Librarians at the Newmarket Public Library are the worst I've ever seen. Their front desk is at the enterance, and every time we walk in they are loudly laughing, chatting and discussing personal issues that have nothing to do with work. When you ask for information, they are rude and condescending. On one visit, a younger man waiting in line before us at the customer service desk asked to print out a document from one of library computers he was using. The librarian told him it cost 20 cents. The man was very embarrassed, he didn't have any money. He asked if she would let him print just one page? "Oh no," the librarian replied "I need to get my manager..." And she got up to leave. The man was so embarrassed he got angry. "No forget it, just forget it, don't help anyone out". I stopped the librarian in her tracks and gave her a quarter to pay for the man's copy. It was unbelievable. These people may have degrees in library sciences but their common sense and professionalism is non existent.

This is a good library, however I feel they lack in terms of new content for YA, specifically graphic novels and manga.

VERY disgusted by the unprofessional girl who hung up on my husband around 5pm on november 27. she said her name is fiona. she gave him all my information and then when he asked if there was any deal they could do (since the bill was 95 for 5 books, 4 being little childrens books) she got very confrontational. she said that is personal information and she cant help him further. so she could tell him what books were borrowed , what i owe on my account and when it will be sent to collections but couldnt ask a supervisor for a deal for him to pay ??? that all is personal information that got shared. that is against your company policy as she pointed out only at the END when he already got all the info he needed im very disgusted and i hope this employee is dealt with properly so no more personal information can be handed out .

Very beatiful organized library I came all way from bradford to here becuase bradford doesn’t have good quite independent study place in their library And this library has it all !! Very lovely and beatiful view ????????????

Helpful folks when you are in the library. But heaven help you if you need to phone them to ask a question. The voicemail system will drive you crazy. No attendant will pick up the phone no matter how long you wait or how often you try. It's frustrating.

Brought my teenagers today for the very 1st time in almost 2 years. Rules are followed, tons and tons of books are available for all ages...staff is pleasant and ready to help...

Okay so I'm not local and so can't use this library, but my wife is. She brought me along to renew her card and check out some books and I was really impressed by all the new services the librarian told me about! My own local library doesn't have all of that!

Where to begin? This place is both impressive and overwhelming all at once. Impressive because I have never seen such a massive collection of books piled from floor to ceiling ... the shelves are overflowing, like an old used bookstore whose owner doesn't understand the concept of collection curation. It appears that NPL has not weeded a book out of its collection in a decade or more. Is this their mandate? If so, they're doing a great job. However, such full shelves are a mess of visual clutter, making it challenging to find any item quickly (and I'm a librarian!). Did they have what I was looking for? Yes, in about 7 different editions and formats! Frankly, that's overkill. Also, why break up Fiction into so many genres? I'm curious as to how long the CEO has been at NPL and why the library collection is in its current state. I don't get it.

I remember the good old days when everyone was super kind and welcoming. I used to go here all the time now I would recommend Aurora public Library. This place is now so much more depressing than it used to be.

The supervisor is very rude very disgusted in the staff and head guy Todd We moved and my kids misplaced there books so I called to pay on the phone they gave me all the Info and just before they took my card for the payment they told me because it was in my wife's name I could not pay but yet had no problem giving me all the account details about the account .... after endless emails back and forth with Todd ( head guy ) he said he extend the time and that was it ...which wasn't the problem in the first place so yet again today tried to go in and pay to find out a bunch more charges that we were told wouldn't be on there and totally different charges that the bill the originally stated We were told we could take it up with someone else at a meeting that happens once every couple months... Again very disgusted with the way they handle customers and will be going to a different library from now on

I have been going to the library since I was young. Great place that has grown into a good facility for the community. Great selection of books services and magazines for locals. They always update the place with new features and hold various workshops each month.

I hesitate to give a one star as my family’s treatment was so poor. 1st of all, we got a book with bedbugs in it. Talked to woman on front desk who said “yeah we no we have them but we re not suppose to tell people”. (Don’t know name, dark hair with purple in it) Horrendous. Then my children were told very harshly to be quiet upstairs by girl on desk (tall with red hair). My daughter cried. The last straw was being told we had to pay for a book that we returned months ago. There was no discussion at the desk about the book being looked for in the library, just a rude dismissal. My wife went upstairs and took 20 minutes of her own time to find the book. When she brought it to the desk, there was no apology. Just was told that the smaller books sometimes don’t get checked in properly on the machine. This library has changed so much in the last five years. Every Thursday night we use to come as a famiky and would be greeted by the front staff with big smiles and good service. If we had a problem, it was taken care of right away and with a smile. Now, I only recognize 1 lady who has been on stff longtime and is very helpful. But if she’s not there, I get poor service and no one looks happy. The new upgrades look good but don’t matter if staff has no customer service skills. We are now going to Aurora library and are very pleased. This saddens us because we use to like going to the Newmarket Library. I hope things get better and maybe some day we will come again. Also want to mention that I work in Bradford and just got a card there too. They offer Free programs for kids and have a beautiful library. Five stars for Aurora and Bradford Library!

It's a mediocre library with nice books but the computers are incredibly old. Most websites and games such as Roblox do not work as the computer is too old to handle playing. 2 stars for being close by but I'll stick with Aurora

The computer system to reserve a book is stupid! What is the point in taking the time to put a book on hold if someone who goes to the library can take it out while you reserved it! I reserved it because I couldn't make it to the library that day! There has to be a better way otherwise what's the point?!

If you grew up in the 80s or 90s and want to experience the library of your childhood, it's still here! Drop ceilings with 4 bulb fluorescent tube lighting, old school desks and chairs and so on. A real blast from the past! It is quieter than many of the newer open concept style libraries so even if there is talking, it doesn't reverb through the whole building and it's quite cozy. 3 floors, but there is an (also old school) elevator. There are some study booths in the basement and a large and a smaller meeting room. There are also some public computers, as you would expect, so it's not entirely stuck in 1979!
