This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Movie theater.
They dont make the price dummy they only get snack bar stupid
Seats are hard on your bum. Wouldn't recommend sitting through a long movie. But sure what it is about this place but everytime I go a movie here and if the theatre is half full or fuller there is always someone sitting there talking throughout the movie.
This place has a special place in my heart. Even though it’s very outdated the service is great. They made me a fresh bag of popcorn upon arrival. Not busy at all so if you hate crowds it’s a no brainer to hit this theatre up.
Entertain as always This one not as noisy
Terrible. Uncomfortable seats. The theatre isn't positioned in an incline where you can still see the screen without having someone block the screen for you. Not enough legroom and no space for cups or popcorn. If you can, go somewhere else.
It's a nice clean theatre. Employees very friendly. Awesome venue for CIFF. Seats do not recline at all.
I appreciated the old time atmosphere
Not a bad place to catch a flick. A bit old and has seen better days.
Very old school feel! If you are looking for a movie that is no longer in other cinemas, check here. Often have them 2 or 3 weeks after other places have stopped showing.
This is my favourite movie theater in Calgary. You sit in a chair and they throw magic at your face for up to 2 hours at a time. And you leave with popcorn in your belly and in the folds of your shirt, and a head full of escapism.
Theatres could use some renovations as they are showing their age. Screens seem to be a bit smaller than other theatres and concessions aren't the greatest either. Its good if you don't want to leave downtown
It's like going back in time at this theatre. That being said I hope they never close.
I like the Eau Claire theater, quiet and comfortable.
It's a nice older cinema.
Enjoyed the movie experience!
Much cheaper than other theatres, but the seats are not very good.
Love this older theatre. Great location. Never too busy.
If you want to pay $5.00 for a medium pop with no refills just to sit in seats from the 60's this is the place for you. Everyone stop feeding these big movie theaters that make 500% profit of their soft drinks. Let's bring back small theaters that care.
I quote enjoy this theatre over the other, newer, bigger locations. It's usually quiet, quaint, customer service is good and they show independent films too.
The equipment are old than other places. Only serve regular movie in here. But the people is the fewest of other place's cinema.
Theater is ok. They only have 1 big screen and the rest are smaller. Nice that it is downtown tho. Seating is pretty cramped tho.
Hadn't been to Eau Clair in years. Forgot how uncomfortable the seats in the old theaters were. The place was clean and the staff were helpful.
Not the best screen technology out there, but still a good and not too crowded place!
This is a smaller theatre in a mostly unoccupied mall. Its a great place to go see popular movies during their first week on the screen.
Great place for family and friends, to gather and relax without the crowds of busy people around you.
There are better theaters within Calgary
The theatre is a bit dated and not as many screens as other locations. It is OK via transit but parking is limited and needs to be paid for.
I'm conflicted about this theatre. I both love it and loathe it at the same time. Starting with negatives: As is standard for theatres these days, this place also has overpriced snacks and no refills for a fountain drink. The seats are brutal and get super uncomfortable after an hour. Although my biggest pet peeve is the pre-movie display - full on annoying advertisements from your favourite chain fast-food and car dealers. On one specific occasion, my movie was set to start at 9:30 however only actually started at 9:50, because they were running commercials. The other theatres I've been to don't run nearly as many ads. All that aside, positive include: Location is great for all of us living downtown. The mall is a bit of a dump but this place seems to keep the lights on. This location is always less crowded than any other and I've never been in a sold out showing. I also see quiet a few special showings here that the other theatres tend to skip, including recently seeing the three extended Lord of the Rings films, which was a fantastic experience barring sitting in the dreadful seats for four hours. Overall, this theatre is good. Not great, not bad. I hope they don't succumb to closing like the many other stores within the Eau Claire Mall
The only positive was that it wasn't very busy. The chairs are uncomfortable and over all its just a very outdated theatre. Staff were not very accommodating as wanted to charge $5 for a glass of tap water! Not worth what you pay to go there.
Decent service, theatres are old and kind of uncomfortable though.
I always come here to watch movies. Tuesdays are the best because they give you special price. This cinema is not so crowded which is why I like it. Walking distance from bus shelter. A perfect place for those who don't drive a car.
The least busy theatre in the city with blockbusters. Often the cleanest. They often play retro films which is a nice change. Loved watching the original Blade Runner here.
Older building but good selection of low profile films
The movie was great. This theatre was pretty except the seats were a bit uncomfortable.
Horrible service I have ever experienced. I asked them to refund my ticket cause I contacted someone who got positive to COVID-19 test but they even didn’t reply me.
Generally a good place to watch a movie.
It's an old theatre. It's fine to go to watch movies at but don't expect anything fancy. Smaller theatres with less of an angle to them. Service and everything else is good.
Expansive but usually empty so great seats
Small quaint theatres. Wont have all the movies out at the time playing but a cool little spot.
Really great staff! Just inconvenient for parking and in desperate need of updating.
The pros: cheap tickets promotions, downtown location, access to the mall and other amenities, second floor, good movie choices The cons: alot of garbage everywhere, many sketchy characters, the smell of urine in their theaters, uncomfortable environment, you must pay for parking. I honestly think this venue had such a huge possibility of being great, but is unfortunately not being well kept at all. I would also avoid the bathrooms.
Go to a different theater if you have a choice,, this theater will disappoint you if you have been to Sunridge or Easthills, it's very old , cup holders are still on the seat in front of you very uncomfortable seating, it's just old and archaic.
This is my favourite cinema in Calgary. Not many people come here and I was able to watch Blade Runner 2049 alone on opening day and the theatre wasn't crowded one bit. They sometimes play not common movies as well for fans.
Being the mum of a 6 year old I LOVE this cinema. The clubhouse is amazing! Giving kids the chance to burn off their energy in the play place before the movie means they sit still and quieter for more of the movie we've come to view. The balcony has recliners while the main floor has standard theater seating. Both are comfortable and you book your seats ahead of time. You can order your food at the counter or order it from your seats! Cineplex has really stepped up their game.
