REVIEWS OF Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery IN Lévis

Many historic figures are buried here, and there are many really beautiful headstones. While visiting I felt safe, and didnt see any concerns with litter, poor care of the grounds, or any real problems.

Jacob Bower-Bir

Be on the lookout for some wonderful Art Deco headstones and monuments.

This is a great setting for artists and photographers. It's quiet, scenic, vast. I've done a few watercolor paintings here, both as student and teacher. The deer population is a charming bonus attraction. Visiting a cemetery is sure to change your perspective, too: nothing lasts forever. Please do take a map or use GPS and tag your parking place. It is deceptively easy to get lost. I have gotten lost many times! Mosquito repellant is a good idea, too, if you plan to be out there for awhile.

My favorite cemetery to visit since April,1969 when I was 18. So peaceful, well kept as large as it is. It's the place I would love to be buried IF my wife will let me...cause it's my birth hometown.

Jamie Hill

I love taking a stroll through Crown Hill cemetery whenever I have a chance. It is especially beautiful during the fall months, as all of the leaves are changing colors! I love that you can see the city skyline in the background. Make sure you go up the steep hill to see the city skyline view. You won’t regret it!

Mary Ellen Defrees

It was awesome!!!!

I used Crown Hill for their services and cemetery . I feel that we were completely taken advantage of. I paid over $22k for a funeral. There was nothing fancy or extravagant. They supposedly removed several fees because they couldn’t do certain things because of COVID. I’d hate to see the cost with those fees. We were all still in shock when we were planning it. I guess we assumed a well known funeral home wouldn’t take advantage of us. We were wrong. I refuse to buy a headstone from them. But, they are making me pay an additional $895 for the base…plus a $150 processing fee. The cemetery is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Although, I would highly recommend doing your funeral with another company and only using them for the gravesite.

Pretty cemetery. BIG.

Beautiful cemetery. Every visitor to Indianapolis should visit. One of the largest cemeteries in the United States.

This is a cemetery I would recommend visiting if you’re going to, or passing through, Indianapolis. There is so much to see here. There are so many interesting and old (very old) gravestones. It’s a beautiful property to walk around in.

Kate Crisp (Vita)

Lovely park like resting spot

Koa Campbell

It's a beautiful cemetery but I wanna know if the gate to the cemetery are closed if the funeral home is closed

So disappointed in the lack of compassion and concern for details. I have been frustrated and upset every time I communicate with them. In 7 years I've buried 3 of my closest family members there. Many other members are there as well. The staff's biggest concern is getting you to spend as much money as possible and giving you little service after that. I can't deal with them any more

Bryce Caster

As weird as it sounds, the Crown Hill Cemetery is a great spot to catch a view of downtown Indianapolis- the gravesite of James Whitcomb Riley is actually the highest point in pre-unigov Indianapolis.

I have some great encounters with the staff during my hard time

Greg White

I was impressed by Crown Hill's attention to detail and breath of offerings for such a unique occassion ! It really does take the anxiety and uncertainy out of the process.. It gives me a sense of relief to have completed this process1

The time that I spent there during a loved ones funeral was met with staff who were ineffectual and inept. When I presented a manager with an issue I was met with an attitude to what I surmise was haste, non-response, and disappearance (because I did not see them for the rest of the visitation and service.) I was then given to a manager higher up and a guy more stuffy and full of words that, words were less spun in Shakespeare then in the response I received (and nothing was still done). The fact that a menial concern was not dealt with leads me to believe that they cannot even do the most simple of task (like the one I was concerned with) without ignoring it immediately. Once at the cemetery the staff there were great and caring including the grave people. Not sure why the two can't align those things so people won't have to be angry to the point of sickness. I would never recommend the funeral home to anyone.

It is a large location and has multiple rooms for various services. The staff is very accommodating and help to all the family during their difficult times.

