You must have seen that it reaches an opinions average is really high, and it is based on a large number of opinions, so we may say that the assessment is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to put opinions when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Grocery store.
Not too hectic even considering the location, bathroom wasn't bad ????
Pros: Its open until midnight. Cons: poor selection of anything not ramen, chips or pop, probably the only Safeway left on Canada that hasn't been renovated in the last 30 years.
Love this safeway .. its open till midnight every day .. perfect for us late chefs
Small location, I often don’t get my list fulfilment
Reliable locations with stock for both the University student budget and the trendy food lover. Has always been clean.
Shoppers and staff benefit from contemporary renovations inside and out.
Super nice Clean and all the stuff I needed
The staff are friendly. The selection is alright. The store itself could use some updating.
Small location with the basics including a deli. Not in best location, unless you live in area. Hard to get in and out of parking lot.
This Safeway seems to have less choice than others in Edmonton and appears to have missed out on the new design and updates that the rest have gone through. It still feels like an early 2000's Safeway but is in a very walkable location with decent hours.
Nice as in ok, grocery store.
Great service! Noticeably better prices than Save-On Foods!
Would you like to overpay for groceries, even more than at a regular Safeway? This place is super expensive!
I would like to express my frustration with the customer service I received today. I decided to go there to receive some money from Western Union (since the store is supposed to offer that service). The woman who talked to me about it at the Customer Service office was completely rude and disrespectful; if they don’t provide the service there, they should update the information they have online with WU. It’s the first time I’m using this service and I wasn’t sure how it works. She could have explained it to me instead of making me feel like I was stupid. I wanted to talk to a manager to complain about my experience and once I asked to another employee, they told me she was the manager. How can a manager talk to a customer like that? It’s even more concerning that she’s the one “helping” people at customer service. Unfortunately I left the store very upset and couldn’t get her name. I hope you can address this issue because I’m sure that’s not the way your company wants to deal with customers.
Horrid fresh food, high prices, but you can get chicken fingers here so
This Safeway has been around forever (seemingly). Still in good shape it is well light and easy to get around. Typical Safeway prices a bit too high.
Well organized but still no latex gloves anything other as PPE is there minus latex gloves
An average super market. Have to improve on their quality of vegetables and bakery products. Only good thing is most products are cheap.
Terrible Service, and very high prices. fake sales- regular priced items marked as if reduced. 10AM on a Friday, they had all the self checkout closed with one lane open where a deaf-mute person was working the line. took forever to get out of there. they also got now charge .25 cents a bag.
This Safeway has been very helpful. It's open until midnight and always serves me well for last minute items.
Limited selection in all departments and prices remain high. They were an early adopter of pineapple crush, hats off to them.
Great time. Pricier sometimes compared to no frills. Overall good
This place has a varieties of goods in stock. The sales associates are very friendly and helpful.
This Safeway has everything you need from a grocery store. The produce selection is always fresh and I am able to find most items on my grocery list. The bakery items and deli are both limited. Aesthetically, it is not appealing in any way compared to the newly renovated Safeway stores around the city. The prices are also higher here than other Safeway stores located farther from the city centre.
Had a very friendly expirence
Probably the worst Safeway anywhere. Very poorly organized. For a store that tends to be more on the expensive side, I'd expect it to be in better shape and feel less run down.
Great experience shopping here. It's a small grocery store but they have everything you need. They even have great ready to eat sandwiches and stuff. Great for students who live close by.
During covid, this has got to be one of the cleanest stores I've been in. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the displays were clean and full when I walked in.
Dont usually go after dark cause that's when the creepo's come out and hang around the entrance
This Safeway is close to where I live. It's clean and there is a nice big parking lot, plus a liquor store adjacent.
The mask mandate is off for Edmonton yet was met with ignorant stares and attitudes. Not even a hello or thank you in return when each were offered to the self-serve clerk. Just rude - i'll take my 21 year shopping regularly Safeway business to Save on Foods from now on.
It's good for basic needs, clean, and the staff are friendly. But considering the location it has surprisingly little selection for ppl with dietary restrictions. If there are any gluten or dairy free options on the shelves (which often there are none) they are usually crammed messily into small areas without clear signage.
Old School Safeway Hospitality and service. Very well stocked with fresh produce.
Terrible. No supplies of featured sale products. Then a sassy suggestion by the meat department to purchase a "comparable" item in a much higher price range.
Good service, helpful workers, nice store, lot's of fresh vegetables and fruit and variety. ????????????????
Not good I am an indigenous middle aged man I inquired where the public restroom was and was told by the caucasian female working in customer service that I would have to find another employee to unlock the restroom door and accompany me there. Racial profiling at it's finest. Garneau Safeway does not treat indigenous customers with neither courtesy not respect. I'll probably NEVER patronize that particular Safeway ever again.
This Safeway is in desperate need of an update as it looks like it hasn't been renovated in decades. It's small with not as much selection and just has a run-down feel to it. I usually don't shop here despite living in the area.
Very nice inside with the new updates to the store. Selection of items is average.
Expensive and it's in a sketchy location. I was followed home once after walking here. I would only ever go here for a few things, not a whole grocery shop because it's probably the most expensive store in Edmonton.
This location is always the messiest. The people there are not as friendly and helpful. DO NOT go here if you want to get a sandwich.. it will literally like 30 minutes to finish. Go to the Southgate Safeway if you have a choice :) they are much faster, friendlier, always going above and beyond for me.
They have a good variety of foods and the staff are pleasant and always happy to help you.
Find this store is incredibly expensive . As well as the staff look at everyone like there about to rob the store . Not a fan . Sorry and thanks for all the years I shopped at this location. But refer all to bonnydoon mall if Safeway is your place .
Love the layout, location and selection of this Safeway. I find the staff go out of their way to ensure a positive customer experience while adhering to Covid-19 protocols. A repeat customer for sure.
