Friendly happy staff, comfy seats and big screens. Nothing crazy fancy like some North American places, just basic seats and all, but it's just what the locals in Banff need
Friendly staff
Cozy theatre, perfect for the town of Banff. They always play a few of the newly released films. They have special days in which you can order an alcoholic beverage to drink with your show, and they have a good selection of snacks to go along.
Nice small oldschool cinema run by nice people. Great experience
Cozy place to spend sometime especially during Christmas!
A nice retro theatre in the heart of Banff. They are always playing the most recent movies and do their best to provide a full experience. One night a week they even serve alcohol.
Nice theatre, staff were great.
Really lovely place, great atmosphere! The staff are great! The theatre has lots of character I would definitely see another show there
Very affordable and with great weekly deals. Although not used the child free/babies welcome days seem like a great idea to see a film without distraction or to know what pure getting in for. Snacks aren’t too expensive and with a decent alcohol selection too. They do have the latest releases, although show times are limited due to the small number of screens. Seats are comfy, although not many per screen. Definitely a more intimate affair. But this does not detract from its charm and its one of the best places locally to see the latest in cinema!
Always Friendly and Helpful Staff!!
Be careful of them charging 3d prices on movies that are 2d.
We’ve seen dozens of movies at the Lux over the years. It’s a pleasant experience every time. From the creative decorating efforts celebrating the latest blockbuster to the constantly updated and creative “keep your cell phones off” video at the beginning of the show, you know you’re being treated to a movie by a team of true cinema buffs! It wouldn’t be a trip to Banff without staying for a movie at the Lux.
The best theatre popcorn in the world -please bring back the free refills on the large!!!
Cute cinema :)
Great local Cinema
Small screens but a cool location. Do not expect multiplex seats and you'll enjoy
While a bit dated definitely has some charm.
Standard small town cinema. Friendly reception, but cramped with limited selection.
Great events
Cozy little old theater. Admission wasn't too crazy expensive but concessions was
I'll never forget this little theatre and the fact that you can buy tickets outside through the window still! Old-school vibe! Small theatres but I love that. More of an intimate experience.
It's got movies
We came to watch the Banff Mountain Film Festival during our stay in banff. The films were great, the tickets were a good price and so were the snacks we bought.
Good price for tickets. Individual theatres are small and the floor layout is dated, but the snack concession was reasonable and the seating was on par for a cinema. I enjoyed the experience. If you go simply don't expect the super big and exciting atmosphere you get at a cinema complex in a bigger urban center. This is pretty darn good for a small town.
The only cinema in banff and I'm glad its here
Everything you expect at a movie theatre besides a Arcade which shouldn’t really be part of one. Food and drinks are there but are pretty pricey! Good note, don’t smuggle in snacks lol.
For a tiny little Cinema in a tourist town I recommend lux Cinema. hit the spot for us to see the new fantastic beasts movie and we felt very happy after we left. If a blizzard sets in I suggest coming on down and watching a movie.
Playing classic films at very affordable rates. COVID measures were great every other row empty and one directional
Friendly staff, slowly doing renovating and improving the quality of experience.
Fine for a small town cinema.
Very cozy theatre, friendly staff and some great snacks.
Great atmosphere! Lots of options for snacks! Bathrooms could use an upgrade
Nice place to enjoy a movie!
These guys went all out for the premiere of the new fantastic beasts movie. Cute little theatre, well priced for movies. Cheap date night on Wednesdays.
Always fun to go here, not the newest or best though.
Great place to visit. A little old school which adds to the charm. Friendly staff, comfortable seating.
A hidden gem in Banff. Went to see Star Wars on New Years Eve and it wasn't packed.
Good movie. Good seat can be better tho.Popcorn ok but not the best
Today is my first time at Lux theatre . I’ve worked in Banff for 20 months but I have never been to this theatre. Came to see Little Women by myself today. I fully enjoyed the movie. The theatre is a little retro but that’s all that can be expected of small theatres that have been running for over 30 years( at least at this current location) This theatre is similar to Eau Claire and Canyon Meadows theatres ( second run) in Calgary. In my opinion it is better than Eau Claire( also a first run but retro looking theatre) because there weren’t many trailers. I would definitely choose this theatre over Eau Claire if I wanted to see a new movie at a discounted price. Sitting through half hour of trailers at Eau Claire for Frozen 2 wasn’t a good time. Everyone was fed up at the end of the half hour. Here at least the movie started after only 15 min of trailers. The bathrooms could have been much better cleaned thats my only suggestion. The ticket and popcorn package which I didnt get today seem to be a much better deal than in big city theatres. Big city theatres would charge almost $30 for ticket, popcorn, and drink. Here it’s only $20 and cheaper on Tuesdays ..
