Here you will be able to see the information of real people like you who used the products and services of Hillside Shopping Centre (Mall) around Oak Bay area (Canada).
As of day the business receives a rating of 4.1 out of 5 and the score has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is quite high, and it is founded on a very high number of scores, so we may think that the rating is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to give their feddback when they are satisfied, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to write scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Mall is included in the category of Shopping mall.
Actually I go there now because of Sunshine Records and BC Shaver. And Marshalls ....nothing wrong with rolling the dice there...
I love the hobby shop, book store, and the Spencer's
It's not the same anymore, there used to be an abundance of quaint local businesses, now it's mostly large chains. The addition of the shaver shop to the mall has been wonderful however!!!
I visited Bolen Books inside the Hillside Shopping Center on the 23rd of November at 9:10AM to buy my children's Christmas presents. Opening time was 9:30AM, and I walked around the food court for a minute. I found out that A&W was offering a $1 coffee, so I ordered a cup of coffee at the counter. I said "Can I ask for a $1 coffee?" and the cashier asked "small? regular?". I replied "Regular black, please". She said "it's $1.05" and I handed her a $5 bill. But the change she gave me was $1.95, not $3.95. She turned around and was making the coffee, and as soon as she handed me the coffee, I showed her the change in my hand and said the amount was not correct. She said that she doesn't have any change right now, and she told me to wait to give me the change when she gets it from the next guest. I was bewildered and embarrassed, but the sudden situation kinda forced me to wait. The next customer placed an order and paid by his card. I took photos of my coffee and change with my iPhone just in case. But as soon as she saw me taking pictures, she said she just got the change and gave me $2. The next customer paid with a card a second ago, how did she get cash change? I was very dumbfounded and angry, but there were other customers in a long line and I didn't want to start an argument so early in the morning, so I just sat in the food court and waited and entered the bookstore. I don't know if she tried to deceive me because I look stupid and am an immigrant who doesn't speak English well, but I hope she doesn't do that in the future. So humiliated and disappointed!!
Fairly good selection of stores. Handy to get there.
One of the better malls in the area. Fairly large parking lot. A wide variety of fast food in the food court, Starbucks and Tim’s in one stop.
I like the selection of shops here and the food court is varied and always clean. I applaud the decision to not allow pets in the Mall after March 1, 2020 as it is distracting for legitimate registered service dogs. Owners of pets did not always follow the rules set out by the administration staff so to restrict pets now is the right decision. Thank you!
Large, light, clean and airy shopping center with ample parking. Good safety measures have been put in place in the food court and shops. The shop vacancy rate is high at this mall but when the economy eventually improves and more stores are in operation this will be a five star mall.
A decent food court for a family where some may want burgers (A&W and Johnny Rockets), a Timmy sandwich, a Subway sub, Vietsub (Saigon), Greek (Opa), Thai, fries, sushi, etc. As for shops, love this Canadian Tire, the SportsChek, and BC Shaver & Hobby. So why are they ruining this balance of big box, franchises and local independents? Walmart will unfortunately only hurt this mall. Sad to think the massive former Sears on the Northside of the mall could have been our very own Cabelas for the greater Victoria area. I wonder what will be left of Hillside by 2030?
Hillside is a great mall with many different types of stores, from groceries and the food court to sports and hobbies Hillside mall has lots to offer! :-) ------------ just to let you know, the Dollerstore is closing at Hillside mall-----------
We love this mall! Clean, quiet, with great stores to 'window shop' and great staff at each ???? Grab a coffee at the food court and walk around. The Covid issue is clearly sign-ed at each door. We love the 'as-seen-on-tv' and Michael Hill stores! Also having Canadian Tire, Thrifty's, and Bolen Books make this the 'go-to' mall of Victoria. ???? ????????????
Traveled all the way from Pender Island on Wednesday with the verbal assurance given by phone that I could order a product, in person, at Sport Chek. The sales clerk had never heard of the product and could not find it on the store's website. I had time contraint to get back to the ferry terminal, and was kept waiting so long that I only barely made ut on time. Overall, I am NOT impressed that Sport Chek advertises a product they don't actually have, and never heard of, after instructing us on the phone that if we show up in person to order it, we can have free delivery. Four thumbs down.
