This Mall corresponds to the category of Shopping mall.
Great food court, they should tear down everything here except that and turn the rest into affordable housing
Good mix of general and boutique retail. Walked through centre court today (Good Friday) and was accosted and bullied by a security guard about loitering. It amazes me that a business whos press coverage has been less than stellar when it comes to its security policies and how it treats people, continues to act the way it does. Sure it's Good Friday, but to accost and bully people who are waiting for a bus, or just coming in out of the cold. I live in the community and just last week my partner and I bought a new cell phone from Koodo, spent 100$ on 2 blankets from a main floor kiosk, purchased a cell phone case from Staples, spend 75$ at Shoppers Drug Mart, and utilized the Service Canada location. This is in addition to several visits to Tim Hortons and Starbucks, plus a lunch in the food court. After today's experience, I will be seriously reevaluating my use of the mall and it's businesses. I am very disappointed!
Very nice security lots of fast foods to choose from staff very friendly but the natives are annoying can't stand outside and vape thinking I have a smoke and have to come and bug me and won't leave me alone not good to stand outside and wait for a bus
Face masks required. Not packed, calm atmosphere. Visited on a Monday, late afternoon.
Saw a girl get groped by a stranger in front of security and they didn't do anything. What a nice place.
Bus connections are great as well as the walkway system to other city locations. Food court is popular and busy.
Bathroom dirty and people use drugs there
There are a couple of decent stores in here, but this mall isn't much of a draw. Unless you're just picking up something specific quickly, going to polo park is a better option even with the extra travel time.
Got a great deal at Shoe Warehouse! Excellent service.
Not much in terms of shops there that aren't offered elsewhere. Once the business crowd leaves, the demographic is quite different.
Mall looks very empty but there are some great deals through out this mall
I've always liked spending time at Porter's place today was no different wasn't very crowded and the stores I visited were very helpful
Pity most of the store are closes and the neighborrow not really attractive
Portage Place mall is /was a decent mall with lots of nice shops similar to Winnipeg Square. Winnipeg Square has flourished while Portage Place mall has suffered closure and turnover of stores. One of the main reasons I don't go there very often is because I don't feel safe. There are gangs of people hanging out throughout the main floor entrances and outside. Openly drinking, fighting and selling drugs and stolen clothes which I've personally witnessed and reported. Security does their best but the sheer volume appears overwhelming for them. To the new owners...if you want shops to succeed and remain paying tenants you need to address all the people hanging around not shopping who are scaring away real customers.
I usually pass through the mall to get from parking to either the University or Bell MTS, and each time it feels as though the mall is straight from the 80s or 90s. The elevators always feel clunky, the stairs seem like a movie set from a cop movie, and the decor is that old combination of green and pink. The stores look absolutely fine, it's just the building itself that looks in need of a renovation to make it look a bit more modern.
All these stores can be found in better areas. Just beware of the crazies ( people in deep meth induced psychosises ).
Not very accessible but great to be out of the rain
It's Portage place, what else is there to say other then " No I do not have a extra smoke, o I do t have any spare change and true change comes from within
Unfortunately this shopping center which was partially owned by the city of Winnipeg has been sold to a private business person. So I don't know what to expect from this location in the future. It is located in the city of Winnipeg downtown district so parking is of course difficult. There are plenty of parking structures but you do end up paying a premium price to park downtown. There are plenty of stores located in this mall there is even a movie theater. At one time there was an IMAX theater but I'm not sure if that's still there.
Locating downtown of Winnipeg which is very convenient place for all traveller..the place inside is really beautiful but what i didn't like is the brands..i couldn't recognize any of them.
It seems like a lot of retail spaces are vacant and have been for a while. Food court is decent.
Horrible place. Had to kill time before hockey game. Impaired people stumbling around all over. A disabled person beside me had a drunk walk up and take his food. They do have a couple places to get coffee or a quick meal
Food is always good and love ppl watching lol
The businesses seem to be overpriced for the type of people around there. The staff that work there are rude and unhelpful.
It’s a nice shopping mall with its own food court with all kinds of foods from shawarma to Indian food. We tried iced cafe latte from Starbucks . We took a stroll all the shops inside. You can find Dollarama, Ardene, shoppers drugmart and many more . Overall a nice place .
Nice place to shop and look for other stuff you need. Place great to meet people
Multiple stores to shop at one place. Remember only portage avenue side doors are open for entry and exit dure to covid 19. Please plan accordingly to park.
Multiple stores to shop at one place. Remember only portage avenue side doors are open for entry and exit dure to covid 19. Please plan accordingly to park.
Still has a few good stores and isn't bad for a lunch hour Shop- but not the place to head on an evening or weekend uses you had to
Good place for just about everything
Has only the bare essentials. I suppose it's good if you're downtown and need something (drugs, office supplies, a quick change of clothes) but it feels kind of janky overall. I wouldn't choose this as a place to hang out and spend a lot of time at.
Great people working, food deals, good people...need to be patient, considerate, & respectful and you'll be fine!
Once you start to see people smoking crack from a can, stop !!! that's probably portage place mall. Winnipeg, such a beautiful place
DEAD..........needs revamping ...I fear it will need more than the city can give it ....and probably not a wise investment for our dear city's downtown after 5 pm is a GHOST TOWN
Alot of gangs walking around ...people come up to you asking if your lookong to buy pills of all kinds otherwise has alot to offer for shopping ...
I avoid this place whenever possible. There's frequent drama with the regulars, and I feel badly for the mall security.
Went to service canada, was a line up however the guys there were very helpful, followed covid guidelines
Lost all it competative shops. Hope the revamp happens soon. Polo seems better for shopping needs
It's really nice place for buy everything. I love to shop here. Every store has different offer but I can say that You will defiantly find cheapest things here. At least check one time here before buy things anywhere else.
A lot of stores and it is connected via skywalks to the MTS Center and a few places which makes it a good spot to walk around in either the hot summer or very cold winter.
Portage Place is not bad, but it's not good either. It's main issue is that it's not just old, it's also dated. The shops you'll find in there also seem to mostly be corner store type of shops, which makes it worse. The whole feeling of the place is not welcoming and it doesn't really encourage you to stay and spend money. Part of it is the building itself, and part of it is the type of businesses there; it's hard to articulate but you don't get the same feeling when you walk into Polo Park, for example. I would just avoid it. If you're willing to go out of your way a bit, you can get everything you want at one of the other malls in the city, and you'll get a nicer experience.
This mall just doesn't compare with others in the city. Looking more and more run down. Doesn't have the best store selection and parking is difficult unless you know what you're buying something
No reason to visit this place. It's has a shoppers drug mart and a food court. Just go to Polo Park.
Went to use the bathrooms with my kid, and had to run over to the YMCA. All the bathrooms were filthy; toilet paper was everywhere and many of the toilets were plugged or had urine on the seats. Not a family friendly place whatsoever and a real disappointment if the hope is to bring more people downtown.
Not a pleasant place to be. Ended up getting into a fight with a crazy lady with a face tattoo about escalator ettiquette while trying to get to Shoppers to buy some baby shampoo bottles for my trip and I was in the area. It gets 1 star, because the Oriental gift store, despite the merch being a bit dated, is actually pretty nice. Other than that, I hate it and I wish I was joking about the crazy escalator lady!
My daughter got accused of stealing because they found a wrapper on the floor that wasn’t even hers
Food court felt dirty, 3rd floor elevator on east side had a beer can in a planter, obviously a problem considering the plant was dying.
Clean. Busy. Good selection of stores. Nice food court.
The dirt mall. A great place for transients to get out of the cold. Pretty decent food court and a pretty lousy compliment of stores.
Not going to lie, this place is pretty run down.. lots of weirdos around since it's right downtown. I would suggest going to Polo park about 15 mins west of here.
A good mall to definitely check out... if you can get past all those people begging for cigarettes or bus change. Why they don't have a security outside in the warmer weather months? The shops are great... so when you get inside the mall you've made it & are safe. They do have security patrolling the mall constantly. Check it out. I wouldn't take my car there... as there's no much parking available during the days(other businesses and individuals the work downtown usually snag those first) I suggest parking further away & just walking or hopping on a bus.
My favorite mall. Best indoor water fountain in Winnipeg. The old clock is from City Hall. Good store sells jerseys on second floor. Art store is pretty cool. Food court is still going strong. Good wallets at Bentleys. I miss the Burger King next to the Y.
Most dangerous mall I've been to. Lots of shoplifters, thieves, and pickpockets, and security is pretty much useless. Stay alert and watch your things.