I have been in Garneau for thirty-six years and enjoy the convenient close by Safeway location as I have no car. I find the staff to be usually friendly and helpful. The selection and quality is sufficient for many of my senior, single person needs. I try to buy things opportunistically as various items go on and off sale each week. I especially take advantage of customer appreciation discount day which is usually the first Tuesday of every month to make a large quantity purchase. It must exceed $50 to get the 15% discount. This Tuesday purchase usually includes non-prescription drugstore, or household items that I stock up on. The across the avenue Shoppers Drug Mart's regular prices look MUCH higher for the same sort of item to me. Shoppers seniors' discount prices aren't as good as Safeway's 15% off day prices or sometimes even the regular Safeway price. Shoppers' deep discount sales items are all I'll ever buy there unless it's an item unavailable elsewhere close bye. I load up on discount points offerings on my Air Miles card using the convenient Safeway app or GetMyOffers web site. New offers come out every week. They don't appear that rewarding to me and I expend little effort on them. (Note... I have repeatedly experienced one particular checkout clerk failing to properly scan my rewards card, so would advise you always confirm it was done successfully.) I only buy maybe a quarter of my groceries at Safeway. I avoid Safeway's deli salads and wraps as better selection and quality can be found at Sunterra. Sunterra has a points card. Save-On-Foods on Calgary Trail and 78 Ave is a newer, more upscale grocery store within walking distance. It generally appears to have higher prices but sometimes better quality and selection than Safeway and has a lot of unique offerings. I visit No Frills (the discount grocery on 104 ST and 80 Ave) regularly. They've got some nice President's Choice (in house brand) products - the same ones as sister company Shoppers but at a lower price usually. No Frills often offers better pricing on the same product than Safeway but sometimes only very marginally so in which case Safeway is the better deal for me taking into account Visa rewards card cashback. No Frills does not accept Visa but you can use their PC Mastercard. I use the 'Flipp' app and website to digitally browse my favourite neighbourhood grocery store weekly sale flyers. A few times with Safeway I have found they don't have the item advertised in their flyer in stock or on sale here. I will incidentally recommend the free (basic version) UnderArmour 'MyFitnessPal' app with its nutrition database of nn million+ foods. It can be useful to visually compare, side by side, the information of similar food items with the idea of intelligently picking the healthiest version to choose to eat regularly! The store is looking much nicer with better selection in some areas post the upgrade. The retail grocery industry I read is moving to smaller sized 'grocerants' because of the increase in online shopping and Sobeys is building four highly automated food distribution centres based on UK technology. Plus... Sobeys has begun bringing its discount chain to western Canada. (Note the interesting letter codes on your Safeway bill to the right of each item. 'GC' implies you paid GST on the item. 'R' means 'restricted' which I believe means you didn't get the 15% discount on that item.)
I always go here for groceries. It's clean and the employees are friendly. Products are good and fairly priced as well.
Great staff decent prices nicely organized
The staff at the Garneau location are very helpful and friendly plus they try to make sure you are well taken care of.
Convenient and well stocked
Is very convenient location. And You can fund anything and fresh a good price. The Staff very happy to help You.
Decent selection, but nothing special. It's a smaller Safeway so lacking rarer items. Word at the University of Alberta campus is that prices here are higher than at most others in the city.
Great staff. nice and helpful Everything here is so fresh!
I'm just going through all of the places it's telling me to rate and posting photos of Mammon from Obey me!
This is good shop near my work and home place. good variety in groceries. but not as good in bakery. also a little bit high in prices but considering the distance with my place, worth it. also there is sale in random stuff. cashiers and staff are friendly and polite. in overall it is a good place.
The service is always nice, they have very respectful cashiers. They have good variety of products. On the expensive side yeah. But they've got good quality. They are among the very few places in Edmonton to get the halal version of the korean ramyon. They also have gongshim brand. I go to them whenever I needed those although it's not easy for me to go there. They are the only ones that sells a specific brand of bagles that I'm a huge fan of. I can't find that in Walmart or superstore
Oops on my first rating I got mixed up with a different location. However this Safeway is really good for its store size. Produce is freshly stocked, and everything else is fresh. Haven't encountered a bad experience yet, so five stars.
Good quality products , super clean place!
Overpriced just buy there sale items
Severely understaffed, staff were rude and dismissive. Waited over thirty minutes to buy bus tickets.
Do you think maybe in 2021 it's reasonable to post your actual open hours on google?
The customer service at this location was lacking. Selection for a small store was ok but when asked for help it was limited. The cashier did not provide the fuel discount receipt and yes I spent over $50
Give us better packaging ffs. Who ever heard of eggs in plastic containers?
Location gets this rating. Often they're out of milk and other staples by the end of the weekend. I feel like it's also under staffed in the evenings & weekends. I think there's a huge potential for this store & they're missing out big time.
Much nicer place after the extensive renovations.... Nice staff too
We need another store in the university area. Very limited selection, not a good display, elevated prices.
Nice experience, very clean and organized store. All the employees were very helpful.
Very expensive meat selection is not good do not recommend this Safeway
Always clean and good customer service
Pleasant staff, decent to mid priced, close to uni. all you need
Hard to get into the parking lot. Small and good service. Never long lines.
It might be a bit more expensive from other grocery stores but it's super convenient.
I've always felt Safeway was too expensive for what you get and you can buy same products much cheaper just about everywhere else... Today I decided to give them another try because of the convenience on my way home... I'm still of the same opinion and I only bought items on sale. Even their sale items were still priced higher than most other places. If I go 1km further down the road to No Frills I'm saving 30-50% plus they price match. Their customer service beats Safeway's hands down! I wasn't aware that placing the separator between my 2 purchases, saying, "two separate transactions please but they can all go in the same bag" would be that hard to comprehend but apparently it was. I'll continue to use No Frills and the StupidStore thank you! SAFEWAY IS WAY TOO OVERPRICED!
Open late. Decent Safeway, small size limits selection but great location.
