This Library is classified in the category of Library.
Very pleasant place for studying
Highly recommend it. Want to study in peace and find any book worldwide? Come here!
Technology, infrastructure, location, grt staff, so much space they have everything. Highly recommended
The place looks great after the renovation ( except the entrance corridor at level 1, I don’t understand on why they have not changed the ugly green floor tiles and kept the old one. ) . The place is always crowded and noisy . There should be more control on some annoying people. It will be also nice if they change the trollers used by staff or at least put some grease to them so they become quite . It will be a good idea if they stop people from eating and causing mess to the desks and computers . I am on daily basis there and I can say it is very good place for research and have good resources .
(Translated) I visited the library 12 years ago when I was in elementary school. At that time, there were many restaurants and books, but it looks better because it was remodeled. (Original) 초등학생이던 12년전 토론토로 어학연수 갔을때 자주 들렀던 도서관이네요. 그땐 식당도 많고 책도 다양했었는데 사진 보니 리모델링되서 더 좋아진것같네요.
Love the place! It's spacious, newly renovated, offers classes in studios, quiet areas where one can read or study and has a kids play area.
Some good events happen here at the Toronto Reference Library.
Huge space, plenty cool activities. We are not from area however we visited and it was really cool.
This location rivals toronto reference library in size and services. One of my favorite places to visit and use. I love the additions of the maker space. Great for the whole family too!
One of the best library you will enjoy
This is the BEST library I have ever been to. So many features. And even with the large volume i still manage to get my studying done, which I can't say for many libraries in Toronto. It makes me excited each time I go here. Havent really interacted with staff so im unsure how polite they are lol.
I love this Library.
Currently under renovation, but good library
Hard to locate upon arrival. When i was told it was inside a mall, i had my doubts about how large this place could be. Boy was i wrong. This is such a large library, a real gem. Lots to do in the kids area, the staff were friendly and accomdating. The kids area was closed off sosound was isolated from the rest of the study areas. We.ll be going back.
Nice place to study and not so crowded. Internet speed is good imo
A beautiful library since the renovation. Pretty quiet considering how large it is. Has amazing features such as the Fabrication Studio, eLearning Lab, and Digital Innovation Hub. It also has a green room where you can do filming, and a recording studio. I'm also blown away by the helpful staff.
This library has been essential for our family pre covid and post covid times. Great selection of books. Pre Covid had some good programmes and kids play area. Truly one of the best libraries I have ever been.
The library is a little hard to find???? but other than that it is awesome! So many levels. Nice study areas. Quiet and plenty of books to choose from!
Huge Resources, huge Crowds lots of helpful free programs, if you're looking to get help write your resume and prepare for interviews, or you want to research about your field of study or even write papers at master's level, this library has appropriate and helpful resources.
Really helpful staff and a great selection.
Good, easy, convenient, proud Public Library located at North York Civic Center.
Whoa! A lot of racist white employees. Mainly the women. The dirty looks, snears.... One of them even came up from behind while i was using a computer and made a hissing sound over my head as she walked by. My thoughts went to the articles i read in the newspaper last year about the entrenched racism in the The Toronto School Board. So this is why the city admitted that they have a problem that they call, "Anti Black Racism". From now on i will document even the most subtle types of animosity, along with their names.
(Translated) It's good because I have quite a lot of Korean books. Since it is connected to the station, it is convenient and there are many places to study! (Original) 한국 책도 꽤 많이 소장하고 있어서 좋아요. 역이랑 연결되어있어서 편하고 공부할 곳도 많아서 좋아요!
Largest library in Toronto
The library is so well-built and spacious. But, the Wi-Fi is so so so weak and the fact that staff just say "it happens sometimes" is so annoying. The public library in the middle of North York, Toronto, must have a prefect Wi-Fi. People come to library to study and these days the Internet is indispensable to studying or any other activity. Hope they figure something out about this big issue.
Awesome! :)
One of my favourite libraries to study in. The upper floors have a great view of Mel Lastman Square .
Umm, you said that the renovations are going to end 9 months ago.
Best library in the city.
It's a very nice place to study and concéntrate. It's well conditioned. Beautiful structure. Ive seen people from all ages. It is very probable that you find what you need or something of your interest enjoy. I personally love it!!
