over the top expensive. Great place.
Excellent sound and picture quality and size. The only downside is it get sold out to the seat so you're packed in there like sardines.
Great theater
Seats arent that big. Everything else is perfect
A fun experience and im glad its open again. I wish it was a little easier to find, as my Uber driver got lost and we were late for the movie, but we had fun either way
Horrible food quality, small seats and vsry crowded!
I have had the best experiences here. Patrons of the most beautiful movies ever created, gather here in this large IMAX dome to experience movies the right way, the IMAX way. This is the way.
Needs Air conditioning
Fantastic
Totally exceeded my expectations. What an amazing theater. The Cinesphere may be old but the theater inside is completely modern. Tickets are cheaper than my local Cineplex. If your going for the first time (or the first time in over a decade like me) use the website for parking and directions. You have to pay for parking but you get a refund at the theater if you bring the parking receipt. I will definitely be going back.
No seat is bad. Very large screen, great for movies or documentaries.
We used to go and enjoy movies here in the past.
Excellent IMAX venue! Plus, one of the coolest-looking buildings anywhere.
Excellent IMAX venue! Plus, one of the coolest-looking buildings anywhere.
Seats arent that big. Everything else is perfect
Do you like sitting on top of each other and sitting in a pool of your own sweat? Then Cinesphere is for you! The seats are 1980’s small, jammed next to each other, concession stand prices are about 25% higher than Cineplex and oh... no air conditioning. Went to a crammed Batman Returns showing that was sold out. It’s cramped and hot and I’m not really enjoying this at all. But they serve beer, so that’s going for them.
A great COVID-19 experience. Who knew!
Poor access for pedestrians. Like walking into an abandoned building.
Bigger than it needed to be
Amazing experience
I saw Enter the Dragon here and it was awesome. No one checks your bag or anything, so you can bring your own booze and snacks.
It's just a movie theatre with a huge screen. It's not a dome shaped screen. I was expecting to be laying down and looking up at a huge spherical screen. Still, quite an impressive movie theatre.
(Translated) The architectural style is novel, unique and very beautiful! (Original) 建筑风格新颖、别致,十分漂亮!
The IMAX screen was actually very impressive. Wish there was more food and drink option
Enjoyed Wonder Woman
A truly wonderful place to experience the true impact of a film in 70mm or IMAX
Awesome experience!
good snacks and good quality picture.
The experience is surreal. The IMAX experience knocks a solid punch.
Great theater! I saw 28 Days later here for a special screening, and it was terrifying and awesome. Really unique and enjoyable theater.
Loved everything but the small seats. Best screen I have seen in a while
Absolutely loved the experience. So this was my first time at a permanent IMAX theatre. The movie I decided to watch was, Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan. Before the movie even begins, comes up, a short monologue by Nolan thanking us to take the time and watch the movie in a 70mm format, the way it was supposed to be seen. The screen is huge and sort of has a dome shape effect to it. The seats can definitely be better, but Don't worry, you're not here for that. In short, I enjoyed the Screening and at the end, everyone applauded Nolan's work. A good place for the weekend evening.
Unique landmark
Went to see the movie Inception, I arrive 10min before start and it was pack but I had a great time even on the front row. The sound and the video quality are great. The down side is the parking was the price of 2 entrances !!
The Cinesphere is hands down the best cinema experience you can have in Toronto. The best sound and picture quality bar-none. Food options are standard fare with popcorn, soda, various candies and hot dogs. They also serve a small selection of beer in tall cans (Ace, Millstreet organic, Corona). Hint about the bathrooms - if you are looking at the screen the men’s is on the right and women’s on the left. Parking is available on site, 5 dollars when you show your ticket. Highly recommend either going early or staying late to check out all that Ontario place has to offer. It’s a beautiful walking site with views of two sky lines.
Watch a documentary or animated movie here, you will not regret it!!!
Best screen ever
NOT the same thing as Omnimax! Very deceiving from the outside
Incredible picture and sound, unlike any theatre I've experienced before. ????????
The movie experience was fine but it was hard to find the entrance and we walked around the freezing park for way too long.
The best 3D exibition films!
Clean, lots of seats. Cool experience, a little expensive though.
Such a good experience, the theatre was beautiful! Definitely will be our go to date night spot :)
My family and I recently visited so we could watch the award-winning documentary “Free Solo.” The movie was really good! The seats in the theatre are comfy but I wish they had more variety at the concession stand. It was a bit of a walk to get to the theatre itself but for the most part it was enclosed, which is good since the day we went it was very cold and windy. Plus the views are great!