If you go here, don't expect to be helped. I've had several mediocre experiences here and am finally rating it after I went into pick up flowers before a dinner party. I went to the express line and was met with an extremely incompetent person. When I answered YES to the question of if I would like the flowers wrapped (on a day it was snowing) he audibly exhaled his frustration to me before looking around for "someone to help me because he didn't know how [to wrap flowers]" and in the mean time ignore my suggestion to help the only other person in line at the time who had 2 cans of soda....she had to wait for a handful of minutes while he wandered around. He pawned me off on the self serve check out guy who then stood next to me at the station and proceeded tape the smallest amount of brown paper to the plastic outside not actually covering or protecting the flowers at all. Total fail. I finally asked if I could do it, to which he grunted and shrugged before he said "Sure I guess. Come get me when your done"....I was as six steps away and visible to him the entire time; and a ridiculous request regardless. It was such a terrible experience.
Not very big and kind of getting outdated but the staff were very nice. If you need to use the washroom, ask for the key at the self checkout area. The staff staff will come with you to open the door. Washroom was clean.
Great staff, awesome product, not a very large selection of products unfortunately. None the less, great store!
University student staple. Great staff, mediocre selection and prices, but a location that can't be beat. More stars if it was more competitive with No Frills and the like.
Limited options especially for gluten free products. Small and old inside.
Asked for a bag left with out a bag and with out airlines 20 airmiles
Have always liked this Safeway, clean, fast check out, lots of parking.
They had what I needed but not a lot of space to manoeuvre with a stroller
I've been told by employees here that this is the most expensive safeway in Canada, I believe it. The store is very small and dated with a bare essentials selection of food ideal for students who cook little and want quick meals. Hot and ready food section and sandwiches made to order, and made very slowly... don't order if you're in a rush.
Clean store with everything you would expect at a Safeway. Shop for you supper and grab some wine at the liquor store. .
The layout of this grocery store makes no sense. The crackers are with the bathroom supplies. They don’t have a wide range of vegetables. But it’s close to the university so they can get away with not having a good selection.
Check the expiration dates before you buy. They often sell expired salad dressings
An older, smaller Safeway but with a reasonable selection. No on site bakery.
Honestly, it's an old store, but I love it. It's a great store, great selection, great staff, and it's a real asset to a very walkable neighbourhood. And it's being renovated at long last.
This isn’t my primary grocery store, but I do shop here fairly regularly as it is on my way home. The customer service early in the morning could use some improving. I can understand that not everyone is thrilled to be working in the service industry and plenty of people just want to pay their bills, but I don’t think that being friendly to customers is too much to ask. The selection is good and I appreciate the organic meat selections, but I think some of the products are way over priced. $14 for a grinder of salt? No thanks. I mostly buy produce here because it has a better selection than my local grocery store. The live lettuce is good and the mushroom options are much better than I’ve seen most places.
Sandwiches were great
I was at Safeway Garneau to buy a sandwich at 9:56pm tonight, but their manager with dark blue shirt didn't let me in. Just please be aware that they lock the doors at least 5 minutes before their closing time.
That's a good safeway people are friendly it's like going in the super market in the town you grew up
This location doesn't have an in-store bakery so I find their baked goods are rarely fresh. If your looking for day-old and older, you'll be fine
Small store but has hot roast chicken... that's all that matters.
Clean, and they have a good deli with hot meal options.
Fresh produce, shelves are well stocked. It's a convenient and handy location for the people who walk there or for the people who take transit.
Took a stupid long time to get a sandwich made. My boyfriend waited for half an hour just to get out sandwiches and we had to direct the girl the whole time even though it wasn't complicated at all. Other than that it seemed OK
It says that they are open until midnight. But I went there at 11:58pm and they won’t let me in.
Quick and easy. Not crowded. Milk and prawn good price.
Please renovate this Soviet-era Safeway. The prices have gotten better since Sobeys took over, but the meat and deli counters need a serious makeover. Can't complain about the staff but how nice would it be if they had a nicer place to work and we had a nicer place to shop in Garneau. As one of the only grocery stores on this side of Whyte Ave, it needs to be updated.
Store is well kept, cashiers are super nice, 1person who cook in the kitchen really does not know how to cook hot n ready food.
Never again.what the heck is wrong with this place never fresh pastries, rarely fresh bread. Definitely turning into a day old store. Wasted time and money. I'll go to Save On Foods next grocery shopping instead of Garneau Safeway. When I asked about cakes being sold 5 days after expiry im told it's still edible nope it actually tasted old seriously stale. You can definitely taste mold inhibitor in the cakes lately.
Usually not super busy but rather small and not a large selection as well as rather over priced on certain things.
Convenient location for students from the UofA as well as local strathcona residents. The selection could be updated a bit and maybe modernize the location but it's a good spot with a liquor store in the same parking lot... Makes for good one stop shopping. Was there on Valentine's day and the staff were friendly and wrapped the flowers for you too.
Parking , easy. Finding my way around, easy. Cashier friendly!
An okay albeit strangely setup location with most everyone you'd want, but still could use a bit of a temp 3.
NEVER GOING TO SHOP at this Safeway again....the cashier told us that we couldn't use our coupons cause the yogurt was already on sale but we told her that every other Safeway lets us do it but she kept on fighting us on it...
The Pharmacy is pretty quick if you wait by the window. Close to UofA and tonnes of parking.
The selection is alright but nothing spectacular. The prices are better than its competitor's in the area but that's not saying much.
It's an older store but selection is good and staff are friendly, plus they're open until midnight.
This Safeway is located in a very convenient location, and they have friendly service staff. They also don't make you pay for bags and the cashiers pack your bags for you. It is small and offers limited selection at premium prices despite the fact that its main customers are students and senior citizens. The vegetables are often not as good quality. The hot food selection is also very limited. Since Sobeys took over, many of the items have been replaced with poorer substitutes or have disappeared from the shelves.
Replaced all their cashier stations with self serve checkouts, except for 1. Frustrating experience buying a load of groceries this way. Won’t be coming back if I can help it.
The prices here are crazy. Some items cost twice as much here as at the No Frills that is just 1.1 km away. However, this store is open late and that can be a lifesaver. Also, the bread they bake is good.
Bit run down and a little pricy, but overall it is a nice store that is close to campus.
Great location. Safeway always has a selection of great products, although the square footage in this location is outdated for modern standards. I mostly always find what I need, except there might be only one brand of a specific product, as opposed to what the big box stores now offer us. If you don't care to pay a little bit more for convenience, well this is your place!