The people working in the office were so kind to help me locate a headstone I was looking for. They had photocopied plot maps ready and even went so far as to use their database to identify some of the headstones along the road that could guide my way and marked them on the map for me. They were happy to make small talk and didn't rush me out of the office. The cemetery itself was beautiful and well-kept. None of the headstones I saw were overgrown or had the kind of damage that comes from careless groundskeepers.

Would of been 5 but was threatened badly. Also great scenery. Was scared this morning. I visited the cemetey for the first time ever and spent two days exploring. On Sunday morning I wanted to take a relaxing walk through the cemetery and I sat down on the bench behind this statue, to relax for a moment before walking again. As I started to read a few Whitcomb poems before I see his grave, a man came out of the brushes and asked for my name. He as wearing a tshirt and had a bunch of the small American flags. After giving a name, he started trying to scare me by stating that he is in the military and that he worked for the cemetery. Than he started to chew me out for having a phone because that was "disrespectful to the people that are buried there." Than he started ranting and raving that the Bible is not real and that the owners of the property are worshippers of the Egyptian gods of old and that it was "disrespectful to the people buried there" to read the Bible and be a Christians. He proceeds to tell me that Christians should not be in the cemetery. So I watched him walk away and than I started to walk back to the jeep, downhearted. he comes back and, waving his arms, proceeded to tell me that being around anyone's grave in that cemetery is disgusting. I had a sinking feeling in my gut as I was pressured to leave because he started to act like he wanted to do bodily harm. I don't usually carry but I wished that I did in that moment, not knowing what he was going to do. He walked away again and I ran to the jeep and got off of the property. I filed a report with the funeral home but haven't heard back yet.

I really didn’t want to even post a bad review here but hopefully I will get a call returned after 10 months! My Son is buried here after passing 18yrs ago and I was scammed out of a lot of money for his first headstone so I was so devastated that I decided I’ll just leave his final resting place as is! Well a few years ago I decided to have a change of heart and try to trust someone enough to go through getting another headstone made and last June it was delivered to my home. I then contacted C. Hill the details so that I could have it placed because of course you can’t place it yourself so I was told it’d be roughly $300 to get that done! Great so the day I was told to call to reach the lady in charge of placement she so happened to be away “having surgery” after I had been given the runaround weekly! I then was “ promised by a guy named Josh that he would be taking care of it and to call him on a Friday and he would “handle it! Monday’s are my free days and since Covid last year I was off 6months WFH so I had a lot of free time to get business taken care of. Today my Sons headstone still sits in the back of my truck in the garage as of the today!!! I contacted them Monday morning a lady answered wrote down my name and still no one contacted me...I would NEVER as a business allow someone to be treated like this, especially when they’ve already been through enough in life. How would you feel every time you opened your door you’re constantly reminded that his headstone still hasn’t been placed! And I’ve literally sat in the parking lot on a Monday waited a while for a worker to come out that I can speak to, but because of Covid the doors are locked and was told I have to call the # on the door! I’m more than disappointed and hopefully I get a call after 10 months of taking it here! Last but not least the older Lady who has answered my call, left a message for me, or even transferred me many of times “Thank You! Update: I have not nor probably will I ever get a simple call! I’ve waited patiently and even was told by the manager herself I would be contacted was sent a email that she would be out of the office and someone would be contacting me here it is May 26, 2021 and not one call from anyone!!! Just sad and had this been their loved one they would or should feel the same! A sad world we leave in!!! Memorial Day is Monday and of course I’ll be there to visit my Sons site yet again with his headstone still in the garage in the back of my truck! Hopefully I’ll get a chance to talk to someone or at least get somewhere in person!!!! UPDATE: Monday July 12, 2021 My Sons headstone still hasn’t been placed and was promised a email in May. This company is heartless and I have to deal with them only because my Son is buried there! I’m up and me and my husband was talking about how they still haven’t contacted me…I will try again tomorrow and after that I’ll place his headstone myself and keep my $300

I do love a good cemetery! Crown hill seems to be the best in Indiana, and has more Vice Presidents than any other. James Whitcomb Riley’s Greek revival hilltop tomb is beautiful and has a lovely view. Dillinger was a little hard to find, but nice that he made it to the family plot. The Stan Malless tennis net marker was my favorite.

