We ordered the Alberta Beef Chili, Angry Peyto Burger and the Thai stir fry with chicken. Everything was delicious. The Thai stir fry portion was huge and was loaded with veggies. The chili was hearty and filling and the burger was satisfying with a nice kick from the jalapeños. Would come back again.

I came here once for dinner and again for lunch. I had a burger for dinner, and the soup & sandwich combo and a chili for lunch. The food was decent and the wait staff was helpful. However, on both occasions my order was slightly messed up. I asked for salad with my burger and was given fries instead (they gave me a salad as well when I mentioned it). They also forgot the cheese in my lunch sandwich, and gave it to me on the side when I was almost done. Not a big deal but it happened both times I was there...

We had the Elk Burger and the Bill Peyto Burger, and they were fantastic. I'd almost be willing to say that it was the best elk burger I've had. Fries were nice and crunchy. Plenty of room, no wait. Highly recommend.

This place is a hidden gem. Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the food is tasty, the portions are large, and the prices are reasonable. My favorite dishes are the Peyto Burger, and the Elk Burger; you cannot go wrong with either of them. Fresh toppings on the burgers, fries that are done properly, good quality meat, and buns that manage to hold their shape without getting soggy or crushed. I would also recommend the Apple Pie with Ice Cream for dessert. We have been there several times, and the food is consistently good, as is the service. The waiters are friendly, and the food does not take too long to come out. I would highly recommend this to anyone making a stop in Lake Louise.

Went here twice. First time we had the chilli poutine and fish & chips which was really good but the service was quite slow. The second time we had the caesar salad and the red curry both were a little bland. The salad had about 4 flecks of bacon and the curry didn't have much sauce but the veg was good and the service was quick.... Overall its the best place for the price in town so worth it but stick to the burgers/fish and chips.

We found this hidden gem by driving through the town. We did not want to drive in crowded Banff for a meal. They are hidden next to the hostel. Warm and super welcoming service and atmosphere. Stayed for a hearty meal—perfect place for explorers, hikers and anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere.

The staff the day my boo and I came in were lovely, and the food was so good! We both got burgers, and let me tell you:The patties are no sad little wimpy patties! As a long time vegetarian I can say it was a nice size and all the toppings were so fresh! And Honeys beef patty was easily a quarter lb! Yum! Inexpensive and lovely! Kudos. If you get the salad it is generous!

Great service, mediocre food. Eggs were over cooked (clearly to hot of a pan), with an excessive amount of cheese, and dried out potatoes. I wish I had just cooked oatmeal in my truck, but was nice to use some wifi and have a friendly waiter. A few changes to the kitchen could elevate this place to a “must stop” breakfast spot in Banff, instead of another dingy highway diner.

This place is amazing, you need to stop here for food if you’re in Lake Louise!! It’s attached to a hostel but make it even better, staff is amazing and have great recommendations for things. Breakfast, lunch and dinner Is amazing. Everyone is very friendly!!! Definitely followed covid protocols with cleaning. Love that you get a jug of water when you sit down. We got the elk burger, jerk chicken, camp breakfast, and the bill Payto burger. Taste and flavour was all there got the sweet potato fries were mouth watering good. This is a must place!! Went for early dinner at 5. The service wasn't the quickest but may have been that they were short staffed for such an early dinner. The server I had, tried his best to handle take out, other customers and myself. He was very helpful and had a good attitude. I got a burger and poutine. The poutine was good but the burger patty needed more seasoning.

We ate most of our meals here while staying at the Fairmont (and the food was better!). Friendly staff. Will return for sure whenever I’m in the area for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I unfortunately followed the good reviews here for breakfast... I'm only giving the stars for the nice and welcoming service. My tea was too thin and tasteless and my 12$ buttermilk pancakes were too thick to swallow and also very tasteless.. I really didn't enjoy my breakfast there and I couldn't eat more than one pancake out of three. My husband had the omelette and it looked ok though.

This is the best place to eat in the little village area of Lake Louise. I had the Elk burger, it was amazing! Big portions, friendly staff, free wifi. It was the only place in town that I didn’t feel like I was being ripped off for being a tourist. This restaurant is attached to a Hi Canada youth hostel, so it’s maybe a bit more geared to that, but there were lots of families and older people there too. Highly recommended.