Staff needs re training and they need to learn how to be nice to other people there very rude
Great library! Why close all Sunday? It’s 50% of the weekend and a prime study day. Wishing I had access to one of the very nice study rooms, a table, resources. It’s very antiquated to be closed on a Sunday, could be jobs for more staff/students, and there are Covid protocols other days!
Everything is perfect. Great area to study. It will be better if they could change the chairs in quiet study area. Chairs are out of wood and hard now.
A very big and modern library with so many study spots.
Clean and beautiful library for mother and kids. But the place has huge noise like in the concert because of construction noise and children shouting and parents doing nothing. Worse thing is that Internet is very slow and frequently disconnected. If you want to study, go other libraries such as Fairview or Finch West and so forth.
One of my favourite place and you can find most of the books english hindi punjabi etc
The staff are super nice and patient. They guided me perfectly :) really nice and cozy
Great place for kids and adults alike! One can spend an entire day here!
The staff are super nice and patient. They guided me perfectly :) really nice and cozy
Huge selection of books, movies, CDs and learning materials.
One of my favorite libraries to study in. Staff are so kind and helpful in booking the study rooms and other services. They are also strict with covid-19 protocols. One thing that I absolutely love about this library is its piano room! Not every library has one.
It was good
Only floor 1-2 open today. Lots of empty space and the work areas are very small and narrow. Not enough seating. The staircase is a total failure. Half of it seems to be deemed for seating as there are plugs, I guess they expect people to sit on the stairs. Two years to give it a coat of paint and buy new furniture that are mainly useless. Perhaps another three to finish the other floors. The kindergarten area takes almost half of the first floor whereas it should have been moved to the concourse area. Few people would appreciate trying to read or study surrounded by kids noise. The study room is too small and will get smelly and crowded in no time. Somebody made a lot of money with this reno but the result, for the community, is a total fiasco. Yet another disappointment in a city that has gone down the drain.
Updated and modern look. Functional setting. Good place to read or study.
Extremely professional people
Excellent renovation to the north york centre library. The space is bright and warm. Lots of seating, tables and mix used stairway/ seating. There are plugs for powering devices at most seating spots. Too bad they didn't also renovate the main floor teen centre.
A very nice library with very helpful staff. Well maintained and well located.
This is a bad libery and i wont go there because there there are bookS.......
This library is fully upgraded with nice and separate place for kids (babies/toddlers friendly!) and quiet place upstairs. Lots of good programs & convenient location. Highly recommended.
This library is the best place to borrow books and movies. You can book a study room online so that it can be reserved for you in future time. It is best if you book a room a few days before you go. To borrow books or movies, you will need …
(Translated) Come here every day to study, the learning atmosphere is really awesome! (Original) 每天都会来这里学习,学习氛围真的杠杠的!
Went here recently and attended a tech program, which was very useful. The Digital Innovation Hub at this library is so cool. The library have 3d printers, computers with Adobe programs on it, Imacs, a green screen room, and a very open space library full of different variety of books. Recommend to come here if you live near by.
This library is spacious, bright and clean. After many months of renovation, it now houses incredible facilities such as a digital innovation hub with 3D printers, vinyl printer and iMacs loaded with design software. There is a fabrication …
HUGE library book section with wonderful helpful staff. This location has been recently updated to include so many inquiry play areas for the kids! Great place to unwind and let the kids be kids. Food court is right around the corner, and TTC accessible. We keep coming back!
Spacious library with lot of space to sit down and enjoy and book. It's the first time I've been there. Hopefully I can come back. Highly recommend
Spent some great time here. Very welcoming for anyone who wants to work/study in peace.
Friendly staff and great study rooms
The North York center library is going to close for 3 months due to construction, start Dec 4.
Big beautiful Library. Easy to get to. Right off the subway line
Thats the place you gain more knowledge from books
It's really a calm cool place, I spend much of my free time there
Best Metro Toronto library!!
I don't particularly care that the book selection is poor--you can order all the books you want through their website. My issue is with the staff and their poor customer service. They refused to send me the library card registration postcard (a way that people can prove their address, in conjunction with a piece of ID which proves who they are). Despite the fact that this is listed as an option on website, the man at the circulation desk told me it was "for newcomers only". The website did not mention this. I stood my ground, and the man at the North York Branch said he would sent the postcard to me "as a favour". I seriously doubted that he would actually mail the postcard. I had to escalate this to Answerline, and their response was that I COULD, in fact, be sent a postcard, and that following the letter I received, they would do so. I have received the postcard from Answerline, but not from the North York Library. If you need to renew your card, DO NOT go to this location unless you have a driver's license with your Toronto address on it--students, non-resident employees, and people with precarious housing situations: beware.
