This review is for the location on Selfridge ANGB. I don't have an account with them and they were still willing to make change for my yard sale and their staff was super friendly.

I've been banking with FreeStar for 25 years! I've always been taken care of here and if I had any issues they would always be resolved. Over the past few years thier edge above the competition has been deteriorating. Sad to say I'm leaving but it's a clear cut decision for me. Overall, they are decent banking institution.
I highly recommend this credit union and mrs cherish helped me so much!! I sware I asked her at least 30 questions she answers them al and took good care of my husband and I! She made us very comfortable and we left knowing we made the right decision Mrs cherrish is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! So grateful to her
Had many accounts with CMCCU before they were bought out or changed. Always had great service but today I called to find out where my new debit card was (my old one was cracked and I wanted to replace it), and they had me on hold 16 minutes before I could speak with someone to ask. I wasn't even angry that they cancelled my debit card over a week ago before I had the new one. LOL. But 16 minutes on hold to ask a general question? That's unforgivable. I'll be moving all my accounts next Monday. Thanks but no thanks "FreeStar" - you're worse than Comerica and Comcast Cable.
Dont bank with them. They make to many mistakes.
They have gone back to the old banking ways by charging $35 for overdrafts even though congress put an end to it they found a loophole and now are acting like a big bank not a member owned bank. Something stinks here.

This financial institution is horrible. The members are rude. Our Acct was hacked and they made me pay the fraudulent moneys. Then we tried to change the numbers on the account but it took ny noney being fraudulently taken for them to react. Long story short this place will rip u off!!!!!!!

This Credit Unions sucks, do not do business with them if you want to save money. Fees fees fees and definitely don't get loans with them.

Do not bank here. This isn't a credit union this is a place that tries to strong arm you and try to consolidate your car loans when one loan isn't an issue. They charge fees on everything and try to regulate what deductible you can have when purchasing your full coverage insurance. They make changes to your account without even telling you. They prevent you from using ATM deposits because per them it's the policy when car loan past due, yet you trying to deposit money to pay it. The staff act entitled and privileged. The only staff members that are nice and consistent are Kevin, Ashley, and Rachel. I suggest you never do business with them because during the COVID-19 while everyone was working and assisting they were seeking ways on how to make members suffer. No customers no establishment. Please do not bank with them.
They approved me for car loan when no one else would because I had 0 credit. I've it with them for 4 years now. Ended up moving a hour and a half away and I thought it'd make things difficult but their website was very easy to use, and ive now paid all of it off never missing one payment. I literally just paid it off ????

Horrible customer service. The online and app are so dated. They had to take the entire system off line to do the new 'update'. Cannot log-in and phone WILL NOT EVEN CONNECT. When we did mortgage, they reduced my credit score 100 points. Avoid!!!!!
ATM is always broke. There technology is old. And it's not a good bank if you own a business. Hate this bank.
I have been with this bank for several years and I'm considering changing banks. Compared to a non credit union, these guys are not very knowledgeable. It took 3 hours to set up an account which I have no way of accessing until I receive my debit card and check book. The guy, Joshua, that set it up didn't seemed concerned at all about this. I asked a couple times for temporary checks and was ignored. He comes off as a poser. If he knew what he was doing, it wouldn't have taken 3 hours. I thought after they switched to becoming Freestar it would get better but no luck. The tellers are very friendly and helpful but the people in the offices seem to have an attitude more of self focus rather than customer centered. Edit 1/6/17 I just discovered that Joshua wrote the wrong account number on the direct deposit form.
I have a very neutral opinion on this credit union. My main concern and complaint is that even though interest rates have gone up by so much.... the savings interest rate is 0.2? I can get up to 1.25% with an online BANK
FREESTAR FINANCIAL HELPS ME TAKE MY DREAMS HIGHER.
Customer for several decades and needed to have chargebacks done on unauthorized charges. They do not have anything to take care of this after working hours. When calling them Saturday night and following the prompts to get to card services I was told they couldn't do anything and I would have to wait until Monday and call the office directly to get my money back. Now in a hard spot financially thanks to poor services available to clients.
Normally good however if something goes wrong on there end they refuse to fix there errors and ignore you as long as possible. Looking to change credit unions due to the horrible service.
I have been with this company for 3 years and I started banking with them before their big change from CMCCU to Freestar Financial. I have not had any problems with them until recently and as a loyal customer I don’t feel comfortable with this credit union and they have proven to be untrustworthy. I have been having issues with over drafting fees with my account and I have not had this problem in the past. It was previously explained to me that it does not make a difference if there is money in your savings account or checking account but as long as there is money in your account you can charge your debit card and the funds will be deducted and transferred from checkings/savings. I pay my bills through apps and online services and my Capital One credit card have been set up to my savings account since 2016 and I have faithfully paid my bill every month on time using my savings account. When I deposit money into my account I usually deposit the money into my checkings account and when I pay my Capital One credit card bill that’s set up to my savings account, my payment always go through because I have money in my account and the money transfer from checking to savings in order to pay my bill, this has been set up this way for 2 years and I have never had any problems until recently. My account was over-drafted in January and in April and customer service informed me why it was over-drafted but this problem did not occur for February, March, or the previous years that I have been paying my bills. They change the rules when they want to and now I have an over drafter fee of $49 and some change that they refuse to remove because of their mistake. I am dissatisfied with their customer service and I will pay the $49 but I am definitely closing my account and banking with someone else, they are very unprofessional.
Very disappointed..they have no perks.. 30 dollars overdraft fees and no way to transfer money without 3 day wait or even do an external transfer..ridiculous with today's technology. I would not ever recommend this bank
I gave 2 stars because I was waiting in the drive through teller for way too long and all I wanted to do was pay on a loan ???????? You guys can do better than that.
Absolutely horrible bank. It took almost 3 months to do a mortgage. The service is terrible. I never received any phone calls about any information. I had to call at least once a week to see what the status was. Cancelling all my accounts and going to a real bank. Penny was the mortgage persons name and she was absolutely horrible.
The only problem I have is with the mobile deposits. I was told it would be available in two hours after the bank opens. I deposited my check at midnight. it's noon, twelve hours later, and not posted yet.
This bank told me they could get me a loan and then denied me!! Too many mistakes here. Some of the staff here aren't too friendly

I’ve been a member here for 6 years and not once has the old rude hag they have sitting at the door ever spoken to me!! She is too old to b sooo dam rude get rid of That mess n get sum youthful pleasant, professional folk to sit there ughh I can’t stand her or the way she looks at me
I had a great experience with Joshua. I am not sure what the review below is talking about. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He opened an account for me not long ago and he was very thorough and detailed while explaining the terms of the account. It took a bit of time as I would expect when beginning a new relationship with a financial institution. I didn't have a debit card right away, but I didn't expect him to make it at his desk either. I have recommended Freestar and Joshua to my family and friends. Bravo Joshua!
I have been going here for maybe 15 years and have had a few mistakes but was fixed very quickly .if i have a problem they answer it to my understanding.
I've had a checking and savings account here for a few years. Great place and people. My sincere appreciation to the loan dept. Your representatives were polite, patient and professional while helping me get the right loan. An excellent example of your business and the exceptional people whom you employ.

Beware, they do hard credit checks when you try to open an account. And they are incompatible with all types of money apps. (Cashapp, samsung pay, etc) and the check in lady is the rudest person ive ever encountered in a bank, she stares you up and down as if you are there to rob the bank with her nose turned up

The online website won’t work ever since they updated it and the app also does not work either it’s beginning to be very frustrating and inconvenient for me.
