The store itself is spacious and inviting, a surprise based on the rather lackluster exterior appearance. rather like stepping back in time to an earlier era when most jewelry stores were large and elegant. We went in to sell some gold and silver items that had surfaced after a recent move, a lot of things belonging to my mom that I no longer need. Most were unsaleable silver as plated rather than sterling, in spite of their age.We were able to sell a few jewelry items though. Hard to know if prices were fair, I guess that comes down to the overall impression of any company you interact with. Hopefully we weren't ripped off. There was an older lady at front of store ( don't have her name) who was very friendly. Other than that, there was no one else who made a memorable impression. I had a long time, absolutely wonderful jeweler back in Regina who is always there in mind, by comparison. Perhaps it's too much to expect nowadays, but he made the whole world of gems, precious metals, jewelry making...a fascinating topic. I miss that. I didn't get that friendly vibe overall from this shop but we got done what we went there for, nothing more.

I’m sure that this place does amazing quality work but I feel that they might over estimate the value of their labour particularly when it comes to straight forward jobs. My gold earring had a broken clasp and I was told it would be around $100...”probably not worth fixing because I could buy a new pair”. Not an option as these have sentimental value. I got estimates at 3 other places for $50 and another just around the corner for $20. Decided to take a chance on the latter and he did a fantastic job, only one day turn around and they are as good as new. So moral of the story... always good to get a second or third opinion!

Went to sell a diamond engagement ring and couldnt believe the lowball offer. It was insulting really. To offer $100 on a brand new ring that was worth over $1000! I will never go back and will caution others to go elsewhere. And yes I know how retail vs apraisal works. This was not based off an apraisal. Very dissapinted to say the least.

I went here to get a ring resized and when I picked it up they didn't have the gold that was taken out of it to give back to me. They said it was such a small amount that it wouldn't have been worth anything. It was quite a large resize so I felt ripped off. I don't know if most people just leave their gold scraps behind but I would have liked to keep it, especially since I am now getting the ring repaired as one of the bands has worn through and I will have to pay for the extra gold. Why should you get to keep the extra gold if I'm paying for your service?

I had some gold and silver pieces that I have been looking to sell recently. Taking the advice of a few of my colleagues, I attended to Old N Gold Jewellery in Victoria. I've heard plenty about places that rip you off and although I have never had the experience to sell my wares, I anticipated all sorts of issues. Upon entering the store, I was nicely greeted by the staff and directed to the back of the store where they gave my items a very careful lookover, inserted them into machines, weighed them in front of me, compared the weights and measures to a visible screen with the values clearly posted and gave me a very fair market value of my silver and gold. The gentleman behind the counter was really nice and explained the values and with some of my stuff, he indicated it wouldn't garner the value that it deserved (a diamond ring) and so I kept that. Everything else was openly and honestly valued and I left with a super good feeling about this establishment. I understand it's been in business almost 40 years and is an honest, family owned and operated business. I must say, I am VERY satisfied with the professionalism, the courtesy, the assistance and the advice of the associate. Definitely a first class operation. I'm a forever customer now and will highly recommend Old N Gold to my friends, colleagues and family. Thank you very much!

I first found Old 'n' Gold 14 years ago when I was interested in buying antique jewellery and art glass. I got to know Brian and Lorraine, who are two of the nicest and most knowledgeable people you could know. Lately, I've been downsizing and I've been selling some gold jewellery. Brian, Ian, and Chris have been great in explaining the gold market and buying my gold. Just for fun, I got a price from them for one gold chain I wanted to sell, and I went to another gold buying place on Oak Bay to see what they would offer for the same piece. Chris at Old 'n' Gold used a sophisticated machine to analyze and confirm that my piece was 18k gold and he offered me $925. The other place on Oak Bay had no machine but rather took some filings from my piece and poured some fluid over the filings and said that my piece was only 14k, not 18k. They offered $600 for the same piece. Yikes! That's a $325 price difference for the same chain. I always knew that the people at Old 'n' Gold were amazing; now I know just HOW amazing they are. Thanks Old 'n' Gold for all the fun I've had in your store. Brian has an AMAZING knowledge of antique jewellery. Lorraine is a sweetheart.

This is a lovely store that hides many a treasure. I've bought a good half-dozen rings for my wife here, and I've had nothing but the best service, very quick sizing and cleaning, and an overall professional attitude, every time. Every time I'm in Victoria and I visit the store, I (let alone my wife—who happens to be a jeweller) am enthralled by the selection and variety of the items in the display cases. Two minor caveats: This store deals in vintage rings and jewelry, so it's up to the buyer to find out as much as possible about the item in question. In addition, if you love an item, make sure that you put a deposit down right away—most items move fast!

I brought my 14K rose gold ring in to get resized and when I got it back I noticed that there was a large, very obvious dark mark on the outer section of the ring. I have no idea how it happened but it looks as though a lower quality material was had dripped on my ring and was removed but left a mark. When I brought this to their attention they offered to take the ring and remove the section that was damaged and replace it. I honestly have zero faith that they would be able to remove a large section of my ring and replace it without it being completely noticeable so I declined their offer and got a refund on the ring sizing. Overall, how they handled the issue was good but it blows my mind that their goldsmith would make an error like that and attempt to give it back without telling me upfront about what he'd done.

I've been to every coin and pawn shop in Victoria and the Western Communities and Old N Gold have the best prices around. In fact I'm not even sure how the other businesses are still around. The Prices are quite literally, dramatically higher anywhere else in Victoria compared to Old N Gold. Not to mention, and this is probably the most important to me, their customer service is infinitely better than any of the coin shops. They other shops have an extremely off putting attitude and almost make you feel like they don't even want you there and that you're bothering them, even when you're the only customer in the store! Quite frankly, as a silver stacker and a coin collector, you'd be a fool to shop at any of the other shops.

As having recently moved from Calgary to Victoria, I was concerned that I would not be able to locally locate a reputable gold & silver coin and bullion dealer. I was pleased to find so many positive reviews attached to Old 'N' Gold Jewellery's website. Then I went there and... WOW!!! I thought the dealer in Calgary was very reputable, but lacked the type of staff with whom I prefer to deal. I discovered that staff has been in Victoria at Old 'N' Gold Jewellery! Not only are they (ONGJ) all very pleasant and patient on the phone, but in person too! There is no pushiness or barking of "Next!". I feel safe and relaxed... so much so that after only being in there for 15 minutes on my first visit, I felt comfortable enough to leave my stuff at the bullion counter while I ran out to plug the parking meter. Would I recommend you do your bullion/coin business there? Yes! In fact, I recommend that you do not go anywhere else! If I was living in Vancouver, I would make the ferry trip to do business there... no kidding! The service was incredible, accommodating, patient... and not once did I feel I was being ripped off. Believe me, there are (too) many of THOSE types of outfits here already! I did not go into ONGJ for jewellery, so I have no opinion on that facet of their business. Eric
