REVIEWS OF Patricia Theatre IN Barkerville

Aubtin Yazdgardian

Gives you goosebumps to sit and enjoy a movie in a theater that has been around before your parents time. Good atmosphere, a must see!

Leah Hunt (Kokomo the Corgi)

Most adorable theatre ever. This is not your typical multiplex type place. No huge cushy chairs, no cup holders, just a whole lot of charm and community spirit.

Jamie K.

It's ok. It's a historic site. Apart from that I don't really care for it. I would like to see a proper theatre. Like Silver City in Coquitlam. Albeit a little smaller. One obscure movie that nobody has ever heard of. Thst is generally what plays at the Patricia. Only really big epic movies are shown here. Otherwise its random movie misfits as the main films they show. It is also placed outside of the main town area. It is out of reach for people who would like to walk over from their home or take a short trip there and back. Parking is the biggest problem of all. A theatre would be great where the old white spot was torn down. Perfect placement is right there in the vacant lot of the dilapidated and condemned hotel that was demolished.

Hate the seats. I don't fit in the theatre at all, since it's not made for 6 foot tall 280 pound men...

Authentic vintage cinema. It's like going back in time. Bring cash, as the concession does not take any plastic.

No debit machine. Horrible seating. Small screen. Takes months to get good movies in. You can really tell it’s the oldest movie theatre in wherever they claim.

The Coolest cinema! Nice view outside, popcorn and beutifull interior.

Love this movie theatre. And I truly appreciate the work that goes into maintaining this community treasure in a time of increasing competition from the small screens everyone carries in their pockets. Being in the audience is like being a member of a community, tied by our shared experience, by our love of history, theatre, and especially tied by the love we feel towards people who keep this magic happening.

This is the only movie theater in the small town of Powell River. It is a beautiful old historic building with murals on the walls. However, it is showing signs of its age. The padding in the seats has been packed down until they are hard and uncomfortable. The pitch of the floor makes it difficult to see if there is anyone tall in front of you and the screen is small. The projection and audio system are decent however, and so it is still possible to enjoy a movie here. They run new first-run movies every week, sometimes for longer and sometimes for as few as four days.

They have made some improvements with the screen and sound system in the past few years which has created a nicer viewing experience, but I always leave sore from the terrible seating.

Wow! So very randomly I ended up here watching a movie. Half way through the movie it stoped for an intermission, what a great idea. During the intermission I picked up my phone and Googled the theater. Turns out it's the oldest theater in Canada. Est1913! What a great place.

Great sound and vision in a traditional setting!

Beautiful old building! Completely useless as a good theatre. We really should have a mini plex for movies and use the Patricia for historical value.

Its great for a heritage site but kind of lame for movies the seats are really old and uncomfortable. The staff is usually really nice, the architecture is very nice to look at, all the little details inside are very lovely.

This is just the neatest place. It's the oldest continuously run theatre in Canada, with beautiful murals on the walls and great old fashioned seats. Tonight we saw The Green Book - they are able to get good movies that show for 5-6 days. When we're here for the summer and our friends from back home ask if we've seen this or that movie, we can usually say yes. What a treasure!

Vern Shore

Heritage theater, owned by a wonderful lady.

It is a night out and my way of trying to grab back some normalization from the pandemic .. it is an older theatre with a concession stand that sells the best popcorn pop water coffee chocolate and candy and provides great service. They show movies that are new releases.

The Patricia is an iconic landmark that is functional while still being a "grande old dame." As a mature resident in the area , I am more than grateful to the owner/operator and the community for pulling together to upgrade equipment and facilities. I consider ourselves very fortunate to have The Patricia movie theatre. It's like stepping back in time while being here now - even with 3 D glasses. How cool is that?

I love going to this theatre it beautifully kept for the age that it us. Yes the seats are showing some signs of usage but they are much better than what was in there. The prices are very reasonable for admission and the food cost are still doable.

Great small town experience in a lovely old-but well cared for theatre with a history. Highly recommend you see a movie if you come to Powell River. We have first night premieres on new releases and even 3-d movies.

We hadn't been to the Patricia for a long time (min.5 years)took our grandsons, playing was Ghostbusters Afterlife. The staff was very friendly &sound was amazing, almost a full house. It was a bit expensive$40 for 2 under 12 and 2 adults then 3 popcorn 1 pop was $18.50. After that being said my opinion "have a staff check on the crowd" for those eating chips!

Norma

I love the Patricia and have been a regular there for years--through the lumpy seats and bad sound system years to today, when you get a modern comfortable movie experience in a restored historical building. The only beef I have is that the website seems to no longer work. That's how I look for what's playing and this is inconvenient, to say the least (I don't do Facebook). I certainly hope it is soon restored.
