Here you will be able to see the opinions of people who have information of the services and products of Vancouver Public Library, Central Library (Library) around North Vancouver area (Canada).
As of day the business gets a rating of 4.7 stars over 5 and that score was based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that it reaches an reviews average is practically the best one, and it's based on a large number of feddbacks, so we can say that the valuation is quite faithful. If people have bothered to give their feddback when they've done well with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to set scores when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Library is classified in the category of Public library.
Building is frequently seen in TV shows. Great architecture
Ok
Best place ever
An awesome library to visit! If you're in Vancouver you must stop by for the experience
Vast variety of books in the most diverse topics. Excellent studying environment.
Wonderful layout and architectural designs.
Very beautiful building
Wonderful quiet place to work, just note that you need a library card to access the internet
Blown away by the services, the incredibly helpful staff and the wonderful facilities. Very impressed.
Awesome library experience with multiple floors of resources, computers and quiet spaces. Well connected by public transport and a good selection of retail offerings on the ground floor.
A comprehensive collection of reference materials in all formats. $2 VPL Card.
Vancouver landmark. Wonderful design that makes it a pleasure to be in. Large selection of books that are well sorted and spacious.
A great collection of books including ones from other languages. New books arrive every week. Transfer service where your books are transmitted to your closet branch is quick and efficient. Hold service is also available.
I love books! This place is awesome! thumbs up! whoooot!
Awesome place and the staffing were so kind and patient.
Oh, it feels so good to be back here, even thought it feels.. emptier than I remember. Hopefully it's back to feeling like a home study away from home soon.
A credit to Vancouver
Very worth to visit. I've just take the pic around the library.Beautiful!
Nice quiet place to study.
The library is Beautiful, staff are amazing
I havent had the opportunity to go into the library during my visit to Vancouver, however i am giving it 5 stars based on it's exterior & also because it gave me the wonderful opportunity to visit the set of The Flash (tv show)
Beautifully constructed library. One of my favorite places to go downtown and do some quiet work and reflect on all the mistakes I’ve ever made in my life. They have lots of books here. And when I say lots of books, I mean lots of books! Like, probably too many books. You guys compensating for something? Anyway, the staff are always friendly, even when I don’t pay my late fees... my main complaint is that the men’s bathrooms sometimes smell like alcohol because homeless people come in there and get drunk and spill beer everywhere. But it’s barely the library’s fault. Overall, I’ll definitely keep visiting ???? even with the alcohol smell, it’s easily one of the best public washrooms downtown
I love this building! Amazing architecture and a huge selection of resources available.
My favorite library of all time. I can always find helpful librarians and a lot of quiet spots to enjoy my reading. I would always visit this library once a week since I used to live nearby. Too bad that I have moved.
Clean nice library in Central Vancouver. Variety of books with various languages, you can use washroom, they have meeting room, vending machine for food and drink, and I love the rooftop!
It was my first time at VPL. I had a great experience. Super good place to study and work ❤️
A beautifully designed public building done in a masterful way. Also popular filming location for movie & TV series.
Large and spacious.
Beautiful building and location
Tourists and locals Vancouver heaven place to hangout and chill Here you can find tons of educational and personal entertainment for your kids and yourself Well maintained secured and clean environment Millions of dollars were invested in this majestic building and lot of innovation into its creation DVDs music cds stories books references you name it they have it to local and international magazines Computer stations and specialized equipment 8 floor is a calm reading area and laptops plugs available in a neat way 9 floor is a garden balcony view with lot of chair and tables spot to choose Water fountain are on each floor nearby washrooms and to keep you hydrated Keep an eye on each floor on those museums items and collectibles
Beautiful library with an amazing assortment of resources and a lovely atrium filled with cafes and shops
Absolutely gorgeous place to come and sit down to relax for reading.
Love VPL Central branch. Staff helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Felt covid safe too.
Nicest library I've been to in awhile. Big, lots of spaces my issue is finding an outlet sometimes it gets confusing which place do/don't. It's fairly busy on weekends but most people are sitting quietly doing their own thing. Security also did a good job the other day diffusing a situation instead of escalating and I thought that was commendable. Good views during sunset + nicely decorated

A great space to get inspiration and stay focused.
Very shocked it only opens at 10 am. Thought it would open by 8. Beautiful building and services.
I really like the VPL. Their service and staff is great. I visit here every now and then not just to rent materials but sit down quietly and study. The reason why I gave 3 stars is because today I have bitten by bedbugs when I was sitting in cushioned chairs for 30 mins. The chair I was sitting on is clean and looking good. As I was sitting there I fold my shirts sleeve and put it on the armrest while I was reading my book. I was chatting with a friend at that time and didn't notice slight pain arising from my arm. When I looked at my right arm I was shocked and immediately get up from there and informed the VPL staff. They're taking care of it now but I just want to put it here just in case. Be aware of the cleanliness of the seats before sit and always double check.
Easy to find the book you're looking for. Great selection of foreign magazines. The staff is helpful. Make sure to bring your rental agreement if you want to get a library card. It's often hard to get a hold of a computer. They're always taken. Check out the upper floors to find a quiet study space. The washrooms on the ground level are often frequented by homeless people.
Beautiful place to relax, read a book and sip on a coffee. Lots and lots of great collections of books and magazines. They also have books in foreign languages which is quite useful. Their rooftop patio is a great place to enjoy a nice book and some fresh air. Helpful staff and great location.
Such a great space! When travelling, my first point is always a library, it helps you find your bearings, find a job and stuff to do, or relax! I think the space is amazing here, great facilities, it’s easy to sign up to gain computer and internet access, well laid out space :)
Lovely building
Favourite place to hide from the world
Great place to study but it can get noisy.
My favourite place.
waste of tax, each floor one toilet :( , closing as soon as you can start study, its a circus not library
Library is really good and beautiful, second floors has publish washroom but it’s gross and super dirty . See many homeless actually take shower there ( yes In the washroom ) and I got my wallet stolen there when I was a international students , being said the safety is indeed a concern .
Great library, shame its full with homeless and drug users..
Friendly staff and management. My favorite branch is Collingwood???????????? Great place to find movies to watch. And also books that teaches you variety of things from health wellness to recipes and also CDs to listen to
Great archives for almost anything that needs research. Accessible hours, friendly helpful staff and volunteers, plethora of materials from children's interactive floor full of games, dvds, and books to the multi media of the third floor to everything else one would expect from a top notch library.
I was been here for a seminar. Seminar organizers are not mentioned the exact place on the invitation. So people who came to the seminar were scattered everywhere and looking for a location. Staffs in the library helped us to locate the exact place. They are very friendly. I was there on the opening time. People were queuing up to enter the library. mostly middle age and the elderly. Never seen that before in my entire life. They are actually hurry to capture the computer :) very cool place .
Love this library, open, well laid out and great staff ????
When I first arrived in Vancouver Canada from Victoria BC the Central library was my preferred location. It's conveniently open until 9 p.m. weekdays. Situated in the downtown core surrounded by lots of restaurants and shops.
Friendly staff very helpful
Love the feel of this place. Large and volumous and dense with nooks and alcoves.
Beautiful place and excellent ambience for studying or reading!
Amazing urban design and a must to visit the roof top section to overview the city
The Vancouver Public Library is a quiet and beautiful place and its staff is helpful.
Have library will travel. This library absolutely rocks. I have always found the staff really helpful and it is rewarding to see how well utilized this library is by the community at large. The multi media collections is almost as impressive as the book and periodical collection. I loved being able to request all the latest BBC Sherlock Holmes DVDs with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Not surprisingly the waiting list was quite impressive but waiting was a better option to not seeing them at all, or forking out the $50 or so to buy each season. I could and have spent hours browsing in this library only to go home with more books than I could possibly read within the borrowing period. Thank heavens for the ability to renew on line function. The clubs and classes that are available via the library is impressive to say the least. I attended the e-book Kobo version and left with the ability to borrow e-book. I prefer the tactile expereice of real books, but borrowing ebooks comes in very handy for trips. I really love that I can also begin learning and practicing Mandarin Chinese on line along with various other languages via VPL. And, don't get me started on how beautiful the architecture!! I always take out of town visitors to the library to show off our modern take on a coliseum VPL management and staff should get a medal for how well they deliver their services and encourage learning and engagement for all age groups and abilities.
It's a massive center of knowledge
The largest library in vancouver. Amazing structure and lots of books in here! They even have recording booths!
Helpful staff, was a quick and easy process
Beautiful building. Amazing library too. Staff members that I interacted with were very kind.