Easy to get seats. Priced like any Cineplex Odeon, but is basically a retrofitted cheap theatre.
Nice older theatre, quiet and small with few movies available. It has a nice feel to it and probably why most people come here and enjoy it here.
Theater 6 is awesome, stadium seating
It's somewhat charming and has the privilege of being located in the downtown core. Staff are friendly. In one particular theatre, I've consistently noticed an unusual booming noise that can be quite distracting. If I recall correctly, it is theatre #1. Perhaps people at the gym dropping their weights?
The seats are really small and not comfortable, and parking charges went up from the last time I was there. It's also located in a weird ghost town of a shopping centre, which ambience-wise is a bit of good, bit of bad. That said, this particular multiplex takes chances with which films it showcases in a way the bigger, newer theatres do not. If you want to see a movie like Mandy, sometimes this is where you've gotta go.
I went here for my 76th birttday, just imigrated here. I wuz just settling down to watch a movie with a lot of.. lets just say... romance in it, but then i saw a popcorn stain in the seat ewww i hate stains. As well, in the seat i swear I saw pee stains too also this one staff guy came and spilled popcorn and juice down my fancy blouse/cardigan/tuxedo/sandals.
The customer service is agreeable but this branch is in dire need of a renovation despite the its rustic charm.
Dirty, rundown and the seats were disgisting.
I see most of my movies here. It's an older theatre without a lot of the fancy bells and whistles of the new ones in the 'burbs, but there's rarely a line, and they get all the big releases, plus a lot of smaller, quirkier films that I might not see otherwise. They are also an integral part of the Calgary International Film Festival, which makes them great in my book.
Eau Claire Market Cinemas is the best theatre in Calgary. I love it. It's always got great movies, and it's usually pretty quiet and there are lots of weird shops in the mall to check out. I hope it never closes.
Small theatre for cheaper movie tickets. Good for festival films but not big budget blockbusters.
It's a movie theatre, nothing special. But they support the Calgary Film Festival, so that's good. Otherwise: same movies, same over-priced concession, same, same.
Old with small screens. Staff were good.
This is by far, the worst Cineplex in the city. I only ever order one thing at the movies, the dog and nacho combo. 3 separate times in a row, I've missed out because they haven't put enough hot dogs on. Three separate times, months in between, they sold out, during the first 5 minutes of being open. Being prepared for big crowds is what your job is at the theater. I worked for Cineplex years ago, and I won't lie, I'm hugely disappointed in this location.
It was okay, I would probably recommend to keep the common areas more clean.
They could have had actual cashiers working the ticket sales but insead they only had 1 self serve machine that not everyone is efficient at using on a good day. Need I go on about the huge lineup that this caused? All the staff were working the food concessions which ran quickly and was less painstaking than buying your movie ticket.
It's always sooooooo quiet here with a chill atmosphere, especially on the weekends. Free street parking on Sunday.
Very nice cinema. But, If you want the big name movies and IMAX, then this is not the theater for you.
The theatre is tired, but crowds are typically pretty thin vs other theatres close to downtown (eg Chinook), so usually a nice option to avoid lineups & crowds.
Not entirely sure how this place is still in business, they don't even man the box office any more, you have to go to the concession to buy tickets. That said, it's a good location, and they do have the IMAX screen which is nice. And it's seldom crowded.
Great theatre, not crowded, secure underground parking ($3/2 hours weekends), Or street parking available. Nice staff; laid back environment. Good theatre sound quality and picture. Older seats but not a big deal to me. Clean washrooms (ladies was) and lobby, quick & efficient concession. 4*’s just because they could bring back a few arcade games, & the self per purchased ticket dispenser down or doesn’t work- the staff just scanned my phone. Bottle water $4.25, but I don’t think it’s any different then other Cineplex theatres. Bring your own bottle of water. Overall still my favourite theatre. Unfortunately Eau Clair mall itself has gone downhill. Probably due to rent the stores have to pay. Still some great unique shops but close early on Saturday.
Well... it’s an old cinema. The cinema is big enough to accomodate a lot of people. Chair upholstery was very dirty and not well maintained. The cinema screen was higher on an average eye level. Just hope no one’s going to sit in front of you if you want to enjoy the movie. Good points were the staff, always ‘new’ popcorn (not full of kernels),lots of parking after 6pm, and within downtown limits (great proximity if you’re in PIP park or just enjoying downtown Calgary). Lastly, they’re the only cineplex that plays really good indie films like PARASITE!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
They play anime movies and i am very happy they do so
A bit older of a theatre, but it's selling point is that it's never busy, and it's never a problem to see a big movie on opening night
Not a bad theater, just a bit old and worn seats. Typical theater.
My fave theatre! Never so busy that it's unpleasant.
The seats are non reclinable and a bit uncomfortable, look like old school seats, the movie theater itself looks kind of old too and really small. It doesn't get much people so you can get more of a private experience. Overall i would say it's okay if you're up for a more vintage experience.
Decent sized theater. Especially good for viewing indie films during the Calgary International Film Festival.
This place needs a renovation. The mall it's in is creepy, half empty and run down. Eau claire is beautiful but everything inside the mall gives off a bad vibe.
Great cinema, it's clean and always has some good movies on, it's also fairly less busy so you can easily find good seats here.
Old but gold, still has a nice feeling but should surely be upgraded a little
Good old theater especially if you can watch a film in Cinema number 6 which is an old IMAX screen.
Seats very comfortable. Good sound system.
Small but nice to have a theatre downtown!
The location is great but the place could use some work.
Movie was great but accused by staff as wanting double the candy. Paid for didn't get it, came back for it and behind my back he says to the another staff member. I know we gave it to them. But he was wrong. Don't judge mobility issues as screw you over for more that's just bad for business.
Favorite movie theatre as it is normally not very busy.
This theater gets all the hippie movies that you can't go see anywhere else. Seats are relatively comfortable for an older theater. I recommend going in the evenings as you can park nearby (not the parkade) for free.
