My sisters and I planned a getaway for one night and selected the Inverary Resort based on location and the spectacular scenery. We were also interested in a place that offered a spa package.
The Resort itself was a beautiful place to stay. Our room was clean, comfortable, and conveniently located above the pool area and spa. We enjoyed paddleboarding on the lake and an incredible meal at the Lakeside restaurant. Our server even picked fresh mint to add to our mojitos! Service was excellent, views from the deck were second to none.
Things went awry with our spa experience, unfortunately. For starters, I had difficulty booking an appointment because it took staff 3 days to return my call despite the 2 voice messages I left. Spa service hours were not available on their website, so I took a gamble by booking a spa package for a Sunday night stay. As (bad) luck would have it, the spa was not open on those days. I was very pleasantly surprised and grateful when the staff person I spoke with offered to come in on Monday for facials and pedicures. Unfortunately, during the booking process it seems that some errors were made. We were hoping for 3 facials and 2 pedicures, but somehow one of the facials was left out of our appointment times. This created quite a hullabaloo halfway through our visit, as the 2 staff people went around the corner and had a hushed conversation about how to deal with the error. It was awkward. We would have been fine to leave it, but they managed to make time in their schedule to accommodate my sister's facial. They also upgraded my facial to the "ultimate facial", which was very good of them.
It seemed that all had ended on a reasonably positive note until I went to pay my bill at the front desk. I sensed that I had been overcharged at the spa but the printer at reception wasn't working, so I wasn't offered a detailed invoice. Instead it was supposed to be emailed to me. It wasn't. I called to request the email again, still nothing. Eventually, I went back to reception to sort it out. I could see that I had been overcharged by $20 for one service AND had been charged HST twice for an additional $25. One of the spa staff admitted he had "punched in the wrong number" while sending off my bill to reception staff, but this was not corrected prior to me paying for it. I don't feel confident that it was ever properly communicated to the person at the front desk, and I wonder whether a little "skimming off the top" might have been at play.
Neither the front desk staff nor the esthetician himself could explain or assist when I insisted that the bill was wrong. It ended with a whole group of us standing in the reception area at an impasse. I had to leave to be home in time for another engagement. It took 2 additional days of subsequent emails and phone calls for resort management to acknowledge and correct the error. I'm grateful that they did, but disappointed it took such effort on my part. It left a bad taste in my mouth that these "mathematical errors" on the part of the spa were so obvious and, if I may say, felt rather suspicious. I would encourage visitors to the spa to check their bill very carefully prior to payment, especially if you are having the service billed to your room.
