My Dad passed away April 1st, as we were all into the Co-Vid lockdown. That, of course, added another layer of stress to an already difficult situation. Rutherford's truly showed its care for the community this month. When the eldest son of a struggling refugee family from Sudan took his own life, it was clear that people in Stratford wanted to step up and help them, and this funeral was part of that. Rutherford's donated their services, and hosted a graveside service for the family and community guests. Really above and beyond.

I have lost a few people over the years, and as a result, have had several different "death experiences" when it comes to funerals. Some good, some terrible. I can honestly say, that my experience of Stuart Lender, who runs Rutherford Funeral Homes , was exceptional. He is kind, caring, honest - and shows no discomfort, or shame when discussing death, funeral planning, cremation - you name it. It is so clear that he cares DEEPLY about people, his community, and about offering a positive experience during one of the most difficult times in a person's life. Stuart is happy to offer traditional funeral services, and is equally open to personalizing things for the family, and in following the wishes of the deceased, even if unconventional. Some folks may initially be put off by the funeral home's location, but I appreciated it being tucked away (and so close to A&W - which was a favourite of my Mom's. She would have loved it!). Stuart is so willing to go above & beyond - what a valuable community member. While I would love to say, "I hope to never set foot in a funeral home again" - life just doesn't work that way...so I will happily say, that the next time I am in need of help with funeral arrangements, Stuart is the first, and only person I will turn to.