I had Bill Peyto burger with poutine on the side. I expected this place to be overpriced since it’s in Lake Louise, but I was wrong. Prices are fair, food is great and servers are very friendly as well. Burger wasn’t anything extraordinary, but the patty was properly seasoned and juicy in the middle. Poutine was awesome. They did the gravy the right way. There was some excess gravy that would have soaked up my fries, but I put some of it for my patty and it improved my burger significantly. I’d definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

Delicious dinner spot with friendly service. After a failed attempt to eat at another Lake Louise local restaurant (very upscale restaurant), we chose Bill Peyto's and we were not disappointed. The staff was extremely kind, and all of our food was so fresh and delicious. I'm glad now that we ended up supporting a small local business rather than giving our money elsewhere.

I stayed in Lake Louise Inn but even their front desk recommended this place over their own restaurant. I ate here 3 times and the food was excellent every time. I liked the house salad you can choose with all the main dishes. The service varies by person, and some are quite friendly and will chat to you if they’re not busy.

It's worth the search. Without obvious signage I tend to shy away. Tried to find this place a few times over the years and was close, but gave up thinking it was only a hostel. Thanks to my Wife for finally figuring it out. This is easily one of the best meals in LL and yes I'm comparing it to all the meals we've had over the years at the Fairmont. I'm not going to go on gushing about it. But I can honestly say once you're there the food, drinks, and service are absolutely fan frickin tastic. The surprises don't' stop there. Once you're pleasantly full, half cut, and ready to leave the gentleman will bring your bill. It was less than half of what I expected. How often does that happen? First time for everything.

It is hidden gem, we were staying at lake Louise inn and found this spot across our inn. Bill Peyton's service was amazing and their food out of the league. One of the best poutine I had and their elk burger was so good. I would recommend anybody who visit Lake Louise to try their food and experience joy you will have when having their food.

I was hungry and this restaurant is very close to our hotel hit the spot. Nice decor very cozy looking. Our server is relaxed friendly, gave us good recommendations. Food came out pretty quick. The Burger is great. And the so called "side salad " is HUGE!!! It's almost a entree size. My husband ordered teriyaki chicken sandwich he liked it too. We also tried the desert was super good and made us satisfied and feel guilty at the same time (considering the calories ),my husband laugh at me counting calories during vacation. Great dining experience. Thank you!

Avoid if you are a person of colour! My wife and I, both POC, came here for lunch after reading the reviews. We arrived at 11:30am. We were seated and ordered within a couple of minutes. 20-25 minutes later, two white males entered and also ordered quickly. We were shocked by how long it was taking since there was only one other table in the restaurant. We chalked it up to potentially new staff. During the next thirty minutes, the white gentlemen were provided updates and were looked after on 3 occasions. No one had come to our table since we entered. At 12:25pm, the white gentlemen were provided their meals. At that time, we asked for an explanation. The waiter could not provide us with one. Considering we waited for 1 hour and didn't get any food and did not get looked after once after seating, and considering the white men got their food in 25min and were looked after on 3 occasions, I can only assume this was racially motivated. Very disappointing. We left after the hour mark without any food or apology. Disclaimer: this is the first time in my life I have claimed racial discrimination.

Matt and Cas are awesome, taking good care of everyone despite the place filling up considerably. Go for the poutine and if it's a tie between coffee and tea - the Bourbon Street Rooibos heats you up real quick after a day of hiking. Stopped by here on the way back from Lake Louise. Wasn't expecting much as the place was attached to a Hostel. Staff are extremely nice and patient. Food came out and was tasty. Ordered 1 Bill Peyto Burger and 1 angry Peyto burger. The angry Peyto burger wasn't really spicy as the menu made it out to be. However the fries were good and the slaw was tasty. Overall a good place to stop in for some cheap tasty eats.

We ate here today and were so impressed. The breakfast we both had was $11 and massive (2 eggs, toast, 3 sausages, and half a plate of hashbrowns). Our server was acting as host and server, meeting everyone at the door and asking Covid protocol questions while serving a busy dining room. We never waited once for anything, our server was attentive and I am honestly amazed by how he juggled it all! Not to mention the amazing value for such delicious food!! Cannot recommend enough!

Great cafe in the heart of Lake Louise village. When you visit touristy places like Lake Louise/Banff, you expect many of the restaurants to be tourist traps serving up mediocre food at astronomical prices, but we found Bill Peyto's Cafe to have excellent food and reasonable prices, a wonderful surprise! We're staying in Lake Louise for 3 days and have eaten all of our dine-out meals there so far, and plan on going back again tomorrow evening. We ordered the jerk chicken burger and mushroom bacon pasta the first night (both delicious; lovely sweet and spicy glaze on the burger, and pasta was creamy and super satisfying after a long hike) and the second night husband got the butter chicken and I ordered the red coconut curry with chicken, both well cooked and flavoured, and the butter chicken especially was amazing (large chunks of chicken and tender/juicy). Keep up the great work!

