I bought a spa package at Nakai for my wife and she loved it. This is a really uniquely decorated spot. Lots of easy parking and close to a bunch of retail outlets.

We were traveling through the area and needed I needed a trim for my long, straight hair. Based upon the reviews of this salon, I thought I was in good hands. I walked in and was immediately escorted to the chair by the stylist — no name or introduction given. What followed was the quickest haircut I've ever received. A 5 minute dry cut followed by an 10 minute shampoo, and then a blow dry that left my hair damp. When she asked for feedback the stylist seemed upset that I asked for a little more length taken off and more attention to be paid to my layers and general style. For $50 I think asking for attention to detail is normal. She said it was up to me, and refused to give any sort of professional input or opinion. Upon leaving she didn't say goodbye or make sure I was all set and happy, she just disappeared behind the desk doors saying someone would take care of us. The cut is fine, but not my favorite. And finally it isn't fun to leave what is supposed to be a relaxing experience in a disgruntled mood.

Disorganized booking and less than average treatment. I have gone to Nakai many times over the years and have been disappointed the last few times. The one thing they do well and consistently is pedicures but the rest leaves a lot to be desired. I am sending a separate note to the owner with experience details and suggestions for improvement. I received a gift card and products for Christmas otherwise would not have gone based on my previous experience in the last 2 years as staff turnover always resulted in my finding someone I liked but they never seemed to stay. Nakai does not offer online booking and response times to emails is spotty. I had 6 calls to finally getting a booking and was told NO on multiple requests over and over only to find out some of what I wanted to do was possible and my appointment times changed 3 times. The girl answering the phones did not know how long treatments took, which treatments could or couldn't be combined (no explanation as to why) and answered NO or YOU CAN'T immediately before even reading the menu. After getting there I had to wait 30 minutes (I was 15 minutes early for my appointment as you should be and the girl was running 15 minutes late). The overall treatment was disappointing - was to last 2 hours with the $60/30 minute add on and we were done in less than 90 minutes. The pedicure after was fine. I know it is Saint John so we are not at the forefront of modernization but I have been to spas all over the world and while this could be considered "nice" for Saint John not sure they would be in business in a large city. My husband spent over $400 and have to say I am pretty disappointed. What was meant to be a very relaxing day out of a very hectic life was a stressful fiasco. I would look for some place else to unwind or just go for the pedicure and don''t invest in the rest. Just to note - business hasn't bothered to respond or acknowledge review but sent me their "we miss you" newsletter. I asked to be removed from their mailing list and told them that I hadn't heard from their manager and wouldn't be spending any more money there and they replied "That sounds great. Thanks" - The worst customer service EVER. Try The Spa in Rothesay - I hear it is amazing and all my co-workers go there and avoid Nakai like the plague.

I absolutely love this place. The people are so friendly and welcoming and the service has always left me wanting more And the spa is absolutely beautiful and so comfortable! I am always extremely relaxed and can't wait to go back for more!

Used to really like this place but not enough to stop myself from trying other places. I've noticed it's changed a lot recently and not for the better. The hairstylist that I originally had was so sweet but left when they were having huge turnovers, was replaced with someone who I haven't been impressed by. I had my hair dyed previously in Fredericton and was getting the same colour dyed over it so should have been no issue---black, plain and simple. Even with the somewhat dim lights and not having my glasses, I could immediately tell that the dye was minimalistic and showed the entire band of roots that were only a couple of levels darker, FAR from black. The woman seemed skeptical of me continuing to dye my hair black and was insistent on using a dark brown instead despite me being quite clear, which I am suspicious that she may have done just that instead of what I actually wanted. Either way, the dye almost completely faded in a week whereas the previous dye still remains strong as ever to this day. I'm a quiet person and understand everyone has bad days, but this was flat out denial and I had to be firm in letting her know I was disappointed. She said that it would take numerous sessions to make my hair black.....I'm no expert, but I've had my hair turn black in one session before with the proof right there on my head. Since then, I've tried to get an appointment with someone else since I prefer going to one place but the ladies on the phone are quite rude and one even hung up on me! It's a shame, this place used to be great but has felt more and more unwelcoming. You walk in and feel like you're interrupting someone's important conversation and being judged. Tl;dr Go to first choice haircutters if you want the same services at four times the price.

Best spa setting in SJ. Luxury atmosphere, lovely waiting area with relaxing aquarium and alcoholic beverages. RMTs are personable and do a great job. The ambiance is so much better than other basic massage places that feel more like a cafeteria bare-bones vibe. They also offer to retouch your makeup gratis after your service. Fantastic! The only con I will state is that once when I went, it was extremely noisy. It was only me , and a gaggle of women there for manicures. They didn’t seem to care or respect the vibe and tranquility of a spa, and were loud and annoying. However, thankfully once we got into the massage room, the relaxing music drowned out the riff raff. Perhaps because it was a weekend evening?

I've had other massages at other establishment but this exceeded my expectation. My massage therapist was Darlene. Darlene was knowledgeable, professional, gave me the best massage ever but after we were done she gave me a few exercises to help with pain control and strenghtening. Invited me to stay and sit in the lounge chair with a blanket and sip on an organic tea.... taking your time and relax after a massge is what you need. Exceptional!! ❤

Very disappointed about the service. My wife and her friend went there last weekend to do the hair cut and colour. My wife's friend was told that the colour may not be the same as the colour book as her hair was too dark. BUT the result was there was NO change on the hair colour. My wife talked to the store after, and requested to either refund the portion for the hair colour or re-do the work. The answer from the store was they discounted the service by $10 already. Such a "GREAT" discount! We never heard anything back after the supervisor promised to talk to the owner. WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS STORE AND TELL ALL THE FRIENDS NOT TO GO TO THIS STORE!!! Saint John is such a small town and we can't believe that a local store treated the customer like that.

Nakai is a place to relax and be indulged. I particularly love going there for a massage. The therapists are highly skilled and make sure I leave feeling better with some tips on what exercises I can do to help relieve trigger points.

I spent an afternoon getting my dreadlocks installed by Kya and it was a wonderful experience. Kya is a master of her craft and one of the few people in the province who can install dreadlocks properly. I would highly recommend her to anyone as she is an absolute professional and made me feel right at home throughout the entire time we were together. She truly goes above and beyond as she wants to stay updated on the state of your dreads to ensure they maintain their quality. My dreads are back thanks to Kya and I couldn’t be happier.

The new lady on the desk is horrible, she is not welcoming, friendly or even looks like she enjoys working there. I have always had great services and no issues but your new hire is rude and unprofessional. The other three lady's are always pleasant and always great to see. They booked my appointment on the wrong date and then they were completely unapologetic for the mishap and did not try to compensate me for the mistake regardless of having email proof of me booking for the specific date. As well no blame was taken and it was pushed aside as was I. Would not recommend to anyone who does not want their time wasted.
