Local services have shrunk, many locals have lost their jobs as a result of a round of mergers and customer service is now just a memory. Decisions are all made 400+ km away in Sudbury. Background: They have gone through 2 mergers in the last few years, and are now part of the Caisse Populaire Les Voyageurs in Sudbury. Being part of a credit union that covers most of Northern Ontario defeats the purpose of a credit union - being community driven and responsive to the needs of the local residents. There is currently no advantage (or reason) for banking with them as opposed to a federally regulated bank. Alphonse Desjardins must be spinning in his grave knowing how his ideals for local francophone credit unions have been twisted in the hands of the former boards of directors who just wanted to be fishes in a bigger pond.