Our family of 6 came upon this place after trying a couple other places that were either too expensive or too busy. Wish we had of gone here first. We had a French couple serving us and they were so amazing. We had family with us from Quebec and it was a really nice touch to our trip. The food was amazing and the prices almost seemed too cheap. Was here for dinner last night and forgot to take photos... Brunch was great! Got the 2 peytos grand slams and an order of pancakes. Everything was cooked to perfection except we didn't like the ham... The bacon was nice and crispy and eggs were super tasty too. The pancakes had powdered sugar and the maple syrup appears to be the actual maple syrup, not the fake aunt Jemima corn syrup. Would come back again in the future!

Great cafe. Came here on Sunday night for a late dinner. Our server was fantastic. He was polite, courteous, professional and I swear he was even able to read our minds. We had a burger, clam chowder soup, and sweet potato fries, all of which were delicious. Price was also pretty good for where they are located. I had thought that being located in the Lake Louise Village area that there'd be a "tourist attraction" bonus on all the prices, but not at all. With covid 19, your are subjected to an interview before entering, and the tables and chairs are all meticulously wiped down. I'd come back for sure.

Amazing service! Both server and cook worked their butts off to a very full dinning room. The aroma from the bustling kitchen was to die for!! We ordered the butter chicken and Mac & Cheese. Hands down, both meals were excellent, well presented and full of flavour!! Our server was very attentive, hospitable and engaging with all customers. I would say this is a must for dining when visiting Lake Louise! :)

I normally stop here for a meal when driving past Lake Louise. It's in the Alpine club / Youth hostel so it's an outdoorsy crowd. Food is basic hearty comfort food compatible with hikers. I'm a big fan of this facility.

Been here multiple times over the past year. Always loved their salmon pasta and sweet potato fries. Today, we arrived into lake louise after a 700+ km drive from Vancouver late at night, but when the cafe was open. Tired, wanted to check in and freshen up before eating. Asked for dinner to be packed/take out. Apparently they have a policy to not do take-outs after 6:30 pm for whatever twisted reason. That to me is unacceptable. If you have an open kitchen, it should NOT matter if you eat in or take out. There is virtually no freaking reason one cannot take out food from your restaurant. There are very few options to eat in Lake louise and most of them are not good. Highly disappointed in your customer service. Will never return.

This place has good vibes. I got a veggie burger, which seemed like a frozen grocery burger and not restaurant made, but I don't know for sure. It was still good and they covered it in jalapenos and it was nicely spicy. My companion had the elk burger and said it was delicious. Friendly, warm staff.

What a wonderful hidden gem in Lake Louise! We went here two times, we enjoyed the food so much the first time we went again the next day. The Cafe is not very well advertised (we didn't see any road signs or anything that would indicate that the restaurant was here), so just know that it is in the Hi Canada hostel. The food here is very reasonably priced compared to other options in Lake Louise, and the portions were large, perfect after a long hike. We ordered the following: - Alpine clubhouse sandwich: our personal favorite, and also massive. Can easily be shared among two people (or one person with a huge appetite). - Elk burger - Battered cod - Alberta beef chili Everything except for the beef chili comes with a side, with one of the options being a salad. This was really nice as sometimes it's hard getting some greens in during vacation. Staff was very nice both times and food was prompt (we did go during slower times, around 1-3pm). Overall, would highly recommend!

Only if there was a zero star. Seeing discrimination in a cafe in Canada for the first time! I usually post very positive comments and reviews. I was so optimistic about this place and I thought this would be a great place to eat as we were staying at the hi hostel. The cafe refused to serve us. The first waiter refused to talk to us and just called the other waiter. The second waiter said they have no place for us and we have to order pick ups. They did this while they accommodated other people (with no reservations in advance) right after we placed a pick up order. When I brought up the issue nicely with the servant she was so rude and said it is what it is! She did not care and she did not even offer a single apology! So disappointed and sad to see such behaviour. Our “good” mood for the beautiful Lake Louise was ruined for no reason …

The price is very reasonable in comparison to other spots around town, and although the dining area is small, the staff are quick! I work as a hiking guide in the area, and I often recommend this spot for them to go. The food is just too good!