This library is not only beautiful but the staff is great. Very helpful and caring. I love it.
Absolutely huge library, very professional and helpful. The only better Library is at Bloor and Yonge, definitely worth the travel.
A beautiful Library... collection of books
Currently closed for majer renovations, but there's a pop-up location at the concourse level of the mall.
What a great space for fun & interactive stations for children of all ages. The study stations / work areas are amazing! This place has come a LONG way from when I use to frequent my local library. Nice nooks to just sit and read as well. Every space has been thought through...... I see many many families enjoying the space ????
Good
it's open and back to 'normal'
This place can be quite busy at time so there are not enough chairs for everyone
Excellent resources for all sorts of projects
Spacious, airy, and a great place to work!
- Great and lovely staff - Lots of room - Clean (bathrooms could be much more cleaner) - Good ventilation and temperature regardless of the season.
Newly revamped, this library lookin' fresh???? they practically have a children's playground inside on the first floor (I had fun there too lol). A security guard and many staff who is always happy to help me. There's many study area/rooms and laptop ports and gaming area. They have many features films, Hollywood movies, and classics. I recently borrowed Steel Magnolias movie...fav line from the movie "...here, take a wack at Weeza..." lol
It's open for limited use. Has friendly staff.
Security did nothing when a disruptive person on main floor kept shouting profanity and incited violence towards another person.
Nice ????????????
A central nexus for the community. Given new life by the recent total renovation, including much more computer and electronics oriented facilities, study spaces, and sitting areas.
this is such a nice library and their after school programs are great for the kids. always a good place in the community to go and read a book and stay connected with the community.
Clean huge very nice staff
Largest library in North York with lots of things you can't find in any nearby library but as of November 2020 they still don't have scanners at the checkout counters that can read phone screens
Excellent place to study.
Level one is more suitable for kids and it is very noisy. If you want quit place to study, go to level three. There are 9 study rooms in this level which are first come first serve. Also, there are 4 group study rooms that you can book in advance for 2 or more persons for 2 hours per day. In addition there are 3 group study rooms in teens zone.
This library is amazing! The amount of stuff it has for kids, is as good as taking toddlers for a full day trip! It’s surely the best library I have visited till date. It’s current form is not even a year old and is still under renovations. The facilities available are great. There are plenty of discussion rooms and ample of space to do whatever you want. I particularly like the red comfy chairs on the first landing which are hard to miss. This is surely something that makes the city of Toronto great!
Great library with very helpful staff and lots of services and classes available.
(Translated) Many books (Original) 图书很多
This place is fine for the most part, I enjoy coming here with my friends but I sometimes feel as if the secruity gaurd is following us and watching over us most of the time. 3 stars.
Very large space! Easy to find spots and has a large variety of books. You can find every book here. The best part is it’s accessibility. And it’s beautifully built and maintained.
Great place to study... More power points would be great.
Very nice library to work at if you live in the neighborhood. I wish they have longer hours in the weekend
great place for study
awesome library. great collection and service!
They just got elevators upgraded. Very nice place for study and close to subway. If they have longer hours on Sunday that would be better.
Had a bad experience with one of the librarian in the kids area.. kids were playing ball catch this librarian came in between and the ball hit her hand.. she got furious and asked us to go out immediately ... There is a way to say if you wanna discipline the kids .. she was really rude shouting at the kids and spoke very rudely to me (parent) as well before other parents.. it was insulting and we are never going back there ever again..
Great place to study and do work. You have your occasional crackheads/dogs who are loud. Otherwise it’s the best place to focus.
Super nice library! Friendly staff! Lots of computers, space and desks.
That is just a great place to read books
This is definitely one of the best TPL locations in Toronto. I think maybe only the Bloor Reference library is better. This place is absolutely massive with around 4 floors of books and interesting spaces. The main floor has a dedicated teen area with load of books, manga, and computers/gaming systems. On the other side of the main floor, there is a kids area with all sorts of fun activities. The second floor has some unique spaces including a digit innovation lab with 3D printers, a green room for filming and a sound editing room. There is also a sewing studio on the floor. The higher levels have books and study rooms. The whole library was recently renovated, so it looks really clean and updated. Honestly, this place is amazing. I just wish it was open 24/7.