Walking thru is always interesting . I go to a kiosk there that sells silver jewelery i REALLY like
Cleanliness not this place forte. Dubious individuals hanging around in and outside the mall.
Some good places to shop for clothing or accessories that aren't available at other malls. But depending on what time of day you go you'll either have more run-ins with questionable people.
Great ambience. Good staff
There is a future here but not will the company that wants to buy it.
Don't go here under any circumstances and go to literally any other mall. There's nothing unique here and you'll get consistently bothered by some combination of homeless, drug dealers or drunks. Walking in here feels like a safety hazard at all hours.
Good mall if you need to stop by and grab something. Not as scary as it’s made out to be.
This mall has become incredibly dirty, sketchy and unsafe. When I first moved to the city more than 20 years ago, the mall was on the more humble side, not as fancy as St. Vital or Polo Park. But it had a certain charm, it was easy to get to, with decent stores, and a movie theatre. Now there are a LOT of vacant spaces, the stores that remain are not very interesting and there is no movie theatre. The mall has deteriorated immensely and is now regularly filled with drunk people. It is always grubby looking and not well maintained. The bus stops around that mall are also incredibly unsafe after dark.
Somewhat sparse mall. Rough neighborhood full of beggers. Not recommended. Oh and paid parking to boot. I've never seen such an unattractive mall that actively pushes away customers with paid parking. I was there for 3 hours, paid $7 in parking and found nothing to buy. But I got asked for money 3 times.
It's reallly kind of unfortunate that such a nice, architecturally speaking, shopping center has such a notoriously bad reputation for attracting crime and vagrancy. Store selection is rather lacking. I sometimes go there for quick purchases when I'm walking through the area. My advice: don't stick around too long. It's common to see security responding to incidents of various types there, so I wouldn't call it a family friendly place either. Again, rather unfortunate, considering it has such potential to be a very attractive downtown landmark
No where I shop with those deals
One of the main shopping centre in Winnipeg. It is diverse as you can find most of the products and services. Some includes but are not limited to staples, Dollarama, restaurant, fast food chain and even Service Canada's office
Nice mall. It was quite difficult locating the food court. That wasn't good. If you ask me. It should have been more obvious.
No changes at all food court over crowded , lots of sketching people in the front door by Tim Horton and in the back door. Loitering, horsing around, asking for changing , dealing, molesting people, etc.
Really dislike this mall. Really lacks quality retailers. Do like the piano in the center court though.
Great mall I love this place I've spent many many days hanging out there when I was a teenager throughout the summer months
BECAUSE THE ROGERS IS THERE VERY GOOD,CUSTOMER SERVICE ,VERY CONVENIENT FOR MY LOCATION, BECAUSE I AM A SENIOR!
I really only go there if I absolutely need to. It used to have some decent stores but now it is all bargain basement stores. Since IMAX closed a few years ago I have even less reason to go. They need to do something to rebrand it and reduce the number of people that just loiter there.
It's not the best mall in Winnipeg but its okay it connects to the sky walks and you can go pretty in them
The shops on the second floor are great and cheap, but the food court is horrible and very poorly frequented, at the back door to the north there are fights, people with alcohol and drugs
So ghetto mall. Alot of people trying to sell drugs and pills thought out the place.
Lot of shops and restaurants. The foodcourt is great big or small groups eating together.
That's my favorite place to get Nice Coffee!!
always love to visit while on tour - thought the security was polite and top knotch - everyone seemed happy
This mall feels like it has gone down hill since it opened in 1987. It's had minor cosmetic updates since then but thing substantial. If you want to sit down and have a conversation with a broad sample of downtown locals over coffee you won't find a better place.
The mall that everyone forgets... nice to have a food court near uni, but I would never shop here if I didnt have to.
Not bad during the day Bus stops close to door entrances Staples Restaurants Clothings shops Service Canada Dollar store
Went into "The Bay". It was like a dead zone. I selected something in men's wear. There were signs everywhere shouting 30% off everything, rack upon rack. Of course what I selected wasn't marked down. Explained away by some B.S. the clerk told me, small print blah blah blah.
This place is functional, the stores have a nice variety, and you will find what you need inside. The skywalk connecting through the mall attached to the MTS center and the Bay are very convenient. However beware, the food court and the back of the mall are a magnet for sketchy people at all hours of the day.
Great place to shop and to meet up with family and friends
What really can i say... Portage place is, well... its portage place.
Went to Virgin Mobile to get a phone and plan , Jessica was an excellent sales rep , went over and above for me.
Not like how I used to remember it, but the mall is hanging in there , even with all the bad crowd hanging around there all the time .. the food court is all what seems popular still
The ease of accessing almost all of downtown through all the different corridors and underground passages is fantastic. I would not go to this mall to walk around and casually shop, I would go to this mall for a particular shop.
Security seems to have an issue with actual patrons, but completely fine with gangs, drug dealers and beggers loitering and hogging the few benches left in the mall. And heaven forbid you sit momentarily on the huge, marble planter ledges. There is not many stores to go to anymore. HMV, Staples, Claire's and I think that's it. The food court is the only bustling place, but I really hate the seating set up. Very crowded. When Imax and most of the other stores closed up, there really is no reason to come here unless I was in the area and need to replace my earbuds. The fountain used to be the highlight about 20 years ago, and now it's in a decrepit state. The one high spraying jet runs but none of the others. It's not even as lit up as it used to be. It's a shame. The washrooms are something to be avoided. I would rather go to The Bay or trek to City Place to go to the washroom. I caught cleaning staff sloppily using just plain water to wipe down the mirrors and sinks. The mens and women's washroom is uncomfortable too close together with not much privacy between the entrances. There is even a mirror that is aimed at the washrooms so others can see in. I am just very confused to where this so-called mall is headed. It often feels like they are trying to convert it into some sort of homeless shelter or halfway house.
Good for shopping in downtown but huge crowd in food court.
If I need or want something specific at a store that I know is at Portage Place, then I will get it there cause I live close, but normally I would choose Polo Park or St. Vital for more selection and options. It's my opinion that the only area that gets the most business in this mall is the food court...and maybe Tims. Just very poor selection of stores.
Definitely a lot more drab than the last time I was here.
Neighborhood mall, features women and men clothing, food court, drug store, Tim horton's optometrist. Small, clean, safe - has internal walkways to other malls and buildings for cold or rainy days.
The place isn't nice but the Ardene and Stitches there have better prices and stuff than in other places. And the Skywalk Chiropractic has the best chiropractor in town!
Not much to say about this place. Too many transients.some r aggressive. One transient pushed a customer at Tim Hortons then walked away. The Tim Hortons is in portage place. Very busy very crowded. So is portage place
One continuous walkway throughout downtown and great when weather is less than desirable.
Pretty good. Lots of drunk people who loiter though. The store selection is decent.
This is a sad mall I miss sweetz and Imax and other decent stores I always feel unsafe when I am inside the mall and outside this place needs to get better and that poor old fountain I remember it used to flash colours but now it doesn't anymore and It seems like they have actually given up on the fountain and just paint those blocks that people sit on
Not much to this mail but if you like cheap junk and phones then this is the mall for you. On the bright side their is restraunt by the stairs that sells the best fish and chips you have to go to this mall to try it you'll wanna come back again. 5 stairs for the fish and chips.
Lots of Natives at the back door selling pills, crack, etc. Government welfare checks surely being spent wisely.
Too much weird stuff happening around outside. I really only visit for the shoppers drug mart and the food court
Best place to get anything you need
A very well organized and strategic shopping centre
An unsafe waste of space. There are no real destination stores to bring people into the mall. PTE and the skywalks are the only redeeming features.
It's a mall with a bunch of stores I don't need to visit. For a big and tall kind of guy there's not much selection.
Watch out fer street urchins cralling up and anything could happen after 6 pm. . .
I get so much shopping done here and I always feel safe with all the security everywhere.
Not the fanciest mall in Winnipeg but I go here when I want to shop on a budget. It is located downtown so be extra careful. Deals are always better. Parking is pretty epensive though, 1.5 hrs is $6 or the whole day for $8 so I would rather take the bus to go here.
The stores are fine but the security is inconsistent and needs to deal with the drinks more also the new food court hours are... Bad like they might be going out of business
Food court always busy and sometimes people seating there whitout ordering anything so it make difficult for someone ro find a place to seat and enjoy the food that he or she bought. They need to increase security.
Ok selection of stores. The age of the shopping mall is coming to an end, but this mall keeps a high number of vendors.
Aside from the drug dealers and unconscious and high people in front sometimes, I don't feel unsafe. There are stores in here that are useful.