Great location, but a bit outdated. Could do with a technology and decor refresh.
Move theater is very uncomfortable. If you go make sure you go early to get a seat there you don't have to strain hit neck or back to see the movie.
With cinemas, it's usually about what you've seen rather than where you've seen it, so I've only a couple of things to remark on. The most important angle to this cinema is that it's not a bad choice for premiers or very popular films. The reason being that come evening most people are hell-bent on getting OUT of the downtown core, and honestly sometimes this theatre gets overlooked or forgotten. It's smaller than most, but it's not always how big things are but what can be accomplished with them.....right ? Anyway, it's clean and fully equipped to do its job, which is all I really care about. So, if you're like me (chances are, you're not - celebrate this)and the thought of sitting in a room surrounded by all manner of specimens has your skin crawling and your brain already working on some world-class excuses, don't forget Eau Claire - it's never been as busy as the anxiety dreams might indicate ;)
Older theatre that plays some more obscure movies along with the mainstream ones. It's a bit dated, but still enjoyable. Plenty of parking and great staff. Note this location does not serve poutine.
Definitely showing its age, but still a nice location.
Very old seats and design, very uncomfortable. Sitting at the back rows also felt as if I was very close to the screen. Other than that great staff they were sanitizing every where.
The good: you can turn up right before the movie starts and get a great seat. They also start movies between 8pm and 9pm on the weekdays which is a perfect time to catch a movie. In addition, they often play movies you won't see at other cineplex theatre. The bad: old school seats and often the sound will bleed from one theatre to another.
International Film Fest. Eau Claire is my favourite theatre in Calgary - yes I even like it more than Globe!
Our experience at this theater was horrible compared to Chinook. Eau Claire Cineplex not only had huge lineups for tickets due to insufficient number of tellers, but worse were the seats, which were probably 30 years old, uncomfortable as hell and with very little leg room. The screen is small (compared to other theaters). And on top of all, the projectionist screwed up on the film and we had 15 minutes of blank screen following the already long previews. Then, just when we thought everything was resolved and the screen started playing, there was no audio, which meant me missed the first few minutes of dialogue when eventually they turned it on. And finally, they left the lights on for about 10 minutes until several people got up to request them turned off. I don't know if they were just having a bad day or what, but all these things combined made for an experience I"ll avoid repeating. Good luck!
Cineplex at Eau Claire is kind of run down and tired out, but not without it's own 'blast from the past' charm. It brings me back to how movie theatres used to look and feel in the 90s. Regardless, its clean, they serve popcorn and play movies... everything you need in a movie theatre.
To much attention to covid 19 felt smothered and treated like a child.
Love that there is a downtown movie theater!
Good theatre...a little old and tired but has everything you need.
Someone stood up and peed in our theater when we went to see the Joker, not shocked as we were in eau claire buuuut we'll probably make the longer drive to somewhere else next time. Not much that staff could have done so not their fault but just naturally off putting. Also could hear the movie next door during the quiet parts of our movie which wasn't ideal.
Old school theatre, you can definitely hear the movies in the theatres around you, there is absolutely no lighting to help you see once the movie has started, very nice employees.
The go-to Cineplex if you have decidedly non-low-brow tastes. Quick entry with the app. Smaller theatres which I find nice. Reasonably clean compared to others.
Nice movie theater located upstairs in the mall!
The seats are old and the theater smells like something rotten. Will definitely not go there anymore. lots of theaters have much better seats these days.
Great movie prices. Its never crowed. Food is overpriced. Place is outdated.
My wife and went to see "The Woman Who Loves Giraffes" as part of the Calgary International Film Festival. We were not disappointed. The film was wonderfully shot and the story of Ann Dagg is an amazingly typical canadian story. And when Ann Dagg came out as part of the Q&A it was fantastic. Best Canadian documentary of the year.
Always great selection of films.
I love it here. I mean, yes, I gave Eau Claire cinema three stars... The seats are worn down, the screens are small, the floors are sticky... But who wants to be blown away everytime? Sometimes a nice small theater with 5 other people in it is all you want. If we wanted our every experience in life to be phenomenal, why would we end up in monogamous relationships?? And that's what Eau Claire Cinema is really... It's date night in year five of your monogamous relationship when you really just don't care that much anymore.
Medium sized cinema was clean and pleasant. Had more seats that were comfortable to see the screen from then normal cinemas.
Wow this theater needs to be updated, the seats have no cushion left in the it was clean but so old. The hand dryer didn't work on the ladies washroom and no paper towels. I will not be going back there.
Not a bad theater, just a bit old and worn seats. Typical theater.
This theatre is a little older and still has a 90s vibe to the decor. The theatres are a little run down compared to other blockbuster theatres in the city, but it's spot downtown can't be beat. It's in Eau Claire market which is kind of a nice place to hang around while you wait for your movie to start. I saw the Sailor Moon musical here and it was insane.
It is rundown movie theater. This place should be shut down long time , I went there because it was only place in Calgary that was screening live theater program which I was interested .
It was great going back to the movies yesterday, hadn't been for awhile. There was only 1 other couple in there but even if there had been more people there it would have been fine because they've really limited the seating and you select your seats when you buy online ahead of time...
Often very quite, has a unique selection of films
It's an older theater that doesn't have all the luxuries of the new ones, but they play unique/rare movies and it's cheaper.
Clean and quiet. I enjoy the significant lack of children in this theater. I wish theaters would go back to turning the lights off during trailers
Very old theatre. Seat alignment is not good. $12 per ticket is totally not worth
Good place for watching movies ????
Very run down theatre. Need a major face lift; I wouldn't return here. Dark and dingy, paint and floors chipping. Then on the way out in the ladies', bathroom, was a mysterious black goop coming out from the drain, leaving 2 stalls unusable. With so many other modern, clean and easy to get to locations, don't bother.
This is my go-to theatre. I love it.