Love it. Only thought is that perhaps they could do assigned seating with ticket purchase.
I am not from Toronto, and i do not have any idea about the history of this place. The staff are super nice, the theater is good; however, the place so empty. i was literally the only one there. the other problem is that the place is not easily accessible using public transportation. At the end, If you are a visitor and do not have a car i do not recommend this place.
The Cinesphere is in serious need of a complete overhaul. The theatre and screen are large but the seats are uncomfortable. The concession stand offers the bare basics: popcorn, candy, soft drinks. The place is also difficult to get to with public transport and using the parking lot is expensive.
Slowest ticket booth ever
You want to see a movie in it’s true form. Go big with Cinesphere. Super fun.
It’s not very convenient to get to, but I love this place. The movie selection is usually quite interesting (even if somewhat limited) and the place is breathtaking.
Went to see the new Moon movie. What an experience. Sound quality and I can't believe the remastered footage from the 60's. Great experience all round. To bad the the Ontario Place park itself doesn't really have much to do any longer. It was a blast visiting both the CNE and Ontario Place back in the day. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have our water front park back in full swing.
Everything was great. Cheap parking
Great staff and picture. Sound had an echo
Amazing experience!
Movie was advertised in IMAX and was not delivered that way. I was unaware parking had cost. Ended up with a parking ticket. And sadly cinesphere is full of cobwebs and really needs some maintenance. Was looking forward to have a blast from the past and was saddened.
cool air flowing over ny head uncomfortable for a December show
Wow. Pros: the remastered cut of 2001: A Space Odyssey looked incredible, the screen is incredible. Cons: The popcorn was horrible. The lobby smelled like industrial soap had spilled somewhere. The seats were surprisingly narrow.
O lycomplain is howcold it is at short lake
A rather unique place to go watch IMAX movies. Just the walk on the bridge is worth it!
I you get a chance to take kids to a movie here do it.. The experience is surreal as they walk over the cat walk and see the water below.
Finally I had a chance to watch one of my favorite movies The Dark Knights in the grandeur screen. It didn't fail to amaze me, such an immersive experience. Sheer size of the screen with the scenes shot in IMAX camera would be all over your face. And the highlight part is the sound system which will knock your socks off. It made me realize what I've really missed in the usual theatres. Though my main complaint is the worst seats, it's so so small and cramped. For an interval free movie it's highly painful to sit through the full movie. Overall, one need to sacrifice the comfort for an amazing visual experience.
The Cinesphere is a beautiful building, yet it does betray its age. Being the first movie theatre of the kind in Canada, it does have historic value and a gorgeous grounds to visit while you wait for entry time. It has been renewed, but it is of note that the seats are smaller than the modern standard, and wheelchair access might be difficult in colder weather. There is plenty of helpful and friendly staff readily available. It should be noted that the popcorn was not as satisfying as other concession stands. The best reason to seriously consider a visit to the Cinesphere is the broad offering of classic and modern films, a selection proper for any cinephile's tastes. A highly recommendable experience.
Fun family night.
Free solo was awesome to see. Cinesphere needs some work on the walk in but screen and theatre are well maintained
This theatre is the few remaining imaxs with a film projector, they place old movie series at a nominal price, just make sure you get 30 minutes early as the food contest line might be long and there isn't reserved seating! Love this theatre!
Wonderful experience! Very cool! Just saw Purplerain
Still one of the coolest places around to see a film. Ontario Place needs to desperately work on their signage though.
Meh
Really great IMAX theater. If you go see a movie that is not originally formatted for imax then it maybe underwhelming, but the IMAX movies are spectacular. The parking situation on the other hand is extremely sub par. This may depend on the time of year and what other events are happening the same day, but the parking can be a nightmare with cars lined up on Lakeshore Blvd. waiting to get in. There is only one parking attendant at each lot and this soon becomes a problem when some cars take more than 5 minutes at the booth. The only caviat is that the parking for movies is half price. The staff at the cinesphere seem to understand this because they will usually delay the start of the movie by 15 or 20 minutes so people can get in and get popcorn and such. Overall great place to see a movie and they show a lot of classics, but leave earlier than you'd think, especially if you are driving down.
Pretty clean. Great view during the Christmas holiday at night.
(Translated) This place is great! ! ! The audiovisual effect is invincible. I participated here in the re-enactment of the Dark Knight trilogy. The huge IMAX screen shows 70mm film shooting. The dark Knight and the dark knight's rise are so shocking that you can see such audiovisual effects here.