Evan Price did a great job at helping my mother and I with the burial arrangements for my grandmother and at the after care visit he was very kind and patient, he made us laugh and feel comfortable. He answered all of our questions, gave suggestions and provided excellent grieving resources.

I have dealt with better car salespeople. Their lack of responsiveness has cost them at least 6 funeral services, because I and my family will take our business elsewhere. I spent 3 weeks trying to get an answer to my inquiry, only to get the runaround, finally getting an answer to my inquiry. Very unprofessional and undignified, the complete opposite of what you would expect in this industry.

If you're looking for a quiet place to get away from the city, stop by Crown Hill Cemetery. The architecture and mortuary art are beautiful.

Edward Johnson

Excellent staff and service!! Yoshanda Glazebrooks-Allen is especially responsible for my review as she handled my family with great care and professionalism. She was extremely knowledgeable, caring, patient and responsive. Yoshanda helped us pull our thoughts and ideas together during a very emotional time and turned them into a home going service our loved one dearly deserved. She made all last minute changes efficiently, with a smile and a guiding hand. The Johnson family can't thank Yoshanda and the entire Crown Hill Funeral Home staff enough for the above and beyond service they provided.

Gina Hohenstatt

I'd like to thank Evan Price for his assistance with arrangements for my mother's memorial. Mother donated her body to the UI Medical School Anatomical Gift Program and chose to have her cremains inurned along with the other donors at Crown Hill's Memorial Wall. Evan helped by showing what a lovely area that has been dedicated for the the donors and offered suggestions on how to personalize the memorial area with various options. Our family selected a personalized bronze plaque.

Creepy and morbid you may think, or historic and interesting. Go through the Gothic gates. Visit the Gothic chapel. Get a map. Visit former Benjamin Harris' grave, Gatlinburg (maker of Gatling gun), John Dilinger...and many beautiful monuments. If you like architecture, art, and sculptures then go take a look.

After the death of my wife I was served by Evan Price at Crown Hill Cemetery. I found Evan to be compassionate, knowledgeable, and acceptable. He guided me well through the burial process and provided with some very informative and helpful information after the service. I would recommend Crown Hill! We had prearranged our needs. I would highly advise others to do the same.

Carol Marinangeli

Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery and specifically Brandon Ware treated our family with the utmost respect and dignity through our burial process. Brandon was thorough with the information we needed and was always diligent in returning our calls and answering our questions. Thanks to Brandon the burial process was less stressful and we always felt he seemed like a partner in the process.

My mother passed on August 16th I ordered cremation jewelry a necklace for my daughter and I also ordered a necklace for my son I have spent the whole month trying to get this jewelry and now I've requested a refund and I cannot even seem to get a refund on the jewelry that I can't get and they won't call me back my mother was cremated and I feel like since she was cremated that she was not a priority to them that you know I don't deserve a call back

On July of last year my husband passed away. He was buried at Crown Hill. I will always appreciate the Staff who helped me and my step daughter put the service together. Sometimes at these moments you don’t always think clearly. But with the help of Jacob Halstead, Megan and Carol everything went smoothly. Jacob went beyond the call of duty. All things were set up beautiful. I can’t say enough how pleased I was with Crown Hill and all the staff. My mind was put at ease with all the help. Thanks to everyone for their support. You have very caring people and beautiful place to be. God Bless! Earlene Steward

It is an understatement to say that making funeral/burial arrangements for a loved one is difficult. Of course the challenge is magnified due to Covid-19, which makes the process even more challenging. Crown Hill has been putting loved ones to rest for more than 100 years and they know what they are doing. Our funeral director was Levi Elliott, and he was a joy to work with even during these difficult times. Crown Hill and the staff was always accommodating and helpful even with last minute requests. My family has entrusted Crown Hill for several generations for providing their final resting place. So, it is no question in my mind that Crown Hill will also be my final resting place regardless of where I reside while alive. My final resting place will certainly be Crown Hill. I would highly recommend Crown Hill WITHOUT question as an excellent choice for planning your loved ones funeral/burial arrangements.