Great mall...variety of stores and pricing...with skywalk to link d city place...best for the Winnipeg cold...
Nice shopping mall in downtown Winnipeg
Grimy and outdated. The mall really needs more security people when there are panhandlers at every entrance, and wandering around the food court. Not many of the shops here aren't available at any of the other malls in town, you can always grab the bus out front and head to a better mall.
Even during this pandemic some restaurants are open and the food court is available if you want to sit down and eat your meal.
Portage Place. The infamous downtown danger-zone. The only thing I'd ever heard about this massive mall is "don't go." After visiting a few times, I realize those people couldn't be more wrong; Portage Place is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, if you're looking for a place to shop or eat, I wouldn't recommend Portage Place. The stores aren't anything special, and the food court seems to be a meeting ground for some fairly freaky folk - even with all the security running around. Have an hour to kill downtown? Walking through the Skywalk? Waiting for a bus transfer? Why not pay a visit to Portage Place?
I always find something anytime I pass through this mall. A few stores here but most close early and i wish more of the store spaces were occupied like it is at polopark
Bento Sushi is a great choice for lunch
Was all closed till 1st of July. They should update that on google maps
Mall has gone way downhill. Nothing but a hang out for gangs now. Food court is good if you work downtown and need lunch but that’s about it.
Although there are not as many and as varied the shops and services this mall once featured, it is a great connector for downtown parking, events, meals and handicap access.
????
What a sad, sad place. Even more useless in the evening. Even by 7pm, the food court is closed and most stores long gone. Even Staples is closed early. One exception I found is Shoppers was still open.
Needs faster services an more workers, great location, an needs to stop wearing masks an following Mandates that go against human rights law.
I really wish that this mall had a better clientele, as it is quite nice. However, the people there do it no favors, and the atmosphere is terrible because of that
Remove the homeless spikes around planters and let exhausted people sit inside the malls ;)
It is wheelchair accessible and as a wide range of shoppers parlor. It a big a arena parking spots.
Shoppers sucked I felt like I was being stalked to me shopping is a private thing especially if it is a drugstore I'm sure they have their issues with shoplifters everywhere. At first I thought it was some perv I almost attacked him on a physical level. Now that would've been bad for me. Well insane scared i wasn't sure what was going on and I will not have both my privacy and safety put in jeopardy as far as I was concerned and.it was. There's got to be a better way of catching shoplifters then scaring other ones. That was the most horrible experience ever.
This place is so sketchy. Gangs chill in the food court and people get stabbed in the front of the mall.
Glorified Bus Shelter Kiosk. There is a Dollarama in there and some cool stuff.
Amazing place to shop, eat and chill. I think the sales are one of the best parts of this mall.
it's a great mall but there's too much addicts that hang in the back of portage
Terrible mall. The stores suck and the food court is bland. Also can be a dangerous place to go alone. More than one of my female friends have nearly been abducted there.
Conviently located downtown but seems to have lost direction and personality. Needs to rethink store mix. Downtown revitalization is passing it by for the time being. Find it's vision and be distinctive.
A shell of the mall it once was. Now they don't want anyone in there. It's sad to see. No harm letting people browse. Hopefully the new development changes things a bit thou I doubt it. It's a hallway between buildings now.
Went to Service Canada ???????? and the lines are phenomenal.. for our safety they have them broken down to 3 separate areas expect a 2 to 3 hour wait if u r planning to go there.. food court wasn't busy got bubble tea
comfortable atmosphere, lots of stores. Bathroom is really gross, don't go here if you can avoid it. if you sit on the planters here the security guards will get on your @%% for it even though sitting there is harmless... and there aren't any benches by the front door by Starbucks which is the most convenient place to meet up with someone. there's often someone playing the piano by the clock tower which is nice to hear above the chatter.
It is a place for a quick bite and shopping. However I would not stay long the security guards tend to start looking at you funny or ask you to leave. If you do not buy anything they will ask you to leave.
Easy to navigate through.
The mall seems like a baron place now. Used to be bustling with activity now it is a dead zone. It is really sad to see.
Portage Place is pretty dead outside of the office hours. There are a number of empty/unoccupied stores. Food court can be busy during lunch hours (weekdays). This mall closes earlier compared to other large malls. Parking is free underground if you spend around $ 15-20 in purchases inside the mall.
Multiple food joints, alright if you shopping there..
The people around this area can be intimidating, there was alot of mall security however.
Lot's of store's not bad price's.not the safest place outside.
I pass through this mall a lot when using the sky walk to get around in winter. The food court options are decently varied so I've grabbed food here many times, but seating can be difficult to find when it's busy. Store selection is okay - I mostly only shop at Staples and The Source when I'm here, though. It's not as shiny a mall as you'll find in the suburbs, but it's central and easy to access by bus.
Portage place mall sucks the mall number never work ????
Needs major improvements
You will need to take a bus or walk here if you dont want to roam with your car for 30 mins looking for a parking space,
Portage place is a very functional mall, it has everything you NEED, but not everything you WANT. There is no flash no style, however it does have a decent aesthetic with the old analog clock tower. I would say are the sketchiest part of the mall are he shoppers, however all the store owners are quite pleasant.
It’s ok not like 15 20 years ago
Always over-crowded especially in the food court. Also smells disgusting and rancid. Other than the food court though, the rest of the amenities are okay.
This place is memorable for me when I came here in Winnipeg... I saw my childhood friend here in coincidence. He is buying lottery ticket and we going to service Canada that time. We didn't even have communication that time...
A pretty rough looking clientèle in general. That security travels in pairs is pretty telling and Dollarama has a security guard pretty much sums it up.
Nice theater venues, kept clean. But the food court. When busy, it's about as fun as the DMV with the added panhandling, Jesus freaks, and people with zero sense of "personal space." Good Thai food, but ambiance-wise, a nightmare.
Expensive parking with a limited shops and filled with security clearing out undesirables. The YMCA and the rest of downtown connected through second level indoor walkways. I love the fountains and the massive clock.
Portage Place has turned around a lot in the past ten years. Unfortunately the lack of vendors makes shopping there a little limited. But the stores that have remained appear to be flourishing. Aside from the transients and vagrants taking up 70% of the food court during peak hours, its not a bad place. I miss the movie theater.
Varieties of shopping options. Has a spacious food court and very comfortable for the powwow.
Excellent security services. Very helpful and make it a safer more comfortable place to shop.
Good place to go if wanna get asked to buy drugs or beat up and the stores that are left aren't anything to special
The mall has a great selection of stores offering most things you might be looking for but a grocery store would be a nice addition.
Lack of good retailers, all the movie theatres shut down, and the Shoppers Drug Mart offers lackluster merchandise at less than spectacular prices.
I first went to Portage Place in the mid 90s, and I've been walking through it for the better part of 2 decades. Cliff notes - it's gone downhill but was never really 'uphill' to begin with. It's fine enough during the day to grab a bite or for very particular thing, but I wouldn't recommend it to a tourist for what you'd normally consider 'shopping mall activities'. Pros: Great people watching, if that's your thing. The skywalks are convenient in escaping Winnipeg's cold while traversing downtown. Some of the food court options are unique AND delicious - the Sushi place, Shawarma and Indian options (try the veggie korma w/seasoned rice!) are personal favorites in the food court , and the fish and chips place on the second floor is delightful if you're in the mood. Some of the long term anchors (Prairie Theatre Exchange & the YMCA particularly) shine as reasons to go and Staples is the only real game in downtown for office supplies. Security is visible and helpful. True north Dental clinic is fantastic (and reasonably priced for a dental clinic). Cons: First and foremost the "patrons". I use quotes because that word normally implies people BUYING something, but during the days you'll discovered this mall is populated by a healthy mix of: - office drones stretching their legs, - U of W students going to/from class - homeless people, - bored people with nothing else to do, and - bored, homeless people with nothing else to do. Very few of whom seem to actually BE buying anything. After 5:30, the university students and office drones go away, and (except on Jets home game nights) that 'healthy mix' becomes 'pretty much just the bored, the destitute and the homeless'. Shockingly, they too seem to not buy much of anything. In the last four years alone I've personally: watched prescription drugs being peddled (in broad daylight) in the parking lot through the north entrance, have witnessed at least two separate shoplifting attempts devolve into someone screaming at the top of their lungs incessantly while they were detained and once had to assist a lady and her young child get to security to report what could only be described as a 'public indecency' incident (and to their credit, Security came RUNNING and in numbers on that one, as you'd hope). Then there's actually sitting IN the food court. I'd recommend... not. To steal a line from a stand up comic (from a decade ago - this isn't sudden) the ethos of the food court patrons can be summed up with "quick, buy a coffee before security evicts us". Its crowded almost all the time, though so if you DO chose to eat there, you will have the simultaneous joy of trying to find seating in a crowded food court (where only 30% of the patrons are actually eating). Of note regarding food and drink would be the Starbucks which, in my estimation may actually hold the world record for being the SLOWEST Starbucks worldwide. Trust me, if you need consistently mediocre coffee with a four person line up (that inexplicably takes ten minutes), this is the place for you! Aside from all that - it's a 'shopping mall' with an almost complete lack of actual shops in the mall (except the food court and cell phones carriers, for some reason). At my last count, there were 7 empty storefronts in the mall and its surrounding skywalks, with numerous former storefronts now occupied by government services or NFP/outreach programs. Most of the remaining stores seem completely devoid of patrons whenever I pass by - with the exception of Shoppers Drug Mart and the Dollar Store, who do brisk business. In summary - if you have a specific reason to go, sure. If you're in the area and need to grab a quick bite to go or a printer cartridge, absolutely. But if you're legitimately looking for a "mall" in the more traditional sense of the word, you're much better off going elsewhere - Polo Park is a 15-25 minute bus ride on the #11 west of here, and can be on the north side of Portage, across the street from the RBC.