Nice architecture, but sparse seating in main thoroughfares. Food court is ok, with the curry being the best tasting option in my opinion. The decor inside isn't totally horrible but I feel like they were putting new accessories over 1980's style. I like the totem pole near one entrance.
Nice, bright and wide corridors. This mall has everything from groceries, clothing, sporting goods to srvices. Most importantly Purdy's Chocolates.
Best mall in the Greater Victoria Area because of the food court but could use a more diverse selection of stores.
The mall is alright with a lot of little boutique and specialty shops. Confusing layout and always seems to be under construction.
My family is new to Victoria and was extremely excited to find a dog friendly mall that has all the stores we enjoy. Our family rarely goes to malls so I'm sure unless the mall tries a little bit harder to work through the few issues, my family will go back to rarely going to malls as of March 1st.
Love this mall, I could easily spend several hours in the book store alone. Great selection for clothing and house hold items. The newly constructed portions are still being worked on but they certainly don't detract from the shipping experience of hhis mall.
This place has an awesome washroom! And I know you're not supposed to, and maybe I'm just an evil person, I do enjoy using the wheelchair toilet stall! It's like this huge room, tonnes of space, and it has its own private sink!
Don't come here often but since the Renos it looks great. Food court is twice the size as it used to be with so many options.
Food court has a good selection, shops are accommodating as long as you have a mask and if you don’t, most places offer you one for free. It was strange shopping with the mall so empty but good to get done what I needed without the line ups.
Hillside Mall is by far one of the best malls in the Greater Victoria area. The mall has store for every age demographic: children's clothes, all the way to sportive wear. One of the perks of shopping at Hillside are that there a few box mart style stores: Canadian Tire (the largest on the Vancouver Island), BC Liquor, Shopper's Drug Mart, Marshall's and Sport check. Let's not forget Bolen books, they have an amazing selection of books fit for everyone!
Gigantic sprawl of shops. Nice food court with tons of choices. Parking is a tough go. Dazzling ceiling decor in food court
Mall is good, parking lot needs work
A nightmare of a mall, always busy inside and out. Half decent food court, liquor store and Starbucks. Bolen Books is a plus. Gosh I just hate malls.
Bolen's Bookstore, among many other deliciously wonderful shops, makes this a great place to go for all your Christmas shopping☑️
updates made Hillside feel like a much nicer mall. bright and airy, feels very classy. parking is almost always completely packed, especially in the south side parking lots. Food court is great with lots of seating and great selection, and really nice bathrooms throughout. Great shopping, especially for shoes and women's clothes, as well as one of the best book stores on the island. hillside has always been a good mall, now it is great. One more thing, for those who appreciate eco conscious places, the food court does not have any garbage cans. the mall staff takes every tray and personally sorts the contents into organics, recycling and waste, so it is done properly. I appreciate this!
Liked it MORE when car charges were free. Lol
Nice mall with a good variety of stores and restaurants.
Haven't shopped here for ages. Entered thru main entrance. Straight ahead at start of retail is the directory/map. Great bargains at Bentley, stocked up on card cases, snap top boxes for lip gloss, coins, etc. Colorful designs on surface.
The best shopping centre on the side of a hill in town.
I get lost every time but this mall is always clean. People are friendly. Just wish they had a dolleraram and a bosley pet store
I commend the staff in the food court who are right on top of keeping the tables cleaned. Wonderful????
Big mall compare one in kelowna where I come from. Nice choices and wide alley which can rest anywhere ????. Good experience ????
Campbell River doesn't have a mall because we are not cool anymore so I have to drive here. Thankfully even though I'm not cool enough to live in a town with a mall I own a car, the walk would be way too long, I don't suggest it, unless it's a Tiger King emergency and you really need a new outfit and are desperate. The drive is 45 min. Don't walk.
Visited Bali at their new location inside the mall. Looks great, more room and real changing rooms now, as always love the clothes. Suzanne's another of my favourites had some great sale items and I couldn't resist and Ricki's also had some good deals. Tried the new bowl at Edo Japanese fast food in the food cart, it was a nice change, will definitely order again.
Has all amenities that you need and very friendly and helpful staff in each store I visited!
CoVid has closed off all of the sitting areas except outside.. aside from this, the Mall is a decent mix of shops. Walmart should be a welcome addition.
