You have all the reviews of people like you who consume the products of Metro Cinema (Movie Theater) in Alberta area (Canada).
Now the firm has a rating of 4.6 stars over 5 and that rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can read, it reaches an feddbacks average is nearly the top, and it is based on a very large number of reviews, so we may think that the valuation is very credible. If there are many people who bothered to leave their feddback when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place reviews when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Movie theater.
Went and seen the Big Lowboski, it was an awesome exspearince
Cash only for popcorn and pop! ATM on site.
Great old theatre!
Very nice theater. Has an old feeling too it. You know, because it is.
Cool relaxed ambiance and great film choices
The Garneau Theatre is *the* place for cinephiles in Edmonton. Their monthly selection of films is diverse and frequently highlights independent local and international filmmakers, with a handful of recurring monthly showings of fan favourites such as The Room and various Studio Ghibli movies for good measure. Unlike traditional theatres which show the same handful of films for weeks at a time, the Garneau typically only plays a film once or twice in order to accommodate such a broad selection. This can be a pain as the number of available seats is limited, so it's often best to arrive early. This is particularly true for the most popular events like the Saturday Morning Cartoons Christmas Special or the annual Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Garneau is also notable for fostering community engagement with the movie industry, often bringing in filmmakers to speak before showings or playing short documentary-style pieces as part of the pre-show. As an added bonus the Garneau is fully licenced, meaning you can enjoy an adult beverage with your popcorn without having to pay through the nose as you would at the bigger VIP theatres.
Seats are SO soft and comfortable! Some seats are a little broken and over-recline, so I sometimes have to test a couple before finding one that's perfect for me.
My favourite movie house in Edmonton.
Great theatre with lots of fun events. Be sure to keep your eye out for any of the homocidal shows and any of the Turkey Shoot events. Very well run, comfy, and fun theatre. They're website is also very friendly and is updated constantly.
Great venue !
Great movies in an iconic theatre setting.
Always enjoy the cereal and cartoon festival. Feel lucky we have such a theater stand in the city.
Love this theatre so much ❤️
Great that they show Indigenous content films. Thank you.
A cool peice of history and a fun place to watch a movie. The concession prices are better then most theaters. They lose two stars for how hard it is to find parking.
Something about the Metro Cinema always brings me right back. Whether it's the cozy and warm atmosphere, or the quirky and friendly staff, everything is welcomed. I have watched many movies and shows at this cinema with no negative experiences. I recommend the Metro Cinema to everyone.
It felt very nostalgic inside
Great for free kids movies. Adults still pay $13/each
Theatre is always clean. The popcorn is the best in Edmonton and always fresh. Staff are always friendly and hardworking. Stellar movie selection/retro film series and will always pick up the hidden gems big theatres don't pick up.
Never turn down the opportunity for a show at the Garneau. It is classy, historic, and full of character
Nice venue, will visit more
Everything about this place is amazing and epic ???????? such a treat and fun place. Best pop corn in town!
The variety of programming at Metro Cinema is outstanding. This is an Edmonton treasure.
This has always been the best theatre in town. A classic.
I always love the Metro.
Clean and quality, with a nice touch of being a little old
This theatre (also known as the Garneau) is a cultural landmark in Edmonton. Lots of films, concerts and talks are put on here. It's a really beautiful building. The last time I was here was for a Pecha Kucha Night, which was an evening of the fast-paced Japanese-style presentation. Super highly would recommend both the theatre and this event!
I've seen so many things I would have never known about there. Weird non-profit! I love it so much I get the yearly pass.
The 15 dollar lunch bento box is the most glorious Japanese food you can get in Edmonton for such a low price.
Awesome movies here
Best movie listings in town
Extremely uncomfortable seats, but I liked the place classic style.
Keeping classic cinema alive with good prices and a great theatre. Concession and sometimes a bar too
Great ambience! Feels retro. Some adjustments to the sound systems would be great...
I love this theatre! Old school nostalgic vibe.
Definitely one of my favorite places to go. They always have such unique films playing, and the atmosphere is superb. The best part would be their special showings of classic films where they provide props or trinkets to use during the show. I also enjoy when they have a cask of beer available as well. I highly recommend this place for a day or night out!
Cozy, old theatre. Used to come here as a kid. Interesting movies.
Quaint little movie theater where all the seats are good seats! Love that there is balcony seating as well.
Great experience
I've had more fun yelling and throwing things during a classic movie in a theater then all my childhood memories at a Chuck E Cheese or field trip etc. I've gone for the Rocky Horror Picture Show and the Princess Bride. Both times I left feeling like I had an experience of a lifetime! I love that theater is still so vintage and the staff are amazing!
A great experience over all, friendly staff and a beautiful venue!
Great place to spend time watching movies with friends
This place is great for that vintage feel for movies. The place could arguably use a renovation though as the walls in the theatre looking like they're peeling off. I don't come often, but I always have fun when I do. Mostly a place for lesser known films and film study majors.
What a great selection and variety of old and new movies! I love the community atmosphere.
Great cinema ????
This is a great place to catch independent releases, old classics and also some international films. The staff is always nice and they serve good popcorn.
If you like the classic theatre, Garneau is your destination!
The Metro Cinema Society shows an ongoing interesting variety of films for reasonable rates. The popcorn is reasonable, and they serve locally-brewed beer in the lobby!
Classic theatre showcasing new, old, and obscure movies weekly.
A very cool theater which always has very interesting films going on. Much quieter and less hectic than the big movie theaters. Can't wait to support this theater in the future
Staff is always helpful, friendly! Offers a unique entertainment experience, showing indie movies and retro films in a delightful older theatre. You can pay to get in with debit but you'll need cash for the concession.