Needs more store variety.
Very dingy, practically no stores left
Lots of great stores. Loved going there but got scared of the fountain everytime.
I only went here to go to service Canada. I hadn't been in the mall in three years. It's sketchy at best - from the gangs to the lack of open shops in the mall. Parking is bad at the best of times and construction everywhere.
Its difficult to get to a shop that you want because of all the added covid security
Lots of closed stores. The food court is open.
It closes earlier than other malls, so next time I'll go earlier. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by all the great quality stores, and I truly enjoyed the convenience of the parkade.
Nice spot to shop and quick bite for food. Very reasonably priced shops found in the mall. One thing i disliked were the washrooms in the mall. Not so clean.
Was at Staples staff were helpful and welcoming. They also answered all my print questions and worked to make sure I was getting what I wanted.
I love the Manchu at the food court. The shopping mall itself requires more good vendors to attract shoppers to come but because there isn't much variety of choices shoppers go to Polo Park instead of having the business here. Also the waiting shed by the Edmonton area that the Mayor closed it's ugly! Not inviting. You might as well fix that and have some police to watch that area if you want to prevent crimes to happen. Portage Place needs a lot of improvement. But it has a potential to drive more business if well taken care of.
This could be a great mall if it was renovated and the quality of people who hang out there could be changed. I wish Imax would work too
All type od stuff is available.
I get my medication from here and sometimes the pharmacy staff seemed burnt out and done, but I get it. It's a busy location, with a log of foot traffic. Sometimes the staff in general seem apathetic, but I also understand that this location has high customer flow and can be under staffed to take care of everyone's needs. Still recommend, but a little understanding for some of the employees behaviour is needed.
Lack of quality retailers. Just HMV, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a Staples to go to. Some hidden gems are the Sports Jersey store and the little Asian gift shop on the 2nd floor.
It's a very chill spot. And the fountains kinda cool and all. And good selection of shops and stores
Decent if you want a place to walk around. But not to many shops I would say are destination shops unfortunately.
I love watching groups of people hanging out in the food court talking and laughing and enjoying themselves, especially those who look like they may be homeless. It brings me joy to see them enjoying themselves in a warm, dry, safe place with their friends. I am upset about the fact that portage place will soon no longer exist...where will these people gather now? what a sad loss of a great community space.
This mall has gone way down....nothing appealing
This place is so quiet, locals and visitors should support it more as it’s a nice facility
It basically a dead mall other than the food courts and shoppers
Its reduced capacity due to covid-19 but its a great mall
I wouldn’t shop here again. However the staples has some good staff. I always walk through here, they could have better management. Their motto should be ‘always thinking backwards.’ Security is racist and will follow you if you are not white.
Generally no line ups, not much major stores but lots of local owned small businesses. Skywalk to the Bay and Citi Place is convenient. Indoor parking available too.
Meh. To many beggars... and I don't mind giving change to peeps. Just too much of it. If I was small or a woman I'd be very wary... didn't feel safe. Parking is expensive and traffic sucks. Better to stay in the burbs.
Convenient when working downtown. Great place for a quick coffee in the morning.
There are better places to shop that aren't that far away. I feel safety is an issue in and around this mall.
There are many other great shopping options in the city of Winnipeg. I would avoid this mall and head to Polo Park instead.
Always kept clean, always security guards around, a convenient and safe downtown space. Not a huge selection of stores so just look at what stores there are before visiting. Pretty decent food court too.
There's only mall, right? So it's fine... Observed another aggressive behavior.
Please don't change a thing this place is just amazing!!! Great food selections awesome stores!
Extremely sketchy, not amazing store selection and we while washing our hands in the bathroom we were rudely asked “why are you shopping in portage place go somewhere you belong” DO NOT RECOMMEND
Now that police and security have cleared out the drug sellers behind the mall Portage Place is much more appealing. The food court still seems to be a loitering hang out for people on low income. Perhaps 30 minute time limits could be applied since it is a fast food place to eat. Tim Hortons should be located in a bigger location seperate from the food court area. Perhaps where HMV just closed.
Inside is more relaxed its outside that is crazy. Anyways good sales when they happen.
In The Ghetto On a cold and gray Chicago mornin' Another little baby child is born In the ghetto (In the ghetto) And his mama cries cause if there's one thing that she don't need it's another little hungry mouth to feed In the ghetto (in the ghettoo)
There are NO safe GF options for celiacs here, and although the Dollarama was clean the staff ignored repeated pages by their (brand new, first day) front cashier who was desperate for help with a lineup of almost 20 people.
Took my daughter shopping @ Ardene's. Staff was friendly.
Honestly the stores there a decent but security and Portage places supposed rules change weekly as my service dog and me have been allowed in Portage place for a long time and then randomly they're just like I don't know sorry you're not allowed in here, you need a City service tag number honestly I don't need a city service tag number I don't have nine I don't have $9,000 to train him do you
Much better environment than it used to be. Great shops. Decent food court.
There are hardly any stores and a lot of security guards. I don't feel safe at this mall. The mall also seems run down and definitely needs a renovation. St Vital and Polo Park are better malls. A&W and Tim Hortons are clean and have friendly service. Don't waste your time coming to this mall, plus you have to pay for parking.
It's ok for some last minute shopping
Bathrooms are possibly, incurably, grotesque. Decent selection in the food court. Other shops are kinda meh.
Needs to follow human rights law an not follow unjustified Mandates, needs more workers.
In terms of location its right in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. Lots to do around here. Major brands have outlets here.
Smaller mall with a lot of clothing stores and a decent food court. I recommend the fried chicken place.
Let's just say it used to be a nice place...not anymore, with all these people
Dirty inside and out, drug dealers crowding the back entrance, bus shack is gross. I only like the fountain for my kids
They need more stores and there are alot of bumby people there but thwy have the main stores but no bra stores :/..
I Went There Once, and There's Huge Amount of Food, Tech & Fashion. Although Other Shopping Locations are Suitable; Portage Place is Full of Foreigner's Who Have (to my Surprise) 100% Awesome Knowledge of Technology. I Love People With Huge Knowledge of Phones, Technology, so Forth!
Only thing that is good here is the Canada Service Center. Other than that dont even bother.
Staples was a bummer, would not price match Best Buy on Philips Hue smart bulb. Ended up going to The Source and bought something else. Now at home just seen amazon.ca has the Best Buy price with free delivery and add-on smart plug.
Great location. And some useful stores but i find it very uneasy and unsettling.
Portage Place Shopping Centre is a calm shopping mall with gorgeous architecture. It isn't the greatest place to shop in Winnipeg but probably the most beautiful one.
Place is just a disgusting area filled with undesirables not worth going there for shopping or eating with out getting harrased by the undesirables to spare some change.... or getting asked if you want to buy some kind of drugs pot or pills ect...they should just turn portage place Into a parking lot or a shelter for the homeless.
Not safely place, lots of gangs although it still has lots of security. But the food is delicious!
Downtown shopping centre with an array of potential.
Good variety of stores although I'm not sure anything happens on the topmost floor
Feeling unsafe all the time!
Although opposite Bell MTS place, this shopping centre could be on another planet. It always feels run down and somewhat decrepit. The easiest way to describe it is SAD.