Hated it so much terrible seating dirty washrooms theatres r far apart from each other
Horrible screens. Hasn't been updated since the 90s. Hardly any new movies appear here. Unhelpful staff and manager means I will not be returning here unfortunately. It's a shame because the location is prime, everything else is not.
Prices are usual Cineplex. Seats are their standard comfortable enough. Pre movie ads and trailers last thirty minutes. It is accessible from most of the downtown core.
good theaters, usually not that busy which makes the experience great
Seats are falling apart and flat. Poor movie selection. Employees don't seem to know what they were doing. 3 employees had to discuss if I was over the age of 18 after I gave them my ID.
Easy to get tickets and park your vehicle, but theatre quality wise, has to pick up it's standards.
So old. Sound quality was not really like other theatres
I went to see a movie that was only playing in a couple theatres, and it was nice to watch it on the big screen. However, the place was pretty run down and the layout of the theaters isn't the best. Also, I wanted something to eat that wasn't popcorn and the employee just said "we don't have them"... despite the menu right there and no signs.
Big nostalgia factor, but in the sad way. I remember when this place was THE spot in town for a movie night. There was an arcade next door, and every screening was sold out. Now, you can usually find a ticket last minute, and it's feeling it's age. You won't find the big, comfy recliner seats, bar service, or anything else fancy here. It still does what it needs to, but it's not what it once was.
Dated theatre, a bit tight could definitely use updating, especially the seats. Overall they keep it clean and staff are friendly. Though I was entertained by overhearing a teen staff member complain about working to much and continued to say he did 65 hours in a 2 week period.
This is my favorite theatre in the city because it is much less busy than a number of others and the location (I like the downtown location, others may not). Great for a stroll along the river after or some dim sum or sushi in nearby China Town before. Also a perk is that the prices are lower than other theatres.
I like this place best. You don’t get the huge crowds like at other theatres.
Best kept secret in terms of watching movies away from the crowds!
I enjoy coming here for the occassional pre screening or to catch a limited release.
Small cinema. Definately needs renovations
Hasn't been updated in years but continues to charge the same price as the full recline cinemas everywhere else in town. The theater had clearly not been cleaned prior to our show and every seat is coated in a layer of grime from years of neglect. I can't imagine how that complies with covid-19 cleaning standards that other businesses have undertaken to keep customers safe. Will not be coming back until upgrades are made or prices reflect the experience. I can go to canyon meadows and pay 5$ if I want to lounge in filth for my movie going experience.
We've been coming to the Eau Claire movie theatre for years. It used to have an arcade right next door, which was a blast. Movies are pretty cheap too.
Unfortunately in the grand scheme of movie theaters, this is one of the worst I've been to. The seats are awful, everything is old, there are no seating levels so if someone tall is in front of you, you can't see.
Our favourite theatre. Limited parking and located in a "sketchy" mall, but we love the selection, the theatre seats, and friendly staff.
This theatre has old seating, old screens, and old sound systems, but it doesn't hurt the experience as much as you would think. Its generally pretty easy to get a seat at this theatre. No stadium seating however, so be mindful of where you sit if you don't want your view obscured by heads. Eau Claire is the last big movie theatre in downtown Calgary. Hopefully Cineplex sees the value in this area of the city and invests in the new building. Would be a real shame to lose even what we have there today.
It's not Imax but it does have unique movies other cinemas don't show. While it's an older arrangement and not been updated for years most likely, it's well kept and does the job in allowing you to see movies without compromises. This is great in that offers an option while in downtown and has often movies after hours. They have all the same food offerings as any other major movie theatre.
Not a very impressive theatre, it's clearly getting a little dated...and the shopping centre it's in was pretty sad. However if you're looking for a quiet theatre that's not too crowded and you don't care about all the fancy extras, this is the place for you.
I just loooove standing outside the theatre waiting to get to a movie that starts in 10 min while the gates are closed. Staff is great! Walking around with their cell phones.
Good place for an afternoon matinée.
Contemporary movies. Good location right down town.
Clean theater, friendly concession and always a great experience
Overall quite good. The theatre is definitely showing its age and lack of modern theatre amenities, but the theatre itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and professional. I would definitely consider seeing a movie there again if I was in the area.
Yeah the theatre is very old and outdated, but i don't need anything fancy when i go to the movies. Plus there's always seats.
What a DUMP. Extra star cuz of all the extra room from being a deserted cinema... Also, the sound from the showing next door was coming through the dividing wall. M&M's are no longer included in the snack meal "deal"????
For my first visit the Popcorn was great, Location is great for people who live downtown only downside is those seats in screen 2 are mad uncomfortable but Spiderman was excellent ????
Don't try the nachos! This movie theatre has really gone to the dogs. I can remember coming here a couple of years ago and thinking how the seats were due for a replacement. here I am years later and the seats are still stained and rock hard. The nachos also taste like the cheap no name brand rock hard chips. To make matter worse they don't have heated cheese like just about every other theatre. I was very disappointed. On the plus side the staff was nice.
Really retro style theater. If you want top of the line seats avoid this one. It has its charm though. Nearly empty and you're allowed to bring beers into the theater which is nice. Great place to see a new release that's less crowded. Popcorn was fresh!
It was the simplest thing of manners from the staff. Example: closing time, two young staff busily walking by and talking duties with each other AND paused their conversation to say "thank you (for recycling) and goodnight". When purchasing the tickets, the staff was alert and responded accordingly. It was without the automated "thank you enjoy buh bye" type service. When they thanked us for buying the tickets and wished us a good evening, we responded with "you too", they responded with thank you. These types of alert attentiveness indicates a level of pride and respect within the staff. Morale appeared to be healthy. The theaters were clean and comfortable.
Stillness one of my favorite theaters
Visuals seats and sound were barely ok with seats so uncomfortable that it affects your movie
Gross theatre. Gotta pay for parking all around that area which can be a pain if that kind of thing bothers you. I only like the mall location and layout/design it's got nice vibes in the summer they leave it all open and that's when it has a bit of a market feel to it. But the theatre is downright disgusting and out-of-date. It actually deserves one star but because the location is nice in the summer I'll give it two stars even tho it doesn't relate to the quality of the theatre at all.