I’ve visited here several times for Dark Side of the Rainbow, Rocky Horror for the 3rd time, and the odd other small time film I’d like to see on a bigger screen. It’s a nice night out to watch excellent films with yummy popcorn (or a bag full of props to throw everywhere) while sitting in plush velvet seats surrounded by like minded folk. Parking is usually okay as there is plenty around but the usual weekend days can be a challenge to find a spot sometimes.
Best cinema in town.
Great theatre with an old school feel
Fantastic venue
Gorgeous!
Super cute and whimsical. Best popcorn I've ever had. Committed, fantastic staff and volunteers. Bonus--the concentration of douchebags that enter this place is fewer than 1ppm.
Never been but always heard good things about the films and cult classics they'd play and decided to check it out. Was definitely amazed it's a beautiful old theatre with classic snacks selection and a more modern movie snack option with the available bar. Nothing like classic film and a good beer with some milk duds to have a good night out.
Classic theatre with great options
Great place to see a movie!!
Good seats, good snacks, and a staff that actually cares about film. Top rank theatrical experience all around.
An outstanding art house cinema. I see several films there a month. Also, they're now licensed!
Great movies for great prices
Great place to learn about the movie before you actually watch. Community news is an engaging pre-show experience.
I love their selection of movies and events. There is always something to watch or an event to attend at Garneau Theatre.
Super fun retro cinema, originally built in 1940. One screen but that's all you need! Repertory fare, film festivals, children's movies, something for nearly everyone. A very different experience than the mega movie plexes most people are used to. The screen is smaller and it lacks the thunderous sound system of modern theatres. Flat floor seating instead of the more modern stadium style. If you are shorter try the upper mezzanine.
Fantastic theatre, saw an awesome show, would come back again!
Nostalgic, homely theatre. Fresh popcorn! Friendly staff.
Great events!
I visit the Garneau regularly. The movies are always great and the popcorn is to die for. Great staff. Great atmosphere..
Great popcorn, awesome old timey venue. The only complaint would be the seats are old and lumpy but I understand that it would probably be exorbitantly expensive
Great for classic movies
I love this theatre! The staff are friendly, the concession is reasonable priced, and they sell beer at some screenings. I like the theatre itself as well, the screen isn't huge but it does the job and the seats are comfortable. I like watching the movies they show as they often aren't shown in other theatres or are older movies. The tickets are usually $10 so that's not bad as well but they have some deals so it's good to follow their Facebook page to see what's happening.
I like this theatre because it has that old school feel with the balconies and style. The seats aren't comfortable though. Newer theatres have much more comfortable, larger seats
Just saw Parasite, and what an amazing movie! I loved it when the audience erupted into clapping, like in a live show. Great people.
The best theater in town! It's an older theater with old charm and old seats. Their popcorn is delicious, they always have something cool showing, and they're licensed (for those of you that want to have a bevy and enjoy a flick)
Metro is a great place to catch a movie, and the prices are very reasonable. They are consistently a source of a wide variety of films, not just the same lame blockbusters you see at the Cineplex. I also appreciate that they partner with community groups to bring important films to the public and support worthy causes.
Great place, great atmosphere.
My favorite place to watch a movie. Although the screen may not be as big as Cineplex or the seats may not be as spacious, this place provides the classical definition of a "movie date". Their selection of movies is incredible and they have multiple themes/special events throughout the year. The tickets are cheap and if you're a student, you get a discount as well!
Best theater ever, best popcorn with real butter , beat comfortable seats, best volunteers, best community engagement...it's the BESTEST !!?
Love it! Nice range of art & mainstream flicks.
Best place for a movie but add more variety of snacks. Only popcorn, pop and candy. Cash only for the snack bar. (Not a bad thing, just an FYI). And the old theatre make you feel back in the older days.
A classic gem that always shows the best movies
A beautiful, classic theatre.
Great selection!
Called Garneau Theatre here and on the sign out front, but online it’s called the Metro Theater, this led to some confusion buying tickets. Very affordable commissary , but distinct lack of parking.
Great plays
Great for cult classics
Quaint movie house for watching films you won't see at the regular theatres
Classy place and well kept up. Prices are reasonable, especially the student discount, and they put on great programming and events
The visual history at the Garneau is worth going. I took my daughter there to Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now almost 20 years later my art work was hanging there for Black History month. Thank you. Pamela Parker
Saw turbo kid here as well as other countless cult classics and indie favourites. Great chairs fun atmosphere. And always running interesting and informative events. A must see experience for Edmonton.
Neat old fashioned theatre
I love this theater! I love the old movies they bring back to the big screen and the old school ambience. My only main complaint is that there is absolutely zero parking anywhere near here... It comes with the area so it's unavoidable, but it makes it inconvenient and therefore I'm more likely to attend other theaters.
Fantastic little cinema with a wonderful history where you might be lucky enough to see a film you were too young to see when it was first in theaters
Nice venue Not very accessible.
I am feel like a watching TV
Saw the room, the staff was awesome, very accommodating
Don't miss the monthly showing of the room first Friday of every month. Bring plastic spoons. They also serve alcohol. THE APPLES ARE A METAPHOR.
A charming space that holds true to the classic vision of a theater. Lovely, quirky staff. A quality gem in the heart of the city. <3
My favorite theater in the city hands down! It is older, so the seats and technology aren't as stellar as the more modern big box theaters, but this old girl has got some charm! There is balcony seating that gives even us short people a spectacular view of the screen. The Metro has some great programming all throughout the year, but this horror fan loves it when dEdfest takes over the screen to show us some great independent and cheesy horror flicks. No VIP theater needed here to be able to enjoy a couple of good beers while you watch either! They also have the "All You Can Eat Cereal and Cartoon Party" a couple of times a year. This is where you can wear your jammies and indulge in the sugary cereals of your childhood and enjoy Saturday morning cartoons and commercials just like the good old days!