Very clean considering how old this place is
Always had such an eye-opening time (3rd eye that is) here. Favorite film: "North Of Superior" which led me to move to Thunder Bay in 1975. I also saw "2001: A Space Odyssey" with my dad, uncle & grandfather over Christmas holidays in 1972 - amazing! Fond memories of days gone by.
Friend took me here on my birthday. Watched an amazing film and felt like it was something out of the ordinary. The place is amazing
Saw Free Solo and it was amazing on the giant screen.
Great experience for a movie with great atmosphere
So much retro fun
I visited the cinesphere recently for a viewing of 2001: a space odyssey, my favourite movie. I had grown up watching on VHS and DVD, so this was my first opportunity to watch the classic on the big screen. I was super excited. I was not disappointed. First off, walking through Ontario Place at night is like wandering through an abandoned (and probably haunted) amusement park. In a fun way! But also in a scary way. The elevator up to the cinesphere was dilapidated and malfunctioning. I was sure HAL was about to spit my partner and I through the roof and out into the void. Regardless, the cinema itself has comfy seats, a majestic screen, and the popcorn was dope. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience and staff, always a good time.
The audiovisual experience of "Blade Runner 2049" was simply astounding. You will feel as well as hear all the sound effects. Be sure to sit at the center of the very top row for the best viewing angle.
Get a seat early!!!
This place is incredible, we drove 6 hours from Montreal to see interstellar and we were pleasantly surprised. This place is a gem for the cinema buff. Once we finished watching our films we went outside to see the sunset, this place is something else!
Watched the dark Knight here. Great experience
The experience is like no other. It's a bit of a walk from the 511 terminal. So if you're planning to go there by TTC, make sure you leave a lil early
Great cinema experience. No ads or previews and the best quality picture and sound
Awesome place for movies.
We went to the Cinisphere after seeing an advertisement for a movie we wanted to see, and seeing it there would be a great experience due to the size of the screen. We showed up early not sure how crowded it would be. We were sad to discover the very low turnout. The theater is renovated, new seats, new washrooms, and yet, the same great big screen as I recalled it as a kid in the 70s. In fact, the whole park was in the process of improving its ghost shell, to sadly, only a few visitors. Shadows of the past life this park had were everywhere. I couldn't help but reminisce over all the excursions I've had to the park in its glory days. Many, many fond memories. I am not sure what the future holds for the park, but it remains an integral part of Toronto's waterfront. I will continue to seek out events and other movies at the park, simply for its historical purpose. Maybe one day it can be revised to something as exciting as it was to the 70s generation, to a new one.
Great experience, many aspects of the theatre are unchanged, great venue!
Watched interstellar in imax after missing out on it while it was in theaters, 10/10 experience, highly recommended If you are thinking of coming here consider arriving at least an hour ahead, I came 50 min before the start and it was already pretty packed
Movies supposed to start at 4:15. Now 4:30 and still waiting. Seems like this might be the only theatre that can’t keep track of time.
Loved being back at this amazing theatre. Newly renovated, even better then ever. Hopefully the film's will continue though the winter
Very nice location .needs a lot of improvement .just one shop for beverage and snacks with limited products .no coffee for example... seats in theatre not comfortable...
Great shared film experience!-It brought back wonderful memories! Please don't give up on Ontario Place!!
Very few 70mm cinemas left in the world, this is one of them. Even through they don't play very often, at least you have the real laser IMAX as a backup.
We went to see an early Saturday showing of Tenet. The popcorn was DISGUSTING. overpriced, yes, but it seemed they just scooped last night's batch in and let it fly. We threw it out, but they were so aggressive about COVID spacing and direction we just said to hell with it and left.
What a waste.. just shaped like a sphere from outside.. plain old 2d screens inside
Awesome thank you
Real Imax experience! The sound is incredible!
Fantastic screen! Biggest in Ontario. Audio sounded great. Really friendly staff. They serve beer. Seats are microscopic tho. I'm a big tall guy. Knees were almost on the shoulders of the guy Infront of me. Backs hurting a little. Knees were sore. Small stature people rejoice. You'll be fine.
Not well cared for
The area is really pretty! Great for walks, events, picnic, biking, and skating!
Went here for blade runner 2049. It’s an experience! Also, initially booked tickets for wrong day, emailed customer service a week in advance and it was resolved within a few days. It’s not a part of cineplex, and customer service is solid here
Watch new releases and relive classics in the world's first permanent IMAX cinema. Yes the snacks are overpriced, no you can't reserve seating, yes the seats are a little tighter than typical cinemas... BUT it's well worth the trip to see a movie here. Have seen Die Hard, Princess Bride and more and have enjoyed it every time.