One of the most peaceful place for book lovers in North York, biggets collection, latest books available. Staffs are very friendly, childrens section staff are the best. You need to come early morning to get room allocations. Washrooms are neat and clean. Lifts available. I generally go for medical books and you have a good collection of medical books including Mccqe 1&2 books. Toronto notes etc. available. Staffs are very friendly here. Starbucks is just attached to the library. And this is located at Mel Lastman square. There is North York station subway just opposite . TTC available. paid parking is available in the road and its very limited and usually busy. One of the best library in GTA
Really good place to stay with the kids.. a lot books and toys for the little ones
Good place to study. Usually not extremely quiet though. Ideal for shorter visits.
Here don’t have a seat
This place is very quiet, a lot of the time. It could get a bit talkative. The service is okay, they keep increasing the fine and then could not find the book that was stuck in the middle of the return box. The Nancy Drew series is very great! The Junie B. series is to die for. The decor is a hit and a miss. Wonderful atmosphere! Stop by here if you'd like to catch a good Nancy Drew or Junie B. book, but try Malvern Library if you'd like to speak to support.
I love this library and have been loving it for years, I hope the renovation will not take out the natural charm the library had before. I hope it does not become too modern ???? but excited to see what it will be like once Reno's are done. The pop up location is amazing, I would rather go to this pop up location than other libraries because of how organized, updated, and clean it is. The staff is friendly and efficient and the pop up location has the same charm as the old library. Update: the new library is great and modern and I love the staircase idea. However i do not like how they took out the wooden tables and wooden chairs! I loved that. Now, it's mostly plastic and glass. I really don't like the glass in the rooms. With the glass there, the study rooms have lost the sense of privacy. I have gone to the new library a few times now and there is not alot of space. At all. In terms of a chair and a table seating. Not including the staircase, which had open spots. Im hoping that the higher floors will be less open, more quiet and have more privacy and more reading space and seating. Also, the teen section did not change one bit! Still the same which I appreciate.
Many books, modern feeling, and good librarians
(Translated) It has become very beautiful after re-modification. The collection is reduced, electronically, and there is a lot of space. The first floor children's play area and children's book area are added. (Original) 重新改裝過變得很漂亮,將藏書減少,並電子化,多出很多空間,並增設一樓兒童遊戲區及童書區。
There is plenty of books and computers for you to use.
The library is reopen today (July 5,2018) for floors 1 and 2 only. Closed for almost 2 years. Now there are lots of open space, but does not have enough seats for readers. It looks like a community centre instead of a library. It is not easy to find a quiet seat for reading and studying. The concourse and floors 3-6 are still under construction. Nobody knows when it will be full reopen. They spent almost 2 years on floors 1 and 2, and perhaps they need another 5 years to complete the concourse and floors 3-6.
I love this library and have used it before and after the redesign, they have lots of great services and new technology. I have always found the staff courteous and helpful. I mostly visit to use the study spaces, however, and the open concept design leads to distracting levels of noise. Loud conversations, children screaming and crying, elevator chimes... everything echoes. It seems like a lot of thought was put into seating for studying, but not the environment the redesign would create. I can't wait until the fifth floor reopens, that was my favourite quiet place to study before the renovation!
This library is my favorite library in the system for many reasons. 1) It is one of the biggest libraries and the biggest one where you can borrow books because the Toronto Reference Library is the biggest but you can't borrow books. 2) It is the prettiest, cleanest and the most tidy. This is because the library was and is still renovating but some parts of it are open for the public. 3) It also has a large variety of books and you can basically find almost any book that you are looking for whether it is in a different language or not, here! Everyone should visit this library at least once! It is very convenient, you get off at North York Centre station on line 1 and it is inside the Empress Walk shopping mall beside North York City Hall.
Printed some stuff, very aesthetic with a good selection
Fantastic facilities. The kids zone is amazing. I also loved the fabrication studio. Lots of workshops for kids and adults to choose from. Best for kids especially during winters.
Very nice huge library with all kinds of books. There's also a bunch of computers and desks that can be used for free.
Renovations done to the library are truly amazing.