After hearing that this is where locals go for a casual meal, we decided to walk there for lunch from the Lake Louise Campground. We all enjoyed our meals. The side salad was perfect: fresh mixed baby greens with tomatoes, cucumber, and grated carrots on top. It came with a 3” piece of baguette with butter. The poutine was not remarkable: cheese wasn’t at all melted, the gravy was fine but nothing special in flavor, and there was so much gravy it was like French fry stew. The elk burger was good. The chicken fingers are what you’d expect. The split pea soup tasted homemade - truly delicious! The roast beef sandwich came on white bread (not sure if there was a choice) and my brother-in-law loved it. The fries were very tasty. The IPA (sorry, I don’t remember which one) had a lovely fresh hop aroma and a fair level of bitterness — delicious. We all enjoyed our meals. It’s a short walk between the restaurant and Samson Mall (the shopping area with the Info Centre). But Google Maps doesn’t know the shortcut for walking. From the grassy area in front of the restaurant’s front doors take a path toward the large red-roofed buildings (hotel?) next door. Walk through their parking lot to the right and take the pedestrian bridges across the Pipestone River. You will be behind the market in the Samson Mall. If you are walking around the area using Google Maps, you might get confused as we were because Google doesn’t show the Pipestone River and it’s bridges. We kept thinking the river was the Bow River which meets the Pipestone behind the Mall. The restaurant is part of a hostel and they gave me a walking map that I’ve included in the pics.

Nice rustic environment with free parking; however, the service is a bit rough around the edges. We asked if they had Wifi when we came in (we had to book our hotel for the night), and they told us yes, but that we'd have to keep our stay short. I suppose this would be fair if the restaurant were busy, but there was no one at all in the establishment. It rubbed us the wrong way and we ended up eating somewhere else. The waitress was friendly; I think it's just poor management.

Went here on a winter day. We were so hungry and was looking for an affordable place to eat. Because of covid not many are open. I am so glad that this one is open and so we had to try. They are following strict rules for covid which is nice. And lets not forget the food they serve. I was skeptical at first because of the pictures I saw on google. BUT, oh my god I was wrong. The pictures do not justify the food. The taste is great. We ordered Elk Burger, one of their best selling burger, and Chicken Bacon Mushroom Fettuccine which is also tasty and meaty and served witht he right ingredients. And for dessert we had Toffee pudding matched with coffee to warm our selves before heading out in the cold. The experience was just very relaxing! We were sitting close to the fireplace while watching then snow fall on a sunset. Will never forget this place. I highly recommend!

It was good. Didn’t blow my mind. I went in a group of four after skiing. Dinner. I got the worst thing out of the four of us. I ordered the Italian poutine. It was good. The sauce was homemade. And it was awesome. Carrots, ground beef. A lot like the sauce I make. But there was too little sauce for too many fries. The key to poutine, I’ve found, is lots of sauce. Poutine was like US$9. My wife ordered the smoked salmon fettuccine Alfredo. It was awesome. And I usually turn my nose up at Alfredo. Smoke salmon was a unique flair. I would recommend it. Also ordered was the Fish and chips- excellent, better than most — and the burger— nice and juicy. The waiter was quirky in a good way. Honestly, the best place and biggest reason to go there was the story about the namesake — mountain man Bill Peyto — on the menu.

From quick research, the only reasonable priced spot with a solid selection of items. I had the fish n chips, cod was surprisingly fresh (no weird odour and quite flaky) but a little small. And the fries were not crispy. Ran it back the next day and had their smoked salmon alfredo, that was a solid dish, however a little small! I had to wait around 40 minutes to get seated the second day, but they were busy and didnt take a waitlist as opposed to the day before. Overall solid spot, would give 4.5 if it was possible!

My worst take-out experience EVER! Can’t imagine how could they mess up my order TWICE! I ordered a burger and a fish-n-chips. The first time, they gave me two burgers. When I went back to them, the receptionist just opened the box and flipped the burger bun with her BARE FINGERS to check the order!!! I thought they would make me a new one so I said nothing. But when I opened the new container they gave to me, the first thing I saw was two finger-marks on my bun????I also asked for chipotle mayo instead of the regular Mayo on my burger. After checking with me TWICE, they still gave me the regular Mayo????In terms of food, the fish-n-chips is super greasy, and they clearly just assemble all store-bought ingredients for the burger. I can't understand where is the 4.4 google rating comes from. But I’ll never come back again for sure.

This may just be the best place to eat in town! Although it is located in a high end hostel and has limited capacity (had a 30 min waiting line most of the evening), the staff was friendly, the place was clean, prices were reasonable and the food was great. This isn't your high end gourmet food, but just good tasting regular food that will fill you up and leave you satisfied after a long hike.