Winnipeg worst mall, avoid if possible. Choose any other mall
Good for quick services. The fellas inside are the worse, avoid if possible.
This place should be shut down what a dump. I would make it an indoor entertainment center with a dog park swimming pool miniature golf movie theaters put two towers up top for living and be done with the scumbags that hang out in there!
Still the same old Portage place lol
In the heart of downtown and connects to city place and mts place and Winnipeg square from here through the skywalks
Just ok ok. It has useful stores. But the place is awful to spend time or eat.
There are places within which are useful, needed - Staples, Drugstore, Canada Services. It is true a lot of people meet each other at the food court. It is food court food though.
Nice shopping centre but does not have enough shops here. It has a good eating section though.
Not safe, The only reason why am giving 2 stars is for shoppers and the food court.
not the best shopping mall in WPG or the best crowd. better off taking the trip down Portage to Polo Park .
Love Portage Place. Beautiful building. Great stores and food.
The crowd here can at times be a bit rough around the edges, but the food court is in my opinion the best one downtown with a very good selection of cuisine. The mall has everything you need in terms of daily essentials.
Not as many shops now. Dirty. Riff raff everywhere. Family doesn't feel safe half the time.
This is a dated and run down mall, I'm not sure how it stays open as it looks as If most of the customers are just passing through. Many empty stores show that business is not good there us also a high number of security people patrolling which gives the impression that there is a real danger of criminal activity.
Nice mall to walk through on your way to other places. Has a good amount of services and stores for downtown, but you're not going to get as good customer service as many other malls in the city. Also, they have a really bad history with kicking people out undeservedly.
Strange hours. The security take their jobs too seriously, yes this is a bad area, no that does not make you a police officer. Being followed through the entire mall while shopping is just one of the things that makes being here an unpleasant experience. "No sitting on the planters" apart from the unwelcome environment, they have regular deals in the stores, the food court is alright and out front is a good place to catch a bus to a proper mall or literally anywhere else ????
Nice place but in some sense is kind depressing place
Um not enough ambience I feel like I'm in some abandoned subway tunnel fending off zombies or mutants or whatever. Food court has good food albeit a little crowded
Portage place has many wonderful places to ship. From gift giving, to personal shopping. You can find just about everything you may be looking for all in one big shopping centre. There are even fountains in the mall that rise from to first floor to the second floor very often. A great place to amuse children who are tired of adult shopping. They also have a service centre for Service Canada within the mall. There are also many businesses upstairs from the mall. Its a great place for business and pleasure all in one giant place. No going outside getting wet or cold. Its all in one.
Dying mall. Horrible hours. Hopefully projected development revitalizes the area. Do Not venture out the north doors towards Ellice.
Good shopping location at the heart of downtown all under cover plenty of food choices as well.
Scary to be anywhere near here, constantly feel like I'm gonna get stabbed
Love it so much there
Theres hardly a store youll be interested in . Every fourth or fifth patron is a homeless person. Theres a lot of security (i understand why). Its not uncommon to see a drunk person fall over or do something weird. If you know what store youre looking for, and this mall has it, go in and get out. Its not the mall to go for a stretch and try to catch up on the latest trends
Ardanes was the most racist place I've been I seen a cashier break off to a lady and her 2 kids , was very disappointing and embarrassed for the lady , the cashiers lacked customer service skills
I was able to find everything I needed (and do some pricing) at the Staples, recharge my bus pass; get info on cell phone case options and costs from the mall kiosk, The Source and the Telus store; and pickup a few needed items at the mall Dollarama. Despite a huge line-up at the latter, all done in less than 2 hours.
The selection of stores is kind of poor, but the parking is alright. Wish IMAX were still there.
Worst rascit mall ever today me my friend got threatened by a security guard just cause we were drinking ice caps from Tim’s Hortins and that wasn’t our fault we didn’t see no sign saying no drinking/eating the security guard said to us if I see you guys drinking again I am grabbing both of you guys and tossing out on the street. Don’t ever go to this mall especially if you indigenous and black.
Despite its bad hype... I love to come get some quick shopping done here. Its convenient, they have great stores inside, all bus access at almost every entrance if not all of them, between food court staff, security staff, and all the department stores employees they have been really nice, helpful and friendly. I think all these people deserve a lot of credit!!
Dirty and full of drug addicts, upside is there isn't any line ups since most of the other patrons are not shopping. A lot of panhandlers. Good parking.
Gang hangout, great place to get yourself killed. Looks pretty at Christmas though, and that spell binding fountain always entertains! UPDATE: I lowered the rating to one star because the escalators are on their third week of maintenance (just fixed!), plus a guy collapsed in front of Shoppers at lunch today and wet himself. And these are not rare occurrences in this mall! Taco Tuesdays still rule though.
Great place lots of different stores just the security guards like to Mean Mug you if your younger
new setup makes no sense thanks to covid restrictions, hopefully stores open back up soon
The mall was as good as always. The Renta-cops where all over making their presence known, ooouuh, rent-cop rent-cop, whatcha goin to do, whatcha goin to do when you realize your useless...?!?!??
Too much people asking if you want to buy drugs/pills. Always see someone getting kicked out by security. And every time I've been there I've always witnessed at least 1 fight. Way too many people selling drugs in the back. This is the worst mall in Winnipeg.
There needs to be some hella energy learning in this place, like mad amounts of sage smudging and serious shaman work to clear this places vibes. And that's not to talk about the people, this building is on something that won't let it succeed and it's winning
Be aware that yesterday my smartphone was stolen and taken to this place. This is the last tracking report I have. Somebody tried to use my credit card at Shoppersdrugmart located in Portage Place
Busy mall but not a lot of shops.
Went there with friends after class and witnessed a three person brawl in the middle of the afternoon... not a great atmosphere if you have kids
The mall is nice but often run into homeless people. There is a bus stop right front of the mall. Their parking is horrible. Lack of space. Stores in there are good, reasonable price.
Sketchy. It looks like half of the shop spaces are vacant. Dingy. You don't want to be caught eating at this food court. For basic needs, it at least has a Shoppers Drugmart and Dollarama.
Ok place for quick shopping. Wash rooms are gross. Atmosphere sucks...
This place would be much better and safer if it didn't have the filthy people from downtown
Excellent selection of barbiturates and opiates all in a friendly open community setting
Good mall (2 floors with lots of stores) which is located downtown. A lot of people at the food court (always busy) and a lot of security guards. No parking space for vehicles, but has a bus stop near.
Small mall, little selection many of the people in the food court are homeless and loitering. The staff does what it can with it's location and the poverty issues in downtown winnipeg.
Good mall, good food court, has a great YMCA in there. lots of unique shops you wouldn't find anywhere else. l have to deduct a couple stars because as everyone in winnipeg knows, it's the winnipeg mall you would be most likely to get jacked or assaulted in. Wouldn't surprise anyone. Nuff' said. criminal activity in that place, is pretty big, as is the amount of drug dealers and common criminals. despite all the efforts of police, security and downtown BIZ. Sorry just being honest.
It's an old building, but doesn't look bad for its age, and the shops inside aren't the greatest, but they sustained the look
Pretty pathetic mall for being at the centre of downtown Winnipeg. Need more attractive retail spots going in rather than spots that's are just going to cover the rent..
Great stores inside nice food court if there isn't drama but the drug scene that's going on behind the mall is not nice
Shopping is good there, but a lot of drug dealers and beer drinkers, wouldn't suggest taking kids there
This Mall needs a total renovation! The food court looks like a welfare office! The 3rd level has nothing! Looks like a dead mall! The fountain area with it's industrial looking yellow painted metal boxes looks terrible! The area on the west upper side where Cherry Creek is looks like the 80's decor!
The mall is pretty dirty and the security isn't great as a woman I wouldn't exactly be comfortable going here alone.
Not a great mall and because it is downtown there are some gang activities happening there as well as general crime. Generic stores...not much to write home about
Generally somewhat crowded and I can never figure out why. Shopping selection is mediocre, entertainment is snooze worthy, and the food is just alright. Go here if you need something here, not to browse.
Lots of shops to choose from! I love checking out late movies in this mall for some reason. it's nice to be in the mall when there is hardly anyone else around!
The mall does have some decent stores (HMV, Sunrise) but if you are wanting to do some shopping you will be much better off if you go somewhere else
Portage Place is in the best shape I have ever seen it. Good security and a much more friendly place to shop ????
I don't like the public there. It's better to find other place if you want to do some shopping
It's a perfect place for shopping. Its not to big, and there is a good diversity of shops, and places to eat.