Is all re open! very clean premises, nicest food court in town because it's high wood ceilings and lots of glass walls bringing natural light.. Lots of parking and variety of shopping options.
A lovely mall, especially after the renovations they did a couple years ago! Plenty of plus size fashion stores, a dollar store, grocery, pharmacy, a bookstore, and many other things to boot! Best of all, everything is totally wheelchair accessible.
Nice mall, but always very busy.
Nothing special no difference from other malls in Victoria
I'm not a Mall Shopper, but there's a Jeweller in there where my Wife and I purchased our Wedding Rings. The Canadian Tire is Great! And it's cool that Walmart will be opening there soon! No need to drive out to Uptown! Looking Forward to it!
This is my favourite mall in Victoria. Food court is very open and bright with natural lighting. Never feels too crowded unlike Mayfair. Good selection of stores. Guests services is useful with their stroller rental. Their Ranger kids program is a nice bonus!
Got a little bit of everything. Great mall.
Terrific shopping location with ample parking and a variety of stores. Apart from numerous stares there is a Thrifty Foods, a new 2 level Canadian Tire, Sear's and sports stores.
Great mall with plenty of shops and large food court. Cool exhibits on the mall floors often, very well kept and safe location. Someone could easily spend the entire day browsing at this mall, it's very nice. Parking usually isn't too bad. Food court has quite a few nice options of food. Highly recommend browsing at Bolen's books, amazing store.
The remodeling at this mall has created some great lighting. There's a decent variety of stores. The food court has some great options for a quick bite to eat. Banking, dentists and a full service grocery store round out a great mall.
I went to the Victoria global village store and purchased beautiful hand made winter mitts, im supporting women entrepreneurs in a third world country it's a better use of my money . Walmart and Amazon don't need my money . Support local, shop small buisness over big box stores
They seem to have pretty much everything you need at this mall.
The Hillside Shopping Centre's Food Court is open, with outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered. The seating areas are cleaned and disinfected between visitors. It is very visible, provided reassurance to COVID concerns. A Walmart Supercenter will open soon, in the old Sears location. Some storefronts are empty. There are two banks located in the mall (CIBC and Scotiabank). There's also Canadian Tire, Thrifty Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Marshalls. There is a huge parking lot plus numerous transit options. I visited at 11:00a on a Wednesday and it was quite busy.
A very large space still misused due to not filling its space before building extra space for the mall so it looks oddly bare inside. Of course the plague doesn't help much either.
Nice, open space. Clean and well maintained.
This mall has always been so so in that there isn't a lot to look at in the way of exciting stores, but it has some practical ones that one needs every once in a while. Fancy new renovations may look nice but haven't made the mall that much better. It's busy, parking is usually available.
Now this is how a mall should look. So clean and tidy. Everyone whom I came in contact with was friendly.
A great mall, the majority of apparel stores offer quality products with great prices. Highly superior than the over-rated Mayfair Mall ☕
It's so big now (it's been a long time since I wandered the interior of the mall)! There is a large number of vacancies in one part of the mall, but that isn't surprising given the impact of the pandemic on small- and medium-sized businesses. It 's also very nice, with wide halls (important for my power wheelchair) and well-lit. I enjoyed the visit immensely and spent way too much money. I wish health, safety and happiness to all. Have a great day/week/year! ????????????????
It's a mall. All of the things you expect to see in a mall are probably here. Recent Reno's leave all the hallways wide enough to feel more spacious than necessary. Food court is wide and open. Lots of shops. I hate malls on general principle though so don't take this as vicious condemnation. At least you don't have to go outside to leave one store and enter another.
Friendly atmosphere, not too crowded. Typical food court options. Conspicuous number of shuttered shops
Varied options. Good place for a walk or to grab a bite. Beautiful architecture.