Always a great experiance since i was young Also im the 500th reviewer lol yay!
Just next to the lake Ontario. Charming views.
Not crowded, great service
One of the best screens ever... I keep coming back to watch my favourites.
Classic. Iconic. See a movie here if you can. Ontario place has a bit of a post apocalyptic vibe these days, but it is still classic architecture and who know how long it will be before DOFO bulldoozes it for his casino.
Lets save it!!!
Definitly the nicest walk into a movie theater of the city. After crossing the water you enter at the centre of the sphere and into the theatre where you are met with a giant screen detailing all the information on IMAX and it's history in Ontario. You do want to arrive early because even tho all the seats are good, it being the only screen seats go quick if your in a big group and its first come first served. I've sat in the middle and on the sides and the viewing experience as well as the sound was great in each seat.
Always a cool experience at this theatre
A jewel - they'll replay phenomenal movies on a first class IMAX screen and sound system. Well worth the price of admission for movie buffs
Old and stinky
UX needs work. Confusing parking and Google navigation. Reserved seating has been key a few years ago.
Food is pricey but the cinema itself is good.
I went to watch Interstellar, with my experience I didn't feel that the experience was better than UltraAVX. But its you to decide. Seats are very tight as it makes it difficult to eat popcorn even. This place is not like a typical cinema where you have multiple screens so relatively they have a smaller food shop with less people which means you will have to wait a little longer to get your food.
The screen is an actual, full size imax, and the movies selection is usually great. One of the best movie theaters in Toronto, if not the best. I'm a regular.
Big screen. Big sound. Historic first IMAX screen in the world.
I love this place. Even though it was recently renovated, it still has the feeling on an old theatre. The quality of the projection and the sound are fabulous.
It was my 1st time at the Cinesphere and this was the 1st time they showed a live sporting event in IMAX. Amazing fan atmosphere picture and sound was great.
Saw Titanic with my daughter. Old school but cool!
No leg room.
Great
Always enjoy the Cinesphere.
Nice big screen with great sound system
Amazing selected movies in one of the biggest screens on the country. Also, one of the best popcorns (if not the best) in the city.
The absolute best place to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I love movies and always stay updated on what movies they're bringing in. I had the opportunity to see The Dark Knight trilogy here and it was an awesome event. I look forward to going back soon. The IMAX screen is incredible
Waste of time, horrible customer service. A group of us purchased tickets online to view an IMAX movie. A few hours before showing we were informed by email the show was cancelled due to a technical reason. Almost a month has gone by, several emails and phone-calls later...still no refund received! They canceled our event and now we're struggling with them to get our money back for the service they didn't provide. Not cool.
Great experience!
Such a great place to see a movie! Largest screen in Ontario. Best of all they show 70mm IMAX films in film, which is very hard to find!
It’s a cool looking theatre, but I thought the screen would be round and go up over the ceiling like at the science center. Nonetheless, it’s a huge imax screen and I love how they do showings of older films! Concession stand could have some more options (coffee, tea, snacks other than popcorn) but overall I love coming here!
Huge screen, few movie choices
They have really small seats, it hurt my legs. Other than that it waa delightful.
IMAX Laser with 12 channels of sound — what’s not to like?
A great architecture
Such a cool place! Hope the new development plans will be conducted wisely
This theatre was the first permanent Imax theatre in the world. It was state of the art when it was built in the early 1970s and still is today. Sound system is loud and good quality. Seats are comfortable.
Come Early to sit in the middle. We arrived a little late so we had to sit at the edge and front so it wasn’t a very good experience.
If you're looking for the best movie watching experience in Toronto, the Cinesphere is a clear winner. The rotation of movies is fantastic and ranges from classics to recent blockbusters, there's something playing here for everyone.
I think during summer camp we watched a movie here
Went to opening night of Eternals, was my first time there. It was a pain to travel to and from, had cramped seats, a 25-minute line for meh concessions, and the central speaker was off-sync/echoing dialog the whole movie.
Even though I was a little bit disappointed discovering you cannot buy anything but pops and corn it's really awesome. We watched Dunkirk. Powerful sound, precise picture, full immersion.
(Translated) The screen is large and the sound works. But the air conditioning was off today, so it was hot inside the theater. (Original) A tela é grande e o som funciona. Mas o ar condicionado estava desligado hoje, então estava quente dentro do cinema.