Great option for a small town in the mountains.
Great old school looking cinema wth reasonable prices! Good sound system in the screens. Can be a little tight in the lobby when it's busy but a great for a chill night out in banff
Small theatre which plays a selection of new movies. They serve beer too!
It's an old movie theater that needs some investments in modifying it to the current reality. It a great place to be, no much people around and those are the kind of places I enjoy the most.
A great place for an evening out! Get the combo!
Good clean place. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Local movie house, so it's small, it's cramped but saves driving to the big city. Always an enjoyable night out despite the small town limitations
Moderate prices, a bit small, but popular offerings
(Translated) I recommend Saturday mountain film screenings. (Original) Polecam sobotnie pokazy filmów górskich.
Great little cinema (don't expect Cineplex size though). Movies come and go quick so make sure you see them before they leave the theatre!
First time being able to order booze at a movie theatre in Canada. I was so happy, like a kid on a candy store. The last that helped us so so incredibly pleasant to deal with.
Went to the Lux theatre to see the improv show. It was so good we went back and saw it the next night. Greg was one of the funniest people I've ever seen. Very animated and great at what he does. Would highly recommend.
The Lux may not be the biggest or fanciest theatre, but they really go all out for their special events. They decorate the lobby every couple of weeks for a new movie premier and they hold fun midnight launch parties with contests and prizes for dressing up. The selection at the confectionary stand has improved greatly and they now can sell alcohol at their shows. As well as showing Banff film festival shows, they also partner with local theatre groups to create uniquely local events you couldn't see anywhere else. The Lux has become quite the valuable community hub in Banff.
We've seen many films over the years. It's still a classic. Despite not offering the more intense experiences of Calgary theatres, you can still find new releases and a fun, friendly atmosphere at reasonable prices.
Movie prices are pretty high, on popular titles such as the Avengers they charge 3 dollars more than a usual ticket would be, which I though was kind of sleazy
Loved it. Super size popcorn. Real original feel cinema.
The only cinema in the valley with four show rooms. Two of the rooms recently got upgraded with a new sound system and it sounds pretty good. It's no IMAX, but it's nice to have a local theatre with a few movies to chose from.
It's a little small and setup weird
Love the popcorn
Small movie theatre but a good place to catch the newest movie. They serve beer as well.
Great theatre for a small town. They now serve beer.
Only movie theatre in Banff...
Watched Rogue One premier, awesome seating. Only real disappointment was they only had forced awaken collector's cups
Super friendly staff. It's a funky little theater but we had a blast
I love the Lux Cinema here. I love how they have the movies displayed on the outer part of the building. It's a nice touch. The movies are good and the cashiers always seem pretty good.
I love this little Cinema in Banff we go there almost every time we come up here for a few days it's hardly ever crowded and he is usually playing the best new releases available including 3D movies sound is great in the leg room is just fine
Cool theater, Cheap prices!
We were able to rent the entire theater
Great little spot in town to watch movies. Small space, but a comfortable one.
Great for the kids
Staff are friendly, cinemas are clean, chairs could be a bit more comfortable
Always fun times and the people that help you are always happy
Good experience. Nice to have a different sort of theater experience. Funny local commercials in the beginning. Good popcorn and love that there was salt and vinegar shake.
You can actually have a glass of wine as you watch a movie????
Quality movies at a local theatre
(Translated) A nice little cinema with 4 rooms which offers the novelties of the big cinemas. The terminals to purchase tickets are at street level. They only accept credit cards. Then you have to get out of there and take the door on the left and go upstairs. So I'm not at all sure it's wheelchair accessible. However, there are wheelchair spaces in the rooms so there is most likely another access. Once at the top, this is where we check your vaccination passport and your identity document. The selection of delicacies offered is that found in any movie theater. In short, a great experience with friendly employees.
This is a nice little cinema. It's a little on the older side, but they present themselves well. Enjoyed watching a movie here with my wife. I would come here again.
Why you guys dont Show the Assasins Creed Movie? ._.
A good small theatre for this town.
It's a theater. Good old theater vibes. A little small. Popcorn starts at 6$.
Small theatre, old and traditional. It was fine, but had none of the new cinema perks that you just don't think of as perks anymore like seats with head rests, or the reclining feature. But good for a reminder of the advances in theatres!
The viewing is kind of small and you don't get much pick from in terms of popcorn, but other than that it's an alright cinema to go to if you live in the Banff area.