Very nice store after all the new renovations. Nice & clean and well organized.
It's a grocery store. ???? I found what I needed and got supper cheap. No complaints!
Clean , well stocked, lots of parking.
Bakery items were dry but the store was pretty clean
Prices are not great as compared to NO FRILLS, Canadian Tyre or Save on Foods. Nice range of products including imported cheeses and cold meats. Great advantage is late closing time (12 midnight) for those running out of groceries or on a busy working day.
Great to have a clean full grocery store near the U of A!
Good super store. Nice place for assorted food stuffs.
This is a grocery store like many others, but to someone who prioritizes price, the expereince is unapealing. The products offered are never in bulk, and the prices are allways higher than any other grocer- be it the sobeys around the corner, or even another safeway like the one at boonie doon! Only a very small selection of products are ever avaialbe at anything resembling an affordable price. Unfortunately I cannot recomend this store as such.
Safeway has gone downhill since Sobeys bought them out and this location is struggling. The deli fresh food area is particularly bad. They have an amazing location and they are wasting their potential.
good place but a little more expensive than other groceries places in thecity
Great service, even while under renovation s. No mask BS
It's a Safeway. Pretty similar to any other Safeway you've ever been in. Looks really nice now that the renos are complete.
They had only one cashier working at 8:50 am. We were lined up. She had called for help at the request of another customer. Someone came a few minutes later. There was no one at customer service. They had only the express till open. There were two full carts ahead of me. I needed coins for parking so I had to wait. I was very happy that I had time to wait. The other customer in line was not so happy. I believe they did what they could at the time.
Decent grocery store with wide variety of items. Has self checkout lanes. Does not charge for bags (or make you estimate how many you will need) and baggers do a good job of packing the bags well. Prices are good for being so close to the University.
Since the renovation this store ALWAYS LOOKS WELL ORGANIZED & Very Clean!!! It feels like a Brand NEW Store The flow is well done!!!
This Safeway is small and it's awkward to get out of the parking lot if you're going north or west. It's clean and has a relatively good selection, though.
Good grocery store shelves are always stocked and very clean
This is one of the smallest Safeway stores in Edmonton. There's a mediocre selection and it is very busy from the nearby University. I try to avoid this location and use one of the lower traffic locations where the shelves are stocked.
Tiny produce section and not all the products you might need for your grocery haul, but they offer lots in a small space!
Love this place prices a little to much but the fresh cut meat is why i go
Going under renovation right now, but still a good location
The pay machines always have errors and there is never enough staff at check out.
This spot is kind of... trashy. Ever since they closed the Sobey's nearby I've moved here to get my groceries. Produce is usually well kept after but selection is very limited. Quite often I go to get something and they haven't put it out. Selection is limited especially for ethnic foods. But they have a lot of household stuff, including razors! The meat selection here is very limited and VERY overpriced, especially the seafood. Shop elsewhere if you want a deal because their sales often do nothing to help with the price of meat. Edit: They have virtually nothing for Asian foods, I came looking for medium egg noodles and curry roux and they didn't have either.
Selection, prices, and quality are not nearly as good as other Safeway locations. If you have the option, go to another grocery store.
More of a deli but decent
Had all the food I wanted and the staff was more helpful then most places but definitely has an old run down feeling
A grocery store on a major thoroughfare. Tidy and well stocked, with a decent produce section and anything you can expect in a mid size grocery store.
It's a Safeway! That said, it's one of the smaller stores in the city and as it caters mostly to the university students, there's not much by way of bulk or say, large roasts. If you're looking for more variety, large portioned goods, etc. you're better off going to one of the larger stores.
I live in Parkdale 118 ave and 82 st never have more than 2 tills open today went for some cat food for kitty get to the one open till 4 people with carts loaded to the top screw that walk across the street to Shoppers Drug Mart pay $1.19 a tin instead of 65 cents they keep saying they are short of staff hire more people go outside 3 women smoking around the corner I normally now go to Walmart ever since they became a part of Sobeys never see people working all the tills Superstore Walmart are very busy but all tills are open. If I want a candy bar gummy bears and a bottle of Coke I just go to the gas bar
Good service, happy people, considerate and safe ;)
I never ever do bad reviews, but I needed to get this out and talk about my experiences. I don’t even know why I bother coming to this place anymore. Every time I am here the cashiers and other staff are rude, passive aggressive and unhelpful. They literally all have an attitude and make you feel bad about yourself for asking for help/requiring assistance. I have been coming here for 5 years solely for convenience sake, but now I will go out of my way to not come here. TLDR; bad customer service, don’t come here unless you want to be treated like garbage.
Excellent customer service, friendly, good selection and very helpful and friendly staff. I recommend this location for sure!
It's nice and lot's of space .
Great deals, store well maintained, amazing staff!!
Pretty solid store considering its size, I really appreciate its extended hours of operation. As a university student, late shopping happens a lot.
Neither the cheapest nor the most varied grocery store. Has a pharmacy and a self checkout though, which are nice. Accepts credit cards+debit+cash. Conveniently located beside Sobey's liquor (share the same parking).
Great location to shop with high engery environment. Employees and supervisors are polite that do not discrimate against mask exemptions. Highly recommended place to shop, go make them lots of money.
Not my favorite Safeway, always messy and product not on shelves when sales are on...
10930 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 0S8 now electronic shopping carts which immediately upon leaving the parking lot. This places the store out of the reach of those who are elderly and handicapped. Plus, the "tap" for cards during COVID-19 is NOT working - it's a pandemic! That card tap should be paramount!
Yes the movie theater is not open but you can still get the overpriced snacks there
It's close to the bus stop and my place it's where I go shopping for all my food.
Nice small convenient grocery store with a nice deli with friendly staff and a clean store
Fairly nice interior, although it feels a bit ... heartless?? ... Like, as in, I wouldn't want to hang out there for too long because it makes my soul feel chilly
Not far from Hospital love it.
Nice plan to land by if you looking for some quick shopping. The price is reasonable and it also has a bus stop ryt in front of it so good for people without their conveyance and the University is also very near!!
