My wife Tammy and I were unexpectedly having to deal with the passing of her father on new year's eve (2021) in Nova Scotia. There was nothing was planned in advance, no will in place, funds set aside, my father-in-law lived very modestly. We were sensitive to the costs. I picked 6 facilities to contact to do my best to find the best solution. out of sheer luck, T.J. Tracey was on the list that I created to contact. I had only found one provider who listed any prices on their website and for the basic cremation with no service, the cost was $2,200.00 plus tax, so I figured that in the worst case scenario that would be the one we would choose if we couldn't find a better price. the 1st provider I reached out to, quoted me a base price of $4,500.00 for the basic cremation with no services, which took the wind out of my sails and led me to believe that we would in all likelihood be reaching out to the one for $2,200.00. The 2nd provider was around the $3,500.00 mark, but both of the first 2 providers I reached out to were non-personal and you could smell the fakeness of compassion with simply the sale amount being the important part of the conversation adding a sour taste to the dealings with "these people", who I simply believe spend their time taking advantage of people and families during an incredibly hard time, when they might not be in the best frame of mind to be dealing with financial decisions. My third call however, by sheer luck, happened to be to T.J. Tracey, afterhours as a matter of fact as we just spent all of the first day cleaning and emptying out my father-in-law's apartment and it was well into the evening. Trevor answered the phone and the compassion on this call, was different, it didn't come off as "fake" and further to that, I am a very direct person and one of the first things that I made very clear, was that we are on a tight budget and we are doing our very best to keep the costs down. Trevor let me know that their basic cremation service cost was $1,465.00 plus tax (I sighed some relief as that price was by far the most reasonable and well under the prior lowest price of $2,200), but he said "let's talk about that later". He asked me for my email address, which I provided to him, and he proceeded to instantly email me a couple of documents. He explained to me that no matter who we chose, that we would need to get these documents filled out as soon as possible, as they list out "all" of the information that we will need to provide in order to complete this process. So, without any benefit to himself and in compassion and consideration, he provided us with valuable information that we did not know as this is the first occasion that either my wife or I were in the position of having to complete this somber task. Then Trevor went one step further, he said to me that if price was the primary concern, then he knew of one other provider that provided the cremation service for cheaper than his price, I don't remember the exact amount, I believe it was in the area of $150.00 cheaper than T.J. Tracey, but he provided me with the other provider's name. It was at that exact moment, that it cemented in my mind, that I wanted to deal with Trevor and T.J. Tracey plain and simple, he gained my trust with that selfless gesture and the price became less relevant than the person I would rather conduct my business with. turned out that Trevor (Trevor Tracey), was in fact one of the owners of T.J. Tracey and in my estimation was one of the best suited people for this line of work, a nice person who genuinely cares about people and helping them out in this particularly hard time in their lives. I never had the pleasure of meeting Trevor in person, I would have liked to shake his hand as he was incredibly helpful in this affair. I could not recommend MORE the use of their services if you are ever in the need of funeral or cremation services in the Halifax/Glace Bay area, you would not regret the decision. Jeff and Tammy
