We have property in the greater Charleston area and were in need of a locksmith to change the locks. The dynamics of the situation with previous tenants still on property packing up presents a bit of awkwardness for anyone just doing a job. We were met by Jamelle who was absolutely fantastic. Last night I called a locksmith to help get me in my home around 6:30pm. For 2 hours the tech fumbled with 2 different locks. First he said my front door know was too new. So we went to the garage, that deadbolt is 30 years old and he couldn't unlock that one either. So after 2 hours his solution he thought was to drill out my deadbolt in my garage and not offer to replace the deadbolt at their cost. So $105 for service not provided, sleep with my door unlocked all night and mess up my deadbolt that has to be replaced at my cost? Horrible outcome. I even asked "That is the best you guys can do as a company and that is the stance you take in your profession that failed to provide a service" He said "yes" and he walked away got in his truck and drove off. I will never reach out to this company again! If I ever needed a locksmith I would have a better chance of getting my own kit from Home depot and if that doesn't work I can always drill out my deadbolt and just replace it at my cost!!!

On Thanksgiving I was visiting Charleston, SC to see my family. I lost the keys to my 2006 Nissan Maxima, I do realize its a holiday so I called around, you would not believe the outrageous prices I was quoted until I called Ready Locksmith. Upon moving into our new home, I did research for locksmiths. They gave me a quote, then a new quote when I had to change details, and so on, but were very patient. On the day I called to schedule, they got someone out here the same day and he even managed to come by early to re-pin all my locks. The employee, Deshaun, really went above and beyond, not only dealing with keys without locks (for which they've got a slightly higher prices than rekeying locks where you have the keys), but also taking apart the one lock in order to re-pin it (as the previous owners had damaged the lock). He quiet, respectful and informative. They even do electronic receipts and take credit cards when doing the work at your site.

Let's start from the beginning. I bought a business located in Goose Creek SC one year ago, from an elderly gentleman who wasn't present in the business. I called Ready Locksmith out to address what I believed to be (as communicated on the initial call) a faulty spring in the front door lock. The dispatcher and tech were the same person, and said they would be out that afternoon, which they were. I gave them onsite contacts, who could show them the problem, as I own three other similar businesses in the area, and wouldn't be available. The tech arrived (after I learned later) around 1pm, and I didn't receive another phone call until 6:30 when the business was closing from the tech. At which time he told me that it wasn't the door lock at all, it was the hinges, door tension device, and adjustment of the front door causing the problem. He and his help spent 6 hours on-sight, and the total was $880.76. When I brought it to his attention that this was never agreed upon service, price, or otherwise, the owner of the company said he had worked with a guy at my business who showed him what he thought was wrong with the door. I informed the owner/tech that the "guy" was my 17 year old high school helper, and was not even the on-sight contact given. Nor was a formal quote ever provided to anyone prior to him taking it upon himself to perform services that I didn't call about, and request nearly $1k in payment. After which he said he's never ran into a problem like this in the past- "normally I just show up, and people pay me to fix the problem". He also said "you must be a new owner, I used to work with an older guy". He said his hourly rate was $170/hr. which included parts used "to reduce tax". I called a friend who owns a door installation company, and the going industry rate he said is $70 per man hour. Including parts in there makes no sense from a business perspective. When asked for an itemization of the work performed, I showed the list to my friend, who said that the work shouldn't have taken more than a couple of hours. However the owner/tech claims that the poor maintenance of the door and rust elongated the total time for the job. Apparently drilling three Tapcons into the threshold took 1 hour of labor at $170/hr. In the end the owner agreed to accept $440, and said he was losing money on the deal. When I compared the incident to "dropping your car off to have the transmission looked at, only to pick the car up with a $2k bill for fixing your window motors without approval", he said they were completely different industries, the simile was not comparable, and he's never had an instance like this happen since he's been in business. If this has never happened to him in business, I hope he learns proper business etiquette soon. From the outside perspective, I believe he was attempting to swindle the older gentleman like he perhaps had done in the past, not knowing I had purchased the business. The entire transaction from a business regard was unprofessional, and borderline unethical. Not to call and inform the financially responsible party of an estimate before performing repairs, refusing to bill me after performing the work so I can assess the repair, and demanded immediate payment while I was offsite, not working with an established onsite contact, etc. I understand there are many positive reviews for this company, and I'm not the "reviewing" type, but this transaction with this company was abysmal.

The technician called, and communicated that he’d arrive in 15 minutes. He arrived in roughly 10 minutes and went straight to work. He was very quick, professional, and a bit comical.