VPL is safe place for everyone, Just a quite place to come read your books, use the internet, print your work and borrow books. One more thing is public bathrooms for anyone to take a shower or use a toilet. There is the open roof, my favourite place to have my lunches. This place is very spacious and achieved with lots of reading materials.
Amazing place to relax work and study
Great architectural design.
Great architectural design.
I like 8th floor, it's nice place to study.
Lovely place, good books.
Good service
Friday prayers on Fridays get really busy in here
Best place to study and have larger collections of books .
A great community resource in an incredible public space. Innovative architecture of the most delighting sort, a Coliseum for the written word.
Circular design with an atrium and roof top access. The library itself is quite quaint, with carpet and footstools straight out of the 80s. The dewey decimal system is still used here, which some younger people might not have seen before. Almost every level has chairs & desks. I was here on a weekday between 4 and 6pm, and there was still plenty of free seats. Level 5 is designated quiet, which I like. The rooftop garden is very nice. Couple of homeless people as other reviewers have noted, but they have the right to use the facilities. 4 security guards onsite, one every few levels.
Nice library, lots of study space. Has a coffee shop inside.
was verbally abused by a drunken male using the computer. No one did anything.
Great library, plenty of seats, the new exhibition space and roof-top terrasse are wonderful.
This library has ALL you need! ????
good
Friendly staff. Very huge library with a great collection of books for all ages (0-80+). Free internet access, in-house children’s play area and washrooms.
Am awesome library to stop, look at the art, take a few photos and appreciate the architecture.
lots of books
Nice library.
A top notch community focussed centre in the heart of the city.
The staff are friendly and helpful. This is a huge library, so there are an unimaginable amount of books. The study spaces are nice and quiet. There are a few interesting parts to discover, such as the recording studio, to name one.
The library staff is very helpful, and the place itself is a nice visit. Very nice building, and a lot of options for a quick snack on the ground floor.
Good
Growing up in Vancouver, the Central Library was one of my favourite hangouts. The sheer volume of books & resources available is a dream come true for any book lover. The architecture is beautiful. I loved this space and still go there when I visit the city.
Always loved been in library's, especially this one, it's ginormous! Tons of books, games, everything and anything you can think of they got it, the staff are very knowledgeable.
Nice place for studying.
I was so impressed! Amazing place.
9/10
The main library, AKA one of the most filmed sites of Vancouver, is definitely a landmark! One of the most unique buildings of the city hosting many resources and friendly staff, all at a great location!
This library is so huge and nice to hang out. This library has so many floors that you can check any book you like. It's a place for me to escape through many books I love to read. As you know, the central library was being filmed twice from two television shows: Supergirl & The Flash
Best place for study
Awesome place! Beautiful design
Has held up well over the years and is world class. Been around a while and the crowd can range from bums, foreign students, and locals. They've opened the 8th and 9th floor rooftop with additional space and security guards. They have nice resources for books, content creators, and anyone that needs to ready , study, or work on a laptop. Wifi is super fast and they have plugs, water, and toilets
Despite covid, the library is open for materials borrowing and computer use (reservation required). THANK YOU Vancouver Public Library !
Great ambience. Clean and friendly staff.
That's great????
One of the best libraries I've been to.
I love Central Library it's great for getting movies for kids and Families wide variety of books as selections as well as the ability to access the archives and the instrument Loan program is really cool you can loan a an instrument like a guitar, drums for 3 weeks also has a recording studio and access to Adobe Photoshop
This public library is very well located in the heart of the downtown of Vancouver. The building architecture is very unusual and very surprising for a library. It looks like a small Coliseum. Nevertheless the building looks a bit old and may need some refreshment. The space is large and there is a lot of choice of books!
Absolutely brilliant library, lots of seating, resources and a great selection of everything you'd ever want. Super helpful staff are always knowledgeable, kind and patient. Such a credit to this city!
Awesome place
Everything related to books and this type of stuff is wonderful. They also offer variety of classes and workshops. The only problem is that washrooms are quite busy and almost always I had to wait for a couple of minutes.
A must visit Library for anyone visiting Vancouver or locals in search of ocean of knowledge
Large beautiful space...with quite a fairly heavy security presence. Also, coming from Ontario, I was surprised and disappointed that wifi is only available to VPL members. Yes, I did see Out of Town visitors could buy a limited time membership :/
The VPL Central Branch is a fair implementation of a Central Library for a diverse community. Although it certainly has the floor space necessary to be a first-rate research library, the leadership of the library seems intent on making it merely into a large branch library, with popular titles leading the way in book purchases. Two thumbs down.
Exquisite library with a great selection.
Best library I've seen throughout the world! * They lend musical instruments such as guitars, violins and wind instruments. * They rent music studios with soundproof walls and equipment. * You can use different types of computers may they be only for web browsing or editing videos, with software. * They rent music and movies on DVD and other digital formats. They have a very easy to use digital bookkeeping website, everything is electronic very quick and easy to access. The librarians are helpful. Opening hours are best fitting. And books after all, great selection, number and mostly up to date, hardcopy and ebook format too. Subscription is almost immediate with some restrictions if you're not a BC resident but accessible to mostly anyone. Incredible.
Love this library it has big selection of different books
The most wonderful library I could be. lots of things to explore, place of exchange and accessible to all. The staff is super nice! the atmosphere is calm, the architecture is great and welcoming.
What can I say? It's an incredibly gorgeous building filled with books. Staff has always been helpful when I've needed it, and the selection of books and materials here is pretty amazing. Try the indoor courtyard for some good people watching.
Nice coffee
Best public library in the earth.
Best place to study downtown (unless you like loud coffee shops), I usually stick to the upper floors as there's less traffic.
Such a large library, with thousand of places for people to sit and study.
Wonderful library, in a beautiful building.
This is the best library I've ever been to! Its big and beautiful, not to mention the staff are so lovely and helpful. We wouldnt have been able to go see Khalid if it werent for their affordable, accesible printers ????????❤
Small but great Wi-Fi undiscovered
Friendly staffs. Borrow the first two books from a library in my life lol. It is not easy to read inside, so checking them out maybe be an alternative.
Beautiful design!
easy to find books & good selection
I love love love this library! I love the architecture, the interior design, the attentive staff, and the thoughtful areas. I also love that Battlestar Galactica was filmed here! Did you know you can book sound booths and recording studios at the library? There are meeting rooms, work areas, snack area, rooftop patio, photocopy and printing stations, and many community events too. Also you can borrow not just books, but audiobooks as well! I just discovered that there are online courses too. Clearly many people put a lot of thought and effort into making this library an amazing place. I just want to say, Great job!! And thank you!!
Very modern building which has been used in loads of tv shows and films.
Love it! Except frequent visits from me!
I've never seen a library like this in my life, except for Seattle's. It's huge, the library has its own recording studios, and the books appear to be almost endless!
Rooftop garden is nice. Good place to study
More than a Library, this is a magical place. I just love it, my favourite Library in the whole planet.
What a feat of architecture to invite the mind to expand. Any question?VPL has your answer
Ideal for self study and computer use.
It is such a beautiful place and there is so much information that u looking for
Best British Columbia library!!
Amazing place to relax and study, huge selection of books, staff are very helpful.
Free printing during COVID woohoo?!!
Usually pretty easy to find a spot to study in there.
Stunning view of Vancouver public library
Very kind staff and pleasant place.
Whenever I have chance I come here and stay in peace, learn and study.
The staff is too helpful. I could scan many maps for free and send them to my e-mail address. Also, I obtained Wi-Fi access for free during one year!
Architecture Incredible
Incredible place, it's immense. It has free activities and a lot of places to read in peace!
Beautiful
This library is so great. I rlly loved the decoration of the inside and out. Worth the visit if your in Vancouver
Love this library
I helped plan a wedding here a few weeks ago here for some friends. They had looked at place after place in terms of trying to find somewhere that they liked, and they settled on the VPL. The staff was delightful to work with - we had established our contract with them about a year in advance. Polite, courteous, professional and forthright. We never had to wait and wonder about responses to our emails. The event was fantastic. I hate doing events in the same place twice, but I'd come back here in a heartbeat!
It is a great place to visit and read a good book. They have lots of great books and workshops and the best thing...¡It's free! :)
Massive public library
Very well organzied with lots of space for quiet study
Gorgeous architecture and perfect place to study
Wonderful place for book lovers
Must see landmark in Vancouver.
One of the nicest library ever. Staff are always very friendly and willing to help me everytime i visit, it either a question or some sort of assistance. 4 floors of unlimited content, many computers and security is always keeping the place quiet and in line and I appreciate that. Defenitley check it out its a 1 of a kind library :) ???? ????