Really nice, the people are teally nice too
Fantastic gem of a theatre. Had that enthralling old theatre vibe complete with that true theatre popcorn and balcony seating. The fact that they showcase relevant and underappreciated films cemented it for me as a must for cinema junkies in Alberta.
Our favorite place in the city to see movies! Fun offerings and events, fresh delicious popcorn, wonderful atmosphere.
Keeping repertoire cinema alive in Edmonton. Support them!
Best theater in Edmonton, always love coming here!
Historic theatre with lots of charm.
Only been here once, but will absolutely be going back! Staff are incredible, warm and welcoming. Older venue with incredible character. Highly accessible, parking can be tricky.
Friendly staff and a monument for edmonton. Highly reccomend going here for one of their interactive evenings for showings like the room or rocky horror
Great events! Odd seats.
This is an awesome theatre that shows some unique films you won't get to see at a normal cinema. Sometimes they host film festivals there which is super cool.
Parking is the big issue on this place, great place watch new movies...
Great fringe venue. Street parking can be tricky so arrive early to allow for parking time. Enjoy the show in this heritage theatre.
Great memories of an old time cinema but huge!
Vintage theatre. Gotta try it at least once.
an old school feel, and although the concession stand needs an update, the place shows films not found in chain theatres, and those films are typically better than the dull Hollywood fare of today. 5 stars as it's a great place to spend some time watching something unique!
Just attended Rocky Horror Picture Show, lost my V tonight. It was a pretty awesome show! Thx for putting on the event folks.
A kinder, gentler film house. Best popcorn.
Always a blast, and great that many events serve alcohol :D
It's too complicated to find a parking spot
Great old updated theater
Cool spot, trendy. All the hipsters scenesters and cool people check out flicks and cult classics here
One of my favourite places on Earth, Metro Cinema is an essential visit if you're into movies off the beaten path. They always have a great combination of new independent films, classics, and cult classics. You could stop be randomly on any given day and you'll likely see an awesome film you've never seen before. And I haven't even started talking about the space yet. Oh man, it's so great to be able to watch movies in a proper cinema. The chairs could use replacement, but it's well worth the slight discomfort. :)
Metro is a wonderful community! Excellent programming, great vibes and free butter for popcorn. A true gem in Edmonton!
I can laugh when givin the correct material. Such as: poopcorn. Which was provided in the cinema lounge
Excellent movie curation.
Quiet and cozy place to watch beloved and unique movies without spending too much. Good place for a close date or a single escape. A little run down and could use sweeping up between showings.
Great old theatre and cool selections of movies new and old screened
My favorite theater in all of Edmonton.
Love the old style theatre feeling.
Best movie theatre in town, hands down. Always showing cool stuff (be they cult classics, foreign flicks, indie shows, etc) and an absolutely gorgeous interior. The Princess is great, but I prefer the Garneau.
The nostalgia❤❤
Good venue and wonderful films.
I love this theatre very much. It's hands down my favorite date night activity with my partner! Always looking forward to out next visit. :)
Watching The Sound of Music Sing-a-Long with one of my best friends here is one of my favorite all time memories.
One of the best independent theatres in Edmonton. The late night shows are usually licensed, and the monthly Saturday morning cereal and cartoons is possibly the greatest family activity for a lazy weekend morning.
Vintage, outstanding, nostalgic
A cool old theatre with great seats. Funtimes and beer and popcorn. Just awesome.
Very adorable vintage theater. Brings me back to a small time town I grew up in. Splashes of memories galore, I quite enjoyed myself. Massive selection for seating, and the sound system is incredible, all types of variety of film play here; from classic to contemporary, with splashes of art.
A great little theater that shows a variety of non-new-release movies. I come here to watch old favorites, stuff I missed while it was still in theaters, foreign films, and sometimes stuff that had a limited release originally
Metro is the best cinema in the city. Excellent popcorn, reasonably priced beer you can drink in the theatre like a normal civilised person, & the most diverse programme of films going. All the stars.
The Garneau theatre is a large historic theatre that somehow survived into the modern era. It is now operated by the Edmonton Metro Cinema Society and showcases a wide variety of high quality classic and modern titles.
Always my favourite cinema in Edmonton. Great movies. Non-profit, volunteer operated. Super friendly.
Classic movie theatre and a great place to see movies with friends. Did I mention they serve beer here as well.
An Edmonton icon, please support this theatre! They play the best, most obscure movies that you won't find elsewhere.
great place but the unisex washrooms are too far ahead of the curve for me.
Amazing place to watch movies new and old. Great staff and a great place all around. Classic movie theatre feel, a cherished part of Edmonton.
Always educational and fun to visit Metro cinema.
Venerable local venue for arthouse film is now the centre of The Metro Cinema Society. Art Decco movie parlour glamour is matched locally only by the Princess Theatre, located to the Southeast. Exactly the place to soak in cult, foreign, historical and documentary film, and much more! Located beside many unique restaurants and bars for a great and total night out.
Going to the movies the way going should be. What a great place and people.
Watched The Disaster Artist here! The seats are very comfy and there's a decent amount of leg room as well. Tickets are cheap and even cheaper for students, well worth it to see a new ish movie! Situated by Sugarbowl and High Level as well so it'd do well for a night out. Video and audio both good quality as well.
Very cool old style theater that is run by students and is a not for profit. And they prices are very reasonable
Decent prices, staff are good as well. Sound when I went was atrocious and made the film unwatchable though. Would be hesitant to return if it’s an issue with the theatre. Was refunded and finished the movie at home.
This super comfy theater plays a wide selection of fun, retro, and indy films. Recommend!
They've really improved the picture quality and sound at the Garneau! Thank you! Awesome theatre now.
Older theater' but comfy
This is my favorite place to go for a movie. Quaint little theater with one screen, the concession is cash only but the ticket desk accepts cards. There is a cash machine in the venue. The seats are starting to show third age and aren't super comfy but worth it for the eclectic movie choices. Has regular family events on Saturday mornings for cartoons and cereal. Concession has local beers and real butter for the popcorn.
