(Translated) A very nice place to walk or sit in the sun, fewer people (alive) than Mount Royal Park next door. There are very beautiful tombs and statues and of course lots of greenery.

(Translated) Note that there are two cemeteries on the mountain, if you are arriving from avenue du pac Mont Royal Cemetery is the first one you will see, the door is right next to the first bus stop you will see in front of the parking lot. If you advance about 300 meters after crossing the police station, you will see a second door belonging to another cemetery, which is the nostra dame de niege cemetery. And these two NOOO ARE INTERCONNECTED WITHIN.

Lovely place for bird and nature photographers. Very varied tree and plant species that attract the most colorful and prettiest birds during migration. Home also to red fox, groundhogs and many more furry friends.

(Translated) I should not leave this opinion because it risks attracting people when all the charm of this place is precisely, for those who like to collect, the most beautiful place in Montreal. Nothing "creepy" as one might imagine since it is a cemetery: it is the most beautiful place in Montreal, day and night. See Hubert Reeves' book on this cemetery and the Orion Constellation. (UFO hunters shall be pleased, if they're somewhat a bit lucky). I suggest not going alone at night if you are fearful or a fragile woman. (UFO hunters shall be pleased, if they're somewhat a bit lucky).

(Translated) I fully agree with the cemetery management to finally put an end to the circulation of cyclists in the cemetery, since it had really become indecent for such a place to dedicate to meditation and prayer. It was appalling to see how you could use this place as a sports arena, without any respect for the bereaved, even on the days of burial. The cemetery is not a place to play sports or picnic or even to walk your dog. There is the mountain, Lac des Castors park and plenty of places in Montreal to play sports outside a cemetery.

Old Jewish and Christian cemetery Visited at sunset, very peaceful place even though its a bit scary at night. Its back to 18 century , very large. Graves are modest compared to Europe cemeteries ( paris, London, Bucharest).

Chelsea Patterson

Amazing place for a nature walk or to visit the dead. Its creepy to say but the architecture of some of the tombstones are amazing. The roads are fun to walk, bike or drive. They will also help you find love ones. The creepiest thing about this place is my radio always cuts out when I'm inside.

Laurence Morel

(Translated) Very well maintained paths even in winter making it an ideal place for walking. A shortcut to the mountain. A negative point, motorists use the cemetery as an alternative to Camille Houde.

I could get lost at this cemetery for hours on end. It's like a beautiful park with trees filled with a strange peace that reminds you everything is temporary. You almost miss having to walk all the way back home just to take a quick bite, but you manage. You also feel a little better now after your hike than when you got here. Your head hurts and so does your feet from walking all night long, which makes eating that much easier too. Not like it was pleasant walking all over those roads in the middle of the evening...

Wonderful setting. Every visit is memorable. The cemetery grounds sprawl across the mountainside with lots of roadways and walkways winding through the different sections. The experience of attending a family gravesite is powerful. The gates, the buildings, the monuments: it’s a testament to tradition.

(Translated) My mother has recently been buried there. Nice place. Always more and more DIFFICULT to access for us who come from Lanaudière. The car access roads in the cemetery are often impassable due to the quantity of pedestrians, cyclists and dog walkers who do not RESPECT OTHERS AT ALL BY STAYING IN THE CENTER IN THE CENTER OF THE PAVEMENT. This is by no means a private place where you can have a quiet funeral and respectfully bid farewell without even having your picture taken. PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT ???? (Original) Ma mère y est enterrée depuis peu. Bel endroit.

Beautiful cemetery on the dark side of Mount Royal. Well kept and pristine, it’s a quiet escape from the bustling city. I like the cell phone tower that protrudes out of the top of the park, as if the dead are trying to contact the living.

