I’ve recently shopped around (yes “shopping”) for funeral services and a burial plot and finally have decided to deal with Magnus Poirier based on their perceived level of service and then on fees. Also, the integrity and the sincerity of the funeral director played an important role in my selection of the service provider, I’ve worked with Fares Khoubbieh from Magnus Poirier. I’ve visited 3 funeral homes, where 2 were in the Westisland and Magnus Poirier (“MP”) in Laval. I will not name the other 2 funeral homes in my review but I am sure you can guess who they are. MP was clear on what are the services they provide during a funeral {...FYI - I found one of the funeral services provider from the Westisland: very vague and hard to obtain a clear view of their funeral services and their fees. Even, after agreeing to take an appointment at their office and almost after 90 minutes, I've left with no clear picture of the funeral services or their price. I felt they were stalling so I would run out of time – as my dear departed family member was given a few days to live and I felt they were playing on my emotions to make a decision. Also, I was promised one thing over the phone and when we met I was offered something different. One comment if you are looking for a funeral home don't show emotions....} Back to MP, they have shared as much details as I’ve requested. MB have also provided even a price quotation in writing (this was not provided by other funeral homes over concerns that I would take their fees and shop around). I’ve taken two visitation days at MP Laval and bought one of their burial plots at Laval. Here are my observations: • Excellent logistics. Clean and new furniture, and a number of visitation areas are available. Even their coffee was of excellent quality. Their attention to details was of high standard. • MG was very flexible with visitation hours and days (we have taken more hours than what agreed on the 2 visitation days). Other than the 2 visitation days that were scheduled/agreed with MP, our guests after the burial were looking for a place to spend 2 hours unexpectedly; MP agreed to have us at their funeral home; they have provided coffee and bought for us special cookies/cakes during those unscheduled 2 hours. • Limousine and hearse were clean and no rust (other funeral homes included in their fleet old cars with clear rust on the body). • Integrity and professionalism of their staff was comforting and of high standard before, during and after the funeral. • MP’s fees were lower for all services when compared to other providers; I get that a burial plot in the Westisland would be more expensive when compared to a plot offered by MP at Laval. However, the monument and casket, opening and closing of the burial plot, and services were all at a lower price with MP and of excellent quality. • The MP burial land is spacious and very peaceful (you need to see the lots before you buy – a strong recommendation) • The location of the MP at 222 Boulevard des Laurentides, Laval was not ideal for me initially as their parking lot is shared and was afraid to run out of space. I did not have any parking issues on either of the 3 visitation days (they were on December 24 and 25, and burial on the 26th – these are not busy days. However, the excellent service of MP would have compensated for the parking concern which I have had initially).

(Translated) NB: This comment was written after several complaints that I have already mentioned to the people concerned I have been a technician for the CSSS de Laval for over 20 years and I support families who are bereaved or families whose loved one is in the terminal phase. For all these years, having had excellent personal service and excellent comments from my clients, I have referred people to call a member of the Magnus Poirier team. Since the Covid, I had to personally get involved in 3 files that I referred to this place that I deduced which had a big personality problem and the employees royally lacking in empathy. To give you an example, 2 weeks ago, I referred this place to 3 women that their mother was terminally ill at the Cité de la Santé. They met a lady who sold them Pre-Arrangements. Despite their ages, this lady spoke to them as if they were school children without any professionalism. She answered her home phone several times and kept repeating what she was saying. Extremely slow, this meeting lasted more than 3 hours despite wanting to be at their mothers' bedside. She sold them arrangements without giving them any other choice at an exorbitant price. The mother died 2 days later and they dealt with another counselor who they felt had better service. I am speechless, I will continue to refer Magnus Poirier but I solemnly hope that the service will change and that above all our customers will be RESPECTED!