Great theatre.
fun place
Great cinema old fashion the popcorn and very kind the staff
This is an experience! It reminded me of my childhood, it's old school. Sure it's not the best sound system or screen like the newer cinemas, but that's why you go! The people who staff this place are mostly volunteers and are super friendly. This is a community. There is a major issue with accessibility though, if you are severely limited in your mobility or use a wheelchair, you will be able to enter the theatre via the alley, they have done there best with a ramp to enter and exit the building. The staff are incredibly accommodating and will help as much as they can, but know if you use a wheelchair you will not have access to the concessions or the washroom so come prepared!
Classy older theatre, also known as The Garneau. Great venue for red carpet events and film sets. Older films are shown here as well, pending pandemics.
Great place for alt films.
The Metro is truly a gem. The old school theatre is super old and comfy - smells kind of musty like an old house and I love it. They play old and new releases so there is a great variety.
Super cool old school theatre that plays classic movies!
Great theatre!
Good times
The best is when they play old movies. Great popcorn ans great staff. My biggest complaint is that they have changed the movies they play. Three years ago I could find 2 or 3 movies a month to go and see. I think their mentality is not the same. They do not play as many old classic movies, or great foriegn movies; but seem to focus on movies with political messages.
Independent theater.
Great place to watch a movie or some event. Retro feeling seating and curtains has a very nice feel to it.
Between here and the Princess - my two fav theatres :-)
So cool
I love this theater! They offer a great selection of movies, following current themes, cult classics, quote-a-longs, anime, kids, etc. Tickets can be purchased online or in person. They promote screenings on Facebook which is great as otherwise I would forget about everything. The theater is classic with old style seating and the velvet red curtain on stage. Staff were helpful and friendly.
It is a nice theatre but because it is so old, it is not handicapped accessible. But I do enjoy the type of movies they show there.
Cool venue, it's fun to sit here. They play cool, fun, and interesting movies/films here. The chairs are rocky and sink in an odd way, but it's not a bad thing :) The staff are also very kind.
Interactive "date" with the son. Loved Princess Bride. Happy 50th birthday
This is literally my husband and I's favourite place to go for entertainment. They always play great movies. The popcorn is SOOO good. And they serve beer/ wine. They also have really cool curated series, like music docs, or staff picks, I want to say there's like 10-15, maybe more, different series throughout the year. Just a great venue and Edmonton staple for a cool thing to do on any given night.
Great movies but the theater is a little old and need some love
It's such a need for the whole Edmonton community. It's been hosting valuable film festivals and has been showing movies that are unique, beside other popular productions. The theater has a historic value and it has been recently renovated with, in my view, good taste.
I love this cinema ♡
always fun to go to the Garneau
Best popcorn in the city hands down. Independent/ cult movies and the home of dedfest edmontons horror movie festival Can't think of anything bad to say about this place
Pleasant spot with very friendly staff.
Nice place for alternative movies
Always love this place. Amazing popcorn, great prices and beer! Support local.
Most interesting range of programming of any theatre in the city, and the cheapest and best popcorn, too!
In my opinion the best theatre in Edmonton. Love the vintage feel and it’s a great night out. Order a drink too the metro is licensed. if you want to make a night of it go for dinner at any of the amazing restaurants near by. Metro you are doing some great things.
Reasonable prices, excellent choices in films and all round good vibe.
Old picture house. Shows independent films.
Awesome theatre
Great atmosphere and the price is right!
A great local theater with a good selection of films, comfortable seats, popcorn that doesn't taste like cardboard, and a beer list you can drink while you watch your movie. What's not to like?
The theatre itself is pretty old and pretty dated but it serves its purpose well for some of the niche and ‘less popular’ films that they show. Thankfully the prices are still reasonable as well
Charming old movie theatre, playing a great selection of arthouse films, indies, and classic mainstream films.
I love Garneau's small, warm lobby with its simple concession and box office. From there, the big open darkness of the theatre feels grander. The stage and red curtains are classic, even if the seats are falling apart a bit. Metro offers great films, and there are occasional theatre and other live events here too.
Wonderful fun theatre, always shows unique, exciting, beautiful movies, old and new. I appreciate that they show japanese films and anime too. Comfy chairs and vintage theatre atmosphere, with delicious food and drinks. I love how they're chill about outside food and beverage too, it's a tradition of my friends and I to hit remedy first for chai then watch a cool movie together. Their interactive shows are amazing too, it's crazy watching a movie with a theatre full of people laughing and yelling, even throwing plastic spoons sometimes. Go to see The Room sometime, it's a riot.
metro cinema is a synonym for cool
My favourite place to watch a movie! The staff are absolutely incredible and caring. Everyone who works and volunteers there cares so much about cinema and edmonton as a community! Please sit on the main floor in the comfy seats and buy a large popcorn and take it easy!!! Love this place!
Nice vintage feeling, from the signage out front to the prevues before the film. Been fortunate to watch some older films that I never thought I'd be able to see on a big screen. Be sure to check what's playing each week!
Great place to see Independent films.
Grate movie theater. It's got that old time vibe. Over all fantastic experience. I recommend going here to see a film.
LOVE the type of movies this place plays. Always love going to see the Room from time to time. Or if you ever want to catch an indie flick or art house films, this place is for you.
This is the very heart of Edmonton. To love in Edmonton means walking to the Garneau theater in late winter nights to watch a movie while sipping on your beer. It's a must see if you ever plan on experiencing Edmonton.
The facilities are not the greatest but it's run by a not-for-profit that is doing great work to showcase independent and art-house films. They often have a bar serving beer and wine for you to enjoy while you watch the show. They also offer the theatre at decent rates so that local artists and other organizations can have a place to host private screenings and other events.
An Edmonton treasure.
