I have had two experiences with Royal Lock & Key. The first one I simply wanted to order 9 tool-box locks (cam locks) and have them all keyed the same so that 1 key would open everything. This is a simple enough order, but due to a complete lack of organization and interest it took WEEKS to make it happen. It involved multiple phone calls with the person on the other end never knowing who I was or what I wanted, 3 drop-ins to sort it out, and in the end the owner just drove over to their supplier, picked some up, re-keyed them and had them to me the next day, with no discount. The fact that I had to wait over a month for something they could have had done the next day was ridiculous, and yet the other day I decided to give them a second chance: This time I needed a new commercial deadbolt for my shop, a new locking knob for my shed, and just a regular door-knob. The girl who helped me made a copy of my key so that they could re-key them to match my other locks, wrote my name on a scrap of paper, and put it all on a counter somewhere. They had my locks ready later that day, I went to pick them up but didn't test them there since they were closing, brought them home and put them aside to install later. When I went to install them I found that my key didn't work in them. The key they used to set up the locks was a completely different key! When I brought them back and explained the situation I finally received some decent customer service from the guy who promptly returned my money, seemed legitimately concerned about the problem, and even called the girl who helped me to the front who promptly denied knowledge of anything and then when I said yes, she is who I dealt with admitted knowledge and just shrugged it off. I drove down the street to Lock Solid, they gave me exactly what I wanted, while I waited, and were courteous. In my experience the only thing that anyone from Royal Lock and Key did right was apologize for their lousy service and ridiculous mistake. Apparently they should stick to hair-cuts and leave the locksmith business to someone who cares and actually knows what they are doing.

This guy knows what he is doing. I had an old car for which the trunk key was not working, and I spent days searching here and there for a solution. Some thugs quoted over hundred dollar, obviously not feasible for a 2000 Toyota echo. Then he solved my problem in less than 5 minutes, and charged just 5 dollar for the key. I would definitely recommend this shop for any car key issue.

Very good experience with these guys. I got referred to them after the 1st two locksmiths I called were booked up on a Friday before a long weekend with a holiday Monday. They initially quoted me for a cost lower than the other two. I requested that I get a call 40 minutes prior to when they would be available so that I could get home from work. I left early anyway, got the call, and the guy was still able to beat my to my house so I had no down time. After explaining that I had smart locks and they'd have to permanently damage the lock on my house if he picked it, I explored other options of getting in (i.e. windows). The guy was patient and even helped boost me up to a window that was left open, including lending his step stool. After all was said and done after around 15 minutes, I was in. He told me that since he did no picking, he could charge me a bit less than half the quote which I gladly took up. He also cut 2 free keys for me on the spot. 7/7 would use again

This could cost me up to $400 but Barry got it fixed for less than $150. 100% recommend this company to you and this was my first service with them. Royal's staff went in to the shop, worked with me to find me what I needed, and went truly above and beyond what I would consider to be good customer service - this was AMAZING. So I went to Canadian Tire to have some keys cut for my trailer. 8 out of 10 of them didn't work very well or didn't work at all :-( I find these guys on line and see some good reviews so I gave it a try and got one set cut. Go home and they all worked great first try. So I went back the next day and got all my sets done including a few extra keys for the cabin. "All" of them worked first try....again! Very friendly service and fun bunch. I'll never do the big box store key cutting again, even if Royal Lock is a little further away it's worth the trip to save yourself some aggravation. There's just too much of that in the world today!

Normally I would go to a can tire to get a key cut but I decided to just Google search for a place near me at the time. It was a good decision. The guy there was very friendly and polite and helpful. I got a free pen and key thingy and that it may not be much but it was a nice offer. Price was good, of course, and they cut my key in just a few moments. The fellow there even came out to my car to make sure it was done right. Good service is priceless. Its not often I need to cut keys but if I do, I'll definitely be going back there for sure.

Think about it: Do you want to go where there's a locksmith with 47 years at the same location and more years than that experience with locks and keys, or do you want to take a chance at a big-box store with a clerk with ??? weeks experience? A no brainer for me, and Al at Royal has NEVER failed to solve my key problem in all the years I've gone to him. No one else I approached could cut an extra Canada Post Community Mail Box key because of a security notch----- Al cut me two in less than two minutes, and they work perfectly. Thanks once again Al!

I had replaced an ignition on my 07 GSX-R and needed a locksmith to re-key my gas cap lock and cowl lock to match the new ignition key. They accidentally quoted me a much lower rate than I should have paid and after realizing this they still honored the original quote! Their customer service and speed were simply fantastic. The doors to my car were all locked, and when I called Royal Lock and Key they came within 15 minutes (keep in mind it was across the city and winter) so time was important. I send all my customers over here as I have had my van chip keys cut here with no problems. Never have received negative complaints from said clients, and my van (previously had to wiggle the key for 5 minutes before finding where it buckles) now starts with no frustration. I read the negative reviews, seems like any other business: If you go to get you engine rebuilt with a bunch of custom specs and different things to take into account chances are it will not be done promptly. They are a busy establishment and they dont have time for same day dedicated service for 9 different locks with different keys and a whiny customer. 5 stars guys.

If you are needing some specialized knowledge or a part you can't get at a big box store, give Brett a call. I predict he will go above and beyond to help you, and will exceed your expectations, because that is what he did for me. He drove back to his shop after closing on a Saturday, with his young son, and opened up so I could get the specialized doorknob assembly I needed that could not wait and that I could not find in any of the big hardware stores. Very competitive price as well. Being from Fort McMurray, I am not used to this level of service. I will go out of my way to give Royal Lock and Key any business I can in the future.

Royal told me the price $94.50 to open a locked out house. I think the price was still high. But at least he was consistent with quote and the bill. The guy was professional finished the job in 3 mins total. (The first two in google search quoted less over phone and charged me more, so I sent back one guy who quoted $50 and try to charge me $120).

Previously this company was a 5 ☆ business but with ownership, personnel and location changes, it has slid to the negative. Be cautious if visiting the store as there is usually no locksmiths present and the lady at the desk has trouble cutting keys and has put the customer in second place behind her personal calls, meal breaks, etc. on multiple occasions. Pricing is still quite competitive .
