Very friendly and considerate, however when I was applying for a loan, I wasn’t told that the store wasn’t doing the loan, that it was actually someone else that approves or denies loans. Where is my info being sent too? Considering that info is private. Who else is looking at it. Very sketchy. And you’re not dealing with anyone in the office, you’re made to wait in the store area. Very unprofessional. I didn’t see anything from them about the borrowing act. “Do NOT get a loan from them”.

This is a really great pawn shop , it’s actually tied for first in my mind ( alongside international hockey exchange Herongate ) as the best pawn shop in Ottawa for many reasons..... I’m not a first time customer or new to the “pawn shop “ game , I’ve bought from this location approximately a dozen times in the last 3 years and I’ve always been extremely satisfied, always electronics and games. The staff are very friendly, professional and highly competent. they’re not large men who look like ex cons covered in tattoos wearing 6 gold rings like some of the other Howard’s in Ottawa ( I can name 4 right now lol). It’s not really the “typical” Howard’s pawn shop experience that you get at the dozen other locations around Ottawa. Maybe that’s why it’s also called Mr.Gold. That’s how I refer to it. What I mean by typical is the staff are in no way aggressive, rude or prone to raising their voice or imploring profanity during negotiation — as some other Howard’s do.— they also don’t disrespect your items and sell it for 10x more the next day. These are the reasons why it is unlike any other Howard’s in Ottawa : 1) extremely fair negotiation on games completely outperforming amazon in my opinion. Prices are also up to date, they don’t have 8 year old prices on old games trying to cheat you like many many other places. 2) this is not a sexist comment, but the staff and I believe owner are made up of more women than your typical pawn shop. They also know much more about games, retro and new, western and Japanese , common and obscure , than many other male run pawn shops in Ottawa lol 3) they aren’t just very nice in person but also on the phone, they will quickly and accurately look up even obscure games much akin to calling microplay but paying a fraction of the price. . I believe the owner has extensive experience in running not only a small business but a pawn shop in particular. I’ve seen on two occasions the staff and management act very kindly and patiently towards a special needs customer who was having difficulty communicating. And they handled it like I’m sure few other pawn shops in Ottawa could have. They give great deals all the time, every month, every year. Especially if you buy multiple games , multiple tools, multiple consoles , etc and for those people who are particularly pandemic conscious they were the only pawn shop in Ottawa with forehead laser thermometers at the start of the pandemic lol. They are very health protocol conscious for those of you who worry about buying used items. In many ways , from the kindness to all different types of customers , to the constant new inventory of old gems, to the fair polite and competitive negotiation , you can tell this business is run with care, probably a woman lol that would really explain a lot. Only criticism I have is actually the structural layout of the building in regards to the parking and intersection. But ofcourse the owners aren’t the architects who built the building a century ago, simply the tenants so I can hardly blame them for that hahah. Go here you won’t regret it, I never have. And if mr.gold doesn’t have what your looking for check out international hockey exchange Herongate. Those are the only two pawn shops that are impeccable by every metric consistently.