You feel like you're being watched by security everywhere you go and it's very busy food court with mostly people just hanging out for coffee
A little sketchy, sad eb games is no longer around either.. security seems racist to only follow colored people around
It's a relatively small shopping mall. Busy mall. They have almost everything you need.
It is in a very convenient location right in the heart of downtown with many bus routes stopping in the front of the mall.
Pretty good mall needs to be modernized but other than that it's a pretty nice mall
Love the convenience of this place with all the different places to go in one huge area, from eateries to a library and casino to medical facility. There are so many things here.
Not a 5 star mall but I'll always have a soft spot for Portage Place; so many memories here, growing up. IMAX, Oriental Gifts (skywalk), YMCA, HMV, Foot Locker, Burger King, Grand and Toy, Uptown Sports (skywalk), the piano at centre court, Baskin Robbins, Staples, the food court, the bus shack, i could go on but I can't leave out the iconic water fountain (a kid favourite, as a kid myself but also showing it to my own kid and seeing the look on [it's] face)! And who can forget the epic walk from Hudson's Bay through the mall and skywalk to Eaton's and beyond....
4 stars due to paid parking. However everything else is great lots of stores full service food court. Mall is clean and had on site security
The shops are weird and awful, the atmosphere is intimidating, very dirty, I think there's a video somewhere of a guy taking a dump in a planter. I would avoid if possible
Fairly run of the mill mall in the heart of the city. Has a nice food court with options, including a Tim Hortons. Good place to grab food before or after Jets games. Be aware that the homeless spend a lot of time here in large numbers, so be ready for uncomfortable encounters, if that bothers you.
This place wasn't bad at all. Seeing the fountain brings waves of nostalgia and I like that sports store that sells jerseys.
Although the area around the mall can be dirty, and the mall is pretty empty of shops nowadays, I still have alot of nostalgia for this place. And it is worth stopping by to check out at least once. If nothing else, it connects to a skywalk that can give you a pretty nice view of downtown Winnipeg.
best mall to go to in winnipeg if you enjoy the thrill of knowing you might get stabbed while shopping for a new pair of jordans.
due to covid lots of stores are closed but still there are decent shops around. Theres a few cell phone repair shops most especially on the second floor, you can negotiate for a better price
It was very surprising to buy cheap. There are many stores and fast food to spend a nice day of shopping
Totally not the mall I remember. Went with my daughter for breakfast, well tried. The moment we entered I was shocked wanted to sit down the food court was closed, can't sit by the planters signs all over the place saying don't sit here.security very rude & aggressive. Ended up eating out front of the place. Very unimpressed will not be going back.
Central location is very convenient when I have to transfer downtown. It's a little more chill than the other malls and in the winter it has definitely helped me keep warm in the mornings. I walk to school everyday and it's on the way so walking through the mall during the winter gives me a nice break from the cold. Also cheap clothes at stitches ain't bad.
I try to avoid going here at all costs, with the meth crisis in winnipeg its really dangerous, especially as woman. I never go here alone.
Great convenient location, a little bit of everything. I enjoy walking through the sky walk, enjoying our great multicultural city during fall and winter with a hot cup of coffee
One of the good mall where you can find on sale products, if you don't care the ambiance and crowd, if you know what I mean
Not worth the trip. Very little open on Sunday. Shoppers and some of the food court.
I would give higher rating if it weren't for all the sketchy looking people there all the time.
This mall is a good place to go if you are on a budget. A lot of sale items from other malls in the city end up at portage place (Suzy and Stitches). It is sketchy, its downtown Winnipeg...what do you expect? If I cant find anything at Polo Park I can go to Portage Place and I know I will find something.
It's close and convenient for the people that live In the hustle n bussle of down town Winnipeg! It has 3 floors of a good variety of stores to shop at!
A little trough around the edges and in need of some tlc, Portage Place was a great idea that never really hit its stride. There aren’t very many stores left, though it’s working reasonably well as an office and social service hub. Fully committing to a new direction may save it, but I’m not sure that I’d recommend heading down to shop.
Nice ????
Was clean and quiet but is sad to see a beautiful place almost gone.
Years ago I worked in the food court,it was sketchy even back then...bums hanging out all day drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes. This mall has gone severely downhill since then and I never go there. Yep this place is dying and on it's way out and I say good riddance! Avoid this place like the plague.
Having to pay for parking is definitely a downside of this mall. Went to Service Canada. While there I noticed some people came in with masks and gloves. They were not required to use hand sanitizer because they wore gloves. Who knows how many germs they picked up with their gloves and put on surfaces inside Service Canada
Do not like this place, it's full of unsavory people and I get nervous walking through there. Only reason I go through there is I park there for Bell MTS Place events. This might change.
If my dentist weren't here, its unlikely I would ever be back. Expensive parking
Its always nice to have all my shopping done at one mall, and that's accommodating to my schedule.
Stores, hidden jems like the Asian shop, always pop by starbucks, wifi through out, clean bathrooms, worth a look, not the most convenient for me but a lot of people seem to like hanging out there. Please like my reviews, I have nothing else in my life!
Love buying food n shop at the dollarama
Was approached 3 different times by 3 different individuals asking if I was looking or selling “stuff” AKA drugs. And this was on the same visit!! I like to think I carry myself well and don’t give off drug dealer/user vibes. But mind you, this IS Downtown Winnipeg we’re talking about. I guess simply being around there is enough to make people assume you’re into drugs. There are always security guards dealing with some incident at this mall. Lots of shady characters all over the place. Food court is very dirty and the store selection sucks. Avoid if you can. Make your way to Polo Park or St Vital mall instead. Both are way safer and you’ll actually have a decent shopping experience.
It was a long day at portage place and fulfillment was a factor in our lives in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. ⚡????⚡ Ekosi, Every Child Matters Most.????
Unsafe environment. Used to be a good area many years ago. But today it's very negative place. Questionable characters.
Went to see a play at the Prairie Theater Exchange. Superbly acted theatre experience.
Not a lot of variety, and anywhere you would want to shop in or get a contract with a carrier at probably has another location either a short walk away in Cityplace and Winnipeg Square or a 10-minute drive to Polo Park (add a couple extra minutes down St. James for Staples). I can't say that I've personally encountered beggars myself, but I don't doubt that they're a problem. It kind of resembles some of America's struggling and nearly dead malls, and really makes you question whether or not the owners give a damn, but I think the fact they haven't even bothered to claim their Google Maps listing speaks volumes in regards to that.
Im going to miss this place.when it's gone .
I personally hate downtown but this mall doesn't have very many shopping options. There is a handful of clothing stores but usually for smaller sized girls/women. There is a fairly large food court but it's always packed and the area and mall usually smell funky. Bathrooms are not usually clean. It's goid if you are in the area and I need a quick Dollerama stop or a Tim's. There is also a shoppers. The nail salon on the 3rd floor sucks.
No free parking here avoid th8s place if not important thing you need city parking killing busness
Portage place is certainly feeling alot safer with the added police and security present. Seeing more and more empty stores but hopefully that changes soon. The mall appears well maintained.
I find it every time I go to the washrooms they are discussing and the whole eating area is also discussing I worked as a cleaner people can do a better job.
The mall is well lit and looks beautiful, especially when it's decorated. The only reason I don't shop.there often is because it does not have a great variety of shops or even a great food court
Went for bento box at the food court was delish as usual
Best mall I've ever seen with all things available under one roof .
The place is great. It's just the other malls but the advantage of this mall is that it's connected to other main buildings in the vacinity through skywalks. Meaning you don't have to go outside to get to other place when it's freezing cold outside.
Clean quiet early am 900
It's a smaller mall as compared to the newer ones in the city. I don't like it's food court as it does not have a lot of variety and limited sitting space.
Good shopping but the employees at iMark connect need to stay at their desks instead of video taping little girls trying to pick up a quarter that's glued to the floor. We have video proof as well. And we did get the quarter.
There is no free parking. Either street parking with the meter or in the parade. It's a good place to walk when it's cold outside as Portage Place is all connected to the library, MTS center, Convention Center, City Place and some other buildings.
Not a great mall to go to, too crowded with people just walking thru to get to sky walks...shops are pretty boring. Was pleasantly surprised though by seeing two halal options in the food court for Shawarma.
I would never reccomend this mall. There are no great stores & just walking through it makes you uncomfortable.
Great place but no parking available.
Nice place to go to for shopping and good take out for chicken and fries
If the employees specifically the manager of the securities does not fallow the *rules* such as walking and sitting in the food court without a mask and at a table for 30+ minuts with his sister to be very clear but then feels the need to send the security to someone's table to tell them they have excited the 30minut limit sitting at the table.... How does that work. Someone explain plz?