I feel bad to write this review but if you are looking for somewhere quiet to study, i don't recommend this place. I have been in so many libraries, but this is my first time in this library and probably the last time! People are laughing loud, speaking loud, etc.! It is unbelievable. I do not see any problem with the staff members as they are trying to keep the area quiet , but some people are very inconsiderate!
It's great to have such a good library in the area. Love Piano booth for studying.
A fantastic branch with many resources. Staff are also top notch and very friendly, highly recommend!
Went to the third floor and saw an empty study room. It said to go to the first floor to get a ticket. I go to the first floor. They say to go to the third floor and talk to security. I go back to the third floor. They tell me it’s first come first served. Do not go ticket hunting. You do not need to. Previous: Libraries are one of the few places that a student can study without having to make purchases. The operational hours of his library are extremely dissatisfactory (Sunday it opens at 1:30pm and closes 3.5 hours later). Being in a very studious area, this library should be open a lot later. It’s not warm enough outside anymore that people can study at Mel Lastman Square. I mostly study at the McDonald’s at Sheppard and Yonge (15 min walk south) because it’s 24 hours. If this library was open until 10pm every day (like my college’s library is) I would be satisfied but it closes at 5 or 8 every day. I hope this review helps improve the library because I really need a study space where I don’t had to buy coffees every hour.
It was biggest and nicest library I've ever seen
The study room was, again, too small
this seems under construction now, there are small temporary space on the lower floor.
Nice library mostly quiet
Nice environment. A place to enhance our knowledge!
After the renovation the second floor have a 3D printing workshop and a sewing workshop. The kids stuff on the main floor look fun as well. The only thing is 3rd floor and up are still under renovation, it’s a little packed than usual. Cool stairs but seems like a potential tripping spot for people.
Spacious, lots of seating available with a safe distance from other library people, and I swear the internet is faster now. Always a fan of public spaces where there's no incentive for you to buy anything!
That's the greatest library I ever been in the the Toronto
The kids play section is awesome..
Friendly staff, lots of natural light, airy, quiet library. Undergoing renos which will make it even better.
Multilevel library with reading spaces, one of the best and most spacious public libraries in Toronto.
Modern and clean facilities - looks great after the renovation. A perfect place to study!
Great selection of kids books.
so glad we moved to here!
Very lucky to have this library close by.
This is a good library . It’s been remodelled since the pandemic and I’m happy that this location and others are open again. I do however think that the security guards should proceed more carefully when accusing someone of eating (now prohibited due to covid). I watched a girl across from me get accused of eating when she was simply blowing her nose with a tissue. Still happy that you are open again!
Not enough seats available for studying in a quiet area. Staff is too loud.
Not many quiet study space but beautifully designed library.
Good place But finding a quiet room is challenging
I love this library. Good stuff here. Very versatile books in all languages. Even Farsi.
Always packed. Good selection of books and services for patrons. Would be nice if the furniture was a bit cleaner and the washrooms a whole lot more! Cleanest ones are on the top level.
The library is great and new but the worker was extremely rude, entered the study room without knocking, behaved so rude almost like yelling. Never seen such a terrible attitude before. He was on 3rd floor, almost bald, medium height and weight. My friend has a heart disease and the way he entered the room like crazy scared her and her heart rate went high. I was seating on a chair and he screamed At us I need that chair now. Never gonna come back at this library again.
Clean but not too quiet library
Friendly staff and good place to study. It could have more space to sit.
This library is recently renovated and some area of the library has not finished its renovation yet. It is located in the heart of old city of North York. The library is easy to come by public transit, TTC. The closest subway station from the library is North York Centre station.
If you haven't been here since the renovations, you really should. It's very nice!
An incredible space with a variety of resources and work areas and quiet spaces. It has everything including a 3d printer/maker area, a new fashion design/maker area, helpful staff, terrific play areas for kids, an abundance of the usual …
Great place to study or catch up on books. Huge selection of novels and non-fiction. Plenty of group and single study rooms, although they tend to get filled up quickly.
I have been to this library many times and i have never been so disappointed!!!! First of all a group of women decided to come sit down and have a conversation while I was studying. Then i decided to get up and move to a different location where a women was playing videos on her phone OUT LOUD! When i went to approach a staff member about this problem they said “go tell someone else who works here” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What kind of staff are the city public libraries hiring these days?! A library is supposed to be a place for a quiet study work environment NOT for loud conversations and disruptions. 100% unacceptable...