Been here every weekend ever since my move to Vancouver in November. Great vibes, beautiful views, and overall a fantastic place to get work done.
An excellent collection of books and very friendly staff! Deserves all stars in the world.
One of Vancouver's more unique buildings, the VPL is nostalgic for me. I'm not a coffee shop person, so I used to come here to study, get work done, or as a meeting spot. I always made my way up to the fifth or sixth floor by way of escalator, and try to get a desk near a window, especially when it rained or snowed—very relaxing and cosy in its own way. Downtown vibes with the calm and quiet of the library, the VPL always brought out a special feeling, and writing this review elicits a desire to revisit. As some reviewers have pointed out, washrooms are small and not very clean. I've seen on occasion some unsavoury activities openly taking place on the library computers. The shamelessness of some people.
excellent place... free internet... silence.. nice...
Huge community resource. Staff very accomodating for out of town students. Unrelated to their service/location, I noticed some flickering and my desk shook and realized it was a tremor. Not sure I would have felt safe in a quake next to stacks of books lol.
One of the best librarys I have ever seen. This library offer the people a lot knds of services like borrow books by free , quite place to have good time to study alone or with groups even with tutor!
Pre Covid it was great! Almost every kind of book you could think of and lots of places to sit. There's also a nice look out garden area on the roof now. The kid section is really nice too. One of my favourite places to go in Vancouver.
Get off at granville skytrain station and head towards seymor street, you'll find it there... A gigantic amount of books and cds in all genres. You could also rent a studio for free (book online) that includes a chroma screen, 2 head lights, a mixer, speakers, and a 4k awesome video cam. And there is another studio specialized more for music. After the 3rd floor, floors are "quite" floors.... And if you are looking for an art book, most probably you will find that in a locked shelf system,...dont freak out, call a librarian, tell him the book name and code you want, and he will get it for you. Td and other caffes are at the reception of the library. Also check their event boards ???? Enjoy the library, its amazing
Love the place After a tiring time biking all around town I can go in here to charge my phone and rest in their desks for a minute in a nice relaxed environment
Great place to check out. Not only for all the books but for the awesome architecture and shops this building offers. Check it out!
A very cool building design made to look like a Roman Coliseum. It is worth passing to see and walk through, otherwise it is just a library, like any other, but the architecture is worth a pass.
Very neat and quiet and nearly any book at your fingertips
Huge library with a rooftop patio section that wasn't open when I was there
Amazing atmosphere ????????????
Always a favourite downtown destination for me. Not only am I a big reader but the building is so interesting and classy, as well as spacious and peaceful. The relatively new top 2 floors are wonderful, especially the outdoor garden, and having somewhere to eat a snack or lunch that you've brought along is welcome.
I really like coming here to study. But the amount of junkies taking over computers is terrifying. And they are very rude and no one does anything about it. Sometimes they even sleep there.
One of the best libraries in the world ????????????
Big library, many floors. It is a good place. Also if you do not read too much, just go to know the place.
Libraries are the last pure, uncorrupted entity in society and this one is exceptional. My favourite library in the whole world! Absolutely gorgeous architecture and wonderful atmosphere. Lots of places to study in peace. Friendly, helpful staff.
Good place for community services
Great place for study and work In comparison with KIAST public library in South Korea, the KAIST was so much modern and with much better facilities, such as resting/sleep rooms, beautiful outlook , .... But VPL is also good place????
The library it's nice but the city need to clean up that part of the town.
Favourite quiet place in the city!!
Great library, you can find any kind of book, it is huge. Free internet and book borrowing if you have membership. Also very friendly stuff. Only disadvantage is it is ussualy crowded everyday.
Really cool library inside has any book you can think of, and also the views from the top are amazing
great place to study, enjoy a book or even play with your kids! quiet, organized, huge, clean, secure, peacefull etc.. I asked some books to different staff. They were so polite, listen to my needs and gave extra information. one of my favorite places.
Vancouver Public Library is a beautiful venue with great facilities for local and visitor, friendly and helpful staff.
Vancouver Public Library is a beautiful venue with great facilities for local and visitor, friendly and helpful staff.
Amazing place to read, relax and recharge. There are lots of coffee shops nearby, its wonderful to spend Sunday afternoon here.
Friendly staff, great sources of books, free Internet but so many homeless people hanging around here.
Thes best place to chill, read and relax while you're downtown. Free wifi, toilets are clean and the rooftop section is the best part
Amazing stylish place with light everywhere. You will love the attached atrium and retail options!
Beautiful
Great library
Best library ever!!!! ????
I come here just to relax for a few hours or take a break from any heat. Little to no noise whatsoever, as it should be. If you can find a nice spot, you can enjoy yourself a book or use your phone with the Wi-Fi throughout the entire library with no issues.
I loved this library. Here you can find books, movies and much more.. This library is very comfortable.
Pretty good library. At one time 50 years ago, I used the music collection at the main library extensively. At that time they had printed music parts. I went back hopping that collection still existed. No such luck. A disappointment. Keeping parts without them going missing is probably not worth it. Ditto for the UBC music collection.
I love it here. Such a nice environment to study????
Very hot, no hand sanitizers, no where to site. The hours are off right now. Can't complain about the free internet and computers though.
Staffs in here are so kind.
helpful staff
Love this place. Great for meetings on the roof.
The best library in Vancouver
Unique design
Great selection of books, large interior, lots of areas to either work or read for pleasure.
I feel like the best part of this library, aesthetically speaking, is on the outside. Inside, it feels kind of dated and drab. The desks and seats are not matched, and are therefore quite impractical and not at all ergonomic. Long working sessions at them left me with quite severe shoulder pain and fatigued arms. The library should do better to ensure their furniture is ergonomic. There are also a distinct lack of outlets - even at the study desks by the windows. This shouldn't be an issue for such a gigantic space in 2018. Beautifully designed on the outside, poorly designed on the inside (both the space itself and the furniture/fittings.)
A beautiful building to explore. Cute eating spots inside as well!
This place has better internet than my hotel. A great place to study or work.
Remember to use the bathroom before you visit. It's one toilet stall per floor, and there's usually a homeless guy in it.
I love the unique architecture of the building. I recall that this design by Moshe Safdie and DA Architects was a pretty radical design. Looking at it now the design has been extremely durable and looks just as much in place as in 1995. The concourse is a unique space and the elliptical interior walls that enclose this space works well esthetically. Times are a changing and the public's love for physical books are increasingly on the wane. VPL had to move with the tone and as a nod to this trend the library has converted a whole floor to a computer/media lab.
Very nice and clean library. Have enough space for people to read and study there. Love it.
If you go to the main branch of the Vancouver Library please know that they're open but there's no where sit unless you are using one of the library computers.
Beautiful construction with fabulous architecture. It’s a multicultural place that you must visit in Vancouver!
Really want to highlight the creative LAB section, plenty of equipment not only recording studio but workstation with photo/video editing software (I can't mention the name here, u know..) I couldn't find any alternative comparing to VPL in BC
What a great local library. I haven't checked out the books but access to PressReader allows me to download my favourite magazines for free. I look forward to checking out their audio books and streaming catalogues as well.
You can rant many books and use the computer.
This library deserves to be visited by everyone. Firstly, the building is amazing. Shaped like the Colosseum it houses the library itself and multiple venue halls and little stores. And the library itself is huuuuuuge. 9 floors filled with interesting books, places for you to study and even a rooftop garden which is lovely if you want to escape from the busy streets for a second.
It's comfortable to stay and the building is so cool! There have a plenty of books for you to read. If you have passion of reading , this is the perfect location to spend with.
Very good Library with recent books
Love the building. Great selection of books, videos, etc. They even have e-books. VPL you rock.
A place filled with books that looks like the Colosseum and has this cool sign out front? What's not to love, you guys. If libraries and books are your thing, you definitely need to go here.
Recently started visiting this library! It's got a heap load of novels/contents! I think I'll be swinging by as often as I can for studies! Keep it up VPL. Someone's got me inspired!

Terrific service, good hours of operation and a decent selection of titles. I like the Kanopy too.
Amazing resources for the community
This is a great library. It’s got a great selection of books that are regularly updated, plenty of space to sit, and an efficient check out and customer service process. It’s also a beautiful space and the staff are really helpful.
Selection is great for DVDs and book's
Architecture. Rooftop!!! Rooftop!!! Rooftop!!!!