Great place to shop and to meet up with family and friends
Portage Place is a great Mall to Shop , visit nd relaxed. Its Central nd close to most Business Places.
Horrible employees in every store never once had nice customer service. Worst mall to go to In Canada
Security is on top of everything. Very observant of situations and taking care of everyone.
In the food court, there are more people simply hanging around than those who bought their food.
For parking, the pay station only takes credit cards. There are no pay stations on P2. Some pay stations are around the corner and visible right away.
Great location and very accessible, but the problem lies in the groups that hang out at the enntrance and exits. Not a very nice crowd so to say
Second line chains and outdated products. If your looking for anything new, modern, of hip this is not the place to go.
Run down, not too many good stores and lots of loitering by the wrong crowd. It is best to visit during banking hours where it is busy with downtown workers.
Greasy, dirty, somewhat dangerous. A few adjectives to describe this place. The only mall in WPG where security wears kevalr gloves AND vest. I see deplorables get expelled on the regular. Good place to get out of the cold.
Terrrible mall mostly used as a hub for transit and the skywalks in the city, outdated interior the security guards are useless and d*ckheads like why can’t you sit on the planters there’s barely any benches around food always stinks and people just sit there all day when they don’t even order food and take up sitting space always drunk Bums at the entrance bumming for change and security don’t even do anything about it and not great store selection, so if you’re looking for a place to shop don’t come here go to polo park it’s obviously better in my experience
Unfortunately not a very good selection of shops. I'm hoping as more housing options become available downtown it will help this mall secure more/better tenants. The food court is surprisingly solid with several good, typical mall food options.
Unsafe. Unkept. Lots of loiterers. Drug deals rampant. Drunk and intoxicated. Tons of homeless people walking about. Tons of beggers and "bums" asking for change and cigarettes. Businesses never last. This use to the a beautiful mall back in the early to mid 90s, it's just a remnant of that iconic era. I wish they would demo it, it's not safe and not enjoyable walking around the mall. It's basically manitoba housing and a homeless shelter. Absolutelyy no good retailers left anymore, all discount shops you'd see in a low income neighborhood. Absolutely no reason to come downtown for shopping anymore.
Affordable price of items. Good food. No parking space for vehicle but has a bus stop for easy access to mobility.
One of the oldest malls in Winnipeg but still one of the most up to date in terms of look and shops. Great place to shop at.
Not too many shops.very few good shops, Suzy , ardene, footlocker, shoppers drug and staples are the only stores I love in this place. They have Starbucks here, but not the usual coffee shop with chairs and tables.
A good place to connect to business offices in downtown. However, I wasn't happy on my last visit because many businesses have closed down due to Covid and financial status of those business owners. Let's pray that God should intervene and bring things back to normal.
Sad looking "shopping mall". Not many relevant stores, but the skywalks are convenient for cold Winnipeg winter nights. Only visit for live theatre (PTE) or on the way to Bell MTS Place.
Awesome service always awesome customer service always people are always willing to help you out great place to shop and meet up with ur friend s anytime Timmy s has great customer service always
Felt comfortable in portage place. Lots of security around.
I love how there is always good deals whenever you go to this mall & also the food court always smells amazing, I love how there is a dollarama on the second floor. I can do all my shopping at this mall & will always feel safe.
My time was very well, i had lunch listened to music and enjoyed the tranquility as i finished my soda, yes i really liked my time at portage place today and will return again????
So much of the mall is vacant now, too bad they forced out the old independent dollar store to replace it with Dollarama when there is another Dollarama 2 blocks away.
Portage place is no longer interesting place!!! So many stores are closed.
Easy to access food court was clean courteous staff
Very few customers, but apparently lots of drug dealers. Probably a great place to buy meth. Security seems oblivious or is intentionally ignoring it. Probably the worst spot in the city, not a great first impression if you just got to winnipeg. Unless your plan was to meet random people and be sold drugs, in which case there's really nothing like it anywhere in Canada. 2 stars only because it at least has lots of shops so you can probably buy most things and it's got a nice central location.
Good decent mall besides the poor and addicts hang around
It is an excellent mall. Lots of little stores. Be careful with the food court though
Nice little mall. Has the basics, clean and not busy at all on the weekend.
Would be nice if for us seniors there was a place to rest.
Well insane scared i wasn't sure what was going on and I will not have both my privacy and safety put in jeopardy as far as I was concerned and.it was. There's got to be a better way of catching shoplifters then scaring other ones. That was the most horrible experience ever.
I walk into work everyday. Why cant this be part of the skywalk system. Indoor safe warm transit from Vaughn to Carlton.
It's got a few nice things and nice stores. But the atmosphere is kind of sketchy.
The worst mall in the city.... very dirty, out of date, and terrible shopping options... theres 3 shops that sell poorly designed "hood clothing"/fake designer.
You can always get great deals on used cell phones and weapons at the bus stop outside, plus there’s a dollarama and a giant stitches.
Clean mall, cozy, could use some more diverse stores . Most places are very niche, so unless you are going to a particular place not a mall to walk around and spend a day shopping in.
I like to visit this place almost every time I'm in the city!
Nope never again. It had a shoppers...i bought a drink. Take it off the map. More security than patrons.
Great place to come and shop... it would be better if the people shopping were a little nicer and a little more patient in their endeavors
City jewelry is moving to polo park. September 1 sad for downtown
Old, ugly, hardly any good stores. Tourists please do not judge Winnipeg by this disgusting mall
Always crowded in the food court, overall good, Manitoba health and service Canada close by, insurance and pharmacy as well
Stores are of poor quality (besides the staples) and half of them are closed. Now that the imax and globe theatre are closed the only reason to visit is PTE and the Fringe Festival
Good selection of stores, more good places to eat than some of the other malls. If you know how to deal with some of the unsavoury people that can gather there you'll have a good time.
Hmm. I give two stars because it still offers products and there is nothing else in the are; It’s still a mall. It is gross, scary. The hours are extremely limited.
This place is centrally connected a very popular venues including the Bell MTS place and the Bay. It’s a decent place to shop for essentials. It’s clean and easy to find stuff.
Good and up to date on covid regulation and redirection through out the mall. Clean and secure.
Easily the worst mall I have ever been to. In dire need of renovation, actually witnessed a drug transaction taking place in the food court at 11am on a Tuesday. Carry pepper spray !
A lot of Shifty characters hang around this location. If you can put on a tough face and not get approached by anyone this place is not bad.
Great place to go,lots of stores open. Food court recently reopened.
Bar far the sketchiest mall in this city... I just went for a clearance store I wanted to check out but felt seriously uncomfortable moving through the mall. It's sad that this is our only huge downtown shopping mall and it's full of drug addicts and bums... I avoid this mall at all costs unfortunately.
Too much young solicitors in the area, but overall it's an alright mall.
I don't going to Portage Place for coffee or having lunch, but you get the panhandlers coming in & bugging people for money
Portage Place Mall Is ok. Personally it's not a mall I would do a lot of shopping at or want to spend slit of time at. The washrooms are really dirty I try not to use if possible.
It is really nice to have so many places that you can shop with out going over the city to get what you want or need. Just be warned. There are usually a lot of people like being there. So it's always crowded.
Not the biggest mall but wide range of stores
Half the stores are empty. Panhandlers around every corner.
They opened up the malls again, and they made sure to block off some of the entrie ways. That will help alot because of the pandemic.
Was very busy there today. The only bad thing I have to say is that there should be more benches throughout the mall for people to sit down.
Not bad
Very limited selection of stores. It has vastly improved though but it could be better.
I wish there’s a better way to describe this location. Depending on the time , one takes a calculated risk just being there. Panhandlers ( some of them drank) liketo congregate near parking meters and harassed people. It’s the last place I want to visit if I can help it. It’s too bad because MEC is one place I would like to visit.
Had Joey's fish and chips. Fish full of bones
While still one of my favorite malls in Winnipeg, due mainly to a couple of stores and personal nostalgia, i feel it has gone down hill drastically after the closing of the IMAX and the Theater. It needs an event venue of some kind installed on the 3rd floor to come back into its own.
Not the best mall but it is convenient. Located in the downtown area, so very central. But you might meet all kinds here, so be careful. There is a ok selection of stores, but I don't think the choices are as refine as you would fine at other locations.
Close to a number of Winnipeg attractions. Close to a number of good restaurants and hotels as well. Offers a wide variety of stores. Has a very good selection in its food court.