Okay, we went to a poor movie (FB2) but the theater was good (3D!) and there is a popcorn butter dispenser free of charge!!
Nice market. Good for linch during workdays. Good options.
I love this theatre because it is never overly crowded, so we can always find good seats. It could definitely use some updating, but in general we like it a lot.
Cute
Seriously old seats. Is there a way to clean the theatre?
Good theatre. Fun special events.
Average service
Cineplex is my happy place but Odeon Eau Claire is my favorite happy place the crew is always friendly.
Very good cinema. clean and neat It screens all current movies, the big mainstream ones, but also independent and low budget movies. A big plus is, that they also show older movies like when they have an anniversary like 30 years of Batman or 40 years of Monty Python's Life of Brian.
This theatre is in a nice location and had good service and great staff
Had a theatre to ourselves. 9PM Beatles FTW
Love having a theatre downtown but could really use a renovation
It's the least busy in town, but also the least nice. I still go there often to avoid the crowds and because I live downtown.
Wonderful place to bring my children extremely friendly staff !!
Old theater but just saw Star Wars there this week and the seats were comfy and I enjoyed the experience. There are much newer and nicer theatres but the proximity to downtown can't be beat for a work day matinee.
It's the oldest (wide release) theatre in town. The sound is the worst in town. There is no assigned seating. But, it's not too busy, and it's right downtown. It does the trick, and I can walk to it. I'll keep going until they get around to tearing Eua Claire down, and I'll miss it when it's gone.
Great seating and viewing. Outrageous prices.
Friendly young staff but it was like there wasnt a manager or something, the popcorn was old and burnt, the drinks were almost flat tasting and the theatre seats were torn up and filthy. Definitely would recommend any other in Calgary.
Great DT spot for a movie and cheaper than Chinook
The seat are small but good price.
Old style theatre seats, but friendly staff and tasty snacks! Underground parking available if you need as well
Favourite cinema in the city
Sound not great. In need of renovation
This is my go to Theatre, it always has great art-house showings and part of the Flashback Movie series. Staff are fun, friendly and funny, and the manager there always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoys the movie going experience. Food selection is not as robust as the larger Cineplex locations, but always hits the spot. Looking forward to the re-opening of this location post COVID-19
Not what you'd expect from a Cineplex. Not sure if all the auditoriums were like this, but the one I was in was the old style with all chairs on the same level. Just old, without the old time prices.
awesome
Not a bad theatre. The nice thing is that on an opening night of a blockbuster movie you can always find a seat. The bad things is the seats, they are pretty uncomfortable if your sitting in a movie for more than 2 hours. Otherwise this place is a decent spot and quiet, the crowd is respectful and it's rare that you see children or the young adult crowd on a weekend.
This Cineplex location is pretty small and it's usually not very busy. Sometimes the movie you want to watch isn't being played here and you have to go to a larger location like Chinook.
Very old style. The chairs aren't very comfortable but its durable.
Very quiet movie theater that shows foreign and new films. Not brand new...but nice not to have any lines.
Love the new reclining chairs. Just need more food selection
Very helpful, polite and considerate staff. I went there on a night where they were running behind schedule and the staff did a great job in keeping their composure amidst the agitated audience.
Nice neat little complex, petty about Van Gogh film. Nearly went to sleep.
This particular Cineplex is one of my favourites. Each theatre screens are a little smaller than some of the larger cinemas around Calgary, but they play a large variety of films, and the popcorn tastes just as good as many of the other theatres. I've heard people complain about the prices and the price of snacks can get up there, but if you go on Tuesdays it is cheaper.
Like these theatres but need to provide free parking.
Very nice old cinema, but it needs reconstruction as old fashioned sittings making movie watching unpleasant.
Great old theater downtown. The newer alternative options in Calgary make this theatre's old fabric seats show just how in need of an update they are. If the prices reflected the age and condition of this place I'd visit more often. You'll get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
This Cineplex is probably the oldest in the city, it has small theatres and small seats compare to the new ones. Although they have nice staff working there, this place needs renovation.
This theatre is such a gem. Really amazing location, not modernised but that's what makes it shine.
It’s like a theatre trapped in the late 80s. But that’s why I love it, and if it changes I’ll probably jump off a bridge tbh
The theatre is tired, but crowds are typically pretty thin vs other theatres close to downtown (eg Chinook), so usually a nice option to avoid lineups & crowds.
Very nice place to go !!
Really needs a facelift. Very very outdated theater. I recommend not paying full price for a ticket here, go on the cheap days (can't remember what days those are)
Nice theater that's not overcrowded
Parking is not the best as it is located downtown, and the theatre is a little dated, however, it gets the job done.
Definitely an older theatre without reclining seats but it does the trick if you're in the downtown area looking to watch a movie. The location is inside of the Eau Claire Mall with a paid parking lot if you can't find street parking.
Usually not too busy which is nice. Could do with a refresh though especially the seats.
Hotel is great but TV selections suck. Add HGTV and I will change to 5
Quiet and plenty of seating. It has a great location near the river.
The standard ticket was quite affordable. Washroom was clean. Those are the only perks I can find. Otherwise, the seats were filthy and very uncomfortable. If you chose a closer aisle, you will have to look up constantly due to the fixed seats. Most seats are covered with dirt marks and dust. The cleanliness was really below my expectation as compared to the Crowfoot cinema.
If you want to avoid large lines and filled out shows for a bit of a warn out aesthetic then head on down. The washrooms are a bit of a funny thing to find and as I mentioned it is not a new or renovated space.... but you watch movies in the dark so no complaints here.
Hard to find the entrance, in dire need of some renos
Small, nice, quiet but ancient.....the seating arrangements needs spacing and newest cinema chairs
Old school feel.... great theatre.