Great value
Went on a Tuesday to see a movie that had been out for weeks and was surprised to find the theater packed. Apparently a lot of people in Banff enjoy movies, so get there early for good seats.
I enjoy smaller, local cinemas. Only reason I would not give it 5 stars is that the showing times can me a little scattered, but that is understandable as there is only 4 screens.
central location, cheaper price on tue !!
One and only option when you are in banff!
Cool little movie theatre. Great deals on Tuesdays
Small. Tidy. Comfortable.
This theater is pretty dated. It's in desperate need of a renovation. The popcorn was a little stale on my visit, so the butter made it really soggy. They do have a great candy selection though, and I truly appreciate the ability to buy an adult beverage. The seat rows are super close together though, which made it very uncomfortable.
An amazing classic cinema. It is not high tech or fancy like the city. This place keeps the classic feeling of an old school movie theatre. They play the popular movies and feature other types of films of different categories throughout the year. Pretty cool place I think
It is small but it works well and make you feel like the old movies! Love it
Excellent place to enjoy your favorite movie
The staff is very friendly and have helped me get my walker onto the Elevator..plus enjoyed watching movies there!!
It is a very homey-like theatre that makes you feel comfortable while watching the movie! Affordable ticket prices and the large pop corn is HUGE! I've had several good experiences there.
Cosy cinema, great seating arrangement and I liked their popcorn stand and choice of beverage. Although I did wish they had popcorn in caramel flavor ????
Always a great night here
Chairs kinda hurt after about an hour.
Has a vintage feel
Very old school. Reminds me of going to the movies as a kid
All things considered, it is a decent movie theatre. You definitely get the "small town" vibe (its not a cineplex after all), and its a bit overpriced, but its still a good place to bring the family for some entertainment.
Theater is good for a small town, it's not any high end luxury theater but it plays movies just like any other! Only shows 4 movies but all options were good ones that I would want to see when we went.
I would literally be lost without this cinema. I love Lux, it’s so convenient to have a cinema in a small town and they are so incredibly well priced. As a local, we are there every couple of weeks (whenever a big movie comes out basically) and the value is amazing. We usually do one adult ticket and one deluxe combo ticket - one medium soft drink and popcorn - for $30 total which is a bargain. They’ve really rolled with the punches during Covid and we’re so grateful they’re still here and offering such great prices.
Good local theatre. The prices for food are rediculous. You can get a standard ticket for like 14$ and then food is 15$ or you get combo which comes with all the same things for 20$ kind of a rip-off if you pay both seperate
Little expensive in comparison to cinemas in the Calgary. May be because of only cinema in the town. Limited option for movies. You will feel a little congested if you have an experience in Cineplex
Good movie selection for good price!
Watched The Final Order in 3D. Very satisfied!
Sound quality is not upto the mark! Pretty old interior.
Cheap cinema for tourists to watch new movies. Friendly staff and deliciuos popcorns.
This cinema has four screens. It shows the mainstream Hollywood and local movies. It also has live performances. It's pretty decent place to see a movie. Good screens and sound. I like the ticket booth sales in that its 60's style. Compared to Jasper the ticket prices are expensive though. $16 vs $11 at Jasper for 3D movies - similar comfort.
They let us rent a whole theatre out. It was awesome!
Cheap Tuesdays great. Do not have Closed Caption devices or offer any subtitled viewings, however.
Great little cinema in the heart of Banff. Ticket and concession prices more than reasonable. Very friendlyband helpful staff.
Love this theater. Small, cozy, decent prices and great theater.
Really nice small cinema snacks are expensive though
Nice theatre in the centre or town
Loved it great little theater
(Translated) Beautiful little cinema (Original) Beau petit cinéma
Thank you Lux Cinema for donating some snacks for myself and the other people in quarantine at the Red Carpet Inn, it made my day!
Watched Deadpool 2 here. Ordered the ticket and snack combo with came with popcorn and a drink for 19.99 plus tax. Older theater, stairs to go up and seating is quite low compared to large cinemas such as Cineplex. Still a great time!
(Translated) Excellent (Original) Excelente
Cozy. Good popcorn. Prices are reasonable.
Good movies good price
Polaris some interesting local/topical fare. Small screens. Decent drink selection.