This library is quite amazing. Huge, with friendly staff. There's also this woman named Deb who runs the toddler time program. She does a fantastic job.
The moment you enter there, you'll never want to get out. The great and calming atmosphere is excellent for both studying or reading. It has plenty of study rooms which are well lit and well conditioned. Staff are among the best people around and are extremely polite and helpful. I can't say enough of this location. I recommend to go and try there for yourself.
This library is the biggest in North York. It is being renovated as of Jun 2019. Only the first four floors are open to public. Overall, the place is good. However, as it is big, you will have children on floor or mother with their on floors that are suppose to be quiet. Also, high school or university student often book those meeting rooms, when they come out, the noisy are quite annoying for people who tries to seek silent. Can’t really give 5 starts to the library.
Every staff member I came across was more than helpful.
good
I used to come here everyday after school and I really enjoyed my time here. I no longer live around the area .... I miss this place. Very nice public library.
While the library isn’t bad, all washrooms are just abysmal. Why they didn’t renovate the washroom is beyond my comprehension.
I used to come here everyday after school and I really enjoyed my time here. I no longer live around the area .... I miss this place. Very nice public library.
This place was renovated last year and it looks good. That is it. Do not expect a place where you can come work or study, It's impossible. They do not have a single table or cubicle where you can seat comfortably and work. This modern vibe where you have to seat on tiny chairs with very low tables or on the stairs is ridiculous. Absolutely non-sense. So much room and none of it has taken advantage of, such a shame. It feels like a Community Centre or even a City Market. People are loud and staff is even louder. Unless you have noise-cancelling headphones you will not have a good time.
I love the environment.
My favourite branch of tpl for sure.
Large facility, very accessible. The staff and security are both helpful and knowledgeable. Parking right across the street and underneath!
Great library, with good atmosphere
Amazing library. Large number of books and computers for use. Even had other services such as piano practise room
Great selection of books, physically large library and the small lake out front is a nice touch.
Big place to read and stay for free wifi
Be aware that if someone left an item in a study room, but has otherwise vacated it, then that study room is as good as claimed. If you think the item was forgotten and that the study room is indeed unused, then you must advise the library …
Truly the best branch in Toronto! I have been a customer of this branch for many years and never had any problems or issues with any staff. Many of them have proven to be helpful, friendly and accommodating to my needs as a customer with a disability. hey have gone out of their way to serve me as a customer with respect, courtesy and kindness. In addition, the branch is very well organized and recent renovations have made the space more spacious and open so that customers with disabilities can move freely without structural barriers. As well, this branch has the most amazing audio and visual collection in Toronto and their collection of books is outstanding. Truly modern, up to date library that cares about their customers all around.
(Translated) I went there because it's the closest library from my house, but it wasn't bad for a quick search haha It's big, quiet and cool, but sometimes there are people who are noisy, so earphones are essential!
I grew up going to this library. There are staff who worked here since I was a small child, who still work here. Kind staff, spacious library. With the population growing around the neighbourhood, it was becoming more difficult to find a seat. But nice to hear that the library is renovated now!
a great spot to get some studying or work done, if you're too comfortable at home and need a change of space lol. also very close to subway and other utilities. usually pretty busy, so it can be noiser than your average library. north york library, i appreciate ya
The staffs here are always helpful and assist us whenever needed. This place is been recently renovated and it has many activities for the children . I love this place !
When this library closed for renovations in 2016, it was supposed to reopen in a few months. A year later, a reopening date still hasn't been announced! This in a world where entire buildings are constructed in less than a year!
Wonderful library with awesome facilities
Amazing library and I would recommend to everyone to visit.
Spacious library with good accessibility(being near to subway station), good collection of books and a great environment
Terrible experience every day I have visited here. Most of the time, People r talking in the quiet study area. Today one couple ( red n blue dress) were talking continuously in the third floor on the quiet study area during morning time. I …
Library has a limited access due to the covid-19.
It’s really good place to bring my toddler here. They have so many stuffs for kids. My toddler and I spent 3hrs here.
It's nice
Best Library in North York by far. Lots of room to study, big selection of books and almost as good as Toronto Reference.
Space is a bit limited due to the pandemic, but overall it's quiet and nice place to study.
I am grateful to be able to borrow books electronically particularly during the pandemic. Sometimes I need to wait for a book to become available but it is worth it.
