Attended a documentary screening & social activism panel event held here. Facility is warm and well kept, staff was friendly and helpful despite a miscommunication about our event, and the surrounding neighborhood is charming.

LOVE the old - time look of the theater. It's actually larger than it looks from the outside. And even though it is a smaller venue, everything is in good shape, seats are clean and comfortable. Cute, small concession stand.

nothing short of dreadful. Narrow, very old seats with little padding, and armrests with no padding--your arms will sit on hard plastic ribs. The screen is unusually small--somewhat larger than a home theater, but not much larger. would never go back in 100 years.

Sean Colligan

awesome theater. lots of foreign, independent and documentary films, in a classic cinema atmosphere.

One of the best places in Fairfield County! Somewhat of a well-kept secret in this 1939 restored cinema. Excellent films with a lot of diversity. Great staff. The best popcorn in town. And people are really serious about watching the movie as opposed to talking.

Good movies.....but they stopped accepting MoviePass.

Every city should have a small vintage theatre. A great spot for small independent movies and documentaries. They even do the occasional cult classic on weeknights. The concession stands are fairly priced and the theatre was recently remodelled too boot. Go there and enjoy this local wonder. Given that the Avon is a non-profit teachers can apply for a educator pass which gets them into regular showings at no charge.

Old school movie theater in every sense. They have 1 very large and one smaller theater and they stick mainly limited release films. The staff is always very friendly and its great to be able to see new movies that wouldn't otherwise be shown at the normal theaters.

Beautiful small independent theater. Recently came for the first time to see Minari and we had an excellent experience. Coming to this theater makes you feel the elegance that theaters of the past possessed. I appreciate that the popcorn has real butter (upsetting that it's not the norm elsewhere) and that they also have a selection of beers. Would recommend for a date night or outing with friends.

Absolute, total treasure. Without it, downtown Stamford would be a total wasteland of expensive, ugly food and bars (I take that back, there is also the Library). 130,000 people in this city and at least there is one truly great and affordable venue for culture. Thanks for being there!

Lisa Piazza

Beautiful.

Chris Sadowski

Cozy and comfortable indie theater with a great selection of movies and concessions.

Nancy Northrop

Awesome local biz - but only the main theater is special. The smaller screen is not the same experience. Great location.

Winston Potter

Great movies, great staff & great fun.

Cathy Dillon

The Avon theater is a historic building and has been a movie venue for a long time. They make an effort to show interesting and off the beaten path films. At this visit we saw the first James Bond film, with recently deceased Sean Connery. 1962 I think; Dr. No. They are offering a series of Sean Connery as James Bond in chronological order. Very Nice. At this visit the popcorn was not the greatest, but the personel, seating and movie was fine.

Gary Disher

The best! Not for profit organization presenting motion pictures that are known for artistic strength in writing, acting, and production. Frequent events and special screenings with invited guests such as actors or producers. Memberships available and encouraged.

Kimberly Young

Seats were upgraded since the last time we were there. Very comfy. Always a great selection of art house movies.

we are members and we love this place. they show indie and foreign films, and documentaries, not hollywood blockbusters, which means you see really good thought-provoking cinema. and their popcorn is way better than big chain theaters. and downstairs, in the lounge, is a library with a great collection of books on movies.

Our favorite movie theater. Always high quality, curated films. Some are prior to wide release and others more suitable to a limited audience. Always highly regarded films, Al la Jacob Burns in Pleasantville, NY

They seem to have approximately the same schedule of films as the Angelika in NYC, about one or two weeks later. A nice suburban alternative if you don't want to travel to the city to see these films. Also, both theaters are beautifully restored.

Colin Taylor