I loved this experience. I had an old-timey theme and it matched me watching Sharon Tate watching herself in "Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood"
Love the beer and the movies
An amazing historic theatre, with one-of-a-kind attractions.
One of the older cinema theaters in Edmonton, no longer independent but still your goto place for artsy cinema. Very comfortable seating.
Bad sound system for performance, was very hot with poor air conditioning and seats were rocky
It's old and the seats are REALLY uncomfortable for me but it does have some charm and some fun older movies sometimes that make it worth it.
Long live independent cinema!
Always able to find a good show to watch here. Get the popcorn when you go! Cineplex has nothing on Metro Cinema. (P.S. You should sit in the balcony)
Love love love this gem! Classic movie theater experience, make sure to get popcorn and a beer. Be wary tho as they are cash only at concession, but they do have an atm on location so you can always grab some cash. I would recommend going to one of their theme nights like a quote-a-long flick or a cult classic.
Friendly vibes, comfortable and doesn't feel hyper-profit driven. Specifically, you won't have to sit through 20 minutes of trailers before your show. Plays a lot of cool smaller movies. The opposite of Cineplex in so many fantastic ways.
Best atmosphere and popcorn!
Nice place to watch unique movies!
Excellent theatre. Always playing great movies.
great place if you are movie lover. have parking spot behind the building. check the website for schedule/reservation.
My favourite place to go for independent films cult classics and more. They offer ticket sales online as well. Prices for tickets and snacks are very reasonable and less than cineplex theatres.
Great variety of movies in a vintage theatre. Love it.
I used to work at a small theatre like this and it gives me dope nostalgic vibes
Classic movies are always playing here! dont forget to try the popcorn.
Best theatre experience in Edmonton.
This is just the best place for watching movies. Lots of old world charm and great people. Plenty if places to eat and drink nearby. Highly recommended!
Incredible theater that plays classic movies frequently, and they serve beer!
Great people and great for the community
The best movie theater in town. Always love how they show a little bit of everything. Old, new, and everything not mainstream lol.
Old school theatre, great variety of classic, independent and cult shows, cereal parties, free Saturday movies for kids and Homocidal performances plus movies for Adults! A perfect haven from the impersonal Cineplex experience! Pay parking lot is available behind the Dominoes across the street.
It's the first place I ever saw a movie and 40+ years later, it continues to have a thriving movie going community.
Love the atmosphere, seats need! Replacement.
Independent theater that had interesting movies. Highly recommended!
Cash only? I guess saving the 3% credit card fee is worth more than someone buying $20 in popcorn and drinks. ATM out of order, hope the movie is better experience
Great old theatre, full of character. Sound system a bit dated, but still very good.
Friendly staff and reasonable prices. They have a great selection of movies
This is such a charming old theatre that has lots of interesting shows, not the standard same new release movies that are playing in every other place. The place is a little run down but it has a lot of charm and character that makes up …
Love the Garneau! Great selection of movies, docs, and events. Always something going on here and they usually have a two for one Groupon.
I've been here a number of time, I love that this theatre is community oriented, offering small film festival type events, I ended up attending 2 films where Greg Sestero spoke (I just bought tickets didnt read details) and on occasion there are free showings, I've seen a few events out on by Edmonton Opera here as well. Definitely worth following the page, a bit for everyone from indie films to comedy to classics to underground flicks to family reel nights etc!
The best theatre sound system in Edmonton. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
Awesome variety of shows!
This place is amazing! I probably watch upwards of 20 films a year here. The nonprofit organization that runs the theater curates an awesome selection of classic, new, strange, and wonderful films every single month. They have lots of great thematically linked film series and special events and they serve beer! Staff are friendly and generally awesome. Definitely check this place out if you love film.
Fantastic old threatre.
Here or the Princess theatre are probably the best places to go a movie in Edmonton, and definitely have more movies worth watching than the big theatres
Best theatre in Edmonton, they play great movies and have a killer concession. Seats are comfy and cheap ticket prices. Love going here every chance I get!
The venue is interesting, the staff friendly, and the management are really great at engaging in community interests. They provide an invaluable service to the community and city.
Love this place.
Classic cinema feel, incredibly cool programming, diverse and positive staff. Check em out.
We go to the garneau theatre at least twice a month. It's such a great theatre with fantastic film choices, tons of fun events... For example sometimes they do all you can eat cereal buffet with Saturday morning cartoons.... Or they have tons of curated or themed films like Rock and Roll documentaries... There's so much more. But most importantly, the seats are comfortable, the popcorn is amazing, and it's licensed so you can drink a beer while watching your movie
Great little theatre that shows a lot of unique stuff. Pretty good concession with prices that are on par and even a bit cheaper than cineplex or landmark. They play The Room and Rockt Horror Picture Show evert month and you can buy tickets online! Its awesome!
Not high tech but high quality love for cinema.
Great vintage theater experience with ever-changing, interesting programming.
The Garneau. Love this for both film and stage performances
Beautiful old theatre run by a nonprofit and volunteers. Go regularly to keep this gem around!
The atmosphere of this place makes it a must visit if you are in Edmonton, it shows all the best cult classics in an environment that really pays homage to the greats.
Metro is the best theater in the city. Love the accessible pricing and selection of movies.
Very cool, old timey theater run by a not-for-profit film society.
Such a great place!! Make sure to check out the Saturday morning cartoons and their monthly Garneau Ghost Light Tours of the building!
Old school theater with Alt movie selection and great leg room!
The best classic cinema in Alberta. Who doesn't love beer and some cinema history
Great place
Such a cozy theatre. Definitely my favorite place to watch movies in the city.
Great spot to watch the great classics of our time! Interactive staff are great I recommend halloween time it was great
Best Venue for Concerts intimate and such nice decor.
Great selection of films, reasonable price for admission.