Best selection of movies for award season
I like that this theatre has movies that most theatres aren’t playing, however the quality of the theatre is pretty low. It feels dirty and old and is hard to get to. Parking nearby is also paid which can be frustrating.
Love that they're showing older movies!
I love this theatre so much, it’s almost always pretty quiet, small and in a low key spot downtown. Never had any issues with tickets or anything. Always clean and had friendly staff. Parking was also really easy.
Older movie theatre located directly in the mall. As compared to many of the renovated theatres this one is small and showing its age. Theatre spaces are small, with uncomfortable chairs. In the movie we saw here they forgot to turn the overhead lights off until 10 minutes in... And even then, I think an audience member left to request it. I don't think they get large crowds as the concession line moved very slowly and our hot dog buns weren't the most fresh. If the location is convenient for you then this serves the purpose but unfortunately there are better theatres to attend a movie at. Only notable thing was that the employees were all friendly!
It's a great there makes no mistakes, relatively cheap, seats are awful though there's much to be desired for them. That's kinda emblematic of the theatre
Great venue for the Calgary International Film Festival! Six theatres, good concession stand and underground parking.
I like this theatre because they play some obscure movies sometimes that don't play anywhere else. It also has a bit of an older movie theatre feel, which I enjoy.
The seats are not comfy, need to replace them. Made me want to have gone to chinook instead.
Friendly staff & convenient location. The building itself needs a major makeover. The seats are not comfortable and very old & dirty and screens are smaller than most around the city.
We just came to watch Coco,a kids movie. Its running time is 1:49 min and just had to endure 20 min of commercials and a 20 min frozen Xmas special. I'm pissed. Its been 40 min and its just starting. Not impressed at all. The staff on the hand was nice and place is OK. Just definitely not impressed w that kind of planning. Kids don't need to see ram and ford and marks workwearhouse commercials.
Eau Claire Market's Cineplex Odeon theatre is a historic landmark. The theatre has been here ever since Eau Claire Market was built. The market used to feature fresh and local produce in the centre aisle in large long tables and the theatre upstairs. To me, it was reminiscent of rural downstairs meets technology upstairs. Though parking can be an issue at times, free parking after 6:00pm allows for availability when seeing the evening shows. If you time it right you can still get some fresh munchies or custom coffee in the downstairs novelty shops before your movie. Seats are comfortable though a bit cramped and they are starting to show their age. Be careful if the old style cup holders in front of the seats instead of between when you walk by or there will be a big splash...overall a fun place to visit.
Excellent location, always excellent movies
This theatre does not deserve your money. If you are going for a cinematic experience, it’s not here. Terrible sound and picture. Everything is dated beyond what you’d think allowed for the cineplex brand name.
Comfortable seats, clean, good sound
This place require renovation, no much leg space between seats, recently looks like cut off the staff and closed front box office. Highly disappointed with Scene program, booked tickets for 8 and Scene points rewarded for 2 only. Cineplex Scene policies are unfair and discouraging people to invite friends as you will not get benefit of Scene points. Company is trying to cut corners by including such policies to reduce there rewards costs in spite of customer paying full price. When contacted customers service they say you can have upto 3 scene cards, so to get scene points you have to go through these administrative nightmare. Highly disappointed will try Landmark for future movies.
Not a fancy new theatre, the seats are no where near as comfortable as newer theatres. However as empty as it is you can sit anywhere you want. Be cautious of parking, this is the second time we have paid for parking and got ticket anyway.
No gift cards accepted for the free screening. Not cool. We left.
Wonderful location, very central, good staff, clean and has IMAX! Underground parking adds to the experience when the street parking is all taken
It's an ok theatre but could definitely use some work.
Good staff. Good popcorn. Admission smaller than usual but is older place and seating is not recliner or stadium. But crowds are smaller and they run mainstream and independent and lesser known films not just blockbusters. Worth the trip into downtown.
Was good to get back to the movies. Staff was friendly and helpful. Booking process was easy and seats were spaced for Covid comfort
Staff was great. But the place is in desperate need of a refresh. Stained, frayed seats, chipped floors, and a general dusty museum smell. The seats aren't angled or anything, so you have to crane your head back to look up at the screen, even from the back row!
Clean and small cinema offering some films which are less main stream in addition to the mainstream offerings. The cinema is not too busy which makes it great for a visit.
The movie was great.... however the Theatre is showing its age. Inside the Theatre was HOT and stuffy... it seemed like there was no A/C on. The popcorn tasted stale and seating in the lobby area was scattered around which made it feel more like an obstacle course than a place to sit and wait The partial open main gates looked odd as it made you wonder if the Theatre was actually open or not. There were printed paper signs taped on kiosk machines, ticket booths that wasn't manned, on signs, at the concession, etc... made the place look messy. The bad tasting popcorn and $4 bottled water didn't sit well. Sorry
Cool beans it's rly close to most people and not too busy
A lovely theatre. It's a really good place to go on a budget because it's just $8 to see a standard definition movie here. Very reasonable compared to $14 at Chinook.
Old theater, but nice and convenient
I'm sure the renos will make this place better, enjoy the quietness though. The place was a bit outdated when I lived in Calgary
Seats could have been little better
Good place to catch a movie. Theater is outdated and needs updating.
Went to watch the Endgame, audio was horrible, audio kept cutting off in the middle of movie and seating were so tight that if you wanna go for washroom you gotta clim over other people to pass them. First time watching movie there for me and will be the last time, will not recommand.
A nice older theater downtown Calgary. Ample parking in the Eau Clair underground and easy access. Highly recommended if you are downtown and want to catch a new release.
Been going here since I wad a kid. Only problem is that movies sure are expensive.
Showtimes are erratic compared to other cineplex theatres but that means this place is usually never crowded. Go here if your usual theatre is sold out for a movie.
It's a nice older cinema.
Cute love the GoodLife next to it
Excellent spot to see a movie. My favorite.
It's kind of relic compared to newer theatres. No recliners.