Never shop at spencers. The worst customer service ever. I came in here today with my four-year-old daughter to purchase some earrings I was greeted by a person at the door asking me if I needed help and then I said no I just walked in I'm just gonna take a look around and then she was like whatever and walked away rudely once I kind of found what I was looking for I asked for help then the person that was rude to me in the beginning came to help us. My kid was standing in front of me as we were looking in the show case and the girl budge in front and did not say excuse me and in the process almost knocked over my kiddo. She did not even say sorry either. At this time I'm thrown back by this worker and wonder how did she even get hired here with her unprofessionalism. We went to pay at the desk for the earrings and which I had some American money around the house I wanted to use and they said we will not except that. I told her it's legal and it's money you can not refuse the method I choose to use. Then she told me to use another method or to get out of the store because they were to busy but at the time I was the only one in the store. So I use d another method of payment just to get out of there. After we left even my daughter was like why were they so mean to me and you. Honestly I told her it's because there bully's and don't know how to treat people. My kid even said to me I don't ever wanna come back here. Same kiddo that was the worst customer service I have ever had. Both girls working there need to be fired and friendly people need to be hired.
My local mall and one of my favourite places to shop. Always something to do here whether it's eating, wandering aimlessly, shopping for clothes or picking up tools this is the place to be.
FYI: Mall is not dog friendly. Service dogs only. Canadian Tire is the only store which allows dogs.
Hillside is nice little mall anchored by Marshals and Sport Check. Good variety of stores, mall feels new and modern. Couple more stores are coming soon as well. Food court is great, roomy and has good variety. There are both Tim’s and Starbucks and few food court staples such as Edo, Taco Time, etc. There is also kids indoor playground. Very good family place
Hillside Mall has been a staple of the Victoria retail community for many, many years. I was a regular patron during my University days in the late 80s and early 90s, and continued to visit during our years living in Shawnigan Lake. Hillside has been through numerous changes and upgrades over the years, each one effective adapting to the needs of the Victoria shopping community. We moved back to Victoria in July of 2018, after 14 years in Ottawa, and were pleased to see that Hillside Mall has maintained its high standards. The "new" Food Court is wonderful, and the Canadian Tire is the best in the city.
I'm amazed at the number of people in this mall during a pandemic. They should provide parking for mobile pickup outside food court
Was better when there was still a pet-store. Set it apart form other malls. The foodcourt is huge but post reno all the features that helped muffle sound are totally absent. Plus if you are mobility impaired and it hurts to walk it can be a long trip to the one ramp. For the size of the space that's really wrong. It 's hard to feel I have less choice if I don't want to go the extra distance to use the bit that's down a partial level. A sensory nightmare that's hard to access makes how long I spend at the mall way down as I can't recharge in the food court and carry on. A positive - especially in summer is being dog friendly. Mine is very social and hates to be left at home. That had meant the person I might need to help me has had to stay with him and still does other places. My dog is important enough that it bumps Hillside up to a 3 . There was a time it was a 5 though. Management should consider people choose where to shop based on what's different . The constant parade of clothing retailers moving in and going belly up we can see anywhere.
It's recently gone through a renovation, which made it much more spacious, brighter, and modern. The food court has gotten larger, and the renovated washrooms are gorgeous. (I only know the men's, so I assume the women's are the same.) (Yes, I'm aware this is probably the only review the is fawning over washrooms.) There's tons of variety. It's probably the mall with the most shop variety in Victoria. (Take it with a tablespoon of salt, since I did not nor intend to conduct a study on it.) You can pretty much find what you need here. I'm not that type that likes to often walk in malls, but this one is quite nice. I also love that it has a large book store - Bolen Books. Also, it has free wifi from both Shaw and Telus, which is a huge plus. (Best mall wifi.)
Food court is frustrating as half the people follow the new protocols in place and the other half doesn't. Would be nice if they either pushed for it to be the new way or go back to how it was so people can't budge. Ignorant people that are oblivious to lines.
Overall really good place to shop. Not too impressed about a Walmart being put tight there. You can kiss Canadian Tire and Thirties goodbye. Is Hillside owned by Canadians or US? That would have actually been a good spot for housing.
This spot is a little under whelming since Sears closed. Parking is still good and there are some fantastic privately owned shops here. Worth a look.
A wide range of reasonably priced stores including B.C. Shaver one of the best modelling stores on Vancouver Island. The food court is large with more selection than most. I don't have much money to spend and Hillside helps me stretch my dollars. It is also well set up to accommodate people with physical challenges.