Been only once, definitely want to visit more! So huge! love the buildings.. place is very clean and quiet! a next level Public Library!
It's a great place for everyone.
All the research material I need when I need to write a report
Centrally located downtown Vancouver, this library offers numerous floors of resources, tools, services and of course books. The building is beautiful and usually very busy with locals and even tourists. Great place to spend a few hours exploring. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to staff for outstanding service and kind support. A lovely place to visit with exciting resources. Much appreciated.
Huge and modern library.
We love VPL.
Good selection of books and great for meetup...but too much homeless people
Bright, large and open, the building lends its indoor space upward and outward, inviting visitors to fully enjoy its environment. Friendly and helpful staff everywhere to assist in accessing its vast catalogue. Even with so much traffic, items are usually in good condition, kept neat and tidy on spacious shelves. Areas and floors are clean and quiet / group study areas can be found on the upper floors. Though this is not a close by branch for me, it is by far the preferred one as it has more items available than the other cities' libraries and borrowed items may be returned at other libraries (of nearby cities). As the city grows and changes, this library is successful in adapting to meet the needs.
Beautiful building and deserves to visit at least once.
I just get astounded and lost here (in a good way) The largest selection, something for everyone and I’m grateful we have this lovely place to experience. What a pleasure!
Love the design and the architectural style of this building!
I Could Get Lost In A Library, Spending Hours Reading! Learn Something New Everyday!
Its has a Inspirational Lab on the 3rd floor which provides us a perfect ambiance to focus on projects with high-tech computers and well designed place to sit down and create.
This is a low key Gem in Vancouver. The place is huge. Even though I am not in school I come to VPL when I want to get out of the house and get some work done. They have a ton of books. You can video and audio edit on the computers they have. There is a green screen and a studio you can book and use. It is a comfortable open space with washrooms. Downstairs there is also a coffee shop
This is an amazing place to sit and study. Besides that, the library has in the top floors places to discuss and do group projects and the top floor has a small outdoor garden with a beautiful view of the city. The only thing that could be improved is the close time, that is a little bit early.
Love this place! Their online site is great as well.
An awesome library with wonderful staff! A wealth of books/learning resources/dvd’s etc are at your disposal. A must visit! A proud member of the Vancouver Public Library
What a beautiful building. From the modern, well lit parkade to the lovely rooftop garden, this place feels so loved. The space is clean and the facilities always have a person to talk to. Every floor I've seen has a security guard, and they make sure everyone is social distancing and wearing their mask. There are places to eat and drink that give a much needed respite in this time of chaos.
I absolutely love this library.
One of my favourite places to go. Beautiful architecture and a huge library.
Best best
Lovely library
6 floors of Library with a roof top that's prime for photo opportunities, plus they let you drink in there! But no food?
It's not bad and the high score is almost all because the staff are all of a calibre higher than any other library I've visited in recent years.
Great selection of pretty much everything
Lots of space to study with well lit desks by big windows.
A large splendid library! No wonder it is listed as one of the must-go “tourist” place! There are totally 9 floors with many collections of books and nice space to read and/or study! There is also a top-floor garden! Many places for drinks and eats at the second floor right outside the library! If it is not a bit far from where I live, I definitely wanna come here more frequently!!!
vancouver is beautiful
modern and up to date new technology . easy to find your interest of books and comfort environment.
Beautiful building reminding a Roman Coliseum. The library is very well organized with an awesome collection and very friendly service. If you live here you may become a member (free) and doing so you will be able to place hold for future readings online.
Came here to borrow a few business books. I was amazed at the wide variety of selections they had available.
I've been to a few libraries but this one excitingly big, there are several floors of different book's categories. You can bring in closed-lid beverages, and enjoy a good book on one of the many seats available.
Great place to relax or study. Cool architectural design.
It’s a super great place to study, read and use the computer.
Great library. Massive selection, good internet and washrooms. Can't ask for anything more.
Beautiful library
Great place for babytime activity. Not many people attending the morning session. If you prefer smaller group, this is the place. Friendly staff and overall clean floor for your little one to play.
Looks like Coliseum
Awesome place of Studying.
I was exploring the rooftop of the library for my upcoming photo shoot. It’s amazing. So open and there are not too much people. There some spots with beautiful light outside and inside on the 8 and 9th floor. Beautiful view of the streets.
Nice place to come and learn. It's huge.
Big library, super cool that you can rent instruments here, the garden on top is nice to look around and take photos
Awesome library! I'm really really glad of it's presence. Browse for the book you want and put a hold on it, you will be notified when it's ready to be picked up!
The childrens area is to die for. Great architecture, quiet and peaceful too.
I love that place
Staff are always helpful.
Despite the added protocols enacted to help stem the spread of the COVID virus cleaning and library staff are doing a bang up job of keeping the facility safe and clean!! Thank you for all your hard work and diligence that keeps our library open.
favourite library in vancouver! it is really big and has many levels. lots of selection and desks. they have a blenz and bubble tea shop just outside the entrance. only downside is that you have to pay for parking - bad if you plan to spend the whole day studying there. If you transit, then it is okay. I also think that they NEED to wash their windows more frequently. Its covered in bird poo and dust :/ during final season, make sure to come early or else it might be difficult to find a table near windows!
Great by the slice pizza. Two slices equal half a large pizza - and are definitely filling.
VPL's main branch is stunning. There are tons of resources, the staff are helpful, and it feels like you can spend the whole day there. I really loved the rooftop garden - the view from up there is spectacular.
Excellent place to be for read.
Pretty good, the blenze has opened up again!!
Beautiful and peacefull place
Very nice book collection. I prefer MTL´s city library though...
NEW HOURS: Check new hours before visiting! The hours posted on google maps are not currently correct. I came all the way downtown and paid from r parking before finding out they close early now! (Otherwise a great library)
A magical place. A rare jewel.
Beautiful architecture, useful place to gain knowledge
Great place to study with fast wifi and quiet atmosphere.
Special place for books and readers.
Place is great for studying and complex research really helpful staff and they have a lot on many many different topics
Arguably the best library in the world: huge collection of books on all kinds of topics, modernized technology like e-books or audio books that help share knowledge, also great use of space that allows people to have peace and quiet while studying/reading. It is an instant love once you walk into the facility. Love, love this library!
This is where I study. Although there's free WiFi, it's easier to get distracted by the books.
No world can explained the good experience in this amazing library’s
Super helpful librarian, looked up our numbers after two years away and helped us find the great selection of kids spanish books.
great books. ????????????
Appeared in quite a few movies (eg. The 6th Day, This Means War). The largest public library in Vancouver. Closest Skytrain station is Vancouver City Centre/Granville Station. Washrooms are small and not the cleanest.
Well actually I really like this library but I ranked it 4* because of working hours. In fact I become disappointed when I see casinos working hours and compare it to libraries working hours. I really wish working hours of this library could be extended as there are many students who wish to study at nights and they can't as there is parties or gatherings around at night. Thank you
This is by far the most beautiful Library I have ever been in - I would even put it above the new library in Calgary. The rooftop offers remarkable views & there are so many resources available! Want yo check out an electric guitar for 3 weeks? How about a hand drum? Want to check out 50 books at one time? Free sound rooms to use? Free Adobe photoshop? VPL truly offers it all!!
#Amazing #library, with the Team we love to come here and brainstorming before our #businessmeeting
Great range of books and helpful staff. Environment is fine too.
Books films and more.
Asthetically pleasing architecture. Central location.
This place is AMAZING!!! Congrats for the beauty and pleasure local to learn and spend the time reading!!! I live it! In my opnion, is the most interesting place to visit!

Awesome
Wow. Thats what I can only say.
The Main library was quite immense. Went to use the ancestry.ca, heard that we can use for free the website. Washrooms not to well marked on the floor, also didn't look that hard. Ended up going to the bottom floor ( from the sixth floor).
The free courses are so good! The staff is super friendly. Love this place. Could spend hours together here.
Love this place staff is very courteous and helpful. Lots of facilities like recording studios, inspiration lab and rooftop garden to name a few are excellent and regular events and workshops. Security guards are also very helpful.
Just love hanging out here. Great selection of books not every book but something on every genre
Great library and wonderful space.
One of the best
Books and books it's good for children and you
The library is not accepting book drop offs unless they are open. I tried to check this prior to going there and it is not listed on Google or their website. In the 2 minutes I was there 5 other people tried unsuccessfully to return their books. Update your info.
VPL is great!
Great resource centre of my life and for everyone. I thanks Canadian government, social welfare programs and all tax payers. i wish my own country have one like this. cheers!
