Our first week in Montreal I stopped at this library with my children. Upon hearing me talk to them in English, a man began yelling at me in French from the corner of the libary to go home, among other profanities. The staff appologized, but I wouldn't recommend this library to non-native Quebec families.

I like to go there with my daughter once per week. We exchange the books, movies or social games. Personally, I don't recommend you to take DVDs from there coz very often they are scratched and might damaged your equipment. My daughter plays there few hours in "kitchen", with blocks or fixes puzzles. Sometimes, she do coloring or borrows the game to play on the place. You need to have card of the library and get crayons, markers or games. To have a card, bring government letter with current address or current phone, internet or Hydro Québec bill. The staff is nice and very helpful. We take part in the competition and once we won a book. I highely recommend you the place to take there. Sometimes you can meet there other parents playing with their kids and chat with them...

Great place to work or use the internet. Fast wifi, easy to connect (no proof of residence, no password), lots of tables and armchairs available. Close to the metro, restaurants and cafes.

You can always find a comfortable place here, reading a book or working. There are many sockets for convenient use of the laptop. The best part is that there will always be plenty of free parking in the next street.

(Translated) I have been a subscriber to the Georges-Vanier Library since my arrival in the southwestern borough of the city of Montreal. It was April 1, 1985. It was 34 years ago. This place was, for me, and for my small family of three, an anchoring environment in the district of Little Burgundy (Little Burgundy). Join me if you have questions.

Update for October 2020: with Montreal in the red zone, we can no longer touch the books, but they've put some out on display and we can ask them for the ones we want as if we were shopping for cakes! It's also recommended that you reserve your books in advance online, through the nelligan site using the number on your library card. So glad we can peruse the books again! I cannot decide on a book without holding it and looking at it while it's physically in my hands! Couldn't go to the children's section but the librarian asked me my children's ages and went to get a few books for each. Loved his selection and loved the service! We've been going here as a family for the past ten years and really enjoy this library!

GV Library is a great place. Very polite, helpful staff. Great space to chill and explore. Kept very clean. I Enjoy my time there!

this is my local library. I had never been there even though I've lived in this area for 8 years. it's a cozy little place, with very friendly staff. lives up to its Library name!

The staff here is great. Professional and helpful. BUT, I have been to several Bibliotheque in Montreal and this has to be the least equipped. The range of books is really small. Even the periodicals section has only like 6-7 magazines. I stay close to it, but travel to other bibliotheque to find some good magazines. Disappointed! This place will do well when it is converted to a museum or upscale restaurant in a few years.

(Translated) For what this library lacks in terms of choice (I have never seen a municipal library as small!), It makes up for the kindness and the attentive service of its staff. The librarian was proactive and smiling when I first introduced myself, and immediately made me feel welcome. I recommend using the online loan service to see if your book is available in Georges-Vanier (it is also possible to have your choices transferred to this library ... be careful though: transfer delay of up to two weeks). The current selection is restricted, but what do you want. Better than nothing at all!

Make sure you bring coins if you want to print something because their machines to pay with cards don't work and it doesn't seem like the employees are concerned about it at all. Their reservation system to use computers doesn't make any sense either so make sure you bring in a lot of patience. Library personnel is not super helpful either. Overall my experience was not gratifying at all and this review probably won't make any difference because it's a public service but I would like people to be aware of this.