Great staff huge library and has every book u need
Computers, particularly monitors, are mainly old. They renovated just the building without upgrading the equipment. The number of computers is not enough given the high number of visitors who need to use computers at the library. Washrooms are not properly ventilated. They are usually dirty and smelly. The library closes too soon on weekends. On weekends, people have more free time and want to study at the library.
It was nice. They had the books I was looking for.
(Translated) It's clean and well-equipped, but I think there's a shortage of tables for study. (Original) 깔끔하고 시설이 좋아요 근데 규모에 비해 공부할 수 있는 테이블은 좀 부족한 것 같아요
Good library, well renovated but may I ask why WHY IN THE HELL would someone design a library with a children's playroom WHERE SHRIEKING, CRYING, SCREAMING CHILDREN CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CORNER OF THE LIBRARY AT ALL TIMES OF THE DAY
The Library itself is terrific, what isnt, is the mens washrooms on floors 3 and 4. Major health hazzard way too small and piss everywhere, even ad the first to use it in the opening hours it's not been cleaned. Feet literally stick to …
Doing as well as can be expected during the pandemic restrictions. Cheerful staff.
Usually love this branch. Wish the hours listed on the site were correct. Judging from the number of people who were outside the library today,it would appear that they too believed the TPL website when it said this branch was open today from 1:30 - 5:00 when in actuality it was closed and will be closed on Sundays for the summer months. When you search the website for this branch it shows it as open :(
There is no free parking which sucks. So for me it's not a place to hang out to read or study. The WiFi connection sucks too and it's hard to find a place to sit down, I end up exercising more than reading as I walk on every floor to find a …
A great alternative to toronto reference library. Easily the most quiet library to study in that area
I am really grateful for this public space and definitely enjoy coming here. I’m not much of a browser but I love ordering and picking up holds, which I find amazingly convenient. The variety of seating is amazing, and the access to resources like the 3D printer and sewing room help bring life back into a space for a new generation. I know a lot of people have complained about the noise in other comments, but to be honest the more relaxed atmosphere at this library makes it a lot more comfortable and practical in my opinion. It’s a relief that other people around me are having light conversation while doing their work, so I don’t feel pressure to be uncomfortably silent. It also increases the usage you can get out of the space, as not all work can be done in complete silence. If I had to rent a study room any time I wanted to make noise that would be really difficult. The timings and system for booking them are a bit inneficient and inflexible in my opinion. I’m sure the upper floors will get gradually quieter, and they could always put up signs there suggesting it’s a silent workspace. The only issue I have is that this library is so popular a lot of times seating is completely full.
Newly-renovated with carpeting and wood panelling for a bright but comfortable ambience. Rivals Reference library for spaces and facilities. Can be crowded at times and some computers insist you use Internet Explorer, for whatever reason.
when Renovation can be compelted?
Not a huge fan of the outcome of the renovation but am i ever happy that the library is back. Still great collection. Books on hold are on the second floor
Excellent place to study. Quite big but still gets crowded. Definitely attracts lots of readers.
awesome place for a walk
The safety measures are amazing. The staff have also put in a blackboard a list of subject which might be of interest, and they could help you with the choice of books
Love this library. Its very quite and huge. Whenever I feel bored and don't have any plans I just go here with coffee food and spend my entire day. I haven't been here recently , missing it so much.
Best library I’ve been to yet! It’s huge and it has an amazing variety of teen books, they also have a gaming room, study rooms and more
Very very helpful and patient staff...I appriciate the management of the library.
My favourite library. The renovations took this place to the next level. I go for the books, but always stop by to check out the 3D printer. How cool is it that I can find 18th century poetry and a 3D printer in the same place?
Thanks for still opening long hours and operating so well under covid 19 pandemic. Thank you every staff.
2 years of reconstruction only leads to such a failure. this new library is a total failure, with huge waste of space for computer players rather than readers. books stay back out of the reach of readers. until you climb up to the 3rd floor can you really approach some real book collections and the old days of being surrounded by books don't exist any more.
why are renovations taking so long?
Best place to study
Best and huge.. everything available.only refreshments are not allowed in current times
thanks that sir on the fifth floor, very nice to explain how to searh books and data on Safari to me.