What an amazing building. Well worth a visit.
too big and hard to find books
Excellent rooftop patio
I am totally in love with the library. It is well designed, well lit, well equipped, and very conducive for learning / researching / reading. The other feedback mentioned that there might be "interesting characters" in the library, but I did not encounter any. The security seems to be very alert and is doing a wonderful job to ensure the environment is pleasant for everyone. Tip: In order to use the free wireless network in the library (which is extremely fast), you just need to bring your ID and proof of address in Vancouver, to the front desk and request for a free Vancouver Public Library (VPL) membership + card. The process is done instantaneously and seamlessly. Perfect!

great place of great people
Lots of tables available for study, though sometimes there will be weirdos hanging about (had a drunk try to get handsy once). But for the most part staff are jovial and helpful.
Amazing staff and great location
Great space!
Always a pleasure to visit such a beautiful place!
You can borrow a book or a music instrument. Need a recording studio? Book a sound booth in their Inspiration Lab. If you don't know how to work with the recording software, you can ask for their help. The equipments are not very professional but it is really helpful. It is worth to try :)
Great place to charge your phone if you need a power outlet for that extra bit of charge.
Awesome place to study
Enormous, easy to find books and architecturally based of the colluseum
Great architecture, spacious, nice collections of books along with internet, dvd's etc..
Awesome place to come study if you are UBC student living downtown and do want to go all the way to campus. The rental programs are awesome: you can take out anything from books and movies to video games and instruments. Also, a big shout out to the staff who are always super helpful and friendly!
I love this location so much. I've been going through a hard time and needed an escape...as soon as I walked in the doors, I was greeted with the nostalgic smell of books (like an elementary library), retro clocks, peaceful environment and a sense of community. It is truly my happy place and I hope it never changes!
Excellent Location
Beautiful library. Did you know you can access services online too? Check out overdrive!
This is the largest public library in Vancouver, as it is the central main branch in the downtown core. There are rooms and halls to rent for venues, and some small shops on the exterior and also inside the main foyer. Very accessible by public transit. It has beautiful modern Roman coliseum style architecture. #letsguide #books #bookworm
I go to this library once a week. There is a ton of books what are written by different languages. I love to surround books and having little rest. Here is one of best place in Vancouver.
Real people and always entertaining.
One of my favorite buildings in Vancouver!
one of the best library in the world:)
Supergirl filmed here for S2... just btw
A great public service in Vancouver. I really enjoyed their collection of books and other materials. Will visit again. Thank you once again.
Easy place to study and relax
Only place I can focus!
Really nice spaces, including a rooftop garden that's publicly accessible. And of course tons of books and musical instruments to borrow.
I loved the place for children
Gorgeous building, incredible skyline/rooftop garden view, quiet and spacious study areas, free wifi, and goodness gracious: every public library needs their Inspiration Lab! Staff is super helpful and efficient. Easily my new favorite library.
Thousands of books nd many of the computers available
Ten stars really. A local hub for a lot of local colour! I absolutely love the garden patio on the ninth floor. You can bring your lunch to munch on the eighth floor. Third floor you can record your next release or podcast. Second floor you can borrow instruments too! Wow!
amazing place to work and study
It is a great place but the bathrooms need some cleaning!
The library seems larger inside than it looks from the outside. It contains large collection of various books and media content, along with many seating areas spread across each floor. The top floor has a cafeteria-style seating and access to the rooftop; not much of a view but its nice to have it. It’s a great place for reading or doing work and studies in this unique architecture building, with small shop counters on the first floor.
By far my favourite library. I love the architecture of it, the space, internet connection, the amount of books available, the free recording studio on the second floor, and pretty much everything else it has to offer. I've seen hundreds of libraries, but not one gets close to this one!
Excellent place. I can smell knowledge inside. I love spending time at VPL.
One of the biggest libraries in Metro Vancouver, and packed with books, DVDs, Blu-rays, and others, this is one of the best libraries for borrowing items. My only desire is that they expand their anime Blu-ray section, as the titles are few and far-between. Great place otherwise!
The rooftop garden is a surprise every season. I am planning to share the pictures for every season here. Now is winter at night.
Great building and well run library.
What a place! good for study or keep your mind in peace!
My favourite place. Books books books. Shelves for new books just published. Shelves of favourite older books. Computers and printers to use. Staff always helpful. Have never left without a book or magazine
Its alright ????
One word “Beautiful”
The most amazing place
Wonderful building with a huge collection of books and lots of seating for some quite reading/studying.
It was amazing.
Love this place.
Haven’t had direct contact with any of the people who work here but everyone seems to be extremely nice. Everyone keeps to themselves. It’s pretty busy, kind of noisy at times, but hey; just bring your headphones.
As a guy who looks to work remotely while consulting around other states and countries, I found the Vancouver Library to be a great place to visit because they have an extensive collection of materials for use. Outside is fun because you get something to read and sit in the court outside and enjoy yourself. The architecture of the building is absolutely beautiful and a joy to look at.
Great place to study
Love this magical place!!
big fan of the VPL
If you want a quiet place to chill and read / study, head up to the upper floors and find a desk by the window. Be prepared to cruise down the aisle, as only a few desks have outlets for your laptop. I like the 5th floor, but don't bother me. They have a new inspiration lab on the 3rd floor with workstations for video editing and such, plus audio recording rooms and more. Weird notes: the bathrooms are pretty busy, and random hobos are always napping.
Massive catalog of books, huge areas full of computers and study space. Obviously the biggest and best library in Vancouver.
Everybody loves the library!
Great place to study and place to relax
It's not just the best library in Vancouver - it's a contender for the best lightweight library in the world. Amazing design and atmosphere.
What a lovely place! Full of working stations, reliable internet, many books collections and a great terrace for people to relax and connect with nature
The older parts don't look like much, but I'm a frequent user of the Inspiration Lab! Floor 8 and 9 are also pretty cool (meeting rooms, large laptop hall, mini theatre, nicer bathrooms and water fountains, view of the Rogers Arena).
VPL is like the poor-man’s Blockbuster. Place a hold on the latest movies or TV series on DVD or Blu-ray. Great selection of feature films and kids videos. Friendly and helpful staff. Renew items online with VPL app. Vancouver Inspiration Pass is awesome for young families, get free admission to Science World, Aquarium, MOA, VAG, and many more local venues.
Excellent help from SOFIA!!! Wonderful ????????????
Many modern building designs are based on historical icons, but few of these designs focus on the ruins rather than the original. The Central Library of Vancouver is an exception. Based on the Roman Coliseum, this massive building takes up one full city block and features not only a library with 1.3 million reference materials, but also retail shops, restaurants, a parking structure, office buildings and a rooftop garden. You enter the Central Library through a huge skylit concourse, which contains shops and cafés and acts as an urban gathering point. Bridges inside the library connect to reading and study areas in the outer walls. Plans are under way to reclaim two of the building’s top floors from other tenants in order to expand the rooftop garden and make it accessible to the public. Open seven days a week.
Fairly easy parking, lots of student-friendly/family-friendly spaces, friendly staff, huge selection of books and other media.
Best place ever
It is quite an impressive library, with an immense volume of literature on every topic imaginable. Case law on mines in British Columbia? They've got a whole aisle for it! The staff are always friendly and helpful, and will either show you where something is in their collection, (including the aforementioned aisle of mining law) or if they don't have it, will direct you to another library in the city that will. The entire facility is very clean, well-maintained, and architecturally appealing. The rooftop garden is worth a look, too!
Amazing urban design and a must to visit the roof top section to overview the city
Beautiful architecture and great location
Unique architecture for a library - just beautiful for weddings and other special events.
This Library is amazing! Go and check the rooftop.
Forget Starbucks. Good WiFi with 6 massive floors of quiet, semi-private study desks, most with outlet power available. Much more ergonomic, much more conducive to getting work done, and free! Not a lot of bathrooms though, so if you can't get your business done with a urinal you might have to wait in line.
Hard to find a book that I need. Either they are in others hands or they don't have them. And some weirdos walk around to spread their religion lol building is awesome for sure. Bring your own book to study, listen to music, don't ever respond to weirdos. That's how you use this library.. phew..
Really cool temperature in the hot summer. Staffs are friendly!
Free wifi for the members
I can find all the books that I need, it's great place to done assignments
Excellent facilities and very few people lately.
The children's area in this library is great. I had no idea how many books and resources they have, and the staff are very helpful and patient. They know a lot about kids books. thanks VPL
Homeless central Place is gross. Since when did this become a homeless center? It's disgusting.