Super clean, well put together and kept. My favorite Safeway in the city!
The Employees seemed very nice.
Pretty good selection, a little dimly lit, fast check out, clean
One of the best Safeway in Edmonton. Very well organized, clean and quiet to buy and walk.
Weirdest layout, very hard to find even slightly exotic ingredients. Not a user friendly location
Quick in and out and quite convenient
The late hours are good, and it's in a convenient spot, but the food is not always fresh, and it's not big enough to carry everything most Safeway stores have in stock.
Place is clean. Prices are a little high but you know what they all are.
All workers are really kind, but I didn’t like the prices, I wanted to buy chocolate covered almond but there was just a little in those plastic boxes.
Generally good selection but did not have what I was looking for. Cinnamon buns dry, not very cinnamony.
The most overpriced Safeway in the I tire city. Ok if you only need one or two items.
Great place to shoop
This should be the supermarket you go to when you need to buy a few things last minute. For proper grocery shopping I'd recommend going elsewhere because Safeway in general is pretty pricey.
Nice Store Managment is Ok Selection is alright And Fairly clean location to go to
Not the best selection and getting a bit old but the staff are great.
Good place for normal grocery. More expensive that the superstores like Costco, real canadian and walmart. It's smaller than the rest alike stores. However, for a weekly grocery shopping round, it will do.
The staff is very friendly, and as others have said their fruits and vegetables are quite excellent. Just for my needs, I don't find the store meets them. I use this store for pick up's, or if I'm running low. No shade, as the cool kids say.
I was just asking nicely for a washroom and key and this small old lady watching the self checkout gave me an attitude, she told me to wait at the washroom door, after waiting for 10 minutes she finally came and open the door and slammed it and walked away without saying anything. Rude as hell.
Pretty good if you need some basic groceries, but I would go somewhere else if you're looking for a product that is harder to come across
Nice old-school little Safeway, not much to say. I would change the sign from "Oriental Food" to "Asian Ingredients," or something a little less dated and insensitive.
I don't like paying an extra¢50 on brown bread over Northgate loaves of in_store bakes It's bullshir
Great and convenient location, especially for those attending the University of Alberta.
Always a good experience ????
It was clean and well manned. I wish I could've found the card section if there was one. Lol.
Not cheapest in town I guess, but impressed with good quality fresh vegetables, bread and meat. Will defenitely go back there.
Decent prices for a Safeway store. Not bad selection for smaller store. Big plus... only chain grocery store I know of open to midnight in Edmonton!
It's the best place to shop for good food low prices and the best service you ever can get small versions of meet at lower prices for people are that are single and that's what I like you can buy it like steaks or even though Chuck hamburger sounds really low prices. That's a good deal might books and I think it's a good deal for everybody else so come check it out every day of the week to seems to be a deal there and I just love that place.!!!
Good location, not the biggest selection or greatest prices. The service isn't that great here either, one male cashier always seems to have bad manners. This Safeway could vastly improve if they could get a cashier to smile at the customer once in awhile.....
Safeway is under some renovation, right now, which makes it kinda better place to shop .All PPE ARE IN PLACE safe shopping everyone.
In terms of layout and prices, it's more of a giant 7-11 than a grocery store. Expensive, but that's the price you pay for convenience, I suppose. They have issues with people hassling you for money in the lobby or outside -- not polite people, but aggressive people. One man followed me for two blocks after I refused him, and that's just recently. On the rare occasion that they do have their hired security, however, this is not a problem at all. It's clean, they have far more delicious baked goods than any other grocery stores nearby, and they're rarely out of stock of anything. All in all, it's a perfectly fine Safeway.
They are nice people working there. Produce is great, Flowers are good. The rest could improve. They renovating right now, so there is a huge opportunity for that. Like I said, very friendly people working there. It is the biggest plus.
At Perfect location. I been this place last week. Staff was really friendly. They have their own parking lot to park vehicles. Which is really good specially on whyte ave.
Fine if you want to pick something up quick, but the prices are high and the selection's not as good as Superstore.
Was not aware they now made smore pizzas. 10/10
A surprisingly small store. As a result I was unable to get several things on my list.
Great place for shopping!
A little higher priced than some Safeways, but the staff are generally fantastic here!
Great supermarket best parst is self checkout but some item price is higher than the other market
This is a smaller store so smaller selection but the location is so convenient.
Fairly small Safeway in a great location for students and other university area patrons.
Easily accessible by the university crowd. Produce is generally fresh, wide selection of food but nothing exotic. Has all the staples needed by individuals and families! Staff are helpful, location clean!
As a U of A student, it's conveniently close and everything is good quality. A little expensive for said student, but the people are nice and if I can't make it to elsewhere, it's definitely my next choice.
Fresh vegetables and Plethora of groceries .Big parking lot.Self check out facilities. Staff are very friendly and professional.
Good prices and good food
Your typical University grocery store. They have a constant customer base of people without vehicles who will go to the closest place and so there is zero incentive to improve. With that being said, the employees are nice even if the store is small and in dire need of renovations.
They have good prices here, but not a clean store. Not the best meat selection, The staff are kinda I wouldn't say rude but not friendly. Due to the fact its full or riff raff that are sitting in and around the store waiting to ask for money .. There's other stores near by to go to that are much better.
As busy as this location store is it's it's a good place it's always quite the best time to shop is 10 cuz nobody's in there they're all out on white Ave drinking
Well great products and sweetest treats its Truly Too Bad that My True Love ???? took it into his own hands and ditch, ummm popsicles , pop, and ice.. Ohh and me =,(
Small but carries almost everything I ever need. Most staff are helpful and will guide you when you're lost. Store is clean, always clean. Meat and milk have never disappointed from here.
It would be nice to get the "off brand" cereals too (especially the budget mini-wheats, etc).
Awesome service and cleaning during Covid-19 situation.
It's a small store buy decent selection, the pricing is above average of superstore etc
Good produce, good selection in bakery ! Overall more expensive than competitors, and not a wide variety of ethnic products
It's small and has a pretty bad selection compared to other Safeways
Like all safeways except bakery. Their bakery is pretty small and don't take any custom order.
