I have been looking for a locksmith to help create a key for my car. Both of my flipout car key/keyfob combos had fallen apart. I was stuck using a nub of a key and a pair of pliers to start my car. Not one locksmith in Columbus would touch this job. Kia wanted $250 per key to replace them. I brought my key (key nub) to Bakers, they had me in and out in no time. Two new keys for $20. I will admit I did get standard keys, not replacement fobs. But that is exactly what I wanted. Worth the drive, and I will use them for future jobs.

They were able to make a key for a lock that had no key and no chance of getting a copy from the factory. This was on the fork lock of an Indian Chief. Took several hours but he stuck with it. This place is alright if you are in a pinch for keys. to be honest they are one of the few locksmiths in the city so you really have no other choice. They know this, and capitalize on it.. The customer service here is really lacking. I brought in my own key fobs to get cut for my car. Let's start with the cut. I can only categorize it as shoddy. Multiple corrections had to be made in order for my keys to work. I know this isn't an easy task, and maybe it had to do with my vehicle make and model complicating things, but it shouldn't take multiple trips to get my keys to work. The guy behind the desk should have verified they were working before telling me I'm good to go, and walking away. Another point of contention would be that they didn't even ask to get in my car. They guy working in the back just hopped in without permission and programmed the keys. I would have liked to be present. the reason was because my make and model didn't even require them to program it....it's just that the programming has to be timed just right, if not it won't work. Very shady. If I spent another 10 minutes haggling with it I could have made it work. Secondly, an issue with my fobs resulted in the trunk not popping when actuating the button. This may be a faulty fob or car or programming. I'm not sure. I asked if we could remove the transponder from a new fob ( that I was willing to purchase ) and place it in the already cut key to save money. Bakers buys my uncut key fobs for 30 bucks, and sells them for 90. Since I already paid for the programming, I thought I could buy the fob online ( or through bakers if they wouldn't price gouge the price of the fob ) , swap them out, reprogram, and be good to go. But the "gentleman" helping me said he would charge me another programming fee on top of the the one I already paid. Really ? After that I was done doing business with them. I already had well over 100 dollars invested. And they wanted to have me buy two new fobs at 90 a pop, along with another 60 dollar programming fee ( which accounts for about 3 minutes of "work"....I use the term work loosely. ) if they had any ounce of actual customer service they would have allowed me to come back after purchasing my own fobs, swap out the transponders, and just reprogram it. This would account for about 3-5 minutes of additional work down the road for them. And now, here I am, an aggravated customer writing a review on how they handled our dealings. I'll be telling friends and family to stay away from here. As of now I have two semi operational keys with shoddy cuts....not impressed. Should have just paid the dealership. Edit: the key fob I brought in is the same material as the OEM, you can check the specifications yourself. If this is such a problem I'm not really sure why you advertise customers bringing in their own uncut fobs. Especially with the shoddy work you did on it. Just by looking at the cut key you can tell your tools are dull and need replaced. Your discounted rate was still in line with what you charge people on an average day of business, as confirmed by several other customers who have dealt with you in the past. Believe me, the work you did was worth far less than what I paid, and was by no stretch of the imagination "a deal" . Besides that, I never even asked for a "discount"... you just offered a different rate based on an off comment I made about price comparisons between different cuts of keys....which means you pretty much make up a number that centers around baseline profit margins and try to extort more depending on the customer. Right to repair anyone?

My Mom locked herself out of the house on New Years Day. I called and left a message. Not sure if Bakers was open I also called another company. When Baker called back I told them I already had someone. He asked if I went through an 800 number and they dispatched another company. I had. He gave me warning of their practice so I cancelled with that company, as well as with the guy they were sending. Lo and behold that guy still showed up. We thought it was Bakers until the Baker van pulled up. I asked they other guy why he was there. I told him we cancelled. He was trying to RIP us off, just like Bakers warned!!. Bakers opened the door in two seconds. The other guy was doing everything Bakers warned us about. I will always use Bakers and recommend them. They are professional and honest. Bakers is always great. I have a 99 Grand Am that I rebuilt the engine in and it sat for a few years while I got it done and back together. I totaled my other car so it was time to get the Grand Am back on the road. All our keys were lost except one. Dealer wanted $70 a key. I found out I have Pass lock 2 so the keys have no chip in them, it's in the lock cylinder itself, so there is nothing to program. And even if there way I have a GM Tech II so I can program them. I got blanks from another dealer for $13 a piece and Bakers copied them for $10. We are so blessed to have a place like Bakers in Springfield.