This Jewel with the clock tower was the brainchild of his. Izzy Koop. Beautiful execution Clocktower Centre Hall but the people in there well I don't think I'd go there after Dark and the the food court is Gang Central. If I were a business I think twice about relocating there. Unless you were selling cheap baub les or equally tawdry merch. I'm in the elevator down to the parkade is dangerous!
This is one of the worst malls to go to, if you consider it a mall. It was a nice busy place back in the day. Now it's just a place I try to avoid. So many people in and out begging change or a smoke. There used to be a few drunks in the back entrance yelling g at people minding their own. I think the food court is owned by one guy.
Lots of people bug you for smokes or try sell you drugs. They shouldve made this mall one of the best seeing that is downtown. Something like West Edmonton Mall. Now it's a regular boring mall.
Good place to go and relax downtown. The food court is ok and the stores sell a wide variety of quality items
It's almost better than having no mall close by. Food court is okay if you're starving. But for shopping the mall itself lacks options and lacks excitement.
Then I decided to try an experiment and put all of my hard work to the test. The next morning I got up and walked straight to my computer.. In less than three weeks you can be looking at things differently, more creatively, if you displayed are all for right-handers? I ll show
A cest pool that should be razed. It's only purpose is for street scum to hang out and sell drugs and to rob people waiting for the bus or eating in the food court. DO NOT go there after ordinary office hours or on a night where there is not an event at MTS centre. The only plus is the ample underground parking for JETS games.
All doors on the building except one were locked. The signage on the doors were unclear which door was open and I did a full lap around the building to get in.
Sketchy lots of bystanders be careful when your here watch out and be cautious
Not too many stores here that peak my interests (31 year old), except a Service Canada service centre, Dollarama and Staples. Lots of peddlers, gangsters, druggies and drunks loitering inside and out, security doesn't seem to care either (mind you security guards can't really do anything in Canada, other than "observe and report").
Great selection of shops!!
I work here but it's in a state of transition the mall has been sold and I heard it is closing at the end of October
The escalators are super sketchy and I hate using them, the bathrooms are abysmal. Stores are fine, as is the food court.
You can buy lots of stylish and cheap clothes here. Just be patient finding parking though. Better if you just ride a bus
Sadly covid has turned this cute place into a ghost town
I live downtown for 30 years . I have found people here friendly and very helpful, . ,Most bigger malls are very busy so its harder for them to service you. It's a quieter mall . I am a female and have never found any issues of safety any time of day.
OMG! Have not been at Portage Place for years. So sad to see the place virtually empty.
Great place to eat at and meet people
Not much there, lots of creepy people in certain areas. Still, not a bad place to walk through if you are in the area. I would save shopping for the suburban malls.
Not am ideal mall to visit with all the ppl that hang around this mall makes me very uncomfortable
It is a nice city shopping mall.
Good to walk through to get to MTS Centre but not great to shop.
Nice place to eat n shop. Veg, halal food is there. Find almost everything from socks to computers, phones, tabs.
Worst mall ever 95% people trying to bum change and smokes ,5% actual people shoppers . Time to close it down . Only good part of the mall is the underground parking .
There are a lot more offerings now inside the mall. It's convenient that there is a Dollarama inside. They need to have more security to limit the time people hang out in the food court. Sometimes, you can really feel unsafe inside the mall, bit during work hours (since there are offices at Portage place), it's okay to actually go there. It's at night time where things get sketchy.
Worst mall in Winnipeg. Outside of underground parking for mts center events, or work, absolutely no one really wants to go to that mall. No one wants to address the elephant in the room, but it's the people who hang out there. Clean up the 'riffraff' and it might be ok for the Late 80s /early 90s
Security are over hyped man children. Definitely do not care to be followed when I'm buying a brand new phone outright!!! I left and went to Polo Park and had a wonderful time. Spent over 700 on my new LG Velvet with all the fixings!
I don't feel safe at this mall. The mall also seems run down and definitely needs a renovation. St Vital and Polo Park are better malls.
lots of nice stores and places to eat always busy. Winnipegs best mall
Downtown area shopping centre, having dining area food courts, various clothing shops, Shoppers, various offices, Canada Service, the mall security guards are there too and are friendly, the same as Canada Service agents they are kind friendly and informative, too. But the business hour is somehow less than other shopping Centre, maybe because it is downtown, so it might not suit all schedules, so you need to check its schedule in the internet etc before going there to make sure the shopping centers and the places you want to visit is open or not
Lots of shops and eatery for resting. Is wheelchair accessible. Needs cleaner washrooms tho and hours. Closes at 6pm daily
I do't shop at portage place, except at sun rise health food store. Bonita, one of the sales associates is very knowledgeable, hence I shop there
Was surprised how decently clean it was inside considering the area , most stores are vacant... Rather sad remains of a mall.
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. The ground floor is dominated by a food court, which is quite unusual for a mall. There aren't a lot of apparel stores and the mall does not carry some of the more popular brands.
The Portage Place is in a central place and I was able to get all I wanted at the place.
I found that the mall was dirty. And unfriendly. I needed change for parking and was unable to get any. The staff at staples was not helpful in anyway.
Clean, safe place with security guards. Lots of great stores & a food court with nice variety.
This mall always had people outside asking you for cigarettes and money. And when that's not happening, there are people either trying to steal from you, or sell you recently stolen goods. There is a lot of drug deals that happen here in the front and the back. The security in the mall is questionable too, because when a problem occurs, they generally just make people aware of their presence and hope that situations naturally de escalate, instead of actually intervening for the safety of the general public. The listing poorhouse is so bad, that they had to install high frequency speakers outside as a sad attempt to keep young people from hanging around for long, which is not ideal considering there is a major bus hub literally right on front. I would give this place zero stars if it was possible. Not a safe place to be after 4 pm.
A decade ago, they had better stores. And now? I had never been to a mall and not to mention downtown which had a large amount of security personnel walking around. I rather hop on the bus and head to Polo Park.
Stitches is my to go place. Staff always friendly. Sales all the time. New arrivals daily. Fashion up to date although Needs to get more of the L or XL. SOCIETY IS NOT SO LITTLE. ARDEN'S is where i get my footwear. The placement of other items are NOT laid out properly.
Theres a lot of riff raff but the staff are really nice
Sketchy place, I dont feel safe there as I have been approached many times by either panhandlers and questionable characters. Car has been broken once in the parking lot behind portage place in the middle of winter. Nothing to see there other than a depressing place.
If you're looking for a mall shopping experience I wouldn't recommend portage place. Its great if you work downtown you'll likely find what you need here.
A nice place to do some of your shopping right from clothes to everything else. It also has a variety of restaurants in the food court serving a variety of dishes and some of these restaurants are actually good. The interior of the mall is tastefully decorated and the ambiance is also very good. All in all a pretty nice place for shopping and hangout.
I like going there. It has alot of shops inside and around the place. Alot to look at.
Pretty large mall can usually find what you need here full of all.doffernt types of stores from clothing to jewelry to food and makeup this place has everything
Good for the variety of Canada wide phone and internet services and they have a shoppers drug mart along with a shoe warehouse store to get some cheap work shoes whatever you may need the only downside upon arrival was the massive amount of homeless especially in and near the bathroom area
Small mall with a small food court. Chinese, fish and chips, A & W, Timmys, Taco Time, Thai, sushi, East Indian cuisine. Spanish (second floor) Shoppers Drugmart, Service Canada, Dolarama, Starbucks, Staples, sports clothing, back pcks store, washrooms,
They really need to get rid of food court and all the chairs. The most dangerous mall I have ever been
Love there nail place very friendly and professional
I would not recommend this mall to anyone. It is an unsightly unwelcoming place. I'm not sure how retail outlets stay open in this mall.
It's an OK place. Too many ruffians outside, and only 2 or 3 stores I'd shop at inside.
Cool place but it's still a drug stop for pill poppers an meth heads cause they wait in the back by the doors
It was good when it first open but the good stores closed down.
The place feels empty but it feels like a prison the way the security treats people just making downtown even less appealing to people
Alot of people at the food court... Food Court Staff Friendly... They made more space at Tim Horton's which is nice... Store Staff is Friendly also... Over All it was a Good Experience...
Basic food with variety of vendors, don't expect a first class dining experience.
Sketchy place. Wouldnt recommend bringing small children here. Especially in the cafeteria
Need more stores and a better selection of stores. Good place to shop as long as you know where you want to shop.
Y'all like to hate on this mall, but show me a place where you can find never-worn Holt Renfrew shoes in a dumpster.
Not a good place to shop or eat there and which the security follows you everywhere espc the Dollarama security so please don't shop there(Portage Place).
