Beautiful Historic Building. About to get an addition.

I was not able to visit this library indoors, but I did stop by the book sale that they were having at the entrance. They had tables of many brand new books, for the price of what you were able to donate. The very pleasant lady said that they had received a large donation of barely used and up to date books. We were happy to make a few selections, and considered it a very welcome treat for the drive home.

Good library with computers, a teen room, and a good selection of books.

I am generally really forgiving of bad service – I get that people have bad days and that it can be really difficult to be pleasant to the public on those days. But bad service seems to be a continual problem at the Picton Branch of the PEC Library – to the point of not wanting to ask the staff simple questions or feeling like a total annoyance and inconvenience when seeking library services. Yuck. This service problem speaks of staff that lack education/experience in the library field, a lack of leadership, and a lack of currency in the field. It is a direct reflection of the management. One of the core tenets of librarianship taught in MLIS programs is excellence in the provision of customer service and library services. I suggest that management gets up to date on current library trends in service and infuses the Picton Branch with some leadership and staff training. Successful libraries aren’t doddy environments where the staff are inconvenienced by library patrons – they are vibrant and friendly and thrive on serving the public with enthusiasm. P.S. It would be nice if staff didn’t eyeball private papers up and down after