Great place to watch artsy movies
Amazing that something as heartwarming as this theatre and the Metro Cinema society that runs it exists. It's like the best of watching movies at home (there's even a couch if you can snag it!) but on the big silver-screen, with such a diverse offering of films that you'll never find in any other theatre. Definitely a place to come and chill and discover what cinema is really all about. That, plus great popcorn.
Nice old timey theatre with great staff.
The staff here are amazing. Have gone to many festivals and held a private screening. The staff went above and beyond what I was expecting and really appreciate it. With they did the turkey shoot again, maybe they lost the announcers.
A wonderful theater worth visiting.
Nifty retro theatre. Still has the smoke smells from whence patrons could light up during movies.
great place to watch nostalgic movies friendly staff
They always have the movies that no one else will show. Brings back memories when theaters were an experience and the rocking back of the chair was a delight. For a special evening with someone please make sure you visit it at least once a year.
Great looking theatre showing more than the standard pablum
Very old theater. Not enough parking space .Need to do modification of screen size and sound quality.
I watched Ruth Bader Ginsburg here. It was excellent. My best friend has done lots of stuff here too and they are awesome to him!
Favourite cinema in Canada
Great historic building, great movies, great memories
Love just about everything except the seats :(
So much fun
Lovely experience.
THE most badass place for new and retro cinema in Edmonton!
Garneau Theatre is probably my favourite haunt in Edmonton.
Best theatre in the city.
Quaint little theater and they have a liquor license!
Great old theatre. Comfy enough seats and always interesting and unique movies. The popcorn is great as well... Way better than big chain theatre popcorn. Staff is great and really into movies!
This is more than a movie theatre... This is an experience!! You are guaranteed to be blown away if you head to one of their signature events, like their monthly screening of "The Room", the Annual Rocky Horror Picture Show, or their annual fundraiser for the Food Bank at Christmas, playing "It's a Wonderful Life". Think of this as movie karaoke... The audience is part of the show, you're encouraged to sing along, quote along, dress up, all while drinking local brews and eating that buttery, salty goodness that chalks up memories from the past. Metro Cinema is one of Edmonton's finest gems!
A really fun atmosphere theater that shows quirky and unique shows, including some old retro cartoons, Rocky Horror, and some indy movies that aren't in other theaters. Ticket prices are good, concession is well priced, worth checking out if they have a movie or event you're interested in!
Always good to see movies here. It's not expensive.
Classic old movie theatre
Great to see old movies in the theater once again.
Great films at metro!
Great old style theater. Seats are comfortable and rock back and forth. Attended a live performance so sound was decent.
I love the atmosphere of this place. I'm glad the doors are still open... ANNND they layer the butter on your popcorn like they mean it!
We go here to see "The Room" on the first Friday of every month and the and it's always a good time.
I love all the special events they have . I have had many great experiences there.
One of my favourite places to go in Edmonton. Funky, unusual cinema screenings, a rich old-Hollywood theatre (faded, of course, but in a nice way.) Check their website for offerings-- there are often live shows that go with particular movies, such as drag shows or theatre. Great fun!
India Film Festival of Alberta was great. Enjoyed the movie premiere
Went to dedfest. The seats were great the female bathroom was always clean. The staff was so friendly too. The place was small but it felt like a place you would have gone to as a child.
The girl working was fantastic and a lot of help as we were travelling through and watched a movie.
Super cheap especially for students
Nice place to see some of those hidden gems that get passed over by the chain cinemas. Lots of showings of classics as well. It has a cool old cinema feel.
Nice old style theater. Plays older movies
We were most recently here for a Fringe play. The venue is nice, good acoustics, good food and drink service. My only complaint is that some of the seats lean WAY back, so much that I had to crane my neck up uncomfortably or hold myself up by leaning on the armrest, just to watch the show. And if I tried to sit up on the edge of the seat, everyone else was also sitting so low, so I felt like I was in the way. I know these seats aren't very old, and maybe it's not possible to replace them now, but it should be a consideration for the future.
For South Indian movies...
Best Theatre in the city. Great selection of films play here. Comfortable seating. Affordable snacks.
I went to see the film "Walk With Me". Everyone here was so friendly and they seem to be passionate about the community. I will definitely be back to support this theatre.
A true gem ????
Great old theater. Concession is cash only but good prices and popcorn!
First Friday of every month they play the room!
Love the Metro!! Always fun and interactive! I love the theme nights/events they host. You have to check this place out if you are visiting the city
The only theatre in town I enjoy visiting.
Best art house theatre in Edmonton!
Great selection of movies you won't find at other cinemas
Have had many great visits here. Many great shows and talks. Old school theater.
Love the diverse movies shown here. Where else can you watch 20+ year old movies for the first time right on the big screen?? Saw Spirited Away for the first time here and it truly blew me away. Something that a home theatre just can't give you.
Just a Queston Will Roman And Fousey Come Here?
One of my favorite places to go! They have the best and most random choices in films and such yummy treats! Also anime!!!! Yay!! Always love the halloween bash too!! I make sure to always attend. Also love the covid protocols in place atm
One of my favorite places to go! They have the best and most random choices in films and such yummy treats! Also anime!!!! Yay!! Always love the halloween bash too!! I make sure to always attend. Also love the covid protocols in place atm
Fantastic opportunity to enjoy movies and features you wouldn't get the chance to see in a Cineplex. Deadfest shows a selection of independent and international horror films. They also show independent and/or classic films.
Amazing staff, love their festivals and will continue to go back
Really, really good popcorns!!!
Always got something good playing here. I need the unlimited movie pass because I definitely watch more than 30 movies annually.
Love coming to this place and watching a film ????
At least some of the seats are pretty awful... Uncomfortable to sit in, they get stuck when reclining, and they recline so far back that they hit the legs of the person behind. Staff was very nice.