Not what I expected to be honest and definitely not worth the wait
This library is big! The entire basement is for kids, with lots of books and stuff that can keep our kids occupied while we take a breather and post this review...
Cool looking building, library is pretty good too
This is the best library I’ve ever seen! There are so many books in this library and also they have Japanese, Chinese, Korean and other language books. I just love this place so much.
Nice place. Big and confortable
I love this library, its awesome.
The most beautiful library in the world! An architectural gem in a sea of glass buildings. Voted #6 of the top 20 libraries in the world by Travel & Leisure magazine.
Incredible!
I love that I can borrow music instrument here and get access to services.
This place is huge! Was amazed with the how much choice this place has. Although wish it were closer to me I would've been there every evening!
They told me I cant eat in the library!
This is the best library in Vancouver! It is well designed, well lit, well equipped.Very convenient location. excellent atmosphere. very quite and peaceful. Always my go to place for a quick read.
Very nice place to just go for peace and quiet, but I went there to vote. Found my way quite easily to voting stations.
Great space, wide selection, and a wonderful top two floors with a pleasant study room. It’s my go-to study space.
Love this place
It is such a hidden gem in Downtown. They have 9 floors plus basement. If you are just visiting Vancouver check out their architecture from outside (it was place for so many tv shows) and also their rooftop and take a nice view of the city. On the way down stop by the 7th floor and check out their Special Collection and find out a little bit more about story.
My son and I were visiting Vancouver, walking around the city, and we saw the public library. The building was fascinating and we had to go take a look inside. We didn't have a card since we weren't locals but no one seemed to mind. I loved that there was a string of food and drink places in the sheltered area across from the library main entrance. It was beautiful and relaxing. The whole place had a warm inviting atmosphere where you felt welcome to browse or sit and read.
Big library. Lots of dry paper, words and carpet. Staff does their jobs. Washrooms generally have lighting. There are several exits to choose from. Other people were there while it was open. The area has parking with paid timers. There is space between the book shelves for walking. Pencils are complimentary. Happy birthday to you and your family and friends. I am not sure if you have any questions or need any further information please contact me at the end of the year and I will be in the future of our games are based on the other day and I will be in the future of our games are based on your car or truck and trailer is a good idea but I have a great day and I will be in the future of our games are based on the other day and I will be in the future of our games are based on.
Good library
It was EXCELLENT!! I went in to to get a library card ( which I really should have done AGES AGO!!). ANYHOO, the guy at the desk was very fast and efficient!! KUDDOS!! ☺️. ( If only I could have figured out how to get into the building that fast!????)
If you’re looking for the after hour book drop box, it’s on Hamilton st across from CBS radio building entrance.
Great place with a lot of books, and many rooms to work.
they say one of the floors is haunted ????
Nice, but what is with the bankers hours? some branches are open longer than this "central" Library, out of the three times I have dropped in to see it ...closed every time, seriously this is downtown not Hicksville.
Amazing place for books, but watch your stuff. Homeless people prowl the area and steal your stuff.
Plenty of spots to plug in the laptop and get some studying done. Gets busier in the afternoon. The 5th floor is the quiet area which overall most of the floors are quiet anyway. Overall a great place if you want to stay focused on what you're doing.
Great place thank you
Great place to visit but I am shocked to see that their is no punjabi book to read
Must visit place in Yaletown, Vancouver. A great architectural piece. You can go to the roof top and enjoy the view of Vancouver. Amazing collection of books, audiobooks and TV shows etc. I got my Library card within 10 minutes. You just need to carry your ID and proof of address. Very quite place and good seating arrangement for students to study.
World class facility. Lots of good things. Nice children's library. Shops.
it's hardly ever open at the times most people can actually go there, we the public were forced to pay a fortune for something we can rarely use
This library is architectally stunning. The skyline is absolutely beautiful from the 9th floor terrace. So much space and lots and lots of study areas and books to choose from. There were security guards around to make you feel safe in a huge public area. However, there are MANY signs stating beware of thefts of personal possessions.
Not enough staff, some children books are broken, the play area is really small which I do not mind, but is unsupervised by staff and let entitled mothers and nannies bully others trying to use the same space. I had one ocassion where a lady was letting her wild child who was way bigger than all the toddlers there, to be rude with other children and take toys from them. She then was also taking toys from babies so her daughter could have them all, to the point she couldn't wait for my 1 yo to stop playing with a wooden spoon and demand ot from us, told her off but no one was there to out some order. Told staff and they did not do anything. There are rules and they should be implemented as the space is for everybody. Apart of that the other sides of the library are good and there is plenty of material around. A little outdated and full of sketchy people, but as long as you are careful with your things there should be no problem.
so special archtecher and many books
Unique designed building.
Love the new rooftop garden! I'm always amazed with how many services this library provides.
Big, great place for students, moms and good customer services. Who's crazy enough to build this?
Awsome:)
Uhm... W O W !? This is by far my *favourite* library in probably the whole entire Lower Mainland. I come all the way from f*cking Richmond because it's so nice. It has nine floors, so you can tell the selection of books will be outrageous. They have LOTS of space to study, read, or just relax and have a quiet time. They also have a rooftop garden with a SPECTACULAR view. You can see BC Place from here. Even if you live far, I recommend coming here on a day trip just to check it out. I came here because I wanted a new environment to study in, and although it took me nearly an hour to get here, I don't regret any of it. I plan on coming back many times to study, or just to chill.

Great library with friendly staff. Impressive recording studio.
The rooftop garden is beautiful! There's a quiet reading room too. Open to the public.
Great library, plenty of selection. Staff is friendly and know their stuff. Inspiration lab builds on their tradition of staying at leading edge. Tax dollars well spent. Keep it up VPL.
Nine floors of beautiful book space! They hold really amazing events as well. I do wish they had some more outlets
The importance of libraries was instilled in me from a young age, because my mum is a librarian. My 1 star review does not reflect on the importance of the VPL, it reflects my displeasure that the VPL has opted to contravene its own terms and conditions by allowing a hateful individual a platform to speak. The VPL proudly displays a safe spaces decal, yet they refuse to stand with marginalized people and actively create safe space, despite outcry from LGBTQ2+ communities. I will reconsider my review if the Vancouver Public Library reconsiders its stance.
Awesome it is
Great Library.
Really nice place. Has lots of selection of books to choose from
Always awesome
Don't sit in the wrong place, put your feet up on the wrong surface or have a power cord too long or security will be on you to enforce arbitrary rules. There is a precise norm of behavior, not rules, a norm, and if you disagree with the over protective rent-a-cops the real cops are called...Over a power cord.... A symptom of a nNannystate ? A police state ? I dare say yes. The architecture of the VCL is fitting, it reminds one of pedantic Roman curves and the sadism that took place inside the Colosseum. The idea of the library, to improve ones self in quiet contemplation, has given way to what is essentially a community center for narcissist. What is one to do when a librarian is the loudest person on a floor. What is one to do when one wishes to be left alone in study or meditation but is accosted by blind pettyness. It's not just the grey sky and fridgidity of vancouverites that makes it an unlivable city (Unless you're rich), it's the million little indignities.
Good helper here!
Office is very RUDE
Woz readin and readin bucks in dayer bud da man sayin te me dat ma kind of pron magz or knot allowed in his library cos children theyre to
Great space to work.
Great selection of young adult fiction and non fiction
I love this place even though I'm not a Canadian. Really envy you guys so I wanna take it to my country???? haha but it's impossible....so I will try to build a more tremendous library in Seoul!
Did not serve me the breakfast menu items even though it was before 11:30am
Friendly staff, great place to get work done. Hard to find seats unless you go to the higher levels.
Accessible and well equipped library with friendly staff. Most of all, this building is so beautiful, it worth visiting just for sightseeing.
It's such a beautiful, comfortable and quiet place. It is a place that many international students use, and there are so many memories. I hope it will be well preserved for a long time.
Great location to study and surrounded by local restaurants all in one spot.
Great place to study
Every floor has a different feel, suited every kind of work I might need to do.
Great library, and the web sight is amazing.
Really huge library with beautiful architecture. There are some little shops in the atrium to visit in between reading sessions.
This is one of the best coliseum-shaped library in the world!
Dreadful "library". So many homeless/addicted people spending all day in the library and asking patrons for money. The place has to be regularly cleaned for bedbugs and the managers are hopeless at managing. The women's toilets are no longer safe as men are invited into them in the name of so-called equality. I now buy my books from Amazon.
Ginormous library! Has computers available and printing, and bus schedules to pick up. Has a few cafes and stores with a few little things like notebooks and whatnot inside of the main building, outside of the library proper.