I haven’t come here very much but every time I’ve been here the staff is rude and unhelpful. looks like I’ll be taking a longer trip every week to get to a better grocery store.
It's an okay place for groceries, but they don't always have the greatest selection compared to other Safeways in town. On occasion they have stocked goods that are well past the expiration date, but that doesn't happen often.
Too small. No gluten free products. Had rouble at self serve check out and no one was around to help. Finally called a cashier over.
I like it. Good prices for some things, but still the most expensive store in Edmonton
Clean and organized. Great for me to get any pending on my way home
What you would expect from any safeway. For those who don't know, it is pricier than other stores. Good staff and location with great parking availability. Right next to major bus routes.
This is a very tired and old Safeway location. It is badly in need of a renovations. Also, it's selection of vegan options ans health food options is limited. It's got the basics of a Safeway, but is probably the saddest of the Safeway locations I've been to.
Tried calling about a product that I was concerned was contaminated by the manufacturer. A frozen lasagna that clearly had a manufactured defect, and if someone was allergic to the mix of recipes they could get very sick. I clearly stated I am not interested in a refund and it was simple in the matter of public safety. The woman couldn’t get me off the phone fast enough, as I couldn’t provide a receipt she called my call fruitless and wasteful, even though she did state they do sell the exact product in questions. I also have a MasterCard statement but I wasn’t given the time of day. I will be reaching out to the manufacturer, but I was extremely dissatisfied with the lack of regard for public safety, or even an interest in insuring this wasn’t being sold to others. I will not longer shop at this location.
It's Safeway...what else can be the dangerous way? Hehe...but uh..it's nice, clean they have okay pricing food is generally pricier in this part of Canada... Stay safe at Safeway!
This is a smaller than average safeway but has everything you would need in a grocery store. The quick and easy "to-go" food choices are limited.
Nice place with nice staff
Pretty much over prieced on absolutely everything compared with there competition. Will not shop there unless l have to.
Store is alright for quick stops. However that is it, the store itself is expensive and in a bad location, your constantly berated for change from people begging. Traffic is horrible during the day making the lot busy busy busy.
Absolutely fantastic great staff
Reasonable prices and decent offers at times. Self checkout can take time because of switch to paper bags. Good step nonetheless.
As a student this place has everything you need. The produce department could do with better presentation, but prices and selection in this store are great.
That's my day to day store , good opening hrs , great location facing the shoppers drug Mart across , with a liquor and has a pharmacy and able to fill up your water bottles
Johnny has checked me out before but today he didn't bag my groceries, and checked other people out, putting their groceries next to mine while I was still bagging mine. ????
Lots of fresh produce here.
Nice clean store but lacks variety of products... still a good place for a quick shop
Convenient location and fresh produce... it's my go to place for a quick grocery pick-up
Don't like the assortment there. But I guess it has to do with all the Safeways
good place to buy
Over priced Low selection I gave an extra star for friendly staff Minus a deli lady that likes to keep her finger on the scale when pricing
It's a Safeway. They sell groceries. Nice layout. Produce looks good. Decent baked goods. Like the deli and hot food takeout looks good. It would be nice if they labeled the items on the hot food buffet table though. A log of deep fried stuff looks alike.
Worst Safeway I think I have ever been in. Stay away from this location if you can!
the service i had here wasn't great. i couldn't see any shopping carts or baskets or even an employee to find where they would be. if it wasn't for the fact that i had brought with me a cart of my own. i would've just walked out. i don't understand this. even though there is an ongoing renovation the staff should've put everything in an easy spot to find.
Very clean store good price a lot food for sale
Website said Pfizer vaccine at this location not AstraZeneca. And if it didn’t say that then Safeway did not take enough care to ensure that the person booking online was certain that it was AstraZeneca. Was cancelled last minute because I’m 39 y/o. They did nothing for me
I think that it has been under construction long enough now. Yes, there's a pandemic but lots of people are back working, I hate going there mostly because it's so cramped and it feels yucky. Can't find anything. Sorry.
Well laid out, convenient location for University students and with friendly staff, this Safeway is one of Edmonton's best.
Its small and has no public restrooms.
Good grocery store for U of A students, open till 11pm most nights
Nice clean store, nice produce
Under a renovation - going to miss the teal decor! Perfect grocery store for the quick in and out has everything you need.
The Fresh baking department is awesome, always fresh and the products have a great taste.
Renos are hard to navigate but still good place
A little expensive and no good fruit. Bought mangos on sale and had to throw them out they were so bad
It's a smaller Safeway. Well stocked, friendly service
Terrific renovation job on this location. Grocery store plus Pharmacy and Liquor store all in one location with good parking and pleasant staff.
Place has almost anything food related, however, it tends to be a bit pricey
This store has been completely renovated. It seems like there is more room inside and definitely more organized. They have added an excellent deli section and precooked food section. Definitely a good place to go for your groceries. I had a good experience at this location.
It's a good grocery store for making sure you get what you need however it's pricey
Good for a quick errand like milk or eggs, but low variety and high prices.
It was really small not a huge selection of meat or anything else really but the staff were really friendly. And had some pretty good deals.
Renovations are finished up, as far as I can tell. Sale prices were enticingly competitive on my last visit.
OK for the essentials if you live nearby--but even they can run low towards the end of the weekend. Produce is expensive and borderline quality at best. Better meat, seafood, and deli can be found elsewhere. If you have the time and the wheels, go somewhere else.
Bad service and prices
I loved it. Showed up 11:30pm on a Sunday and grabbed a few things. Still lots of deli stuff out.
Just an ok safeway. Limited by the small amount of real estate and definitely dated on the inside. Not terrible, and produce is generally good and the place is fairly clean considering it's on whyte, but you do notice the smaller selection compared to a lot of other safeways
Hey, the covid-19 plays tricks on everybody, nevertheless; this is a nice place to shop. Fastidiously clean with a conciencius staff and the kind of decent Whyte Ave shoppers that are chill
Great sandwich deals, chicken, and frozen foods for the microwave! The bakery looks delicious and the fresh fruit is tantalizing!
