Absolutely great experience, very helpful after a disappointing banking experience with my bank of 20 years. My bank took a week and a half to give me a poor offer but Mackenzie Gartside was efficient and told me right in the appointment how to get what I needed and I left feeling optimistic. Their lending fee was less than the bank in my situation. They followed up with a lengthy email with links and when I fix a few things they will be ready to give me the mortgage I need.

Unfortunately, not a stellar experience for me. They asked the same questions on subsequent visits as if they didn't know me or take notes. Also, somehow I ended up with a mortgage with a huge penalty ($8500 compared to the $500 I paid on previous mortgages) that I just paid for getting out of it after 2 years to relocate for school. I told them at MGs more than once that I only planned on keeping the property for 2-3 years so why was a mortgage with a huge penalty recommended? I should have read the fine print myself but I had hoped the broker would be looking out for my best interest.

Everything about Mackenzie Gartside and Associates is absolutely top notch. I've used Mortgage Brokers two other times before and now I know what I was missing! First of all, Mackenzie herself is unbelievably accommodating. I was in town for a few days and was trying to determine whether or not I could afford to buy or if I'd have to rent. I contacted her FB page hoping that maybe if she had a cancellation she could squeeze me in before I had to go back to Manitoba. She moved some things around in order to get me in right away. And once I met her I was blown away with her knowledge. Every house I began to talk about, she instantly knew about it and whether or not she would recommend it for my situation. She helped me realize that home ownership in the Valley was more affordable than I thought and provided me with really really good advice. In fact, she suggested a place for my wife and I to go see because she thought it would be perfect for us. We had previously dismissed the house (very poor pictures) but on her advice we went to go look at it and it was so perfect, we put an offer in on the spot. Considering she is not a realtor, I was so so impressed. Then her staff? Again, amazing. I had approximately 2000 questions and called her office over and over again. They were so patient and kind. Never once did I feel like I was being annoying. In fact, they made me feel like a friend. Even more, when my lawyer sent me information that I didn't understand, (and seemed incapable of explaining to someone who had not gone to law school), Mackenzie's people were always quick to explain exactly what I needed. Answers to questions always came quick and they were so kind. One of Mackenzie's staff, Amber, was quite simply the best person I've ever met at dealing with people. She is prompt, skilled, intelligent and seems like the perfect team player. I'm not a business owner, but if I was, I'd be moving mountains to try and hire her, because I believe she would be an important part of success in any organization. I would recommend this firm 10 times out of 10. If my family grows and I need an upgrade in 5 or so years, I wont hesitate to go back there.