Adorable theatre , ripe with history
Very comfortable theatre and with the problems I have in my lower body I do t say that lightly. Second best theatre seats in Edmonton, I think only the new VIP theatre has better seats.
Quaint, volunteer run, older style cinema. Reminds me of my childhood.
Great atmosphere
The theater brings in some great old, and new movies that you won't find at the everyday theaters. Watch for special events including all you can eat cereal shows and kid matinees. It gives opportunities for kids to see movies / shows / cartoons that their parents loved and grew up on.
The Garneau Theatre is a staple in Edmonton and hosts locally produced short films as well. A great theatre with a great atmosphere! Highly recommend going here!
Classic films on the big screen and for a great price.
I'm so happy the movie theatre is showing old classics like Princess Bride, but is it possible to maybe make a deal with the school next door to ease the parking issue?
Great movie selections. Home of the International Banff Fulm Festival. But..... it has seen better days.
Great spot in the heart of Edmonton's historic community of Garneau, this place has you covered for all your "vintage" movie-going desires. Good selection of movies if you're not looking for brand new releases, plus a few mainstays (e.g. monthly showings of "The Room") and neat events (i.e. 60th anniversary screening of "Them"). Big comfy chairs in the theatre and lots of seating, and conveniently located next to top notch food and drink (Rosso Pizzeria, Remedy, the Sugar Bowl, etc). Having all-gender washrooms is also a nice step into the future. All in all, a fantastic venue for a night out!
I saw Die Hard at Christmas (2016) here. Fun time, comfy seats, clean bathrooms, good popcorn. What more could you ask for?
Great old style retro theatre.
Very old nice.looking theatre
Classic cinema and really old seats
Cheap and seats r okay but too many kids cause distraction since its free admission for kids
Love the Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!!
Has a unique selection of movies to watch. It's a nice alternative compared to the standard movie experience.
Nice theater
Awesome little theatre to see a cool movie. Great venue for weddings too!
Edmonton is lucky to have a venue playing these types of movies.
Great place
Old school theater that's worth checking out. If you go to the shows after 9 you can park in the High Level Diner parking because there is not much else available. The price of the snacks is fairly decent compared to the big chains of theaters. Didn't see any ghosts but I'm sure they are there. I love the fact that they play old movies, ones that you remember as a kid or maybe you were to young when they came out. I would have given it 5 stars but the gender neutral bathroom is terrible as my daughter went into it and the urinals are next to the sink, what total bulls!/t.
Always a lot of fun going to a retro style theater .
Fantastic atmosphere, comfy seats, great pricing on snacks and drinks. Staff are polite and helpful. Very clean and tidy. Generally attracts a great crowd, people seem to be respectfully quiet during films.
The theater was wonderful! Old fashioned seating that was cushiony and rocked. The selection of movies is fresh and interesting. Reasonable price for tickets. Awesome little eateries everywhere street parking. Being encouraged to participate with the movie was excellent.
Absolutely charming place !!
Great people volunteering there, fantastic ambiance, and fantastic movie options.
Went for show of the fringe. Rustic old style theatre experience.
Good theater with excellent sound quality and good seating options. Unfortunately parking is almost impossible, and it has mixed gender bathrooms which can be unnerving.
Ok the seats are a little shaky but the theater gives you a flashback to when movies were a night out
Rocky Horror Picture Show Awesomeness!!!
Their popcorn is way better then the big box cinemas.
Love this old theater! Great staff!
The best cinema experience in Edmonton! Great films every week. Friendly staff. Best time I've had at the movies all year!
Great atmosphere, the new lobby experience is fantastic and the variation of films coming up means there is something for everyone.
I had a great time, the atmosphere made it an excellent watching experience. If your are planning to pick up snacks there bring cash because the concession is cash only
The garneau / Metro is an absolute Staple in Edmonton. Whether it's showing the newest India can film festival film. Or making a classic night of something from your childhood or your past. It stands out, as a place to go and a place to be. If you want one of the last great movie theaters this is the place for you. Make sure to watch they're showtimes and listings as you're not going to get the same movie as everyone else here and if it's worth checking often
Art movies, I like going here
Beautiful theatre. Best popcorn in the city!
Expensive movie for a non profit
Best cinema in Edmonton. One of the few screens left that isn't silvered (multiplexes silver their screens for increased 3d quality, but greatly decreases quality of 2d projections, and 3d sucks anyways). Great sound system. Projectionists and staff make real effort. Picture quality consistently brighter+clearer than most cineplex screens (save ultra avx, and still way cheaper). A few wonky seats, but not that many out of the 500+. Drinking in theatre is a nice perk. $13 dollar price worth it to support great cinema. $10 for students and seniors. Matinees cheaper. Free movies for kids on weekend. Annual passes. Still less expensive than just about any cineplex ticket. If one is looking for a romantic night at the movies by all means go to a shopping mall or brutal big box shopping common on the outskirts of town, but Garneau by far has the best ambience. Negative reviewers have no clue what they are talking about.
A piece of history.
A great theatre that shows older and obscure films. One of the very few theatres in Edmonton that serves alcohol. Concession is cash only. It should be noted that you will be given a plastic cup when ordering any of the alcohol.
Great docus
Best popcorn in town! Way better than the big corporate cinemas.
The Room!
Great theater in the university area. They even serve liquor now. Great movies in a vintage theater.
We really enjoyed the opportunity to watch The Irishman, given it is limited release, and loved the nostalgic feel of The Garneau Theatre! 3 hours and 20 minutes on the big screen.
Comfy seats, lots of leg room, great gender neutral bathrooms
It's an interesting place due to its age and design.
Great date night spot. Fun movies, usually not showing anywhere else and the best popcorn
Relaxing place to watch movies
The theatre was filthy with all the popcorn and other leftovers from the previous show.
Love the staff here. This place reminds me so much of the dates me and my husband used to take, God rest his soul. I love the Garneau Theatre.