Came here for my last real night out with friends before locking myself in as an entrepreneur at Drinks & Dragons. They choose the movie and I had no idea what to expect. We get there and it's princess bride. There was something magical in the air and everyone in the theatre was laughing, and having an amazing time. We then went and walked through the outdoor light garden and chatted. It was a magical time and place. I'll miss you Ontario place and cinesphere.
It's an odd location for an old movie theater.
Such an amazing experience for enjoying film. Go see something there, now
Great big screen experience. Terrible popcorn.
Great theatre, comfortable seats. Lots of walking to get to theatre
Great revamped theatre to take in a show.
used to be a great place
A great place to see movies. Make sure you come early to get a good spot. They also have a liquor license if you feel like a beer.
Amazing theatre with the best screen! The seating is not spacious or comfortable which is why it's only 4 stars.
Best IMAX experience you will have in Toronto.
Ontario Place is quite run down, but the theatre is OK.
If you want to sit in a sauna, come to this place! Aeration is the worst, inside the theater is so hot and far.. not coming back
I remember coming here to see North of Superior the year the Cinesphere opened. I recently saw Free Solo here and it remains an amazing experience.
(Translated) Excellent place (Original) Excelente lugar
Went to Cinesphere after many years. Loved the location and the playlist the have for the upcoming movies. Comfortable setting. The washrooms are renovated.
Had the best time watching Tenet with my buddies ...
This place is a treasure. Love the movies they show and the location. A hidden gem <3
Really Awesome place to visit. Just wish seats were more comfortable.
The movie was good to watch with the screen and sound system but the need face lift I think they did not upgrade the place since 1978. Water leaks from the roof.
Great place to see movies Saw BladeRunner on the huge screen! Hopefully the government does not close it down- highly recommended
Every time I am impressed! An extraordinary experience
Smells a bit musty, and not so easy to get to but a really fun and different experience. This place has a bit of history so glad they opened it again. Wasn’t too busy when I went, I expect this will change in the summer. Parking in the area is a bit shocking, but they do have a reduced lot right by the entrance.
Big, high-res screen
Love to watch all the boats and people are so friendly
The IMAX experience is great and the prices for snacks are excellent. However, the seats and the legroom are rather small. When seeing a long movie, like Interstellar, everyone is happy to leave because everything hurts ;) The cheaper parking for enjoying a movie is another great plus! I will consider to enjoy another movie there.
Amazing theater with an intense sound system!! Best Imax theater to watch 75mm films.
Very glad they re-opened this theatre. Still in very decent shape, great picture quality and sound. They play old classics now, like theatres used to. Prices are reasonable.
Really enjoyed the NASA production "A Beautiful Planet " in IMAX
I saw Enter the Dragon here and it was awesome. No one checks your bag or anything, so you can bring your own booze and snacks.
Really tiny and chaotic concession area. Could use some revamping.
Fun place to watch movie with kids. Uou can visit the light show and other closeby attractions.
Still a great place to experience a movie !
Best movie watching spot
Love sitting back and being emerged here. Saw bladerunner this year. Still beats the fancy new theaters.
Very cool venue. Nice concessions and seating.
Always great to go back. We saw North of the Superior when it first opened.
Awesome place to watch a movie
Great theatre and amazing piece of history.
Saw Free Solo there. First time in over 20 years. I'll be back!
Excellent venue. Nothing beats the big screen experience. Great sound too.
Went and saw jaws. Was a wonderful experience. Have not been to cinesphere to watch a movie in probably two decades or longer. Brought back some wonderful memories. Just be warned that there could be multiple different events going on at the same time as the movie meaning if you drive arriving and leaving could be long. I will be back though. A lot of fantastic movies are lined up and I cannot wait to see them again on an impressive screen with fantastic sound.
Best place in Toronto to see a movie.
This is a great spot to see an IMAX film on a huge screen. They have a small concession stand that serves beer, popcorn and the usual snacks. There is lots of parking nearby or you can take transit (it is a little bit of a walk though). I would recommend checking what is playing as you can catch some classic movies on the big screen.
Parking is a major problem. If other events are taking place at Ontario place, there's a huge line-up to get into the parking lot. TTC is not an option. The only good seats are higher up and in the middle, the rest of the seats do not have good sight-lines. Also seats are not comfortable and the backs are not high enough.
Glad it's still around
it is so cool to watch movies that are the same price as regular movies just older but superfine!!!!!