Quaint small town theatre. Screens aren't big-city Cineplex size, but still generous. Different special each day of the week. On Monday, all movies are 2D only, but we got admission, medium popcorn and medium drink for $20. Nice way to chill out for an evening.
very good place
When i check for a movie just coming out and i want to use my discount (2x1 movie admission as a local on the Ambassador Pass) i purposely went in town at the cinema to double check if the discount was available for that movie. They confirm me that the discount was available for ALL the movie with the only condition of a extra charge for a 3D movie. Finally i went at the cinema the day after and surprirse no more discount!! After i discuss with them, they just told me they got many new staff that don't know the rules, without doing anything for the mistake(they even didn't care so much). We purchase the full price anyway and even the hall was almost empty! Was so difficult to do something about it?. Really disappointed with the professionalism of this Cinema.
For the amount of tourists this place must see, some up graded seats would have been nice. The theatre was clean and staff was friendly
It's a cinema... Seats could be more comfortable than. Butter on popcorn nice. Pay for extra layers tho
The lobby music is so loud you can hear it in theatre. Early 2000 pop music blasting ruined the movie.
One of the best movie theater experiences I've ever had. Staff is wonderful, it has that cool retro feel, I LOVE the faux movie trailers they make to tell people to turn off their phones and the tickets are so cheap too! I've also been to two separate movies and it isn't nearly as crowded as those overpopulated Ciniplex theaters...
Even have beer! Cool relaxing old cinema lots of space but modern setup.
The movie theater is quite nice and the snack bar is as good as one would assume for a movie theater, but I’ve noticed a rampant problem of people talking and even cell phones going off multiple times during a movie. I suggest they have people walk through the isles once and a while but that may not be a permanent solution. One more personal problem, I find they play their movies way too loud for me and so I have to plug at least one ear during the whole movie.
Love it
Kool place. A bit dated but still kool.
Love this theatre. It shows great films from many genres. Small, usually not full, great snacks. Great date night spot.
Great atmosphere! Popcorn was a little salty tho.
Classic movie experience with classic prices.
Always catch a film when we come to Banff and never regret it! Staff is friendly and welcoming, theater is cute and cozy and the prices are reasonable!
cute place
Very warm inside!!
Loved it excellent seats great screen
Good night out, poor concession selections
Four theatres, the seats aren't amazing, but the snacks are good, there's tea and alcohol available, and depending on when you go, you might get a private screening.
Great Cinema!
Great price, great service
Always a pleasure to watch a movie here!
Small theater with great sound and comfy seats, very dark room
No problems during the movie but this place really needs a face lift!!!
Very old cinema, but it's really nice to see a movie there.
Very pricy tickets, and food. Doest worth it. If your charge as much as IMAX does then at least invest in renovation of that movie theatre.
It's the only movie theatre in town. It's old and the screens are small.
Small and quaint place. Looks old but is in good condition. Screens are a little smaller then most theatres but they get the job done. If they have the movie you wanna see go for it, they're not too harsh on the wallet. Movie starts suddenly, no warning, once the commercials start showing you have maybe 2 minutes to be ready.
New Tom Cruise movie with 30$ couples deal was amazing .
Not a bad little theatre. What you'd expect for a small town, but the popcorn was good and so were the drink sizes.
The theater itself is a bit dated, some of the seats are crooked on their hinges. Screens are average size considering they have been in use for 15+ years. 3D works just fine. Surround sound is good. Concession serves beer so that's a plus. Definitely not a big city cinema.
For a small town it's an amazing cinema, highly recommend
I saw call of the wild. Good movie would do again
Older theater. If your looking for a quiet place to watch a movie this is a decent spot but the staff like to disappear after movie starts so bring your backup munchies
This place definitely has wheelchair access (which is surprising in Banff). Has an accessible cubicle in the toilet, however the door opens inwards which makes it a bit tight. The screen rooms are all ramped top to bottom. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thanks!
Great old school small theatre. Good covid measures.
This is one of the best small cinema plex. It is so conveniently located and provides a great option to relax and catch up on movies after a long day of hiking and travelling in the mountains. It is right in the middle of Banff downtown and very easy to have your lunch or dinner right next to the theater and then catch the movie. Has automated ticket purchase options available as well. The theatre building has a old world charm and the movie times are very convenient. The staff working at the theatre are also very friendly. Overall a must visit when you are in Banff.
Nice to get back to the theatre
Small screens, otherwise it has everything that satisfies a movie outing.
Love the historic feel.
Nice little theater in downtown banff. Has a small town feel to it.
Good moovie and good popcorn! That staff even found annother package of the dill pickle flavor packets stored away in the back for me wich made my night!
I like this theater a lot-been coming here for over 15 years. It is smaller & more relaxing than the theaters I go to in Calgary. The small town feel & friendliness of the staff make it an overall enjoyable experience. It's too bad there wasn't an elevator as the stairs are are a challenge for Seniors & Parents with smaller children.