Big Library , love it .....
This is the best library I've ever been to! First of all, it's a very quiet place to study. The staff is helpful. Also, the library is very large and has a beautiful design. There is a huge selection of books (even in some other languages).
Beautiful building helpful staff an absolutely tranquil place to catch up on some good novels
Amaizing place for studying, thinking and meetings!
A lot of books for books lovers. Find a day to visit. If you like building design, it's have history building.
Staff was very helpful I find my books and recommending books.
The best library in the world. Perfect customer service, great collection of books and user friendly website. Love everything about VPL????????????
This library is awesome. I am here in Vancouver on holiday, and I needed to print a document, they have temporary library cards for you to use, and it seems like everyone who works there love their job. So in turn, they offer great customer service.
The selection within the library is amazing! It's my go-to place when looking for new books to read. They have sections dedicated per floor and the building itself is beautiful! There's also a newly renovated floor where you can sit outside and read at the top floors.
Best library I have ever come across. Like the architecture, light and space. Even if you do not want to use it, you have to see it. I use it preety frequently when I need to get focused on a project. Internet is fast, lots of space on your desk. I am not a big book lover, but need them from time to time for educating on business or personal development. Most of the books I am looking for are available or can can be shipped from a different branch pretty quickly. And yes, it is all free. Way to go Vancouver.
VPLis an absolute dream. Not only is it a wonderful library, but it is also one of the greatest spot in the city, and I appreciate that all of the employees are so helpful and kind.
Good view and lots of study desks.
Perfect
A must visit place. This library is a Wonderful resource for unique collection of books, magazines, newspapers, music, movies and other such knowledgeable stuff. An ideal place to research local history and also to browse through collection of self published books by local authors. Their digital collection is also awesome which one can download from the comfort of ones home and research the database. This library has reading material in sixteen other world languages other than English.
World class library. Come read books if you wish to be smarter...
Beautiful facility that has multiple levels. There are also some shops on the outside. Great location in the middle go downtown Vancouver aswell. Nice place to visit if you aren't from the area.
Well run and thoughtfully laid out !!
Perfect for a rainy day... or any day. I love this library. It’s so big and it has so many things to do with kids. There’s an amazing rooftop with an incredible view in where you can just hang out, read a book, or have a snack. At the Lower Level of the library you can find an entire section just for kids. They have all kinds of books in different languages, toys, tablets with educational games, and different activities for each day of the week like story time or puppet shows.
Amazing reading and relaxing place right in the centre of the busy downtown. Arts exhibits and rooftop garden are impressive, so the spectacular architecture.
Great staff, beautiful building-lotsa books !
ALL TOO OFTEN ... when I visit the Central Branch, too noisy, in areas designated for quiet .... ONE PATRON in particular, LOUD, constant mumbling.... in 90+ minutes, this continued, NO security patrol came around to whom I'd have been able to ask the person to quieten down.....
Easy pick up and checkout functions
This place is AMAZING!!! Congrats for the beauty and pleasure local to learn and spend the time reading!!! I live it! In my opnion, is the most interesting place to visit!
Good study location on the upper floors.
Told the staff and old chinese guy was watching porn, the librarian shrugged it of like it was no big deal, i mean what is this world coming to its like no one cares
Thank you for being open
Amazing architect!!
So I just went yesterday It is humongous with 9 levels and a rooftop garden!
Nice place
Excellent service!
Great place!
So glad to be able to enter and use library,,Finally
A huge library that is stunning from the inside and outside.
Great library....love it ????
9 floor library..beautiful view
It have an Arabic books for ages, and good service ????????????
This is an amazing library with over a million well-organized books along with other resources. Nice place to read in a good atmosphere.
It's the best place to work. There is something for everyone.
This has become my favourite library worldwide. I used to prefer Seattle's but I've come to really enjoy this one. Pros: 1. Loads of desks (my primary need for a library), many even have power! They also allow drinks at desks which is great for my coffee streak. 2. Quiet, and peaceful setting 3. SpeedTest reports 187 mbps 4. Many coffee shops in the area to get a drink from. 5. Open until 8 PM most days of the week. 6. Staff are really nice (I don't interact with staff much but when I do they're great!) Cons: 1. Closes early on Fridays 2. Has become very busy, looking forward to the top two floors opening). Notes: 1. There's quite a lot of space to put more desks in, may be worth considering as that is increasingly the most popular usage of a library. Perhaps we should build more libraries downtown? 2. The musical instruments sound studio concept is awesome! I think it would benefit from more advertising. Finally Keep being awesome VPL!
nice building, good studio but teh god damn papers would not print fast enough, like ****
The great quiet place to work or study in downtown. There are many desks and chairs.
I appreciate that their staff are very friendly and that they have security guards and cameras on every floor. Thank you for this wonderful resource where I can read and study and enjoy reading rooms and use their computers and printers
Great building. A lot of academic resources.
Biggest library ever. Wide range of books. Great staff. Very structured library.
found a fish in a book.
They have books here
Excellent facility. If you need to feel better about the basic skills it requires to use the services of this library, or any library in fact, just read the 1* reviews. It always provides a good laugh.
Awesome place
What do I need to say? Love Vancouver Public library. Love Love Love! Open for locals, tourists and everybody. Beautiful building and amazing amount of materials. Books, magazines, Dvds, musics, etc... Love the open area of the roof top and open spaces. I appreciate for great works of all staff all the time!
Not too busy but good place to visit on a rainy day.
Libraries are good, this one is no exception
EXCELLENT service and selection. One of the best libraries in the world.
It is situated in the best part of Vancouver and opens till 9 pm. I especially appreciate that they have plenty of computer workstations nearly every floor. However, I feel that the place is not well ventilated during peak hours. They also hold different workshops. I attended one about online security and it is more practical and useful than what I thought.
Quiet and cozy library with friendly, helpful, positive and very patient staffs. Even the security guy is very welcoming. They have books, magazines and newspaper for all ages and in many languages. They also have a small section near the entrance that sells old books at a very afforable price. Everthing is well-organized and it looks like everyone is aware of it, since no one ever takes a book and not leaves it back to its original place. There are postings everywhere on the wall. If notice, you can find some useful information about the upcoming events that you may find yourself interested in. I read it once I figured it out that they were giving away free picture books for kids, so I asked them for one and they actually gave it to me (cute haha).
Ecstatic
Best location for studying or for some quiet time reading a book. There are a few convenience stores inside and a coffee shop too.
One of my fave places of all times! Really wishing for it to open up the study rooms again! Pleease
Staff always affable and very informed at the position they occupied; something for all age's. A true Canadian Gem!
Great staff and selection
If it has free wifi, that will be perfect
Thank you for being open!!!
Great place to study, lots of selection and seating. Central to everything.
Vancouver down town peninsula is Canada’s most beautiful west coast cosmopolitan city surrounded by mountains, beaches and Stanley Park’s forest. It has many public libraries and the one in west Georgia street is a famous one. You can spend your time there. You can say it’s a great blessing to Jane at the down town. Children can spend their time safely and improve their knowledge. They are having WiFi access and work spaces. Their meeting rooms are very good. They are having unique collections of books in all the departments. It is very nearer to the public transit. One can make use of their time in this library
One of beautiful building I ever seen in my life. Circular shape and material to pile up the building is highly attractive. More importantly it is a library. A number of people visit and stay to look for resources. Some people use this place to host their wedding inside. The real public place is right here. Thank you, Van City!
A World Class Library in a World Class Library System. If you cannot find what you are looking for, the Library will find it (even if it is not in the VPL System) and get it for you in quick measure.
The best library in the lower mainland.
Beautiful and quiet placer to study
Warm cozy and lovely study environment
I used to study there! employees are very kind and nice :) so I miss this library????
Great place to study. I recommend the top floor!
The view on the 9th floor is not that impressive due to all the other surrounding buildings. But on a nice day it is great to go and read on the patio!
Very dirty library in terms of it never gets cleaned....tables and chairs are never cleaned...be careful not to sit on pee! The location is great, the size is great, the selection is old....
super clean and beautiful library in the heart of downtown Vancouver. I find it to be far better than the ones in Burnaby as far as aesthetic and book inventory goes. Will definitely be returning when I can.
It's a treasure house!
Wow, this place is paradise for students and book lovers. Not only does this place have a huge collection of books, they have computers, activity rooms, recording studio, green room, terrace garden, cafeteria, and is right in downtown Vancouver. It has 9 levels which can be accessed by elevators or escalators. Very systematic and organized. Staff is very helpful. Thank you VPL for a wonderful time.