I love that they are showing classic movies in Imax
We attended an event during Doors Open Toronto. We advance booked free tickets to see "North of Superior" and a Batman trailer. Having arrived at Ontario Place there was no signage directing us to Cinesphere which is not obvious due to construction and parts of the park still being in mothballs. We arrived at the theater, had our tickets scanned and took our seats. We watched North of Superior which is only of casual interest since it was the first film shown at Cinesphere but is now 40 years out of date. Then the screen went blank, after sitting for several minutes a rumour started to spread that the trailer had been cancelled. After tracking down an employee we were told that indeed it had been cancelled because at the last performance the level of violence had made some children cry, meanwhile we had children crying because they did not get to see the trailer. My main complaint is that they had ample opportunity to tell us this beforehand yet did not bother and after the fact no one we spoke to was in a position to do anything, the whole thing was in the hands of junior employees. If this is the level of competence and organization I can expect I will not be returning.
Saw Die Hard on xmas, loved it
The massive imax screen is breathtaking. I highly recommend.
Awesome movie theater with a great history and story behind it. And shows some truly classic and amazing movies regularly. Rate 5/5 am going again!
Awesome! Watched The Polar Express in 3D. Beer is reasonable and the sound system will shake your seat.
Absolutely awesome!
Very nostalgic, but the seats aren't as comfortable as a modern theatre. The lack of leg room left my knees aching by the end of the movie.
It's a fantastic venue, and the movie started immediately. No 20 minutes of commercials, no 30 minutes of previews!
Love the old school vibe and old school movies.
Great spot. Old but a great retro experience.
Retro movies such as 2001 Space Odyssey and Blade Runner on the big screen is a 5* experience here.
Loved the imax documentaries.... Mostly the first one... North of the superior felt so real.
Great space-age theatre decaying with age. Revived to promote a retro lineup of movies. The staff are what you would expect from a Cineplex, the price as well. Food variety is limited but classic, hot dogs and popcorn. With a massive screen, sitting high up is recommended but fills field of view. With a large projector, a lot of light reflects into the dark black paint which is distracting since your can see the architecture which isn't as pleasing from the decor from some small theatres. Only major problems with this massive, one theatre cinema is the distance from light rail and only best accessible by car. Located about 200 metres from the box office. Quite inconvenient but a rarity. Hopefully they remain open for many more years to exhibit movies from our past.
Awesome experience
The experience was amazing specially because of the movie. Great sound and I'm glad you have that heated bridge
Probably the best place in Ontario to enjoy The IMAX experience. Whether its a Hollywood produced theatrical or a documentary shown your seeing it in the best visual and sound quality. Best quality meaning that the Cinesphere is equipped with both the Rolls Royce (sans TM) 70mm IMAX projector and the newest IMAX Laser projector which is currently 1 of 2 for non private viewing in all of Canada! This also means movies can be shown continuously. Which means a 70mm print can be shown and then switched to show another movie on Laser. It also seems that the sound systems for 70mm projection has been retained along with the new sound system for IMAX with Laser. No IMAX digital projector in the booth... Yes! So if the 70mm print fails they can show the Laser version which is superior then just showing the movie on the digital projector. Trust me, You will want to see Dunkirk on 70mm IMAX film over the IMAX Digital Projection. You will want to see Dunkirk on IMAX with Laser if you can't see it in 70mm IMAX film. The only thing I don't like are the seats cause I'm so used to the seating at Toronto's Scotiabank Theatre. But to be honest, if you been to an OG IMAX theatre from the 90s it's the same type of non leather, and non reclining seats such as the Omnimax at the OSC. Please give Cinesphere a shot! Parking is only $5 depending on where you park. Hopefully more new theatrical release are added to the future schedule.
Watched The Dark Knight Here. It is a really great film. Great experience.
Watched The Dark Knight Here. It is a really great film. Great experience.
I went to see Fight Club with a friend, though I had arrived early. While waiting, wandering around aimlessly and exploring, the staff were very friend and kind. One lady was mopping the floor, and the other was scanning tickets. They politely asked if I was looking for something, and informed me of the food truck festival that has happening today outside. In some places waiting for someone can feel unnerving, but here I felt perfectly welcome. The food service attendants were polite, and as someone who has worked that industry before, they seemed to be enjoying work (and that is incredibly important). The theatre was clean - no sticky floors, or left over garbage or popcorn. The sound wasn't terribly loud, as in Cineplex theatres. It was perfect for those with auditory sensitivity. It wasn't too soft, that voices were too quiet to hear, and not ear-shattering. The Cinesphere has a sense of privacy, and I really enjoyed that. I would definitely visit again.
The theater itself is fantastic! There to see Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX. The picture was... Big and sound was loud bordering on painful. Highly recommend especially for IMAX format.
