Where else can you find amazing local bands, a 1920's-themed evening, and a 90's rap night? Swan Dive, my babies. Not only does it have great ambiance, (tons of room for hanging out, too) it now shares a back yard with Barbarella, which allows you to time-hop as much as you'd like.

Exotic events aside, pen this place into your Tuesday night's itinerary - nothing tops karaoke on a stage. Stick till the end for performances enhanced by liquid courage. Excellent atmosphere and as pretty much every other review has stated, the decor is pretty kickin'. Lastly, praise be to the backyard connection to good ole Barbs.

We have played music at Swan Dive many times- and when it’s a party, it’s a party. Lots of good acts come through. Large bar in the back. The room is all white, and has a few rounded booths. The sound system and lights are good. The outside area in the back also sometimes has music and connects with the dance club, Barbarella.

Here's the thing about swan dive - since it connects to barbarellas in the back, that is where you will want to enter if you are trying to get into either place. The line is usually shorter and the cover us the same ($5 after 11pm - cash only) the bouncers are way nicer than the ones at barbs (the bouncers at barbs are RUDE) and the drinks seem a bit cheaper than at barbs too unless it's happy hour at barbs. I've never been to swan dive where there wasn't some cool indie band playing.

0 stars if I could! I had a TERRIBLE experience here. I walked in trying to enjoy the live music and two seconds into the bar I get kicked out. Apparently, I attempted to “sneak in.” In reality, I did not notice the guy charging the cover fee. I walked in, saw the band, and made my way to the bar. I was immediately asked to leave and on top of that the bartender screamed at me yelling insults including “dumbass”. When I asked why he was kicking me his aggression only got worse. To top it off, he called the bartender next door at Barbarella’s and told him not to let me in. My friends and I were just trying to enjoy our night and meant no harm or had no malicious intention. Yet we were treated horribly by these establishments. I even went to apologize to the bouncer (who cursed ME out) and he refused to hear me out. I get that people try to take advantage of certain situations, but that WAS NOT our intention. I don’t plan on returning to these places and I will NOT recommended the Swan Dive or Barbarella’s to people I know.

Not sure why Google maps has this place as permanently closed, it is still open and has live music almost every night they are open. Great venue, have drink social on their chalk board all night that are decently priced, & the staff is friendly if you know how to act at a bar.

Dark with white furnishings. Bar in the back. Stage in the front. Cute upscale vintage feel but small enough to be divey. BEST on days with live music. LOVE live jazz nights :) Some nights you have to pay cover. Other nights you don't.

I intended to go to Swan Dive to support my friends in a local band. But for some reason I couldn't get in because the doormen said I was too drunk, even though I haven't had a drop tonight. You couldn't get me in a bar unless it was to see a band I knew so me being barred from entry is almost comical. I realize swan dive has the right to refuse service but this is just money lost on their part and time wasted on mine.

At the Swan Dive, exotic events abound, spurred on by a fairly gypsy-esque crowd. Accordion players to shadow puppet shows to aerial performances. Though the inside decor is bare, the drink menu is fancy-scmancy when compared with other venues in the vicinity, though, of course, they carry Lone Star. I hear from reliable sources that their monthly Vintage Vivant is the place to be.

I have only been to austin a few times and there really has been no other bartender who was this tentative. She was swamped with people and still apologetic, even though the crowd of customers were clearly out numbering the bar by far. She was sweet to every customer next to me as well. As a fellow bartender from the woodlands I totally understand. Either way, she made my experience in austin way better than ever before. Swan dive in general is a fun place!

Terrible experience. The doorman and manager were incredibly rude. Refused service due to my paper ID. The ID was legitimate from the DMV. I had not be refused anywhere else. The tone and aggression used was ridiculous and I definitely look well over 21 because I am. If they are SO concerned about liability - trust me if a cop came in to check IDs they can look up my paper ID and see that it’s valid. What a joke. At least if you have that rule - be prepared to have a better answer and don’t be so incredibly rude about it because I will never come there again.

I really like this place. They always have good bands with a cheap cover, aren't ever too crowded, and have tables to sit at, which is really nice. It's a really laidback atmosphere and the bartenders are friendly. The drinks are a little bit more expensive here than other similar bars, but it's still a good time.