After making many visits here to use the computer, my heavy jacket with gloves and an umbrella inside got stolen two chairs away from where I was sitting during my most recent visit. I filed a report, but my belongings didn't turn up. I asked if the CCTV recordings were viewed or can be viewed, but I was told there were no CCTV cameras in that area of the library. And when I told them this has never happened to me during previous visits, they then told me that area of the library is a target for thieves. I don't understand why a target area doesn't have CCTV cameras around while a non-target area does.
A Terrific addition to the city centre. Although the library system dates back about 150 years, and has 22 branches, the new-ish (23 years) centrally located library is the "Jewel in the Crown". It provides many important services as well as multiple special programmes-- of considerable interest to residents and visitors... The first impression, when one approaches it, is the unusual/inspired architecture [and, its selection was judged by the residents]. The theme reflects the "new and the old"- as does Vancouver. Nearby is Robson street, well known for its varied shoppes, restaurants etc. It is a definite "Must See"-- especially on a "rainy day". I hope that this Review was useful.
In the inspiration Lab.
The public washrooms for women and little girls are not safe anymore, since men with gender confused minds under the claim "i think I am a woman"are allowed to use the woman's washroom as well. So, check who is already in the washroom before you use it since library failed to protect you.
I love the children's section at the central branch! It is a whole floor for children to explore and you don't have to worry about little ones being noisy. The staff are super kind and helpful! There are small play areas, colouring tables, tablets for kids to use and many more small areas for older kids too. We LOVE the story time with Francesca!! She is the best ever! So atuned to the children and the mood of the group on any day. She does a great mixture of repeated well loved and new songs, great books, getting the kids up and shake out their sillies and gives quick knowledge for the grown ups as well in between. Its a great place to go for free in the city, to enjoy books and kindness and a welcoming warm place to be.
Love this library. Sarah was really friendly and helpful!
The library is a wonderful place for kids and adults alike. The Central library is beautiful, with several floors, a rooftop space and even a musical instrument lending library!
Vancouver is lucky to have a landmark as this.
Found an couple PS5 video games and great community service and support.
The staff here are polite and helpful especially when you’re having hard time looking for certain books. However, as the weather gets hotter everyday, I hope they use the air-conditioning or else it is going to extremely hard to stay indoor and suffocating.
You have everything you need at VPL Central.Vast selection of books, approachable staff and the study corner was all so great!Thank you Canada for putting up an outstanding project for your people.
Great design and wide range of book selections. A lot of events for different age groups and other services. Great place for studying or group meeting. They also have some cafes and restaurants just outside the library. Great location!
Good for studying
A world class library!
Great place to study
Was glad when the library reopened. They have made it comfortable to come back. Hoping eventually we'll get the top floor patio open again.
Awesome
Great place to visit, more than just a library. Iconic landmark for Vancouver
I love this library
Great place to study. Cool architectural and interior features.
Books are easy to find and cosy place. Washrooms are quite clean. Just a bit too crowded at times.
Honestly, great library. Helpful and genuinely nice staff willing to go out of there way to help you. I live outside of Vancouver and every time I visit this library it has been a great experience.
Few computers available with long lines.
Good place to go. Hope have more books in inventory
Programming that can't be beat: events, workshops, training sessions, services, gallery shows, discussions...you name it. Impressive multilingual selection, helpful staff. A place I always go to to access the Adobe creative suite, borrow a few detective novels, or just get lost in the central branch :)
Library slowly opening. Mostly still closed.
Great place and great staff!
Lovely library with lots of books to choose from in every section. Nice layout and lots of room to study and to work (and lots of materials to help you). Lots of foreign languages books and there's food near by. Friendly staff always helpful
It should be open 24 hrs. It’s a library but you feel like you are going to sleeping Center. It will be full of homeless people that are sleeping on chairs in cold weather and also one time I found bed bugs on me because of the chair that I used.
Wonderful civic service at no cost, how can you beat that!
One of the best libraries in Vancouver. Huge library with great staff and nice work/study stations.
If you want to see every homeless in Vancouver and every thief in downtown : "Central Library "
Nice.
Amazing
It is too big but otherwise a nice place
Amazing library! Every library in the USA should study and replicate this one.
Great library. Friendly staff. Lots of books and selection as well a lots of digital resources.
the worst staff of any public library in Metro Vancouver
Really nice library great amenities... Except the bathrooms that are cramped and poorly designed. Would be nice to have a water bottle filling station too
J'adore
Anthony
Got to check out the library here twice in Vancouver last summer. Large and soaciosp with a lot of book selections. Was in the Social Sciences area just reading books. I like how quiet it is as well and very kind employees who were there to help out and give guidance.
Some of the staff at the Central Library are still rude and/or clueless. I was expecting more from the new regime. The security also give prolonged angry stares- even if all you are doing is checking books out of the library. Highly unprofessional.
Friendly and helpful staff. Thanks a lot
Stunning library!
Located in the best area of downtown, surrounded by plentiful of great foodie places. If you're in need of a place to rest or break from the rain. Dis the place to be.
biggest library in metro vancouver i guess some homeless people visit there
Incredibly noisy, even on the “quiet” floors. Groups of children with their teachers or chaperones blandly saying “shhh” but kids keep on yelling. Strange echo that sounds like a thousand kids screaming quietly heard when sitting at the atrium window. How about not letting kids groups on the quiet floors so adults can actually get some work done peacefully???
Very cool building!
I love this place, you can even link your library card from another BC library and borrow books.
Great collection of books
Great place to cry
Jan. 15, 2021: now can search and retrieve books from the stacks without requiring staff assistance. Masks are provided if you don't have one. Sanitation is via a foot pump. Security at entrance and on 3rd floor where the computer terminals are located.
A HUGE LIBRARY. Lots of space for studying. Lots of computers, lots of books. VERY VERY knowledgeable staff. Great library.
went there for the views
When you print make sure you go to print preview. Because I literally had the experience of wasting two dollars and it came out as totally blank paper!
Very nice public library
Great except for these HORRIBLY LOUD announcements that can come every 45 minutes some days~ what the hell?! It's supposed to be a quiet place. Why are they doing this? I am not going to attend the Children's story hour -- no!
Good place for book lovers
what a great library!!
The new reno upstairs is finally open and it is beautiful. Spacious, open, bright, and adds conference rooms and dozens of new work spaces for people coming to study, plus a little niche near the new gardens where you can sit and eat. The new upstairs has the feeling of an art gallery, without the smugness. Still missing in action is the map for each floor that shows you where to find the call number of the book you're searching for. They got rid of these maps in 2004 and every inquiry I've made since has been answered with 'oh, we're moving the books around'. Since 2004. There are inexpensive ways to create a poster with that information, so that library patrons wouldn't have to go through every aisle on the floor to find the right section... or wait 10 minutes for library staff to show them where it is. Wonder why management can't figure it out.
More than just a book libray. Always striving to improve. Lets you reserve if not in jnventory. Pay them a visit
Opening time is more than other libraries, the space are large enough and the seat are comfortable。a great place to done your work
i really love this brunch very friendly staff and big enough for everybody also the enternet speed is so fast you can use it 4 houres a day.
Good place to study
Nice library, good to visit and stay for a while
Great place for children and babies, lots of picture books, multilingual book selection, toys, board games, children activities. Washrooms in good condition. Usually you can find a bit of quiet space for breastfeeding too, although it would be nice if they thought about organizing special space for it. The only problem is there are mice in the lower level that they can't get rid of because of babies and toddlers having not-only-snacks everywhere round...
Large area for study without having to own a library card.
I came to the library to use one of their the computers. I had to book time to use one. I arrived at 1:30 pm. I had to book for 2:30 that an hour difference. I went had a coffee and waited. I wished that times for the computers could be booked on-line.
I love books and libraries.
The mother of all Vancouver libraries! Offers regular, relevant seminars and the audio lab is awesome!
Beautiful building filled with books, stationary stores and foods places in the building but across the entrance to the library so if you want to get your works done while eating, don't worry. The library itself has cool faculties, plenty of tables to work. I like the way they, as I see, diversify the floors, the lowest for everyone and the higher for more academic purposes. What I don't like is, because it's public library, everyone can get in. The computer areas have many hobos who come to have free computer time and mumble racist things, the washroom are dirty. Great place to get works done but bring your computer with you.
Top notch public institution. Thanks to everyone who works there.
The computer labs are really good and have great facilities.
This is an amazing public library. Very complete and excellent service.