Caught the new 2001 print here yesterday. Projection and sound were good and the seats were comfortable (film had a 3 hour running length so that was important for this one). I live nearby and will definitely be back. Prices are a bit cheaper than other IMAX theaters in the city ($15) and parking is cheap given the area ($5 with your ticket, you have to get refunded at the box office).
Saw Tenet, it was amazing. Very safe and secure
Ample seating and those walkways are warm in the Winter
Quality of screening exceeded expectations. A toronto gem.
For the people!
Brings back memories of when I was younger, great place to watch movies, no matter where you sit in the theater.
Conccession stand is non existent. Only sells small bottles of over priced pop. The seats are small and cant be adjusted. The "imax screen" really isint impressive, and the structure is poorly designed. Entrance is on one floor, bathroom on another, concessions on anothr, and theres no elevator. Waste of money.
Wicked place to watch movies
The best place to watch great movies. On the last visit they were not serving alcohol (beer / wine) when I asked why they said they have to apply weekly for a liquor license, and no one did this week. Really? Cinesphere you have a great thing going here, stop acting like a government department.
The Best experience watching movies ,and if you like classic movies and love sound then it's THE place to visit. You will get popcorn and beverages at this place First come first serve based seating arrangement .. In conclusion this place is awesome to watch movies
Real fun time
We love our local theater in Ajax!
Great renovation, play cult classics
Screen is absolutely massive and the sound is great. Well worth seeing one of your favorites there.
I saw the Dark knight here last week. I found out that I could only sit so close to the screen and requested 2 ladies( staff) in the cinema hall to find me a single seat somewhere else. Since the hall was full they gave me their own chair in the middle of the hall and I could enjoy the screening. Thank you so much for this wonderful gesture. ????. The screen was big and the biggest I have ever experienced in any IMAX theatre. Will definitely be returning for more. Sound system was excellent too????????????
Great new sound system
Clean theatre, no big crowds, staff attentive when buying popcorn.
That was a good time, seeing Alien on the big screen can't be beat
Saw Tenet at Cinesphere last night. Covid has changed the movie going experience, but I'm not complaining. Capacity was limited to 50 people, seats were well spaced out. There were no lines to get in, or at the women's washroom. You get escorted to your seat with a briefing on the rules. It was all quite good. The movie is course was excellent.
My wife and I watched E.T. at the Cinesphere and it was Magical! The screen alone is mind-blowingly gigantic and immersive! It’s closer to the audience and the only true remaining IMAX screen anywhere. The sound is great and thunderous without being too deafening. The seats could definitely be updated though. They are too small and strangely too close to each other. Aside from that, if you want something different than the usual megaplex theatres, the Cinesphere is a very unique movie going experience. Whether a new release movie or a classic, watch it at the Cinesphere! Enjoy!
Cinephere was great. Campfire by the water was great. Light displays were lovely.
Love they are showing older films. Newly renovated bathrooms and still a fantastic theater. Maybe open the doors earlier or enlarge the concessions area as it's line does not diminish from doors opening to movie start. I was not expecting a fair sized lineup 45 minutes before showtime get there early.
Its a great place to see a movie - but the snack bar needs improving - like coffee and tea!
Food was a little pricy but the atmosphere more than made up for it. Comfortable seating too. And they have a thing where you can pick movies that they play
not too bad....not too friendly at the box office ...manager is nice
Went to see 2001 here. It was painfully loud, actually louder than some metal concerts I've to. Seats are also quite small. 2 people in our group are somewhat above average size who found it very uncomfortable. I will not return again because of the volume
Cool IMAX theater, Ontario place is nice to walk around.
(Translated) Very good care (Original) Muy bien cuidado
The Cinesphere and Ontario Place may be my all time favourite spot in the city. Fantastic theatre, and super cool vibe to the building and surrounding grounds. Can't get this experience anywhere else, it is wholy unique. Love it!
The theatre is very good, but I felt that the seats were a little uncomfortable.
It's a nice theatre to watched movies. The seats are very comfortable to sit on. The screen is huge and the row in front of us, that the people's heads are not on our view. …
A jewel
Glad they re-opened. Actual inside of cinesohere is well maintained. Hallways leading up to it, not so much.
Great movie venue. Concessions area could be a little more appealing but otherwise a great time. Seats are a little close together which kind of bugged me considering the number of empty seats. Movie selection is rather limited. I feel that this theater was not living up to the potentially great theater it could be. Possibly a renovation, and a promotional redevelopment is needed moving into the future. IMAX3D is the best form of 3D, you must try it.