(Translated) Very disappointed that you choose to ban cyclists because of a disrespectful minority, I would have liked this to be fair for all and that you also ban motorists who are a majority to come to the cemetery. If not tell me how do we know if we are traveling at less than 10km / hour by bike? Completely insane regulation, because for example elsewhere like the small north train, a track which is shared with pedestrians, it is 20 km and it is not badly less wide than several paths at home. Otherwise I would like you to show us a detailed report on the number of incidents which involved a cyclist, pedestrian and motorists, because for example still yesterday on bicycle, pedestrians were walking in the middle of a 5-wide alley, what should I do exactly? Give them priority without saying anything? Moment given respect that this deserves. Are you going to ban the use of both legs soon enough?

I spend a lot of time in cemeteries so I am alive unlike the other comments below. I do family history and also finding the place of famous dead folks. My first trip here in April of 2014, was a wash out as it was much too early in the cemetery season to go walking through the snow. I hope to visit again shortly like in two weeks and will write a follow up from this note here. The lady told me in the office that they have a app which will take you right to the stone you are looking for. Nice but I have no iPhone, etc. I will have to do this the old way. Sat Oct the 17th I will be back and hope to find the famous graves I could not find a few years ago. My visit is now done for the October 2015. I was in town for a hockey game and had to visit here. With the help of the office staff and you will need their help, I found the graves of Toe Blake, which I walked past, Howie Morenz which I walked past right near the tree, and John Redpath which I drove past. This cemetery is massive and I have been in a lot of them. Mark your GPS Unit before you leave the office, or you will NEVER find your way back. There are two ways to get into the cemetery both on opposite sides of the cemetery. Visit the office before you head out, you will need their help.

A huge area. However the shaar hashomayim section is not yet computerised to the latest technology! The attendant indicates in simple wording how to find the burial place of your loved ones. In reality it is a real struggle. Best to speak to Mr. Gelber on how to improve the present status. Again the cemetery is in an ideal spot within Montreal. Access is a short drive. Cost of burial on that spot not affordable to all. Within the given area the plots look mostly taken. A handier burial formula should be researched for possible overflow. Some esthetic care should be looked after the metal rods surrounding the cemetery. Dying is not easy and the cemetery is a living proof that it is indeed! May all those buried rest in peace!

Samuel Bramwell

It's a beautiful, peaceful park unless you're trying to find a specific plot, then forget about it you will never find it unless you've been there before and know exactly where it is. There a barely any signs at all and when there is they don't make any sense. Nor do the maps and trails correspond to each other. My gf and I spent 2hr looking for her grandmother's plot to no avail. Even when we found the right section the grave wasn't where it had been indicated.

I've been to the Mt-Royal Cemetery for well over a decade taking long walks around the place. Probably the most calm and clean location on the whole island (at least where most people tend to reside). I'm always amazed at how well maintained it is year-long. Some notable encounter I've had include foxes, wild turkey and marmots. I'd recommend taking the bus (11 Parc-du-Mont-Royal).

I’ve stayed here for about 50 years, very lovely place. The accommodations are nice, and the neighbours are quiet. Would definitely recommend! (Unless you prefer a more lively neighbourhood). ????

My wife and I went for a lovely walk through this cemetery, and chatted with Eddy, one of the groundskeepers. Nice man. Gave us some history of seeing Pierre Elliott Trudeau strolling through this park eons ago. Such a peaceful place. Can honestly say that I I have never taken a stroll through a cemetery before but this is worth doing! Wear good shoes as the hike to the highest point will test your legs!

(Translated) Today, in 10 minutes in front of the north side gate with my bike trying to understand the merits of such a ban, I saw a woman carrying her stroller over the gates to be able to leave the cemetery with her child. I also saw a person at mobility impaired turn around as it was impossible for her to enter. This measure is discriminatory. You should be able to enter in a wheelchair, in a stroller, on foot with your bike alongside, which is no longer possible today. This cemetery is a heritage that belongs to Montrealers, to Quebec families, of immigrant background, to natives. We must respect the place, of course, but this ban goes against the respect for individual freedoms. It’s a shame to come to this.

Went to the cemetery on Sunday, June 6th, it was closed. Sign on the front gate said closed on Sundays. Why is that? People work on weekdays, we use the weekends to plan other things. Why not close on Mondays when most people are working and not going to see their loved ones. I don't get it.