Hands down one of the best Toronto Public libraries. A great collection of books, a good number of computer devices, children space, printing and scanning facilities, group study rooms, many study spaces. Very ttc accesible(same building as North York Centre subway station). Staff are always helpful
One of the best Toronto libraries. Tons of work space spread across several levels. Very wide selection of books especially business related books. Has undergone many renovations over the past number of years and is quite nice.
Has some crazy awesome new additions after the renovations, it was definitely worth it. Feels like there's less books than there used to, but It could just be because of the changed layout or more will come until after renovations are completed.
Nice and spacious library
So annoying by alot of noise.. by people who dont study
I really appreciate how this library has a huge place for kids to have fun and learn! Upper floors are the quieter areas of course.
The staff was very impolite. Do not ask them questions.
It’s not much improvement from year long renovation..the 5th and 6th floors are still close and the washrooms especially ladies are still the same; very small for a big library! Only positive is that they got rid of the offices that was on the left side and put more study rooms; more study tables. The place gets busy during exam times and I haven’t seen any security walk around cause there some inconsiderate people eating their smelly lunch in library and study rooms. Dec. 2021 update The renovation is complete. I guess it takes a pandemic to make the staff to finally clean the computer keyboards often! But I suggest wearing gloves when using them just in case. It was great during the summer as the place was practically empty but now with school started it has become more crowded at times. I would suggest vaccine requirement to enter, because not everyone wears a mask or wear it properly, nor does not physical distance either. There's only one security guard I only seen so far just sitting behind a desk at the entrance.
This library is absolutely beautiful after their recent renovations. My favourite part of the space are the maker spaces on the second floor. They have 3D printers, sewing machines, vinyl sticker makers, embroidery machines, and computers loaded with the adobe suite and a lot of other programs. It has a great looking kid space that is mostly soundproof to the rest of the library, which is great if you’re here to study or read.
Good book selection. Convenient location.
It is so noisy because of the construction, do not recommend to study here if you have exams coming up.
Amazing audio book selection!
Renovations are on point! The maker spaces on the second floor is definitely a game changer
One of the best library in the city. The staff are very welcoming and tte kid area as that's where I go mostly AMAZING. Just a great space and wonderful selections of books and activities for toddler and kids as well. LOVE this place.p
If you want to study there, be sure to book a study room in advance. Or get in really early to get a booth. Otherwise you might find the food court a better choice. There are some rather angry woman sneaking around, looking into your computer and demanding your seat... The library staffs, however, are very friendly. There’s just not much they can do, since it’s a PUBLIC library. Someone has to ruin it for everybody.
It is not library. there are lots of noise there. children are playing on upper floors. it is terrible and you can not concentrate because of noise. the mouses are for right handed and even you can not move the mouse to the otherside. the keyboards have a problem and bases are broken. the people speak loud and nobody care about them also staff's doors make a lot of noise.
Lots of great resources available. Love the kids area!
the best public library in toronto , much better than reference library , love it .
Very very noisy full of alot new ""canadians"" apparently they do not understand libraries are supposed to be a quiet place and the staff is more concerned with offending them then doing something about the noise
Pathetic WI-FI connection and speed. extremely slow and disconnects constantly. Education is all online now. sitting next to stacks of old dusty books that no one borrows has no value when everything is accessible through online resources yet the internet access fails you constantly. of course education has no value in this city unless is paid, then you are provided with a high speed internet.
It was newly renovated in 2018. Very spacious! There is a corner for kids. My 2.5 year old son can spend hours over there.
One of the best public libraries in Toronto!
Really great library . Good, helpful staff. Great for 3 D printing which my son enjoys. Cool place on a hot summer afternoon
Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Underwent renovation not too long ago, so it is a clean, nice facility. Definitely a great library.
a fantastic library with books catering to every subject and very helpful and wonderful staff
Love this renovated library however it is way too loud inside to study. Appreciate they created fun spot for kids, but would have been better if they also have a door or something in that kids' spot - too loud kids noise so this library does not have a function for 'study' except for 'study room' which only available few between 2nd to 4th floors and need to book ahead. Even for the study room, you don't want to book 4th floor - you can hear everything what is going on at 5th floor through ceiling and 5th floor does not have study room... 4th floor study room is not quiet AT ALL. Staffs are really nice though and have a lot of activities going on, so definitely great spot for community but not so much for studying.
WiFi covers Mel lastman square. Pretty neat