I love breakfast, I go out to restaurants almost only for breakfast. I had very little expectations going in as it's a small hard to find place but... Wow was I wrong! The waitress took our drink and food order at the same time, we got our coffee and boom the food arrived right away, hot and fresh and perfect... Like hot and fresh, almost too hot to eat it was that fresh... And it was great... If you put some effort into finding this little gem, you won't be disappointed.

The place is also quite clean and well kept-something that is very important nowadays. My only gripe would be the lack of signage which made it hard to look for the resto. Otherwise, food was really good. I'd definitely recommend the place.

Attached to the hostel, Bill Peyto's is an impressive little unassuming cafe. It looks kind of basic on the outside, and the inside to a certain extent, but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was fantastic, super friendly and helpful and professional. On top of that, the food was wonderful. I got the quesadilla as my entree, it was delicious. I mean, it's not exactly daring or creative, but it's very well assembled and cooked and presented. I'd recommend it. That goes the same for the burger my partner ordered. Complete with fries, he very much enjoyed it. Kind of a perfect simple lunch between other more grand meals. Get away from the crowds at Lake Louise for a moment and enjoy a pleasant and delicious meal here!

This place is AMAZING! highly recommend going here if you’re in the area. The food is outstanding as is the service. We had fish and chips (crispy and cooked to a golden brown perfection), sweet potato fries, sticky toffee pudding cake (probably the best I have had in a while) and vanilla ice cream (legit out of this world delicious ice cream). The server was very friendly and accommodating. I still dream about that food weeks later.

Bill Peyto's is a wonderful dining option in the Village. Quality food, reasonable prices, lovely rustic ambiance, and friendly staff. We came here first for dinner, really enjoying the elk burger and chili, and liked it well enough to come back for a hearty breakfast another day. I was very pleasantly surprised by the nice timber framed building where the cafe is located. This is a great place to get away from the crowds in the area. The origami hopping frog presented to us by our waiter at breakfast was the icing on the cake.

On the way out, my husband asked one of the servers why we were not seated or even acknowledged, and the server was very rude and said he was busy and what was our problem. Apparently the problem is the snotty kids working there. Food looked wonderful, oh well. Ended up at Mountain House with excellent service, great food, good selection. This was in September. Finally calmed down enough to review.

Had the Elk Burger here. It was very well cooked and a bit tough, but quite tasty. The sweet potato fries were crazy good though. Maybe the best I've ever had. The interior is not fancy but they make up for it with great food. Staff were very friendly and seated us quickly. Couldn't find any parking at the hostel. So had to park a bit further away. Not sure if I was allowed to park in the hostel spots if I'm just visiting the cafe.

Undoubtedly the best place to eat in Lake Louise. Let's face it, LL doesn't have a lot to offer unless you want to pay mega bucks. Bill Peyto's manages to combine excellent food at a reasonable price. No booking required. We visited in Oct, it was full but the busy and efficient staff managed to get us in after a 5 minute wait. Oh, BTW look up Bill Peyto, he was a fascinating character.

TL;DR Food and service was great. Auto gratuity on takeout is not acceptable. Stopped by this place twice with a large party when I was in Banff. The first time was great. We had a dine-in. The food was tasty and the service was great. I appreciated that the staff mentioning that group larger than 6 would get 15% automatic gratuity on the bill. I gladly tipped 18% for the friendly service. We returned for a second time a few days later. Since all their tables were taken, this time was a takeout. It was not so pleasant of an experience. We assumed the automatic tipping doesn't apply to takeout as tipping traditionally is for good services, but there's bare minimum services involved in a takeout. We were proven wrong when we were given the bill. Applying auto gratuity on takeout is neither cool nor customary even in NA. If you are ordering takeout with a large group, make sure you visit this place as groups smaller than 6. So at least you get the freedom to decide how much you want to tip.

Came here on a Monday evening, place was full, however the service was excellent and wait time was quick. We had a IPA, chicken noodle soup, chilli and butter chicken. The butter chicken was so delicious, I really polished it off. It came with nan bread. The soup and chili were comforting. Nice cozy decor as well. I would go back again!

The chicken bacon mushroom Alfredo was absolutely to die for. Such tender and flavorful chicken and the sauce was so good. I didn't necessarily expect to have one of the better pastas I've had in recent memory at a small diner in Lake Louise, and it was a fantastic surprise!

Bill Peyto's Cafe is our go-to restaurant when we're in the area. The food is always satisfying at a good price. Relaxed, casual atmosphere. If you look around, it is very common to see a huge mix of clientele. From families with small kids, to couples on dates, to friends just coming off the hill and still in their winter gear.