Seats were comfortable, sound was good, popcorn was hot and the pop was fizzy. Pair that with a good movie and the combination is winning. Heated underground parking is a plus.
Convenient location, neat selection of movies, and friendly staff. I like that this place is being used very often for film festivals. Looking forward to see the outcome of redevelopment in the near future.
Not a bad theatre. Not sure if they have any DBox seating or anything. Usually pretty empty and quick to get all of your theatre food. We just watched the movie 'Us' there. Decent and unique horror movie.
Seats are horrible, the screen was high up, and there is hardly any grading to the theatre. The service was very slow. I DO NOT recommend this theatre. It is crazy that this theatre charges the same as other Cineplex theatres.
It's good because you usually always get a good seat. But the theater itself is just okay
It's selling feature is location and bringing in movies you can't find anywhere else. On the downside, it's old - uncomfortable seats, no box office service, long refreshment lines.
Hasn't been updated in almost 20 years, but I appreciate this theatre's participation in various film festivals.
Not so busy place therefore you can watch with pleasure. No cell phone users no kicking in your seat. Mostly considerate patrons
Everything was good. A couple lights were flickering in theater room 1 though.
I experienced racism and misogyny from the staff today. I was standing in line to get pop corn when some drunk melanin-deficient guy came out of no where and pushed me aside to go ahead of me and I told the employee that I was next in line and the employee laughed and told me to go stand in a different line. I’m never coming here again, and I hope movie theaters will all fail as we can make pop corn and watch movies for free at home where I don’t have to deal with overt discrimination.
The chairs are very uncomfortable. We had pain in our backs afterwards. They still haven't upgraded the chairs since the dawn of time!
Really cool. One of the staff apologized for not being able to play the 3D version of the movie which we paid for. He offered everyone a free movie ticket which I thought was very thoughtful of him. Thank you.
Great location. Hilarious about the food reviews... When you get older you'll be smarter with your money and eat proper food before going to the movies. You can have a nice dinner for the same cost of food at a theatre.
Great place to watch a movie with heated underground parking!! Especially during cold Calgary winters! Service was great, helpful staff and the theater was clean....great all around.
It was a good experience I saw a lot of complaints in the reviews about outdated seats, I think the seats are fine. It's not busy if you like avoiding people. The only thing that was disappointing was the theatre was on the small side along with the screen but overall it was a positive experience and I would return
Nice older style theatre. Always seats for movies. We go here for Christmas each year and love it - close to China town as well so easy to do dinner and a movie on holidays.
Eau Clair is not as busy as other cinemas but the seats are not great, a long movie leaves you with a sore butt.
Good movie theatre for an older cinema house. Surprisingly, the popcorn were fresh.
Nice movies but seats are disgusting. You may not want to sit on them for scare of bugs and other insects. It is old and needs renovation.
Always feels like no one is working there, chairs are old school so not comfortable at all, popcorn was cold and old.
I just assumed all cineplex locations were pretty standard, but only the popcorn and drink quality was the same. The seats were very old and uncomfortable , and were not updated like other cineplex locations in Calgary. It's an older theatre ( I figured a downtown location was more likely to be refreshed)
Old movie theater , not very clean , chairs are uncomfortable.
A great theater cause it's never crowded. Staff are friendly.
Unfortunately without a customer service to issue tickets it makes the confectionary very busy. Staff try very hard to keep up but....
Yeah, this theater is a little run down and definitely in need of some updating... However... It still has a lot going for it. It usually isn't very busy and has plentiful parking, it plays all the new releases, the screens/sound systems are good quality and the seating is pretty decent. If you come during the day there are several decent options in the food court downstairs as well. If you are driving in I'd definitely suggest one of the newer theaters, but Eau Claire is an excellent option for anyone living in the downtown core who wants to get to a decent theater quickly.
If you want to experience what going to the movies was like in the 90s this is the place to check out. Definitely needs a remodel and a refresh. But the staff are super helpful, and if you like having the whole theater to yourself it is great.
I like going here but the Cinema needs an overhaul, it’s too old. Screens have scratches on them, seats are not comfortable, etc. But there is an upside, not many people come here so it is often empty and it’s fun having a cinema to yourself...
Good location, good choice of shows but: - Grungy seats. - The trailers and ads before the show were excessively loud. - Suspecting that the commercial gym, adjacent to theatre #1 was busy with heavy weight lifting. During the presentation, we felt about a dozen thudding vibrations, consistent with the impact of heavy objects dropped on the concrete structure. Somewhat distracting and undesirable. Avoid that room if you can.
A dated piece of architecture, but so convenient for parking whilst exploring city and Bow river, Prince’s Island. The cinema and Nepalese store inside are wonderful.
It's a bit older, and doesn't have the best sound or picture quality. And the seats aren't great. But I love coming here for a few reasons. First as a transit user, the central location is great. I also like that their late shows start by 9pm most of tge time, instead of at 10:00-10:30 like most cinemas, as I can see a night show, be done at 11, and transit is still running to get me home. Only theater in the city with showtimes like that. They also get a lot of independent and more obscure films, like the Oscar contenders, that don't usually open anywhere else. So that gets me there. The staff are generally very good and pleasant. The wait time can be a little long if a lineup forms, but I always show up about 30 minutes early. I always enjoy coming here.
Small theater, but it plays art house things and plays, as well as a selection of new releases.
If you want to experience what going to the movies was like in the 90s this is the place to check out. Definitely needs a remodel and a refresh. But the staff are super helpful, and if you like having the whole theater to yourself it is great.
Nice alternative to the big format suburban theatres. You can enjoy being at a nearby pub or restaurant before and after and walk along the river. A great way to spend a night in downtown Calgary
The staff where friendly but this place really needs to upgrade there nasty seats Unfortunately because of this I would recommend going to a different location and it drops them to 2 stars. I will edit my review if they do something about the seats.
Love this place, really good reception staff. The food staff could really use a smile. It's like they are being forced to work there.