Good but find the price's are a bit higher then other safways maybe the staff are great
Great store! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff with tons of local selection, best of all they carry Dark Sky Distillery products like the multiple international award winning Stormy Vodka
Buns outside asking for crack money everytime I go there produce is sub par go to save on way better cleaner and fresher
Expensive as hell. Too bad this is the only grocery store near my house as i travel through bus. One thing that annoys me is that there is just one, if you lucky then two cashiers at the till and u have to wait in the line. But staff is friendly and willing to help.
Clean, but a bit smaller with less variety of fruits and vegetables. the produce is mediocre, it is not the freshest though.
Not very affordable. Great staff and clean store though.
Safeway has really stepped up it's game in the last two years. When it was first bought by Sobeys it was pretty terrible. Stock variety was low but has gradually increased and it is also one of the few locations in Edmonton to stock Spolumbo sausages. I also have found prices to be competitive.
Very good selection of lunch options from artisan sandwiches to great salads
Always deals
Stopped in to pick up a few items. Quick trip as it was not overly busy with lots of available cashiers.
Always had great service at the hot food counter at lunch time. Great sandwiches.
The newly renovated store is beautiful.
Overpriced. Food not fresh. Limited selection. Basically a rip off for people that r to lazy to go to save on foods or no frills.
Friendly helpful staff, helped wrap flowers for me with pleasure.
While Safeway is generally more expensive than some other grocery stores, the sale prices are often as good or better than elsewhere. That being said, I will gladly pay a little extra given the attentiveness of staff to cleanliness. I like that shopping carts and baskets are sanitized and ready at the entrance, hand sanitizer is available, and self check-outs are sanitized between each customer. The friendly, helpful staff and the professionalism of this store is much appreciated!
I never had a problem here until today. I went to a cashier and he refused to ring me in cause I didn't wear a mask. Thats absolute discrimination and for no reason. Like I'm not close talking to u or kissing u. Just do ur job and leave ur opinions and feelings out of this.
It is a smaller store. Not quite as much selection as the larger stores, but good.
Excellent produce and hours and a very convenient location for residents near whyte avenue and U of A students.
It is a very useful shop to just pop into. Usually veg is ok. Pharmacy are very helpful too.
I went there to get some ice cream and came out and had a $50 parking ticket on my car. Yay for a Safeway parking lot that's managed by other company. Shop somewhere else!!!!!!
Love the sandwiches, and Vitamin Water when on sale is cheaper here than at Costco when
Produce is constantly on the edge of wilting and rotting within days but staff are good
The staff at Safeway are awesome! The store isn't too big, but enough variety to get what you need, plus a pharmacy. It is really the staff that make it a great place to shop.
If it comes to location and choices, location wins it. You get all your daily supplies but not a lot of variety. It's good stop to make a quick run. Clean!!
It's not a bad little place. Good if your missed odds and ends. But will not have everything.
Nice, clean store that often has some good sales
Nice little store... friendly staff, great prices
Maybe tell some of the staff to learn some manners. Be a while before I return to this location..
I always buy the bums outside an Arizona green tea, carry on the tradition for me please. Staff here are great too and open late, best place to get some groc if the Walmart's closed
It was a pleasant, very clean store, nice looking produce area. Cashier could have been a bit nicer. Will return and do recommend.
its what i expect of this place pretty much same as any other safeway. i went here to get flowers. they had great selection and prices were good as well. serive how ever was a little slow
This grocery store is OK
Vegetable were either rotten or about to be and there was very little meat selection also very expensive for what you get.. I'll drive out of my way next time.
The picture says everything. Who knew poverty could look like it does but still be so expensive. Jared, what have you done with my phone!?
Fairly good selection, but higher prices than other grocery stores. Often lines at tills.
Nice smaller store, friendly staff, availability of some item not here due to store size, but most necessities available. Deli is slow if in a rush, and the 3 staff on hand not to concerned to help me or other person waiting. Took over 20 minutes to get a sandwich.
It was small and dirty, and no the dirty part was not from the renovations. There was an aisle with spilled juice on the floor with no wet floor sign and no one coming to clean it up. Otherwise it's very cramped and dimly lit.
Older store but happy helpful employees. Good sales on stuff i needed
If your name is Kyle, you like decals of tribal tattoos on your truck, and punching holes in drywall is your dealio, the sales at this location may excite you...
Had a real good deal on coffee beans.
Same old Safeway, good opening hours but overpriced.
Every one was very helpful. I couldn't reach product a staff member was right there to help me. The cashiers were courteous and insured my were packaged promptly. They were all very good
Had a great flower selection. In and out in 5 min.
Great selection and not too large of a store so you know your shopping trip will be quick. Love the reno that are happening there too.
Clean friendly store and staff . Can have some homeless hanging around sometimes but other than that no complaints .
Friendly staff, clean store great hours open.
Worst Safeway in town. Prices are expensive and selection is limited. They get away with it by being in a convenient location.
It's a good store, but there always seems to be some troubled customers inside.
Completely disgusted that it is self serve for chicken and chicken wings. Why? Will be contacting head office tomorrow.
Clean. Well stocked. Interior hasn't been updated in a long time. Small deli section.
Pharmacist is professional, resourceful and helpful.
I've gone here plenty of times living on whyte. Creepers tend to hang around outside the building. The prices seem to be more than any other safeway on earth but hey it's so close.
This is a handy location for students, seniors, and people in from out of town to be with friends or family in the UofA Hospital. Fresh Produce, stocked shelves and helpful staff. Available large parking area. Never too busy!
Helpfull and friendly staff...don't always stock items in flyer
So clean and bright. Great service with a fantastic selection of foods.
Less variety than many other grocery stores. Expensive too, however it is in a convenient location.
Convenient location, friendly staff
Not a large store, friendly staff for the most part. Very basic.
There is a worker (Brian D) (139) that is absolutely kind, helpful and gentle. The best dependent I never met before! And he have a pretty good spanish level.
Check your bread bags, theres a mice problem. staff is great and they deserve more pay. but again i say the building has a mouse problem and theyre eating through bread bags and probably other things as well.