I don't post reviews but wanted to convey the poor experience we received from Crown Hill recently. We prepaid for a funeral service and burial and when it came time to schedule the service, I called at 8am to schedule. I was told a funeral director would call "within 15 min". I called again multiple times throughout the day and was told someone would call shortly. 8 hrs later I get a call telling me I would have to wait 3 days to schedule the service. Since we are out of town, we were trying to book for a Sat. The next available Sat was 3 wks away. Crown Hill said they would charge $3000 extra to have it on a Sunday. Just another way money grab since its most convenient for everyone to have a service on the weekends. I pulled the contract and transferred to another local home that was very nice & accommodating. The service from Crown Hill was extremely poor and the lack of compassion was shocking. We were treated like a number and just another source of income. Bait and switch. Go somewhere else that can give you the attention you and your family deserve.

Kevin

Very helpful in locating relatives for family tree research.

With the sudden and tragic death of my husband several months ago, (he was killed by a drunk driver), my daughter's and my lives changed in an instant. Although familiar with Crown Hill Cemetery, the unexpected and difficult preparation for his burial appeared daunting. However, the professional, supportive and expert assistance of Mr. Brandon Ware lightened this burden. His care and compassion were invaluable, as the perfect and most meaningful resting place for my husband was found. My sincerest thanks to all at Crown Hill for maintaining such a beautiful and peaceful cemetery, Irene T. Kratsios

I had a mostly awesome experience after the death of my beloved mother two months ago. There were a few hiccups but they have for the most part been resolved. The service and presentation were stunning. Our attendant Vanessa Conley was EXCEPTIONALLY fantastic we love her!!! I would recommend Crown Hill to anyone. The package of mementos and bereavement support information sent home with the family is incredibly useful! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Getting the obituary written was absolutely grueling, a much longer process than it should have been... and we even had it written out word for word. Even after such a long process, got home to read and one of our family members name's was spelled incorrectly- in addition to several grammatical errors that we finally decided not to address. Please make sure that you are an expert or take one with you to avoid embarrassment. Looked back at others to find they had the same problem... Someone who is writing obits should have an excellent grasp on writing skills.

My husband, James Everett passed away on November 13, 2021. I called Crown Hill Funeral Home for their assistance. Yoshanda Glazebrooks began by offering her condolences. From that moment, I felt someone understood my pain. When I met Ms. Glazebrooks I was greeted warmly. She was professional, organized, knowledgeable, and extremely patient. Her self confidence gave me a sense of security as we planned my husband's celebration of life. All my questions were answered, and phone calls were promptly returned. On the day of the memorial service, I was impressed by the coordination of the ceremony, military honors, and the repast. I am still sadly grieving, yet, comforted in knowing every effort was utilized in our preparations to honor my husband. I want to express my gratitude to Yoshanda Glazebrooks and the Crown Hill Funeral Home staff. Sincerely Marilyn Everett

Both sides of my family have always done business with Crown Hill Cemetery over the years. But the recent visit for arrangements for my father really stood out. They are absolutely exceptional at what they do. They think of everything and make the process as easy as they can. All of the staff members are phenomenal. I can't say thank you enough for the empathy, professionalism, kindness, patience, and loving nature. All accommodations were met. There is none better in the nation. They are the third largest cemetery in the nation. You would never know that because they're so modest and treat everyone the exact same regardless of background. If you want to be treated with respect and want the absolute best for your loved ones Crown Hill is the place.

Recently I lost my brother and worked with a representative named Evan Price for his burial needs. Evans was very compassionate and worked with our family to ensure he was with us through this difficult time.