Fab theater awesome shows
Cool old theater. Good popcorn and you can even get a wine or beer
Nice venue
Pretty cool cinema, except for the fact that as you're peeing in the washroom you're liable to a have a woman come up next to you and start washing her hands... If you're only comfortable with normal, separated washrooms, I'd recommend using another before hand, or holding it...
The place is a time machine showing cinema as it was. There is even a piano there just in case. It is a very refined art deco cinema that your grandparents used.
It is a nice theater!
Great place.
Great films
I really like seeing movies here. Normally independent movies. The atmosphere, seats, sound and screen shout old style. …
Wonderful quaint theatre that hosts tons of fun events
I think its only the physical space in terms of chair for which i would rate it 3. Else the movie was really good. Prices were great. Its one place where you can see movies that are not necessarily mainstream but very well done
Tough to find a place to park.
Love the vintage feel of the theater (with floor and balcony seating available) and the monthly film guide always has at least a couple films that are of my liking (classic/indie/cult/foreign/anime, etc). Must see : Rocky Horror Picture Show (during Halloween preferably, dressing up and audience participation is highly encouraged!)
Wonderful historical building and very fair prices.
My first time Metro and my experience was very good. An order theater with long history. Good place to see rather quality films with low budgets. Movie that might be missed at mainstream movie plexes.
Absolutely love this theater. Went for two of the Studio Ghibli showings. I do wish they had coffee at the snack counter.
Went to see a couple of Fringe shows at the Garneau and just had to say what a beautiful venue it is is. Seats are comfortable auditoriums was gorgeous and the atmosphere was so fun. Staff was very friendly and had a really great experience. If you get a chance to go to a movie or live event here take it.
Love this small theatre.
Love this classic theatre, great variety of unique films and especially enjoy the theme/event nights selling Alley Kat beer (only for consumption in the lobby of course). Super comfy old school recliney chairs too!
I love this place. Old theater experience. Always playing strange movies you wont find at the cineplex. Ded fest is very cool and im sure they have other events all the time. Now they serve beer. They often play old movies and have played some movies for free. If you love film, you'll like this place.
Love everything about metro especially the movies they play and the old theatre feel.
Favorite theater!
Part of history here
Old, uncomfortable seats, but nice alternative movie selection!
Great small theatre. Always plays fun or offbeat movies. Real sense of community when you go see a cult classic with fellow fans.
Excellent place to see a film especially during these covid times
$13 to watch a movie that's over 10 years old and is a re-run? No thank you! that price is criminal and costs the same as a new release in the theater. I understand you guys need to make a profit to keep the theater open, but that is absolutely ridiculous!!!
Really unique place to go!
A beautiful theatre, but give yourself a half hour or so to find a place to park. It's not car friendly.
I love it here! Took my Mom to Christmas Vacation and she was so stoked!
Love the Garneau, the programing is really good - love the Science nights and the Indy film selection ... Also, the classic theatre setup makes you feel like you're watching a classic every time.
It was nice to have a festival still on
Great night
MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE LOCAL MOVIE THEATRE! If you haven't been here already, you're missing out. Local beer, fantastic popcorn, and lovely staff really out this place above the rest! My favourite shows to go see are the quote-a-longs, the most lively interactive movie screenings I've ever been to. More specifically rocky horror is very energetic
The quaint and vintage feel of the theatre leaves you on the edge of nostalgia. Garneau makes sure to play some non-conventional and critically acclaimed movies which wouldn't otherwise make it on the big screen. Good vibes!!
Love this theatre. <3 Fringe
Yummy popcorn.
Awsome seats
Unique experience, like going back in time.
Fantastic. Just saw Peter Jackson's film. Awesome to see that there's a lounge area with alcohol available too.
Such an awesome theater and great atmosphere. The people that work there are friendly and awesome. They put on awesome events and show some good quality movies. Just awesome.
Love this place but the sound is absolutely horrendous.
Love this classic theatre.
Love this place ❤
One of my favourite places in Edmonton.
Beer and wine while watching an old flick, cant beat it
beautiful theater love the diversity of films shown here
Always good with a friendly staff.
They serve wine!!!
This place is awesome! They support local groups and deserve all the Praise for such a well kept venue
Such a great theatre! Staff are always friendly, the popcorn is delicious, and they show movies you won't find anywhere else!
Cool retro theatre vibe
Nostalgic movies are good. Screen is quite tiny :)
Great place but it's hard to find parking.
Great atmosphere, this is the best place to watch a movie in the city. Forget about Cineplex!
Banff Film Festival..... look forward to it every year.
Unique theater, unique movies. Whyte ave at its finest.
Saw Colin Mocharie and friends. A Very funny show!
Social distancing was in full effect which was awesomely implemented. Seats were older and not entirely comfortable. Selection of pop and snacks could be better... with multi pack options.
Nice old school theater for people who want the retro vibe. But it's cash only
Nice staff, good old théâtre, they even served beer!
These guys are an incredible part of the community and program their films very well. They screen quite the variety of movies and there is always something for everyone from kids all the way up to foreign films. Garenau wouldn't be the same without this place.
Great theater, good schedule of movies, seats are better then some giant theaters
Metro Cinema is part of the full package of Garneau Neighbourhood, a historic place to enjoy old classics, newly released films and special events with amusing bathroom facilities!
Its always a pleasure at the Garneau!
Love this theatre! Love the old feel of it, and the classic movies. Highly recommended.
Bathrooms smell nasty and filthy and there isn't separate gender bathrooms. One bathroom for everyone. Most disgusting place ever.
Finally got around to seeing a movie here. What a blast. The involvement from the audience to the movie gave it such a unique experience. Will be coming back for more movies and recommending this to many others.
Such a wonderful place..really reminds me of gow the movie experience used to be.
It’s a great theatre.
Great little theater
Great fun
Love the nostalgia and the events they do