All round great, friendly staff
The prices are a bit high considering the quality of the ingredients compared to the other stores.
Don't buy from the bakery, it's infested with flies that seem to love sitting on the frosting of the pastries and buns.
Worst service ever by manager. He was totally stuck up. Safeway used to be great costumer service but after my last experience, I will never shop there again. And that is saying a lot, since I used to be a Safeway employee. Superstore has much better service.
Awesome staff & service
Great location but its really small so the selection isn't there now that Sobeys bought it
Went there last shopping day and again found I couldn't find the Air Miles specific apples I was looking for. Also found a lot of the previous frozen prepared meats were well stocked but the packages were turned sideways and otherwise with the French side to the customer. In Alberta we are not bilingual. People speak French but the official language in Alberta is English. I have to say please do it right
I shopped on Aug 20, 2021 at 9:20pm. One of the employee refused to help me check out and asked me to use self-service (he continued to help others checking out after he rejected me). This kind of racism is unacceptable and I need an explanation and apology from that employee. I have sent an email to Safeway Garneau but haven't received any response.
Reliable but rarely any sales
Very good place for groceries and household items.
Store was good however today there was someone "huffing" immediately outside the entrance and shortly afterwards walked in took a large pack of cheezies off shelf and walked out. Some other customers attempted to intervene but staff did nothing. The thief was still on the property when we left and we told the security guard (wasn't around prior) and he said yea I'm watching. Not sure how safe this Safeway is as this was midday on a Sunday!
Great place for drop in grocery shopping. Self check out is great and no long queues. Always get good parking.
Good selection, close to home, friendly staff, and all of the self serve checkouts work. Awesome hours too.
Clean, Tidy, Nice Produce, Great cuts of beef!
A normal Safeway. Nothing really special or exciting. It's attached to a pretty basic mall. Great parking options. Usually only busy on Monday, Fridays and Sundays. Sometimes during the week at dinner time too. Has a bakery, Starbucks inside the store, pharmacy, meat department, etc. A big plus is also their quality and quantity of celiac friendly options.
Needs an update but its still safeway. Smaller store so not as much selection as you get other places
Clean and good quality groceries
Good grocery store. Prices arent terrible and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Clean and ordered place. Friendly staff ????????
Good sales, clean inviroment, fresh vegetables and friendly staff :)
Very neat quiet Safeway store with fantastic collection of flowers corner.
This is the worst Safeway I have been to. One male teller was rude on 2 different occasions. It really has not been a good Safeway for either produce or customer service for many years. It stays in business from the University kids who have no cars and can't drive to a different location.
Was kinda hard to see from main road as it has all its signage covered for construction, nice looking Safeway tho, tad small
Great store located in a great spot. Easy to get to and always well stocked.
Picked up my UofA student and took her for groceries. It was good. We got what she needed and prices are comparable I believe
It looks nice and feels nice but the prices are the highest I have ever seen in a grocery store.
Food is always fresh staff are friendly and helpful
Not a grocery store I would ordinarily go to;. It was long dubbed "ghetto Safeway" by students and locals alike. So yesterday's visit was a pleasant surprise. My first time back since their major "refresh" I found this store to be bright and clean, well stocked, staffed with great people and even the produce section was loaded with. great selection of fresh and inviting items. My compliments Safeway. Ghetto no more but rather an attractive local grocery option.
Place is under renovation and many products are not on the shelves. Very hard to enter the parking lot.
Walked in grabbed a basket started to shop when I noticed I was being followed I felt uncomfortable so I left and went somewhere else
A smaller store, not too busy during the day, but quite busy as the students from the U of A get out.
UPDATE: They did a really solid job of remodeling this older store. The new deli and meat counters are quite nice with a decent variety of quality choices. The staff here are generally friendly and helpful. Overall this is the friendly little neighbourhood store that could. ----------- This location is undergoing a substantial remodel with most of the store being redesigned and updated with new equipment. There have also been major staffing changes, including the managers. This means the store will need all of its reviews redone. Basically ignore any review before September 2020. Look for reviews in January 2021 or later. Meanwhile they are doing their best to provide good service to customers during the remodel. The overall experience is currently about 3 stars, but only because of the inconvenience of the remodel and the constant changing of stocked locations for items in the store and on the shelves. That said the staff are doing their best to minimize customer impact and the remodel looks great so far so on the scale of a store mid remodel it gets a 4.5 star rating. Looking forward to the completion of the remodel and shopping in this nice, new, bright, clean, better organized store. I will redo my review again once things settle down and all the upgrades and construction are complete.
Great local grocery store. I love their fresh soups, and their sandwhiches are also great. I give it 4 rather than 5 stars since there are Safeway's with better baking selections and Safeway is slightly pricier than your no frills or superstore, while not a specialty store with rare brands.
I work at this store. It's a small store compared to all the rest but we try to always have everything in stock a day do our best to satisfy all our customers needs.
Staff are great but the space is long overdue for refurbish. It's kinda gross. It could be so great if they just freshened it up.
Good place in university area for buying groceries.
As most places went in and got what I needed and also had a nice friendly cashier ????????????
Love the deli great staff very helpfull and friendly.
There is a good sale going on at Safeway! 24 pack of pop is 677 and 50 roll of toilet paper is 10.99 . Pick up the flyer when you go into Safeway!
Really good shopping experience. I found 3 or4 items I've been searching for that none of the other Safeway stores carry.
Great location and hours. Friendly staff. Fresh produce and meat. Deli is small but food is tasty. Accessible parking. Building is old and needs upgrades. Edit: Building has had extensive renovations, massive improvement to lighting although store is still small and cramped for how busy this location is, overall a vast improvement!
Massively over priced, but ultra convenient for students! Check your receipt after payment, they will often over charge on multiple items without you even noticing, especially on produce. Friendly staff.
I must admit that I was in quite in a hurry and have yet to experience a Safeway that had only 1 till open at 4 40pm. Rush hour four ant store. And me number 6 in line ... not happy. Please know folks I have given most Safeway a 5 star rating. The way they serve up each department to allow the low to the higher income family's to stay within all their budgets. Bye