It's selling feature is location and bringing in movies you can't find anywhere else. On the downside, it's old - uncomfortable seats, no box office service, long refreshment lines.
decent theater. good location
When I go to a movie theater, the first reason I go is to watch a movie on the big screen. Unfortunately, that is the only thing I got out of going to this theater. As for all the other reasons I go to a theater, this place ruined it all. Popcorn was old, seats were too small and cramped to enjoy the movie, and the floors were incredibly sticky like they hadn't been cleaned in a week. Would not recommend. Go to landmark.
The female manager Taylor was extremely rude and unhelpful.. super unorganized... there was another manager I believe his name was Steve he was very helpful and polite I took out my frustrations on him unfortunately because Taylor was unwilling to listen... if you see this i apologize for you coworkers incompetence
Good location, good price! Parking always available
I felt in 1950's. Not in a good way.
Comfortable seats, interesting shows.
Seats are a little uncomfortable (unless your movie is playing in the old IMAX theatre next door). No afternoon shows. Otherwise okay, and pretty much the only mainstream movie theatre left downtown.
Good place for watching movies away from the crowd at Chinook.
The chairs are uncomfortable, they need to update the theater rooms. They are very outdated !!! I got Parking ticket, I had no idea where to park my car if I am visiting this old theater!!
Nice, clean movie theater. I appreciate them hosting part of the film festival
5 stars because any place in Calgary i'm not forced to drive to should get that, also the theatres are in wacky places so really easy to sneak in food. And they show movies that others often dont.
Location is decent and staff are friendly but the seats themselves are terrible. I couldn't wait for the movie to finish as it was super uncomfortable.
I loved seeing a movie in the steep terraced seating theatre Cinema #6. Hated the popcorn, which may have been better the day before when they made it.
Good, big screens. Try not to get the first few rows though, they're too close to the screen. Parking is great for bikes. For cars, not so much: it's downtown!
Nice little theatre although it could use a bit of upgrading in regards to the seating...
I'd recommend this place for opening weekends if you want to avoid crowds. It's normally so dead here. Screens not so big. Seats hurt my butt. They don't have the timeplay games 30 min before the movies! Also heard the cleaners loudly complaining to each other how customers should bring their garbage home for a few minutes...
I love this Cineplex theater! Not usually too busy and the lobby is nice and open. There is a ton of street parking nearby, and it's always free after 6 PM. All the big block busters show here, and for many weeks which makes it easy for me to catch any movie I want to see on Tuesday's cheap night :)
Cool setup for a corporate presentation
Watching a great movie in the massive theater that used to be the IMAX back when I was a kid? Epic.
Old style seating not a big fan of it.
I'll leave out the pleasantries of how bad and absurdly overpriced the general movie-going experience has become and stick to this specific cinema. I've seen two movies here in the last few months. The first, was out of focus for the first twenty minutes and none of the staff noticed until somebody had to leave the cinema (and miss part of the movie they paid to see) and bring the issue to the their attention. I also recently caught the Avengers here, they started it twenty minutes late because, again, we were told the staff didn't realize the movie hadn't started. I hope they fix these issues, as this is a convenient downtown location for a lot of people in Calgary, however, the best explanation I can find for the problem right now is a strong suspicion that they purposely understaff to save money.
We had a great time. The theatre is a bit older, and some of the chairs could use repairing. We enjoyed the movie experience and would come again.
Seating in their stadium theatre sucks. Popcorn was cold, dry/stale.
Older theatre but great service with a smile and the theatre was clean
Okay I was looking for Marty and Doc as I somehow found myself in 1985... Physics states time travel is impossible, I beg to differ... Seriously needs updating. The concession stand is massively overpriced. Two popcorns, two pops, and thirty dollars later...
Older theater but good if you like the downtown atmosphere and night life
Rude staff. I would rather save the $50 and watch movies for free at home.
A good quiet theater with cheap underground parking even on the weekends. Even better if you can go on a Tuesday for discounted movies. You can fill up at the food court in the market before the show
Nice place but some rooms are very small.
Nice to have a theater downtown however their seats are outdated and very uncomfortable.
A good place too catch a movie with the family.
Great place to a catch a movie!
An affordable theater right downtown.
Awesome place you can have quality time with kids as they have a nice play area.
I love having a Cineplex that is located downtown! They don’t always have every movie playing but usually have the most popular ones running.
Never real busy. Quiet, clean and comfortable atmosphere. Seems to appeal to the older generation rather than the teenagers. ????????????
The worst cinema I have ever been in my life. No headrest and cheap uncomfy chairs. Never ever try to visit.
It was a grimy old theatre, that quite honestly I didn't mind, but it just made me feel uneasy. Perhaps because we were the only other people in the entire building it gave off a spooky vibe, but I was checking over my shoulders in the dark theatre lol
This place is ancient. Should not be charging full price to feel like you are sitting in a cramped dank basement.
Good place to watch movies and snacks..
I really like the old school feel to the theatre. But the chairs really need to be refurbished. Yes the chairs are not comfortable and the spacing between the rows are not well spaced out, but the chairs themselves are dingy and dusty cloth chairs. Not sure how it's possible to sanitize these types of chairs especially up to the standards needed during covid.
This is not the best theater in Calgary. Only reason to go here is the typically show the limited release titles you can't get at better theaters, like Chinook
Great movies but it needs more maintenance.
Great place for a movie , nothing special but in it's nice location , lots of stuff to do before and after your show. Rarely busy , and good options for movies.
Great theater for special shows and documentaries. Demand films play here.
Dark, dingy, old and in need of a remodel. It's also ridiculously cold in their theaters.
One of the best places in town to see a movie! Almost never crowded.
I have been coming to this theater for over 20 yrs. I will miss it's relaxing, familiar feel if they ever renovate the mall. It doesn't provide some of the activities other Cineplexes have(arcades) but I still like it's location & appeal better.
Really liked the steep seating and oversized screen
Very poor theaTre for sound... Another reason for Eau Claire to be bulldozed to sub sea level is to sub Sea