Beautiful winter exhibit & classic movies on the big screen!
I'm giving this a 3 star because of the lack of management and customer service regarding parking. I went on boxing day and drove down. I had the expectation of a long wait time to get into the lot but I did not expect to wait over an hour for parking. The email I got after purchasing the tickets stated that there was no cash parking accepted and to park in the lot closest to the Cinesphere, which is EXACTLY what I planned for. What I didn't plan for was security to not let me into the parking lot and having to drive 2 lots over and beg the parking attendant to let me in because I had no cash. The girl working the parking was nice enough to spot me the $2 to my $3 in nickels and dimes of left over change I had in my car; thankful for her. My friend inside waiting for me asked someone working and they said the movie was starting at 7:30 and I would have had time to find parking and a seat by the time I actually got into one of the lots. At 7:15 I got a message from her saying the movie started. The only available seats were at the front row which makes for a not very enjoyable viewing experience after the movie had started. Had there been better management over the event an e-mail should have gone out to ticket holders warning of the traffic being confused for the winter lights festival and cash only parking. The time for the movie starting should have been clearly stated because on the facebook page it says one time and tickets say another making it difficult to clearly plan for unforseen circumstance. There should have also been a sign at the cinesphere parking lot stating it was for cinesphere customers. Poor management took away from my experience from enjoying an incredible movie and experience. I would go again and now that I know how poorly managed it is I would take transit.
Great IMAX experience.. better than cineplex. Though popcorns were not so good.
Great IMAX experience.. better than cineplex. Though popcorns were not so good.
Normally I would have rated this a lot higher but due to unforseen circumstances I was unable to go to a show I bought tickets for. They DO NOT give refunds at all. Terrible customer service on this. Completely unimpressed and soured my view of this place. Now I will be telling people about this experience rather than any previous good one. What a shame.
This was a beautiful cinema space. The seats are nicely spaced so that the row in front of you can't block your view of the film. The surrounding area (Ontario Place) is great too. The beer and popcorn was more affordable then regular cineplex. We really enjoyed our evening. Shame it isn't as popular as it could be.

Free Solo was incredible
Spiders
A lovely setting, all renovated and beautiful. Can't wait for more people to start coming and more programming
Brings back so many childhood memories, the screen is incredible, the sound was great. Saw Die Hard, we were cheering, laughing, this is how I remembered seeing movies as a kid. Nowadays movies are so quiet with no audience participation. I will be bringing my kids there to see Polar Express.
So many memories in this giant sphere.
Best imax screen in toronto by a mile !
Good to see movies you love in theatre for the nostalgia but doesn't have the same theatre effect that you would hope for if you were watching big blockbuster-type movies. Snacks are equally expensive as anywhere else.
Best theater for IMAX and 70 mm in the city.
Seats were outdated. Very uncomfortable for a long movie. Nothing special about it
Interesting location and building
Great piece of IMAX and Toronto history with both laser and 15/70 film screenings. The only drawback is the painful armrests.
Great memories with my kids
A movie for two and parking, less than $30!!! Bring your parking receipt for lot p1 to the ticket window and they will refund your credit card $20 of the $25 cost! Watched the aircraft carrier film, enjoyable and informative, awesome photography. Will be checking out the undersea movie next. Don't forget to keep your eyes open for million dollar yachts at the dock and hot cars in the parking lot.
Had a really fun time. This would be a good end to a nice summer day at Ontario Place. Concessions are a little lacking but not the end of the world.
Comfortable seats and licensed to serve alcohol. And of course the screen is amazing.
Saw 2001: A space odyssey on 70mm film, looks gorgeous on the big screen. Some artifacting and grain but thats to be expected. This Stanley Kubrick fan definitely would reccommend this place to anybody.
Can be confusing to get to in bad weather, especially without Google Maps cause it's too cold for one's phone to keep running. It's at least a 1 km walk from the nearest transit stop. However, the experience of trudging through the snow at -23C while strong winds from the lake BROUGHT that wind chill coupled with the amazing visuals and viscerally intense sound of the IMAX experience itself made the bleakness and desolateness of Blade Runner 2049 a truly immersive experience.
Cool date place if you're into IMAX movies
Great IMAX experience. Was freezing cold inside, bring a sweater,
Great sound and love watching older movies here. Also serve alcohol.
Great sound and love watching older movies here. Also serve alcohol.
very beautiful theater. ..need to work on marketing more to attract people
See awesome movies in a huge format in what looks and feels like a Bond villain's lair.