Went to Thrifty's for sushi but I was too early
Went their for dim sum it was really good
Hillside always seemed like a unique and friendly place because I could bring my little dog shopping with me, and that was fun. It was nice to include him in my activities and he loved going to the mall. That is was set it apart from other malls. But now that they are changing their dog-friendly policy, I will have no real reason to visit this mall. The Canadian Tire and Marshall's are really the only stores that you can't find nearby, and the addition of a wal-mart will turn this mall into another generic shopping center like the others.
Only ran in for a bite at Food Fair prior to a nearby appointment. Don't even know what other stores are in there!
Always nice drop in to Hillside. It is kept clean it is nice and bright. Pleasant staff in all the stores I entered. Good sales on this weekend too. I do miss Sears though. Too bad about that iconic store. Hope something goes in soon to the empty space
Nice layout and less crowded than Mayfair. Also has one of the best bookstores going. Bc shaver is great for any hobby needs. Decent mall.
Close and convenient for a number of shopping stops. From groceries to hardware, books and gardening supplies it's an easy one stop mall. Parking is free and always available.
Good mall, not very busy but once the Walmart opens up have fun trying to find parking.
Love the stores at this shopping centre. Variety is exceptional. Bolen Books, numerous clothing stores, Canadian Tire right there, a great Dood court, and of course Kernels!
This mall has come along way back from my first time at the mall in 1995. I still enjoy this mall great upgrade and a Walmart coming soon. Everything thing you need all at one location
Fun mall with a good variety of shopping experiences. I especially enjoy Bolen books and Marshalls. The Canadian tire and food court options are good too
Lots of free parking, good food court. Nice having Thrifty Foods and Canadian Tire attached.
Here for 3 hours...plugged in but didn't get a single kilometre of charge. Go elsewhere...show them tokenism isn't good business. Rating should be -3.
I really enjoy going to Hillside Shopping Center. There's so many stores there to choose from. The parking is easy and there's a parking lot that surrounds the building. Pretty sure everything is wheelchair accessible. Oh and they have a food court there with many options. Also the bathrooms are easily accessible and very clean.
Shopping center in the eastern part of Victoria that serves Saanich and Oak Bay. Carries most of the stores that would be expected. A Canadian Tire store occupies what was one of the Target locations. A Marshall's store and BC Liquor Store can be found as well. Main store of interest would be Bolan Books. It's a locally owned store with a wide variety of books.
Nice big mall. Large food court. A lot of stores shuffling in and out past few years. Great book store. New location for BC Shavers and Hobbies.
Hillside has big box stores such as Home Depot and Canadian Tire. Also telecomm kiosks. It has modernized the mall and I like the really wide, spacious and bright aisles in the big stores!
I always try to get to this part of town to go to Canadian Tire, best one around. Bella Moda hair is great as well. The girls there know how to properly cut hair
They have a nice variety of stores. It has a less stressed fast pace vibe than the downtown mall but they have less clothes there for young people. The food court is really nice and has been expanded.
Had a great time looking in the stores.
Had a great time looking in the stores.
Bc shaver hobbies is great. ????
Excellent ! Very clean , good covid measures. As my partner has sight issues , I believe the markings on the floor and within shops , should be more clear and consistent between shops ( same arrows , including making them brighter) small changes , but a huge difference.
It's a mall with lots of shops. Pleasant surroundings. Family standard decor. Food court is large for this mall. Great book store on one end of the food court that is local to Victoria. Has large Canadian Tire store at another end. Has a small Thrifty food store as well. Parking lot can be confusing with a few one way lanes. Lots of stop signs in parking lot and watch out for pedestrians crossing and not looking. Has a huge former Sears store at one end of the mall that is still empty.
Clean, well maintained property, with friendly staff and security guards. Close to home for me and enjoy visiting for the exercise. A lot of vacant spaces still left since the upgrade a few years ago. Good variety in the food court. Overall a well run shopping center with good food but limited store fronts. With all that said though. Its still a great place to do some shopping and hangout on a rainy day.
best place to buy clothes for yourself and family.
Wide open and merchants practicing good covid protocols
The new stores are great. The mall is clean, has lots of stores. The food fair has lots of cool options and is always very clean. The parking lot is kind of annoying now that you can't cut through SEARS so hopefully they fill that spot soon :)
A good selection of stores. Once the Walmart opens it will be a one stop shop!
